I, I cross the road and I hide Just to avoid the times When you sat at my side So battered by the tide A wreck exposed at my door My eyes they cannot lie So get up from the floor For you, you've had your time Your chance has gone You're not so strong Your tongue, they cannot harm me now I cross the road and I hide Just to avoid the times When you sat at my side So battered by the tide Your chance has gone You're not so strong Your tongue, they cannot harm me now With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting Then on my tongue lies disgrace I'm still haunted by you Yes, you, you're in my way With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting From(incomprehensible)to the grave I've been haunted by you Yes, you're in my way With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting And on my tongue lies disgrace I'm still haunted by you Yes, you're in my way With all the things that I've said I'm still haunted by you In every town, in every place, you're waiting And on my tongue lies disgrace I'm still haunted by you Yes, you, you're in my way

The B-sides of absolutely stunning "Haunted By You" (which merits purchase all by itself) are overshadowed by that meteor of an A-side, but are quality nonetheless. "Do You Want to Hear it From Me" is a simple ditty well supported by piano, and the more pleading, plaintive "How Much For Love" is another quietly compelling kiss of desire as yet unfulfilled. In a word, wow... © Jack Rabid /TiVo

A gene is a molecular unit of heredity of a living organism. It is a name given to some stretches of DNA and RNA that code for a polypeptide or for an RNA chain that has a function in the organism. Living beings depend on genes, as they specify all proteins and functional RNA chains. Genes hold the information to build and maintain an organism's cells and pass genetic traits to offspring. All organisms have many genes corresponding to various biological traits, some of which are immediately visible, such as eye color or number of limbs, and some of which are not, such as blood type, increased risk for specific diseases, or the thousands of basic biochemical processes that comprise life.[citation needed] more »

This Creepy Space Invaders Remake Haunted Me As A Kid
Posted: October 23, 2023 | Last updated: October 23, 2023
- Space Invaders Infinity Gene is a bombastic and bizarre adaptation of the classic arcade game, with strange graphics and chiptune music.
- The game breaks the fourth wall, adding an unsettling element and creating a conception of a greater power behind the game.
- The creepy and minimalist music, along with the mix of pixel art and vector lines, adds to the overall weirdness.
Anyone remember the Xbox Live Arcade? It was a way to get your mitts on cheap and free games for Xbox 360 , many of which were ports of classic arcade games or other titles that you can easily pick up and play. A lot of these games were part of my earliest gaming memories (which, now that I think about it, explains my taste for games that get you playing right away ). I could never forget the great time I had playing Frogger, Joust, Pacman , Dig-Dug, and more with my dad and sister.
However, one that sticks out in my mind is the version of Space Invaders that we had. Not a port of the arcade classic (one of the oldest and most influential titles of the medium) but something more... out there. A game that broke the fourth wall, shattered any initial conception of an ordinary Space Invaders game, had bizarre graphics that blended pixel art with stuff that looked like it came straight out of a Virtual Boy lens, and was all encased in jarring, bleeping chiptune music. I recently rediscovered the identity of this adaptation, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, and it's everything I remembered. A bombastic take on a classic formula, yes—but one that can't help but seem just a little off.
The game starts out with classic Space Invaders gameplay (sans bunkers). This facade quickly falls away, however, to reveal your ship enveloped in a white void with black lines revolving from the center like a maddened compass. A bleeping plays with the cadence of a Geiger counter as a quote from Charles Darwin fades into view, remarking that it is the species "most adaptable to change" that survives. New text comes onscreen to say "THE KING OF GAMES IS BACK!" before throwing you into the first true level, where fast-paced music takes over and the background becomes gradient. The gameplay switches up to where you can shoot rapid-fire blasts, cause chain explosions, and fight aliens as they fly onto the screen in all different sizes.
RELATED: You Think $70 Games Today Are Expensive? Let Me Tell You About the 90s
I'm sure none of this was intended to be creepy, but rather, to give off a sort of neo-'80s vibe, similar to something like Pacman DX or the laser tag places I went as a kid. Less like the '80s nostalgia we have now, but more in the vein of a remix, taking older ideas and mixing them in with neon colors and an aggressive soundtrack. It's hard to articulate, but it's got the same pseudo-sci-fi vibes as those blacklight laser tag arenas blasting the Halo theme (still have no idea if they were allowed to use that) while I was on the run from an enemy team. The sound effects, genre, and childhood ties are probably what put them together in my mind.
Regardless, what makes this off-putting when compared to the stuff it reminds me of can be divided into a couple of things—the first of which being the fourth-wall break. Breaking the fourth wall, while often used for comedy, can be a surefire way to scare, especially in games, due to the increased immersion. Stuff like the second half of Doki Doki Literature Club and the Genocide ending of Undertale show the game being aware of the player, suddenly dragging us into the proceedings of the plot and breaking convention. This is especially unsettling when it comes from a game with the expectations of the original Space Invaders, a simple arcade game that shouldn't be unraveling and espousing quotes from Darwin in some liminal void. It produces a (likely unintentional) conception of there being some greater power behind the curtain—a living presence in the game.
Another thing that makes this unassuming title creepy is that damn music . Not the stage music, mind you—that's pretty typical for non-retro Xbox Live Arcade games. It's the music after a stage or during those aforementioned void sequences, this (forgive my lack of musical vocabulary) sharp, sort of minimalist rhythm that sounds like static rising and falling. You know Lavender Town's theme? That piece of Pokémon music that's spawned a thousand creepypastas? Imagine that but much, much shorter with far less of a mood.
That's the thing with this track—it doesn't portray much of any emotion. It exists in this space between white noise and song. I'm sure I'm making a mountain out of a molehill here, but that's the part that still freaks me out today. That piece of music just adds to the feeling of uncovering something that shouldn't be seen, as does the fourth-wall-breaking facade drop.
Other than these parts, the game is just kinda weird. It's a mix of pixel art, Asteroids-esque vector lines, and rudimentary 3D in the vein of Starfox on SNES . The style works very well when put together, no doubt, and it's a really nice way to evolve the formula alongside the chaotic gameplay that introduces all manner of new shot types and enemy variants. It's a madhouse, sure, but it's a solid one. Nonetheless, this bizarre subversion combined with unsettling music and a game that talks right to you has always stuck in my mind for being just a little creepy.

Travel | haunted mansion bar is coming to disney’s new cruise ship.

Disney Cruise Line is delving once again into the nostalgia vault with a bar inspired by the Haunted Mansion theme park attraction coming on board new cruise ship Disney Treasure when it debuts from Port Canaveral in 2024.
Haunted Mansion Parlor is a new concept that will serve up macabre drink concoctions in an expansion of the stories told at Disneyland, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and other Disney parks around the world.
It joins previously announced venues on the new ship inspired by the Jungle Cruise and 20,000 League Under the Sea, further carving out an identity closely tied to Disney’s original theme park attractions.
The next chapter involves “a jovial captain who entered the ghostly realm after a disastrous dinner with his beloved fiancé,” according to a Disney Cruise Line press release.

Disney describes the drink as having hints of sweetness and nuttiness with decadent ube fudge, oat milk and tapioca pearls in a purple concoction garnished with a gummy eyeball and ube glitter. Honoring the memorable grandfather clock seen in the original Disney Parks attraction, the Haunted Parlor Mantel Clock will loom over the fireplace inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor on board the Disney Treasure, instigating mysterious happenings when it strikes 13. As a part of the new merchandise collection, Disney Cruise Line guests will be able to bring home their very own mantel clock, just like the one from the parlor. (Steven Diaz/Disney Cruise Line)

Those who venture into the darkly lit venue will encounter glowing apparitions appearing within the massive mirror behind the bar while music inspired by the theme park ride’s score will set the mood.
Promised to appear are “an ever-escalating anthology of illusions that immerses guests into the mysterious lore of the Haunted Mansion,” mixing old favorites from the ride with new characters that “will come out to socialize in mysterious ways throughout the experience.”
Its styling will be tied to the Disneyland version that opened in 1969 “reminiscent of a first-class drawing room from the classic cruise liners of the golden age, invoking inspiration from the original Haunted Mansion with a nautical twist.”
Throughout the bar will be tributes to the theme park attractions amid purple wallpaper with wooden finishes. That includes a portrait gallery and mantel clock that strikes 13 that will be sitting over a fireplace near a purple armchair.
Among the libations will be themed alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails including the Sympathetic Libations, a drink that mixes blood orange and sour cherry served in a specialty mug. The Ghoulish Delight will have ube fudge, oat milk, tapioca pearls mixed in a purple liquid garnished with a gummy eyeball. Another drink will be a margarita with swirling smoke that has a secret message that can be read under a black light.
Along with the experience, the cruise line will offer exclusive merchandise tied to the venue including a music box, the mantel clock and parlor mirror with its own hitchhiking ghosts.
Disney Cruise Line queues up old and new features for new ship Disney Treasure
Disney Treasure is the sister ship to Disney Wish that debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022, the second of three in what was originally called the Trident class of ship, slightly larger than the older Disney Dream and Fantasy coming in at 144,000 gross tons, but sticking with the 4,000-passenger capacity also on Dream and Fantasy.
It’s currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and will begin sailing alternating seven-night, eastern and western Caribbean itineraries out of Port Canaveral with its maiden voyage Dec. 21, 2024. A third unnamed ship in the class is due in 2025.
Previous highlights unique to Disney Treasure that have been revealed include a new stage show based on “Moana,” a dinner theater experience based on the Disney Pixar movie “Coco,” a new dessert venue themed to “Zootopia,” and a high-end suite inspired by Epcot.
Like Disney Wish, it will have a version of the combination dark ride and water coaster AquaMouse, the children’s play area Oceaneer Club with venues tied to Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Imagineers, Disney Princesses and Mickey and Minnie; and new iterations of both the Worlds of Marvel and 1923 restaurants.
The Haunted Mansion Parlor takes the place of the Star Wars-themed bar found on Disney Wish.

Not only is Woodburn the most haunted location in Delaware, but it’s also one of the top five haunted houses in America, according to the study, flanked by Ravenswood Mansion in Bunceton, Missouri; Cliveden in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Hay House in Macon, Georgia; and Liberty House in Frankfort, Kentucky.
What is Woodburn?
Woodburn is a middle period Georgian house built in 1798 by Charles Hillyard III that housed gentleman farmers, landowners, two U.S. senators, two doctors, an abolitionist, a dentist, a judge and eight recent Delaware governors, according to the State of Delaware website.
Why is Woodburn haunted?
The eerie history of the residence dates back to around 1815, when the Woodburn Ghost first appeared.
As the tale goes, Dr. Martin Bates and his wife, owners of the residence at the time, were entertaining a local preacher, Lorenzo Dow, when he asked the couple over breakfast if they should wait to begin the meal prayer until the other guest in the house was present.
Bates, confused by the question, explained to Dow that there were no other guests in the house, to which Dow replied by sharing a story about a gentleman he met on the staircase. According to Dow, the gentleman wore a powdered wig, knee britches and a ruffled shirt. It was an exact description of Dow’s father-in-law and builder of the home, Hillyard.
Since then, Hillyard has been spotted by others in the home, according to Dover history, and “was known to enjoy a strong drink.” If a glass of wine was left downstairs at night, an empty glass in the morning would be a giveaway that Hillyard had treated himself, according to the State of Delaware website.
Another owner of the house, Frank Hall, claimed to pass Hillyard on the steps, describing him in the same way others had in the past. Jeanne Tribbitt, wife of former Gov. Sherman Tribbit, was known to regularly check the stairway for Hillyard’s presence. She also left out a glass of wine for him multiple times but saw no results.

How scary is Delaware compared to other states?
Smoky Mountains gave each state a spooky ranking, which used the search results from the haunted locations combined with the number of Spirit Halloween stores and haunted houses per state. This data was then used alongside the average reviews for the haunted houses to create the Spookymeter used for the study.
The Spookymeter rankings are as follows:
- One and 1.5 equal “not so scary.”
- Two and 2.5 equal “somewhat spooky.”
- Three and 3.5 equal “I’m a little scared...”
- Four and 4.5 equal “nightmare fuel.”
- Five equals “AHHHHH!”
According to this methodology, Woodburn’s 585,000 searches plus five state-wide Spirit Halloween stores plus six state-wide haunted houses brings Delaware’s total score to 585,011. The average haunted house review of Woodburn, Delaware’s most haunted location, is a 4.5 out of 5.
This information is now used to give each state a rating on the Spookymeter using the following formula:
- Zero to 149,999 points plus a four/4.5-star rating equals a 1 on the Spookymeter.
- Less than 150,000 to 199,999 points plus a four-star rating equals a 1 on the Spookymeter.
- Less than 150,000 to 199,999 points plus a 4.5-star rating equals a 1.5 on the Spookymeter.
- Two hundred thousand plus 499,999 points plus a four-star rating equals a 2 on the Spookymeter.
- Five hundred thousand to 599,999 points plus a four-star rating equals a 3 on the Spookymeter.
- Five hundred thousand to 599,999 points plus a 4.5-star rating equals a 3.5 on the Spookymeter.
- Six hundred thousand to 999,999 points plus a four-star rating equals a 4 on the Spookymeter.
- Six hundred thousand to 650,000 points plus a 4.5-star rating equals a 4 on the Spookymeter.
- Six hundred and fifty thousand to 999,999 points plus a 4.5-star rating equals a 4.5 on the Spookymeter.
- One million points and above plus a 4.4-star rating and above equals a 5 on the Spookymeter.
Combining the above results and using the scary scale, Delaware is a 3.5 on the Spookymeter, placing it above the majority of the states, including our neighbors New Jersey, which scored a two on the Spookymeter, and Maryland, which scored a 1.5 on the Spookymeter.
The top 10 scariest states, according to the Spookymeter are:
- California, which scored a five on the Spookymeter.
- Utah, which scored a five on the Spookymeter.
- New Hampshire, which scored a 4.5 on the Spookymeter.
- Missouri, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada and Pennsylvania, which all scored a four on the Spookymeter.

‘Haunted’ Upstate asylum where 1,700 died crowned NY’s creepiest place

East Bethany, N.Y. — Goosebumps are guaranteed at a “haunted” former asylum in Upstate New York that just earned a terrifying title.
Rolling Hills Asylum, a former poorhouse in Genesee County where over 1,700 people reportedly died, has been crowned the creepiest place in New York. The asylum — which paranormal investigators consider alive with supernatural activity — received the spooky honor from HGTV, which released a list of the creepiest places in every state just in time for Halloween.
Rolling Hills made the list alongside the Sloss Furnaces of Alabama, where dozens of workers died, to Bonaventure Cemetery in Georgia, the haunted graveyard featured on the cover of “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”.

New York’s infamous East Bethany asylum opened in 1827 in a former stagecoach tavern, according to Rolling Hills . Originally called the Genesee County Poorhouse, the institution housed everyone from “habitual drunkards” and “lunatics” to people who were destitute, had disabilities, or were widowed or orphaned, the asylum said.
Everyone who lived in the poorhouse was called an “inmate”, Rolling Hills said, and those who were physically able to work labored on the property’s farm — raising animals, growing vegetables, running a bakery and building coffins.
Countless bodies were buried in a potter’s field. But when the asylum closed in 1974, the cemetery gradually crumbled as plants crept over the grounds.

Since its closure, ghost hunters have flocked to Rolling Hills in search of the asylum’s ghostly secrets.
Some of the hunts have been televised. The Travel Channel even compiled a rundown of Rolling Hills’ most famous spirits — ranging from Roy, an inmate with gigantism who lived in the asylum from age 12 until his death at 62, to Nurse Emmie, an infirmary worker with a reputation for cruelty and a rumored penchant for Satanic rituals.
Rolling Hills Asylum is now open for guided tours, ghost hunts and — yes — even weddings. It is on the Haunted History Trail of New York State , which brags the former poorhouse was previously dubbed the second most haunted site in the United States by Haunted North America.

It is filled with relics from the asylum’s past, from crates and dolls to chairs and bathtubs that brave tourists often climb into for spooky selfies.
Rolling Hills is housed at 11001 Bethany Center Road in East Bethany. To learn about how you can tour the institution, visit the asylum’s website .
