“Good view, food and service.” Review of The Waterfront

This restaurant is new and has a great view. Inside and outside seating. They have misters and fans outside. It was about 90 out, but comfortable sitting on the deck. Great service and a clean restaurant. Good food and good prices. Will definitely eat here again. Open on Sundays but not on Mondays.

This lovely restaurant, situated on Mobile Bay in Daphne, just opened at the Lake Forest Yacht Club is a great addition to Eastern Shores dining. “Panini” Pete Blohme and business partner Nick DiMario are the new managers and have been put great care with the renovationd and rebranding. These guys are not new to a good restaurant, they are partners in PP Hospitality that own and operate Panini Pete’s and Sunset Pointe in Fairhope, The Waterfront in Daphne, Ed’s Seafood Shed in Spanish Fort and Squid Ink in Mobile, all are which outstanding dining spots. The atmosphere here is fun, comfortable, and welcoming with terrific views practically everywhere you look. While inside dining is available there's lots of covered outdoor seating with relaxing spots with couches inside and out. You'll also notice an open cold bar that can be viewed by customers. The sunsets from this spot are spectacular and with a full service bar and places to just chill it makes it a great place to gather with friends for the sunset show. Guy Fieri made an appearance at The Waterfront in Daphne Monday night. So on to our experience for our first visit June 8, 2023. We arrived around 2:30 and it was not crowded, there was handicap accessible entrance with ample convenient parking. We were warmly greeted and we're seated outside by the water in large comfortable chairs. Our server was Makenzie, who was very friendly, professional, and took great care of us, welcomed us and took our drink and app order. We started with their reasonably priced beer and the "Seafood Goblet which is pickled shrimp, cucumber, tomato, hearts of palm, yellow peppers, and chimichurri topped with crab meat, avocado and fresh lime juice in a big frosty goblet. It's visually stunning and overall the flavors were good but the avocado lacked seasoning but we enjoyed it. My sweetheart ordered The Royal, that's Argentinian shrimp, tossed in a citrusy smoked dressing, served on a grilled roll with fries. She thought it was tasty enjoyed it, and would definitely order it again. I opted for the Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich served with fries. It's slow roasted chicken thigh, with a papaya BBQ jerk sauce, spicy mayo, shredded lettuce, and tomato. Good to note that Pete has said that their dishes are influenced by other great waterfront restaurants and they do have an eclectic menu like Key West tacos, Argentinian ceviche, lobster roll, and jerk chicken but has been clear that it's "their" take on these dishes. With that said, I thought the jerk chicken was quite tasty, but was not like the jerk chicken I've had in Jamaica. It was tender, well seasoned but not spicy, and other than the bread it was enjoyable. Dessert was a very nice treat, it's not on the menu so I assume it's the item referred to as "Chef's Sweet Treat", was fantastic. It was a light cake covered with caramel, loaded with fresh blueberries and whipped cream. The issues I had were the app and entrees arrived very close together and even though the food came out veryvl quickly it wasn't very hot. The bun for my jerk chicken sandwich was a sad hamburger that was tasteless and fell apart with the tender juicy chicken and dressings. I would like to had it in a hearty brioche bun, if it has to be a bun, or even a hoagie roll would be a big improvement. I also saw no mention of locally sourced seafood, or other items, and I do like locally sourced fresh seafood, but I digress. Bottom line: We really love the venue, the people are outstanding, the food is good, very reasonably priced, and they offer a 10% veteran discount. Highly recommend!! This restaurant is relatively new and my review is intended to allow for some level of improvement. Fundamentally, don't bother. Wait a month or more. Service is slow, the food is average and the prices are outrageous. I ordered a sirloin burger--$15. It was small, dry and tasteless. The accompanying fries were cold and incredibly average. And to top it off, the server could not even figure out how to process our credit card for payment. Here is the kicker...The Waterfront charges a 3% fee for using a credit card. Many restaurants do, but the credit card fee is included with the food and beverage charges; which means that state taxes are then collected on the credit card fee. That is excessive and seemingly unfair. There are still allot of restaurants that do not charge a credit card fee...maybe they are more deserving of my business, and yours.

PP Hospitality Group to revamp a Daphne waterfront restaurant

DAPHNE — PP Hospitality Group is adding another waterfront restaurant to its hospitality empire.

The restaurant, currently known as Back Deck is in the newly renovated Lake Forest Yacht Club building located at 1 Yacht Club Drive in Daphne. The property is owned by the Lake Forest Property Owners Association (POA). Earlier this month officials there asked PP Hospitality, owned by Pete "Panini Pete" Blohme and Nick DiMario, to step in and take over operations.

The pair also own and operate Panini Pete's Café & Bakeshoppe, Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina, Squid Ink Eclectic Eats and Drinks and Ed's Seafood Shed. They are also currently working to open a food hall in the RSA Bank Trust Building in Mobile called Parc Le Tralour and own the MobTown Proper & Vintage barber shop in Mobile.

DiMario said the Lake Forest POA approached PP Hospitality to see if they could help the restaurant be revamped.

"After we looked around, Pete and I said we could help. We were interested in operating it," DiMario said.

The property checked all the boxes according to DiMario. There is plenty of parking, three bars, seats 300 and has unobstructed views of Mobile Bay and beautiful sunsets. The deck isn't covered but that is something DiMario plans to change.

Another aspect DiMario is excited about is the ability to have live music.

The restaurant will be called The Waterfront and will have a laid-back and fun vibe, he said.

"The Waterfront is going to be a whole vibe of the waterfront, food, fun, music and killer appetizers. It's going to be kind of like Squid Ink meets Ed's Seafood Shed meets Sunset Pointe all in one," DiMario said. "Expect killer hamburgers, tuna nachos, all kinds of cool fries, artichoke dip and grilled fish sandwiches. Super approachable and not fine dining."

While the goal was to reopen the Causeway location with a new concept, DiMario said they have run into some roadblocks and are currently evaluating what to do with the property.

"The project on the causeway has had so many things that got in the way from flood elevation to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to setbacks. The reality is to build that property it probably wouldn't be feasible based on the pylons and things that go there," DiMario said.

But when one door closes and another opens.

"When you have a situation that comes forward like that and now you have this other waterfront property that comes forward how do you get opportunities like that? How does something like that fall into your lap," Dimario said. "I think it is because you are doing good stuff. Building houses for people and telling people what they want to hear and what they don't want to hear. That is doing good stuff."

PP Hospitality has a lot of ideas for The Waterfront and DiMario is excited by the possibilities.

"The people at Lake Forest that we have been dealing with are super pumped about what we are doing there and excited about it. That makes it all great," DiMario said. "I think it will become a restaurant venue that becomes a destination on the water."

“Panini” Pete to open restaurant at Lake Forest Yacht Club

DAPHNE, Ala. ( WALA ) - Local Restauranteur and Celebrity Chef “Panini” Pete Blohme and the Lake Forest Property Owners Association Board have come to an agreement for him to take over operations of the restaurant at Lake Forest Yacht Club. The spot on Mobile Bay has held many names and seen many menu changes over the years but, there’s a lot of optimism going into this new partnership.

Nestled along Daphne’s scenic eastern shore is a unique spot not everyone knows about. The restaurant at Lake Forest Yacht Club has seen many changes over the years. After the latest renovation, the venue was shut down while a new plan was hatched. Soon, the property will reopen with new management, a new name and new expectations.

“We’re going to call it The Waterfront,” said Pete Blohme. “You know, we kind of like to have these lofty…like Sunset Point. It’s a destination…a feeling. It’s just not Pete’s Bar and Grill and same with this. It’s going to be called The Waterfront and this is where you come. You just say, hey. Let’s go to The Waterfront.”

Blohme owns several successful restaurants along the coast and is confident the reputation his brand has built will help expose the restaurant to a clientele that might otherwise pass it by. It won’t come without challenges, though.

“We’re going to be able to cause a lot of stir…a lot of excitement and you know, once they get here, it’s like a Jimmy Buffet song. It’s just going to transform you to another place, you know,” said Blohme.

Those who live in the area are excited by the news and are hopeful Blohme will be just what the restaurant needs to put it on the map.

“I think that this view is incredible. It’s going to bring people here. It’s just been needing something that didn’t draw people before,” said nearby resident, Leigh Copeland.

“We’re looking forward to what he will do with it because it’s a great location,” added Tori Adams-Holloway. “I mean, I think it’s the secret of the eastern shore for people who are not from the area.”

As for what you’ll find on the menu, Blohme said that will come in time but you can expect many of the dishes to be unique to this location.

“To me, I let the property…I let this location you know, influence what we do. This is the standard,” Blohme explained. This is the view. What do we need to do here in Daphne? It’s not the Sunset Grill. It’s not Ed’s Shed. It’s the waterfront.”

Blohme said there are some changes that are being made inside the restaurant and a roof being added to the waterfront deck that will all take some time to finish. If all goes as planned, The Waterfront will open for business sometime in March of 2023.
