creating a boot ghost usb

I have created a ghost image for windows 10 pro which is saved on external hdd, now I need to creat a boot ghosso that I can boot from a usb and browse my image please help with steps

Ghost is a disk cloning and backup tool. In Windows, we can easily create a bootable USB with your cloned system.

• First, prepare the WinPE which we will use to capture the customized image by following the steps on this link .
• Boot into WinPE to capture the computer image you have customized. To do it, check out this link .
• Then, convert WIM file into ISO.
• Lastly, create the Bootable USB with your customized image.

How can I run Ghost from a bootable USB key drive?

I have a laptop that does not have a cd-rom or floppy drive. It is able to boot from USB though.

I have a disk image (ghost) of the disk that I need to restore back onto the laptop. I can't find a way to actually run the Ghost utility from a USB key though.

I believe the ghost.exe should run from within DOS just fine but I can't seem to create a bootable USB key with DOS on it that allows me to run an EXE.

Edit: I managed to find a Ghost utility that I could load from a bootable USB drive. Unfortunately, when I plug in my NTFS external drive (USB), it is not detected.

You can use Hirens Boot CD. Newer versions have a free alternative to Norton Ghost, older versions have the real Norton Ghost (though it is shareware). Directions on their site how to make the "boot cd" a bootable usb stick. Very simple, only takes a few clicks with the right software (all explained in the link).

Newer versions of Hirens Boot CD contain Parted Magic , which has many disk management tools, including Clonezilla , a free alternative to Ghost. All in all I think Parted Magic is the best disk management utility I have ever used. Clonezilla doesn't have a polished GUI like Ghost (maybe it will someday?), but it still gets the job done.

• 2 Since I answered this I have discovered Parted Magic , which is a Linux live environment that offers a lot more than just cloning/restoring discs. The cloning tool it uses ( Clonezilla ) isn't as polished as the Ghost GUI, but it has all the features of Ghost and it gets the job done. To top it all off Parted Magic is included on Hirens Boot CD (v15.2 is the one I am using), so you don't need a separate boot disc just for Parted Magic. –  ubiquibacon Mar 30, 2013 at 17:16

We use Symantec Ghost Boot Wizard here. I am unsure what Symantec program suites it is included in.

I recently bought an ASUS Eee PC 1000H. Lacking an optical drive I wanted to be able to boot my Norton Ghost 9.0 recovery environment from a USB stick. I assume the recent flood of these ultra mobile PC's will cause a renewed interest in this topic. Here are the steps to make a bootable Ghost 9.0 Recovery USB stick or SD card (works just as well with the builtin SD card reader of the ASUS 1000H): Format the stick using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (Google will easily locate this free utility for you). No need to use the "Create a DOS startup disk" functionality in this case, the partition on the memory stick will be marked active for boot anyway. Copy the folder \I386 from the Ghost 9.0 Disk onto the memory stick and rename it to \minint Copy the file \minint\NTDETECT.COM to the root folder of the memory stick Copy the file \minint\SETUPLDR.BIN to the root folder and rename it to NTLDR (without an extension) If necessary install required Windows 2000 drivers. I copied the two files from the Eee support DVD, found in \Drivers\LAN\Atheros\Win2k into the memory stick folders \minint\INF and \minint\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and Ghost activates the builtin LAN adapter of the 1000H. You're done! Boot from the USB stick. As a side note, except for the formatting part, the same procedure can be used to boot Ghost9 from an external harddrive containing an NTFS partition. That allowed me to put the Ghost9 restore environment together with the actual backup itself onto a single 2.5'' drive in a USB enclosure. Now that is what I call a portable backup solution! In contrast to memory sticks, the normal Windows Local storage disk management console (under Administrative Tools) allows to mark partitions on external harddisks as active. So no need for the HP format utility in this case.

1 Format the USB flash drive to NTFS. In order to make a flash drive bootable, it must be properly formatted and equipped with the necessary boot files. Disk formatting can be done through the command prompt in Windows. Do not unplug the flash drive from the computer until formatting is complete. Launch the DiskPart utility by typing "diskpart" into the search box of the Windows start menu and press enter. Then type the command "listdisk" to locate the drive number of your flash drive. Use the commands below to format the drive. Press enter after each command and wait for each step to complete before moving on to the next. Be sure you replace the example number "0" with the number that appeared next to your flash drive in the "listdisk" command. select disk 0 clean create partition primary select partition 0 active format fs=NTFS assign exit 2 Use the bootsect utility in Norton Ghost to make the USB flash drive bootable. In the same command prompt that was used in Step 1, type in the following commands, replacing the drive letter "g" with the correct letter of your flash drive. cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Ghost\Agent" bootsect /nt60 g: When finished, close the command prompt. 3 Copy the contents of the Norton Ghost recovery disk. If the recovery disk is on a CD, insert the CD and copy all of its files to the bootable USB flash drive that you just created. If the recovery disk is an ISO image file, mount the ISO with a virtual drive program and then copy the files from the ISO image to the flash drive. 4 Test the finished Norton Ghost bootable USB flash drive. Restart the computer and enter the BIOS boot options menu. Select your USB flash drive from the list and hit enter. The Norton Ghost recovery environment should now load from your bootable USB flash drive just as it would from a standard recovery CD.

How to Make a Norton Ghost Bootable USB

If you want to boot into the Norton Ghost recovery environment on a modern laptop, you might soon realize that Norton Ghost only allows you to create recovery CD's. Since most recent laptops do not come with a built-in CD or DVD drive, relying instead on the use of removable media, such as Universal Serial Bus flash drives. This can prevent you from accessing one of Norton Ghost's most important features: the ability to boot into a recovery environment. Fortunately, using Windows' built-in disk partitioning tool, it is possible to create your own bootable USB Norton Ghost recovery drive.

Preparing the USB Drive

Press the "Windows" key on your keyboard to open the Start screen and type "cmd".

Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator." This will open the Windows Command Prompt utility.

Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.

Type "diskpart" in the Command Prompt application and press "Enter." This will launch the Windows disk partitioning application.

Enter "list disk" and press the "Return" key on your keyboard. Diskpart will now list all of the storage drives your computer has access to. In the first column, you will see the number that is assigned to each particular drive. Locate the number that has been assigned to the USB flash drive and note it.

Type "select disk X", replacing "X" with the USB drive's number, and press the "Enter" key.

Enter "clean" and press the "Return" key. Please note that, at this point, Windows will format your USB drive and erase whatever is saved on it.

Type the following commands (without quotes), each of them followed by the "Return" key on your keyboard:

"create partition primary" "select partition 1" "active" "format fs=NTFS" "assign" "exit"

The Diskpart application will now close and you will return to the standard Windows command prompt.

Enter the following command and press "Return:"

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Ghost\Agent"

If you have installed Norton Ghost in a different folder on your hard drive, make sure to modify that command to reflect the location of the correct directory.

Type "bootsect /nt60 X:", replacing "X" with the drive letter your computer assigned to the flash drive, and press the "Enter" key. If you do not know which drive letter your computer assigned to the drive, open Windows Explorer and locate the USB drive under "This PC." You now have a formatted USB flash drive that is ready to store the Norton Ghost recovery image. Close the Command Prompt window.

Creating the Image

Launch Norton Ghost, open the "Tools" tab and select "Create Custom Recovery Disk CD."

Click on the "Browse" button and select the CD or DVD drive that contains your Symantec recovery disk CD or the ISO image of that same CD. Click on "Next."

Insert a blank CD in your computer's CD burner. Then select "Burn Symantec Recovery Disk to CD/DVD" and click on "Next" twice.

Edit the Startup options if necessary and click on "Next." Select the appropriate regional settings for your Windows installation and click on "Next" twice.

Select the appropriate license key option and click on "Finish." Norton Ghost will now burn the recovery disk onto the CD.

Copying the Image to the USB Drive

Launch Windows Explorer.

Click on your CD burner's drive in the left-hand pane and select all of its contents in the right-hand pane. Press "CTRL-C" on your keyboard.

Select your USB drive from the left-hand pane of Windows Explorer, right-click anywhere in the right-hand pane and select "Paste." Windows will now copy your recovery disk to the USB key. You will now be able to use that recovery USB drive to boot into the Norton Ghost recovery environment.

2. Chuẩn bị phần mềm hỗ trợ

- Tải USBHDDBOOT - phần mềm giúp bạn tạo boot cực nhanh trên Windows.

Bước 1: Sau khi tải USBHDDBOOT về máy tính, bạn nhấn vào file cài đặt, giao diện phần mềm sẽ hiện ra như minh họa với 2 sự lựa chọn. Bạn nhấn vào Tạo MENU BOOT cho Windows để tạo ghost Windows trực tiếp từ ổ cứng.

Bước 2: Sau đó hiện lên bảng thông báo bắt đầu tiến hành cài đặt. Công đoạn này diễn ra khá nhanh nên bạn chỉ cần nhấn vào Bắt đầu là được.

Một thông báo hoàn thành hiện ra, bạn nhấn vào nút OK để chuyển sang bước kế tiếp.

3. Các bước Ghost Windows

Bước 1: Bạn chỉ cần Khởi động lại máy là được thôi.

Bước 2: Khi tiến hành khởi động lại máy bạn, hệ thống sẽ xuất hiện thêm 1 lựa chọn vào Windows nữa mang tên USB-HDD BOOT mà chúng ta vừa cài đặt. Bạn hãy nhấn vào để tiến hành Ghost Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7 từ ổ cứng.

Bước 3: Tại giao diện làm việc của phần mềm, chọn Khởi động Auto Ghost 11.5 để tiếp tục.

Bước 4: Một giao diện DOS nữa sẽ xuất hiện, hãy nhấn số 1 . Hệ thống sẽ tự động chuyển bạn vào giao diện của phần mềm GHOST.

Bước 5: Giao diện quen thuộc của phần mềm Ghost hiện ra, hãy nhấn OK để bắt đầu sử dụng.

Bước 6: Để Ghost Windows 11, 10, 8.1 ,7 từ ổ cứng bạn chuột phải vào màn hình, lựa chọn Local > Partition > From Image .

Lưu ý: Nếu hệ thống không nhận chuột thì bạn có thể sử dụng các phím điều hướng để di chuyển. Nhấn phím Tab để thay đổi bảng và nhấn Enter để chọn.

Bước 7: Lựa chọn ổ cứng có chứa file Ghost mà bạn đã tải về máy trước đó.

Lưu ý: Không được để file ghost trong ổ bạn cần ghost lại máy.

Bước 8: Tìm đến thư mục chứa file Ghost rồi nhấn Open để mở.

Bước 9: Hệ thống yêu cầu bạn chọn ổ cứng, công đoạn này không có gì đặc biệt nên hãy nhấn OK .

Bước 10: Cuối cùng bạn chọn phân vùng ổ muốn Ghost lại Windows, thông thường là ổ C (tức là ổ thứ 2 trong bài), hãy nhấn vào đó rồi xác nhận OK .

Bước 11: Một thông báo nữa hiện lên cảnh báo cho bạn biết việc này sẽ làm mất hết dữ liệu cũ trên ổ được Ghost, nhấn Yes để tiến hành.

Quá trình này nhanh hay chậm tùy thuộc vào dung lượng file ghost. Lúc này, bạn chỉ việc ngồi đợi thôi.

Bước 12: Đến khi có thông báo Clone completed succcessfully , hãy nhấn vào Reset Computer và để quá trình cài Windows thông qua file Ghost tiếp tục được diễn ra nhé.

II. Các lỗi thường gặp khi GHOST

1. Ghost xong bị mất phân vùng, chỉ còn phân vùng chứa Windows Nguyên nhân có thể do bạn đã chọn nhầm phân vùng khi Ghost hoặc xảy ra lỗi khiến các phân vùng khác bị ẩn đi. - Trường hợp nhầm phân vùng: Bạn chia lại ổ cứng và Ghost lại từ đầu. - Trường hợp phân vùng ẩn: Bạn dùng đĩa hay USB cứu hộ để vào Mini Windows để bật hiển thị là được.

2. Sau khi Ghost chỉ còn một số phân vùng A, B,... mất các phân vùng C, D, E (ổ HDD) Lỗi này thường xảy ra do các phần đề phần cứng. Trước tiên bạn hãy kiểm tra lại xem cáp kết nối đã được gắn chặt hay chưa, ổ cứng còn làm việc không hay BIOS có nhận ổ cứng không? Nếu không, bạn cần mua ổ cứng mới.

3. Lỗi đĩa, usb khởi động không tương thích

Trong quá trình Ghost, nếu màn hình xuất hiện thông báo như "Boot files not found", "Loading failed" hay "A:GHOSTERR. TXT" thì bạn đã gặp lỗi không tương thích phần cứng hoặc đĩa Ghost bị trầy không đọc được dữ liệu. Để khắc phục, bạn cần tạo lại đĩa hoặc USB boot mới.

4. Không tìm thấy file Ghost - Kiểm tra tên file Ghost đã có tên đúng định dạng đuôi *.GHO chưa. - Thư mục chứa file Ghost có chứa dấu tiếng Việt hay không. - File Ghost có đang bị ở trạng thái ẩn không. Nếu file Ghost bị ẩn, bạn mở Windows Explore (phím tắt Windows + E), chọn tab View và bỏ đánh dấu ở mục Hidden items là được.

5. Ghost báo lỗi khi chạy nửa chừng Thông thường Ghost chạy nửa chừng rồi báo lỗi là do nguyên nhân do RAM có dung lượng nhỏ hay RAM đã quá cũng. Đôi khi người dùng Ghost thành công thì trong quá trình sử dụng Windows vẫn thường xuyên xuất hiện màn hình xanh chết chóc. Người dùng hãy thử đổi một thanh RAM khác, hoặc bổ sung thêm RAM cho thiết bị.

6. Phân vùng Ghost bị mờ, không cho Ghost Lỗi này khá hiếm gặp, chủ yếu xảy khi bạn mua ổ cứng mới chưa kịp phân vùng hay kích hoạt ổ cứng. Để khắc phục, bạn chỉ cần dùng Boot USB phân vùng và set active ổ cứng là được.

7. Ghost xong màn hình bị đen và chỉ xuất hiện một dấu nháy Lỗi Ghost này khá nghiêm trọng, nguyên nhân phần lớn là do mất MBR. Lúc này bạn cần sử dụng đĩa CD hay USB Boot để nạp lại MBR cho thiết bị.

Hướng dẫn cách tạo USB Ghost chỉ với 1 click

Sau khi tải Norton Ghost 11.5.1 cho USB về xong bạn hãy giải nén file ra, sau đó bạn làm theo các bước sau đây.

Bước 1: Cắm USB vào máy tính và mở My Computer lên xem ký hiệu chữ cái của ổ USB của bạn là gì. Ở đây mình xác định được ký hiệu chữ cái ổ USB của mình là ( H ).

Bước 4: Bạn chờ vài giây là nó sẽ cài đặt xong. Sau khi chạy xong nó hiện lên như sau. Bạn ấn 1 phím bất kỳ hoàn tất và phần mềm sẽ tự động tắt đi.

Vậy là xong. Bạn đã có 1 chiếc USB Ghost rồi đó. Bây giờ bạn có thể dùng nó để Ghost lại win cho bất kỳ máy nào mà không cần phải dùng đĩa Ghost.

Vậy bạn phải xem khi format nó báo lỗi như nào. Có thể usb đang đc bảo vệ nên không cho phép format hoặc trường hợp xấu hơn là usb đang bị virus nên khi cắm vào máy có file nào đó đang thực thi tự động nên nó không cho phép format.

Trước tiên bạn tải bản Ghost Win mới nhất TẠI ĐÂY và giải nén!

Sau đó bạn tiến hành thực hiện các bước sau: 

Bước 1: Chọn định dạng USB

Chọn ổ USB cập nhật Device và FAT32, sau đó đánh dấu vào các tùy chọn Format như ảnh và nhấp vào OK. Sau đó, nhấp vào Start để gắn kết các tệp hệ thống DOS. 

Nhấp vào Yes khi thư mục xác nhận hiện lên. Sau đó, nhấp vào OK.

1 Tạo USB Boot chứa Norton Ghost

Bước 1: Bạn thực hiện tạo USB Boot theo hướng dẫn này

Bước 2: Nếu USB Boot của bạn chưa có Norton Ghost thì vào đây để tải. Nếu đã có sẵn rồi thì thôi.

Bước 3: Giải nén Norton Ghost -> copy file vào USB Boot.

2 Tạo bản Ghost Windows 10

Bước 1: Cắm USB Boot -> khởi động máy -> vào Bios (hướng dẫn tại đây ) -> chọn Boot vào USB.

Bước 2: Khi giao diện hiển thị như ảnh dưới, bạn chọn Dos Programs .

Bước 3: Chọn Backup Tools .

Bước 4: Chọn Norton Ghost… (thông tin sẽ có sự thay đổi theo từng phiên bản mà Norton Ghost mà bạn tải về).

Bước 5: Chọn Ghost (Normal)

Bước 6: Cửa sổ Norton Ghost hiển thị, chọn OK

Bước 7: Chọn Local -> chọn Partition -> chọn To Image

Bước 8: Chọn đĩa cứng tạo file Ghost -> chọn OK

Bước 9: Chọn vùng mà bạn muốn tạo file Ghost. Vì chúng ta đang muốn tạo file Ghost cho hệ điều hành Windows nên chúng ta sẽ chọn Primary  -> chọn OK

Bước 10: Chọn vị trí để lưu file Ghost mới (chú ý không lưu chung vị trí với ổ đĩa của hệ điều hành gốc). Tại mục Look in -> ấn menu thả xuống rồi chọn vị trí lưu bất kỳ mà bạn muốn. Tại mục File name , đặt tên cho file -> chọn Save .

Bước 11: Cửa sổ xác nhận nén file Ghost hiển thị, chọn High .

Lúc này, hệ thống sẽ bắt đầu chạy quá trình tạo file Ghost hệ điều hành Windows của bạn. Khi quá trình này kết thúc, máy tính khởi động lại và sau đó bạn có thể tìm thấy file Ghost vừa tạo (đuôi .GOH) ở trong ổ đĩa đã chọn trước đó.

3 Copy bản Ghost Windows vừa tạo vào USB

Sau khi hoàn thành các bước phía trên, đồng nghĩa với việc bạn đã trải qua những quá trình phức tạp và mất thời gian nhất. Việc mà bạn cần làm lúc này chỉ là copy file Ghost vừa tạo (file có đuôi .GOH) vào USB Boot đã lập ở giai đoạn 1 là xong (hoặc bạn cũng có thể lựa chọn lưu vào ổ cứng của điện thoại di động nếu muốn).

Như vậy là chúng ta đã thành công tạo được một USB Boot có chứa bản Ghost Windows 10 không lỗi bên trong. Chiếc USB này sẽ là vũ khí cấp cứu bạn trong tương lai, khi mà máy tính chạy quá chậm hoặc thình lình xảy ra lỗi không báo trước.

Trên đây là toàn bộ quá trình tạo USB Boot, tạo bản Ghost Windows 10 và copy file Ghost Windows 10 vào USB Boot. Thủ thuật này rất hữu ích và có thể “cứu nguy” cho bạn bất cứ lúc nào. Vì vậy hãy lựa lúc máy tính ổn định nhất để tạo USB Ghost Windows 10 bạn nhé!

Thông tin về Ghost Windows

Ghost Windows (hay còn được gọi với một cái tên khác là backup – sao lưu) có nghĩa là sao chép dữ liệu đang được lưu trữ trên máy tính sang những thiết bị có dung lượng lưu trữ lớn hơn. Mục đích chính là để phòng các rủi ro xấu có thể xảy ra, chẳng hạn như trường hợp mất dữ liệu hoặc hệ thống không khởi động được.

Ghost Windows được sử dụng để hỗ trợ quá trình khôi phục dữ liệu, được phân thành hai nhóm là Ghost hệ thống và Ghost dữ liệu. Cụ thể như sau:

• Ghost hệ thống : Đây là hình thức sao lưu hệ thống nhằm ngăn chặn các file hệ thống bị lỗi hoặc mất do virus tấn công hay một số lỗi thường, từ đó hạn chế được tình trạng hệ điều hành máy tính không khởi động được. Vì vậy, việc sử dụng kiểu Ghost này để lưu trữ hệ điều hành sẽ giúp ích trong việc hỗ trợ khôi phục dữ liệu.
• Ghost dữ liệu : Đây là hình thức người dùng lưu trữ dữ liệu của mình, bao gồm các ứng dụng, file, cơ sở dữ liệu,… vào một vị trí khác để nhằm mục đích khôi phục.
