25 Best Pet Costumes for Halloween 2023
These are some of the funniest pet costumes we could find..

It’s finally October and the countdown to Halloween is in full swing. This time of year is always great for binging spooky movies, getting caught up in the latest scary games, and enjoying some tasty candy all the while. One of the best parts of Halloween, though, is the costumes. You may be behind in your Halloween planning yourself, in which case we have a roundup of some top funny adult Halloween costumes to also shop for; but I think we can all agree it’s even better when people decide to dress their pets up for the occasion.
If you’re a pet owner (and a lot of us gamers are), and looking to pick up a fun costume for your furry friend, we’re here to help. In our shopping guide below, we’ve found some of the best pet costumes available online, from hilarious outfits themed around movies to downright adorable costumes of the classics, like pumpkins and vampires. Of course, most are marketed and made for dogs, but some are for cats too! Check 'em out.
Note: Some of these are selling fast and only have limiting sizes available still!
1. Ghostface

What’s your favorite scary movie? If it’s Scream, then you’ll likely love this Ghostface costume for your pet. It has a hooded style for their head to peek through and even come complete with a fake version of the killer’s iconic knife! Don’t worry, though, so long as you know the rules to surviving a horror movie, you’re safe…
2. Pennywise

Hiya, Georgie! If your goal this Halloween is to find the best horror-themed costumes for your pet, you can’t go wrong with this Pennywise outfit. Complete with a wig and floating arms attached to the costume holding a balloon, it’s a hilarious way to get your pet in the spirit of the season.
3. Michael Myers

You can’t have Halloween without Michael Myers, which is why this costume is an excellent pick for your pet. Similar to the Ghostface costume, this one also comes with a fake knife attached, and the classic mask comes separately to be attached around their head.

This adorable pet costume lets you dress up your furry friend as everyone’s favorite Mogwai, Gizmo. The full costume comes complete as a jumpsuit with a velcro head featuring Gizmo’s face. They’ll look so cute, you could surely make an acception to feed them after midnight.

Another absolute winner with an included wig, this Chucky costume will make your pet standout on Halloween night. Alongside the colorful jumpsuit, it also comes complete with floating arms holding a ruler.
6. SpongeBob SquarePants

This costume speaks for itself. As one of the most popular characters probably ever, your pet can live his or her best life in a pineapple under the sea as Spongebob for Halloween. Your dog can ditch the Krusty Krab for one night and get some fishy dog treats trick 'r' treating instead!
7. Wednesday Addams

Whether she’s sabotaging a play at camp or dancing to The Cramps, Wednesday Addams is a creepy, kooky Halloween favorite. And with this costume, you can place your pet in her shoes. It even comes complete with a wig, so they can have her classic braids!
8. Sam from Trick ‘r’ Treat

Make sure to bring plenty of treats for your pet while they’re in this Sam costume from Trick ‘r’ Treat. Much like the character in the movie, this costume consists of an orange outfit with a hood to match Sam’s burlap sack mask with button eyes.
9. Wonder Woman

If you’re looking to dress up your pet in an iconic superhero costume, this Wonder Woman option is a must-have purchase. The main outfit consists of a red top with the wonder woman symbol, gold belt, and a blue skirt with stars, but it also comes with her classic headpiece for them to wear.
10. Superman

In a similar vein of iconic superhero costumes, you can also dress your pet up as the one and only Superman! Complete with a bright red cape, this costume is an excellent choice for those with a love of DC superheroes. It’s also soft and lightweight, so they won’t feel too weighed down by it.

This hilarious costume is both easy to put on your pet and incredibly entertaining. All you have to do is put on the headpiece and they’ll be ready to bike off into the sky with E.T. in the basket ahead of them.
12. Finding Nemo

Thankfully, there’s no way your pet could get lost in a costume as vibrant as this one. This full-body costume is very easy to put on as well, so you can quickly transform them into everyone’s favorite clownfish with ease.
13. Top Gun

If your pet feels the need for speed, then they need this adorable Top Gun jacket. It’s a simple costume design as well with just the jacket, so you won’t need to worry about dressing them up in a variety of different items alongside it. Unless you want to add some aviators in there, which would be the cherry on top.

During the day, they’re good boys and girls, but at night… they’re Batman. With this costume, your pet can become the Dark Knight in a quick and easy fashion. The costume set comes with a chest piece that features the Batman logo, a cape, a yellow belt, and a headpiece.
15. Buzz Lightyear

Your pet can go to infinity and beyond with this Buzz Lightyear costume. It has a simple velcro design at the front that makes getting your pet in and out of it nice and easy, but more importantly, it comes bundled with an alien plush toy that they can take with them.
What's the most hilarious pet costume ever?

16. Freddy Krueger

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you… but only in costume form for your pet, thankfully. This pick is great for those looking to celebrate classic horror movie villains this Halloween season, complete with his clawed glove.
17. Chewbacca

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… your pet dressed up in this extra adorable Chewbacca costume. This fun, furry costume can be slipped right over their head and comes complete with a hood and a little pouch that hangs off the side.
18. Star Wars Porg

If you want an even more adorable Star Wars creature to dress your furry friend up as, why not try this Porg costume? Similar to the Chewbacca costume, this is also an easy step-in hooded outfit but features little wings off to the side. The hood is also designed with the Porg’s fuzzy face on it.
19. Pumpkin

You can’t go wrong with a classic, and this pumpkin costume is perfect for your pet. It features a soft, lightweight, and plush design, so your pet won’t feel too weighed down by it. It’s easy to put on as well, with a simple velcro design to loop around.
20. Glow Skeleton

Similar to the pumpkin costume, this hooded skeleton costume has a lightweight design that’s easy to put on your pet. More importantly, though, the bones on the back glow in the dark, so if you’re heading out trick ‘r’ treating, your pet can guide you through the night.
21. Vampire

This classic costume idea is a hilarious pick for your pet. It’s a simple one to put on as well, since you only need to worry about the cape! They may get a bit annoyed with how long it is, but this vampire costume is well worth it, even if it’s just for a quick photo opportunity.
22. Bumble Bee

This bumble bee costume is one of the more adorable picks in this collection. Alongside the plush black-and-yellow full-body bumble bee outfit for your pet, you also get wings and a headpiece with antenna attached. It’s easy to put on and take off as well, thanks to its velcro closures.

For those with a love of dinosaurs, this cute T-Rex costume is worth the pick-up for your pet. Alongside the full-body outfit (which comes complete with little floating T-Rex arms off to the side) you also get a headpiece, which is the real winner of the entire costume in my opinion!
24. Snowman

If you simply can’t wait to start celebrating the holidays, this costume will get you and your pet in the festive spirit. It’s a ridiculously sweet snowman costume with little stick arms, a cozy scarf, and a top hat that’ll have you serenading your pet with ‘Frosty the Snowman’ all night.

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a hotdog costume or another fun food-themed one for your pets. This one has a simple design as well with a hook-and-loop closure, so you can adjust it with ease, and easy leash access if you want to take them walking around. It’s also plush, so your pet can feel comfy and cozy while wearing it.
There are so many funny and adorable pet costumes for Halloween, it was hard to narrow them down! Other contenders included Bruiser from Legally Blonde which sadly already sold out, but was on our list prior. Are you planning on dressing your pet up for Halloween?

I work at Spirit Halloween. Here are 9 mistakes I see customers make when shopping for costumes and decor.
- I've worked at Spirit Halloween for two seasons and have seen many customers make the same mistakes .
- I always encourage customers to invest in high-quality pieces they can reuse year after year.
- Many customers forget to check Halloween makeup for irritants and allergens.

Halloween has always been more of a lifestyle than a holiday for me, much to the chagrin of my husband and family.
Although this is my second season working for Spirit Halloween, I've been a longtime customer and have even joked that the store was created just for me.
Here are nine mistakes I see customers make while shopping for their costumes and seasonal decor at the popular Halloween chain.
Going straight for the lowest price instead of investing in quality pieces
If you only plan to wear a costume once, it's fine to go for the cheap stuff. But investing a little more can extend the costume's wear.
Spirit Halloween offers a line of Signature Collection costumes, which cost more but are made with higher-quality fabrics that I've found can last through several years of Halloween events or cosplay fun.
Investing in great accessories to complete the look is just as important. For example, if you're dressing up as a vampire, fangs can add an extra layer to the costume. However, a cheap pair of fangs probably won't last the night.
My personal favorite is the Scarecrow brand of fangs because they come in different sizes for a more custom fit.
Buying makeup kits without proper application and removal products
Makeup can really elevate a costume's look, but let's face it, most Halloween store makeup isn't top quality. Protect both your skin and your look by investing in quality products like primer, setting powder, and heavy-duty setting spray.
If you're using prosthetics, be sure to purchase Spirit Gum adhesive and remover. Without it, removing prosthetics can be difficult. And you definitely don't want to join that next-day Zoom meeting still dressed as Hellboy.
Failing to check makeup and prosthetics for irritants
Always test makeup and adhesives for allergic reactions by using a small amount of the product on the inside of your wrist. Wait at least 20 minutes to see how your skin reacts.
Before purchasing any products, read the package carefully and search for any irritants or allergens.
Not browsing the entire store
When looking for accessories to complete your look, keep your eyes open and peruse the entire store because hidden jewels are everywhere.
The checkout line, in particular, is always full of the best selection of chokers, earrings, and other fun novelty items.
Only coming into the store once per season
Never make just one trip per season to Spirit Halloween, as stores get truckloads of new merchandise delivered weekly. Chances are you'll find something new every time you come into the store.
Ask an associate on the sales floor when the next delivery will be. We're happy to help you find the latest products.
Failing to read the labels on animatronics.
When purchasing animatronics, always make sure you read the box before making a purchase.
A lot of the animatronics are made for outdoor, covered use only. That means that they can break down from exposure to weather (especially humidity that can mess with the electronics) if left outdoors unprotected.
Not signing up for email and text offers
Most people are tired of receiving email and text offers, but Spirit Halloween's are worth it. By signing up, you'll get a 20% off coupon for your next visit.
You'll also receive exclusive emails throughout the year about new props and displays, and notifications when stores near you are opening or hiring.
Returning items before calling support
Most people don't realize that Spirit Halloween has its own tech support hotline. Before returning any electronics to the store, call the Zombie Tech Squad (their number is displayed on all prop directions).
Most times, they can troubleshoot your issue and save you a trip back to the store, which can be super helpful during the busy Halloween season.
Forgetting that we stay open after Halloween
Don't skip out on the clearance sales on November 1 and 2.
Last year, my store was still putting out new stock until closing on October 31. All of that merchandise is typically discounted by 25% to 50% the next day.

Halloween spending in Nashville is reaching scary heights. How ghosts and goblins will celebrate

- Shoppers spend the bulk of their Halloween money on costumes, most often online and at holiday specialty stores like Spirit Halloween.
- Nashville restaurants and bars are prepping for the spending surge by offering unique dining experiences.
The spookiest thing about Halloween? The price tag.
That's boo-tiful for businesses.
From Reese's pumpkins and animatronic yard decorations to petrifying parties and Barbie movie costumes, Halloween-related consumer spending is expected to reach $12.2 billion this scary season, an all-time high. That's according to a survey conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics and published by the National Retail Federation.
“More Americans than ever will be reaching into their wallets and spending a record amount of money to celebrate Halloween this year,” National Retail Federation President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a news release about the survey.
Total consumer spending has grown each year since 2020, when shoppers spent $8 billion during the Halloween season. Last year, consumers spent $10.6 billion. Per person spending is on the rise, too. In 2022, spending was estimated at $100.45 per person. This year, it's $108.24 per person.
That's a lot of Starburst, Snickers, Sour Patch Kids and Skittles. Oh, don't forget about candy corn. Or the Tootsie Pop, Tennessee's most popular candy according to CandyStore.com.
How about in Music City?
"The biggest ticket I've seen so far this year was around $5,000," Nashville Spirit Halloween store manager Tommy Moore said. "The guy bought just about every animatronic we have in the store."
Also in Nashville, Cheekwood Estate and Gardens features fall harvest and Halloween-themed events throughout the season. And "Boo at the Zoo" is popular for families at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. Ticket revenue last year for that event exceeded $600,000.
Growing in popularity are Halloween-themed events at bars and restaurants aimed toward adults celebrating the October holiday. One hotel bar has gone all out — spending five figures to do so.
Unique experiences can lead to successful events at local venues, managers say, as they discover tricks or treats to distinguish their brands and conjure more ghosts, goblins and superhero web slingers around the horrifying holidays.
Cost of Halloween: Costumes make up biggest chunk of spending
While handing out candy is one of the most popular plans for those celebrating, dressing up comes with the biggest price tag.
At Spirit Halloween stores in West Nashville, Hermitage and Hendersonville, shoppers are searching for full costumes or accessories to complete looks.
Costume spending this year will account for $4.1 billion, according to the National Retail Federation estimate. Halloween decorations come in at second place, costing an estimated $3.9 billion to participating consumers.
Adult costumes are peaking in popularity, too.
Scary movie mainstays such as Ghostface masks and Michael Myers jumpsuits line the shelves at Spirit, but trendy costumes this year include branded Barbie movie outfits and costumes inspired by popular television shows "Yellowstone" and "Ted Lasso."
Most people shop for costumes and search for outfit inspiration on the internet. Amazon is a go-to for shoppers. According to a survey by Power Reviews, 61% of costume shoppers plan to secure at least part of their outfit from the online platform.
Moore, the store manager at Spirit, said customers are constantly asking for costumes they have seen on TikTok and Instagram.
"Social media has amped up a lot of spending," Moore said.
Big box stores like Target and Walmart are destinations for items like candy and decorations, and second-hand stores are common for people looking to find a deal on costumes.
According to survey data from Power Reviews, 73% of consumers said the broader economic environment will impact their Halloween spending in some way. That could include using coupons or looking for deals, buying less-expensive candy, shopping discount stores and reusing or recycling previous costumes.
Nashville bars and restaurants experiment with Halloween 'experiences'
Hidden Bar at the Noelle Hotel in Nashville has created pop-up bar experiences for Christmas for the past couple years. This year, the bar tried out a Halloween theme, and it paid dividends.
Brad Stewart, head of food and beverage at Noelle, said his team started planning for the Halloween and Christmas pop-ups in March. They spent $45,000 on the Halloween concept, which is called Room 237 — from Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining."
With up to a two-hour wait to get inside on the weekend, hype on social media and about $300,000 in revenue in two months (more than double what's normal for the bar), it's safe to say the pop-up has been a success.
Stewart said the pop-up is not only about revenue but customer engagement.
"It’s all about creating experiences," Stewart said. "It’s not just the decor. It’s the cocktails, it’s the entrance, the staff uniforms. Even down to the glassware. How can you not break the fourth wall and make sure somebody feels a part of it?"
The success of Hidden Bar's pop-ups shows there's an appetite in Nashville for themed holiday experiences, even for Halloween, which is largely celebrated by children and families.
Lou, a small restaurant in the Inglewood neighborhood in East Nashville, is preparing an intimate Halloween dinner on Oct. 31, similar to a murder mystery event. The ticketed event will offer a three-course meal and interactive dance performance by Pydance, a theatrical dance company led by Asia Pyron.
"You're part of a performance," said Campbell Moore, part of the team at Lou. "You can actually drink wine and enjoy your food and be entertained."
While the event is likely to bring in more revenue than a typical Tuesday night at the restaurant, Campbell Moore said it's not really about the money.
"It's a win on all sides," he said. "We're able to scoop some business, offer a platform for the performers and create a unique experience for the customers. It's just for fun. We want to do something different."

Hollywood loves a ghost movie. These are the best ones to watch this Halloween

A g-g-g- ghost!
That — spluttering and all — was the usual reaction to Casper, the Friendly Ghost. Ghosts scare people. Even if, like Casper in the old cartoons, they just want to be your friend.
Ghosts, as a matter of fact, often have more on their minds than just saying "boo!"
Sometimes, as in "Macbeth," "Julius Caesar," and "Hamlet," they come back to scold, warn, prod. Sometimes, as in "A Christmas Carol," they do interventions.
And sometimes — as in "Ghostbusters" — ghosts just wanna have fun.
At Halloween, our annual festival of fear, they'll always have a place of honor — if only because their costume is a gift to the lazy. White sheet, two holes, done. Coincidentally, ghosts are also among the simplest of Hollywood's special effects. Double exposure is as old as film itself.
Maybe that's why ghosts have haunted movie theaters for 120 years — ever since Georges Méliès made "The Apparition" in 1903. And Halloween is a great time to catch up with the best of them. Here are some of our favorites.
Never fear! There are over 100 scary Halloween things to do, read and see in North Jersey
With this caveat: Hollywood's ghosts, like all ghosts, have mixed motives. Not every ghost movie is meant to scare you.
Some movie ghosts are wistful. Or romantic. Or funny. Or even thought provoking.
But others? BEWARRRRRE!!!!!!
'A Ghost Story' (2017)
There are sad ghosts, just like there are sad clowns. Casey Affleck, for instance — killed in a crash, who comes back to his old home to haunt his grieving wife, Rooney Mara. Ludicrously, wistfully, he looks exactly like a trick-or-treat ghost — the sheet with two eyes. This minimalist meditation on time, grief and memory, from writer-director David Lowery, is slow, unsettling. Haunting, in a word. Vudu, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google, Apple.
'The Others' (2001)
The other whats? Not humans, for sure, in this moody tale of a woman (Nicole Kidman), her photo-sensitive children, and her servants, in an isolated house in the Channel Islands where — it turns out — they are not quite so alone after all. Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Vudu.
'Sixth Sense' (1999)
"I see dead people." And there's a reason for that, in M. Night Shyamalan's much-discussed thriller featuring a psychologist (Bruce Willis), a disturbed and disturbing child (Haley Joel Osment), and a famous "shock" ending that we won't spoil — though you probably know it already. Peacock, Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime.
'Ghost' (1990)
The ghost: Patrick Swayze. The widow: Demi Moore. The medium: Whoopi Goldberg. The revelation: pottery. Who knew it was sexy? This iconic '90s film may or may not be a classic of supernatural love. But it's certainly Hollywood's greatest advertisement for ceramics class. Max, Roku, Spectrum TV, Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV, Redbox.
'Beetlejuice' (1988)
Leave it to Tim Burton to tell a ghost story from the ghost's point of view. In this case, about a ghostly couple (Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis) who hire an ectoplasmic exterminator (Michael Keaton) to rid their house of its human pests. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! There, we've said it. Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV.
'Ghostbusters' (1984)
Who could resist Slimer, Zuul, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? Apparently only Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd — which is why they had to be called in in the first place. This monster hit earned a place in comedy history, but — heretical opinion — we prefer "Ghostbusters II" (1989), with its demonic spirit Vigo (Norbert Grupe), a sort of ectoplasmic Vlad the Impaler, and his nutty enabler Dr Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol, borrowing the Polish accent of his "Sophie's Choice" co-star, Meryl Streep) who warns the heroes that to Vigo "you are like the buzzing of flies!" USA Network, OXYGEN, SYFY, Bravo, E!, Prime Video, ROW8, Apple TV, Vudu.
'Poltergeist' (1982)
This Tobe Hooper/Steven Spielberg shocker goes a bit over the top in the last act. But the early scenes, involving a nice suburban daddy (Craig T. Nelson), his nice normal family, and his sweet little daughter (Heather O'Rourke), who gets sucked into the TV set, are notably creepy, and Zelda Rubenstein is unforgettable as the medium with the happy message: "All are welcome in the light!" Max, Philo, Prime Video, Apple TV, Vudu or Redbox, or on TCM 12:30 a.m. Oct. 18.
'The Shining' (1980)
Just because you're dead, doesn't mean you don't have to earn a living. In "The Shining," Stanley Kubrick's epic rendering of the Stephen King novel, the ghosts include butler Grady (Philip Stone) and bartender Lloyd (Joe Turkel), who do their best to make homicidal Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) comfortable as he plots to murder his wife and child in an empty, snowbound hotel. Kubrick brought a new twist to ghost movies: all the scary stuff happens in broad daylight. Which makes it worse. Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, and Vudu.
'The Fog' (1980)
"It's not the fog. It's what's in the fog!" Carcinogens? No — it's the ghosts of an evil ship's crew lurking within the creepy mist that blankets Point Reyes, California. John Carpenter's flashlight-in-the-face ghost yarn, starring the inevitable Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis, is good spooky fun. Prime Video, Apple TV or Vudu.
'The Haunting' (1963)
Even ghosts gotta live somewhere. Hence, the Haunted House — one of Hollywood's favorite pieces of real estate. This one is especially nasty, with its middle-of-the-night pounding, cold spots, and a memorably unstable spiral staircase. Naturally, the 1999 remake (both are based on Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House") upped the shocks — and naturally, no one talks about it. Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV, or on TCM 1:30 a.m. Oct. 21.

'Carnival of Souls' (1962)
This unique low-budget chiller, featuring a haunted amusement pier, has a twist that out-Shyamalans M. Night Shyamalan. Recommended. Amazon Video, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, Microsoft Store, Apple TV.
'The Innocents' (1961)
Two sweet children. A spunky governess. But this isn't "The Sound of Music." Because these kids are haunted by evil spirits. Or else the governess is losing her mind. And either way, this gorgeously photographed, subtly spooky rendering of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw" is probably the best ghost movie ever made. Deborah Kerr's performance is a tour de force. Netflix, Amazon, Vudu.
'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' (1947)
Is a ghost your ideal mate? eHarmony might not think so. But Hollywood has occasionally thought otherwise. The best of all the otherworldly love stories is probably this one — about an independent-minded widow (Gene Tierney) circa 1900, who is romanced by the ghost of a cranky sea captain (Rex Harrison). It sounds trite — but the movie has a depth and melancholy that is hard to forget. A lot of it has to do with the seaside setting, and Bernard Herrmann's exquisite music. Prime Video, Apple TV or Vudu or TCM 8 p.m. Oct. 20.
'Dead of Night' (1945)
This omnibus film of the uncanny — a sort of dry run for "The Twilight Zone" — includes several ghost stories. Best of all is the convalescing patient, and the ghostly hearse driver who calls up to him: "Just room for one inside sir!" Guess who, a week later, is driving the bus to take him home from the hospital. iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu.
'The Uninvited' (1944)
It sounds like a problem for Miss Manners. But it's actually a problem for Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey, whose lovely seaside house on the Cornwall coast is plagued by ghostly sobbing, inexplicable cold drafts, and the scent of Mimosa that was associated with the murderess who lived there years before. Hollywood's first attempt at a "serious" ghost movie — though mild by today's standards — still holds up pretty well. TCM 11:45 p.m. Oct. 20.
