The Ghost Immobiliser – what you need to know

The Ghost 2 Immobiliser  is a security device that can be installed in your vehicle discreetly, (without causing any damage to the vehicle) which works by preventing your engine to start unless certain buttons within your car are pressed in a specific sequence. Similar to a password on your phone, but instead using the buttons in your car.

The Ghost 2 Immobiliser  serves as a discreet method of security as the ‘password’ of buttons you press is only known to you, and if your car is ever broken into thieves will not be aware of the sequence needed to unlock your vehicle. As a result, thieves will not be able to start the car at all, deterring them further so they leave.

How does it work?

They work by preventing your engine from working unless an additional, unique pin number or code sequence is entered alongside your key fob. This helps to prevent thieves from driving away with your vehicle, which may encourage them to leave it alone altogether.

Your chosen pin code can be entered by pressing a pattern of existing electronic buttons on your steering wheel, in an app, on the door panel or on the central console. Because the device is invisible, you have the added benefit of stealth, which can prevent anyone from trying to tamper with it, and the device only takes seconds to use.

Can I Install a ghost immobiliser myself?

No, a car fitted with a ghost immobiliser can not be stolen . Even if a thief makes their way inside your car with the key, without the sequence pin they will not be able to start the car. This will deter them even further.

Does a Ghost Immobiliser void warranty?

As it stands, the rules may vary depending on your manufacturer and their warranty stipulations. However, generally, if the vehicle’s electrical system fails as a result of the aftermarket security being installed , it may void the warranty.

It is always best to read your user manual or get in contact with a representative of your car’s manufacturer who will be able to tell you the right information you need before purchasing any sort of aftermarket security.

Do Ghost Immobilisers affect my insurance?

In regard to insurance , again it is subject to the stipulations of your insurer, however in some cases having aftermarket security may reduce your insurance premiums as it makes your vehicle less likely to be stolen, especially if you are using a Ghost Immobiliser.

Are Ghost Immobilisers TASSA approved?

TASSA stands for ‘Tracking and aftermarket security systems association’ a legally recognised body that deals with the certification of security & tracking devices installed after the purchase of a vehicle.

Although there are Thatcham approved alternatives , TASSA verified Ghost-II systems include a special vehicle marking system used by insurance companies across Europe linking to the International Security Register . Giving an extra level of security to vehicle owners.

The TASSA website states: ‘The Tracking and Aftermarket Security System Association (TASSA) was formed by aftermarket industry manufacturers and traders who are at the forefront of solutions for vehicle crime prevention.
