Just wondering if anyone has any idea when upgrade bid offers typically get sent out for MSC? We sail on 4/9/22 (our 1st time on the line) so a little over 30 days out now......We have used the bid program successfully on Royal and NCL previously. Anyone notice any differences with MSC's version?

Thanks in Advance!

Great Review

I'm sailing 4/23 and got an offer right after I booked. It really depends on how empty/full the cruise is and what experience you booked.

One thing...you'll need to make sure you have the switch set to receive promos, etc. in your profile. Otherwise I don't think you'll get an offer.

Thanks

I'm sailing on 3/27 and just got a bid email a couple of days ago.

We got our offer to upgrade 3/2 at 8:26 pm for our 4/3 Mera cruise. I was starting to get a little worried myself!

amygutman

Is it a common practice to offer upgrades if no cabins in the higher category are available?

We were offered an upgrade to a YC OS on our Seashore sailing in April. Not that we were willing to pay an additional 6K per person for a 7 day cruise (good lord, that is the minimum bid), but curious enough to check the websites of both the MSC and TA company I use - neither show an OS available to book.

There is another upgrade thread where I asked the same question without a response: why offer an upgrade to a room that isn't available other than filling a room that may be potentially cancelled, or data gathering to see how much money people are willing to pay for an upgraded room are the only things I can think of as answers.

If a person booked a yacht club OS and had the type of insurance where you can cancel for any reason it would make sense for MSC to have a big database full of people bidding on that same cabin! And you are right it’s a pretty darn good way to gather data.  Example I bid $5 above  minimum on a yacht club deluxe balcony and won!  On my upcoming cruise  my opening bid is $80 more for the same ship/itinerary.

I'll cross my fingers for the upgrade on your current cruise. 5$ over minimum is amazing! heck of a deal.

Never thought about the insurance aspect - that's an interesting point.

Quick update -

It's not something I would entertain bidding on but apparently there is an RS now available on my sailing for a minimum upgrade bid of (wait for it) SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED $US PER PERSON !!!!!

Good Lord.

The price online for booking the room outright is approximately 16K.

Now, I love myself a great room, but 16K or 12K over what I already paid for a room with only one bathroom - that's a hard pass from me for a 7 day cruise.

Warm wishes to anyone who jumps at the availability...maybe you can let me have a peek in!

Warmest, Amy

Sailed on Mera today (3/6) and received my email offering upgrades on 3/3.  If I didn’t have an aft balcony I might have jumped to a YC interior for the experience since it was only a $320 minimum bid.

Outofofficeon

Made a minimum bid for 19 March on a YC interior just for the experience. Over a week ago but you can hear up to two days before sailing.  Just never know, they might just accept it

MSC uses same company as NCL.  NCL board has a 100+ page thread over last six years with info.

MSC just started bids last year roughly.  Only a scatter of threads with info.

From what I've seen and our experience, not really a good deal.  Kind of like going to Kohl's where things are always 60% off.

Our first offer was a $100 savings then they increased offers to be way more than buying outright.

I like the Kohl's comparison - makes sense.

Have to say I like the old system when you got a call or an email directly re: an upgrade. Specific price, specific room, specific person to whom the offer is given. No haggling, waiting, guessing games. It's how we got our first suite on Celebrity and was for much, much less than purchasing outright.

I have had the total opposite getting into YC.

I bid max both times and got it.

With NCL, I have bid max multiple times and never got it.

Now I also started with unbelievable rates so bidding max is/was so much cheaper that just booking it.

Yes!  Keep in mind that they are sending upgrade offers for even the higher categories that open their rooms up to look at your bid....

I'm on the Seashore on 4/23 and just put in a min bid for the two YC rooms (an inside and balcony).  Hoping!  I am just really curious as to how long they wait to accept/deny.  I know they can up to 48 hrs before the crusie, but is that standard practice??  Anyone?

Seashore last December b2b

10 days prior on 1st cruise.

4 days on second.

I did bid max as I was in on the cheap.

I was closely watching daily room availability in YC on two trips last Fall.  Both saw bids released four days prior.  YMMV.

WOW!  Ok, so this is my experience with the upgrade!

On Monday, 3/14/2022, we booked the Seashore 7 day Deluxe Balcony (standard balcony room) for $1322 including taxes for both of us (used Health Care Heros discount).  On Tuesday, MSC gave us various upgrade offers to bid on.  The two Yacht club ones were an interior suite (bids between $500pp to $1000) or the Deluxe Balcony (bids $999pp to something high).  I bid $500 for the interior which gave an "Excellent" chance and $1,175 for the balcony YC which was about $5 into the "Good" from poor.

I did notice when I tried to book an inside, they were full but there were several balcony ones available.

I figured they offer the inside ones because they also are offering those folks upgrades to balcony which would open them up.

Today (3/16/2022), I got charged the $2,350 extra which puts my Balcony YC at a total price of $3,672.

If I try to book the room I just got on the website right now... it's over $6,000 w/ taxes.  Pretty good savings.

We booked on 3/4/2022 (Balcony Fantastica for 4, deck 10) leaving 4/2, got upgrade offer next day and I bid min for YC Deluxe Balcony $1k x 2. I upped it to just in the good chance yesterday $1,165 x 2. Got email this morning we were successful. Works out to nearly 50% off compared to if we had booked YC in first place.

That's awesome! I am so happy for you...what an amazing savings!

Have a great trip!

That's a wonderful savings - and I can't wait to hear about your experiences in the YC ... leave some fo the fun for us as (upgrade or not), we get to enjoy the YC on 4/9 when you are disembarking!

I am currently in a standard balcony with the Aurea package purchased. Got an offer to bud on a regular suite, no mention of Aurea. Does anyone know if you get to keep the Aurea benefits if the bud is successful? $220/pp is tempting

I believe you keep the "experience" you originally booked, *unless* you win a bid to YC...in that case your experience changes to YC.

MSC Cruises Upgrade Bid Program – enhance your cruise

Enhance your cruise experience with the MSC Cruises upgrade bid program

Are you considering an upgrade on your next MSC Cruises vacation? You may land the stateroom of your dreams in just a few simple steps at a fraction of the cost. Let’s dive into MSC Cruises’ upgrade program, a bid-based upgrade system designed to enhance your cruising experience.

The bidding program allows eligible passengers to place bids on stateroom upgrades. From ocean views and balcony staterooms to the most luxurious suites at sea, this program offers the opportunity to score a fantastic upgrade and elevate your cruise experience.

So, how does the MSC Cruises Upgrade Bid Program work?

Once you’ve booked your cruise, you may receive an invitation to participate in the program. Submit your bid, sit back, and wait for the results. As its name suggests, the program operates on a bidding system—that means the higher your bid, the better your chances of scoring an upgrade.

Quick navigation

Understanding the MSC Cruises Upgrade Bid Program

The MSC Cruises Upgrade Bid Program allows you to submit bids to upgrade your existing stateroom.

To participate, you’ll receive an invitation via email from MSC Cruises if your booking is eligible. The email will contain instructions and an invitation to submit an offer. After submitting your bid, you’ll patiently wait to find out if your bid was successful. If your bid wins, you’ll be notified, and your stateroom will be upgraded accordingly.

It’s essential to remember that submitting a bid does not guarantee an upgrade. Upgrades depend on availability, your offer’s competitiveness, and other factors MSC Cruises determines.

Eligibility Criteria

Not all MSC Cruise bookings are eligible for the Upgrade Bid Program. To qualify for the program, your booking must meet specific criteria. Some eligibility factors include:

  • Your booking must be made directly through MSC Cruises or an authorized travel partner.
  • You must have a confirmed reservation and have already paid the total fare.

If you meet these criteria and MSC still hasn’t sent you an email invitation, don’t hesitate to contact MSC directly to inquire about your booking’s eligibility. Not all bookings will be eligible.

How to participate in the MSC Upgrade Bid Program

To participate in the MSC Upgrade Bid Program, you must first book a cruise with MSC Cruises. After booking, you may receive an offer to upgrade your stateroom through the program. If you receive an upgrade offer, follow these steps:

  • Review the available upgrade options : MSC Cruises will present various stateroom options for you to bid on. These options may range from Ocean View and Balcony staterooms to more luxurious suites.
  • Decide on your bid amount : Each available upgrade will have a minimum bid amount, which you can increase to improve your chances of getting the upgrade. Remember that the bidding range varies depending on the type of stateroom you want to upgrade to.
  • Submit your bid : Once you have decided on your bid amount, submit your bid through the Plusgrade Program platform. Make sure to double-check the details of your bid before confirming.

Bid Evaluation and Notification

After submitting your bid, MSC Cruises will evaluate all received bids for the available stateroom upgrades. The evaluation process considers various factors, such as:

  • Your bid amount
  • The number of bids received for the same stateroom
  • The availability of the desired staterooms

While your bid is being evaluated, you may be able to view your bid status, which often indicates your chances of winning the upgrade.

Once the evaluation process is complete, MSC Cruises will notify you via email about the outcome of your bid.

What are the benefits of the Upgrade Bid Program?

Upgrading your cabin can provide several benefits, such as enhanced room features, exclusive amenities, and dining options.

Enhanced Room Features

You’ll enjoy more spacious and well-appointed staterooms when you upgrade your cabin. Upgraded cabins often have better views, larger balconies, and more comfortable seating areas. You may also find bigger bathrooms and additional storage space for your belongings.

Exclusive Amenities

Upgraded cabins often come with exclusive amenities you wouldn’t have access to in a standard cabin. For example, you might gain access to a private pool area, exclusive lounges, or priority embarkation and disembarkation services. Some upgrades include Butler Service or a personalized Concierge Service to help you book reservations and arrange special requests during your cruise.

Dining Options

A cabin upgrade can also provide you with additional dining options. Upgrading to a suite or a cabin that is part of a specific “class” or “experience” might grant you access to exclusive restaurants or dining areas unavailable to all passengers. These dining venues usually offer a more upscale ambiance and a higher cuisine level, making your cruise dining experience even more enjoyable.

Tips for a Successful Upgrade Bid

When participating in the MSC Cruises upgrade bid program, think about the following:

Your bid amount plays an essential role in securing an upgrade. If you bid too low, your chances of being selected will likely be slim, while bidding too high may not be cost-effective and may not be in line with your budget. Remember that all bids are per person, based on double occupancy. Consider how much you are willing to spend, and try to find a middle ground between the minimum and maximum bid.

Be mindful of the bidding range specified by MSC Cruises, and contact them for advice if you are unsure. Check if you are bidding a per-person price or for all cabin occupants.

Although there’s no definitive “best time” to submit your upgrade bid, be aware of the time frame given by MSC Cruises and submit your bid as soon as possible.

Monitor your email for any updates or notifications on the upgrade process. MSC Cruises may provide additional information on available upgrades and specific time frames to submit your bids. Staying informed and actively engaged with the upgrade process will be key to maximizing your chances of success.

Finally, remember that the upgrade program’s primary goal is to enhance your MSC Cruises experience and sell more available cabins in the higher price category. Approach the process with a clear understanding of what you want, your budget, and the potential value of the upgrade.

Common questions about MSC’s bidding program:

How can i participate in the msc cruises bidding program.

Sign up for an MSC account via the cruise line’s web page. You must agree that they can send you MSC offers and marketing promotions to receive an email about possible upgrades and the bidding program.

Can I participate in the bidding program if I have booked through a travel agent?

Yes, you should be able to participate if you have booked directly with the cruise or via a travel agent or supplier. Be sure to confirm this when booking and ask your agent to verify that your email address is in the booking so that you can receive emails directly from MSC Cruises.

You can also sign up to receive emails from MSC Cruises directly on their website and link this to your booking number. You must allow MSC Cruises to send you offers and marketing promotions to be able to receive emails about the bidding program for your particular cruise.

How do I know how much to bid to be in with a chance of an upgrade?

MSC Cruises sets a minimum bid amount for the upgrade you can participate in. You can bid the minimum amount or increase it to an amount you feel comfortable paying should you win the bid.

Can I cancel my bid after I win an upgrade if I change my mind?

If your bid is successful and you win an upgrade based on your bid amount, you must pay the bid amount, and you cannot cancel your bid.

How can I find out if my bid is successful?

MSC Cruises will not contact you if your bid is not successful. Remember that you can receive notification of a successful bid very close to your sailing date, so keep an eye on your email. It may also be possible to find out by clicking on the link in the original email sent to you, and it will tell you if you have a successful bid.

Is there a chance I will receive an offer to make a bid?

The upgrade system and the opportunity to bid on a cabin in a higher price category are based on the availability of your particular sailing date at a given time before the sail date.

Most often, customers who book the Bella or Fantastica experience will receive an offer if cabins are available, and sometimes, if you have booked the Aurea experience, you may be able to bid on an upgrade to the Yacht Club category.

Again, it all depends on the availability of cabins at a given time when MSC decides to send out a bulk email offering upgrades via their bidding system.

What should I look out for when participating in the bidding program?

As with everything you need to pay for, make sure you read all the terms and conditions of the bidding program before you decide to participate and bid. If you are unsure of any information, we recommend contacting MSC Cruises directly and asking them before placing a bid.

Can I cancel my upgrade bid before the cruise made a decision ???

Hello David! If your bid is successful and you win an upgrade based on your bid amount, you must pay the bid amount, and you cannot cancel your bid. If you have made a bid but have not received an answer and would like to withdraw, you must contact MSC Cruises and ask them if it’s possible to remove your bid. However, we recommend asking for written confirmation from them if they say they can do this.

We received an invite to bid on our upcoming cruise but when I put info in it says you are unable to bid and to check back.

Hi Linda Thank you for contacting us at CruiseTrail! As you were unable to make the bid, it could be that all available cabins are now filled. However, I recommend contacting MSC Cruises directly to check that there is no technical problem with the upgrade system that prohibits you from placing a bid, so you don’t miss out. If a bid is still possible, request a new offer to be sent to you by email and try again. Good Luck!

How do I bid for a yacht club upgrade I’m in a balcony cabin now with premium drinks package

Hello Diane

Thank you for your enquiry! Be sure to sign up for an MSC account via the cruise line’s web page. You must agree that they can send you MSC offers and marketing promotions to receive an email about possible upgrades and the bidding program. If you do not receive an offer to upgrade your stateroom, I recommend calling the cruise line (or your travel agent if you have booked through a 3rd party) and ask if they know when offers to upgrade are planned to be sent out.

Sarah, we are booked in a lower level category that does not include the drinks package. If I am offered an upgrade to the Yacht Club, would I then have the benefit of free drinks for YC guests?

Thanks Cliff Davidson

Thank you for contacting us. Firstly I must apologize for the very late reply, your enquiry has slipped right by us and I have only just spotted it. The latest information we have from MSC Cruises is that you would NOT get the all the benefits of the Yacht Club category, you would only receive the actual cabin upgrade to Yacht Club category.

We would also add that policy can change at any time, so do double check this information at the time of booking.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful experience with MSC Cruises.

Hi I am trying to find on MSC Website where I say I will receive marketing materials and advertising so I can then register? for a bid for a future upgrade. I do not know where it is to tick the box. What section? Thanks so much

Hi Julie-anne, Thank you for contacting us! Unfortunately, navigating MSC Cruises’ website is not that easy. You should be able to register your email address when booking. Alternatively, I recommend contacting MSC Cruises; your region’s telephone will appear at the top of their website homepage. Give them your booking number, and they can insert your email address. I hope this helps, this is how I used to register my customers when they wanted to participate in the MSC Bid program.

What is the MSC Yacht Club? Take a look at MSC Cruises’ luxury suite area

Ashley Kosciolek

MSC Cruises sails nearly two dozen beautiful ships from home ports around the world, but their inviting sun decks can be crowded, and you're likely to encounter queues for dinner, shows and guest services.

The trick to creating a more luxurious experience on this big-ship cruise line is to book a stay in the line's Yacht Club. This upscale enclave within MSC Cruises ' larger ships offers guests more spacious accommodations, butler service and dedicated restaurants and lounges — even coffee delivered to your room each morning, just the way you like it.

Because of the Yacht Club , MSC can offer an inviting experience for cruisers who like big-ship cruising but crave more elevated accommodations, dining and amenities. MSC Cruises was one of the first lines to introduce this ship-within-a-ship concept, along with Norwegian Cruise Line . Now other popular cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean , also have adopted it.

The Yacht Club section on several of MSC Cruises' ships offers gated access to semi-private dining, butler service and more, but it comes at a price. Find out how much you can expect to pay and what you'll get for your money.

What are the MSC Yacht Club perks?

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

All stays in the Yacht Club include priority check-in and checkout; priority disembarkation and boarding on shore excursions days; free premium alcohol and Wi-Fi packages; a bathrobe and slippers; complimentary access to the Aurea Spa thermal suite; 24-hour concierge and butler services (dining and spa reservations, unpacking and repacking, morning coffee delivery, etc.); a free daily in-cabin newspaper of your choice, delivered; and the ability to change your cruise one time without penalty.

Yacht Club cruisers are also entitled to discounts of 10% on spa treatments, 20% on specialty dining packages and 40% on spa packages.

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

In addition, passengers booked in the Yacht Club have access to their own dedicated bar, lounge and restaurant, as well as a semi-private outdoor bar, pool and hot tubs, all on an exclusive sun deck. When ships dock at the line's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve , Yacht Club passengers have private beach and restaurant access .

In their cabins, Yacht Club cruisers will find a pillow menu, memory foam mattresses, high-quality linens, bathrooms with marble floors, a specialty coffee maker, complimentary open minibar access, one gratis bottle of spirits (choose from a list of available options), free one-time snacks, 24-hour room service and nightly turn-down chocolates from Venchi, an Italian chocolatier that partners with the cruise line.

Which MSC cruise ships have the Yacht Club?

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

Thirteen ships in the MSC Cruises fleet have the Yacht Club on board:

  • MSC Bellissima
  • MSC Euribia
  • MSC Fantasia
  • MSC Grandiosa
  • MSC Meraviglia
  • MSC Preziosa
  • MSC Seascape.
  • MSC Seashore.
  • MSC Seaside
  • MSC Seaview
  • MSC Splendida
  • MSC Virtuosa
  • MSC World Europa

Upcoming vessel MSC World America (2025) also will have the Yacht Club.

The largest Yacht Club in the fleet is on MSC World Europa, offering 152 suites. The second-largest is found on the line's two Seaside EVO Class ships, MSC Seashore and MSC Seascape, which each have 131 suites.

MSC Yacht Club cabins

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

All accommodations in the Yacht Club are labeled as suites, even though they comprise some standard cabin types. The specific stateroom types offered will vary by ship, but in general, they range from windowless interior cabins and deluxe balcony rooms to Executive and Royal Suites with more space, walk-in closets and bathrooms with both showers and bathtubs.

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

New to the fleet with the line's World Class are 1,600-square-foot Owner Suites, which include multi-room layouts, walk-in closets, bathtubs and balconies, each with a whirlpool and alfresco dining area.

Also new are Duplex Suites, offering two decks of space, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a dining area, living room and guest bath downstairs. These also include two private sun decks with loungers, one of which boasts a whirlpool.

How much does it cost to stay in the MSC Yacht Club?

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

As you might expect, the cost to stay in the Yacht Club depends on several factors, including cabin type, the length of the sailing and where you're going and when. However, in line with the rest of the brand's pricing, a stay in the Yacht Club is an excellent value when you compare it to stays in other lines' dedicated suite areas or to luxury cruise prices.

I priced out several sailings departing over the next two years on some of the line's newest and largest ships. This is what was available at press time. (Note: MSC Cruises' website will only allow me to choose a general Yacht Club designation when booking. That means a guaranteed suite within the Yacht Club, but you won't know what type it is until closer to sailing.)

This Cruise Life

Msc yacht club 2024 on board msc meraviglia.

To say we were pampered is the understatement of the year (although, considering it’s only January, fingers crossed there’s more pampering ahead)! We had the opportunity to sail MSC Meraviglia out of New York earlier this month; we were excited to check out the new-to-us cruise line. But what we didn’t expect: an upgrade to MSC’s exclusive Yacht Club!

What is the Yacht Club?

The Yacht Club is MSC’s “ship within a ship” concept that promises both privacy and exclusivity. The experience includes amenities most could only dream about: white-glove butler service, 24×7 concierge, an exclusive restaurant on the ship and on MSC’s private island, Ocean Cay, unlimited drinks anywhere on the ship, a private pool, hot tub, lounge deck, and so much more.

Upgrade Offer

In early December, just over a month from our sailing date, we received an email inviting us to bid on an upgrade . We were already in a balcony cabin, so it seemed odd bidding on an interior cabin – but that’s just what we did! We maxed out our bid on an interior Yacht Club stateroom in hopes that the upgrade fairies would grant our wish.

On December 13, 2023, that’s exactly what happened!

Thank you Twitterverse!!! You made our MSC Yacht Club dreams come true. Our upgrade was accepted this morning. Full review of the MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suite and experience coming January! 💙💙💙 #thankyou #msc #yachtclub pic.twitter.com/ZNDRZcfKKH — This Cruise Life (@thiscruiselife) December 13, 2023

Yacht Club Check-In

Fast-forward a month to January 9, 2024 when we checked in to board MSC Meraviglia. Again, to say this check-in process was different would be a huge understatement. Unlike your typical check-in with long queues, growling stomachs, and throngs of people, we waited in our own lounge with champagne and canapés away from the crowds. We made sure to document the entire experience so that we could share it with you:

First Impressions

So what is it like to sail on a ship within a ship? Is the Butler actually a real person, or is it just a glorified room steward? And what exactly is a canapé? The first 24 hours on board was a whirlwind. There were so many new experiences – and so much food! Considering this was our first-ever MSC cruise, it was a GREAT first impression! You can check out our detailed review of that first 24 hours, along with what we thought about MSC Meraviglia:

Full Review to Come!

Now that we’re back on solid ground, we’re working on our full review of our 9-day sailing on board MSC Meraviglia in the Yacht Club. We’re going to cover the things that we loved, didn’t love, and a couple things that we hated about the ship and experience.

As always, thanks for joining this cruise life of ours and following our adventures! -Mark and Rocky

Doesn't the upgrade to Yacht Club pay for itself?

Premium Drink Package - 500 PP

Internet - $150 PP

Gratuity - $150 PP

Spa - $100 PP

Upgraded Dining & Amenities

As long as it doesn't cost over $1000 per person per state room isn't this a steal?

Am I missing something? Does Yacht Club Benefit not apply when you win an upgrade (Celebrity does this).

Does it cost less than $1000? If yes I agree, it's a steal.

If you are sailing out of the US, the gratuity (in the form of a daily Service Charge) isn't really excluded.  It's $14.50/person/night.

I meant the Thermal suite, I'm sailing out of europe/asia, so I guess its included there.

Is it included for Europe/Asia Sailings? Or is it based on where it is booked

5 minutes ago, Encapsulated said: Is it included for Europe/Asia Sailings? Or is it based on where it is booked

For sailing in the Mediterranean, Europe, Middle East or Southern Caribbean, I believe the rate is 12 Euros (not $, of course).  It's been a while since we sailed overseas.  Usually do flights and land-based travel to Europe these days.

I have won bids up to Yacht Club five times as a solo. Definitely worth it even though they double my bid.

Yes, but you do not get a refund for the drink package you have already purchased.

We have two YC cabins, on an upcoming cruise. We keep getting upgrade emails (3 now), and the prices are crazy. They want a min bid of $870pp to go from an interior to a deluxe., For our deluxe they want a min of $6045pp for the owners (still available), and $2645pp for the Royal. Are people really regularly paying face value for an upgrade bid??

That is really what the 'upgrade' offer is, what you would have paid to book it originally.

New to MSC and the yacht club. Can you please tell me what is included in the yacht club fare?

That is why cruising has so many types of ships. If exotic destinations are ones 'wish list' like Antarctica or the Society Islands, then smaller ships are the only way to go. If "dancing" is a priority a good travel agent could research which ships and theme cruises would satisfy ones desire. I recall dancing every evening on NCL Breakaway in their 'Manhattan Supper Club'. One just has to make up ones own list'. Here is our list for those that might have missed it, that Yacht Club has all of them.

Never sailed on a MSC ship in a cabin outside the Yacht Club. But we can list now all the things to look out for when booking any cruise ship.

#1 E muster drill is better

#2 Two cabin cleanings per day

#3 No % charge for gambling if using credit card

#4 No extra charge for can sodas vs fountain drinks

#5 Reserved seating in the theatre for all shows

#6 Complimentary bottled water

#7 Reserved or ability to reserve pergola/cabanas on pool deck

#8 'Cushioned' pool lounges

#9 Escorts on and off ship avoiding long lines

#10 First to use tenders off the ship at ports that tender

#11 Dedicated restaurant that is so good one need not book Specialty Restaurants

#12 Service that does not involve 2 hours to complete a meal

#13 An attentive butler not hard to find when needed

#14 Cabins ready upon embarkation/ key cards in hand at checkin

#15 Dedicated restaurant OPEN port days

#16 Dedicated buffet to only suite guests

#17 Dedicated pool and sun deck only for suite guests with ample lounges

# 18 All the advantages of a mega ship with the exclusivity of a gated community

#19 walk-in shower not low profile tub/shower combo

#20 No non-suite paying Pinnacle/Zenith/Diamond passengers taking up prime real estate in the Yacht Club

#21 Elevator over-ride key cards for suite guests

#22 Pristine out island with NO bugs crawling all over cabanas

#23 short distance between cabin and restaurant decks

#24 At least a 100 sq ft balcony accommodating a cushioned lounge chair

We are sailing in 20 days for my birthday and have submitted an offer for YC access. The only YC rooms available are balconies (10 left) so we bid for an Int YC room. I think we have a pretty good chance at getting an upgrade because we did the same thing in May for a short cruise and we ended up getting a YC balcony for only $220 PP! Our bid is more this time ($600 each). We are hoping lightning will strike twice, but if not we also have a YC Dec cruise booked (back when YC rooms were cheap - This Sept cruise the YC balcony rooms are $2600 PP!) I think there are also some YC rooms that will be released by travel agents a few days before the cruise and that will increase our chances.

Good luck, please tell us if you winn the upgrade.

We are sailing on World Europe in 3 weeks. Have booked Fantastic balcony but have put a bit on a YI.

Anyone have any idea how far out upgrades are usually awarded? We bid on an upgrade for ou 9/24 sailing. We made a "strong" offer according to their little dial, so I am hopeful, but not sure when to expect word on whether our bid was accepted.

I have heard up to 48 hours before sailing beforeyou know if you won a bet.

Captain-John

Captain-John

Not MSC, but the bidding programme is run by the same provider (Plusgrade). We found out sitting in the terminal in Miami after already checking in for our non-Haven stateroom on NCL. We checked in around 11:30, I got an e-mail at 12:30 sitting in the 'holding pen' to say we'd been succesful.

A couple called in to cancel at the last minute and it took a few days to filter through to the e-mail landing in my inbox. All the paperwork in the cabin still referred to the 'original' guests by name.

Missed out on the 'VIP' check in and had to stand in a line at Guest Services once onboard to get our Haven keycards, but otherwise were pleased.

Bottom line, it can happen any time and NCL very publicly caveat it to say it can happen up to 5pm on day of sailing - so conceivable you could already be onboard and in your original stateroom when it happens.

Face value is only determined on what you paid originally.

You also need to look at original prices, not now in case they have been discounted.

MSC CRUISES TO HOST NAMING AND CELEBRATORY SAILING FOR MSC WORLD AMERICA IN MIAMI AT NEW CRUISE TERMINAL

• guests attending the naming ceremony and celebratory inaugural sailing will be among the first to experience a new world of cruising aboard msc world america – miami’s newest flagship – on april 9, 2025 • the ceremony will be held at msc cruises’ new state-of-the-art cruise terminal, highlighting the company’s commitment to the north american market • celebratory sailing to follow with extended call at ocean cay msc marine reserve.

Geneva, Switzerland – 18 March 2024 – MSC Cruises, the world’s third largest cruise line, announced today that it will host the naming ceremony for its newest flagship – MSC World America – on the evening of April 9, 2025 at the company’s new PortMiami terminal. The ceremony will honour MSC Cruises’ investment in Miami and its commitment to the North American market, with the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle and a slate of immersive onboard events highlighting everything Miami’s newest ultramodern ship has to offer.

Guests attending the naming ceremony will be among the first to discover a new world of cruising when they set sail on a celebratory sailing that will see MSC World America call at the cruise line’s private island - Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve . The celebratory sailing’s itinerary calls for an overnight stay at Ocean Cay featuring the island’s signature evening lighthouse show and beach party. Guests will continue to enjoy Ocean Cay the next morning, followed by spending the afternoon at sea to experience the ship’s long list of unique and exciting on board activities and amenities.

The remarkable MSC World America will be MSC Cruises’ first ship in the U.S. market to be powered by LNG. MSC World America is the second of the line’s groundbreaking World Class ships and is specially designed with the North American guest in mind, featuring unique restaurants, bars and experiences that seamlessly blend European design with American comfort. Spanning 22 decks, measuring more than 47 metres wide and featuring 2,614 cabins, MSC World America will be the centerpiece of the Miami skyline when she is named in 2025.

Rubén A. Rodríguez, President, MSC Cruises USA , said: “There is no better place to welcome MSC World America than the cruise capital of the world. We look forward to seeing her sail out of our state-of-the-art cruise terminal built in partnership with Miami-Dade County and PortMiami. As we build upon our offering in the North American market and help attract more international guests to the Caribbean, we are excited to bring our newest and most remarkable ship yet to Miami. We eagerly await April 2025, when we can welcome guests onboard to experience the world of choice that our new flagship has to offer.”

The launch of MSC World America at MSC Cruises’ new PortMiami terminal, coupled with MSC Cruises’ upcoming $100 million U.S. headquarters in downtown Miami, underscores the Company’s unwavering dedication to South Florida. The PortMiami facility is poised to revolutionise the cruising experience for up to 36,000 guests each day. The terminal will support MSC Cruises’ continued growth at PortMiami.

Following the naming ceremony, MSC World America will set sail for her inaugural season on 12 April 2025. She will sail alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; Isla de Roatan, Honduras; and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas.

MSC World America is carefully designed to help reduce her impact on the environment. The ship runs on LNG, a lower-emissions fuel, and is ready for renewable energy sources. Shore power connectivity, where available, reduces emissions by allowing the ship’s engines to be switched off in port. Smart technology is used throughout the ship to ensure guests can travel in comfort while keeping energy and water use low. A robust onboard recycling program minimizes waste, and even the propellors are designed to reduce noise and avoid disturbing marine life.

MSC Cruises’ MSC Voyagers Club loyalty program: Everything you need to know

Compared to some of its closest rivals, MSC Cruises has a relatively modest loyalty program.

Unlike the frequent cruiser programs at Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line , the MSC Voyagers Club loyalty program doesn't offer its members a free cruise after reaching the top tier. It does not offer a massive discount on the single supplement charge for solo travelers, as Royal Caribbean offers its top-tier members, nor does it grant priority access to onboard shows.

For more cruise guides, reviews and news, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Still, the MSC Cruises loyalty program offers several valuable perks at higher levels, including a complimentary meal in an extra-charge specialty restaurant once per cruise and priority access to tenders in ports.

The MSC Voyagers Club program also allows you to status match your way into one of its top tiers — something that no other major cruise line loyalty program offers.

Ways to earn points

The points-earning system for MSC Voyagers Club is a bit convoluted, as the number of points you earn on any given cruise depends on various factors.

For starters, you earn points based on the length of the cruise you take and which MSC Cruises "experience" you book. As regular MSC Cruises customers know, the line offers four onboard experiences, each with different inclusions and price points. Bella is the most basic — and least expensive — experience available. MSC Yacht Club is the top experience available. Experiences called Fantastica and Aurea are in between.

For sailings of four nights or fewer, each passenger in the cabin will earn the following number of points depending on experience type:

  • Fantastica: 400
  • MSC Yacht Club: 800

For sailings of five to nine nights, every guest will earn the following number of points depending on experience type:

  • Fantastica: 700
  • Aurea: 1,000
  • MSC Yacht Club: 1,500

For sailings of nine or more nights, they'll earn the following number of points depending on experience type:

  • Fantastica: 1,000
  • Aurea: 1,500
  • MSC Yacht Club: 2,000

In addition to the above, you can also earn points for extras when spending money on MSC Cruises ships or when booking in advance of sailing. You'll earn 100 points for every $150 you spend on prepaid and onboard expenses.

One caveat: Only the MSC Voyagers Club member who makes the final payment for onboard expenses will receive those points. For expenses for prepaid services that apply to all cabin occupants (and not single occupants), points will be equally distributed among the cabin occupants.

For example, say the total amount of prepaid onboard services that apply to all cabin occupants before the cruise is $600. If there are four cabin occupants, the spending for the points calculation of each member will be $150, which is equal to 100 points.

Related: The ultimate guide to MSC Cruises ships and itineraries

The final way to earn points is by updating your contact details up to 72 hours before departure on your next cruise. This will earn you 100 points.

All points, including for the cruise, onboard spending and updating your profile, will pop up in your account about 10 days after the cruise is completed.

MSC Voyagers Club tiers and benefits

There are four tiers to the MSC Voyagers Club program:

  • Classic : 1 to 2,199 points
  • Silver : 2,200 to 4,299 points
  • Gold : 4,300 to 9,999 points
  • Diamond : 10,000 or more points

As is typical for cruise line loyalty programs, the entry-level tier (Classic) doesn't provide many truly valuable rewards. By far, the most alluring benefit at this level is the 5% discount members receive when booking future sailings. (This discount is not valid for MSC Grand Tours and when booking Tandem cabins, which are specially discounted cabins that parents can book for kids.) That's real savings every time you book a cruise.

Additionally, Classic members receive:

  • An extra 5% discount on Voyagers Exclusives sailings made six to nine months before departure
  • An MSC Voyagers Club e-newsletter
  • MSC Voyagers Club personalized luggage tags for embarkation in the e-ticket
  • An MSC Voyagers Club card
  • An invitation to a "welcome back" cocktail party
  • A dedicated number to call on board
  • Discounts on many packages and amenities, including onboard pictures, digital accessories, Wi-Fi and spa and fitness offerings
  • An MSC Shops discount (for each $50 spent in any onboard shops, you will receive a $10 discount)

Note that the MSC Shops discount has a lot of fine print. The discount is not combinable with promotions available on board and is not available for spending on tobacco products and electronics. It's also only valid on the first day of a cruise. That final point prompts us to downgrade the value of this perk considerably.

Upon reaching the second tier of the program, Silver, you get a couple of additional perks. The most notable to us is a $50 onboard credit per person, plus double MSC Voyagers Club points, for all bookings made more than 12 months before departure. (If you book nine to 12 months in advance, you get the $50 credit but not the double points.)

The Silver level also brings an unspecified milestone reward and all the perks of the lower-tier Classic level.

Related: Everything you need to know about MSC Cruises cabins and suites

You will be a member of the Classic level as soon as you take a single cruise, as it takes only 1 point to reach the Classic level. You also might be able to reach the Silver level in just one cruise if you take a long voyage of nine nights or more, pay for the top MSC Yacht Club experience and do a modest amount of onboard spending.

Still, a more typical cruiser sailing seven-night trips at a mid-tier Fantastica or Aurea experience level would need two or three cruises to reach the Silver level.

The elite level that makes a difference

Being loyal to MSC Cruises starts paying off in a more meaningful way once you reach the Gold level of the MSC Voyagers Club program. Even here, though, the rewards are still relatively modest.

The Gold level comes with one solid perk: priority disembarkation in ports where a tender boat is required. This can make a real difference in your cruising experience, as it means you can get off the ship much faster in some cases than the majority of other passengers. That will allow you to maximize your time in tender ports.

Additionally, Gold status brings all the perks of the tiers below it plus:

  • A complimentary one-hour thermal area session once per cruise
  • A complimentary gift
  • A complimentary photo taken during the "welcome back" cocktail party
  • A complimentary birthday cake when it's your birthday

It could take you as few as two cruises to reach the Gold level if you sign up for longer sailings and pay for the top MSC Yacht Club experience. Someone sailing seven-night trips at a mid-tier Fantastica or Aurea experience level would need four or five cruises to reach the Gold level.

The best elite perk with MSC Voyagers Club

Alas, there isn't a "wow" perk in the entire MSC Voyagers Club menu. As noted above, unlike some lines, MSC Cruises doesn't award top-tier members with truly high-value perks such as a free cruise. Still, MSC Voyagers Club's top Diamond status tier does come with a few enticing benefits.

Our favorite perk in the entire MSC Voyagers Club program is the complimentary dinner at a specialty restaurant that comes with Diamond-level status. That said, be warned that the complimentary dinner comes with a lot of fine print (so much fine print, in fact, that to use it verges on the ridiculous).

The complimentary dinner, in theory, is for you and a cabinmate. However, among the fine-print caveats is that two Diamond members staying in the same cabin don't get two free dinners.

If you and your spouse are both Diamond members, and you dine together using the perk, MSC Cruises counts that as you both using your perk for that one meal. That said, if you had two other people staying with you in the same cabin, you and your spouse could each use your perk to take one of them out for the free dinner, resulting in two free dinners for your cabin.

Additionally, the complimentary dinner privilege at specialty restaurants might not be available on all ship classes. Members under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at dinner. Also, drinks are not included with the complimentary dinner, nor are you allowed to bring outside drinks into the restaurant.

Related: The 6 types of MSC Cruises ships, explained

Should all that prove too confusing, MSC Voyagers Club Diamond status thankfully also offers two other solid perks:

  • A priority line for boarding on embarkation day
  • Priority disembarkation at the end of the cruise

Diamond level also provides all the perks of the tiers below it plus:

  • Courtesy bathrobe and slippers available during the cruise
  • A complimentary dance class
  • An invitation to an exclusive Diamond Party
  • Late cabin checkout on disembarkation day
  • A chocolate gift

Someone sailing seven-night cruises at a mid-tier Fantastica or Aurea experience level would need to take about eight to 10 trips to reach the Diamond level, depending on onboard spending.

In contrast to every other major cruise line loyalty program, MSC Cruises customers do not get "forever status" once they reach a certain tier of the MSC Voyagers Club. Once achieved, your status is only good as long as you take a cruise at least once every 36 months.

If you don't take a cruise once every 36 months, you will see your points in the MSC Voyagers Club disappear and your entire account erased. You'll have to reenroll and start all over again.

This is a notable difference from other cruise line loyalty programs, as "forever status" is one of the great allures of such programs. Many airline frequent flyer programs, by contrast, require loyalty members to requalify for status each year.

MSC Voyagers Club status match

As noted above, the MSC Voyagers Club program allows you to status match your way to its top tiers — something other major cruise line loyalty programs don't offer.

If you show proof of a high loyalty program status level with a competing cruise line, a hotel company or even a booking site such as Expedia, you can catapult your way from no status to a top-tier status with MSC Cruises in a jiffy. A high status level at an airline, alas, won't get you a status match at MSC Cruises, with a handful of exceptions such as a high status level at Air China.

This MSC Cruises status match, to us, is a big deal. It's one thing that sets MSC Voyagers Club apart from other cruise line loyalty programs.

The status match process at MSC Cruises is simple. Go to the dedicated enrollment page for MSC Voyagers Club status matching at the MSC Cruises website. You'll find a short online form where you enter some personal details (including name, birth date and address) and details about your status level with another loyalty program. You'll then have to upload a picture of your membership card for that program (or, if you don't have a membership card, a screenshot of your online account page showing your name and status).

That's it. Within a few days, you'll get an email or text welcoming you into the MSC Voyagers Club program at a status tier that matches your status with the other brand.

The dedicated enrollment page lists more than 60 loyalty programs from which you can status match into the MSC Cruises loyalty program. They include such cruise line loyalty programs as Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society and Carnival Cruise Line's VIFP Club program . Your status in the loyalty programs run by such major hotel chains as Hilton , Hyatt and Marriott also can be submitted for a match.

MSC Cruises doesn't offer a chart showing which tier of its loyalty program you will receive based on your tier at each of the other brands. Our staff members at TPG have had luck matching into the top Gold or Diamond tiers of the MSC Voyagers Club program from high levels of competing programs. One TPG editor received top Diamond tier status in the MSC Cruises program as a match to World of Hyatt Globalist status, for instance. Another staffer received Gold status in the MSC Cruises program as a match to the Diamond level in Royal Caribbean's program.

You can enter your status in only one program when seeking a match, so pick the program in which you have the highest status level.

Bottom line

MSC Cruises offers some decent perks in its four-tier loyalty program, including discounts and onboard credits when you book additional cruises. It also allows cruisers to status match their way to the top tiers of the program.

Still, the MSC Voyagers Club program is not nearly as robust a frequent cruiser program as those offered by such rivals as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

Royal Yacht Squadron in England

The rich and famous are not merely looking for the best place to anchor their yachts; they are also seeking out exclusive memberships in stunning destinations, all offering luxury amenities and, of course, bragging rights. These exclusive yachting clubs with often outrageous initiation fees, provide luxurious clubhouses, and provide accommodations for yachties who want to get their land legs. Most of them provide high-end concierge service to its members as well as Michelin-star quality restaurants and more.

Yacht Clubs have been recognized in the Platinum Clubs of America elections for more than 20 years. According to the Platinum Club, “Recognition in the following categories is important in the selection of Platinum status; Tradition, history, and heritage, a respected membership, excellence in amenities, exceptional service, adapting to changing times, and overall experience.

I spoke with the President of Club Leaders Forum, David V. Smith, about the selection, and he says, “we created an alphabetical selection this time as opposed to by rank because we felt that it was challenging to compare a yacht club in Ireland with a yacht club in Singapore, as amenities, location and facilities do vary quite a lot. The yachting and boating world is a different and unique culture, typically a little more relaxed and not as formal as country clubs and golf clubs. However, many of the world’s finest yacht clubs have wonderful history and traditions, with a great sense of camaraderie among their members. Certain yacht clubs were selected by the Panel not necessarily for their facilities and amenities but in their recognition of hosting world class sailing regattas and events.”

Here are the top 50 most exclusive yacht clubs worldwide being awarded the ultimate Platinum Status for 2021.

Sometime in the early 1600s, sailing for private pleasure started to to become popular in the Netherlands. Later that century, during the Cromwellian years, King Charles II of England was in exile in the Netherlands and while there he became aware of this new and exciting pastime. According to Royal Cork Yacht Club, “By 1720, interest in the sport had progressed so much that his great-grandson, the 26 year old William O’Brien, the 9th Lord Inchiquin, and five of his friends got together to formalize their activities and in so doing established ” The Water Club of the Harbour of Cork.”

This club is known today as the Royal Cork Yacht Club and it is the oldest yacht club in the world. It was originally located on Haulbowline Island before moving to the town of Cobh and finally establisged in it's current location in Crosshaven.

The reigning Club President since 1984 has been His Royal Highness, Prince Sovereign Albert II, and a suitably formal dress code for day and evening wear is enforced at all times. Membership is limited and very, very exclusive: prospective candidates must submit an application form to the club committee and be introduced by two sponsors, both of whom must be existing members. The successful applicant will be welcomed with an ice-breaking cocktail party and gala dinner in their honor.

The futuristic clubhouse was redesigned in 2013 and overlooks Port Hercules, it offers up very popular cocktail bar and Mediterranean restaurant.

msc cruises upgrade to yacht club

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
