Does your iPhone's screen seem to have a mind of its own? If apps are opening on their own or your icons are moving erratically as if a ghost is touching your screen, you're not alone—especially if you're using an iPhone X or iPhone 11, as both models are known to have issues with defective display modules. Fortunately, most ghost touch problems are easy to fix. This wikiHow article will teach you 11 easy ways to fix ghost touch on any iPhone.

Restart your iPhone.

  • If you determine the problem is related to a charging cable, you may also want to try plugging the charger into a different outlet or device, such as using your computer instead of a wall outlet. This can help you rule out grounding problems with problematic wall outlets, extension cords, and power strips.

Clean your screen.

10 Ways to fix ghost touch on iPhone

Ghost figure in a Black iPhone screen with Orange gradient background

Ghost touch is when your iPhone screen starts functioning on its own. Although touchscreen displays have completely changed the way we use phones, they come with drawbacks.

Before we delve deeper into the solutions to fix the ghost touch issue on iPhone, let’s first understand what it is and which devices have experienced the same.

What is ghost touch on iPhone?

Which iphones are affected by ghost touch, how to get rid of ghost touch on your iphone.

As the name suggests, ghost touch is when the screen seems to react to non-existing touches, and the application starts functioning without you doing anything. Ghost touches are bothersome and may necessitate having your iPhone repaired by Apple. However, before attempting some quick fixes, you must first understand what causes ghost touch on iPhones.

Causes of ghost touch on iPhone

  • Replacing or removing the touch screen during repair

Usually, if touch screens have been changed or removed during repairs, you might experience issues with screen sensitivity and ghost touch.

  • Manufacturing defects

Ghost touch can occasionally result from a manufacturing error. Back office and supply chain implications, industrial automation, data analytics, and other areas of the manufacturing/logistics departments might be responsible for such faults. Programming errors can even sabotage the entire software processing. Therefore, the program installation gone wrong might be to blame.

  • Hardware problems

Ghost touch might also be caused by a hardware issue. To check for hardware issues on your iPhone, launch Settings → select Privacy & Security (iOS 16) or Privacy (iOS 15 or earlier) → Analytics & Improvements → Analytics Data . There could be a list of error logs there.

Steps to check for error logs on an iPhone

  • Software issues

A glitch in the software, such as the iOS 16 upgrade, is a frequent cause of ghost touch. If there is a flaw in the update, it can influence how sensitive the screen is, and you might get an extremely annoying ghost touch.

In November 2018, Apple acknowledged that some iPhone X models had touchscreen problems. Even though that’s an old issue, some users of iOS 16 on iPhone X have brought it up in 2022 as well. Apple hasn’t publicly acknowledged the iPhone ghost touch issue, but investigations and internet complaints have proven that other models have also been impacted. Below is a list of the models rumored to have this screen glitch:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 13

Note: Ghost Touch can occasionally be experienced on any iPhone.

Here are 10 simple solutions that help you stop ghost touch on your iPhone. Let’s get started!

1. Check Accessibility settings on your iPhone

Accessibility settings may have an impact on the touch of your iPhone. You may have unintentionally activated Touch Accommodation, Assistive Touch, Back Tap , or even a function that recognizes taps on your phone’s back. To adjust these settings:

  • Open Settings → Accessibility → Touch.
  • Now, toggle off/on these four options as per your liking: Assistive Touch, Touch Accommodations, Back Tap, or Haptic Touch.

Steps highlighted for opening Accessibility touch settings on an iPhone with iOS 16

2. Restart your iPhone

You may always try restarting your smartphone if you have problems with the iPhone screen glitch. As rebooting always updates your devices, it also fixes any ghost screen issues that may have been caused by applications. Follow the steps mentioned in our detailed guide to restart your iPhone .

3. Stop using third-party accessories

Some third-party charging cables, headphone jack adapters, battery charging cases, and other accessories might cause odd screen motions. If you only experience ghost touch while a physical peripheral is attached, it is most likely the accessory that is to blame. So, it is recommended to use accessories certified by Apple and check if the problem resolves.

4. Clean your screen

You may think it’s only a silly step, but you have no idea how effective this one could be. To start cleaning the screen on your iPhone, make sure all external peripherals are unplugged. Now, wipe the screen with a soft cloth. Lint-free cloths and screen cleaning sprays are preferred.

5. Update to the latest iOS

Your iPhone may face compatibility issues if you’re using an older version of iOS. Your existing iOS may have some bugs that may lead to phantom touch issues on your iPhone. To rectify the iPhone glitch screen, you may update iOS to the latest version using the steps mentioned in our detailed guide.

6. Update apps in App Store

iPhone’s ghost touch issue might be caused by out-of-date applications. It would be best if you upgraded the out-of-date apps on the Apple Store to correct them. You may have a few applications waiting for updates if automatic updates are not enabled. Read the following article for detailed information about how to update an app on iPhone .

7. Remove or replace your iPhone’s screen protector

Screen protectors are very thin sheets of glass or plastic that are used to shield the iPhone’s screen from damage. While they are often advantageous, they occasionally may interfere with your touchscreen’s functionality. Be careful not to scratch your iPhone’s screen when removing the screen protector from your phone.

8. Reset iPhone Setting s

If you feel like the ghost touch issue is because of the settings you’ve customized recently, then you can always revert back to your iPhone’s default settings. To reset your settings back to default, you need to follow the following steps:

  • Launch Settings → General .
  • Go to Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings .

Steps showing how to factory reset an iPhone

9. Do a factory reset

This is the last resort if your iPhone continues to have ghost touch errors. You can attempt factory resetting your iPhone to fix the glitch screen issue. I advise backing up your iPhone before continuing because this step will erase the device’s data. Please go through our guide on how to factory reset your iPhone and iPad for detailed steps.

10. Contact Apple Support

Well, if none of the aforementioned measures work for you, there’s always Apple Support. You might be able to get your screen changed for free, depending on your iPhone model and warranty. To obtain assistance, you can get in touch with Apple Support directly or go to a nearby Apple Store or authorized Apple Service Provider.

Note: If you own an iPhone X or an iPhone 11 that’s manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020, then Apple will replace your iPhone’s screen for free.

Winding up…

Please let us know in the comment section if you experience any other issues with your device. I’ll make it a point to respond as soon as possible. Don’t forget to read the other articles as well. Below is a list of a few topics that might interest you.

How to Fix Ghost Touch on an iPhone: 9 Potential Fixes to Try

Does your iPhone perform actions on its own? You might have the “ghost touch” issue. Here are several possible fixes for it.

Ghost touch is when your iPhone screen moves or starts tapping buttons on its own. The screen seems to react to nonexistent touches, which means apps open and start doing stuff without you actually touching anything. Unsurprisingly, such strange actions can be more than a little annoying.

However, while ghost touch sometimes requires you to take your iPhone to Apple for a repair, you can try a number of quick fixes for free. These range from cleaning the iPhone’s touchscreen to performing a factory reset.

Which iPhones Are Affected by Ghost Touch?

Ghost touch problems most commonly affect the iPhone X. In November 2018, Apple admitted that it had found some issues affecting the iPhone X’s touchscreen. It also announced that it would provide free repairs to affected customers.

However, reports and complaints online have shown that the iPhone ghost touch issue also happens on other models. Affected iPhones include not only the iPhone XS and XR, but also older models like the iPhone 8, 7, 6, and 5 as well as newer models like the iPhone 11, 12, or 13. In other words, ghost touch is something that can, on rare occasion, affect any iPhone.

Whatever model you’ve got, here’s how to fix ghost touch on your iPhone.

1. Clean the Touchscreen

It may sound simple, but cleaning your iPhone’s touchscreen can be an effective defense against ghost touch. By doing this, you will clear away any debris or dust that was causing your iPhone to think you’re touching the screen.

To clean your iPhone’s touchscreen, you should first turn it off and unplug any cables. Next, you should find a soft and clean cloth, such as a lint-free cloth for cleaning glasses. You should lightly dampen this cloth with water. Finally, start cleaning the touchscreen by wiping gently but firmly from one end to the other.

While wiping, make sure you don’t get moisture into any openings.

Also, Apple recommends that you don’t use window or household cleaners, or cleaners containing abrasives or hydrogen peroxide. You could erode the oil-resistant coating Apple put on your iPhone screen if you do so.

2. Take Off Your Screen Protector

Screen protectors are thin layers of glass or plastic that you can attach to the iPhone’s touchscreen to protect it from scratching or cracking. While they’re often useful, they can disrupt how the touchscreen operates. You should therefore try removing any screen protector, since doing so could easily fix ghost touch problems.

You should remove your iPhone’s screen protector very carefully and slowly. Start at one corner, and then gradually peel the protector off the iPhone’s screen. If the protector has been cracked or damaged at all, it might be safer to take your phone to a suitably qualified repair shop (or to Apple) to ensure you don’t cut yourself on the cracked glass.

You should also consider contacting the manufacturer of the screen protector. This manufacturer might be better placed to recommend the best method for removing the protector and may be able to refund you if the screen protector caused your iPhone’s ghost touch problems.

Don’t forget to clean the screen again after removing any screen protectors.

3. Remove Your iPhone’s Case

Another possible cause of ghost touch on an iPhone is a slightly twisted screen. If your iPhone has such a screen, you might be able to solve the problem by removing any hard case you’re using. Occasionally, it can be this hard case that twists the screen, so removing it can fix the issue.

In online forums, some iPhone users have noted that their hard case got twisted after dropping their iPhone. As such, it really is worth trying to remove the hard case if your iPhone has one.

4. Restart Your iPhone

It’s always a good idea to restart your iPhone whenever it has a problem. This also applies to ghost touch issues, since it’s possible that clearing your iPhone’s temporary memory by restarting it could fix any glitch that is causing the the screen to play up.

To restart an iPhone that doesn’t have a Home button, do the following:

  • Hold the Side button and either Volume button until the slide to power off slider appears.
  • Swipe the power off slider to the right.
  • After shutdown, hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

To restart an iPhone with a Home button, take these steps:

  • Hold the Top (or Side) button , until the slide to power off slider appears.
  • After shutdown, hold the Top (or Side) button until the Apple logo appears.

5. Force Restart Your iPhone

Similar to restarting your iPhone but noticeably more drastic, you could force restart your iPhone. You can do this if your iPhone’s ghost touch problem is so severe that you can’t even turn it off properly. That’s because a force restart works even when your iPhone doesn’t.

To force restart on an iPhone 8 or later, do the following:

  • Press and quickly release the Volume Up button .
  • Press and quickly release the Volume Down button .
  • Hold the Side button .
  • Release the Side button when the Apple logo appears.

To force restart an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, the steps are:

  • Hold the Volume Down button and the Sleep/Wake button .
  • Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears.

To force restart an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus or earlier, you should do this:

  • Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button .

6. Update iOS

If ghost touch is still a problem, you should update your iPhone . This is worth doing because ghost touch might have been caused by a software bug that Apple has fixed in a recent update.

You need to do the following to update your iPhone:

  • Open Settings .
  • Select General .
  • Press Software Update .
  • Tap Download and Install or Install (if you’ve already downloaded the update).

7. Perform a Factory Reset

If restarts and software updates don’t stop your iPhone’s ghost touch problem, you should perform a factory reset on your iPhone . This is a good way of removing any underlying software issues that might cause ghost touch.

You should back up your iPhone before performing a factory reset because this will wipe all your data.

To reset your iPhone, you should do the following:

  • Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset .
  • Press Erase All Content and Settings .
  • Tap Continue and enter your iPhone passcode.

After you’ve performed the factory reset, you’ll have to go through the setup process again. This is where you can choose to restore your iPhone from a previously saved backup.

8. Reinstall iOS Using Recovery Mode

If a simple force restart doesn’t work for you, you can try putting your iPhone in Recovery Mode and reinstalling iOS. To put an iPhone in Recovery Mode , connect it to a computer running macOS or iTunes and follow the steps above to force restart the iPhone.

Once in Recovery Mode, your computer will show a message that says, “There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored.” You should click Update (if available) or Restore .

Restoring your iPhone from Recovery Mode will wipe all your data. You should therefore back up your iPhone beforehand, if possible.

If Recovery Mode doesn’t fix your iPhone, try using DFU mode instead. This is an even deeper version of Recovery Mode that reinstalls all the firmware on your iPhone as well as the software.

9. Take Your iPhone to Apple

If your iPhone is still suffering from ghost touch, you should book an appointment at your nearest Apple Store for a repair. That’s because you’ve exhausted the software fixes now, so it must be a hardware issue that is causing ghost touch on your iPhone. For example, some owners have mentioned that improper display assembly or touchscreen seating can cause the issue.

You shouldn’t take your iPhone apart and try to fix such causes yourself unless you have considerable experience doing so. It’s much safer to turn to Apple Support , which is where you can book an appointment. Attempting a DIY repair will also void any warranty you have on your iPhone.

Bad iPhone Repairs Can Cause Ghost Touch

If your iPhone needs a hardware repair to fix ghost touch, make sure you only use Apple or an Apple-authorized service provider. This is because low-quality parts or dodgy repairs can cause various problems with your iPhone screen. They could even cause ghost touch in the first place.

In this article, we will explore the causes behind ghost touch on iPhones and provide you with actionable tips to resolve this issue. So, let’s dive in and put an end to the annoyance of ghost touch once and for all!

Inside This Article

Method 1: calibrate the touchscreen, method 2: update ios to the latest version, method 3: reset all settings, method 4: restore iphone to factory settings.

Ghost touch is a frustrating issue that some iPhone users may encounter. It refers to the situation where your iPhone’s touchscreen registers touches or gestures that you did not make. This can lead to random apps opening, letters being typed, or unintended actions occurring on your device. Ghost touch can be caused by a variety of factors, such as a software glitch, improper touchscreen calibration, or even physical damage to the screen.

In this article, we will discuss a few methods that can help you stop ghost touch on your iPhone. From calibrating the touchscreen to updating the iOS software, these solutions can often resolve the issue and improve the functionality of your device.

Before we dive into the methods, it’s important to note that if your iPhone is still under warranty, it’s recommended to contact Apple or visit an authorized service center for assistance. They can provide expert advice and support to resolve any hardware or software-related issues you may encounter.

If you’re dealing with ghost touch issues on your iPhone, one of the first troubleshooting steps you can take is to calibrate the touchscreen. This method helps with recalibrating the touch sensitivity of your iPhone, which may have become misaligned or unresponsive due to various factors.

To calibrate the touchscreen on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  • Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on “Accessibility.”
  • Tap on “Touch.”
  • Under the “Interactions” section, toggle on the “Touch Accommodations” option.
  • You will see a new setting called “Touch Accommodations” appear. Tap on it.
  • Toggle on the “Hold Duration” option.
  • Adjust the slider to the fastest setting.
  • Next, toggle on the “Ignore Repeat” option.
  • Adjust the slider to the slowest setting.
  • Finally, toggle off the “Touch Accommodations” option.

Once you have completed these steps, your iPhone’s touchscreen will be recalibrated. This may resolve the ghost touch issues you were experiencing.

Keep in mind that this method is not guaranteed to fix all cases of ghost touch problems. If the issue persists, you may need to try other troubleshooting methods or contact Apple support for further assistance.

One common solution to stop ghost touch on your iPhone is to update the iOS operating system to the latest version. Apple regularly releases updates to improve the performance, security, and stability of their devices, which may include bug fixes for touch screen issues.

Updating your iOS is a simple process that can be done directly on your iPhone. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Connect your iPhone to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Go to Settings on your device.
  • Scroll down and tap on General.
  • Tap on Software Update.
  • If a new update is available, you will see it listed. Tap on “Download and Install” to initiate the update.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

It is important to note that updating your iOS may require a significant amount of storage space. Therefore, make sure you have enough free space on your device before performing the update. It is also advisable to back up your data before proceeding with the update to avoid any potential data loss.

By updating your iOS to the latest version, you are likely to receive bug fixes and improvements that address the ghost touch issue on your iPhone. If the problem persists even after updating your iOS, it may be necessary to try other methods to resolve the issue.

Resetting all settings on your iPhone can be an effective solution to fix the ghost touch issue. This process will not erase your data or media; instead, it will reset all settings to their default values.

To perform a reset of all settings, follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on General .
  • Scroll down again and tap on Reset .
  • Choose Reset All Settings from the available options.
  • Enter your passcode if prompted.
  • Confirm your decision by tapping on Reset All Settings again.

Once the reset process is complete, your device will restart, and all settings will be restored to their default configurations. This includes network settings, display settings, accessibility settings, and more.

It’s important to note that while this method can resolve the ghost touch issue for many users, it might not work for everyone. If the problem persists after resetting all settings, you may need to consider other methods or seek further assistance from Apple Support.

Remember to back up your data before proceeding with any reset or restore process to ensure that you don’t lose any important information.

Now that you’ve learned about the steps to reset all settings on your iPhone, you can give it a try and see if it resolves the ghost touch problem. Remember to check out the other methods as well to find the best solution for your specific situation.

If you have tried the previous methods and are still experiencing ghost touch issues on your iPhone, you may need to consider restoring your device to factory settings. This method essentially erases all data and settings on your iPhone, returning it to the state it was in when you first purchased it.

Before proceeding with a factory reset, it’s crucial to back up your iPhone to prevent permanent data loss. You can do this by connecting your iPhone to a computer and using iTunes or by using iCloud backup. Once you have a backup, you can follow the steps below to restore your iPhone to factory settings:

  • Tap on your name at the top of the screen to access your Apple ID settings.
  • Scroll down and tap on “iCloud”.
  • Tap on “iCloud Backup”.
  • Make sure the “iCloud Backup” toggle is turned on.
  • Tap on “Back Up Now” to create a backup of your iPhone’s data to iCloud.
  • Once your backup is complete, go back to the main “Settings” screen.
  • Scroll down and tap on “General”.
  • Scroll down again and tap on “Reset”.
  • Tap on “Erase All Content and Settings”.
  • If prompted, enter your passcode or Apple ID password.
  • Confirm your decision by tapping on “Erase iPhone”.

After initiating the factory reset, your iPhone will begin the process of erasing all data and settings. This may take some time, so be patient and make sure your iPhone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and has sufficient battery power.

Once the reset is complete, your iPhone will restart and prompt you to set it up as new or restore from a backup. If you have a backup available, you can choose to restore from it and regain access to your apps, contacts, and other data. However, if you choose to set up your iPhone as new, you will need to reconfigure all your settings and reinstall your apps manually.

Note: Restoring your iPhone to factory settings should only be done as a last resort, as it erases all data and settings. Make sure to back up your device before proceeding and consider seeking professional help if you are unsure about the process.

Ghost touch on iPhone can be a frustrating issue that disrupts your mobile phone experience. However, by following the troubleshooting steps and implementing the solutions mentioned in this article, you can effectively mitigate and resolve the problem.

Remember to start by cleaning your screen and removing any protective accessories that may interfere with touch sensitivity. 10 Best Ways to Fix Ghost Touch On iPhone

The iPhone was one of the first devices to introduce multi-touch capabilities to the masses. More than 15 years later, all our smartphones use multitouch displays, albeit with several improvements. While large touchscreen displays have revolutionized the way we use phones, they are accompanied by some issues.

how to fix ghost touch on iPhone

Whether it’s the iPhone screen dimming automatically or the touch screen not working, display issues are common. Another such issue that’s quite infamous is ghost touch on iPhone. If random areas on your iPhone’s screen are registering touches or you’re unable to tap in the right places, you’re probably facing this issue. Fret not, as here’s how to fix ghost touch on iPhone in a few simple ways.

What Is Ghost Touch On iPhone?

The ghost touch issue is exactly what it sounds like. It happens when random areas of your screen register touch or things start moving by themselves on your Home Screen. It almost creates an illusion that someone else is touching your iPhone screen, hence the name ghost touch.

how to fix ghost touch on iPhone

If you’ve experienced an app getting launched by itself on your iPhone without you tapping on it, or if random characters automatically appear in your sentence while you’re typing, it is referred to as ghost touch. Ghost touch hinders the experience of using your iPhone normally so it’s best to fix it as soon as possible.

There are several factors causing ghost touch on iPhone like voltage fluctuation, a capacitive surface coming in contact with the screen, grounding issues, etc. It’s generally due to a hardware malfunction and can rarely be caused by something like a virus. In all, it just feels like your iPhone is acting weird.

Which iPhones Are Affected by It?

Ghost touch issues can plague just about any smartphone with a touchscreen display out there. So, you may face the problem on any iPhone regardless of which model it is. However, some iPhone models are known to have widespread ghost touch issues. The iPhone X, for example, had ghost touch issues which Apple later addressed with a free replacement program .

iPhone X

Several posts on Apple’s forums show that users with the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 have also faced ghost touch problems. The simple inference from this is that the issue is not isolated to a particular model or variant. Regardless of which iPhone you have, you may experience ghost touches that can be solved by following the instructions below.

How to Stop Ghost Touch On iPhone

Here are some simple solutions that you can try at home to get rid of the ghost touch on your iPhone before heading to Apple for a repair or replacement.

1. Don’t Use the iPhone While Charging

As mentioned earlier, one of the reasons for ghost touch can be voltage fluctuations. If your wall outlet or charging adapter has some sort of voltage fluctuations, it can trigger ghost touches and cause your iPhone screen to glitch.

iPhone charging

So, it’s best to let your iPhone charge when it’s resting and use it once you’ve disconnected it from the charger.

2. Clean the Screen to Get Rid of Dirt

If your iPhone’s screen is dirty or if it has patches of dust on it, there’s a possibility that those dust particles are getting registered as taps on the screen. In that case, you will observe a random part of the screen moving on its own.

iPhone screen dirty

Take a microfiber cloth and some rubbing alcohol and clean your iPhone display thoroughly. Ensure there is no dust, dirt, or debris before you use your iPhone. It’s also important to make sure that your fingers are clean before using your iPhone again.

3. Wipe off Any Water on the Phone’s Screen or Body

Since water is conductive, it can mimic a touch input on the screen. Thus, causing ghost touches. This is why it’s not advisable to use your iPhone when you’re out in the rain.

iPhone in water

Wipe off any drops of water from the iPhone’s screen and body and ensure it’s dry. Dry your hands too before attempting to use the iPhone once again.

4. Remove the Screen Protector

A lot of times, a poor-quality screen protector may interfere with the proper functioning of the touchscreen on the iPhone. Remove any screen protector you’re using and check if the ghost touch persists.

5. Disconnect Any External Accessory Connected to the iPhone

After the removal of the headphone jack, the only way to connect your wired pair of headphones to the iPhone is to use a lightning to 3.5mm adapter. If you have connected any external accessory to your iPhone via the lighting port, it could be causing the iPhone display to glitch.

iPhone accessorry

This is because any external accessory draws voltage via the lighting port so there could be some fluctuations if the device isn’t properly connected. Unplug it and check if the ghost touch issue is solved.

6. Remove Any Case You’re Using

There are two reasons why your phone case should be causing the ghost touch on your iPhone. The first one is that some portions of the case on the front might be touching the display causing it to misbehave. The second reason is that there can be some grounding issues with the phone that you cannot identify with a case on.

iPhone thick case

For example, the iPhone 12 mini initially had some sort of grounding issue due to which it had ghost touch problems. Until Apple rolled out an update to fix it, the solution was to use the phone without a case since touching the metallic portions of the phone would ground it, thus, eliminating the issue. So, try removing the case from your iPhone to see if it helps.

7. Force Restart the iPhone

For all you know, it could be a software issue that’s causing ghost touches on your iPhone. Try force restarting your iPhone to see if it fixes the problem.

For iPhone 6s or lower:

Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time. Release them when you see the Apple logo on the screen.

For iPhone 7:

Press and hold the Volume down key and the Power button. Release them when you see the Apple logo on the screen.

For iPhone 8 and higher:

Press and release the Volume up key, press and release the Volume down key, and then press and hold the Side/Power button till you see the Apple logo on the screen.

8. Update Your iPhone to the Latest Version of iOS

If there’s a problem with the software, does the iPhone ghost touch go away on its own? Well, no. The iOS version on your iPhone could have some bugs, leading to phantom touch issues. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS to fix any potential bugs. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1:  Open the Settings app on your iPhone and select General.

10. Factory Reset the iPhone

This is the final solution if nothing else works. Note that this step will wipe all your data, so it’s best to take a backup of your iPhone  before proceeding further. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1:  Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on General.

Step 2:  Scroll to the bottom and select ‘Transfer or Reset iPhone.’

clean touch screen

The dirty screens of an iPhone can often activate the ghost touch. If you keep your device clean, it can prevent the ghost touch issue. Therefore, make it a point to clean the screen of your iPhone regularly.

Switch off your device and remove cables if they are connected. Now, grab a soft piece of cloth; the best one to use is the cloth that comes with your contact lens. Dampen the fabric a bit, then begin the cleaning process. Be gentle while doing that.

Don’t use household or window cleaners to clean the iPhone screen. If a cleaning agent contains hydrogen peroxide or abrasives, you must keep them away from the iPhone. Hence, dampen the cloth with a few drops of water only.

Method 2: Remove the Screen Protector from iPhone

remove screen protector

Many iPhone users use screen protectors to protect the screen. Although screen protectors are helpful and keep the main screen free from scratches, they can be the reason of iPhone ghost touch issue.

You can remove the screen protector on your own by pulling one corner and eventually removing the rest of the protector. However, if you are not confident of removing the protector on your own, it will be better to take the iPhone to a shop and allow the professionals to take care of it.

Touch screens are arguably the most important way we interact with our smartphones. When it is working erratically or inputting touch on its own, it can be more irritating than not working at all. Although it seems like your phone has a mind of its own, it’s not possessed—the touch screen is simply on the fritz.

Before we get into fixes, there are a few known issues related to touch in iPhones. If you have an iPhone 11, check your eligibility for an Apple Service Program. iPhone X has a similar program . Finally, iPhone 6 Plus is subject to well documented board issues affecting touch. If none of those apply to you, here are some basics to get you started

  • If you are concerned about your data, perform a backup! Touch screen malfunction is a common cause for the dreaded "iPhone Is Disabled" message that occurs when an incorrect passcode is entered. You may not even realize it is constantly entering the wrong passcode until it's too late.
  • Perform a force restart . This could clear any minor software hiccups.
  • Clean and dry the screen, as well as your hands. Modern touch screens are reliant on your skin’s natural electrically conductive properties. If the screen, or your hands have substances on them that change these characteristics, your touch screen may behave erratically or not work at all.
  • Remove any screen protectors or cases. They may impede proper electrical interactivity with the display.

Any software which contains errors can cause an iPhone to act unpredictably. It can cause the phone to think an area is constantly being touched.

  • See if touch works properly on the home screen. Ask Siri to “Go to the home screen,” if necessary.
  • If touch on the home screen works, open the App Switcher and close the app(s) where the issue occurred.
  • Reopen the affected app and try to recreate the issue. If it reoccurs, check the App Store for updates and install them. Uninstall and reinstall the app if no updates are present.
  • If the home screen is also behaving unpredictably, this is more likely a hardware issue, but you can update your phone to be certain.
  • To rule out software entirely, be sure you have a current backup, and restore your phone using the recovery mode method . This will delete all data on the phone. Set the device up without restoring any of your data to test. This will ensure no third party apps are responsible.

How to Put an iPhone Into Recovery Mode

You may need to use recovery mode to restore your device in the following situations:

  • You forgot your passcode or your phone is disabled.
  • Your screen is stuck on the Apple logo for several minutes with no progress bar.
  • Your phone is bootlooping.

Note: If you forgot your passcode, you will have to erase the device.

Although most display failures seem obvious, even without visible damage, the display may not work properly due to something amiss internally.

Block Image

  • Look closely at your phone for signs of damage. Minor cracks in the screen or bends in the housing are often responsible for touch problems. Changing your viewing angle helps to catch small hairline cracks. Note: Even if damage has been present for some time, a small shift in an existing crack could affect functionality.
  • Use a touch screen tester. Download one from the App Store—many free ones are available. Open it up and leave your phone unlocked on a table. Don't touch it for a few minutes. See if any input is detected.
  • Check internal cables for tears or other damage. Have a look at the iFixit Display Replacement Guide for your iPhone to determine which cables are related to screen function. In older phones, there may even be a cable dedicated to touch.
  • Recently replaced your screen? The new display may be faulty. Third party replacements are of variable quality. Issues with touch functionality are rampant in low grade parts. Contact the shop which performed the replacement or the vendor you bought the display from and ask about warranty.
  • If you find damage, or software fixes have not made a difference, replace the display. Parts and tools to do this can be found at the iFixit Store .

Solid Product

Love Ghost and their products and it’s great that they have an app for news and orders now. The only complaint I have is the account setup, wish the account you have on the site worked when signing in. I ended up just setting up the account on the app the same way as online just some more extra steps you have to go through. The verify email part was a little annoying didn’t work and had to reset my password and start over again. Eventually I got in, just something to keep in mind during the next update to make this more seamless.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback! We are rolling this out as an update as we speak. We appreciate you, legend!

Was Confused, Not Anymore

ETA: Thank you Support! For anyone who sees this, if you click sign up on the app it tells you to do same username/password and it’ll connect. I never clicked to the second screen to see these instructions because I was so confused with the first page. My accounts linked up quickly. Thank you again support. Original Review: App does not let you log in with your website account information. If I can’t use my website account, does that mean that my app points and my website points are completely separate? I’m just going to delete and re-download if/when they get connected.
Hey legend, if it's your first time on the app, please click sign up using your email/password that already exists with your loyalty account. If they do not sync up, please email [email protected] & we'll make sure you're taken are of!
I’m pretty new to using Ghost products but I dove pretty deep after trying it once. Ended up getting legend, size, protein and just got my greens and t-shirt today. Already seeing more energy in the gym, gains in the progress pix and feeling better all around after only about a month since starting these products. The app is super clean and straight forward. No complaints! 🙌🏽
Thank you Legend!

20 iOS 17 tips and tricks: the ultimate iPhone cheat sheet

iOS 17 tips and tricks.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

Looking for the best iOS 17 tips and tricks? You've come to the right place! iOS 17 brings some fantastic new features and small tweaks that make using your iPhone better than ever before.

These tips and tricks will help you get the most out of iOS 17 so you feel like you're getting everything the iPhone offers. Make sure to click on the headline of each tip to get access to the full how-to guide.

Here are the best iOS 17 tips and tricks from StandBy to Contact Posters.

1. Stop the typos

Autocorrect on iOS 17 is filled with new advancements to make your iPhone more clever when it comes to typing. No longer will you accidentally type "duck" because your iPhone will now know you meant to say ****.

2. Customize your contact card

Contact Posters are a great new way to customize your phone calls and are the biggest change to the Phone app in years. Whether you want a lovely headshot or a Memoji, this should be the first thing you set up on iOS 17.

3. Self reflect and look after your mental health

Coming with some pretty decent built-in mental health check systems, if you use your phone a lot, it's worth figuring out how to track your mental health. Even if you don't think you need help, it's good practice for when you might.

4. Use multiple timers at once

If you really need to make sure you wake up in the morning or need a little help in cooking multiple things at once, setting a few timers is a good way of doing so.

5. Easily share contact details

NameDrop is a fantastic way of keeping in touch. By simply putting two phones together, you can add each other to your contacts or send pictures in a split second. The animation is sick, too.

6. Save money on a bedside alarm clock with StandBy

StandBy is the best way to use your phone while it is charging. Being able to add your own widgets and customize your music, videos, and more on the fly — it's one of iOS 17's best features.

7. Leave a FaceTime video message

With iOS 17, you can leave a video message when someone misses a FaceTime request. This means that you can capture where you are when calling and can leave a quick note in case you forget why you called. It's a nice little feature that is great when you want to leave a special message for a loved one.

8. Make sure your loved ones are safe

Particularly great on nights out or on long trips, iOS 17's Check In function gives you a little peace of mind. Being somewhat automated, you will never need to manually send that check in text again.

9. Make your stickers move

Live stickers are a bit more versatile than traditional GIFs. Live Stickers are more dynamic and can be placed on top of other things whereas as a GIF is a much more rigid sequence of images. If you make a bank of live Stickers, you can do quite a lot with them.

10. Separate your Safari tabs to switch off from work

Like Google Chrome's profile system, individual Safari Profiles have their own settings, history, and more. This means that if you do work from your phone, you can split your work and home Safari apart to fully separate the two.

11. Look after your eyes

Most of us look at our phones from an unhealthy distance that can cause eye problems and headaches with extended use. In iOS 17 you can set up Vision Health to make sure you're never too close to that beautiful OLED display.

12. Better music on your roadtrips

SharePlay now works with CarPlay which means everyone on the roadtrip gets to have a say in the music blasting through your car speakers. No longer will you be stuck in the back of a hot car listening to music you can't stand. Roadtrips just got better!

13. Avoid sensitive content

Worried about the content on your child's iPhone or are you worried about images sent in group chats? You can now blur sensitive content and make sure you never get blindsided by those disgusting images again.

14. Find that tasty recipe

Visual Look Up on iOS 17 is even better and allows you to find recipes to match a picture of that delicious meal you had on the weekend. You won't get the exact recipe but your iPhone will determine meals based on the ingredients it spots in your photo. Perfect for the foodies out there!

15. Read articles with Siri

Siri is much smarter in iOS 17 and can now do lots more like no longer need to be told "Hey." The best trick, however, is using Siri to read full articles in Safari for the times you just want to go hands free.

16. Actually useful widgets

Widgets are now completely interactive in iOS 17, which means you can complete that to-do list without opening Things 3 or phone your partner without opening the Phone app. Interactive Widgets are incredibly useful and will make you want to use your widgets instead of opting for a boring widget-less Home Screen.

17. Get an AI version of your own voice

Ever wanted to hear your own voice speak back to you? Well, Personal Voice is a fascinating iOS 17 feature that allows you to create an AI version of your own natural voice. It's meant for people who are struggling with their voices to make sure they never lose the ability to speak, but anyone can use it, and it's pretty neat.

18. Reply easier than ever before to messages

iOS 17 finally introduces Swipe To Reply to the iPhone Messages app and it's going to make your life that much easier. No longer do you need to tap and hold to reply to a message. It's fast and easy to use and luckily for any WhatsApp users it'll feel right at home.

19. Never get lost without internet again

Offline maps are here and they are fantastic for all those times your iPhone struggles for signal or when you're abroad and don't have cellular connection. Easily pick an area and download the map directly to Apple Maps so you don't get lost again.

20. Finally experience organized grocery shopping

Do you struggle to keep on top of grocery shopping? Do you hate making grocery lists? iOS 17 and the update to the Reminders app has you covered. Now, in Reminders, you can categorize shopping lists automatically just by adding an item to the list — simple and effective.

Plenty more where that came from

These iOS 17 tips and tricks are sure to make using your iPhone on the latest operating system that much easier. We'll continuously update this article with new how to guides and tips to get the most from your iPhone on iOS 17 so make sure to bookmark this page and return regularly for your iOS 17 tips and tricks fix.

If you haven't already, I recommend restarting your iPad. Restarting can resolve many unexpected behaviors.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists, reinstall iOS with iTunes to address possible software issues. When reinstalling iOS, iTunes will completely remove your current software and install a fresh version. While iTunes will try to do this without removing data, it's a good idea to make sure you have a recent backup before trying this step.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Use the steps in the following link to reinstall iOS with iTunes

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

How To Get Rid of Ghost Touch on iPhone

Jacob Hicks

You can attempt to stop the ghost touch on your device by restarting or resetting your device. A software update for your iOS can also solve the problem. Finally, relieving your phone from contaminants that interfere with the touch screen also works.

Are you having ghost touch on your iPhone and want to get rid of it? If Yes, we are here with the best possible solutions. This article will enable you to learn how to get rid of ghost touch on iPhone.

Follow the step-by-step guide to repair your iPhone from ghost touch. Before starting, it is essential to learn what exactly is a ghost touch. Let us find out!

Method #6: Reset the iPhone

What is ghost touch on an iphone.

One of the disturbing things with the iPhone is the ghost touch . But what is it?

Ghost touch is when your device works automatically without you touching it . The iPhone screen reacts with automatic hints, and everything opens and operates without your manual contact or commands.

Now, it is time to learn how to help you get rid of ghost touch on iPhones.

There are several causes of ghost touch on iPhones. Different things like dirt, liquid, tight case, and screen protector can affect the iPhone screen.

In addition, some software issues can also be the reason for ghost touch. Other than that, hardware issues can be the cause of ghost touch.

However, do not worry; we have got you covered. Let’s get rid of ghost touch on your iPhone with the following tips.

Method #1: Clean the Screen

Touch phones rely on their screen. So it’s essential to keep the screen of your iPhone clean and working.

The screen can have dust on it. It would be best to turn off the screen and clean it with a soft cloth. If you find dry spots of liquid on the screen, clean it thoroughly and with great care. Use a soft cloth for better results.

1. Turn off the screen if dust is the reason for the ghost touch. 2. Turn off the iPhone/device if you are cleaning it with a wet cloth. 3. Don’t use soapy water because it can damage the special coating of the screen.

Method #2: Remove the Case

The second cause of ghost touch on the iPhone may be a tightly fitted case . A tight-fit mobile case affects the screen and functionality of the iPhone.

To remove the ghost touch on the iPhone, remove the mobile case and see whether the issue of ghost touch stops. If the issue persists, move on to the next method.

Method #3: Remove the Screen Protector

Another cause for ghost touch in iPhones is the screen protector . These protectors sometimes create issues like intuitive touch.

To fix the ghost touch on your iPhone, remove the screen protector carefully .

You can use your fingernail to pull one corner of the screen protector. Peel it out with great care. Clean the screen with a soft cloth and check if the problem is fixed by it or not.

Don’t be too quick while peeling off the screen protector. You may injure yourself as they are made up of glass.

Method #4: Restart the Device

Software issues can also create a ghost touch problem on iPhones. To solve the problem, restart your device/iPhone .

However, if a restart does not resolve the issue, move on to the next mentioned discussed below.

Method #5: Update the Operating System

You can fix ghost touch by updating the iOS system.

Follow the steps to update the operating system on your iPhone.

  • Go to the “Settings” on your iPhone.
  • Tap on “General” from the list.
  • The “Software Update” option will appear at the top. Tap on it.
  • You’ll see if a software update is available. If there is any, tap on the “Install Now” or “Download and Install” option.

Resetting the iPhone is another solution to get rid of the ghost touch on the iPhone. With a factory reset, you’ll lose all your data.

Before resetting your device, back it up to save your data.

For reset, follow the steps given below:

  • Open “Settings” on your iPhone.
  • Tap on “General.”
  • Tap on “Reset.”
  • Enter your password .
  • Once you have entered the password, “Erase All Content and Settings” will appear. Tap on that and reset your device.

Ghost touch on iPhones is a severe issue for the users. We have provided you with the best possible solutions to get rid of ghost touch on your iPhone.

You can get your device working again with its full functionality by applying these well-tested and proven methods. However, sometimes the problem does not go away. If that’s the case and your iPhone still has these hardware issues, you must contact Apple Support .

But, in most cases, the given solutions will get your device back and working again without the ghost touch.

5 exclusive iPhone 15 features you need to know — and how to use them

New tech, new features

5 iPhone 15 features you need to know about

When spending so much money on a new device, you’ll want to make the most of it, so discovering 5 iPhone 15 features you need to know about should help take you to the next level. Most of the features will work on an iPhone 15 while others will only be possible on an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max . Each one will prove useful, however, and help to justify the upgrade.

Of course, there are many more head-turning features, some of which are also available on older models thanks to the availability of iOS 17. You should certainly learn how to download and install iOS 17 if you haven’t already done so. But Apple’s flagship device really comes into its own with the greater power of the iPhone 15 range and the addition of new hardware functions.

So let’s take a look at 5 iPhone 15 features you need to know about.

5 iPhone 15 features you need to know about

You must have an iPhone 15 or later in order to benefit from these entries.

1. Customize the Action button

For those with an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max , the new Action button is arguably the most exciting new feature. It replaces the ringer switch present on other models and it allows you to assign one of a wide range of functions. This function is then activated when you long press the Action button, meaning useful features can be just a fingertip away.

Check out the 25 coolest ways to use the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button and you’ll see what we mean. As well as being able to make use of one of Apple’s suggestions such as being able to press the button to activate the camera, launch the torch, record a voice memo and more, you can also assign an Accessibility function such as playing a background sound to help you concentrate. Best of all, you can make use of Shortcuts which makes the possibilities endless.

To start playing around with the Action button, tap Settings and select Action Button then swipe through the options .

2. Switch default camera lenses

Again, a feature for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max owners, the ability to customize the Main camera lens is super-useful. It allows you to set the focal length so you’re not always needing to zoom in when open the Camera app and get ready to take a shot. Instead of using the default 24mm lens – equivalent to 1x zoom – you can instead choose 28mm (1.2x) or 35mm (1.5x).

To do this, go to Settings and select Camera then tap Main Camera and choose a format : either 24mm, 28mm or 35mm. When you then open the Camera app , the lens you chose will be the default. You will still be able to adjust the camera lens within the app.

3. Limit your battery to 80%

You’ve spent a lot of money on your iPhone so it’s reasonable to want to take good care of it. This extends to making sure the battery lasts as long as possible before needing to be replaced and, with any of the iPhone 15 range, you can limit your device to 80% charge. It means your lithium-ion battery is less likely to become worn or overheat.

Knowing how to limit your iPhone to 80 percent charge is easy enough. Open the Settings app and select Battery . Then choose Battery Health & Charging and tap Charging Optimization and select 80% Limit .

4. The addition of video log files

If you want to shoot professional videos, using a log profile will give you more flexibility and control. It increases the dynamic range that a camera sensor can record by squeezing more luminance data into a file through compression. And while you will need to carry out post-production work to correct the color and exposure, you will find your videos are more detailed.

You can discover more about how to shoot video in a log profile on an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max but to set it up, go to Settings , tap Camera , select Formats and turn on Apple Pro Res . Then tap ProRes Encoding and select Log .

5. Reverse charging for smaller devices

The Lightning Cable is dead. Long live USB-C. But why the love for the latter – a move that was forced upon Apple by the European Union to reduce cable wastage? Well, with a USB-C to USB-C cable, you can use your iPhone 15 to charge your Apple Watch or your AirPods case since USB-C is capable of supporting up to 240W of charging power.

The USB-C port also increases transfer speeds which is great for sending large files between two iPhones, for example (the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max supports USB 3.0 which offers 10Gbps speeds). In all cases, you just need to plug in your devices using the cable. Check out everything you need to know about the iPhone 15 USB-C port to discover more.

And there you go: 5 iPhone 15 features you need to know about. But there are other things you can check out such as 9 iOS 17 features to try and how to crop photos with just a pinch . You can also discover how to speed up haptic touch duration on iPhone and learn more about the iPhone 15 Dynamic Island , a feature first introduced in the more expensive iPhone 14 models.

13 Quick Tips to Fix iPhone Ghost Touch Issue in iOS 16

“ My iPhone X keeps acting like I’m pressing buttons when I’m not. It’s been going on for a couple of weeks and I thought resetting my iPhone would help but it hasn’t. What should I do? ”

In some instances, the iPhone screen acts as if it’s been touched, opens apps or makes calls by itself – this strange phenomenon is often referred to as “Ghost Touch”. Till now, a growing number of people have complained about the iPhone X ghost touch issues on Apple’s discussion forums.

Which iPhones Are Affected by the Ghost Touch Issue?

This ghost touch issue commonly affects iPhone X devices. Apple even admitted in 2018 that there were problems with the iPhone X’s touchscreen and provided free repairs to affected customers.

Actually, the ghost touch problem not only affects the iPhone X, but also other iPhone models like iPhone 14/13/12/11, iPhone XS/XS Max/XR, iPhone 8/7/6s/6, etc. If this occurs to you, don’t worry, keep reading this guide to learn some possible causes of iPhone ghost touch and a few tips to fix this issue in iOS 16/15.

Part 1. What Causes Ghost Touch on iPhone?

Part 2. best way to fix iphone ghost touch without data loss, 3.1 clean your iphone touchscreen, 3.2 take off iphone screen protector, 3.3 remove your iphone’s case, 3.4 disconnect third-party charger and accessories, 3.5 restart your iphone, 3.6 check your accessibility settings.

4.2 Reset All Settings on Your iPhone

4.3 factory reset your iphone, 4.4 update to the latest ios 16.

4.6 Get iPhone X Screen Fixed by Apple

Several things can cause this problem, and understanding the main cause can help you determine the best solution to implement. The following are some of the main causes of the iPhone ghost touch issue.

1. Wet or Dirty Touchscreen

Your iPhone’s screen detects even the slightest of touches due to changes in the electrical field on and around the screen. This electrical field can be triggered when significant dirt on the screen, resulting in a ghost touch that the apps may detect on the device.

This is why the ghost touch issue is often visible if you use your iPhone with wet hands or when there is significant dried residue on the screen.

2. An ill-fitting iPhone Case

Sometimes the problem could also be the iPhone case that you are using. If the case is too tight, it can touch some sections of the screen resulting in the ghost touch.

This problem can also be present if the phone case is made of hard materials that squeeze on the iPhone, causing it to bend. The warping effect created by this bend can cause issues with the touch panel resulting in ghost touches.

An ill-fitting case can also cause temperature issues with the device, particularly causing the temperature to rise. This heated-up environment can, in turn, interfere with the iPhone’s touchscreen causing the ghost touch problem.

3. Screen Protectors

The screen protector you are using can also cause this issue if debris is stuck between the screen and the protector. Maybe some dust got trapped between the screen and the protector when you were applying the protector. The same ghost issue may also happen if the screen protector is not properly placed on the device.

4. Software Issues

It is also possible that problems with the iPhone’s software could be the main cause. If minor issues cause the ghost touch, simply restarting the device can fix the system errors and therefore fix the ghost touch issue. If the underlying system errors are more severe, you may need to update or restore the device to fix them.

5. iPhone Hardware Issues

But perhaps the most prevalent cause of the ghost touch issue is if there is physical damage to the screen itself. This can happen if you dropdrop the device or the iPhone has suffered liquid damage. In this case, the best solution is to make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have the technicians look at the device.

If your iPhone is suffering from ghost touch screen and you think that this phenomenon is a result of software errors, you can depend on third-party iOS repair tool to fix the issue. Here Fucosoft iOS System Recovery (iOS 16 supported) is strongly recommend.

It is a powerful program with easy-to-use interface, which helps you fix many common iOS system issues including ghost touch on your iPhone X, iPhone XS/XR, iPhone 11/11 Pro, iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, etc. Also, it is capable of solving iPhone Touch ID not working , iPhone stuck in Recovery mode , DFU mode, Apple logo, iPhone is disable connect to iTunes , restart loops, freezing issue, and so on without data loss.

Part 3. Several Quick Fixes for iPhone Ghost Touch

Sometimes the screen has debris or dust on it that causes the iPhone X ghost touch problem. So a simple fix you should try is to clean your iPhone’s touchscreen.

Please turn your iPhone off and unplug any connected cables before start cleaning it. Then use a soft and clean cloth with alcohol to gently wipe your device’s screen from one end to the other.

Also you can take a small piece of tissue paper (fold it several times) and a wooden toothpick. Use the folded tissue paper and toothpick to clean the small gap between the iPhone’s glass screen and body.

Many iPhone users choose to attach a screen protector to protect the screen from scratches. Sometimes, the screen protector may disrupt how the touchscreen operates and cause issues like iPhone ghost touch.

In this case, you can easily fix the issue by removing your iPhone’s screen protector. Please do it carefully and slowly. If the protector is damaged, you’d better take your phone to a repair shop or Apple to remove it without harming the device.

Just like screen protectors, your iPhone’s case might also case ghost touch screen and make your device perform actions automatically.

And you can easily solve this problem by removing the attached case from your iPhone. After that, your your iPhone should work normally.

If you are using iPhone charging accessories that are not Apple certified, including any charging cables, headphone jack converters, or any other battery charging cases, disconnecting them from the device may fix this issue. These charging accessories have been known to cause the screen to move when connected, resulting in the ghost touch issue.

If you find that the problem is the charging cable you are using, you may also want to connect the charger to a different outlet or use your computer if you use a wall outlet.

If you are still facing the ghost touch screen on your iPhone after trying the above fixes, you can try to restart your iPhone. Restarting your iPhone can help to fix most minor glitches that cause your device malfunction such as ghost touch. The steps to restart iPhone varies depending on the models you have:

  • For iPhone X or later : Hold the Side button and either Volume button until “slide to power off” appears. Swipe the slider to the right to power off the device. After that, hold the Side button to restart the iPhone.
  • For iPhone 8 or earlier : Hold the Top/Side button until “slide to power off” appears. Swipe the slide to turn off the device. After that, hold the Top/Side button again until you see the Apple logo.

restart iphone

The Accessibility settings on your iPhone can significantly affect the way your device responds to touch. You may experience this problem if you change any of these settings, including the AssistiveTouch, Touch Accommodations, and many other settings. Do the following to check;

  • Open the Settings app on the iPhone and go to Accessibility > Touch.
  • Check if AssistiveTouch is enabled. If it is, tap on the toggle next to it to disable it.
  • You may also have issues with the touchscreen if “Touch Accommodations” is enabled. If it is, toggle the switch next to it to turn it off.
  • You should also ensure that “Back Tap” is not enabled to prevent double or triple taps when using the volume keys or activate Siri. Tap on the “Back Tap” setting and choose “None” for both options.
  • Finally, tap on “Haptic Touch” to see if the period you have to wait before your touchscreen registers a touch is too slow or fast.

Part 4. Other Possible Solutions to Fix iPhone Ghost Touch

4.1 force restart your iphone.

It is possible that restarting your iPhone could not remove the glitch that cause the ghost touch issue. In this situation, force restarting your iPhone is also a worth trying solution. This will clear all temporary memory of your iPhone and gives the device a fresh start, then fix the ghost touch screen. Follow these simple steps:

  • For iPhone 8 or later devices : Press and quickly release the Volume Up button > Press and quickly release the Volume Down button > Hold down the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • For iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus : Hold down the Volume Down button and the Power button > Release both buttons until you see the Apple logo.
  • For iPhone 6 or earlier devices : Hold down the Power button and the Home button > Release the both buttons until you see the Apple logo.

put iphone in recovery mode

Another step in troubleshooting the ghost touch phenomenon is to reset all settings on your iPhone X. To do this: go to Settings > General > Reset and select “Reset All Settings”.

You will be required to enter your screen passcode to confirm the action. Then all the settings on your iPhone will be revert to the default settings.

reset all settings iphone

Only the system settings will be reset. You won’t lose any files, data or apps.

For most people, simply force restarting the iPhone or resetting all settings will do the trick. But if you are one of the unlucky dogs still experiencing iPhone X ghost touch issues after trying the above solutions, you can perform a factory reset on your iPhone.

But it’s worth mentioning that a factory reset will totally erase all the contents from your iPhone. So we suggest you first back up your iPhone before following the steps below:

  • On your iPhone, go to Settings and tap on “General”.
  • Scroll down to the bottom and tap “Reset”, then choose “Erase All Content and Settings”.
  • Tap “Backup Then Erase” or “Erase Now” to restore your iPhone to its original factory state.

erase all content settings iphone

Factory resetting iPhone will help to solve most software problems, but if that doesn’t stop the iPhone X ghost touch problem, you can try updating your iPhone to the latest iOS 16. This is a good way of resolving any software bugs that might cause ghost touch. Here’s how to do it wirelessly:

  • Plug your iPhone into a power and connect it to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Open Settings > choose “General” > click on “Software Update”.
  • Tap “Download and Install”. If you have already downloaded the update, tap “Install Now”.

update ios wirelessly

If you can’t find the update on your iPhone, you can update to iOS 16 manually using iTunes or Finder on your computer.

4.5 Reinstall iOS Using Recovery Mode

Reinstalling the iOS in recovery mode is one of the best ways to fix this problem if a software problem causes this ghost touch issue. To use this solution, enter recovery mode on your iPhone and connect it to the computer and when iTunes/Finder gives you the option, choose “Update” and follow the instructions to complete the process.

If recovery mode cannot fix the device, try entering DFU mode, which is the deepest form of restore that you can try and will fix even the most problematic iOS issues. Both recovery and DFU modes will cause data loss, so be sure to back up your device before attempting either.

If the above solutions don’t help, don’t worry, Apple is ready to fix your problem for free. Recently, Apple recognized the iPhone X’s screen issue on its support page and now offers a free display repair service for those who experience the problem.

You can either make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider to get your iPhone X ghost touch issue fixed. Before that, make sure to backup your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud, or using third-party tool like Fucosoft iOS Data Backup & Restore .

This iPhone Lock Screen trick will help stop you from giving anyone your phone while it’s unlocked

how do i get ghost on my iphone

I hate giving my iPhone to strangers asking to scan a digital ticket with the screen unlocked. Yes, it’s incredibly easy to pull up a barcode or QR code on the screen so you can prove you have a valid ticket, loyalty program membership, or discount. And it’s very easy to add most of these digital tickets to Apple Wallet. In fact, you should do that whenever you can.

There will be instances where you won’t perform the scan yourself. In such cases, you’ll have to unlock the iPhone, open the app that contains the digital ticket, and show or hand your phone to the person in front of you. Now, I know the person handling my iPhone has better things to do than swipe up and snoop on my texts and photos. But it’s the principle of the thing.

The iPhone’s security is only as good as the Lock Screen password. And who knows what else can happen in a crowded place with people waiting for their tickets to be scanned?

But the iPhone’s Lock Screen offers a brilliant solution. I can set temporary wallpapers that display whatever digital ticket I might have to show to gain entry to an event or place. And I’ll never unlock the iPhone when handing it over to others to have a ticket scanned.

It’s incredibly easy to set up, and it’s an easy way to have all your digital tickets and subscriptions ready, whether they support Apple Wallet or not.

The problem with Apple Wallet

I mentioned Apple Wallet a few times, which is the place to store your credit cards, digital keys, and tickets. But to access its contents, you’d still have to authenticate via Face ID, Touch ID, or your PIN. This unlocks the screen.

Also, not all apps might support Apple Wallet. Or you might not be using Apple Wallet to begin with. Maybe you’re using a code you photographed in real life. In such scenarios, you won’t be able to add your digital tickets to Apple Wallet.

I’ll also point out that you can use both the Apple Wallet and the Lock Screen trick at the same time.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Always-On Display Lock Screen

The Lock Screen solution

Last year, Apple introduced Lock Screen customizations with iOS 16. Tap and hold on your iPhone’s screen, and you’ll be able to change the wallpaper of both the Lock and Home screens, add widgets, and change fonts. Overall, I’m not a fan of the whole widgets thing. I maintain a clean Lock Screen that only displays the date and time and the Flashlight and Camera buttons.

But I do use the Lock Screen customization feature to change wallpapers. I recently showed you how to find kaleidoscope wallpapers in iOS 17 , and the Lock Screen is a way to start.

I figured out at some point after the iOS 16 upgrade that I could use the Lock Screen customization support to set up as many wallpapers as I wanted and then just switch between them. It took me a while to figure out that I could actually set up functional wallpapers.

That is, screenshots of the digital ticket that I would need to show to those checking for it in places where I know the only way to do it is to hand those people the handset.

How to have digital tickets show up on the Lock Screen

Longtime iPhone users like myself must have realized how the whole thing works by now. But if you still don’t know how to pull it off, I’ll describe the steps below. It’s all very easy and takes only a few seconds to set up.

First, go to the app that shows the digital ticket. Maybe it’s an email or an app for an airline (again, Apple Wallet is an alternative). Or a ticket to a concert. Perhaps you use a loyalty card frequently, so you have to scan it often. Whatever it is, find the barcode or QR code and take a screenshot .

You can crop the code if there’s a lot of stuff in the screenshot you don’t need. I usually take a few seconds to crop the image for the next step.

Next, go to the Lock Screen, tap and hold on it until the wallpaper carrousel pops into view. Next, tap on Add New and then go to Photos to select the screenshot you’ve saved seconds before. It’ll be the last image you’ve saved, the screenshot of the digital ticket.

Now comes the tricky part. Whether you’ve cropped the digital ticket in the screenshot or not, you’ll have to fit it on the Lock Screen. That means some cropping will follow as you’ll want to ensure that the code isn’t covered with any other elements, like screen widgets, the clock, or the Flashlight and Camera buttons.

iPhone Lock Screen showing a digital ticket.

As you can see in my redacted example above, I squeezed a QR code and a membership number right between the Flashlight and Camera buttons. I could also rock widgets, which would not overlap with the code.

Once you’ve figured out the position of the digital ticket, save the wallpaper. That’s it. You’re now ready to have your ticket scanned.

Next time you have to give the phone to someone else to check the ticket, just hand them the handset without unlocking it. That would defeat the whole purpose. Tell them to tap the screen, and the ticket will come into view. Tell them to keep tapping the screen if they need more time. The screen will turn off quickly when the handset is locked.

Once you’re done, simply switch back to the wallpaper that you actually want to use.

You can rinse and repeat for any type of digital ticket/membership you routinely have to show around. You can save as many Lock Screens as you want, so they cover all your memberships. Also, you should delete Lock Screens once the digital tickets showing on them are no longer valid.
