Crosman Phantom

Usually when an air rifle , or for that matter any other shooting product, progresses to a point it’s given a ‘MkII’ designation, they’ve either been cosmetically modified or technically updated from the original bearing the same moniker or both.
In this case the Phantom Mark II covers all the above and, more to the point, this variant seems to bear no resemblance to the original Phantom whatsoever.
I say this as not only does the MkII model here on test omit open sights in favour of a bull barrel shroud/cum silencer , but the action also sits in a completely different stock design. Also, there’s a twist in the tale as, although the rifle clearly bears the words ‘Nitro Piston’ etched on the side of the breechblock, it still uses a spring piston power plant; not that this is easy to determine as you shoot the rifle, but more on this particular nuance later, as first I’ll begin by detailing what I feel many will agree is one of the rifle’s standout features – the stock.
Centrefire Influence?
The only similarity both models of Phantom share is that the action sits in a black synthetic ambidextrous stock. However, I’m sure many will agree that, cosmetically, the Mk II has a distinctive centrefire biased styling – in fact not that dissimilar to the Remington 700 series of rifles.
The sleek and stylish stock design features a generous and well-defined cheekpiece with a relatively low comb ending in a very substantially sized full black rubber buttpad. The slim neck is sculpted so both the palm and fingers of the shooting hand can easily wrap comfortably around the steep drop down pistol grip. The lengthy yet slim forend has a rounded underside and features lengthy panels of impregnated grip aids. Rather than being what we’d term traditional style checkering or stippling, the inner area of these panels (also seen at the grip) has, unusually, been given a leatherette finish. But fear not, as all combine to make the stock look very stylish and equally practical, as the more you handle the rifle the more you feel the benefits of the overall design. Reason being that it feels very solid and secure in the hold, balances well and, although pushing the tape to a full 44.5 inches in overall length, it comes quickly and easily up to the shoulder.
Incidentally, while the Mk II omits open sights in favour of the TAC-looking full-length barrel shroud like many other Crosman air rifles, the Phantom Mk II comes bundled with a scope and mounts. In this instance you get a Center Point 3-9x40AO optic and a sturdy one-piece mount, plus all Allen keys to facilitate fitting. So this package comes ready to shoot straight from the box, which many airgunners will find appealing. In fact the quality of the ¼ inch MOA open turret design scope and fixtures far exceeded my expectations, so like the rifle itself you could consider this a step upwards as well.
Strange But True
Story continues below....
Due to the MkII having ‘Nitro Piston’ etched onto the side of the breechblock, as mentioned previously, I initially presumed this to be a gas-ram powered air rifle. Indeed even on cocking and first shooting the rifle, both the cocking stroke and firing cycle displayed the super-smooth action characteristic of a gas-ram. However, imagine my surprise on discussion with Crosman importers A.S.I Ltd when I was informed that the ‘NP’ stamp is a manufacturer error and in actuality the rifle uses a traditional spring and piston power plant! This makes the rifle even more impressive and, dare I say, unique, as if I hadn’t been told this I would have believed this was a gasram such is the ‘feel’ of the vibration-free firing cycle.
Not only is the cocking stroke very smooth, it’s virtually effortless due to the fact that the lengthy barrel shroud assembly measures 18.75 inches, so affords a good level of leverage. The lack of effort needed to cock the rifle is also aided by an articulated cocking linkage which also results in there not being an excessive amount of material ‘cut out’ below the forend of the stock, so solidity and strength of the ‘handle’ isn’t in the least compromised.
The barrel locks solidly in the open position for direct pellet loading, and thanks to a large wedge shape détente lock and generously sized breech seal when returned to the original closed position, it locks back up very securely with no worries that you have anything less than a very air tight seal.
After setting a 25 yard zero for the .22 calibre test rifle I really began to realise just how effective the bull barrel shroud is at taming muzzle report. It’s able to do this as the shroud’s end cap that screws onto the barrel itself uses strategically placed internal vent holes to direct expelled air upon discharge back down the inside of the shroud – hence its effectiveness. Also, due to the super-smooth firing cycle, the rifle is also very low in recoil for such a full-power springer.
The two-stage adjustable trigger unit has a neat-looking metal blade with the manual safety being positioned forward of this while both sit protected within an ABS trigger guard – a familiar configuration that is seen on many springers of this type. There is a small level of adjustment to help combat the rather lengthy first stage of pull. Some may consider this a downside, but once used to this particular nuance of the release I soon began making ragged one inch groupings at my set zero.
Although the rifle only weighs a tad over 8lbs scoped up, in my opinion this is definitely an adult-oriented sporter. Not only due to the lengthy overall proportions but the reach to pull measures 14.5 inches which some juniors and smaller build shooters might find a bit of a stretch.
Overall I found the Crosman Phantom MkII to be a wellbuilt, very smooth-operating, accurate and well-balanced full-power springer. Also, taking into consideration the quality of the hardware it comes bundled with, it’s also a stylish, ready-togo, practical and very capable air rifle, suitable for medium range hunting situations

I purchased my phantom MK11 it was explain to me tat Nitro piston stamped on the breach was an error. But that was ok i’d shoot one at my club and liked it. When it seemed to loose power I thought it either the spring or the piston seal. On stripping it down to my amazement I found it was a gas ram it has the nitro piston. Now I know the difference between a spring and a piston, the trouble was the seal. The only reason I’m sending this comment is everybody I’ve spoked to no one seem’s to know the answer. I thought it may pre owned I contacted the store and was it not it was new still in the box. I can’t fine a review on thr Crosman phtomom MK11 with a nitro piston power plant. Any help would be nice.

I don’t know where this person got his phantom mk2 air rifle from, but I have brought one and it is indeed a nitro gas air ram system and to make sure I had my local gunshot take it apart to confirm this. And it is a superb air rifle to shoot.

The editor looks at the latest version of Crosman’s popular break-barrel

Many people coming into the grand sport of airgunning need a rifle that’s good and solid, yet simple to own and operate. Shop owners have told me that £200 is the magic number that people often set as a budget, and the manufacturers know it. Lots of them have a ‘bundle’ that includes the rifle, scope and mounts that retail exactly at that price and it’s become very competitive between them, which is good for us. Crosman has exactly that and it seems they’ve added some high-quality extras to make their offering that much more appealing. The Phantom II is a classic break-barrel springer at its heart. It wears an ambidextrous synthetic stock that is tough and unaffected by moisture or mud, and its long, sporting lines are enhanced by a full-length barrel shroud/silencer, adding to the good looks and cutting muzzle noise somewhat.
The scope they chose for the outfit is their own brand, Center Point 3-9 x 40, that has a mil-dot-style reticle, which is a nice touch. Windage and elevation adjusters are the exposed kind that are easy to turn, even with gloved hands, although it must be noted that they have no locking mechanism. What separates this scope from many in this class is an objective-mounted parallax adjuster, which is superb. Most scopes in this class do not feature this vital facility, and it makes a huge difference to the clarity of your view and the elimination of parallax error, a major source of inaccuracy. Crosman really deserves all the praise it gets for offering such a scope at this price. Another excellent feature is that it sits in a one-piece mount that’s stronger and more reliable than two-piece mounts, on a recoiling gun. Again, credit is due.
The firing cycle is impressive, being smooth and quiet, telling us that the spring guides are doing their job well, as is the silencer. Over the chronograph, the Phantom delivered a healthy 11.3ft.lbs. with the Air Arms Field Diablo, my standard test pellet, which also displayed good accuracy. At 25 yards, I was getting 1” groups, only spoilt now and then by the odd flyer taking it out to an inch and a half now and then. This level of accuracy is right at the top for guns like this, showing that Crosman knew what they were doing when they built this package. The Phantom feels good and solid in your hands, has a very high specification, and the performance to back that up, so in my eyes it’s one of the best rifles in this class.

What's your budget, and what's your friend selling you the Remington for? I ask because: A, there may be better choices than those listed by you, and still within your budget; and B, not that I think any one is better than the other, but it sounds like you can at least try the Remington? If you enjoy shooting this rifle, it looks to be in good condition, and the owner is offering the right deal...maybe go with what you can actually put your hands on before buying.

Well, I can't seem to post a link, so Google "Airgun Depot">Refurbished Airguns>Diana 34P. Now, if you want a Chinese rifle to take apart and learn with, go for it. I did and it was a good learning experience. But if you just want a nice, accurate rifle that's built to last get the 34 and don't look back. Just my $.02. Scotty

Spirited performer
It’s been dubbed the Pest Buster – and Crosman’s UK importers ASI couldn’t have come up with a better name for the Phantom break-barrel that’s mounted with a Center Point 4×32 scope.
More importantly, however, at its suggested all-in retail price of just £190, the Pest Buster represents one of the ever-growing crop of highly-affordable, field-ready hunting combos.
While Crosman’s a US giant, the Phantom is a springer made for them in China – and typical of today’s Far East offerings, it leaves little to be desired.
Though a ‘kit’ scope, the 4×32 that comes with the Pest Buster is more than adequate and sports a decent reticle
Gone are the days when you accepted a few shortfalls in the stock and metal finishes as part and parcel of the budget price that came with Oriental hardware.
Now, most airguns out of China carry both a pleasant price tag and finish – and the Phantom’s metalwork exudes a standard of polish and blueing that will, I’m sure, have the European gunmakers sitting up and taking notice.
As with so many of the affordable-end springers, the Phantom comes dressed in black synthetic. I know both the colour and material aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but contrary to what they were saying just five years ago, the gun shops tell me it’s not a problem to most of their customers looking around this price point.
And kudos to Crosman for making the most of the extra benefits synthetic stocks offer – they’ve certainly come up with a unique-looking, highly practical handle. Incorporated into the solid moulding is an integral trigger guard and raised dots on the grip and forend which look good and feel even better to the touch, aiding grip as well as being comfortable to hold.
Thumbwheels allow for easy adjustment of the rearsight
The forestock itself is a very unique shape – curvy and full length with a palm-filling, bulbous design at the end. Odd, yes… but it’s very ergonomic and makes for a good hold from plenty of shooting stances.
Convention has been stuck to at the butt, with a well raised – though thin – comb to suit both right- and left-hookers.
A ridged, hard-rubber pad caps it off and while there are a few moulding marks upon close inspection, any criticism of the stock finish would be nit-picking. Especially given that the Pest Buster throws a telly into the asking price!
It’s a 4×32 ‘kit’ scope from Center Point – more than adequate for the 25- to 30-yard hunting distances you should be limiting yourself to with a springer. Actually, it’s a very well specced, Nitrogen-filled 25mm optic.
The 1/4MOA coin-adjusted turrets sit under screw-off dust caps, and the lenses are protected by transparent covers on elastic. The two-piece mounts are double-screw for extra clamping capacity, and there’s even an arrestor pin that locates into a hole on the Phantom’s receiver to firmly anchor the Center Point in place and negate the possibility of scope creep.
But this scope’s piece de resistance has to be its reticle. It has three, equidistant notches placed on each of the fine crosshair, and there are thick bars in the left, right and lower quadrants. While there is some colour fringing on the sight picture at the edges, the image quality is certainly more than capable of rendering a clear aiming mark once the ocular lens has been focused to your eyes.
Raised dots improve grip – and thanks to an articulated cocking linkage, there’s no unsightly slot under the forend
I’m glad to see that as well as the telly option, you can shoot the rifle with open sights – and those supplied are of the fibre-optic kind, which are currently very much in fashion for their improved target acquisition properties.
Unusually, the foresight bead is green, while the dots either side of the rearsight’s U-notch are red; it’s more commonly the other way around. The red fibre-optics need plenty of light to ‘glow’ and, personally, I’d be happy with green dots on both front and rear.
The rearsight is adjustable for height and side-to-side POI movement via click-stop thumbwheels and although it’s plastic and looks a little feeble, I didn’t have any performance issues during my test.
The only thing I noticed was that if you align the red and green dots of the fibre-optics in a horizontal line, the top line of the foresight post appeared to be above the top line of the rearsight leaf, which flies very much in the face of convention!
Oddly, the fibre-optic foresight bead is green, and the rear dots are red
However, as the dots are by far the most visible – and really do speed things up when you’re bringing the gun on to aim – forget convention… and just line up the dots!
The barrel is well rifled, though unchoked at the muzzle, and the breech pivots around a bolt rather than a pin – always good to see as it allows for any wear to be taken up during the lifetime of the gun. The sprung-plunger lock-up is well engineered and sturdy.
The breech proper was devoid of any form of chamfer or lead-in taper. Consequently, I found it tough to seat pellets flush with the breech face. I think it’s something that Crosman should look at improving as breech entry plays an important role in a spring-powered airgun’s shot-to-shot capability.
That all said, I had few worries on the accuracy front with my .22 model. Crosman Domed seemed the logical choice of pellet to start with… and I didn’t bother shooting any other types as I was more than pleased with the Phantom’s downrange performance. If a hunting gun’s range is limited to that which you can group all your shots inside a 35mm circle, then this Pest Buster will do the business at extreme ranges. Indeed, I’d be happy to splash out extra on buying a higher-mag scope for such occasions.
Like accuracy, the Crosman’s power is right where you want it to be for field operations, with the Premiers clocking up a whisker under the 12ft/lb legal limit over my Skan chrono.
The Phantom’s power is where you would expect it to be, just shy of 12 ft/lb with Crosman Domed pellets
For the record, you can see how it shot with lighter ThUnderBOLT pellets (which pushed velocities well over 700fps!) and heavier H&N Field Target in the graph above.
In the shoulder, the Phantom feels surprisingly well balanced considering it’s a relatively long rifle. While its stock is a solid composite, it doesn’t feel weighty and the grip positions afforded by that uniquely-shaped forend provide good support. I was pleased to see an articulated cocking linkage, too; this keeps the slot on the underside of the forend short and unobtrusive. Given its near legal-limit power, cocking effort is more than manageable.
What particularly impressed me about this rifle was its firing cycle. Its action time – the milliseconds that elapse between the trigger slipping the sears and the pellet exiting the muzzle – is neither slow nor aggressive. In fact, I’d liken it to a gas-ram – short and smooth. It’s that impressive, I even had to check this model did have a mainspring in it, and not Crosman’s NPSS system!
The trigger is a little tricky owing to its slightly long stretch
Were it not for the slightly long stretch to the trigger – both in terms of pull length and finger reach – I’d have rated this rifle in my top 10 ‘nicest to shoot’ springers of all time. But unless you’ve got a super-long index digit, you’re going to have to really concentrate on slipping the trigger.
It’s not heavy – and the small amount of creep it has is ‘predictable’. But while the length of first stage was very small, its let-off weight is very shooter-friendly. And it can be adjusted if you’re not happy with the factory setting. But it really is a stretch to the ridged, slightly curved blade – and, I’m afraid, I had to work hard at achieving this rifle’s obvious accuracy potential.
There’s a manual ‘in guard’ safety catch – pulled back to engage, and pushed forward to disengage. Though these types of safety are not my favourite, it’s very positive should you ever want to use it. For added safety, the Phantom comes with an anti-beartrap, which means that once you’ve cocked the barrel, the trigger’s rendered inoperable and the rifle can’t be decocked; you need to fire off the shot.
Breech entry could be improved in this Crosman, which lacks a chamfer
In an age where we’re spoiled for choice at the affordable end of the market, the Phantom is strong competition for anything else out there and is one of the top-end performers in its class, for sure.
Well finished and more than capable of doing the business downrange, anyone wanting a rifle for pest control – whether on an occasional or more regular basis – will not be disappointed if they splash their readies in the direction of this impressive combo.

If you’re looking for one of the best break barrel air rifles with scope , then you’ll want to look closely at our first option. Built by Crosman, the Diamondback SBD is also now available in an NP Elite model. And it’s one of our top choices for beginners for a few reasons.
How big is your wallet?
Don’t worry; we aren’t thinking of mugging you. However, with so many air rifles now costing over a grand, it’s a valid question. However, the Diamondback SBD NP Elite won’t drain your bank account. It’s definately not the cheapest model on our list, but it’s one of the best air rifles for the price.
Despite its affordability, it’s packed with some wonderful features. One of which is the CenterPoint 4 x 32 scope that’s included with this model. With it, you’ll easily be able to see the pulse of the poor little squirrel before you stop its heart. The scope alone easly makes this one of the best budget air rifles around .
But we also really like the adjustable two-stage CBT (Clean Break Trigger). And that the black synthetic stock can handle any weather that you throw at it, making it a great option for all shooters.
But what about the cocking mechanism?
This Diamondback employees a Nitro Piston Elite, and this has some rather major benefits. Firstly, gas pistons offer a smoother cock compared with metal mainsprings. Plus, there is also no spring fatigue to worry about if you happen to leave it cocked for many hours.
And if all of this isn’t enough to sell you, there is also a Gold Level SBD. This sound suppression system makes this one of the quietest air rifles we’ve fired.
Crosman Diamondback SBD NP Elite Air Rifle Features:
- Caliber: .22
- Velocity: Up to 1100 FPS
- Action: Break barrel
- Barrel Style: Rifled
- Rail: 11mm dovetail
- Safety: Manual
- Loudness: 2-Low-Medium
- Mechanism: Gas

- Clean Break Trigger.
- SBD sound suppression system.
- Includes CenterPoint 4 x 32 scope.
- All-weather synthetic stock.
- Backed by a 5-Year Limited Warranty.
- Synthetic stocks aren’t to everyone’s liking.
One of the best Crosman air guns for under $100 is the Vantage NP. The price alone makes it a great option for beginners, but that’s not our favorite aspect of this air rifle.
Sometimes simplicity is the best option…
We think that this must have been what Crosman had in mind when they designed the Vantage NP. It features an authentic wood stock and a machined receiver. This gives it a solid, reliable feel.
There is an adjustable 2-stage trigger, which is an unexpected feature on an air rifle at this price point. We found it to be both smooth and reliable. It’s also highly accurate, which will help new shooters get addicted rather quickly.
Have you ever cocked a break barrel?
The Vantage NP features a gas piston break barrel design. This makes things straight forward, and it also means that you’ll be able to fire shot after shot without the drop in pressure PCP air rifles provide.
The rubber butt pad helps keep you shooting longer, and the ambidextrous stock means that you can easily pass the rifle around. This makes it ideal for teaching your kids to shoot. Plus, there are fiber optic sights to help you get the perfect shot every time .
Crosman Vantage NP Air Rifle Features:
- Velocity: Up to 950 FPS
- Loudness: 3-Medium
- Mechanism: Gas-piston

- Gas piston break barrel.
- Ambidextrous stock.
- Fiber optic sights.
- Rubber buttpad.
- Two-stage adjustable trigger.
- 5-Year Limited Warranty.
- The trigger has a rather long pull .
With the Optimus Scope Combo Air Rifle , you get access to a much better starter kit for just a bit more money. Crosman really outdid themselves with this air rifle and scrape combo kit. In fact, we think this might be the best air rifle with scope in its price range .
How good is your vision?
With the CenterPoint Optics 4x32mm precision scope included with this combo, it won’t matter so much. While it’s certainly not a high-quality hunting scope, we were pleasantly surprised in the optics. You get a 4x magnification on a 32mm optical lens.
If you’re not a fan of the scope, you’ll be happy to know that this rifle also features a micro-adjustable rear sight. This plus the fiber optic front sight helps you hit your target with or without using the scope.
But that’s not all…
To add to the overall look and feel of the air rifle, there is a beautiful ambidextrous hardwood stock. We like the break barrel design and the fact that it requires a relatively light cocking force. The two-stage adjustable trigger is also a great feature.
But the aspect we like the most about this model is the punch. The Optimus will throw projectiles at the target at an astounding 1200 feet per second. This makes it one of the best air rifles for hunting small game in our review.
Crosman Optimus Air Rifle Features:
- Caliber: .177, .22
- Velocity: Up to 1200 FPS
- Mechanism: Spring-piston

- Powerful for the price.
- Ambidextrous wood stock.
- 2-Stage adjustable trigger.
- Includes 4 x 32 CenterPoint Optics scope.
- Not the best scope for long-distance shooting.
- Has a rather strong recoil.
And now for something completely different, the next item in our review is one of the best tactical airguns under $200. You’ll be able to tell from first glance that the DPMS SBR is a completely different beast. We bet that you’ll want one for a number of reasons.
Are you looking for a fully automatic BB air rifle?
We didn’t know we needed one of these until we saw one. And yes, we said need, not want. This is one of the coolest BB guns around, and not just because of the way it looks.
It features a tactical short barrel, which makes it easy to wield when on the go. This makes it ideal for airsoft war games. Even better, though, is the adjustable six-position stock butt and AR compatible pistol grip. Together these provide you with ultimate control, which will help with your target acquisition.
We’re still not at the best part…
The DPMS SBR comes with a Quad Rail forearm. This makes it quick and easy to mount accessories. There is also a cool looking muzzle end cap, and flip-up back up iron sights .
The two 12-gram CO2 cartridges provide you with continuous shooting, and we really like the blowback bolt-action. However, it’s the fully automatic/semi-automatic capabilities that really make this baby stand out.
Plus…
There’s a 25rd magazine, and a BB speedloader included as well. What more could you possibly want in an airsoft BB gun? Nothing is the answer.
Crosman DPMS SBR Air Rifle Features:
- Caliber: .177
- Velocity: Up to 430 FPS
- Action: Semi-automatic/Full-automatic
- Barrel Style: Smooth bore
- Rail: Weaver mounts
- Mechanism: CO2

- Quad Rail accessory mount.
- Blowback bolt-action.
- 25rd magazine.
- Two 12-gram CO2 cartridges.
- Includes BB Speed-loader.
- 1-Year Limited Warranty.
- We wish the CO2 tanks were a bit larger.
If you really want to look like Rambo, but your mom won’t let you buy a real firearm, then you might like this next option. The M4-177 from Crosman looks like the real deal right down to the included scope. It’s a great option for airsoft war games. Just be careful not to stress your neighbors out by carrying it around the front yard yelling, “To survive a war, you gotta become war”, or anything similar.
Were you born for war?
We can’t imagine the other side being able to keep from raising the white flag when they see you march onto the airsoft field with the M4-177. It’s a multi-pump pneumatic air gun that shoots either BBs or pellets .
It features a 350-rd BB reservoir and adjustable sights. You also get a bolt-action 18 round BB magazine, or five round pellet magazine.
But wait, there’s more…
There is also a Weaver/Picatinny optics rails above the receiver. This holds the 3 x 32 CenterPoint Optics scope. Now, you’ll need to remove the sights to use the scope, but that’s easy enough to do.
Crosman M4-177 Scope Combo Air Rifle Features:
- Velocity: Up to 660 FPS
- Action: Bolt-action
- Rail: Weaver/Picatinny
- Mechanism: Multi-pump pneumatic

- Includes a 3 x 32 CenterPoint Optics scope.
- 18-rd BB magazine.
- Looks really badass.
- It’s not the most accurate air gun around.
One of the best single shot pellet air rifles for under $100 is also available from Crosman. Known as the Legacy 1000, this beauty is designed for backyard plinking and target practice. We also think it’s a great option for teaching new shooters about gun safety.
We all need to start somewhere…
And when it comes to shooting, most of us start with an air rifle. It’s a great way to learn how to judge target distances, as well as learn firearm safety. With the Legacy 1000, this is especially important for one key reason.
The velocity used to throw out the projectiles is determined by your pumping frenzy. The more you pump, the further your shot will fly. Just remember not to over pump, or you might damage things.
How many shots does it hold?
This is one of the best multi pump air rifles for shooting both BBs and .177 caliber pellets. The BB reservoir holds up to 200 shots, and the spring-fed magazine will hold 18 BBs. This means you’ll be able to fire shot after shot before needing to reload.
We also appreciate the all-weather synthetic stock. There is even an adjustable rear sight and a fiber optic front sight. Plus, it’s made in America, which is always something we can get behind.
Did we mention it’s also one of the least expensive air guns available?
Considering all the above, it’s hard not to call this the best budget air gun. But, we’ll leave that up to you as our list isn’t finished yet…
Crosman Legacy 1000 Air Rifle Features:
- Velocity: Up to 1000 FPS

- Multi-pump pneumatic.
- Shoots steel BBs or .177-cal. pellets.
- Fiber optic front sight.
- Rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation.
- Built in America.
- Some shooters won’t like the variable pump action .
Another great option for those that want to play army is the Bushmaster MPW. This is easily one of the best AR platform air guns we’ve ever seen. In fact, we expect this will become a favorite for airsoft war games.
And both kids and fully grown kids will love playing with this air rifle…
Even though mom always said not to play with guns. Maybe that’s why we like this one so much. It is, after all, designed for games.
The Bushmaster MPW futures a mock suppressor, so don’t expect it to actually be quiet. Instead, you should expect a tactical multi-purpose airsoft weapon . We really like the AR-compatible buffer tube and pistol grip. It makes it feel like the real thing, even if you are only shooting BBs.
Do your local ‘Rules of War’ include full automatic fire?
We do hope so because otherwise, this bad boy is being wasted. You could switch it into semi-auto action, but that’s just not as much fun. Especially considering the 25 round, drop-free magazine.
There are also two 12-gram CO2 cartridges that will keep you firing until the enemy has surrendered. We also found the 6-position adjustable stock rather comfortable. All in all, it’s one of the most fun airsoft guns we’ve ever used.
Crosman Bushmaster MPW Air Rifle Features:

- Full and semi-auto action.
- Quad rail forearm for mounting accessories
- 6-position adjustable stock.
- 25-round, drop-free magazine.
- In automatic mode, it almost fires too many rounds per minute.
Just to throw you for a loop, the last item on our list of Crosman air guns isn’t a rifle. Instead, this is a BB pistol. After all, if you’re going into war (even airsoft war), you should always have a backup firearm.
What good are BB pistols compared to rifles?
Well, for one thing, the PFAM98B Blowback BB Pistol is perfect for practicing handgun shooting skills. We like this as we should all learn to shoot rifles and pistols in the safest way possible. Though honestly, we really just want one for fun.
Airsoft war games can occasionally get a bit out of hand. Luckily, it’s highly unlikely anyone will get properly injured with one of these. On the other hand, it is likely that you’ll need one if your air rifle jams. Or, if you fire too many BBs too fast.
Does it feel like a real firearm?
It’s pretty close in our book. This model features a full metal frame and slide, which offer a realistic feel in the hand. It also has a 20 round BB magazine, and can also fire .177 caliber pellets.
Considering all of this, we think this is one of the best air pistols for the price. It’s also one of the quietest options on our list. This makes target practice in the backyard an activity the neighbors won’t dread.
Crosman PFAM9B BB Pistol Features:
- Velocity: Up to 400 FPS
- Action: Full-auto
- Safety: None
- Loudness: 1-Low

- 12-gram CO2 cartridge.
- Blowback action.
- 20-rd BB magazine.
- Full metal frame and slide.
- Not as accurate as a rifle.
- Does occasionally jam.
If so, check out our reviews of the Best Benjamin Marauder Air Rifle , the Best Airforce Texan Airguns, the Best Full Auto BB Guns , the Best Airforce Texas SS Airguns, the Best Break Barrel Air Rifles , and the Best Air Rifle for Squirrel Hunting currently available.
That completes our list of reviews of Crosman air rifles. And hopefully, one of these options has jumped out as being the perfect choice for you. There is certainly something for everyone, no matter your style or budget.
If you still can’t make up your mind, we would recommend the…
Crosman DPMS SBR
It’s just too much fun to not buy one. In fact, we’d advise that you purchase two because your friends will constantly be wanting to borrow yours.
Happy and safe shooting.

Ready to go Like many other Crosman air rifles, the Phantom Mk II comes bundled with a scope and mounts. In this instance, you get a Center Point 3 - 9 x 40AO and a sturdy one-piece mount plus all Allen keys for mounting and on-rifle adjustment.
Twin Test: Walther Century GT and Crosman Phantom MkII - Airgun Magazine Synthetically stocked break-barrel rifle/scope combos are very much in vogue, so Nigel Allen takes two of the newest arrivals into the fields - Walther's Century GT and Crosman's Phantom MkII...
Product Details. The Crosman® Phantom is a powerful air rifle with an innovative body style, and a spring piston, break-barrel action.
