Horror movies and stories have taught us to avoid ghosts, but the GhostBed Classic mattress isn't something to run away from. It's a mattress that, unlike popular bed-in-a-box brands like Casper and Nectar, utilizes three different types of foams to achieve a more one-of-a-kind feel. GhostBed is owned by the reputable Nature's Sleep bedding company and has even partnered with tennis icon Venus Williams for a product collection. The company offers several different mattresses including its cooling option  GhostBed Luxe , but this review will focus on the GhostBed Classic mattress. I'll reveal my verdict on everything from firmness, feel, price, the types of sleeping positions it's best for and more below! First impressions 

I'm a big fan of anything spooky and scary, so of course GhostBed partly sold me on the cute ghost showcased on the end of the bed in its logo. Aside from that, I am a fan of the mattress and the fact they include a thin latex foam layer in the comfort layer. I really love latex foam for a number of reasons, namely the bounce and responsiveness it can add to a mattress. Paired with that memory foam center layer, it creates a more unique feel in the GhostBed Classic than the standard foam mattress, combining the best qualities of each foam. 

Straight out of the box, it does have a noticeable chemical-y smell and that's because of the synthetic foams used and the compression process. However, it will go away -- don't worry. A lot of bed-in-a-box mattresses emit this odor when you unbox them, with the exception of natural and organic mattresses.

When judging firmness, I try to gauge how much I'm sinking into the mattress, how much pressure relief I'm getting, and how supported my back feels. Is it sagging into the bed or in a straight line? For the GhostBed Classic mattress, I think it offers a little of both. 

That memory foam promotes a contouring feel around your curves but it doesn't feel difficult to switch positions on. It also gives ample support to my spine when I'm sleeping on my back or stomach. As a result, I'd rate the firmness around a medium, or a 5 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest. It's right at that sweet spot for firmness profiles that are accommodating for a lot of different sleeping positions. 

The GhostBed Classic mattress is entirely made from foam and it's about 11 inches thick. As I mentioned above, this bed utilizes three different foams, including synthetic latex foam. Synthetic latex foam has similar characteristics to the natural and organic form of latex, but without the steep price tag. Though, it isn't eco-friendly.  

Here's a rundown of the three foam layers in the GhostBed Classic mattress:

• First is 7.5 inches of a dense polyurethane foam which acts as the main support layer. 
• The center has 2 inches of gel memory foam which is better at regulating temperature than the typical memory foam.
• The comfort layer is 1.5 inches of GhostBed's latex foam. It's perforated across the surface, which lets air pass through, making it more breathable than most other foams like poly or memory foam.  

The cover on the GhostBed Classic mattress is made with polyester and viscose, and I must warn you it's not machine washable. So, even though you can take the cover off, I don't recommend you throw it in the washing machine. If you do, don't say I didn't warn you when you try to fit it back on. 

The three major foams typically used in mattresses are poly foam, memory foam, and poly foam. Most mattresses don't use all three, but the GhostBed Classic is different. I feel the support and sponginess of the latex foam, but it doesn't bounce like the typical latex foam bed. That's because I can also feel the slow-moving, contouring feel of the memory foam poking out underneath the latex foam. That makes it more neutral-feeling like poly foam, resulting in a blended foam feel overall. 

If you're someone who hates the feel of a memory foam mattress because it can give you that "sinking" feel, you'll probably be really pleased with the GhostBed Classic mattress. It's pressure-relieving, but you aren't going to become nestled into a memory foam cocoon. 

Motion isolation

This mattress does a great job at deadening movement, even though it contains that latex foam top layer. There are no springs and memory foam is second-to-none at isolating movement throughout a mattress. This is a feature to take into consideration if you share a mattress with somebody.  

Edge support

When you find yourself near the edge of a mattress at night, you don't want to suddenly feel the sensation of falling off -- or worse, actually topple off. This happens if the sides give easily and don't offer proper support. Foam bed-in-a-box mattresses generally have average edge support, and the same goes for the GhostBed Classic. It didn't blow me away, but it also shouldn't be bad enough that you won't be comfortable on the edge. 

Temperature

The GhostBed Classic mattress isn't going to sleep cold, but it is better at regulating temperature than other foam mattresses on the market, like the Casper and the Layla mattress . That gel memory foam helps prevent the bed from retaining heat, and the latex foam lets air pass through the entire layer. I didn't sleep hot when testing out the GhostBed Classic mattress, and I think most people will have that same sentiment. 

Who is it best for?

Considering the bed's all-foam construction and medium or 5 firmness level, here are the types of people I'd recommend this GhostBed mattress to. 

Mattresses in the center of the firmness scale offer ample pressure relief and support to side, back, stomach and combination sleepers. This makes the GhostBed Classic ideal for just about everyone, sleep position wise. 

Foam mattresses aren't as supportive or durable as hybrid mattresses, so I would mostly recommend this bed to people under 230 pounds, unless you plan on keeping it in a guest bedroom. Latex foam is usually decently expensive, but this GhostBed mattress is synthetic and will be a little nicer on your wallet. It's in the range of your average bed-in-a-box prices, on par with brands like Nectar and Casper. A queen size will retail around $1,295 but you can find the brand running promos pretty often. Warranty, shipping and trial 

If you've never purchased a mattress online before, you should know that it looks a lot different than purchasing in-store. It'll be delivered to your door (typically for free), rolled up inside of a box. Not a mattress-size box, but a box the size of a set of golf clubs. After you unbox it, it will slowly expand to its full size.

With the GhostBed Classic mattress, you'll have 101 nights to try out your mattress and figure out if you want to keep it. If you do, you'll be backed by a 20-year warranty. If you want to return it, reach out to customer service and they'll walk you through the rest of the process. 

Final verdict 

In a virtual sea of online mattresses, the GhostBed Classic finds a way to stand out from the rest of the competition even though it's a fairly simple foam mattress. Its use of all three types of comfy foam give it a more unique feel that combines the best of all worlds:  it's supportive and pressure-relieving, but not difficult to switch positions in. Here's why I say you should or shouldn't pull the trigger on GhostBed.

Our Verdict

The GhostBed is a combo foam mattress that uses perforated latex foam, gel-infused memory foam, and a support foam base. It strikes that nice balance of low motion transfer, but fast response time. If you like the feel of memory foam, but are worried about heat retention, too much sinkage and contour, or slow response, the GhostBed may be a good option to consider. The latex top layer helps keep the mattress cooler, increases response and bounce, and offers a more generalized contour around your body for excellent pressure relief.

We test 9 different factors that impact the comfort and feel of the mattress. Testing categories include:

How is GhostBed Classic Different?

The GhostBed Classic mattress has a slightly higher performance score than average as well as a price that is less than average—18% lower than the average foam mattress (a savings of over $300)

Other advantages to the GhostBed Classic include lower levels of motion transfer, faster off-gassing than average, and a lower price as well.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has 8% deeper sinkage than average as well as 18% less bounce than average. Both sinkage and bounce are more preferential than anything else, but definitely worth considering when trying to decide if the GhostBed is a good option for you.

Disadvantages

Edge support is a little deeper on the GhostBed compared to the average mattress (0.39″ more sinkage) and cooling struggles a bit as well. This mattress is memory foam so breathability issues are not that uncommon in budget memory foam mattresses.

The cooling performance was good, but not great. In our objective tests, the Ghostbed reached a maximum temperature of 92.7° F. This is near the very top of all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

Similarly, it was slower than is great when it came to heat dissipation. Speaking subjectively, during the tests I did feel slightly warm, but nothing excessive.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

My subjective experience wasn’t nearly as noteworthy as what our objective data seemed to indicate.

As a result, I feel there may be more going on with the cooling dynamic than our surface level temperatures are capturing.

In looking at the materials and design, Ghostbed uses a proven layer stack with aerated latex on top and memory foam within the core. In my view, most people will find the Ghostbed a comfortable temperature.

However, naturally hot sleepers or sleepers with a large bodyweight may find it warm and may be better off with something like the Ghostbed Luxe or a hybrid mattress (Ghostbed Flex, Ghostbed Luxe , Winkbed , Saatva , etc.).

Sinkage Test

We noted a sinkage depth of 2.34” in our pressure point test. This is within the normal range that we see for most mattresses at this firmness level.

It’s deep enough to offer sufficient pressure relief, without creating an excessive amount of hug or sinkage.

While lying on the mattress the combination of latex and memory foam create a nice level of contour and sinkage around the entire body. Because latex is on top the contour is more generalized, as opposed to memory foam, which has a more defined contouring shape.

Motion transfer was quite low. Our accelerometer tests revealed an acceleration range of 4.8 m/s².

Despite the fact that Ghostbed uses latex in the top layer, the mattress as a whole does a great job at managing energy and keeping motion transfer to a minimum. 

Within 0.3 seconds the bulk of the energy has been dissipated, and by 0.7 seconds motion transfer is effectively zero.

Response Test

Response time on the GhostBed was quite fast also. Within 0.4 seconds the mattress is able to mostly recovery and return back to its original shape.

Since the Ghostbed uses a memory foam core, it takes a full 1.0 seconds to 100% recover.

However, in general, the mattress is quick to adapt to changes in pressure and body position, keeping you well supported. During our tests, I never felt “stuck” or entrapped by the foams.

In my view, the latex foam is really carrying the load here. Latex is highly responsive and generally has a high bounce as well.

Placing it as the top layer helps to ensure the mattress has a traditional bounce feel, while offering great response and cooling also.

The Ghostbed’s 8.0″ bounce range is slightly below the average 8.2″ bounce height, which is the average among all mattresses we’ve tested to date. Even so, at 8.0″, it’s even much within the normal range and will be sufficiently comfortable for most sleepers.

Edge support was excellent. While lying directly on the edge I felt every bit as supported on the edge as I did on the middle of the mattress.

Our sitting test revealed a maximum compression of 4.5”. This is definitely near the maximum compression that we like to see, but not over the line.

The Ghostbed does a nice job of maintaining strong edge support, even when under heavy pressure.

While lying on the mattress the Ghostbed performed well. I felt perfectly supported while on my back and side lying directly on the edge of the mattress.

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

For the Ghostbed , these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.5.

The factors that helped the GhostBed the most include sufficient bounce, low noise output, and quality pressure relief.

The edge support was a little lacking, but not horrible. The cooling is good, but not great. Even so, it’s a fairly minor factor for sex, in our view.

Overall, I felt excellent pressure relief in all sleeping positions. The mattress is just north of a true medium at a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Even so, it’s got enough give within the top layers to relieve pressure across the body, while still offering plenty of support. The latex top layer creates a more generalized hug around the body, while the memory foam core provides deep compression sinkage, sharper contouring, and support. Together, these factors deliver excellent pressure relief for the majority of sleepers.

Petite people (110 pounds or less) may find that the pressure relief isn’t ideal, as to really engage the memory foam you do need to have a little more weight.

However, most other sleepers should find that the pressure relief is more than sufficient.

Off-Gassing Test

The off-gassing of the GhostBed is similar to the GhostBed Luxe . The initial smell is pretty strong, but the smell dissipates fairly quickly.

Overall, the off-gassing score doesn’t take a huge hit in score because in the grand scheme of things, two days isn’t too terribly long.

If you are ultra-sensitive to chemical odors, maybe let your mattress air out with a fan on or the window open. You can also run an air purifier to help move the VOCs out of the room as the process is completed.

GhostBed , as a company, has been around since 2015 and has a pretty good track record of customer service and quality. Ghostbed’s parent company, Nature’s Sleep, has been in business since 2001.

They offer a 101-night trial period with a 20-year warranty that is longer than usual for most foam-based mattresses.

Shipping is free (within the 48 continental states) and returns are free (one per household).

Returns are required to abide by the 30-night break-in period, a set amount of time for your body to get used to the mattress. GhostBed does not allow return requests until this time period has passed, which is pretty common across the industry.

How firm is GhostBed?

The GhostBed mattress is around a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale—a pretty traditional medium and just a touch firmer than the GhostBed Luxe.

Depending on your body weight and sleeping position, you may find different firmness mattresses to be better or poorly suited to your needs.

Since the GhostBed essentially falls in the middle of the road, most sleepers will find this mattress to be comfortable, regardless of body weight or sleeping options.

The GhostBed mattress is a combo foam mattress that uses different types of foam to provide different benefits like pressure relief, support, and that initial hug and contour.

Overall, it has a balanced feel. It’s the classic latex + memory foam design.

In some ways, it’s got a restrained memory foam feel. You can feel the memory foam contouring the body, however, the top layer of latex creates a faster response, more bounce, a cooler feel, and a more generalized contour.

The two foams work together to create a balanced and even feel that many sleepers will enjoy.

This mattress is 11″ thick and breaks down into three foam layers. The layers include:

• 1.5″ latex foam
• 2.0″ gel memory foam
• 7.5″ support foam

The cover of the GhostBed is a thin material made of viscose and polyester with a subtle seamed texture.

Side panels on the GhostBed are a blend of polyester and polypropylene. Combining these materials results in a cover that is soft, yet durable.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is essentially made up of two different materials. On the top layer is a responsive, perforated, latex foam. Latex foam is known for cooling properties and a faster response time, compared to memory foam.

The second layer is a gel memory foam. Again, the gel is designed to improve cooling and counter the typical feeling memory foam (which tends to run hot).

Aside from these design factors, I still felt like the GhostBed felt a little warmer than I expected it to.

The Support Layer

Lastly, the bottom layer of foam is a thick support foam, which is the densest of all three foams used. As you’d expect, this layer provides support for the upper foam layers and encourages spinal alignment when sleeping on the GhostBed.

• I think combination sleepers would be happy on the GhostBed. Its top layer of latex makes for a bouncy and responsive feel that will keep combo sleepers from feeling “stuck” in this bed.
• I think back sleepers would do well on this mattress. It offered some nice support to help promote a straight spinal alignment, while providing pressure relief at the lower back.

Who I don’t recommend the GhostBed mattress for

• I don’t think the GhostBed is quite soft enough for strict side sleepers. I’d recommend these folks check out some of our best mattresses for side sleepers .
• Similarly, I think strict stomach sleepers would find the GhostBed too soft. They need a firm mattress with extra support, like one of our best innerspring mattresses .
• I think couples who are easily disturbed by a restless partner might not like the GhostBed. It has pretty high motion transfer, which means you’re likely to feel movement from one side of the bed on the other. If you sleep with a partner or pet, I’d recommend checking out our best mattresses for couples .

How Firm is the GhostBed Mattress?

So, we’ve discussed some of the basics about the GhostBed, but how exactly does it feel? To find out, I’m going to put this mattress through a few different tests, starting with firmness.

As with any feel factor, firmness level is subjective, and can change a lot depending on one’s size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my interpretation of the GhostBed may differ from your own. For reference, I’m 5’10”, 190 lbs., and prefer to sleep on my stomach.

After rolling around on the GhostBed, I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale . When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed is a touch on the firmer side.

The mattress got a 7 from me because I felt as though the predominant feel was one of support and bounce . Though I did get some nice contouring from the middle memory foam layer, I wouldn’t say it curbed very much of the lift I experienced from the latex and high-density poly foam. That being said, I think this bed would probably be best-suited for combination sleepers , particularly those who flip between their back and side in the night.

Is the GhostBed a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 lbs)?

• Light Back Sleepers –  These sleepers should feel really comfortable on the GhostBed, which offers nice bouncy support in this sleeping position.
• Light Side Sleepers –  These sleepers will likely find the GhostBed too firm. I’d recommend they opt for a bed that offers more pressure-relief at the shoulders and hips.
• Light Stomach Sleepers –  Light stomach sleepers should like the GhostBed. I think it will offer them the support they need to keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders.

Is the GhostBed a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–250 lbs)?

• Average-Weight Back Sleepers –  I really liked how the GhostBed felt on my back! The memory foam layer provided plenty of contouring to my lumbar region while the latex and high-density poly foam worked to position me squarely on top of the structure.
• Average-Weight Side Sleepers –  Though you’ll experience a bit of pressure relief at the shoulders and hips, this bed is just a little too firm for long-term side sleeping. If you switch between your back and side, I think you’ll be alright, but otherwise, I’d suggest going for a softer GhostBed model (like the Luxe ).
• Average–Weight Stomach Sleepers –  This bed is a little too soft for these sleepers. That’s because these folks need extra lift at the hips to support an even spine alignment from the hips all the way to the shoulders.

Is the GhostBed a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lbs)?

• Heavy Back Sleepers –  Heavy back sleepers could like the GhostBed, its latex layer should do a nice job curbing sinkage and keeping them supported throughout the night.
• Heavy Side Sleepers –- Heavy side sleepers should opt for a different mattress. They’ll sink through this bed’s comfort foams onto its firmer base foams, which could lead to uncomfortable pressure points.
• Heavy Stomach Sleepers –  Heavy people won’t get the support they need on the GhostBed when sleeping on their stomach. I’d recommend they opt for an innerspring mattress that offers more support around the hips and lower back.

GhostBed Mattress Pain Relief Performance

Next, let’s chat pain relief. Pain relief is closely tied to a bed’s ability to relieve pressure at the shoulders, hips, and lower back in a range of sleeping positions. To assess this attribute, I like to use a handy dandy pressure map!

Though it may sound a little technical, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this device out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest. As I move around, the gadget records the force exerted by my body, creating a colored “map” of the pressure. For reference, blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.

Back Pain – These mostly blue pressure maps tell me the GhostBed could be a great choice for sleepers with back pain! It should be able to alleviate tension at the lower back, while offering firm support that helps these sleepers maintain a healthy sleep posture. Shoulder Pain – The green areas around my shoulders when I was lying on my side tell me this mattress is not a good option for folks with shoulder pain. I’d recommend checking out our best mattress for shoulder pain article for better options.

Hip Pain – Similarly, the green around my hips, plus the firmer feel of this bed, makes me think folks with hip pain might prefer a more pressure-relieving bed.

GhostBed Mattress Performance for Couples

Couples have unique mattress needs including motion isolation, sex performance, cooling, and edge support. Read on below to see how the GhostBed stacks up in these categories, and to learn more about why each is important!

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is the movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. An important factor for all to consider, but especially those who sleep with a child, partner, or rowdy pet!

To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

These are actually pretty high motion transfer results, which tells me that you’re likely to feel a lot of movement across the bed. If you sleep with a restless partner, this may not be the best mattress for you .

The best mattress for couples usually combines good motion isolation with enough responsiveness to make moving around during sex easy. The GhostBed is definitely responsive enough to be good for sex , but if you’re easily disturbed by a restless bedmate, it might not be the best choice for you.

Couples overheat more quickly than solo sleepers, so they tend to prefer cooling mattresses. Luckily, the GhostBed is very cooling thanks to its latex foam layer, which promotes airflow throughout the mattress.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how well supported you’ll feel while laying on the side of the bed. A mattress with great edge support feels larger, which is a perk for couples. In my opinion, the GhostBed has average edge support . This is typical for most all-foam beds, which tend to have less edge support than hybrid or innerspring models.

What is the GhostBed Mattress Made Of?

The GhostBed is built with three layers of latex, memory foam, and high-density poly foam. This combination makes for a unique feel, one that strikes a satisfying balance between pressure relief and support.

Cover –  Made of a polyester/viscose blend, this cover is soft and breathable .

Comfort Layer –  The top layer you’ll encounter is a 1.5-inch section of aerated latex foam. It’s a bouncy material with a lot of responsiveness that provides excellent mobility for moving around and changing positions. Latex is also naturally cooling , so helps to dissipate body heat throughout the structure. While latex is a fairly common mattress material, I’m intrigued by the aerated twist GhostBed puts on it, which works to encourage even more breathability and cooling. Latex is also a long-lasting material, adding some durability to the mattress.

Contour Layer –  Below the latex layer, you’ll land on one of memory foam. Gel-infused memory foam, to be exact. This distinction is an important one, because it signifies that not only are you getting the deep body-contouring and pressure relief typical of memory foam, but you also get a nice cooling buffer against its overheating tendencies. I also like that the memory foam is positioned underneath the latex layer, which ensures you won’t sink too far into the bed.

Base Layer –  And finally, the base of the bed, comprised here of 7.5 inches of high-density poly foam. This is an ultra-sturdy section that functions mostly as a support foam for the softer foams above it. Since the majority of the mattress is made up of this layer, I suspect it will lend the bed an overall firm feel.

GhostBed Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing

Like any bed-in-a-box mattress, the GhostBed will undergo a 24-48 hour off-gassing and decompression period after you unbox it. I think the GhostBed releases fewer off-gassing odors than most box mattresses, so if you’re particularly worried about smell, this bed could be a good choice for you!

My Final Thoughts About the GhostBed Mattress

You did it! You made it to the end of the review! After breaking down its construction, going over its feel, and even comparing it to some of its mattress siblings, it’s time to decide: Is the GhostBed the new bed for you? I can’t make that decision for you (sorry!), but I can leave you with a few final pros and cons to help you get there on your own.

My favorite things about the GhostBed 

Firstly, I really like this bed for back sleepers ! It’s got a soft foam top layer for pressure relief at the lumbar region, but plenty of support for neutral spine alignment. I also think it could be a great choice for folks who need to move around and change positions. There’s some nice mobility here, which helps prevent any sort of “stuck-in-the-bed” feeling. The bed is also a solid value buy. Compared to similar mattresses on the market, I’d consider the GhostBed to be pretty affordable.

My GhostBed Mattress Complaints

Though the GhostBed is fairly gentle, I’d still say the mattress feels too firm for side sleepers who really need to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. Additionally, this bed doesn’t have great motion isolation , so may not be the best option for couples.

When we review a mattress, we usually look at its firmness and feel first. This gives us a good initial idea of who the mattress will be a good fit for. Keep reading to find out how firm the GhostBed mattress is and exactly what it feels like.

How Firm Is the GhostBed?

We give the GhostBed an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale , which means it’s firmer-than-average. Much of this firmness can be chalked up to the high-density support foam, which is designed to provide a stable sleeping surface that’s well-suited to back sleepers and stomach sleepers, in particular.

Sleeping on the GhostBed

For most back sleepers, the GhostBed will deliver just the right level of support, allowing hips to sink into the mattress without feeling like you’re bottoming out. Some lightweight back sleepers may find the mattress a little too firm, but by and large, the GhostBed is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers . Stomach sleepers should also find the support they require under the hips.

For side sleepers, the GhostBed isn’t as easy to recommend. It’s too firm, and you may feel like there’s too much pressure bunching up at your shoulder and hip. Most side sleepers will want to look for a mattress with a little more give .

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs to 230 lbs

For back sleepers who are closer to the low end of this weight range, it’s possible that the GhostBed will feel a little bit too firm . Those closer to 230 lbs will likely find that it’s just the right balance of comfort and support.

Stomach sleepers in this weight range should similarly find the GhostBed to be comfortable and supportive. However, for average weight side sleepers, the GhostBed isn’t going to be the best match; it simply doesn’t have enough give to relieve pressure points.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Most heavyweight back sleepers should find the GhostBed to be just about perfect , though we’ll warn that those who surpass the 300 lbs range may want to consider a mattress that’s made with coils for additional durability and support.

Similarly, for stomach sleepers who are around 230 lbs, the GhostBed should offer just the right level of firmness. Those closer to 300 lbs, however, may want to look for a sturdier mattress . The cover of the GhostBed is made with a stretchy polyester material , which is very thin and breathable. It does a more than satisfactory job of keeping the mattress cool.

We also examined qualities like supportiveness, responsiveness, and motion isolation to decide if it’s a good fit for couples.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

This product’s weight limit is set at 750 pounds, which is significantly higher than many other bed-in-a-box foam mattresses. However, GhostBed does recommend that individuals over 300 pounds consider the King size for greater support and space.

Side Sleepers

• Lightweight Sleepers – The firmness of the GhostBed is likely too high for lightweight side sleepers. This means it may be too firm to adequately contour to these sleepers hips and shoulders, which may lead to pressure build up around the shoulders and hips.

Side sleepers in particular may experience a lot of pressure building up because they put a good amount of weight on small parts of the body. The GhostBed Classic contains two pressure-relieving materials – latex and memory foam – which softly conform to your body’s curves to maintain a comfortable position and melt away any pressure buildup.

Back Pain –  The GhostBed’s pressure-relieving latex layer should help eliminate lower back pain, and the supportive base helps with spinal alignment. Overall, this should be a great choice for those with back pain. Hip Pain –  While the Ghosted does excel at pressure relief, it may still be too firm for some sleepers to experience hip pain relief. Those who experience hip pain may be better served from a softer mattress that provides a deeper sink for greater pressure relief. Shoulder Pain –  When you sleep on your side, you concentrate a good bit of your weight onto your shoulder which can lead to aches and pains. The GhostBed should relieve shoulder pain for many, but some sleepers may crave a softer mattress that cradles this area more.

If your bed is too soft and doesn’t have a proper support system, your spine remains in an unnatural position throughout the night. This could lead to major back problems if repeated over a long period of time, but in the short term, it may create aches and pains in, especially in the back-sleeping position.

The thick, high-density foam base provides some bounce, as does the surface layer of latex, but this is slightly muffled by the memory foam layer that is sandwiched between the two. Overall, the bed has a medium bounce that should provide adequate support and assist with repositioning so you don’t feel stuck.

GhostBed performs well when it comes to motion isolation , as we typically expect from foam constructions. Foam absorbs and muffles vibrations before they transfer and disturb a partner sleeping on the other side. You should not have a problem with being woken by movement if you sleep light and this is a specific concern of yours.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

Hot sleepers need a cooling mattress to feel comfortable at night. Designed with a breathable polyester/viscose blend cover, aerated latex, and gel-infused memory foam, GhostBed should help hot sleepers have a cool trip to dreamland. After 7 years of sleeping on a hand me down queen mattress, me and my wife finally said it was time for a new bed. We looked all over, shopped all the stores and online. We then came across this bed called a ghost bed! Let me tell you, this bed has changed our sleep and our mornings. I couldn't be happier. I have neuropathy in my feet from chemotherapy and have to have my feet elevated anytime I'm not standing. I've been using a pillow under my feet for elevation and it hasn't always been comfortable. My kids said they'd buy me an adjustable bed for Christmas and I researched and researched. I didn't want them spending a lot of money. This bed was very reasonable so I decided to purchase it. Wow! I've only slept on it for 3 nights so far and I've slept 11 hours each night. The zero gravity position is perfect for my neuropathy. I love to sleep on my side and back and this bed is perfect for that. I can honestly say that I'm in love with my bed! However, I'm not a T-shirt kinda gal but love to wear them with leggings but they have to be extremely oversized. If you have a 3x to send me, I'll wear it and advertise for you.

We've had this mattress for about a month. We didn't notice much of an odor when we opened it, so we ended up using it that same night. Coming from a spring pillow top mattress, the first things I notices were 1) There is no bounce when you sit, move, roll over, or get out. 2) I didn't sink in to the foam as far I expected. The lack of bounce is great. I don't feel my wife move or get in or out of bed. I was expecting to sink in to the foam more than I did. Only certain areas sink in depending on how I am positioned, but in all positions it feels as if all points are getting equal support. I suffer from chronic back pain. It hasn't completely gone away in a month, but It seems to be improving. Our mattress came with 2 of the foam pillows. We have used those when sitting up in bed, but they are too soft for me to use for sleeping. My wife feels the same.

Also, recommend a full 24 hours to allow the bed to expand, so plan on sleeping else where, or leave it on the floor.

My wife and I were bed shopping, and were using the traditional mattress store as a bit of research. We thought we'd found the right bed. A cooling tech infused firm memory foam bed in Cal King for about $2300. I wasn't too enthused about the price, but it was the best bed I had found until that point. I left the store thinking it would be a soon to be purchased item, and ended up travelling for a conference and staying in an AirBnB about a week later. As it turned out, the AirBnB had a queen sized GhostBed in it with the GhostPillow too, and I slept wonderfully. Probably the most comfortably I had ever slept. This was it. I had to have my own. I looked it up and say the great 101 day trial period, the additional bonuses of ordering around the holiday season (free GhostPillows and a reduced pricepoint), added a protector, and away we went. Since the mattress arrived, both my wife and I have been sleeping amazingly. In truth, it has almost affected me negatively in that I now tend to get to work a bit later than I used to. It really is hard to leave the bed... Anyway, I highly recommend the bed to anyone who is seeking a quality mattress at a great price. 10/10, would buy again.

I find my GHOSTBED extremely comfortable. It is supportive but not uncomfortably firm to me. That said my sister would not like it as her definition of firm is more like "hard as a rock." However, any buyer should be aware that it does require the appropriate foundation. I am saving my $$$ to buy their platform. My old mattress and box springs were labeled full/queen and must really have been full size as the GHOSTBED mattress is too large and extends over the box spring on each side. I added planks underneath to support it but it still feels as if we are going to fall off if we don't gravitate to the center of the bed.

I am a side sleeper with a cervical issue. Our mattress was 15 years old so I thoroughly researched mattresses and especially since Consumer Reports rated it very high, we decided to invest much more money than we ever had on a mattress to buy the Ghost Bed. We bought the complete set, foundation, queen size mattress, 2 pillows, and the mattress protector. Although a pain to put together, I did get the foundation built. The mattress was unboxed right on the bed which was a good thing because it is completely unwieldy. I CANNOT imagine why the designers did not put hand grips on either side or end. I believe it had to be a marketing thing to discourage returns because really, that thing is going to be really difficult to move. Now, I LOVE the sleep that I get on the mattress even though it's a tad firmer than expected, and especially that I don't feel any movement from my spouse who comes to bed much later than I do. However, despite Consumer Reports giving the mattress high scores for durability, we've already found the mattress pitting on both sleeping sides and we haven't even had it 30 days. That's extremely concerning and will drive whether we return it before the 60 day guarantee. This mattress is probably an excellent choice for the younger more fit crowd but not for the older (but wiser lol) less fit set.

It arrived shortly after we had purchased it, great deal, and the set up was simple. The bed is very comfortable, I have had issues with my back and this mattress seems to help. We also got the pillows and they are comfortable however I find that they are too high and hurt my neck so I alternate between pillow and no pillow, the bed is that comfortable that I can sleep without a pillow.

The shipping and delivery process was quick and easy. No problems with set up, and no strong odor. Unfortunately this bed was too firm for me. I am a side sleeper under 130 pounds and dont really sink in to get that gentle support I was hoping for. My heavier back sleeping partner enjoys the firmness. The two pillows have a pretty big design flaw IMO, the huge embroidered logo can be felt through the pillow case, its hard and scratchy, so only one side of the pillow is usable.

I was skeptical at first, the bed felt so much firmer than my last $2600+ name-brand European pillow top, not to mention that it came in the mail and was only $695. I figured I’d give it a week or two before I made any decisions but initially thought I’d end up returning it. After the first week I loved it, as did my husband. It helped my husband’s and my back pain a great deal and kept us from tossing and turning all night. It’s supportive but not too firm and you don’t feel like you’re being eaten by the bed and can’t get out of it. The biggest problem that I had with the bed we’re replacing is that after the first year it ended up sagging and making impressions in the spot where we normally sleep. I haven’t had this bed long enough to tell if it will do the same. I hope not, but the warranty is reassuring and if we need to replace it it’s a lot cheaper than the previous one.

We haven't purchased a mattress in over 15 years, so looking into all of the different types was a rather daunting experience. We were used to sleeping on a good old coiled mattress with a pillow top: a mattress that was proving to be "too soft" for my husband and just plain "too old!" for me, plus it was causing us problematic sinus issues, (15 years- no wonder!!). So...after reviewing our options and seeing the advertisement for GhostBed on Amazon, we decided to compare it a Casper mattress, (one my husband was 90% certain that he wanted). Once I read aloud all of the pros of the GhostBed to my husband, his reaction of "we have a winner" was all we needed, (well...that, and the deal we scored on Ghostbed.com for two free pillows plus $100 off the mattress price), so we ordered one, certain that the 101 night sleep testing period was a for sure thing. Turns out, we definitely made the right choice! The Ghostbed is perfect, 1) for people in the big/tall range, 2) those with allergies and certain sensitivities to dust, etc., 3) provides just the right amount of support, but also just the right amount of "soft". Since it's winter, we haven't really been able to experience the claims of good air circulation in order to keep the body cool, (more of a warmer weather asset, I believe), it currently fits the ticket. I love laying down at night and cuddling with my hubby on this mattress! We didn't experience any problems with the product having an odd/overwhelming smell after opening up the bag and it was actually enjoyable to watch it inflate before our eyes! It set perfectly on top of the box springs, (which we decided to retain), and so far all of our queen-sized sheets fit it perfectly- actually, even better than they did on our old pillowtop. We're both using the complimentary pillows and they really do support the head and neck in any laying position. Yes, we are happy with our purchase and hope to still feel that way ten years down the road!

Like you perhaps, I did the research on all the current mattress in a box offerings, evening going to pop-up events to try some. Based on construction, past reviews and value I opted for the Ghost Bed, Queen-sized. My mattress arrived in just days and was shipped without any damage and packaged beautifully with minimal waste. Opening and unwrapping the mattress was a breeze, and I did let it "set up" for the afternoon before trying it. Let me just say its the most comfortable mattress Ive ever had and I've spend far more on "name brand" store sets with cumbersome delivery and difficult set-up. The Ghost Bed is better than promised. I'm even thinking of adding another one for the guest room. I like it that much.

I bought this bed due to all the reviews stating the bed was supportive. I suffer from spasticity and having to much give causes more muscle contractions. This bed ended up being more supportive than I was expecting. I ended up adding another layer of memory foam padding, hopefully just until I break it in. If you're getting this mattress under the notion that you want a firm bed, you better mean it. There is some motion transfer, which is frustrating. I'm still on the fence as to whether I'll keep it.

I purchased the ghostbed mattress about 3 weeks ago and it's still very firm and they mentioned to give it 30 days to break it in. I no longer wake up with any back pain though so that is a good sign and I'm hoping this bed will soften up in the coming weeks. We've even been jumping on the mattress hoping that would help but If you like a firm mattress this will be a great mattress for you. Easy setup but the mattress in the box is very heavy and you definitely need two people to lift this thing up the steps.

I did a ton of research before I purchased. I thought it was a little insane to buy a bed that I never tested out first, but this IS by far the best mattress I've ever purchase. I talk about the GhostBed so often that I think I'm becoming a walking infomercial. As far as how I sleep... I typically go to bed earlier now than I did before. According to my sleep tracker, I fall asleep faster and have a more restful night sleep. I wake up feeling refreshed. I did buy two pillows which I love just as much. My only criticism is that I need a smaller pillow underneath the GhostPillow to make just a little higher. My advice: Buy it. You'll love it.

I'm not going to lie, coming from a coil spring mattress, there is some adjustment time needed, but not much. By the 4th night, both my hubby and I were sleeping like babies! My husband has always tossed and turned a lot in his sleep,but not nearly as much now, and even when he does, I cant even feel it! This mattress is the PERFECT combination of softness,and support, it truly is like sleeping on a cloud! Definitely found our new mattress brand, just hope that it holds up like they say so we can enjoy many years of comfort on it! I do have to say, we got the free pillows included, and the verdict is still out there, although I believe that is just a personal preference, as we both have used Down filled pillows most of our lives. My husband is usually sweating within a couple of hours but he hasn’t gotten hot at all since we’ve gotten this mattress! Initial Thoughts: The bed was pretty easy to install/unfold my personal experience is that there was no off gassing or weird smells. Please note that I have owned the bed under 90 days. One thing to take into account while I am generally cold natured however, even I have to tell you that the bed runs a bit on the warm side so I would advise that if you are hot natured to consider your self warned I got it this winter so I don't know how it will be come summer. Final Thoughts: TBD mainly because I haven't had it long enough to be really thorough.

The free pillows came in two days after ordering the bed. Well I must say it is really a fantastic mattress. It is firm but plush. It is nice, cool to the touch and I haven't been sweating at night since I've slept on it. I'm also really glad it fits perfectly in our California King bed. Our other Cal King was shorter. There was a gap at the head of the bed that our pillows would fall through to the abiss. This mattress fills that area and all the way to the foot board. We recently ordered the Luxe mattress and were definitely looking forward to the new mattress. The mattress we replaced was a gel/memory foam and was fairly pricey, which we bought from a store just about 2 years ago. We when we bought our new Ghost bed, we were actually pretty skeptical about buying this and the claims made about it. But our old one slept so hot, and although it seemed comfortable, we always woke up stiff and sore. So we thought we'd try out the Ghost bed. We could always return it if we needed. Well, it arrived more quickly than we thought, which was nice. The next surprise was that that was not a smell to it that these kinds of beds can have. No odor at all. Our first night we were excited to try it. I can say that the cooling effect of it seems quite real. I can't wait until summer to try it then. We both slept very well, and when we woke up did not have that soreness that we usually had on the other bed. It is a little more firm than we were used to, but as it turns out, that doesn't matter. We are comfortable and it feels great to get in bed. It is supportive in all the right places without causing pain. My wife sleeps on her side usually and when she sleeps on a firmer mattress, her hip often sore. But not with the Ghost Luxe! We have had it for about a month and are quite happy with it. We have ZERO intent on returning it. Our only problem is what to do with our old mattress now!

Overall, I LOVE this bed. I bought it based on a referral my friend gave. Her husband had done extensive research before purchasing a Ghost bed. To note, they love it. Initially they tried a Tuft & Needle which they found too hard. We received the bed the first week in December so it is still fairly new to us. The biggest benefit is I find once I put my head down I am out faster then I have ever fallen asleep on any bed, I wake up feeling rested. I am not disturbed if my husband turns or moves about at night. The only reason I am deducting a star is I find I have some lower back pains and some nights I find I wake up a little achy, I am not sure if this is just me or that the bed does not give enough for side sleepers, there is the chance that it does not relieve pressure points as well as I would like. It is still new to us and Ghost said it takes some time to get used to. I do think I need to re-evaluate after 30 days. For me, I like the firmness but could probably go half a point less. My husband could go half a point higher so I think this is a good compromise.

I’m 60 years old and had been sleeping on a very expensive, extra plush pillow top mattress. I thought I liked a really soft mattress, but was waking up several times a night and was really stiff in the mornings - Getting old, I thought. I ordered the Ghost Bed because of it’s cooling properties, but for me the best feature has been sleeping more comfortably through the night and waking significantly less stiff.

I haven't noticed a significant improvement in my sleep over the 10 year old mattress we replaced. It's not terribly uncomfortable, just not as good as I was hoping for. I sleep very hot and was hoping this would help that situation. It's definitely colder than other mattresses when first going to bed, but I still get just as hot as I used to as the night goes on.

Got rid of my Tempurpedic and thought I would give this a try! I’m a little bit of a bigger guy (5’9 and fluctuate between 200 and 230lbs.) my old mattress was too soft and I was in constant pain, biweekly chiropractor appointments, and weekly massages. This mattress is just the right firmness, the “cooling sensation” from the top is truely amazing, I was very skeptical. The adjustable base is great, plenty of positions and the massage can be nice. I wish the LED lighting underneath it had changeable color, or at least a warm white color instead of the bright cool blue white. The mattress does shift from side to side when you use the adjustable features. But I bought a mattress keeper (kinda like the thing you put under rugs) it seems to help a ton! I was disappointed in FedEX. My mattress and base shipped together, under 1 master tracking number and showed being delivered together, but I ended up with the base two days before the mattress. Ghostbed customer service wasn’t great, but not bad. Pretty just sorry, nothing we can do. All in all I’m satisfied thus far. Didn’t get the t-shirt it seems most people get.

Got this bed (King Luxe) about two weeks ago and no chance I am sending it back. I knew night one. I used to wake 3-4 times a night and now maybe once a night. I'm 55 yo male after all so even once a night is amazing for me but I have slept through the entire night more often than not since I got this bed. HUGE difference in quality of life. If you aren't sleeping well you need to try this bed.

That email was never replied to and too my surprise they apparently shipped these pillows instead without any confirmation from me. I never got a shipment notice they just suddenly arrived. The CS agents were always personable and friendly. But for a company advertising "The best customer service n the biz" the experience was completely unacceptable. Sleep Trial Scam - Mark R

I purchased a GhostBed Luxe King Bundle with the adjustable base. The mattress was very uncomfortable so we decided to return it under the 101 night trial policy. Although we were aware the we would have to keep the base, GhostBed stated they would remove all discounts and we would only receive a $415 credit for a mattress that is normally $2545.00 but is currently discounted to $1782.00 if purchased separately. We paid $2980.00 for the bundle meaning they stuck us with the base for $2565.00....there sleep trial is a SCAM!

Horrible Company!, if you can call it a company. Buyer Beware! I purchased the mattress and adjustable foundation from Ghostbed. Two separate pieces with 2 separate discounts which is listed on the receipt. Before the trial period expired, I asked for a return and I followed instructions and donated the mattress as instructed and as acknowledged by Ghostbed. They then informed me that the mattress that I paid $2100 for, I would only receive a refund for $1,400 as they were taking all of the discounts offered on both the mattress AND the adjustable foundation and applying them to the refund. ( $2100 minus $700.) The adjustable foundation is non-returnable and I never asked to return it. They state it is in their terms and conditions yet their refund policy states "FULL REFUND". There is a very loose reference in their terms and conditions but the interpretation is extremely loose and would easily be squashed by a lawyer. These folks don't make their money off of satisfied customers, they make their money off of returns which I guarantee paid for the mattress and then some. DO NOT believe that you will get a full refund on the Sleep Trial from Ghostbed for any reason. Ghostbed is a ripoff and everyone on the internet is saying so.

After hearing nothing from Ghost Bed for an order I placed 26 days ago, I had an online chat with them today. The call center told me that the new estimate would be by the end of the month, but clearly this was a guess as the center could not access the order or shipping system. After the agent kept fumbling around, I cancelled my order. However, the agent could not tell me when a refund would be made. Poor execution and worse customer support. The said someone would follow up with me , but they did noy know when this would occur. Would not recommend purchasing from Ghost Bed.
