What Is Yacht Week?

The Yacht Week is a famous seven-day festival hosted every year in six different locations, with Croatia being one. In brief, the festival is nothing less than a full-fledged water adventure. It includes a vast selection of activities organized by The Yacht Week. One of the rules of the Yacht Week is to have an equal number of participants, both male and female, who have earned their way into the yacht. The occurrences at Yacht Week remain a mystery as one would get on board having absolutely no idea as to how the next seven days would be beside the standard understanding of the festival. This limited knowledge regarding the itinerary and schedules is what makes the festival all the more exciting.

Where to Book for Yacht Week in Croatia?

Start with trying to gather your like-minded friends around and book a boat, or if you intend to go solo, make sure to book a cabin for yourself on one of the yachts early on!

Make sure to book from their official website (www.theyachtweek.com). The boats per route are limited, so book in advance!

Yacht Week in Croatia Prices and Categories

Yacht Week Yachts

As they say, good things don't come easy and if you're wondering what would the cost of the trip be like, let us give you a brief idea.

The overall cost of the Yacht week in Croatia depends on aspects of your destination, itinerary, the group size and the kind of yacht you would like to charter! You either have an option to book a full yacht (can accommodate a group size of 6-12 people) or a cabin (for two people) on one of the yachts.

The former has three categories to choose from; the rates are per person - Standard (starts at $ 550), Premium (starting $ 752) and Premium Plus ($ 777 onwards). The prices for renting a cabin would range from $ 650 to $ 995 per person, depending on the package inclusions.

However, be prepared to shell out additional money on the airfare, airport transfers, and other exclusions. Do read everything clearly before booking!

Good experiences don't come cheap, right?

Hiring a skipper

Skippers are yacht professionals certified in the sport. They maintain the safety and security of the audience and ensure their excitement meets the perfect experience. These licensed sailors who would be onboard with the crew, also teach those who are willing to learn the art of yachting.

Skipper hiring is an easy process; it would require a couple of online methods. But what is difficult is pinning down the right skipper for you, regarding experience, certification and hospitality. Here are some of the websites through which you could get in touch with your personal skipper:

The Yacht Week Announces Dates for Summer 2023

The Yacht Week

Young, adventurous travelers can now book for summer 2023 on The Yacht Week and join a flotilla of like-minded people to enjoy a unique mix of sailing, parties, activities and exploration. With a choice of routes in Croatia, Greece, and a new route in Turkey, there is no better way to spend time with friends, and make new ones from around the world, as guests set sail and sleep under the stars, all set against a stunning scenic backdrop and a party soundtrack. Guests should book quickly to secure early bird access and pricing.

Summer 2022 saw another sold out season as The Yacht Week took over 900 yachts to the water, hosting 10,000 people from over 50 countries on a seven-day trip-of-a-lifetime. Once again in 2023, groups of friends or solo travelers can charter a yacht of their choice, together with a skipper and host, and enjoy the best week of their life. Based on previous years, the best value and biggest yachts across Croatia, Greece and new destination, Turkey, will sell out fast.

Nothing beats the feeling of joining friends on a luxury yacht adventure and The Yacht Week can be trusted to deliver the perfect experience. All routes offer guests a carefully curated 7-day itinerary full of unforgettable experiences as they wake up to a different view each morning; the chance to swim and snorkel in natural bays, take part in a regatta, explore local towns (hire ATVs or VW Beetle convertibles to go even further), go hiking, kick back at stylish beach bars and restaurants (the hosts are also trained to cook delicious meals on the yachts using local ingredients), party in unique locations every night with a roster of international DJs and much more.

yacht week in croatia 2023

For those guests who want to explore all day and party all night the faster paced Croatia routes are the perfect choice. Sailing the islands and coastline around Split, every day in Croatia is an adventure and every night is a new party, from clubs to deserted islands, with world-class DJs dropping the best tunes. The Yacht Week even provides an exclusive party at the historic Fort George in Vis. Out at sea, the circle raft and tunnel raft parties see DJs perform on the ‘Buzz Boat’, a floating DJ booth fully loaded with VOID Acoustics sound-system alongside the world’s first floating dance floor. If recovery is required, guests can sleep in the sunshine on the yacht deck, try beachside yoga or a workout, or meander up the old-town streets of the iconic town of Hvar to enjoy sunset over the medieval castle of Fortica.

Guests can choose to make music central to their experience with Croatia routes including Ultra Festival, where, alongside The Yacht Week’s bespoke music programming, dance music fans can attend one of the biggest and best EDM, house and techno festivals in the world as VIP guests. And what better way to get there than by yacht? This is a festival experience like no other.

2022 also saw the launch of The Yacht Week Presents, and a week-long collaboration with cutting edge techno label Drumcode. This week returns in 2023 and continues to redefine what a music festival can be as an exclusive selection of techno and travel fans will enjoy intimate sets from renowned DJs, such as Drumcode founder Adam Beyer, in unique locations such as a lighthouse, a deserted island, a submarine shelter, a historic fortress and more.

For a more relaxed pace guests can sail the crystal-clear waters around the Saronic Islands in Greece. There are still plenty of DJs and themed parties, as well as raft parties where the yachts join together out at sea, but there is also more focus on chilling with cocktails at day parties, sunset sessions, staying overnight in deserted natural bays and exploring local shops, restaurants and bars in ancient backstreets.

In summer 2023, The Yacht Week returns to Turkey – the first time since 2015 – where a strictly limited number of yachts will sail the Turkish riviera around Fethiye on the most inviting, mirror-like seas reflecting stunning sunsets each evening. Guests will enjoy boujee beach bars on gorgeous soft yellow sand, Turkish baths, and a culture which embraces community, food and adventure. This route will include a carefully selected itinerary put on by The Yacht Week’s knowledgeable team as well as some unforgettable parties of course. This new route will be a talking point of the summer for those lucky enough to secure a place.

Last summer The Yacht Week continued to show guests that life is better at sea, with many enjoying life-changing experiences such as learning to swim, discovering a new love of sailing, learning about food and cooking on yachts and more – The Yacht Week is so much more than just a holiday. Established in 2006, the team are highly experienced and can be trusted to help create memories that will never fade. With bookings now open for 2023, those travelers ready to do something incredible should book now and prepare for the best week of their lives.

Drumcode and The Yacht Week announce Croatia 2023 lineup

yacht week in croatia 2023

Drumcode and The Yacht Week will join forces once again in summer 2023 as a flotilla of yachts filled with techno fans and Drumcode artists come together to sail the stunning Croatian coastline and enjoy 7-days of music and intimate parties in truly unique locations. The debut event this summer was something special and 2023 is set to be even bigger and better with a lineup of serious techno talent. Announced for 2023 are Adam Beyer, Marco Faraone, Layton Giordani, Juliet Fox, Anna Reusch, Eli Brown, Bart Skils, and Wehbba. The Yacht Week Presents Drumcode takes place from 27th May to 3rd June 2023 with limited places available to book now at www.theyachtweek.com . Spots start at just €856/£765/$862 per person.

The Yacht Week and Drumcode have partnered up to dispel the myth that techno is made purely for underground clubs, raves and festivals. This unique experience provides the perfect platform, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Adriatic sea and Croatian islands, to demonstrate the versatility of techno as a genre and highlight the nuances and different energy levels that different artists can bring.

Last summer, Drumcode and The Yacht Week’s debut saw guests and artists converge to create an unforgettable atmosphere. Guests were able to enjoy close-up and exclusive DJ sets from world-class DJs as the event redefined what a music festival can be. Drumcode and The Yacht Week delivered a truly inclusive vibe with DJs partying alongside guests and sailing together as one group of like-minded people. Juliet Fox even took a yoga class for guests as she immersed herself in the experience.

Drumcode founder Adam Beyer said “The intimacy of this unique experience truly blew me away – staying on yachts metres apart, exploring all day and partying all night with the Drumcode family. It was amazing to meet people who had travelled from Argentina, Australia and LA for the event, all connecting over our shared love of the music. This exceeded all my expectations and I can’t wait to do it again next year.”

Next summer will also deliver an even more intimate experience with guests getting additional opportunities to meet and spend time with the artists.

Venues in 2022 included a lighthouse on a deserted island, a submarine shelter and a historic fortress, as well as sets, played from a floating DJ booth – fully equipped with VOID Acoustics sound system – to the world’s first floating dance floor. Summer 2023 will step it up again, with more unique venues, pop-up parties and surprises to be announced.

Curated by Adam Beyer, the lineup for 2023 has been carefully selected and includes a few new faces including the extremely talented DJ / producer Marco Faraone joins, as does rising star Anna Reusch who has a forthcoming track on Drumcode’s popular compilation series A-Sides Vol 11. Eli Bown joins the lineup, named as Adam Beyer’s ‘Rising Star DJ / producer of 2022’ in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs chart. Wehbba is another new name on the trip, a Drumcode stalwart with a big reputation. Returning for a second year are, Adam Beyer of course, Layton Giordani who has just dropped the massive ‘Rabbit Hole’ on Drumcode – a collab with Hi-LO, Juliet Fox who also has a forthcoming track on A-Sides Vol 11, and Bart Skils, a vital Drumcode artist who just released his ‘Horsepower’ EP on the label.

yacht week

Are you a party animal in search of an unforgettable experience? Look no further than The Yacht Week in Croatia! This week-long extravaganza is held annually in the beautiful and underrated destination of Croatia. But here's the twist - all the parties take place on yachts! If you're ready for an adventure filled with epic parties, stunning scenery, and lifelong memories, then The Yacht Week is the place to be.

What is The Yacht Week?

Choosing your route, booking your yacht week experience, accommodations on the yachts, exploring the islands, the parties - the highlight of each day, dining on the yacht week, budgeting for the yacht week, the importance of your crew, arrival and departure.

The Yacht Week is a renowned seven-day festival that takes place in six different locations, with Croatia being one of them. It all started back in 2006 when a group of friends from Sweden decided to create their own sailing experience for adventure seekers like themselves. Since then, The Yacht Week has grown to include 70,000 people who love to explore, party, and sail.

When it comes to The Yacht Week in Croatia, there are seven different routes to choose from. Each route offers a unique experience, with varying levels of partying, local exploration, and cultural immersion. The Original Croatia Route is the most popular choice, known for its legendary parties and breathtaking scenery. But if you're looking for something different, you can also opt for routes in Italy, Greece, Montenegro, the Caribbean, or Grenada.

Once you've decided on the route that suits your preferences, it's time to gather your crew and book your yacht or cabin. It's important to book early as the boats per route are limited. You can book directly through the official website of The Yacht Week to secure your spot and start planning for the adventure of a lifetime.

During The Yacht Week, your home will be the yacht itself. While the accommodations may not be lavish, the boats are well-maintained and provide a comfortable space for you and your crew. It's important to note that space on the yachts can be a bit cramped, so be prepared for close quarters. Most boats have multiple bathrooms, but it's essential to be mindful of water usage and follow proper toilet etiquette.

While The Yacht Week is known for its epic parties, it's also an opportunity to explore the stunning islands of Croatia. From secluded bays to charming towns, there's no shortage of beauty to discover. Take the time to go on excursions, rent a Vespa and explore the islands, or simply walk around the towns and indulge in local delicacies. It's all about finding the perfect balance between partying and experiencing the culture and natural wonders of Croatia.

Let's not forget the main attraction - the parties! The Yacht Week Croatia is famous for its legendary parties, and each day offers a unique and unforgettable experience. From the Riviera Chic party in Hvar to the Fort Party in a historic fort, the festivities are non-stop. Snagging a table with bottle service is highly recommended for a more comfortable experience. The Raft Party and Regatta are also highlights not to be missed. It's all about dancing, socializing, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

While onboard, you'll have the option to have your own hostess who will cook breakfast and lunch for you and your crew. Trust us when we say, this is worth every penny. Your hostess will take care of the meals, ensuring that everyone is well-fed and ready to take on the day's adventures. However, there are also plenty of opportunities to eat out at local restaurants and enjoy the delicious cuisine of Croatia. Don't forget to try traditional dishes like Peka, and indulge in some mouthwatering ice cream from local shops.

It's important to be prepared and budget accordingly for The Yacht Week. While the cost will depend on various factors such as the route, yacht type, and group size, it's essential to account for expenses like groceries, port fees, water taxis, bottle service, and group dinners. Splitting costs evenly with your crew is recommended to ensure a fair distribution of expenses. Planning ahead and using apps like Splitwise can help keep track of expenses and settle the bill at the end of the trip.

Your crew plays a significant role in the success of The Yacht Week. It's important to have a group of like-minded individuals who are open-minded, responsible, and ready to have a good time. The Yacht Week places emphasis on the ratio of guys to girls in your group, so it's crucial to ensure a balance. Having a skipper and hostess on board is also highly recommended, as they will provide guidance, take care of logistics, and enhance your overall experience.

Arriving a day before the official check-in time is recommended to avoid any potential travel delays and ensure a smooth start to your Yacht Week adventure. Booking accommodations near the marina allows for a good night's sleep before embarking on your journey. On the departure day, you'll return to the marina, check out, and bid farewell to your yacht and crew. It's a bittersweet moment, but the memories and friendships forged during The Yacht Week will last a lifetime.

The Yacht Week in Croatia is an experience like no other - a perfect blend of adventure, partying, and exploration. From sailing the stunning Croatian coastline to dancing the night away at legendary parties, this week-long extravaganza is sure to be the best week of your life. So gather your crew, book your yacht or cabin, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Embark on The Yacht Week in Croatia, and let the party begin!

Guide to the Yacht Week Croatia Itinerary

  • By Susan Weston

What is Yacht Week Croatia?

Yacht Week is a week-long sailing adventure around the Croatian Islands on your own Catamaran. It is basically college spring break with an itinerary of partying all day and night. Our boat was the oldest ranging from our late 20s to 52 (Damn Damon), but I had assumed it would all be college kids, and it wasn’t. Most boats were in their 20’s and early 30’s. Despite our ages, our boat was the party boat, and we ended up with quite the reputation.

Our Itinerary During Yacht Week Croatia

* Schedule subject to change.

Itinerary Day 1 – Trogir

Day 1 was frustrating. We were all super excited. We had already checked out of our hotels and had all our luggage with us, but we had to wait until almost 5 p.m. for the skipper and host to prepare the boat. We spent breakfast and lunch at the same restaurant (poor servers). Then we went to the pier and sat there waiting and waiting and waiting. It was a buzz kill for sure, but it all worked out. Just be prepared.

Shout out to our skipper, Simon and host, Mia! They were the best and were 100% the reason we had such a good time.

Itinerary Day 1 was spent waiting Yacht Week Croatia

It’s important to know which marina your boat will leave from when planning your accommodations. We departed from ACL Marina Trogir, which is located farther away from Split but closer to the airport, so it worked out well for us. The pre-party on Day 1 was held at Padres, a bar located in Trogir. Since we were staying in Trogir, we could easily walk to the bar instead of taking a water taxi like other Yacht Week boats. Just a heads up – your catamaran will not leave the dock until Day 2.

Cover Charges During Yacht Week

Carpe Diem, Padres, Hula Hula, Club 585 and Fort George are private Yacht Week events. Other events are for the general public, but your Yacht Week bracelet grants free entry.

Group at Way Point Hvar drinking coffee Itinerary Day 2

Itinerary Day 2 – Hvar

We sailed to the ACL Marina Palmizana near Hvar. It is a small, secluded island with a beach, a coffee shop, and showers. In the evening, we took a water taxi to the beach club Carpe Diem, located on its island of Stipanska, for the Siren’s Call party. It was sad to see that many people didn’t follow the theme. Don’t be those people. After that, we took a boat taxi into Hvar and went to Kiva Bar. Hvar is a beautiful city with small alleys filled with bars and restaurants. Although Kiva was fun, it was packed with people.

Laundry During Yacht Week Croatia

The ACL Marina Palmizana has laundry facilities. It is a perfect time to do laundry because you will spend two nights here.

Itinerary Day 3 – Hvar

Today is usually day 5 on the itinerary, but it was changed due to the weather. Normally, it is a much-needed recharge day. We spent the day hanging out with all the other Yacht Weekers on our boats, as there wasn’t much to do on the small island.  In the evening, we went into Hvar again. Our host recommended hiking 15 minutes to the fort for sunset, but it looked high, and we were lazy. There was a Yacht Week party at Hula Hula. It’s just a short walk from the water taxi drop-off.

Itinerary Day 2 Yacht Week Croatia

Yacht Week Drinking Tip: Roadies

Get some roadies for your walk to Hula Hula. We didn’t, and our new friends from London gave me a warm beer. I was appreciative, but why is it only Americans who like super cold drinks?

Advice for Hula Hula, Hvar

Getting a drink at Hula Hula was impossible, but we walked another 2 minutes and found a bar on the right-hand side with no line and a better view. I even met a guy from my hometown, which is very small. It is a small world.

At dinner, I decided to practice my Croatian language skills. I learned that “živjeli” means “cheers” in Croatian. I thought I was pronouncing the word perfectly, but the waitress and my table mates did not agree. The waitress spent 5 minutes at our table trying to help me before shaking her head and giving up. Nonetheless, I will never forget the word; I even got it tattooed on my back in Croatian Script.

yacht week in croatia 2023

Water Taxis

We bought round-trip tickets for our water taxi, but when we went to head home, we were told the taxi we had tickets for only came every hour. It was strange. They all looked the same.  The man who claimed that “he wasn’t our taxi” allowed me to board anyway, so who knows. It was a rough ride. I ended up sitting on the floor of the tiny boat between all the passengers. At least I was protected from getting wet. Just make sure the boat is going back to the right marina.

Where to Eat:   Silk (Ul. Sveti Marak 14, 21450, Hvar, Croatia) Serving Pan-Asian Fresh Street Food. Our host recommended it.

Itinerary Day 4 – Bol

On day 4 of the itinerary, we sailed to Bol. Our skipper was the lead, so we tied up along the waterfront while other boats had to anchor in the marina and take a tender. We walked 15 minutes along the beach to the Auro Beach Bar. The bar is at the island’s tip and was very windy, so beware. There is a little train that drives back and forth if you are feeling hungover. At night, everyone headed to Club 585. I won’t name names, but someone forgot I was in the bathroom on the boat and left without me. I’m blaming the alcohol.

Where to Eat: Taverna Riva (Frane radića 5, 21420 Bol, Croatia) – Located on the waterfront across from our catamaran. Beautiful view and delicious Mediterranean food.

Group at Taverna Riva eating dinner

Itinerary Day 5 – Sailing

Today was Regatta Day, which we thought would be a big event, but it turned out to be a simple sailing trip. We sailed together to our destination, where we anchored for the Tunnel Raft Party. Our group dressed in a Mario Cart theme for the Regatta but then changed into regular beach clothes.

The Tunnel Raft Party was a blast. All the boats were tied together in two long lines. A DJ played music from a boat in the middle, and everyone floated on their rafts and walked from boat to boat, enjoying the party. Again, we were lucky to have the lead skipper, so he ensured we were right next to the DJ. We transformed our boat into a Vegas Club with a VIP section guarded by a Velvet Rope. Damon and Johnny acted as bouncers, and anyone who passed by had to get a “Welcome to the Shit Show” tattoo. There was a rumor that our boat was the “Only Fans” boat, but that’s another story.

yacht week in croatia 2023

Itinerary Day 6 – Vis

Half of the group went on a day trip to a cave, while I decided to stay behind and find a coffee shop with Wi-Fi. At this point, I still had no idea where I was going after Yacht Week. I had no plans for the eight days until my flight back to the US. We had one last dinner with our skipper and host and went to Fort George for the final party.

Where to Eat: Villa Rustica (Mijurovac ul. 16, 21480, Vis, Croatia) – Most of the Yacht Weekers went to Fort George for dinner before the party, but our host recommended this restaurant for traditional Croatian food. It was delicious and within walking distance from our boat.

Itinerary Day 7 – Back to Marina

Sadly, we had to sail back to the marina. We stopped and had one more opportunity to swim before packing and cleaning.

And that is what the itinerary looks like on Yacht Week in Croatia. Would I go again? Absolutely. Have you already booked your trip? Check out the Top 11 Tips to Know Before Yacht Week Croatia .

4 Steps to Plan Your Sail Week

With several destinations to choose from, you can select a route based on your budget and the month most suitable for you to travel to Croatia. Plan your yacht week in Croatia by following these four steps:

One key difference between the two is that while every booking includes a skipper, only Premium and Luxury Packages include a host but you can add a host in the Customised Package .

Step 3: Select Your Payment Option

You can secure your spot on the yacht with a 10% deposit . You also have the option to pay in three easy installments —10%, 30%, and 60%— or divide the cost between each person in your party.

Each route is unlike the other. However, one thing is common among all of them— a week full of laughter and excitement with your best mates! But before that, let’s f irst get you there!

You can travel to Croatia from four airports with the first three being the main airports widely chosen by travellers. The fourth airport is less likely chosen but worth mentioning.

1.    Split Airport If you choose Ultra Route

Most international flights land at the Split Airport. Every sailing area in the city’s region is easily reachable from Split Airport. Most areas such as Villa Marina and Trogir are 100 km away from the airport. If you choose Ultra Route we recommend arriving at Split Airport (SPU).

2.    Dubrovnik Airport

Dubrovnik Airport also sees a large number of international travellers. Although the city offers many sailing options, some people prefer to land at the Split Airport and then fly out of Croatia via Dubrovnik Airport.

3.    Zadar Airport

Zadar Airport sees its share of international flights as well. Travellers wanting to access a region north of Split can choose a flight landing at Zadar Airport.

4.    Zagreb Airport

Zagreb Airport is a practical choice for travellers planning to visit the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. The city is more than 400 km away from Split and 200 km from the coast.

However, your sailing party in Croatia will be incomplete without a yacht.

In each city, you’ll find a wide range of companies with a diverse selection of yachts for rent.

Croatia Yacht Charter:  Renting a Boat

Do you need a license to rent a boat in Croatia? It depends. Are you sailing a skippered yacht charter or a bareboat yacht charter?

  • Skippered Yacht Charters don’t require you to have a boating license, as the boat’s skipper will be navigating the charter.
  • Bareboat Yacht Charters require you to have a boating license.

If you’re opting for the second option, you’ll need to have the following sailing qualifications to be at the helm of the boat:

  • International Certificate of Competence from the European Sailing Authority.

yacht week Greece

  • RYA Qualifications allow you to sail a bareboat yacht charter out of Croatia.
  • American Sailing Association (ASA) issues the ASA 104 Bareboat Yacht Charter Certificate to sailors and it’s commonly accepted in Croatia.
  • US Sailing issues the International Proficient Certificate and the Bareboat Cruising Certificate. Croatia usually accepts both certificates.

Whether you’re renting a boat to steer yourself or sailing with a trained and licensed skipper, it’s important to have prior knowledge of the different types of yachts you can rent.

Choose Your Yacht for your Croatia boat week party

Your sail week in Croatia can’t begin without a yacht. Before you arrive in Croatia, consider shortlisting a few yachts to save time. Kickstart your yacht week in Croatia by choosing from one of the following yachts:

1.    Monohull Sailing Yachts (Sailboats)

Monohull sailing boats, powered by sails, are available at various “per day” rates. They are an affordable option for people on a tight budget. On the sailboat, you can easily hop from island to island, discover hidden coves, and come across sandy beaches. You can rent a sailboat by size depending on the number of people in your group. Large groups should consider renting a full-sized luxury yacht.

2.    Catamarans

Catamarans feature two hulls with a cockpit and a saloon between them. You can either rent a sailing catamaran (known as only catamarans) or power catamarans.

Catamarans feature two engines, but the sails are their primary power source. Larger groups prefer to rent luxury catamarans, as they are spacious and offer stability. Large-sized catamarans offer increased privacy and showers and toilets in the staterooms. There’s also ample space to sit comfortably on the deck and saloon.

Power Catamarans feature two powerful engines, which serve as their main power source. Since they don’t have a mast or sails like its counterpart, they offer even more room on the deck. If you’re opting for a luxury catamaran charter, it’s recommended that you take a crewed yacht charter in Croatia with a qualified skipper.

You can rent a catamaran for a week if you desire to spend the bulk of your holiday on the Croatian waters.

3.    Motorboats

Motorboats include everything from private boats used for fishing to luxury motorboat yacht charters outfitted with cabins. These boats are an ideal choice to take out into the sea because they generate sufficient speed to cover large distances in less time.

4.    Luxury Yacht Charters

As mentioned earlier, luxury yacht charters are available to rent for motorboats, catamarans, and sailing yachts. A crewed yacht charter in Croatia is slightly expensive but worth the value, as it provides you with a skipper, a host, and the freedom to create a personalised sailing route.

5.    Gulet Charters

Gulet charters are another luxurious option for people looking for a private sailing experience. The charter’s crew looks after you and your guests and the skipper shows you amazing marinas and anchorages in Croatia.

6.    Superyachts

Superyachts or mega yachts are around 24 metres to 180 metres in length. The humongous charters have a spacious chartering area and offer numerous pick-up points. They come with a trained crew and a skipper who possesses extensive knowledge of the wondrous places you’ll encounter on the sea.

7.    Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB)

RIBs are classified as cruising and fishing boats and are for day use only. If you don’t want to spend a week on the ocean, you can rent a RIB for one day to explore the Croatian coast and discover tranquil beaches.

So, how much does it cost to rent a boat in Croatia?

It all depends on your budget. The type of boat, the number of days you need it for, and the facilities you opt for such as a crewed yacht charter in Croatia all determine the price. Renting a luxury yacht with a skipper and crew or a superyacht typically costs more than a monohull sailing yacht for instance.

You will also need to buy insurance such as non-refundable insurance or make a refundable damage payment on your credit card. You need to factor everything from flying out to Croatia, renting a boat, as well as purchasing insurance, paying for additional facilities, and the cost of food and drinks to come with a budget. With a budget in hand, you can find boats that fit within it.

Still, the main question remains— have you decided on the city you will set sail from in Croatia?

Recommended Croatia Regions to Charter a Yacht

Croatia has several cities with marinas, so it can be quite confusing if you’re not familiar with the regions most frequented by avid sailing enthusiasts. The following list will help you choose a region to charter a yacht from:

1.    Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, the Adriatic Coast’s jewel, is an ancient walled town that attracts travellers with its promise to show them a good time on the sea. Many companies based in the city offer boat rental in Dubrovnik.

From Dubrovnik, sail 88.64 nautical miles to reach the city of Split, Croatia’s port city. After you rent a boat in Dubrovnik, you can charter it from the ACI Marina in Komolac. The marina is located about 4 km away from the centre of Dubrovnik.

You can travel to the marina by car, taxi, or bus. You can rent a sailing boat, motorboat, catamaran, or a yacht charter. Most people who rent yacht charters do it with the purpose to visit Montenegro . The boat rental company can guide you on the type of boats you’re allowed to take outside Croatia.

2.    Istria

The north Istrian coast features small fishing villages and the Brijuni Islands. You can rent a boat in Istria from the ACI Marina Pula, Marina Veruda, Marina Trget, ACI Marina Pomer, and Marina Nautica Novigrad.

3.    Kvarner

Kvarner also goes by Kvarner Bay and Kvarner Gulf. The bay, situated between the Croatian Littoral mainland and the Istrian Peninsula, is home to five large islands, Krk, Cres, Pag, Losinj, and Rab. Situated next to Istria, the bay is centred around Rijeka, the busiest port city on the Adriatic Coast. The most frequented resort in the region is Opatija.

4.    Sibenik

Sibenik, situated on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, has several notable sailing areas. They include Marina Mandalina in Sibenik and ACI Marina Vodice, Marina Tisno, and Port Tribunj located northwest of Sibenik.

Southeast of Sibenik, you will find the Marina Kremik and Marina Frapa. On Murter Island, you’ll find the ACI Marina Jezera, Marina Hramina, and Marina Betina. You can rent a boat in Sibenik and sail with your friends and family from one of the city’s sailing areas.

5.    Split

Split is the second largest city in Croatia with a well-known and fully-established marina network. The city draws travellers to its striking beaches and historic architecture. If you rent a yacht from Split, you can sail to Kastela, Trogir, Voda, Makarska, Seget, and Baska, and easily see them all in one week.

6.    Zadar

Zadar is another Croatian city with a well-established and popular marina network. You can sail to Croatia’s northern sailing regions from Zardar because it serves as the primary access point. Known as Croatia’s chartering centre, you’ll find numerous vessels chartered in Dalmatia. Since the city is near the airport, it won’t be difficult to rent a boat in Zadar. Compared to other regions in Croatia, the rental costs for boats is more affordable.

Are you gearing up to travel to Croatia and sail the sea encircled by the entrancing scenery? Once you know the type of boat you want to rent and the city you want to start your sailing adventure from, it’s time to pick the months and the dates.

When to Visit and the Type of Weather to Expect?

The months of July and August see a surge in boat rentals. Regardless of the month you choose for your sail week in Croatia, you’ll come across uncrowded anchorages located far away from the busier major urban centres during peak season.

In July and August , the prices increase whereas prices decrease in May and September . Not only is it less crowded in May and September , you’ll be delighted with the excellent weather and warm sea.

Here’s a look at Croatia’s Climate:

  • You can anticipate a warm climate with gentle winds between May and October.
  • In May, the temperature will be at least 14C.
  • In July and August, the temperature will be about 28C on average.

It’s vital to know about the various winds that Croatia sees. The five main winds that can sail or sink your sailing plans include:

  • The Bora is a dry and cold wind. Expect this wind when you see clouds forming above the mountains that are more than 400 metres in height. However, it’s unnoticeable to anyone who is at a distance of more than 4 kilometres from the peaks.
  • The Jugo invites wet weather in high-pressure regions over the Adriatic Coast. Although the wind tends to stay for many days, it brings warmth with it too due to its wind direction.
  • Libecci arrives after the Jugo leaves. It enters from the southwest and is known to be strong and dangerous.
  • Mistral arrives from the northwest. It’s more prevalent in the morning and disappears in the evening. Although not ideal sailing conditions, it’s still almost perfect for daytime sailing.
  • Tramontana arrives from the mountains in the north and with it, brings cool and pleasant winds to the seas. However, the wind gusts can be pretty powerful.

If you’re not sailing with a skipper, the various winds will tell you about the opportune time to sail the Croatian waters. If you’re navigating the boat, knowing and understanding the country’s weather patterns will come in handy.

You’re all set to sail!

Essential Tips for an Unforgettable Yacht Week in Croatia

Are you ready for the ultimate sailing experience in Croatia? If you’re looking for a sun-soaked getaway packed with adventure and fun, yacht week in Croatia is the vacation you’ve been waiting for.

Croatia is a beautiful country in the heart of the Mediterranean, known for its stunning coastline, historic cities, and delicious cuisine. And what better way to explore it than with Yachts Croatia , surrounded by family and friends who share your love of adventure and good times?

But before you set sail, it’s essential to do your research and prepare for the trip of a lifetime. That’s why we’ve compiled this guide of crucial tips for an unforgettable Yacht Week in Croatia.

Choosing the right yacht for your yacht week in Croatia

Sailboats in Croatia

When choosing the perfect yacht for your yacht week in Croatia, several factors come into play. Of course, one of the most critical considerations is your budget. Before looking for boats, determine how much you will spend on your trip. Remember that yachts vary in size, amenities, and prices, so finding one that fits your budget is essential.

Another factor to consider is the size of your group. Do you plan on traveling with your significant other, a few friends, or a larger group? This information will impact the type of yacht you choose. You’ll need to consider the number of cabins, bathrooms, and common areas to ensure everyone is comfortable during the trip.

The amenities you desire will also play a role in your yacht selection. Do you want a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi? Or are you more interested in having a spacious deck area for sunbathing and taking in the views? Whatever your preferences, there are a variety of yachts to choose from to suit your needs.

If you want to take the stress out of your vacation, consider booking a luxury yacht charter . This way, you can focus on soaking up the sun, exploring new destinations, and spending quality time with your friends or family.

Once you’ve selected your yacht, it’s time to plan your route. Croatia boasts many stunning destinations, including the beautiful city of Dubrovnik, the charming island of Hvar, and the picturesque Kornati Islands.

Research popular routes and destinations and plan the itinerary accordingly. Keep in mind that weather and sea conditions can impact your plans, so be flexible and prepared to adapt your route if needed.

Packing Essentials

When packing for a yacht trip, it’s essential to be smart and efficient with your luggage. One of the most important things to remember when packing is to bring comfortable clothes and footwear. Space can be limited on board, so pack light and carry only essentials.

Another important item to bring on your yacht trip is sunscreen. The sun can be intense on the water, so pack a high SPF sunscreen and reapply often. A hat and sunglasses can also help protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. Remember to pack towels, too, as you’ll need them to dry off after a swim or lay out on the deck.

Regarding food and drink, sailing in Croatia offers an incredible opportunity to sample the local cuisine. Provision your yacht with fresh seafood, local wines, and other regional specialties. Cooking on board can be a fun and enjoyable experience, so remember to pack some of your favorite snacks and ingredients.

Revealing The True Cost of Yacht Week Croatia

  • August 11, 2023
  • 8 minute read

Dreaming of setting sail in the Mediterranean, swimming in sparkling blue waters, and dancing in outdoor clubs on private islands? The Yacht Week Croatia is an iconic, super fun event that draws thousands of people each year – but the Yacht Week cost can be overwhelming for some before they understand their options.

The Yacht Week Croatia (the original Yacht Week route!) is on many, many people’s bucket lists. When I sailed with The Yacht Week Croatia, we had guests from as far away as the U.S. and Australia flying to Croatia to attend the event. If you’re dreaming about spending a week on the water, but aren’t sure how to start budgeting, I’m here to help you plan your Croatia Yacht Week adventure.

We set sail with The Yacht Week in Croatia in July 2023 – and despite the amount of research I did in advance, very few articles or budget breakdowns mentioned the true extent of the Yacht Week Cost. The Yacht Week boat fee is JUST the start – there are lots of hidden fees ! So how much does The Yacht Week cost, really? Let’s get into it with my detailed budget breakdown.

Not ready to read this article? Pin it now!

When is Yacht Week Croatia?

Tunnel Raft, one of the many reasons people want to sail Yacht Week Croatia

The Yacht Week happens every summer – it’s the most iconic (and the original) rent-a-yacht-and-party experience in the Mediterranean. The Yacht Week runs what they call several different “routes,” meaning they sail in a couple different locations (more on that below). However, Yacht Week Croatia is the “original route” – and the one many people pick for that very reason. Each year, Yacht Week runs seven day routes from May to August .

There are other Yacht Week routes. Nowadays, Yacht Week runs routes in Greece, Turkey, and even Tahiti! You can find a full list of their destinations here . However, the original route? That’s Yacht Week Croatia.

How much does Yacht Week cost?

Most people know The Yacht Week costs a pretty penny – but just how much does it cost?

A girl hangs off a boat during Yacht Week Croatia

The Yacht Week cost depends on several factors:

  • Do you want a cabin on a boat, or will you rent out an entire boat with your group?
  • If you do plan to rent out your own boat, how many people will be in your group to help split the cost?
  • Do you want a host, or will you handle your own food?
  • Do you want a simple boat, or will you upgrade to a luxury option (a bigger boat with air conditioning)?

Our group attended The Yacht Week in mid-July 2023 and opted to rent a single monohull with no A/C – the simplest, most affordable option. However, we did add a host to our boat to help prepare meals and tidy the boat, which added a small extra cost. It ended up costing us 10,500 USD for the entire boat with a host.

The great part about The Yacht Week is that you have multiple price tiers to fit a variety of budgets. Let’s dive into the breakdown.

The Core Yacht Week Cost (the Yacht Fee)

First things first: you’ll need to pick your boat. The Yacht Week offers four boat options:

  • Classic Monohull
  • Premium Monohull
  • Classic Catamaran
  • Premium Catamaran

Each option comes with a skipper, entrance to Yacht Week parties, towels and linen, and boat cleaning at the end of the week post check-out.

Though the costs change each year, generally, the classic Monohull is the most affordable option. When we sailed in 2023, the boat was 10,500 Euros total for the week. That’s the starting price, though a premium catamaran will cost quite a bit more (though it also fits more people!).

The classic monohull, the most affordable boats for Yacht Week Croatia

You can see how small the classic monohull looks above, but don’t be surprised — it fits more than you might expect!

The inside of the classic monohull, the most affordable boats for Yacht Week Croatia

If you’re unhappy with these options, Yacht Week has a luxury option that allows you to pick your own boat – many of which are often more expensive. We won’t talk about that option here, as it changes a little each year, both price-wise and option-wise.

Adding a Host to Your Yacht Week Experience

Above, we talked about the “Host” option for Yacht Week. What exactly is a host?

Breakfast prepared by a host on the Yacht Week Croatia

A host is your chef for the week – and she also helps keep the boat tidy and assists on deck when needed. The host will cook:

  • All breakfast meals on board
  • All lunch meals on board
  • Two dinners on board

If you’re booking a single cabin on your Yacht Week boat, you may find the host is often, if not always, included in the price.

However, if you’re booking your own boat to split with your friends, you’ll have the option to add your own host. The price of the host will depend on the amount of people you’re bringing on your boat. For six people, we ended up paying around 100 USD extra for the host each.

Lunch prepared by a host on the Yacht Week Croatia

Keep in mind your host and skipper will need their own cabin, so you’ll have fewer options to split the cost. Normally, the host will split a cabin with the skipper – taking 2 people off the total number of people to fill the boat.

Hidden Fees: Yacht Week Croatia

yacht week in croatia 2023

There’s a significant amount of hidden fees many Yacht Week attendees don’t fully understand until they book their trip. Paying for the boat is only a portion of your full cost! Let’s dive into the parts of The Yacht Week they don’t discuss.

  • Refundable yacht deposit/ security deposit: One person will pay this amount upon check-in. This deposit covers damage to the vessel. Assuming there is no damage, you’ll get the deposit back at the end of the week. You’ll pay $2,500 Euros, and you will almost always pay by credit card.
  • The Cash Kitty : The biggest fee no one talks about? The Cash Kitty. The Cash Kitty is a name assigned to a group of miscellaneous fees collected at the start of your trip. These include port fees, yacht fuel, shore power, water, ice, and water taxis – among other things. The cash kitty will vary for each boat , because shore fees and fuel needs will be different for each boat. You can use this nifty calculator on their website (hidden way down at the bottom) to learn about your estimated fees. For a monohull on the Croatia Original Route, fees run around 1950 Euros total – or 200 Euros per person. For a catamaran, those fees run around 2500 Euros total – or 245 Euros per person. The breakdown assumes, of course, you’re filling the boat. If you don’t plan to fill the boat, each person will need to pay more. At the end of the trip, if your skipper has leftover money, they will hand it back to you. On our boat, we had no leftover money.
  • Tip : You’ll need to tip your crew at the end of the trip, too! Your tip should be around 10% to 20% of your total booking price . That means for a classic monohull, a 20% tip would be around 2,000 USD . You will need to tip your crew in cash.
  • Food & drink : If you’re booking your own boat, you’ll need to worry about food and drinks, too – no matter if you have a host or not. Not every spot you dock will have easy access to restaurants or food (though most major ports will, of course). That’s why you should go grocery shopping in advance. For an entire week’s worth of food and drink for six guests, a host and a skipper, we paid around 850 Euros. However, we also opted out of one dinner and therefore had less food. A word of advice about the food situation: the best grocery store you’ll find? It’s near the dock, about a 10 minute walk away. None of the other ports had as large or well-stocked stores. So stock up early, if you can – because there aren’t always food options everywhere you go. That’s also why I recommend a host: she’s familiar with the boats and storage space. There isn’t a ton of room in the fridge, so it’s usually a tough fit.
  • Host & Skipper Food Fees : During your charter, you’ll need to cover any costs for your host and skipper to have food. It’s tradition to invite them to dinner with you and cover their costs. If you don’t want to do that, you’ll need to give them cash to eat dinner.
  • Transport to/from the marina : You’ll need to get to and from the marina, which will be assigned to you closer to the date of departure. Don’t fret – if you can’t afford a taxi, there’s an excellent bus that runs often between Trogir, the airport, and Split for two Euros.
  • Additional speakers and/or cooler : I know the Yacht Week website says the boats come with speakers, but that’s normally not true. If you want to blast music, you’ll need to rent a speaker. The speaker will cost 250 Euros to 300 Euros, depending on size. The smaller cooler will cost 70 Euros, the bigger one, 90 euros. If you’re visiting in peak summer, opt for the bigger cooler for sure. Keep in mind these are provided by a third party and prices fluctuate year by year. Pro tip: You can’t actually play loud music at most ports past 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. And some days, you’ll be at port for the entire day.So keep that in mind!
  • Misc. Costs : Be sure to bring some spending money for miscellaneous expenses. That means dinners on shore, for the most part, and drinks when you’re out and about. This should cost around 100 – 200 Euros at most, depending on how much you drink and how much you eat.

When you take the security deposit out of the equation, we brought around 500 to 1,000 Euros extra per person to cover the above fees – and spent all of it, too.

How many people do you need for Yacht Week?

yacht week in croatia 2023

You can travel with as little people as you want – or as many (to an extent).

If you want to go solo, you can book a bed in a cabin on a yacht. Alternatively, you can look on “Crew Finder” and other Facebook groups for groups looking to add people to their yachts.

However, if you want to rent out your own boat, you can fill it up. The maximum depends on your boat and whether you opt for a host. Generally speaking, it’s a maximum of 6 to 12 people. You can bring less, of course, but everyone will have to pay more to cover the total cost.

Do you need A/C?

The silhouette of a girl walking along a tide pool during Yacht Week Croatia

Ah yes, the golden question. Do you need air conditioning when you’re booking Yacht Week? Let’s be honest: Yacht Week costs can add up, and it may seem a little pricey.

Before getting on the boat, I read as many blog posts and forums as I could – and everyone recommended air conditioning. I was really worried because we booked a boat without air conditioning.

We traveled in mid-July, and it was really hot. We’re talking 38 degrees Celcius our first two days. Did we make it? Yeah, it ended up being totally fine . Many boats have lots of space to sleep outside. You can bring cushions and camp under the stars.

Boats rafted together for Tunnel Raft during Yacht Week Croatia

Half our boat opted to sleep outside, the other half, inside. Either way, everyone was surprised – it ended up being much easier to sleep than we expected. Later in the week, when it cooled off, most people ended up sleeping inside with no problems.

So do you need A/C? It’s up to you.

Remember: The reality is different, and not everything you read online is true. People we met with A/C on their boats told us the A/C had been broken…and was broken the entire trip and the entire season.

These are boats, after all. Things break, and they don’t always get fixed. If you book a boat with A/C, remember, there’s a chance it may be broken. In addition, remember you can only use the A/C when plugged into shore power (which was only 4 days on our route).

Final Musings

Yacht Week Croatia can be affordable – if you’re willing to skip out on some of the luxuries. One mentality shift? Think of it like camping! To optimize your Yacht Week Croatia costs, make sure to think about alllll the hidden fees and costs in advance. There’s nothing worse than being surprised with costs. Happy Sailing!!

Wow! This looks like an incredible adventure. My husband and I have been talking about spending a week on a catamaran around the Caribbean. This is definitely convincing me!

Thank you! Honestly, it’s so worth it (I even have sea sickness and loved it!)

Great tips and love the photos!

Thank you!!

Yacht Week sounds like so much fun! I love the idea of thinking of it a bit like camping if you can’t afford to splurge on all the luxuries. It’s good to know that it is an experience that most people can enjoy, even if you’re working with a smaller budget. Thanks for the comprehensive guide!

I had no idea about this. It looks very fun! 🙂

I would love to do this! Have not been to Croatia but have done flotilla sails in Greece, Caribbean and BVI. It is not cheap, but well worth it, I found. Thanks for the insights about this event.

That sounds amazing — it’s never cheap but it’s such a unique experience!

Have always wanted to do yacht week! Thanks for the info!

Oh this looks amazing! I’ve not sailed for years other than from a to b. I think I need to start considering more ways to travel around than the usual plane, train or car.

This looks like so much fun! I’ve always wanted to go on a yacht in Crotia. Looks like a great way to explore the area. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thank you for reading!! 100% bucket list!

This sounds like so much fun! I will definitely have to try it with the hubby one day!

It’s such a unique experience!

Introduction

10 things to do on a yacht charter during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Dalmatia Region

This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.

Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel',  Split  has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman  Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.

Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is  Dubrovnik,  a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.

Istria Region

Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.

Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.

Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

  • Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) - located on the southern coast of Brač, regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe.
  • Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
  • Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
  • Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
  • Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.

Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of  Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.

But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.

yacht week in croatia 2023

Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

close up of luxury yacht charter in Croatia

Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia

Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.

You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.

Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia

The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulet Charters in Croatia

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

  • For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses

Child playing in the sea during a yacht charter in Croatia

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .

Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.

For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .

Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.

It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

sample itineraries

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

Glittering blue marina in Croatia

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

  • ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
  • Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
  • ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
  • Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

  • D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
  • ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
  • Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

  • ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
  • Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
  • D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Dubrovnik's glittering blue waters and old port

With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide:  Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.
