You know it was an amazing time if it's taken about two months for us to recover from all the dancing and incredible amount of fun we had at our wedding! To say the entire PBYC team (especially looking at you, John) made our wedding a day one that we couldn't have dreamt of and a day and experience we'll never forget is a massive understatement. They might be some of the finest professionals I've ever had the pleasure of working with and am SO grateful I got to for our wedding day. They treated us like we were the only couple they had booked for the entire year -- no request or question was too big, small, or silly. On top of that, they made everything feel fun and easy, even though wedding planning can feel like one of the most stressful things ever at points. I am eternally grateful for having gotten to feel like one of the most special people on earth because of John and his team at PBYC. If it weren't for their kindness, insane amount of effort and attention to detail, willingness to go above and beyond, I know our wedding wouldn't have been as amazing. John has such a gift in doing what he does for a living. If you were on the fence in considering PBYC, let me tell you this -- you should consider this your sign to do it NOW. You will not find a better team, a more beautiful location, and holy SMOKES... no better food, anywhere else. Thank you John and the entire team at PBYC for everything you did to make our wedding a weekend and experience one we'll never forget and our guests will never stop talking about. TEAM PBYC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Attended a wedding there last night, it was outstanding! The grounds were impeccable and the building offered many wonderful options. Food was very good. But the one element that clearly stood out was the service; bartenders and servers were outstanding! Clearly the management has everyone on the same page. Well done!

To say that our wedding at the PBYC was the wedding of our dreams is an understatement...words cannot begin to describe how exceptional the entire experience was! From the outset, we knew we had made the right decision when picking our venue. Working with John over the last year was an absolute pleasure. His kindness, support, experience, and sense of humor made the entire process easy. Despite the fact that the last year and a half has been beyond difficult dealing with COVID, health restrictions, social distancing and countless unknowns, John was always there with a smile, a joke, and reassurances for us. Any questions we had were addressed immediately. By the time our wedding came around we were beyond confident that everything was going to run smoothly. And then came our wedding day. It was truly beautiful and while the weather certainly played a role in that, the Yacht Club itself was the perfect setting. Everything looked beautiful! John and the staff at the PBYC work hard to make the place an absolutely stunning venue, from the lawn overlooking the bay where we had our ceremony, to the upstairs patio where our guests enjoyed the best cocktail hour imaginable, to the main dining room with it's picture perfect views of the marina and greater bay beyond. Pictures are just starting to roll in and they are stunning! We also have to note how amazing the entire staff working that day were. Our guests are still remarking on how fabulous the service was. No one wanted for anything. We were fortunate enough to have Hillary work with us as our bridal attendant that day; she was phenomenal! She was always there at our side whenever we needed a drink, a bite to eat, or just a reminder to take some time for ourselves if we needed to. Thanks to her, John, and everyone else, we were able to relax, enjoy our family and friends, and have the best time ever. We cannot begin to thank John and everyone at the PBYC for making our special day an amazing one with memories that we will treasure for years to come!

Stop looking! Have. Your. Wedding. HERE! The well-manicured grass area overlooking the water, wedding party preparation areas, reception room and the upstairs bar area with HUGE balcony and very unique lantern room made for a remarkable and perfect setting for our special day! It could have not been more perfect. It is made easy given that you have the venue to yourself all day from 9 am until 1am. The staff and coordinators are extremely attentive and professional. They could not have been sweeter or more accommodating. They made our day very easy and stress free. We looked at several other venues and this one blew them all away. No detail was ignored. Oh, and we are still hearing how amazing the food was. Such an amazing place!

Photo of Katherine P.

The Peconic Bay Yacht Club was everything we could have wished for and more! On top of how absolutely stunning the views are, the inside of the venue is impeccably designed and absolutely gorgeous. In addition to how wonderful PBYC is, they work exclusively with Robbins Wolfe catering - the food at our wedding was outstanding - we are still getting compliments! Most importantly, John and his staff went above and beyond in every single way possible when it came to planning our big day. While planning, we were told by so many people not to get too caught up in tiny details because inevitably something small can go wrong - I can honestly say that, not only did nothing go wrong, but everything was truly perfect - beyond what I could have even hoped for. John thought of every single detail imaginable, responded to every call/email immediately, and was there for us every step of the way. I didn't have a wedding planner or a day of planner, and I know that wouldn't have been remotely possible without John. My bridal attendant, Emily, was honestly my saving grace and I could not have imagined this day without her. John and Emily both thought of things that didn't even cross my mind - they are truly the absolute best!! I wouldn't have changed one single thing about our wedding and cannot recommend the Peconic Bay Yacht Club place more!

After the fire: St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club focused on revitalizing this coming summer

The St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club is intent on rebuilding after the devastating fire.

PANAMA CITY — In November, the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club building on Bunkers Cove Road was destroyed in a fire. Ever since then, questions have circulated around the community: How did the fire start? Would the Yacht Club rebuild?

The Yacht Club was up and operational for business within weeks of the fire. The Yacht Club is still taking in new members, as well. Members have joined the club even after the fire.

”The Yacht Club is in better shape than people would have imagined,” said Michael Wynn, 2024 commodore. “The staff members that we have are family to us. We believe and give to them and they give back to us.”

Wynn explained that one club member had this to say after the fire: “The clubhouse was just a building; the Yacht Club is about the people.”

The Yacht Club has discussed expanding its sailing center to provide greater resources for the community. The club expects the plans and renderings for the new club facility will be unveiled this summer.

Some of the staff members have left the club since the incident and others have stayed.

“Our staff is smaller now since the fire,” said Wynn. “We have less services being offered at the moment, but many staffers who left the club for other jobs have offered to come back once the club becomes (fully) operational again.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown. There have been different ideas and theories on how the fire started, but there has not been a definitive answer. But there was no foul play, Wynn emphasized.

”Right now, we don’t have a final number on what it’s going to cost to rebuild,” said Wynn. “We have architects and plans on rebuilding. We have members of the community who are donating services to help cut the cost (of our rebuild).”

More information about the club will be released closer to the clubhouse reopening. Wynn said the rebuild will both honor the club's history and heritage and also add modern touches.

Previous coverage: More details released as Panama City monitors St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club fire site

Wynn said the club's experience dealing with insurance after the fire has been good and the matter soon will be resolved. The experience was much better than the ones many people had after Hurricane Michael, he noted.

Wynn also is humbled and gratified by the outpouring of support and dedication from his fellow club leaders and all club members. He knew his one-year term as commodore, which began in January, would be full of challenges. But the club has rallied because the tradition and legacy mean so much.

"People care so deeply," he said.

UW dock renovations pose threat to 75-year sailing tradition, yacht club students say

by Denise Whitaker, KOMO News Reporter

Image of boats on a docking bay in Washington. (Photo: KOMO News)

SEATTLE — Students in the Washington Yacht Club (WYC) accuse the University of Washington (UW) of working to stop a 75-year history of teaching students to sail.

Those students told KOMO News that the UW’s plans to renovate the docks near Husky Stadium will eliminate the docks they use to store their 70 boats, thus taking away their ability to teach students to sail.

“It would really mean, like a death blow to the community,” said Renee Chien, the current Rear Commodore of WYC.

The U.W. has plans to repair and remove docks. The total dock space will be reduced by 4,000 square feet.

“And the university has actually given us a statement as of March that we will no longer be able to keep beyond one boat on the dock,” said Chien.

UW told KOMO News that the club only needs to move some of the club's boats short term.

“We have up to 75 boats. We’ve got everything from sailboats up to a 44-foot ocean-going vessel and everything in between,” said William Rae, another member of WYC.

Once the renovation is completed in 2025, the university told KOMO that UW recreation will no longer maintain dock storage space, so the WYC and the Union Bay Rowing Club would each be able to maintain just one boat at the dock.

“It would mean the loss of something that I have poured my heart and soul into,” said Chien. “And I feel like that is the case for most people that I work with in the WYC, who like are united by their common love of sailing.”

Chien told KOMO she just joined the WYC in November, to learn to sail and loves it so much, she’s already been out sailing 22 of the past 23 days.

“I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and as an international student, I wouldn’t have felt like my roots were planted firmly anywhere. I thought maybe I would stay in Seattle maybe I wouldn’t, but I didn’t feel attached and it was really because of sailing and because of my access to the water and this newfound connection that I have with the Puget Sound that I feel like I would like to stay here to keep sailing and keep building the community here,” explained Chien.

Perhaps the best part of getting out on one of the 70 boats to learn to sail, is the price. Students pay just $39 per quarter.

“And if we lose that that’s a huge loss to people being able to enter into a sport that traditionally has such a high barrier,” said Rae.

Sailing lessons in Seattle cost several hundred dollars a month.

“We’re pretty unique, definitely in the Pacific Northwest, and really for student-run organizations we believe we're unique in the country,” said Rae.

UW's tradition of sailgating right outside Husky Stadium is another unique Pacific Northwest tradition and some accuse the University of putting profits from events like this over student benefit.

The renovation plan calls for adding new docks for large sailgating boats plus greater access for students and the public to rent kayaks and canoes.

“And we just want to emphasize that kayak rentals are $19 per hour our quarterly membership is $39 a quarter,” said Chien.

UW told KOMO that they are prioritizing Rec Clubs with the new waterfront plan, to expand student participation.

Construction on the docks and beach at the UW is scheduled to start in January and UW told KOMO that they are still working with the WYC through this process.

Captured LIVE in HD! The Bolshoi Ballet from Moscow Presents: The Golden Age

April 14, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm.

The Golden Age Ballet is a satirical take on the political and cultural change in 1920s’ Europe.

In the 1920’s, The Golden Age cabaret is a favorite nightly haunt. A young fisherman Boris falls in love with a woman named Rita. He follows her to the cabaret and realizes that she is the beautiful dancer “Mademoiselle Margot,” but also the love interest of the local gangster Yashka. With its jazzy score by Dmitri Shostakovich and its music-hall atmosphere featuring beautiful tangos, The Golden Age is a refreshing and colorful dive into the roaring 20’s.

These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■
