Did Snapchat get rid of or remove 'Ghost trails' and will it come back? Here's what we know

Here’s the crux of the article in video form
Snapchat is undeniably the most popular social media platform that enables users to exchange images, videos, and messages that disappear after being viewed.
The platform also has an amalgamation of fun and exciting features that make the app more engaging. Some of them include Bitmoji , Discover tab , Snap Maps , and more.

Moreover, Snapchat+ also offers various subscription features. One of them includes the ‘Ghost Trails’ function that lets users check the location of their friends for the past 24 hours.
Has Snapchat removed the ‘Ghost trails’ feature?
However, some Snapchat users ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) have taken to Twitter to report that the feature has gone missing or is not available to them.

This feature also took care of the privacy of the users as it could only be accessed by fulfilling certain conditions. A user could only view Ghost Trail for friends for whose location access had been enabled on the Snap Map.
The service also wasn’t accessible for those friends who had not enabled location sharing. Moreover, it was an exclusive feature because of its availability in countries only where Snapchat+ is accessible.
And now, to have that taken away might have been quite unfathomable for some users.
Here’s what the support says
Despite how discouraging it may sound, Snapchat Support confirmed that the ‘Ghost trails’ feature has in fact been disabled/removed.

However, they have not stated if the feature will ever be introduced again. Instead Snapchat now lets you share your live location even when you’re not using the app.
Hi there! Ghost Trails are no longer available đ We’re always finding inspiration for new features to make Snapchat more fun for you, so stay tuned! Source
We hope the developers will reintroduce the feature or, even better, offer a substitute for it.
We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when we come across something noteworthy.

What Happened To Ghost Trails On Snapchat
- UPDATED: July 23, 2023
Table of Contents
The Ghost Trails feature on Snapchat was once a popular and exciting way for users to explore their surroundings and discover hidden gems. However, in recent months, many users have noticed that this feature has disappeared from their app. So, what happened to Ghost Trails on Snapchat?
Ghost Trails was introduced by Snapchat as a way to encourage users to explore their surroundings and share their experiences with friends. It allowed users to create a virtual trail of photos and videos that others could follow, creating a unique and interactive way to discover new places.
The feature was particularly popular among travelers and adventure seekers, as it provided a platform to showcase their explorations and inspire others to do the same. Users could create their own trails by taking photos and videos at different locations, and then share them with their friends or make them public for anyone to follow.
Ghost Trails also had a social aspect, as users could see who had followed their trails and interact with them through comments and messages. This created a sense of community and connectedness among users who shared similar interests or were exploring the same areas.
However, despite its initial popularity, Ghost Trails gradually started to lose its appeal. Many users reported that the feature became glitchy and unreliable, with trails not loading properly or disappearing altogether. This made it frustrating for users who wanted to explore new trails or revisit ones they had previously enjoyed.
In addition, Snapchat faced criticism for the lack of moderation on Ghost Trails. Some users took advantage of the feature to create inappropriate or offensive trails, which tarnished the overall experience for others. This led to concerns about the safety and appropriateness of the content being shared on the platform.
As a result, Snapchat made the decision to remove Ghost Trails from the app. In a statement, the company acknowledged the issues users had been facing and expressed their commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all users. They stated that they were working on improving the feature and would reintroduce it once they were confident in its reliability and moderation.
Since the removal of Ghost Trails, Snapchat has focused on enhancing other features of the app, such as Stories and Discover. These features allow users to share their experiences in a more curated and controlled manner, while still providing opportunities for exploration and discovery.
Snapchat has also introduced new features, such as Snap Map, which allows users to see where their friends are and discover popular events and locations nearby. While not a direct replacement for Ghost Trails, Snap Map offers a similar sense of exploration and discovery, albeit in a different format.
Despite the disappearance of Ghost Trails, many users still reminisce about the fun and excitement it brought to their Snapchat experience. Some have even started campaigns and petitions to bring back the feature, highlighting its unique and engaging nature.
In conclusion, Ghost Trails on Snapchat was once a popular and exciting feature that allowed users to explore their surroundings and share their experiences with others. However, due to technical issues and concerns about moderation, Snapchat made the decision to remove the feature from the app. While users may miss the interactive and community-driven nature of Ghost Trails, Snapchat continues to innovate and provide new ways for users to explore and discover their surroundings.

Snapchat ghost mode: what it means & how to enable it.
Snapchat allows users to share their location with people around the world on the Snap Map, but there's a way to turn that off using Ghost Mode.
- Snapchat offers a privacy feature called Ghost Mode that hides your location from others, ensuring your presence on the Snap Map is visible only to you.
- To enable Ghost Mode, swipe right twice from the camera screen to access Snap Map, tap the gear icon, and turn Ghost Mode on. You can also choose a timer to determine how long you stay off the grid.
- In addition to Ghost Mode, there are other privacy settings available on Snap Map, such as sharing your location with all friends, excluding specific friends, or choosing only specific friends to see your location.
Snapchat offers a privacy feature called Ghost Mode, enabling users to hide their location from others. Snap Map was introduced in 2017 as a means to share Snaps worldwide through "Our Story." An additional function of this feature allows users to share their location with friends in real time when using the app. Their Bitmoji appears on Snap Map , allowing others to view their Snaps, stories, friends, and places – whatever is live and available at that given time.
While Snap Map offers creative ways for friends to connect and communicate, there are risks present in location sharing if a user is unaware of their privacy settings. For instance, if a user has their settings set to share with everyone, then their location is marked on the Snap Map to anyone who comes across their name, Bitmoji, story etc. This could be a friend, a friend of a friend, or a complete stranger. Luckily, Snapchat recognized this potential threat from the get-go, and offers users several privacy options to keep their locations as private as they like, the most elusive being Ghost Mode.

How To Enable Ghost Mode For Extra Privacy
Snapchat users may be uncomfortable at the thought of their exact location being shared worldwide, and for all to see at this very moment. However, there's a quick and easy way to ghost everyone for those who value their privacy (or at the very least, the right to control it). Ghost Mode is a full privacy mode that makes your presence on the Snap Map visible to you alone. No one else can see where you are, not even your Snapchat friends.
To enable this feature, swipe right twice from the camera screen to Snap Map. Next, tap the gear icon in the top right corner to open Settings. Lastly, turn Ghost Mode on. When you choose to enable Ghost Mode, you'll notice that a window pops up with various timer options, including three hours, 24 hours, or until turned off. The timer allows you to choose how long you want to stay off the grid, whether it's just to lay low for a few hours or vanish for the foreseeable future.
There are more relaxed privacy settings also available beneath Ghost Mode in the Snap Map settings window. You can choose to share your location with all of your Snapchat friends – this includes any additional friends added in the future, but not people who have added you as a friend that you haven't added back. Another option available is to share with friends, but with exceptions. In this mode, you can choose specific Snapchat friends to exclude from seeing your location. The last option is to choose specific friends. In this mode, only the friends you explicitly choose will be able to view your location. As a result, there are plenty of ways to ensure Snapchat only reveals the information you're comfortable sharing.
Hide Your Live Location On Snapchat
While Ghost Mode prevents friends on Snapchat from seeing your location on Snap Map, there's also a Live Location feature that shares your live location with select friends. Even if Ghost Mode is enabled, friends you've selected to share your live location with can still see you on Snap Map. If you want to disable this, open Snap Map and tap the Settings icon in the top right corner. Scroll down to ' My live location ' and turn on the toggle next to ' Hide my live location .'
Doing this will turn off your live location for all friends. If you're currently sharing their live location with a specific Snapchat friend, you can also tap ' Stop ' next to their name to stop sharing. If Ghost Mode isn't enabled, and you turn off live location sharing, Snapchat says friends you've shared your location with will be able to see your Last Active Location on Snap Map.

In contrast to Ghost Trails, the Live Location feature is available to all Snapchat users, regardless of whether they have a Snapchat Plus subscription or not.
The Live-Location-Sharing feature enables you to notify your loved ones about your location. Basically, it gives you the freedom to share your whereabouts with the people you trust the most.
Snapchatters can use the live location-sharing feature like a buddy system to monitor each otherâs locations for safety.
Snapchatâs current functionality allows viewing of a userâs recent location, with the stipulation that it only updates your approximate location when you open the app.
Once activated, this feature broadcasts continuous updates of the userâs position on a map that their selected contacts can view for a specified period of time.
Furthermore:
For your privacy and control over location sharing, Snapchat lets you manage its live location feature. This empowers you to decide how often friends and family can monitor you.
You can stop sharing your current location with friends without alerting them. This ensures that only selected friends who are fellow app users and have your permission can track your movements.
If, even after reading this, you are still uncertain about the feature, then:
Letâs walk you through the process step by step on how to use Snapchatâs live location feature to share, update, and stop your live location sharingâ
To get started with Live Location Sharing, follow these steps:
- Open Snapchat and go to the â Chat section .â
- Then, tap on a friendâs/ family memberâs â Bitmoji avatar â to navigate to their profile.

- After that, choose how long you want to share your Live Location with that friend or family member. You have options such as;
- â Always â
- â 8 hours â or

However, while doing so, keep in mind that when you enable the Live Location option, your device will collect data even if Snapchat is not on.

Snapchat makes it easy to change your location and update your live location. Follow these steps to update your live location on Snapchatâ
- Open the â Snapchat app â on your device and â log in â to your Snapchat account.

- Now, your Bitmoji or avatar should appear on the Snap Map based on your current location but to change your location, you can either:
- Change your â Physical Location â: Your Bitmoji will automatically update if you move to a new location.
- Tap the â Update Live Location â button at the bottom of the screen: This will refresh and update your Snap Map location without you having to physically move it.
- When you update your location, also choose the â duration â for how long you want to share your live location.
- Next, tap â Continue â or â Confirm â to finally update your live-location.
- Lastly, set â who can see your location â or â skip â if not prompted.
Once all this is done, youâll be able to see your Bitmojiâs updated location on your friendsâ Snap Maps.
The sharing of your location can be turned off by following the given steps:
- Go to the â Profile of the friend â that you want to stop sharing your Live Location with.

That is all! While Ghost Trails on Snapchat was previously a well-loved feature that added a distinctive trail or shadow to a userâs movement within a Snap, itâs no longer available.
However, Snapchat has continued to develop, introduce changes, and provide updates to its features, like the Snapchat Group , over the years to engage its user base.
So, it replaces the Ghost Trials on Snapchat with a Live-Location-Sharing feature that enables users to share their real-time geolocation with selected friends.

CITY OF MOSCOW FAYETTE COUNTY Moscow, Tennessee
Moscow TN is located on Hwy 57, just east of Rossville, with Collierville and Memphis just 30 miles to the west. One of the oldest town in Fayette County, Moscow dates its beginning back to 1827, when Daniel Head, owner of the land where Moscow stands, transferred it to five men. These five men formed the Town Company of Moscow, taking advantage of its location between the Wolf River main stream and the North Fork of the Wolf River to create an excellent trading center for southern Fayette County farmers. Before its settlement by pioneers, Moscow was a hunting and camping ground for indigenous Native American populations.
Several restaurants welcome travelers with home cooking, some of the best catfish, and southern delights to be found in the area.
The Wolf River provides a natural, unspoiled wilderness area for outdoor lovers. It flows north from Mississippi through Fayette and Shelby Counties toward the Mississippi River. The Ghost River section of the river is particularly unique. It is one of the most beautiful, varied and challenging wetland canoe trails in the country. The entire width of southern Fayette County (26 miles) is traversed by the river’s flood plain. The Wolf eventually meanders more than 80 miles making its confluence with the Mississippi River right in the heart of metropolitan Memphis.
A prime hunting ground for whitetail deer, raccoon, squirrel, rabbit and other small game, Moscow features a number of checking stations where hunters are welcomed. Hunters can also have their harvests processed for food and mounted for trophies.
