Galati Yacht Sales began in 1970 as a dream and not much else. Michael Galati Sr. moved to Anna Maria Island in Florida with his wife and their five young children to support.

He purchased a tornado-devastated marina on Tampa Bay, with the dream of creating a service and boat dealership. “Well work hard and well make it, Michael would tell his wife, Anna Maria.

“My mom probably worked the hardest of any of us, recalls Carmine, the second oldest.

Besides caring for her family, Anna Maria Galati also managed the marina store and handled all the billing and deliveries. “I remember I would be holding Chris in one arm and pumping gas for the customers in the other, she says.

“It was a great place to be to grow up, remembers Mike, Jr. about living on the island. “We all started out working on the gas docks, washing boats and catching bait to sell.

The young Galati would all get up early in the mornings to catch pin fish that they would turn around and sell for bait.

When Michael Galati Sr. passed away in l992, the company ownership passed to his children. The Galati siblings were thoroughly prepared to take on a new level of responsibility as they had been trained in all aspects of the business from the time they were children.

They have grown it into one of the largest privately held yacht dealerships in the world.

We have been committed to exceeding the expectations of our customers since 1970. We cover the Gulf Coast and beyond with 8 locations in Florida, Alabama, Texas, and 1 location in Costa Rica.

In 1970, Michael Galati, Sr., and his wife, Anna Maria, moved to Anna Maria Island and founded Galati Yacht Sales. It was a family effort, based on hard work and a strong commitment to taking care of the customer before all else. They have built their family industry into a company with 12 dealership locations around the Gulf of Mexico, including Palmetto, Cape Coral , St. Petersburg, Destin, and Naples, Florida; Orange Beach, Alabama; and Houston, Texas. They have 171 employees, according to Boating Industry.

Voted the number one boat dealership in the country, for 2007 and 2008, by Boating Industry, the commitment of the five Galati siblings has really paid off. Their Customer Satisfaction Index was 95 in 2008.

Boating Industry based their award of the number one spot on Galati ’s myriad ways of offering service. From the way the sales team is structured to the thoroughness of every service appointment to the friendly question of whether any help is needed every time a Galati boat is encountered, the management and staff take care of their customers very well.

In choosing Galati as the most elite of the elite, Boating Industry’s editorial staff explains that they reviewed almost 350 applications, culled from more than 3,000 nominations. The applications asked both quantitative and qualitative questions regarding all aspects of marine dealer operations.

Although it’s hard to imagine how anyone can buy the luxury yachts sold by this Anna Maria-based company, especially in these economic times, the demand is still there. Most of the boats offer more square footage and luxury than the houses that surround their Anna Maria marina. Galati Yacht Sales is a surprisingly luxurious operation set in an otherwise modest Old Florida community. Especially because it was “home grown,” it is something the island can be proud of.
