New Flagship for Bering Yachts: The B165

  • By Yachting Staff
  • March 19, 2024

Bering 165

Bering Yachts , known for its steel expedition-style trawler yachts, introduced a new flagship B165 explorer yacht at the Dubai International Boat Show.

“She keeps all the ruggedness, stability, range and all-weather capability while representing a Mediterranean and Caribbean approach to life: easygoing, relaxed and full of comfort,” the company stated in a press release. “You are still traveling in your home, but with so much more open space and fresh air that the onboard life becomes a full-circle indoor and outdoor experience.”

The shipyard describes the B165 as “Bering to the bone, but with a luxury twist.” On the main deck’s elongated after section, there’s a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds. Folding bulwarks can expand this relaxation even more, and the pool can be covered for use as stowage for water toys and other equipment. There’s also space here for two tenders.

Inside on the main deck are dining and lounging areas, along with two VIP staterooms. An additional room at the bow can be outfitted as a guest stateroom, or as an onboard cinema.

Bering 165

The owners’ deck has more than 750 square feet of space, including a sleeping area, a head, and a lounge with a bar, table and seating. An open space aft on the owners’ deck has a table for alfresco dining, while at the bow, there’s a hot tub and a lounge. Crew have access to a private service room for preparing and serving meals, with a dumbwaiter that connects to a similar service area on the main deck, and to the galley on the lower deck.

Also on the lower deck are three guest staterooms, four cabins to accommodate eight crew, and a crew mess. An additional cabin on this deck can be used for supernumeraries such as nannies, guides and masseurs.

Up on the bridge deck, there’s a lounge with a bar, an outdoor cinema, a day head and a firepit. The captain’s quarters are here as well.

Above that deck is a crow’s nest with a hardtop where guests can have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the yacht’s surroundings.

Bering 165

Eco-friendly design is also inherent in the Bering 165, according to company founder Alexei Mikhailov: “We are building responsibly. Designing a large engine room, we definitely had alternative energy solutions in mind. There is plenty of space to accommodate hybrid applications and install a big battery bank.”

Power for the 499-gross-ton vessel will be twin 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar C32 engines, with a reported cruise speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots. Fuel capacity is nearly 18,500 gallons, which the team at Bering says gives the B165 a range of more than 4,000 nautical miles. ABT-Trac systems are installed for guest comfort.

Does the Bering Yachts B165 have a steel hull? Yes, with an aluminum superstructure.

B120: Bering Yachts' New 37m Superyacht Concept

By Frances Flannagan

Turkish based Bering Yachts have revealed details of its newest addition to the family of full-displacement explorer superyachts: 37m B120. This concept represents a brand-new approach by the Turkish yard alongside design features and engineering solutions that are unique to the shipyard. She is an intelligent and versatile design, showcasing Bering Yachts’ commitment to creating yachts that appeal to an array of clients.

B120 is a new superyacht concept by Bering Yachts in collaboration with Sabdes Design and Phathom Design. She has a LOA of 37.1m and a beam of 8.9m, meaning that she has ample space for designers and naval architects to exercise several possible configurations, ensuring that she is customised perfectly for the owner.

Alexey Mikhailov, Founder of Bering Yachts, commented: ‘While designing this boat, we have received plenty of feedback from our customers, and we tried to execute their suggestions in B120. For example, a private deck accessible only by the owners, or a trendy request – a beach club. What is different about B120, you don’t need to go down to the beach club, as in most boats of this class. We have blended it with the swimming platform, and the beach club is now elevated by 70 centimetres, making it more useful.’

Due to the flexibility of her wide-beam displacement hull, multiple options are available regarding the layout. The balance between private and secluded areas alongside spacious communal zones make her a versatile vessel, suitable for every guests’ needs. This makes the her the perfect choice for those interested in Bering's buy-to-charter program, as she is suitable for those who value both space as well as comfort.

Phathom’s interiors are soft and seamless, where light and creamy tones are contrasted and balanced by dramatic inflections of colour and textures. An abundance of natural light pervades the inside areas, contributing to a seamless feel as the indoors and outdoors are beautifully combined. Her layout is flexible and functional, appealing to an array of both charter clients and owners. Her exteriors aimed to visually reduce the superstructure height in comparison to length, meaning that she is elegant as well as purposeful. This is a stunning first collaboration between Phathom Studio and Bering Yachts, an exciting element of her design.

She can accommodate up to 12 guests and nine crew across four decks, powered by twin diesel engines that allow her a maximum speed of 14 knots. Regarding performance and design, B120’s versatility is unmatched by yachts of a similar size. She is an impressive superyacht that is flexible, charter-friendly, and able to offer as many amenities and opportunities as a boat that is larger.

"While designing this boat, we have received plenty of feedback from our customers, and we tried to execute their suggestions in B120." Alexey Mikhailov, Founder of Bering Yachts

Hyundai IONIQ 6

Is hyundai’s ioniq 6 the ultimate ev fast charging, long-range, and affordable price.

Avatar for Peter Johnson

While automakers prepare to launch their next wave of electric vehicles, Hyundai already has an EV that checks all the boxes. According to a new report, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the only EV on the market offering fast charging in under 20 minutes, over 350 miles range, and at an affordable starting price.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 checks all the boxes as an affordable EV

Hyundai introduced the IONIQ 6 electric sedan in South Korea in late 2022, with sales kicking off in the US in March 2023.

Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP dedicated EV platform, the same one underpinning the IONIQ 5 , the IONIQ 6 offers up to 361 miles of driving range. Perhaps, more importantly, you can charge Hyundai’s electric sedan (10% to 80%) in as little as 18 minutes with 800V DC fast charging.

And you get all of this starting at an affordable starting price of as little as $38,650. With long-range capabilities, fast charging, and an affordable price tag, is the Hyundai IONIQ 6 the ultimate EV?

According to a new report from Boston Consulting Group , the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the only EV on the market that meets potential buyers’ median price, range, and charging targets.

Hyundai-IONIQ-6-affordable

BCG research found that 70% of US consumers are considering buying an EV. Other than the 6% that already own one, 38% said they plan to purchase an EV as their next vehicle, and another 27% are considering one in the future.

However, the study found those holding out are looking for faster charging, more range, and lower prices.

The median requirements include 20-min charging, 30 min detour and wait times for fast-charging stations, 350 miles range, and a price of $50,000.

Hyundai launched the 2024 IONIQ 6 for $4,100 cheaper than last year’s model. Starting at $38,615, Hyundai’s IONIQ 6 checks all the boxes as an affordable, long-range, fast-charging EV.

To make it even more attractive, Hyundai is offering a $7,500 cash offer on all trims, bringing prices down to potentially just over $30,000.

Hyundai-IONIQ-6-affordable

Tesla’s Model 3 was the next closest model to hitting the threshold. The 2024 Tesla Model 3 starts at $38,990 with up to 272 miles range. For the Long Range model, prices start at $47,740, with up to 341 miles range.

The race for lower-cost electric cars

Automakers are rushing to introduce new low-cost EVs. Ford is shifting from large EVs, like the F-150 Lightning, to smaller, more affordable models.

According to a new Bloomberg Businessweek report, Ford plans to launch a new low-cost EV platform. The platform will underpin a next-gen smaller electric pickup and SUV with starting prices around $25,000. Meanwhile, the American automaker is putting plans for a larger three-row electric SUV on hold.

Ford-affordable-EV-pickup

Ford’s CEO Jim Farley explained at a Wolfe Research conference last month that if you cannot keep up with Chinese EV makers, “20% to 30% of your revenue is at risk.”

Farley explained, “As the CEO of a company that had trouble competing with the Japanese and the South Koreans, we have to fix this problem.”

Ford put together a “skunk works team” to develop it with “some of the best EV engineers in the world.” That team is led by Alan Clarke, who led the engineering of the Tesla Model Y .

US-EV-registrations-2023

Speaking of Tesla, the EV leader is gearing up to launch its next-gen electric car , a $25,000 vehicle.

Although initial plans called for Tesla’s next-gen EV to be built at Gigafactory Mexico, CEO Elon Musk confirmed it will be built in Texas.

Musk said the model was “advanced” in its development in December. Tesla’s CEO said he reviews the production line plans “every week.”

Rivian-R2

Rivian recently unveiled its cheaper R2 , starting at $45,000 with at least 300 miles range across all trims. It’s due to enter production in the first half of 2026. The EV startup also introduced the R3, an even smaller and more affordable model that will follow.

Hyundai’s sister company, Kia, is launching a lineup of affordable EVs with starting prices between $30,000 and $50,000.

Top comment by Jeff L.

Picked up a '24 SEL AWD last month and it has been a great daily driver. Was originally going to do hybrid, but with promotions this car got so close to the same price, I chose EV instead. Quiet and fast, as expected, and also a very comfortable cruiser that is planted, handles well, and has good road feel.

I love the look of the car. I've heard others say, and I agree, that pictures don't quite do it justice and it commands quite a presence in person.

Kia is expected to launch its entry-level EV3 by the end of the year, starting at around $30,000. It will be followed by the Kia EV4 next year, with prices expected to be around $35,000.

The Korean automaker already launched the compact EV5 electric SUV in China with a low starting price of $20,000 (149,800 yuan).

What do you think? Does the Hyundai IONIQ 6 check all the boxes? Let us know in the comments.

The 13 Fastest Superyachts in the World

These boats prove that size doesn't have to mean slow..

13 Fastest superyachts

When American businessman John Staluppi embarked on his yachting journey, it was to break records. He wanted his first yacht to be the first boat over 100 feet to exceed 30 knots, or 34.5 mph. He achieved it with the 118-foot For Your Eyes Only, delivered in 1985. It was also the first motoryacht in the US to have a combination of MTU diesel engines with water-jet propulsion.

His second yacht would smash all previous records. Delivered by Heesen in 1988, Octopussy fulfilled the Bond enthusiast’s aim to break the then 50-knot barrier with a top end of 53.17 knots (61 mph)—a speed that every other shipyard at the time said couldn’t be done. Octopussy  immediately entered the record books as the world’s fastest yacht.

“That record was important to me because when you pull into any place there’s always a bigger boat or a prettier boat, but there aren’t many people who can say, ‘Hey, this is the fastest yacht in the world,’” Staluppi told Robb Report .

Heesen’s latest delivery, the 197-foot Ultra G , is one of the Dutch yard’s fastest projects these days, with a propulsion package totaling 22,000 horsepower, including four water jets that deliver a top speed of 37 knots (42.57 mph).

Of course, 43 mph is a paltry number compared to many of the yachts on this list, including the new Bolide 80. That Italian stallion, which will make its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, runs at a blistering 84 mph. It shows that speed, even in the large motoryacht category, is very much alive.

Here are 13 of the fastest motoryachts, past and present, that have ever been on the water.

1. Bolide 80 | 84 mph

fastest bering yacht

Victory Marine calls the Bolide 80 its first “Hyper Muscle Yacht,” which will be part of a limited-edition series from 60 to 170 feet. Designer Brunello Acampora and his tema of engineers pulled out all the stops on this 80, creating a full-carbon-fiber boat with more than 6,000 horsepower. The multi-stepped hull helps propel the Bolide to its top speed of 70 knots (84 mph), while accomplishing the seemingly impossible task of burning about half the fuel of a much smaller flybridge motoryacht at lower cruising speeds. The designer took care to give the Bolide a streamlined profile, with aerodynamic shapes to reduce resistance. The interior includes the captain’s cabin, a full-sized galley, open salon, and a forward owner’s area with a bedroom, en suite and wardrobe area. It will make its global debut at the Monaco Yacht Show.

2. ‘Foners’ | 80.56 mph

fastest bering yacht

Clocking a thrilling 70.10 knots (80.56 mph), the 136-foot Foners has maintained pole position as the world’s fastest superyacht for over 20 years. Powered by two 1,280hp MAN engines coupled to three Rolls-Royce 6,700 hp gas turbines driving three KaMeWa water jets, the all-aluminum boat is less about piercing waves and more about parting the seas. Delivered in 2000 by Spanish shipyard Izar as the King of Spain’s royal yacht, no expense was spared, including a superstructure lined with Aramid fiber for the express purpose of bulletproofing the interior.

3. ‘World Is Not Enough’ | 77.1 mph

fastest bering yacht

You need to only look at the 007-inspired name to know that World Is Not Enough is another rapid racer commissioned by John Staluppi, this time with an opulent interior designed by his wife Jeanette in partnership with Evan K Marshall. Delivered in 2004 by Millennium Super Yachts, the 139-footer is powered by two Paxman diesel engines and two Lycoming gas turbines to produce a staggering 20,600hp and a breathtaking 67 knots (77.1 mph). When not leaving other boats behind, World Is Not Enough has a cruising range of 3800 nautical miles at a comfortable speed of 10 knots.

4. ‘Galeocerdo’ | 74.8 mph

fastest bering yacht

Wally founder Luca Bassani designed the 118-foot Galeocerdo to maintain speed in rough seas. Launched in 2003 by Rodriquez Yachts, the boat racks up an eye-watering 65 knots (74.8 mph), thanks to its three Vericor TF50 gas turbines, each driving a Rolls-Royce KaMeWa water jet. Another performance-enhancing feature is the lightweight titanium exhaust system designed to resist the extreme temperatures generated by the gas turbines. Wind tunnel tested at the Ferrari facility in Maranello, Italy, the boat generates 16,800hp and a 45-knot (51.8-mph) cruising speed that’s faster than most motoryachts running flat out. It also enjoys a highly futuristic exterior design.

5. Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 | 72.5 mph

fastest bering yacht

When Italian supercar brand Lamborghini teamed up with yachting stalwart The Italian Sea Group, the end result had to be style and performance. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is all about the power of ‘63’. Designed and built to celebrate the year 1963 when Ferruccio Lamborghini founded his car company, the 63-footer delivers a whiplashing top speed of 63 knots (72.5 mph). And naturally, it’s one of just 63 in the series that will ever be made. Built out of carbon fiber, it’s fitted with two MAN V12-2000HP engines. MMA fighter Conor McGregor took delivery of hull number one in 2020, which reportedly cost $4 million.

6. ‘Chato’ | 71.9 mph

fastest bering yacht

Back in the mid-1980s, passionate Baglietto customer and leading US Porsche and VW dealer Baron John von Neumann, commissioned a new 85-ft. speed demon from the Italian builder. The entrepreneur was tired of his 34-knot (39-mph) Baglietto getting creamed from Monaco to St. Tropez by faster cruisers. With a hull design by the legendary Alcide Sculati, the all-aluminum Chato came with MTU’s latest 3,480hp V16s coupled to KaMeWa waterjets. Weighing 60 tons, and packing almost 7,000 hp, the military-looking superyacht with its battleship-gray paint and bright-red diagonal hull stripes, hit an astonishing top speed of 62.5 knots (71.9 mph) during sea trials. Chato is currently for sale in the South of France for $715,000.

7. ‘Oci Ciornie’ | 69.04 mph

fastest bering yacht

Oci Ciornie’s Vripack-designed interior may take inspiration from aircraft designs, but it’s the boat’s naval architecture by Don Shead and the combination of two 1,800hp MTU 16V 2000 M90 engines, a 4,600 hp AVCO Lycoming gas turbine and Arneson surface drives that put it on this list. Delivered in 1998 by Palmer Johnson with an aluminum hull, the 82-foot boat thrusts through water at 60 knots (69.04 mph), giving all eight guests the waterborne ride of their lives.

8. ‘Destriero’ | 68 mph

fastest bering yacht

The numbers almost defy logic. With a length of 224 feet, the all-aluminum superyacht Destriero is massive. Now add a trio of GE Aviation LM1600 gas turbines totaling an insane 60,000 hp and the incredulity only increases. Flat out, Destriero could scythe through waves at a staggering 59 knots, or 68 mph. Back in 1992, just one year after its launch, the Fincantieri-built rocketship showed its chops by challenging the famous Blue Riband trans-Atlantic speed record. Averaging 53.09 knots for the 3,106 nautical-mile run, Destriero shattered the record, only to be denied the trophy for being classed as a private yacht and not a commercial passenger vessel. Sadly, today the iconic yacht lies largely abandoned at one of Lurssen’s yards in Germany, awaiting rescue.

9. ‘Ermis²’ | 65.59 mph

fastest bering yacht

Some yachts feature slippery hull designs, others are propelled by rockets, but the McMullen & Wing-built Ermis² is one of the fastest yachts on the superyacht circuit thanks to its lightweight materials. Built from a combination of carbon/epoxy, aerospace grade carbon fiber and titanium, the 123-foot boat taps out at 57 knots (65.59 mph.) Delivered in 2007, its 10,944 horsepower comes from three MTU 16V 4000 M90 engines. Designed inside and out by Rob Humphreys, its classic looks disguise the speed demon within.

10. ‘Why Not U’ | 63.3 mph

fastest bering yacht

Why Not U is a yacht that comfortably cruises at 47 knots (54.1 mph)—a speed most owners only dream of reaching. When time is of the essence, the boat cranks up its Vericor TF40 gas turbine engines to max out at 55 knots (63.3 mph). Delivered by Overmarine in 2001, Why Not U ’s 4.3-foot draft makes it well suited for cruising shallow waters, while its sunbathing areas allow guests to catch some rays traveling at the speed of light.

11. ‘Alamshar’ | 52 mph

fastest bering yacht

Alamshar is another custom collaboration between Donald Blount and Pininfarina commissioned by Aga Khan IV, this time with interiors by Redman Whiteley Dixon. It was reportedly built for an estimated $200 million at the Devonport shipyard in Falmouth, United Kingdom, and took 13 years to complete. When it was eventually delivered in 2014, Alamshar’s top speed of 45 knots (51.78 mph), generated by twin Rolls-Royce Marine engines and three waterjets, seemed worth the wait.

12. ‘Moon Goddess’ | 51.78 mph

fastest bering yacht

Exterior designed by Espen Øino with an interior by Franco Zuretti, the all-aluminum Moon Goddess is a 115-foot yacht with a turquoise hull that matches the color of its oversized leather sunpads. When cruising at 30 knots (34.52 mph) or tearing up the oceans at 45 knots (51.78 mph), most other boats just catch a glimpse of sea spray that the planing yacht leaves in its wake. It’s powered by twin MTU 16V 4000 M90 diesel engines with twin water jets, which generate a combined 7,498 hp.

13. ‘Azzam’ | 35.7 mph

fastest bering yacht

At a staggering 590 feet bow-to-stern, the Lurssen-built Azzam earns the title of world’s longest privately owned gigayacht. But with its remarkable-for-the-size top speed of 31 knots (35.7 mph), it’s also the fastest. Twin 12,000hp MTU V20 turbo-diesels do the day-to-day powering at up to 18 knots (20.7 mph). But crank up the twin GE LM2500 gas turbines, coupled to four Wartsila waterjets, and there’s a staggering 94,000hp on tap. Of course, like Azzam ‘s original owner, it helps if you own a few oil wells: At max speed, the yacht reportedly burns 13 tons of fuel an hour. Launched in 2013 at a reported cost of some $600 million, Azzam accommodates 30 guests pampered by up to 80 crew.

The Yacht of Their Dreams

Eight years into their yacht-owning experience, NautiStyles decided to build a boat on their own. Yacht and nautical lifestyle enthusiasts, licensed captains, and marine bloggers with more than 265,000 subscribers of their YouTube NautiStyles channel , these guys know it all about luxury, safety, and comfort. After considering (literally!) hundreds of options, they chose Bering 75 .

Bering Yachts founder and president Alexei Mikhailov received a call from NautiStyles early spring morning. Phoning from Dubai, the couple informed Alexei that their choice was firm and final – they want a real steel explorer yacht they have been dreaming about for quite a while. They came to the Antalya shipyard, and, after quite long and in-depth discussions with Alexei and the Bering team, the contract was signed. Due to the high demand, it took several months to lay the keel, but when the time came the happy future owners had a time of their life welding a coin into the hull.

The Yacht of Their Dreams

Building this yacht will be a unique experience for both sides. It will be the first boat NautiStyles build for themselves; as for Bering, this adventure will result in tending to the needs and dreams of people who know a lot about design, usability, and comfort at sea.  It will be an interesting venture; NautiStyles have even established a separate channel, NautiGuys, dedicated to the process. In one day, the video about the decision to build B75 has generated more than 100,000 views. This is the power of a dream.

So, what exactly is a dream? Bering 75 is an under-24-meter yacht, 23.44 meters in length. It displaces 160 metric tons with a gross tonnage of 174 tons. Taking onboard up to eight guests and two crew members, it will feature two master suites – by the clients’ request. An impressive 4,000 nautical miles range will provide B75 a lot of autonomy, and with cruising speed of 9 knots and top speed of 12 knots, this yacht will surely satisfy the adventurous style that NautiStyles are looking for in the boat of their dreams.

This is only the beginning of this story. Please follow up at NautiGuys YouTube channel and at Bering News .
