Limited-edition Rolls-Royce Ghost gets solar eclipse inspiration

The latest limited-edition Rolls Royce is the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, a car that features design elements inspired by solar eclipses.
Fittingly, it was unveiled ahead of the annular solar eclipse visible in parts of the Western Hempishere on Oct.14.
The Ékleipsis Private Collection is based on the Ghost Black Badge , the dark-themed version of Rolls' smaller sedan. It adds a splash of Lyrical Copper paint that recalls a solar eclipse, in which the moon passes in front of the sun, temporarily obscuring it. The paint color is made with copper pigment that produces an iridescent finish under direct light. Another bright color—Mandarin (orange)—is used for the grille inserts, brake calipers, and a side pinstripe.
Inside, the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection features a unique version of Rolls-Royce's Starlight Headliner, the system that uses integrated lighting elements to create an image of the night sky in the headliner. Here, a sequence replicates a solar eclipse. Lighting elements darken when the rear doors are closed and the engine is started, then form a circle of 940 individual lights representing the outline of the sun behind the moon, with an additional 192 "stars" behind it.

Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection
The animation lasts exactly seven minutes and 31 seconds—the longest possible duration of a solar eclipse—and took a year to develop, according to Rolls-Royce. Once the sequence is completed, the headliner shows a full night sky.
The dashboard fascia also features 1,846 laser-etched "stars" showing the timeline of a solar eclipse. The design takes 100 hours to complete, with a single designer overseeing the placement of each star.
A dashboard clock incorporates a half-carat diamond. It's the first time any gemstone has been integrated with a Rolls-Royce dashboard clock, and to make sure the diamond stayed in place, the assembly was tested in a climatic cycle that went from -22 degrees Fahrenheit to 194 degrees Fahrenheit.

A solar eclipse also creates the effect of a 360-degree sunset, something Rolls-Royce tried to capture in two-tone perforated leather upholstery. Over 20,000 individual perforations reveal orange spots beneath the black leather seats. Umbrellas hidden in the doors also have orange piping.
Black Badge models get the same twin-turbocharged 6.8-liter V-12 as the standard Ghost , but producing 592 hp, compared to 563 hp for the standard car. Power is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rolls says Black Badge models will do 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
All Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection cars have been spoken for, but it's likely only a matter of time until Rolls-Royce launches another limited-edition collection.

Demand for Rolls-Royce's Black Badge models has been high, so the brand is going further down this dimly-lit avenue with a limited-edition version of the Ghost called Ékleipsis Private Collection. The sedan features several specific astrology-inspired styling cues inside and out.
As its name implies, the Ékleipsis is a tribute to the eclipse (the one that you see in the sky, not the one built by Mitsubishi ). It's based on the Ghost Black Badge, but it's finished in a special color called Lyrical Copper that captures "the mysterious, ethereal light cast by a total solar eclipse," according to Rolls-Royce's design team. Mandarin exterior accents on the body and the brake calipers add a touch of contrast to the look, and the thin line that stretches from the front part of the fenders to the rear part of the quarter panels is applied entirely by hand.
Inside, the Ékleipsis features Rolls-Royce's signature Starlight headliner with a special animation that mimics an eclipse. When the doors close and the engine starts, the stars in the headliner darken and a specific sequence plays to replicate a full solar eclipse. We'll save you the trouble of counting them: The circle that appears consists of 940 "stars" while the background includes an additional 192 "stars." This lasts for seven minutes and 31 seconds, the longest duration of a total solar eclipse, and the standard Starlight headliner returns at the end.
Fine-tuning this feature was easier said than done. Rolls-Royce spent a year on it, and it built three complete prototypes to perfect it.
Rolls-Royce didn't stop there. The dashboard gains an analog clock whose bezel incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond. Surprisingly, this is the first time that the company has integrated a gemstone into the clock's bezel. The passengers sit on two-tone leather-upholstered seats with over 200,000 perforations, and the list of standard features includes umbrellas with Mandarin piping as well as a car cover .
Production of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection is limited to 25 units globally. Pricing information hasn't been announced, but it's of little interest to us because the model was sold-out before its public unveiling. Besides, if you need to ask ...

Looks can be deceiving. A quick glance at the new Rolls-Royce Ghost as it wafts oh-so-serenely by, and you might be hard-pressed to distinguish it from the outgoing model. Yet only two components have been carried over—an umbrella and that hood-mounted, gossamer-winged flying lady known as the Spirit of Ecstasy. In fact, the car has undergone such a transformation that it earned the title of Robb Report Luxury Car of the Year for 2021 .
Beneath the relatively familiar exterior, however, lies a car enhanced by a multitude of landmark improvements. Everything from a new, lighter, all-aluminum spaceframe architecture to all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering to a redesigned suspension that enhances that “magic carpet” ride. Oh, and the new Ghost also reflects a single-minded focus on delivering almost-mystical levels of silence.

Talking of architecture, the 2021 model year Ghost is now built on the same aluminum spaceframe “Architecture of Luxury” platform first used on the eighth-generation Phantom and passed on to the Cullinan SUV. It allows the Ghost’s suspension assemblies to be pushed to the very front of the car so that the vehicle’s still-potent 6.75-liter V-12 can sit behind the front axle, achieving an optimum 50/50 weight balance for athletic handling.
The importance of the new Ghost to Rolls can’t be overstated. Since the arrival of the original version in 2009, it has become the most successful model in the marque’s 116-year history, attracting younger buyers looking for a slightly smaller, more driver-focused, yet still exquisitely built and luxuriously equipped car. With its new emphasis on more substance and less “bling”—Rolls-Royce calls the trend “post opulence”—the Ghost’s continued appeal and sales success are guaranteed.
A New Exterior
Look no further than that stately, instantly recognizable Pantheon grille to see the subtlety of the Ghost’s visual evolution—and the insane attention to detail that has gone into this new offering. To showcase the grille, 20 LED lights are set beneath the top to shine down on the stainless-steel vanes. But illuminating polished stainless created rather too showy a display, so the backs of the metal blades were sandblasted to give a softer, ethereal glow.
More impressive still is the construction of that all-new aluminum body to reduce shut lines, the unsightly gaps where body panels butt-up to one another, like around the doors, between the hood and grille and around the trunk. With this iteration of Ghost, Rolls-Royce went on a mission to eradicate as many shut lines as possible and reduce panel gaps to a hair’s width. To create the larger panels, a quartet of artisanal welders work in symphony to deliver one continuous seam.

Another example of obsessive attention to detail is found in that fabled Sprit of Ecstasy hood ornament. Previously, she rose out of a separate frame around the grille. Now she levitates out of the hood itself for a cleaner, more elegant look.

Dimensionally, this Ghost expands on the past. Overall length is stretched by 3.5 inches and width by 1.1 inches, while an extra inch has been added to the height. The increased measurements give the car greater visual gravitas and further bolster its planted stance.
An Interior Like No Other
As you would imagine, the cabin of this new Ghost is a remarkable place to be, and an overpowering part of the car’s enduring appeal. The fit, finish and artisanship are unparalleled.
Take the section of fascia in front of the passenger. It comes with 152 LED lights connected to 90,000 laser-etched dots to create a galaxy of stars around the Ghost logo, complementing the automobile’s twinkling Starlight Headliner.

And in keeping with the post-opulence ethos, the car’s leatherwork on the seats and doors is refreshingly devoid of busy detailing and superficial embellishment. That means no diamond-quilting or fussy contrast-color stitching. Even the woodwork is more understated, with a move to softer, open-pore veneers. That said, the marque’s Bespoke department will happily add as much customization as a buyer desires.
The Ghost’s audio system also reveals the exacting standard of refinement that has gone into the overall redesign. The 18-speaker, 1,300-watt configuration incorporates a resonance chamber in the sill sections of the body to act like huge subwoofers. In addition, high-precision magnesium-ceramic speakers, along with “exciter” speakers, allow infinitesimal changes in sound. The acoustic quality is surreal.

Feeling a little germophobic in these days of Covid-19? There is a Micro-Environment Purification System that channels all cabin air through a nanofleece filter, which is capable of removing pretty much all ultra-fine particles from the interior in less than two minutes. And if it senses a drop in exterior air quality—perhaps an odorous 18-wheeler alongside—it automatically switches to recirculation mode.
And when it’s time to exit this rolling temple of tranquility, there’s no need to push open those bank vault–like doors. A couple of gentle tugs on a chrome-plated handle will gently power the doors outwards. Press a button, and they automatically close as well.

A Whisper-Quiet Ride
Rolls-Royce once claimed that, at 60 mph, the loudest sound you heard in one of its cars was the ticking of the electric clock. Now, the loudest sound you’ll hear won’t be a clock—it went digital years ago—but a whisper.
Seems that during the six-year development of the car, engineers managed to achieve close to the impossible—a cabin that was almost completely silent. No engine noise. No wind noise. No tire roar.
Yet when a group of owners was asked to experience the quiet interior, they were less than enthusiastic. It seems they found it too disorientating, too, well, ghostly, almost like wearing noise-cancelling headphones while driving. The solution? To give the cabin the slightest sonic accent.
Achieving this whisper required pretty much every component to be acoustically tuned, from seat frames to the trunk space to the inside of air-conditioning ducts. That, and adding over 200 pounds of sound-deadening materials in the doors, roof and even inside the tires. Double-skin bulkhead and floor sections were also created, along with double-glazed windows. While Rolls-Royce would never admit that this new Ghost is actually quieter than the flagship Phantom, we reckon it is.
The Engine: Power, and Plenty of It
Why change a good thing? That was Rolls’ thinking in regards to its 6.75-liter twin-turbo V-12. As before, the engine delivers 563 hp and 627 ft lbs of torque. Subtle changes to the engine mapping means that max torque is now available from just 1,600 rpm, which is only 600 rpm above tickover. But now, the eight-speed automatic transmission delivers that mechanical muscle to all four wheels, instead of just the rear ones. If there’s need to escape the prying lenses of the paparazzi, a firm squeeze of the throttle will thrust you from standstill to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The Drive Experience
If about to confront a Detroit-style pothole looming fast, don’t expect a ker-thump as a wheel drops into it, or feel any thudder-judder in the steering. Spookily, there will most likely be nothing. When sitting behind the wheel, you will not be bothered by, or even aware of, minor irritations like blacktop lumps and bumps.
To achieve this astonishingly smooth ride, the Ghost features a new suspension design that Rolls calls its Planar Suspension System. What those engineers at Goodwood have created is being touted as the world’s first double-damper suspension. It works on the premise that if the main damper doesn’t totally absorb the shock, there’s a second one to sweep up.

The 5,730-pound car accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Photo by James Lipman, courtesy of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited.
But that’s only part of the magic. Combined with the automaker’s existing Flagbearer system, the result is otherworldly. Flagbearer involves cameras that scan every inch of the road ahead. When they detect an upcoming surface irregularity, quick notification is sent to the Planer suspension, preparing it for the upcoming impediment. The system works seamlessly with the car’s double wishbone suspension at the front, multi-link set-up at the rear, air springs all round and adaptive dampers, delivering a sensation akin to floating.
In addition, GPS data is used to pre-select the optimum gear for every upcoming twist, turn and incline, to enhance the smoothness of the power delivery. Yet despite this emphasis on gentility, the all-wheel drive and precise, nicely weighted steering help give the Ghost a feeling of real agility, while the addition of rear-wheel-steering adds nimbleness at speed and tighter turning in town.
Talking of speed, with all of that torque on tap, the 5,730-pound Rolls will surge off the line with biz-jet-like thrust and cruise up to a limited top speed of 155 mph with uncanny ease.
The Price of Perfection
Trust us, no one sticks with the base price when buying a Ghost. The MSRP of $332,500 is the starting point before most buyers tailor to taste. Colors, trim, wheels, monograms, pin-stripes, tread-plates; you name it. Our test car came in at $428,250.
And now there’s the option of the Ghost Extended, starting at $380,000, with 6.7 inches added to the wheelbase for even greater stretch-out space in the back. Options also include a reclining, aircraft-style Serenity Seat and rear-seat Champagne chiller, of course. We’re sure that soon to follow will be the inevitable Black Badge Ghost. After all, it’s the next logical step in luxury for what’s arguably the best Rolls-Royce ever built.

2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost

2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost Review

- Luxury only a Rolls-Royce can offer
- Supple ride at all speeds
- Ample thrust from 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12
- Infinitely customizable
- Interior doesn't offer quite the space you'd expect of a large car
- Prohibitively expensive
What's new
- The Ghost is unchanged for 2023
- Part of the second Ghost generation introduced for 2021
The 2023 Ghost serves as the entry point into the Rolls-Royce brand. Smaller in size and more contemporary in design than the legendary Phantom, the Ghost is aimed at a younger, though still fabulously wealthy, clientele. The Ghost offers insane levels of craftsmanship and customization possibilities befitting a Rolls-Royce. It can also be had in a more sporting model, the Black Badge version, and is offered with an extended-wheelbase version for increased rear passenger legroom.
Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost 4dr Sedan AWD (6.7L 12cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.39 per gallon for premium unleaded in North Dakota.
Edmunds' spotlight: luxury and power.
Any fear of the Ghost being anything other than a full-blooded Rolls-Royce should be laid to rest. The 2023 Ghost can be customized to your heart's content (or your bank account's balance) with all manner of paint combinations, an endless array of leather upholstery options, and features including a stainless steel hood, plush wool carpets, wood trim and even monogrammed headrests. The Ghost doesn't skimp on power either. Under the hood is the same 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine as you find in the larger Phantom and Cullinan SUV. That means the Ghost has the same 563 horsepower (592 hp for the Black Badge model) but with less weight to slow it down.
Competitors to consider
The only other vehicle not made by Rolls-Royce that comes close to offering the traditional luxury and extent of personalization as the Ghost is the Bentley Flying Spur. If a more modern interpretation of luxury is what you're after, the BMW 760i and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are both brimming with technology and offer a slightly more low-key approach to ostentatious luxury.
Which Ghost does Edmunds recommend?
To make the most of the Ghost's smaller size (relative to other Rolls-Royce vehicles) and more dynamic styling, we'd commission ours in the Black Badge specification. That gets you additional power from the twin-turbo V12 as well as carbon composite wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, a sport-tuned suspension and a slightly louder exhaust.
Rolls-Royce Ghost models
Almost every aspect of the Ghost can be built to suit, so customization options are essentially limitless. Standard features include:

- Rear-wheel steering
- Adaptive air suspension
- 21-inch wheels
- Laser headlights
- Electronically retracting hood ornament
- Power-closing doors
- Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
- Full leather upholstery
- Heated steering wheel
- Heated and ventilated front seats with massage
- Laminated glass for extra sound and heat insulation
- Panoramic sunroof
- Adaptive cruise control
- Automated parking system (steers into a parking spot with little or no driver intervention)

- Blind-spot warning (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
- Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)

Black Badge Boosts engine output, sharpens the handling, and changes the look of the standard Ghost with:

Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. Bentley Flying Spur
Between the Rolls-Royce and the Bentley, the Flying Spur is for discerning luxury car owners who would rather drive themselves. Not that the Bentley isn't absolutely dripping in leather and decorated with hand-cut wood veneers, but the Flying Spur offers a more sporty ride and communicative steering than the Rolls. Both look perfect at home outside of a palace.
Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. Mercedes-Benz Maybach
It's not that the Maybach isn't insanely comfortable and beautifully built, but it lacks a certain je nais se quois that the Ghost has in spades. With available two-tone paint, a silky smooth V12 engine and reclining rear seats, the Maybach certainly does check many of the same boxes as the Ghost. The Maybach also offers a better technology interface but it lacks the Ghost's wild levels of customization.
Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. BMW 7 Series
The 7 Series costs about a third as much as the Ghost, but that doesn't mean it's not an extremely comfortable place to spend time. While it lacks the over-the-top luxury that comes standard in the Ghost, the 7 Series is very luxurious in its own right. Filled with modern design cues inside and out, the BMW also offers ventilated and massaging rear seats should you prefer not to do any driving. Sadly, BMW doesn't offer a V12 engine to match the Rolls but the money you save might serve as some consolation.

We are exceptionally proud to present these motor cars to 25 of our most significant clients around the world – it is these individuals who inspire greatness within our brand, and who drive us to create ever more bold and richly detailed expressions of modern luxury.” Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is delighted to present the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, inspired by the seldom-seen wonder of a solar eclipse. Harnessing the incredible forces of this celestial phenomenon, these exquisite commissions explore the captivating interplay of light and darkness, recreating the awe-inspiring moment when the Moon completely obscures the Sun. The purity of Rolls-Royce Ghost, infused with the subversive Black Badge spirit, presents the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective with the perfect canvas and limitless possibility to express the beauty of this wonder of the universe. The launch of these highly Bespoke motor cars, limited to just 25 examples, coincides with the annular solar eclipse visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere on 14 October. EXTERIOR: GOLDEN DARKNESS The mysterious, ethereal light cast by a total solar eclipse is captured in the Lyrical Copper exterior colour of the motor car. This stunning Bespoke finish incorporates powdered copper pigment, which appears darker until it catches the light when it produces a rich and dramatic iridescence. Mandarin adorns the inserts below the Pantheon Grille and brake callipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight witnessed as the eclipse progresses. The same Mandarin hue is used for the hand-painted coachline, which includes a delicate abstract representation of the transition from sunlight to darkness as the Moon approaches to cover the Sun. ANIMATED STARLIGHT HEADLINER The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis features a fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner with a special animation that, like the eclipse that inspires it, gives those inside a true sense of awe and wonder. As the coach doors close and the engine is started, the ‘stars’ in the Starlight Headliner darken and a mesmerising sequence begins, replicating the totality of the solar eclipse, when the dark silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the bright light of the Sun. A circle of 940 ‘stars’ is formed, representing the bright corona of light around the lunar silhouette. This is surrounded by a further 192 illuminating ‘stars’, recreating the otherworldly spectacle of stars visible in the sky during daylight, which occurs only during a total solar eclipse. The animation remains visible for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds – the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse. Once this time has elapsed, the full constellation of stars in the night sky is restored. This highly technical feature required a year of painstaking development, in which the Bespoke Collective produced three complete prototypes to perfect the design and sequencing of the ‘stars’. ILLUMINATED FASCIA AND ‘DIAMOND RING’ TIMEPIECE The illuminated fascia of Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is adorned with 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A single Bespoke designer had sole responsibility for adjusting the individual size and position of each ‘star’ to create the mesmeric effect; a delicate and exacting process that took over 100 hours to complete. The composition culminates in a Bespoke timepiece, which incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, recalling the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect, when a single, dazzling point of light can be seen on the Moon’s outline in the split seconds just before and immediately after it obscures the Sun. The bezel geometry has been modified to accommodate the precious gem, as this is the first time in Rolls-Royce history that a gemstone has been integrated into the clock’s bezel. The assembly underwent rigorous adhesion tests, which included climatic cell cycling from -30°C to +90°C, to ensure the diamond is robustly secured. The timepiece is finished with an etching on its dark aluminium surround, revealing the bright metal underneath. This beautiful piece of contemporary craftsmanship is the result of over 14 design iterations. PANORAMIC SUNSET INTERIOR At totality of a solar eclipse, there is a moment when a golden twilight surrounds those viewing the eclipse, giving the illusion of a 360-degree sunset. In Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis, the beauty of this rarely observed phenomenon is captured in bi-coloured seats with a unique perforated artwork, made of over 200,000 individual perforations. The bold Mandarin leather is tinted in a black shade that is then perforated to reveal the brighter contrasting colour beneath, creating a visual effect with extraordinary depth and subtlety. Using computational design tools, the Bespoke Collective developed a unique pattern, which was then manually refined over seven trials and iterations. Bespoke finishing touches include illuminated treadplates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping concealed in the coach doors, and a unique indoor motor car cover bearing the Private Collection’s wordmark. All 25 examples of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection have been allocated to clients around the world.

Rolls-Royce Ghost review

Sublime build quality, engineering integrity, phenomenal refinement, charismatic
Heavy, thirsty, it costs a quarter of a million quid
What is it?
Perhaps you’re struggling to identify this all-new Rolls-Royce Ghost from the outgoing car, but as ever, the team behind it has really sweated the details. Not that anyone at R-R does anything as unseemly as perspire, but you get our drift. Apparently the only carry-over components from the first Goodwood-era Ghost are the Spirit of Ecstasy that sits at the prow of that vast bonnet, an elegant emissary from a distant postcode, and the umbrella that nestles within the B-pillars in that faintly Q-from-James Bond gadgety manner. According to CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos, "everything else was designed, crafted and engineered from the ground up. The result is the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet. It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs and perfectly in tune with the times".
There is much to unpick here. More so even than the Phantom, this is the Rolls model that pushes the technology boundaries, introducing some cool new hardware in the search for the sweet spot that defines a car designed to be driven as much as it is to be driven in. (American and European owners tend to the former, Asian clients the latter.) Then there’s the way it looks, an evolved aesthetic that’s as restrained as any car with a grille modelled on the Parthenon could ever be. Rolls calls it ‘post-opulent’, ‘limited, intelligent, and unobtrusive’. We’d say anti-bling. More client-centric than most luxury good companies, Rolls’ ‘luxury intelligence unit’ (wot, no customer research?) has discovered that Ghost buyers don’t like dashboards festooned with a gazillion buttons, they think less is more (as long as what remains is seriously good), and they’re not snootily oblivious to a world in which a Swedish schoolgirl wields more influence than most politicians and a pandemic has ravaged the global economy. This isn’t quite luxury with a conscience, not with a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 (563bhp and 627 torques – all of which is available from just 1,600rpm) and much cosmically sumptuous leather inside to protect sensitive plutocratic behinds. But the attention to detail is mesmeric, the body’s familiar form newly reduced in terms of shutlines or anything even in the ballpark of being extraneous.
Rolls’ proprietary alumunium spaceframe underpins the Ghost, fully distancing the new car from the Munich mothership. It’s 30mm wider than the old car, a small but not insignificant amount that promotes a better stance; at 5546mm long and 2148mm wide it occupies a lot of road space (and weighs 2,490kg). Twenty LEDs hidden within the top of the grille offer subtle illumination, all the more so because the vanes have been sandblasted to reduce the ‘hall of mirrors’ effect (anti-bling, remember). Nautical allusions abound: the car’s proud snout is delineated by a bow line, the sills are helped by a ‘waft line’ which coerces reflections into doing the right thing, and the rear tapers in markedly leaving a surprising amount of rear tyre visible. (There’s also a hint of Rover 75 going on there, but that was an elegant looking car, if somewhat cheaper to buy these days than the Ghost.) The car’s hand-welded aluminium structure means that its body has a seamless flow to it, interrupted only by its windows. Well, as reductionist as this car is we can hardly do without those.
New for 2022 is a Black Badge version (images 1-6 above). Wraith and last-gen Ghost were the first models to get Black Badge variants in 2016, followed by Dawn in 2017 and Cullinan in 2019 and Black Badge now accounts for more than 27 per cent of all Rolls Royce sales. It’s all about appealing to a new type of customer, a younger multi-millionaire, or as Rolls describes them: “In the 2020s, these women and men engage with luxury products on their own terms. They reject suits for streetwear, use blockchain not banks and influence the analogue world through their digital endeavours. In doing so, they have created new codes of luxury that resonate with their sensibilities: darker in aesthetic, assertive in character and bold in design.” Rolls Royce press releases really are the gifts that keep giving, aren’t they?
In layman terms Black Badge is a trim level that adds more luxury, more power, improved handling and a darkened aesthetic. In Rolls terms it’s “a permanent bespoke treatment to its motor cars. These products, which were launched in 2016, are darker in aesthetic, more urgent in personality and dramatic in material treatment.”
Our choice from the range

What's the verdict?
Few cars turn the act of motorised forward motion into a more artful experience than the new Ghost. Beset with challenges as it is – not least from the rapidly expanding and ultra-quiet high-end EV – Rolls-Royce continues to go its own, somewhat idiosyncratic but always sublimely engineered way. There’s great charisma here, and a pleasing refusal to ram the Ghost full of every last piece of new tech. Less is more, provided it’s also better. By any objective measure – and plenty of subjectives ones – that’s the case here.
If you want a rip-snorting super-saloon you need to look elsewhere. But clearly that’s not the point here, Rolls Royce has built its reputation around producing the world’s most comfortable and luxurious cars, it’s not about to throw that in the bin. Even the Black Badge upgrades are a mere massage to the Ghost’s character, rather than a full organ transplant.
If you absolutely must have the most opulent of the opulent, there’s always the Phantom, but the Ghost does the same things just as well, and the Black Badge is the one to go for – a bit of marketing genius from Rolls that gently erodes the old-man image of old and points the Spirt of Ecstasy in a more future-proofed direction. Now, bring on Spectre.

What's new for 2024.
Rolls-Royce has been focusing on its first electric vehicle, the Spectre , so the Ghost carries over to 2024 without any significant changes to its design, features list, or powertrain.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The Ghost is the entry-level Rolls, but what an entry. The list of standard and optional equipment is mesmerizing and long, and Rolls-Royce offers a seemingly endless list of additional features and customizations. The only question is how much you're willing to spend.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Ghost is powered by a 563-hp 6.7-liter V-12 that is shared with the Cullinan SUV ; Black Badge models get a boost in power to 592 hp. An eight-speed automatic handles shifting duties, and all-wheel drive is standard. According to Rolls-Royce, the Ghost is capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, and we're looking forward to verifying that claim at our test track. Rolls-Royce also boasts that the Ghost offers sharp handling, pointing to its all-wheel-steering system and 50/50 weight distribution as evidence that driving satisfaction played a significant role in the car's development. The Ghost provides a peerless ride thanks to its standard adaptive suspension, which employs a road-scanning camera to help the vehicle anticipate and compensate for potholes. Of course.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA estimates that the Ghost will return 12 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Once we get a chance, we'll put the Ghost through our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test and update this story with the results. For more information about the Ghost's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Like the cabin of any Rolls-Royce, the new Ghost’s is opulent, with every surface, knob, switch, and lever crafted from quality materials. Think thick carpet, finely grained leather, real wood and metal accents, and even an available headliner with tiny integrated LEDs to simulate a starlit sky. An illuminated dashboard inlay glows when the driver turns on the Ghost, adding to the starry-night ambiance. Rear-seat passengers are treated to such luxuries as massaging seats, an entertainment system, and acres of legroom. It's nothing less than expected for a car in the same class as the Bentley Flying Spur and the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-class.

Infotainment and Connectivity
Along with providing a Wi-Fi hotspot, the Ghost features a large infotainment touchscreen with in-dash navigation. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces are included. A dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system allows passengers to adjust the radio, input destinations into the nav, and more. Rolls-Royce also supplies an 18-speaker Bespoke stereo system with 1300 watts of power and magnesium-ceramic speaker cones.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Rolls-Royce offers a host of driver-assistance features as standard on the Ghost, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. For more information about the Ghost's crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Like the rest of the Rolls-Royce lineup, the Ghost comes with a four-year warranty and maintenance package, which doesn't expire at a certain mileage limit.
- Limited warranty covers four years or unlimited miles
- Powertrain warranty covers four years or unlimited miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for four years or unlimited miles

Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge Gets 592 HP To Carry Its 100-Pound Paint Job
We hit miami beach for a brief drive in the latest black badge model..

The Black Badge moniker joined the Rolls-Royce lineup in 2016, first atop the Wraith coupe, followed by the Dawn convertible and Cullinan SUV, then with the last generation Ghost sedan. It’s five years later and the Black Badge trim is still proving hugely prosperous for the company; Rolls-Royce says that 27 percent of the vehicles it sells worldwide are now Black Badge models.
With that success in mind, the new and much-improved Ghost is the latest car to get the more sinister treatment. This is the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge , and it builds on the success of Black Badge models before it by adding more power, enhanced styling, and as we found out firsthand in a brief drive along the beach, improved dynamics.

Powering the Ghost Black Badge is the same twin-turbocharged 6.8-liter V12 as in the base model. But now that engine delivers 592 horsepower (435 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 newton-meters), an improvement of 29 hp and 37 lb-ft over the base Ghost. It's paired to a reworked ZF eight-speed automatic with a "Low" mode – the Rolls equivalent of Sport – which applies power up to 50 percent quicker and is exclusive to all Black Badge models.
We got behind the wheel of the new Ghost Black Badge briefly – don't worry, a full first drive is coming later next month – and hustled the hefty sedan down a makeshift “drag strip” adjacent to Miami Beach. The power improvements were immediately noticeable; low-end torque was more plentiful, and it's available now at just 1,900 RPM. The engine made a slightly more aggressive sound, too, thanks to the upgraded exhaust, and there was a noticeable difference in low-end power application.
The Ghost Black Badge felt a bit better dynamically, as well. Engineers tweaked the suspension to help reduce body roll and made the steering heftier to help with responsiveness. We flung the four-door around an empty parking lot near the beach and the Ghost Black Badge displayed more composure and better agility than its non-Black Badge base brethren. We'd go so far as to call it "sporty," although Rolls-Royce probably wouldn't use that terminology.

Initial impressions suggest the Black Badge variant doesn't stray far from the standard Ghost in terms of looks. But peer closer and there are a few key components that help this version stand out. The high-spoke 21-inch wheels are an aggressive accouterment, featuring a carbon-fiber barrel that consists of 22 layers of carbon. The illuminated front grille from the standard Ghost also carries over, illuminating the vertical slats with 152 LED lights.
Draped over the sheet metal is a new "signature black" hue that Rolls-Royce says is the darkest in the entire industry. It starts with 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of paint, which the company atomizes before applying (twice) to the car, with four employees hand-polishing thoroughly. This process takes three to five hours to complete and results in that impressive depth.
Other than pure black, buyers can customize the exterior of their Ghost Black Badge with up to 44,000 different shades – counting two-tone paints, of course. And as with all Black Badge models before it, Rolls-Royce has darkened all the exterior badges, from the Spirit of Ecstasy on the hood to the double 'R' monogram in the rear.
More From Rolls-Royce:

The Shooting Star headliner is still the star of the interior, but the Black Badge model swaps the illuminated "Ghost" motif on the passenger-side dash for a Black Badge infinity logo instead, with infinity logos also on the sill plates and elsewhere in the cabin. And as with any Ghost, the color combo of the seats is fully customizable in a few hundred different ways, including a bright neon teal finish found on this particular car.
The price? Just know that the Black Badge option is an extra $43,000 on top of the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost, which starts at $332,500. Buyers interested in taking home a brand-new Ghost Black Badge can begin commissioning their cars starting today.

Review: The 2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost Is Still Hauntingly Good
The Rolls-Royce Ghost may be the last of the great V-12 luxury cars
Luxury and tradition go together like hand and glove, likely a freshly manicured hand and a glove of fine calfskin or something similarly opulent. However, when it comes to the modern automobile, there's a third aspect that more and more buyers demand, one that one's a little harder to integrate.
That aspect, of course, is technology. Younger buyers demand all the latest connectivity options and features. while buyers of perhaps a more...stately demeanor might be pushed away from anything too fresh. Finding that perfect balance is a challenge.
Mixing tech and tradition is a dangerous game, yet it is one that manufacturers with provenance must play. Rolls-Royce is a company that's very much in that category, and its new all-electric Spectre coupe shows that the company's vision for the future is sound. But what does that mean, then, for more classic models, like the V-12-powered Ghost ? How do its internally combusted offerings fare in the modern, electrified era?
Related: The Spectre Is A Rolls-Royce First An EV Second
The Very Definition of Stately
You don't have to paint your Rolls-Royce Ghost in Gallileo Blue and Rhodium Silver two-tone to turn heads, but it surely helps. Though finished off with thoroughly modern lines and details, the Ghost has the sort of regal profile that establishes its presence within the upper echelon of modern sedans. Purely in silhouette, you'd know it.
But in silhouette you'd miss all the finer details, like the way the brightwork on the C-pillar takes away some of its weight, or how the subtle contrast of the partly polished 21-inch wheels gives them depth.
Even in the styling there are some elements of technology creeping in. The classic, Pantheon grille is outfitted with active shutters, opening and closing to prioritize aero or cooling. Meanwhile, the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy can likewise be tucked away when you'd rather cut a little more cleanly through the wind—or when you're worried about some rando on the street making off with your little figurehead.
Starting Out Back
The pomp certainly continues to the interior , especially in this specific car, which features is finished in Charles Blue offset by numerous white highlights that are subtly warm. It's not quite a cream but not far off. This motif in a lesser car would look like a gaudy 1950s knock-off. Here, it's simply lovely, and a great pairing to the Galileo Blue on the outside.
Entry to the back seats is via rear-hinged coach doors, which the gauche would call suicide. Opening from the front does make it a bit easier to swing your legs out and make a grand exit, but the way the B-pillar overlaps with the foot well means you'll have to pull in those knees to enter or exit without marring that upholstery, which runs straight down to the lambswool carpet so plush my wife likened it to a Gund teddy bear.
You won't find much in the way of tech back here. The flashiest feature is probably the button you can push (hold, really) to close those doors mechanically, or perhaps the Shooting Star headliner above. Otherwise, it's a pretty traditional experience. There's no pop-out tablet for overriding the infotainment system, nor do the seats offer anything in the way of massaging or flat-folding. They're simply extremely comfortable and surrounded by the highest grade materials. The polished chrome switchgear is lovely to touch, especially the shiny pulls used to open or close the cooling vents.
To see where the Ghost's technology comes into play, then, you need to move up to the driver's seat.
Taking Command From The Front Seat
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is very certainly one of those cars when you can debate whether it's better to drive or be driven. Me, though, I'd almost always prefer to drive, and the Ghost does a great job of rewarding the lucky souls who get to slot in behind the wheel. Still no gaudy massaging, but seats can be cooled with subtle ventilation on warmer days, or heated on the cooler ones. The wheel is heated as well.
That steering wheel has the typical Rolls-Royce shape and positioning, a giant center portion surrounded by half a chrome circle divided into buttons for managing cruise control and toggling media functions. At a casual glance you might not even notice those controls, but they fall to hand quickly and have the same quality feel of everything else in here.
To the right is a 12.3-inch touchscreen running a very thinly skinned version of BMW's iDrive . Yes, that means it comes with a rotary controller, chunkier than in a BMW and with a slightly smoother feel. That's nice, but it is a shame the software it controls is so dated. This is the first place where the Ghost begins to feel a little stuffy. Navigation is functional, and voice recognition worked well enough, but you won't get any of the fancy modern stuff like advanced voice assistance or even Android Auto. Apple CarPlay works, at least.

All These Wonderful Buttons
The Ghost isn't lacking for much, and that very definitely continues when it comes to buttons. You have dedicated buttons for things like skipping forward and backward on media tracks and toggling through radio bands, plus a row of eight shiny toggles that you can configure to do anything you like. Want a dedicated button to trigger the integrated air ionizer? You got it.
Worried about the car tracking where you've been driving? You can set one of those buttons to delete your driving history and all other personal data, too.
One could easily argue that widgets or a pop-up menu in the infotainment system would be more flexible and intuitive, and younger buyers will probably scoff at all the controls, but when everything from the HVAC knobs to all those chromed buttons feel so good to the touch, it's hard to argue against their inclusion.
The feel of that big, upright steering wheel is of course light, very light. It's slow, too. This is a car for driving smoothly, after all, and you'll be disabused of any notion of pushing hard into the corners the first time you enter one. Despite having rear steering to help increase the nimbleness of this big machine, that's really best deployed only in tight parking lots.
It's rolling on 21-inch Eagle F1 tires, and they are remarkably low-profile, resulting in some almost comically skinny whitewalls. But it's not a car for charging through the turns. The relaxed accelerator and brake pedal reiterate that notion, both with long throws and slow reactions, perfect for ensuring your passengers spill neither champagne nor cookies.
That's not to say that the Ghost can't move. This is a V-12-powered car, cylinders swinging through 6.75 liters of displacement with a pair of turbochargers to boot. It has 563 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, which means the Ghost can go when needed. It takes a stern application of the throttle to get the eight-speed automatic to shift down enough cogs and to bring that engine up to full boost but when it gets there, the Ghost goes. Rolls-Royce quotes the 5,600-pound-plus car as having a 4.6-second 0-60 time
At any speed, the Ghost's suspension somehow compensates for those low-profile tires to absorb all but the worst of asphalt imperfections and worn-out railroad crossings. The body does take a moment to settle again after a particularly big bump, but it has a stately sort of float to it. Finally, there's little outside noise to temper the experience of serenity within the cockpit. It's almost as quiet as an EV.
Our Verdict On The Rolls-Royce Ghost
I spent a full day piloting the Rolls-Royce Spectre around Napa Valley earlier this year. It's Rolls-Royce's first EV, and I was blown away by how good it was. It was supple and smooth, soft and quiet, and despite having an all-electric powertrain that needs a big, giant hood about as much as it needs a big, giant grille, the Spectre offers both and looks all the better for them.
Would the Ghost be better as an EV? Yes and no. In the "for" column, that V-12, buttery smooth and swift as it is, simply doesn't offer the same seamless power delivery as an electric motor. This is most cleanly felt when pulling to a stop, when the eight-speed transmission seems to drag on those last few downshifts to neutral, resulting in just the tiniest hint of a lurch. On any other car, it'd be unnoticeable. Here, you feel it.
But internal combustion certainly has its merits. While electrification makes perfect sense for the Spectre coupe, you could reasonably see people potentially putting bigger miles on a sedan like the Ghost. Though I only managed 17.1 MPG during my week with mine, that still means about 375 miles on a tank. And then, of course, it's just a few minutes stop at the filling station to go that distance again.
While the older I get, the less inclined I am to want to spend all day in the driver's seat, when the drive is this smooth and the view both inside and outside the car is this great, I can't think of a better way to waft myself from coast-to-coast than in one of these. So while the Spectre makes perfect sense as an EV, the Ghost proves that good old fossil fuels still have some legs left in the luxury category.

Rolls-Royce Teases New Bespoke Ghost Inspired By A Celestial Phenomenon
Rolls-Royce has teased a new special-edition Ghost that it plans to reveal to the world on October 12

by Sebastien Bell

Rolls-Royce is back at it again, and it appears to be preparing to reveal a new, special-edition model. So far, the automaker has only hinted at what’s to come with a darkened image on social media, but it seems to to be a custom take on the Ghost that will be revealed on October 12.
In fact, based on the fuel economy figures that Rolls-Royce was forced to share with this image, we can be certain that it’s the Ghost , since it gets 17.9 MPG/15.8 L/100 km on the WLTP cycle.
Unfortunately, the only other piece of solid information we get besides the fuel economy and the reveal date, is that the car will be inspired by a “celestial phenomenon.” Of course, this won’t be the first time Rolls-Royce uses the skies as a muse.

Beyond the starry headliner it has become famous for, the automaker has released a number of models inspired by celestial phenomena in the past. In fact, in 2013, it released the Phantom Celestial.
Inspired by the fact that BMW took ownership of Rolls-Royce at midnight on January 1, 2003, the special edition model featured dark paint that was meant to evoke the night sky. Inside, the starlight headliner was a perfect recreation of the skies as they appeared on that special date.
More recently, the automaker released the Cullinan Blue Shadow, which features an “Edge of Space Headliner.” Its fiber optic stars were complemented by a hand-stitched moon that was woven into the headliner over the course of two days.
Custom one- and few-off models have become a more important part of the luxury market recently, and Rolls-Royce has taken advantage of that trend. Over the last decade and a half, the brand says that it has started selling more “Bespoke” models than ever, helping to double the average value of the vehicles it sells.
Whatever is going on with this specific model , we will find out at 1 p.m. BST (8:00 a.m. EDT), on October 12. Check back in with us then to find out what Rolls-Royce has up its sleeve.

Rolls-Royce Marks 100th Anniversary Of First US-Built Silver Ghost
Claimed to be the "best car in the world" at the time.
On January 17, 1921, the first Rolls-Royce "Springfield" Silver Ghost rolled off the assembly line, though it was not in the UK but rather the US. The marque had a facility at the time located in Springfield, Massachusetts and these cars benefited from the creativity of US coachbuilders such as Brewster, Willoughby, Merimac, and Hollbrook.
As part of this 100th-anniversary celebration, Rolls-Royce points out these US-built Silver Ghosts were not only handbuilt for US clients but were equally as desirable as their UK counterparts. Production lasted in Springfield from 1921 until 1931; the Great Depression made it difficult even for wealthy Americans to buy coachbuild luxury cars.

During that 10-year production period, a total of 2,946 cars rolled off the production line, including 1,703 Silver Ghosts. The "Springfield" Phantom joined the lineup in 1925. Today's Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom both trace their roots, not to mention namesakes, back to these early 20th-century coachbuilds. But why is the luxury automaker celebrating this particular model's production start date? What makes it so special?
One key reason is that the Silver Ghost originated the "best car in the world" phrase, a reputation the marque still proudly stands by. The term was given to the original Silver Ghost in 1907 by Autocar, the world's oldest automotive publication, founded in 1895.

Rolls-Royce also proudly claims that a full two-thirds of all vehicles ever commissioned remain in solid mechanical condition and are still driving. Many are regularly displayed at the world's finest auto shows. Today, the Rolls-Royce Ghost is one of the luxurious vehicles on the planet and customers have a seemingly unlimited number of customization options.
During our own recent experience behind the wheel , we applauded the latest Rolls-Royce Ghost for its design inside and out, an abundance of power, and its new and exceptional Planar Suspension System featuring the company's Magic Carpet Ride technology. Base price: $332,500. Living luxuriously has never been cheap and never will be.

The unconscious savagery of the Rolls-Royce Spectre
I used to hate these cars.
- 23 October 2023, 5:01am
- From Spectator Life

Most Rolls-Royce drivers have four cars or more: this is a car for leisure. They drive their Rolls-Royces perhaps 3,000 miles a year: I would never do that. I would treat it like any other car. Lawrence of Arabia had nine armoured Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts for his campaign in Arabia. I would go to the supermarket in it, muddy the doors, let brambles scratch it. Before I drove Rolls-Royces I didn’t like them because I didn’t like the people who drove them. Now the fact they drive them is the only thing I like about them.
It is insanely quiet, as Royce predicted, though I could not hear my heartbeat, as a male reviewer insisted he did
The Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s first fully electric car: it will make no cars with combustion engines after 2030 so if you want a petrol Ghost – the purist’s Rolls-Royce – order it now. The Spectre is a glorious thing: long and sinuous, and certain of itself. Cars are made to mirror: drive a Spectre, and you act like one. I am more confident than usual. It’s owned by BMW who know how to treat it, but they are made in West Sussex.
Mr Rolls was an engineer. Mr Royce was in marketing. It’s like a Cole Porter song, or light opera. Purists call their cars Rolls, a small taunt at a man who’s dead. Rolls has been dead almost a century, but he dreamed of the first electric car. He didn’t want to make cars with combustion engines: he always knew an electric car would be quieter. And he longed for quiet. He just had no choice.

I am not allowed to drive the Spectre out of Kilburn. I would have panicked in any case: Hangar Lane is a place of dread for this column, and I once parked a Ferrari across it like a curse. But because there are only three Spectres on British roads that day and because the reviewer’s first experience of the Spectre cannot be driving along the A406, I am driven to a Berkshire golfing hotel. Not that I would have minded: I like watching these cars meet real life. People look pleased to see it, as they would have been pleased to see the late Queen. It has similar energy: an object like this is a curiosity. I am allowed to drive it from the golf hotel to the Newt Hotel in Somerset 100 miles away. I park it amid cows, who ignore it.
It’s huge but it doesn’t feel huge: not like the flagship Phantom, a half a million pound car that feels like it costs more. I couldn’t drive the Phantom on the hairpin bends of the South of France – that sounds as if the Phantom was a character in Rebecca – but I could probably have handled it in Texas. The Phantom is a car to be driven in: it’s too big for me, though it does have an art gallery on the dash. All Rolls-Royces are bespoke.

I can handle the Spectre: it’s a two-door coupé with four seats. It is insanely quiet, as Rolls predicted, though I could not hear my heartbeat, as a male reviewer insisted he did. Its range is 329 miles – for once I believe automobile marketing literature – and when I charge it at a Shell garage it looks odd, like an elephant buying socks. It is the most beautiful Rolls-Royce I have driven. It’s hard to write about the sinuousness of leather or the gloss on wood. Rolls-Royces are made by obsessives. That is clear. People who say the British don’t know anything about the decorative arts don’t look at our cars. It is powerful and it is obedient: if you punch the Spirit of Ecstasy, it will recede into the bonnet. People stay out of its way: it weighs three tonnes. I wonder if fellow drivers understand Rolls-Royces better than their drivers. Because it is not the finish on a Rolls-Royce that obsesses me, even if taking off your socks and having your feet meet an inch of lambswool is a strange experience. It’s that power. Lawrence knew it. Perhaps that is why wealthy people buy one after the other: there is no better metaphor for the condition of being rich. The car expresses an unconscious savagery. I battle a camper van when the A303 goes into a single lane. I put my foot down and I almost hit the central curb. The Spectre rescues me, but still passes what the company calls the champagne test: would a passenger spill their drink? Lord knows what the camper van thought.
So, this is a car of dreams, again: competitors will be eating their fists. The Rolls-Royce has lost nothing by becoming electric: quite the contrary, for what does an English duke want with the needy throb of petrol? Poor Elon Musk!
Why does Macron think France should learn to live with terrorism?

Ngoại thất sử dụng màu đồng Lyrical giống màu ánh sáng do nhật thực toàn phần tạo ra.

Munich. The BMW Group sold 93,931 fully-electric BMW and MINI vehicles in the third quarter – an increase of +79.6% compared to the same period of last year. The BMW brand once again doubled its third-quarter deliveries of fully-electric vehicles from the same period of last year (+100.3%). The company was thus able to translate customer interest in its fully-electric products into dynamic growth.
“The sales success of the third quarter shows that our customers appreciate our wide range of attractive products across all drive technologies. Our fully-electric products, in particular, are benefiting from high demand worldwide – as seen in our BEV sales, which significantly outperformed the total BEV market in the first nine months,” said Pieter Nota, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales. “Overall, we are on track to meet our growth targets for 2023,” Nota continued.
The BMW Group delivered a total of 621,699 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers in the third quarter. This represents a year-on-year growth of +5.8%. In the third quarter, the company continued to build on its strong competitive position in key core markets. Between January and September, BMW Group sales climbed to 1,836,563 units (+5.1%).
As previously announced in August, the company expects to see solid growth in deliveries for the full year 2023 (previously, slight growth). Growth drivers include models from the upper price segment, as well as fully-electric vehicles – with BEVs projected to account for 15% of total vehicle sales in 2023.
BMW brand remains number one in global premium segment
In the third quarter, the BMW brand delivered 549,941 vehicles to customers worldwide – an increase of +6.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thanks to its attractive line-up, the brand is benefiting from high demand and remains number one in the global premium segment.
The BMW brand is reporting particularly strong demand for its fully-electric vehicles; in the third quarter, BEV deliveries once again doubled from the same period of last year (+100.3%) to 83,211 units. Between January and September, 217,138 fully-electric BMW vehicles were delivered to customers.
The BMW 4 Series models and, in particular, the fully-electric BMW i4*, are proving especially popular, while the BMW iX1* and X1 are also highly sought-after. Models from the upper price segment, like the 7 Series, the updated BMW X7, and the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models, are also driving sales growth.
In addition, the company is receiving very positive customer feedback on the new BMW 5 Series range and, especially, the fully-electric BMW i5*. “With the launch of the new BMW i5, we will have another attractive fully-electric vehicle in the market that will further accelerate the ramp-up of electromobility. New orders already reflect our customers’ high level of enthusiasm for this new model,” explained Nota. With the launch of the BMW i5, the BMW Group will have a fully-electric option in all its core segments.
BMW M success story continues in third quarter
With 48,978 units sold worldwide in the third quarter – a year-on-year increase of +13.2% – BMW M once again demonstrated its strength in the profitable high-performance and performance segments. Sales were also boosted by the introduction of the new BMW XM*, just six months ago. Following the start of production in July, the BMW i7 M70* and i5 M60* models are the newest members of the M family, combining fully-electrified M Power with the highest level of elegance, luxury and comfort. M GmbH therefore feels confident about the final quarter of 2023 and is on track for another record year.
MINI releases new models on the road to all-electric model line-up
The MINI brand delivered 70,384 (+2.6%) vehicles to customers worldwide in the third quarter. The latest MINI limited editions – the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition and the MINI Clubman Final Edition – both with exclusive design and equipment features, contribute to the strong popularity of MINI brand vehicles. Between July and September, MINI sold 10,720 fully-electric MINI Cooper SE* and MINI Cooper SE Convertibles (-0.4%). With the recently launched new electric MINI Cooper and the upcoming release of the electric MINI Countryman in 2024, the MINI brand continues to forge ahead on its road to an all-electric model line-up.
Rolls-Royce prepares for initial customer deliveries of Spectre
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars sold 1,374 vehicles in the third quarter (-9,0%). This was in line with expectations, given that production of Dawn and Wraith was discontinued in the second quarter and the brand’s production facilities in Goodwood are gearing up for initial customer deliveries of the Rolls-Royce Spectre in the coming weeks. Interest in the fully-electric super coupé remains exceptionally high and order books are already full until 2025. Rolls-Royce continues to deliver Coachbuild and Bespoke creations and demand for Phantom, Ghost, Cullinan and Black Badge models remains strong. With a robust order book and 4,555 vehicles (-3.1%) sold since the start of the year, the company is approaching the year-end with confidence.
BMW Motorrad: Third-quarter sales confirm continued high customer demand
BMW Motorrad delivered a total of 52,037 (+0.5%) motorcycles and scooters to customers between July and September of its 2023 centenary year. Building on the previous all-time sales high it posted for the first half-year, strong customer demand for BMW Group motorcycles and scooters continued in the third quarter. The highly attractive product range, with the successful market launch of innovative new models, like the fascinating Power Roadster M 1000 R, lays the foundation of BMW Motorrad’s success. With the upcoming market launch of the new R 1300 GS, BMW Motorrad will have its most important product highlight of the year in showrooms by the end of the fourth quarter. As the world’s most successful premium motorcycle, the redesigned Boxer GS will give BMW Motorrad sales a major boost.
BMW & MINI sales in the regions/markets
In China , the BMW Group sold 210,331 BMW and MINI vehicles in the third quarter (-1.8%).
In the US , 91,849 BMW and MINI vehicles were delivered to customers between July and September of this year. This represents an increase of +7.8%.
In Europe, sales of BMW and MINI vehicles totalled 221,496 units for the third quarter (+12.9%).
In Germany , 70,901 BMW and MINI vehicles were registered during this period.

A Florida man's wife had her rare $200K purple Rolls Royce stolen. He used a plane banner to find it.
- A Florida man said his wife's 2016 Rolls Royce was stolen out of their garage.
- Bob Benyo said he used a sky banner to solicit tips in exchange for a reward.
- After hundreds of calls and texts to Benyo, a "nice" woman found the car outside her Airbnb.

The Twilight Purple 2016 Rolls Royce Wraith Florida resident Bob Benyo gave his wife a rare one — he estimates about six of them are in the country.
"It stands out. I mean, it's kind of hard to miss," Benyo told Insider.
So when two people followed his wife to their home and stole the car on September 21, he knew he had to get it back.
"I can't replace that car. Even though it's not brand new — it's a 2016 — it's special. It was an anniversary gift," Benyo told Insider.
Benyo said he worked with law enforcement, combed through surveillance footage, and reached out to Rolls Royce for assistance. However, his most useful tool in recovering the car was his very own business: a sky banner company.
'My wife and kids were literally one room away'
Benyo told Insider that the incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon when his wife drove home with their two kids, seven and nine. A car followed her home without her knowledge and parked across the street in front of their neighbor's home in a silver Mercedes in their Miami neighborhood .
Benyo said surveillance video captured from outside his home shows the two suspects hop out of their car as soon as one of the three garage doors closed on his house. Benyo said police with the North Miami Police Department believe they used a remote device to open the garage door.
After rummaging through the garage, Benyo said the thieves were able to find the keys to the Rolls Royce on a side counter. He said that his mother-in-law pulled into the driveway while the robbery was taking place and wondered why the garage door was open, but did not see the suspects. Benyo said he believed they were also trying to steal his Aston Martin .
He later learned from police the suspects were armed: "My wife and kids were literally one room away with one door in between them," Benyo said.
He contacted local law enforcement and called Rolls Royce, asking to use their tracking system to locate the car. This was just the beginning of Benyo's journey to return the luxury car back to his wife.
He said "immediately after" speaking with police, he decided to take some matters into his own hands.
'Stolen Purple Rolls-Royce Reward'
Benyo said he's known for using his company, Aerial Banners, to send unusual messages. He once used a banner to ask a business to pay him money he said he was owed.
He used one of his planes to tow a sign asking the citizens of Miami-Dade County if they'd seen the regal dark purple automobile worth over $200,000.
"Stolen Purple Rolls-Royce Reward" the aerial sign read, with a phone number attached.
He offered a $5,000 reward. And it worked: Soon, the tips came in.
Benyo told Insider he received 310 calls and messages in total, some of which included people wishing him luck. He said about 100 calls were legitimate tips, with people telling him they had seen the car.
"There was only one or two that were somewhat negative," Benyo said. "Like 'your car's ugly' or 'I hope you don't find your car.'"
It took days of searching, haggling with the people who stole it — who Benyo said were already being pursued by police for other crimes — and combing through tips until a call from a generous woman named Fay helped get the car back in his garage.
'Next time you should think about stealing a black one'
Eventually, Benyo got his first good lead: Someone was offering the Rolls Royce for rent on Telegram.
"I thought, 'Wow, that's really ballsy,'" Benyo said.
Benyo said he worked with private investigators and the person who sent the tip throughout that Saturday to infiltrate the chat and try to convince the thief to rent the car to him.
Eventually, Benyo, using the tipster's Telegram account , let the person offering the car for rent know that he was the owner trying to get his car back.
"I said 'I'm not trying to have the police meet you. Just park the car and walk away from it. I just want to get it back.'" Benyo told Insider.
The suspect kept pushing back, he said, telling Benyo that they knew it was a set-up, and refused. Benyo said he told the suspect that they would eventually be caught.
"I said 'next time you should think about maybe stealing a black one that blends in' — making jokes trying to make light of it and trying to get him to give it up. And I wasn't getting anywhere."
Then, right before midnight, Benyo said he got another tip. A woman renting an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale said she saw the car parked outside her window in a neighborhood with a maze of streets difficult to maneuver.
"They found a great spot to park it," Benyo said.
Benyo said the woman — who only wanted to be identified as Fay — got the reward after police determined she wasn't involved with the people who took the Rolls Royce .
"It's getting a window replaced and some dings and scratches fixed and that's pretty much it," Benyo told Insider. "New keys of course being made. They're hot on the trail of the suspects. They told me they know who they are. So it's just a matter of time before they make the arrests."
Benyo said his family is relieved to have the car back but is taking extra precautions to secure their valuables, like storing their keys in a locked box and setting their alarms. Despite the negative experience, he said the entire incident had a silver lining.
"I think the most unique thing is the amount of people across Miami-Dade County, Fort Lauderdale, and across the country that took their time to reach out to me to just say 'Hey, man, I'm so sorry, I hope you get your car back.' And I thought that that was really, really unique… to this day, I still get random messages."
North Miami Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider. The Miami-Dade Police Department referred Insider to the NMPD.

“Tasty cocktails and blue Rolls Royce” Review of Aist

Just had dinner at Aist in Moscow, really charming place, beautiful people, inspiring stories, women where super nicely dressed, we wondered if it was for the film festival or this is the myth about how groomed Russian women are. Food was good overall but what is not to miss are the cocktails and the khatchaburi! A kind of Russian heavy cheezy melty delicious pie! A real treat. The terasse on the roof is as charming, but you'd miss the action of the street around and the pople coming in and out, the golden Bentleys, the blue Rolls Royces, summer in the city of Moscow has never been more glamorous and trendy. Nice music, apparently they also host DJ's on certain nights. Service was great. Prices on the high side. But definetly a must. Apparently the owners of this restaurant own a whole bunch of these trendy restaurants. http://www.trendymoscow.com/tag/novikov-group/ I'll definetly check them all out. If life brings me back here. :) Danielle

We we were visiting Moscow and staying at the Marco Polo and came across this restaurant down the street, where we saw Mercedes, Bentleys, a Ferrari, and decide to have early dinner where the beautiful Russia that were driving these cars were dining. We started out with a Russian beer and Vodka and also order a La Mode a drink with crushed ice lemon, oranges, strawberries.Very Pricey! It was excellent, on a hot evening, but very pricey. We ended up having dinner and ordered the fish that excellent cook perfectly. Beautiful people came and went so did the cars. The seafood was excellent so were the drinks. If you want a night of pleasure go to this restaurant. We had a excellent table for people watching, expensive car watching, good food. Expensive wine. Worth going again the next night!
excellent place to hang out in summer, especially the roof terrace in summer is somewhat unreal for Moscow, cool and fancy and lots of green around, and this in the very very center not far from pushkinskaya. kitchen is cool too, not cheap though)) and very nice cocktails .... expect no chance to grab a table on hot summer days
Served us warm oysters. And this was after the server had to check with the kitchen to see if there remained an of these delights. That evening I awaited the gastro surprise, but nothing happened...whew! Grilled octopus was inferior to that at Brix Wine Bar and twice as expensive. Downstairs, with all the smoke was packed. Upstairs, with the clean air, was empty. We sat upstairs with a view to the open kitchen. Wine selection is what I have learned to expect in Moscow, limited selection of reasonably priced wines, limited selection of outrageously priced wines. Very pretty place with attentive staff. I ordered the chef's special for that night, the roasted quail with spinach and it was dried out tough and unappealing. I wonder if the same kitchen serves downstairs and upstairs...because the folks downstairs seem to be having lots of fun while the two upstairs were looking at an evening of the Moscow restaurant formula: big investments in the interior, but not in the food... Bummer
It is always a fantastic dining experience, from both socializing and having absolutely amazing dining experience. Fish is great, but probably the best borsch soup I ever tried

TVEL, a Russian nuclear fuel cycle company and a subsidiary of Rosatom, has signed a contract with Czech national power company ČEZ to introduce the new RK 3+ modification of its VVER-440 fuel at the 2,040MW Dukovany nuclear power plant (NPP).
Prior to the introduction, TVEL will carry out a number of pre-irradiation tests for the new fuel design aimed at qualification for a licence from the Czech Republic’s State Office for Nuclear Safety.
TVEL said in a statement: “The project will also consider the operations experience of the prototype of such fuel at power unit 4 of Kola NPP in Murmansk region (Russia’s North-West, Kola Peninsula), where it has been successfully used since 2010.”
Compared to the previous generations of VVER-440 fuel, the RK 3+ design has enhanced physical and thermo-hydraulic properties.
Additionally, the new fuel design features longer fuel rod pitch, which will streamline the water-uranium ratio in the reactor core and increase the efficiency of the fuel.
The design provides an option to the engineers with the elongation of the fuel cycle at the power plant.
TVEL JSC research and development vice-president Alexander Ugryumov said: “The new project of switching Dukovany NPP to RK 3+ fuel will facilitate the optimization of the plant fuel cycle strategy, also increasing safety and economic efficiency of the power units operation.”
Dukovany nuclear power plant was commissioned in 1985
Commissioned in 1985, the Dukovany NPP has four power units powered by VVER-440 reactors. Each of the reactors has a heat capacity of 1,375MW and an electric capacity of 510MW.
The power plant generates about 13 billion kWh of electricity per annum, meeting approximately 20% of power needs in the Czech Republic.
The country also operates Temelin NPP, featuring two units with VVER-1000. The two power plants account for about 35% of the country’s total power generation capacity.
The two nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic have been operated with Russian nuclear fuel manufactured by TVEL’s Machine-Building Plant (Elektrostal, Moscow region).
Recently, TVEL secured a contract to supply nuclear fuel to the future power units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant (NPP) in China.
