![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-collage](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-collage-630x394.jpg)
Modern daysailers
1. saffier se 33 ud.
Saffier Yachts now has eight designs between 21ft and 37ft. The investment and knowhow the Hennevanger brothers have put into the production facility really shows too – the vacuum-infused builds and finish quality are top class.
Saffier builds seaworthy designs , tests all new models thoroughly in the North Sea and ensures its yachts can be sailed easily single-handedly.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Saffier-33-SE](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Saffier-33-SE.jpg)
Launched in 2014, the Saffier Se 33 is a sporty design but with a practical self-draining cockpit and optional solid sprayhood, which help it handle most weather conditions. It has a fast underwater shape, a generous sailplan and a fixed carbon bowsprit. The extra-large cockpit features 2m benches and a folding transom and there is space enough for four to sleep below.
Saffier’s brand new Se 27 also looks like a seriously fun design and has been averaging speeds in the mid-teens with the kite up, clocking over 20 knots in its early trials this spring.
Prices for the Se 33 start at €114,500 (ex. VAT).
2. Domani S30
The S30, launched in 2018, is Belgian company Domani’s first model – a trailable sportsboat designed to be comfortable, fast and beautiful, says founder Michael Goddaert.
Inspired by Riva’s Aquarama motor boat , it has a large minimalist cockpit, spacious aft sunbed and a classy-looking compact interior. The narrow-beamed S30 weighs only 1,700kg, is offered with a long, two-part carbon rig, and has an electric drive as standard. A Lounge version is being developed which is similar to the Tofinou 9.7 in terms of deck layout.
Price ex. VAT: €88,000.

3. Black Pepper Code 0.1
Those lucky enough to have sailed at Les Voiles de St Tropez may have seen these neo-classic daysailers from chic brand Black Pepper.
As well as this range of Code-branded daysailers/weekenders, the yard has just launched a new Sam Manuard-designed, scow-bowed IMOCA 60 for Armel Tripon’s Vendée Globe campaign.
The original Code 0, by Marc Lombard, is a high-performance dayboat with a distinctive squared coachroof, which is built light in carbon and epoxy with half its displacement in the keel bulb.
A new Code 0.1 version (pictured) launched last year, and is available in Open and Spirit (performance/regatta) versions.
Price ex. VAT: £148,000.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-A-Yachts-A27](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-A-Yachts-A27.jpg)
4. A-Yachts A27 / A33
A-Yachts founder. Michael Gilhofer helped to develop the original B30 (pictured below) and was distributor for B-Yachts in Germany for 17 years. He commissioned the in-demand Lorenzo Argento, who formerly worked with Luca Brenta, to design a new range of luxury daysailers built in Slovenia and finished in Austria.
The first two A-Yachts models (the A27 is pictured above) are focused on performance daysailing, whereas B-Yachts has gone for more cruising comfort below. An exciting new model, the A39, is due for launch in 2021.
Prices ex. VAT: A27 €98,500, A33 €215,000.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-B-Yachts-B30](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-B-Yachts-B30.jpg)
5. B-Yachts B30 / B34
The Brenta B30 is the iconic Italian daysailer. A real looker to keep berthed at your Portofino residence, it has a lightweight carbon/epoxy build and a high ballast ratio, for tantalising light airs sailing. B-Yachts is the brand that took the daysailing concept to the limit with the fiendishly indulgent (and very white) B60, which we tested, open-mouthed, back in 2008.
Although stagnant for some years, the company was acquired by Luca Brenta’s cousin Alberto Castiglioni in late 2018. Brenta, along with designer Alessia Lee, has worked up the design for a new B34 model due to launch this year, and they are now working on a B40.
The B30 (above) is now a modern classic, with more than 40 built, but the refreshed company has made some upgrades including a new rudder profile, fixed bowsprit, revised deck gear, a more functional interior and the option for an electric engine. But it’s still got those killer lines.
Prices ex. VAT: B30 €118,000, B34 €190,000.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Esse-330](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Esse-330.jpg)
6. Esse 330
This is the sixth model from Josef Schuchter’s yard on Lake Zurich, which builds fast, stiff and sporty designs. The new 330 is the first Esse that offers the ability for weekend/overnight sailing. Schuchter told us it is designed more for pleasure sailing than racing but has the same performance as the yard’s 990, using a 1m shorter mast and with greater stability and comfort.
Umberto Felci designed the 330 with a self-tacking jib, a carbon deck-stepped mast with no backstay and a high ballast ratio to help ensure it can easily be sailed short-handed. A lifting keel reduces draught to 1.55m and an electric drive is offered.
Price ex. VAT: €134,000.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Flax-27](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Flax-27.jpg)
A plumb stem and square coachroof give an alluring pilot classic style to this Judel/Vrolijk design, but it is the materials from which it is crafted that are most intriguing. Built by Bremen-based Greenboats, the flax (plant) or linen (fibre) is vacuum-infused with bio epoxy and can be given a clearcoat finish to help show off the fibres.
The focus is on weight-saving for this performance daysailer, using recycled PET as the core material. The deck is made from cork, the ropes are made entirely from recycled plastic bottles and the sails are recyclable.
Price ex. VAT, ready to sail: €126,000.
Modern-classic daysailers
8. eagle 38.
The Boersma brothers founded Leonardo Yachts in the northern part of the Netherlands to build top quality gentleman’s daysailers and weekenders.
Its range of gorgeous designs are inspired by the timeless lines and overhangs of the J Class , but with modern appendages.
The new Hoek-designed Eagle 38 is the smallest of a range that now extends to 70ft. It is devised for easy handling, with jib winches in reach of the helmsman/tiller, in a deep self-draining cockpit that can seat six in comfort.
The varnished mahogany interior can sleep three and includes cooking facilities and a neatly hidden toilet.
Price ex. VAT: €177,500.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Wallynano-MKII](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Wallynano-MKII.jpg)
9. Wally Nano MkII
Wally stunned us with the unveiling of its incomparable Nano in 2009. The Andre Hoek-designed masterpiece certainly elevated the standard of extravagance (and price) for a daysailer. This Wally Nano MkII model released eight years later is a refined version of the achingly cool design, which marries Italian styling with Dutch workmanship and ingenuity.
A pilot cutter-influenced plumb bow, bowsprit and low, squared coachroof set off a retro style, finished by an elegantly overhanging counter. These classic lines meet contemporary construction and attention to detail at Joop Doomernik’s traditional Dragon building yard. The top class composite work includes a keel grid built from 33 layers of carbon. Believe me, the result on the water is a truly intoxicating ride, both upwind and down!
Price ex. VAT: €390,000.
10. Rustler 33
The Stephen Jones design has the elegant lines and overhangs of the Cornish yard’s earlier Rustler 24, but with a comfortable handmade interior that makes it enticing to overnight on too – there is a proper heads compartment including wet hanging area.
With the addition of stanchions, this becomes a Class B offshore yacht. It’s a stiff boat to sail with a deep, dry cockpit, in which it is comfortable to sit, perch on the chunky coaming or stand to handle the tiller.
Rustler says recent clients for the Rustler 33 are ordering them with carbon masts and electric engines.
Price ex. VAT: £165,000.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Morris-29](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Morris-29.jpg)
11. Morris 29
Fusing S&S lines with modern lightweight materials such as carbon and epoxy, the Morris 29 is a quintessential daysailer that’s easy to rig and maintain, a witch to sail and is as handsome as they come.
And there’s a deep, long cockpit and comfortable saloon below to keep any guests content while you hog the tiller. Now built by Hinckley and priced from US$266,500.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-alerion-33](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-alerion-33.jpg)
12. Alerion 28 / 33
Cleverly marketed as ‘the 90-minute’ getaway, the iconic Alerion daysailer fleet, from 20-33ft, is designed to get people afloat easily and with the most enjoyment possible. Above is the Alerion 33.
Often seen sporting optional Hoyt jib booms, the models are easy and a delight to sail and have inviting and well-finished interiors.
Rarely do beauty, speed and single-handed ease combine this fluidly and successfully. Prices are available on application only.
![best day yachts best-daysailer-yachts-Friendship-40](https://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2020/07/best-daysailer-yachts-Friendship-40.jpg)
13. Friendship 36 / 40
The elegantly timeless look of the Friendship 40, its classic lines, including pronounced tumblehome and wineglass counter, are by Rhode Island’s Ted Fontaine. A Friendship’s deep cockpit and wonderfully inviting and well-appointed interior invite you to sail on through the weekend and beyond.
Fontaine says both the 36 and 40 are still available to order, but at top prices: “The Friendship 40 would be built by Yachting Developments in New Zealand where the moulds are presently stored,” (priced in the region of US $1,350,000).
“And the Friendship 36 is being offered as a cold-moulded wood epoxy built boat that would be built by Rockport Marine in Maine – the yard that built the first 36.”

14 Great Pocket Cruisers in 2023
- By Victor Tan
- Updated: July 20, 2023
Pocket cruisers and mini yachts are generally vessels under 50 feet in length overall, and can include express cruiser designs, flybridge yachts as well as either monohull or catamaran hull forms. They are cruising boats easily handled by a small, or even shorthanded, crew. Pocket cruisers generally have wave-taming hull designs and have the ability to take on sporty seas, offer comfortable accommodations belowdecks with one or two staterooms for extended voyages, “homelike amenities,” and the ability to cruise as slowly or as quickly as an owner desires with inboard- and outboard-power options. These pocket-cruising boats have the range for longer voyages , can pull up in skinny water at the sandbar thanks to shallow drafts, and head over the horizon where cruising adventure awaits. Pocket cruisers are true multitasking yachts. When it comes to family and couples cruising, it’s hard to beat a well-built and well-equipped and pocket cruiser.
Best Cruising Boats Under 50-Feet
The following 14 pocket cruisers and mini yachts are all vessels we’ve seen, been aboard, and tested. They are listed in no particular order.
- Hood 35 LM: high-tech, family-friendly pocket cruiser
- Galeon Yachts 375 GTO: mid-size boat with plenty of below-deck space
- Aquila 42: sleek power catamaran ready to entertain
- Azimut Verve 42 : small, yet mighty yacht ready for open water
- Hinckley Yachts 35: luxury picnic cruiser with range
- Beneteau Gran Turismo 45: sleek cruising yacht with all the amenities
- Solaris Power 48 Open: eye-catching power yacht with 360-degree views
- Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS: luxury cruiser yacht with powerful outboard options
- Back Cove 34O: modern outboard power combined with classic Downeast styling
- Picnic Boat 40: speedy and fuel-efficient vessel with great looks
- Aquila 36: comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt
- Boston Whaler 350 Realm: multitasker built for fishing and entertaining
- MJM 35z: sporty, aesthetically pleasing, cruising-conscious features and elegant lines
- Greenline 39: sturdy-looking lines and environmentally-friendly power
When Android co-founder, Rich Miner, wanted a new family-friendly pocket cruiser , he turned to a custom-penned C.W. Hood design and a Lyman-Morse-built 35-footer, which has a timeless Down East profile matched to seriously modern technology under the hood.
This yacht looks like a traditional, cold-molded Down East dayboat, but actually, it has everything, from Hamilton HJX Series water-jet drives to a planned Sea Machines autonomous command-and-control system . Top speed: 40-plus knots.

Galeon Yachts 375 GTO
Even the remnants of Hurricane Ian, couldn’t dissuade the Galeon Yacht 375 GTO from its cruising mission. The small yacht’s wave-splitting hull form is paired to torque-filled 600 hp Mercury Verado outboards , giving this fun-in-the-sun boat a 47-knot top hop.
The 375 GTO is a speedster, to be sure, but it’s also so much more. Just about every aspect of the main deck seating is transformable and multifunction, from the aft seating to the alfresco dining abaft the helm, and beyond. It also has a family-size and eminently cruise-worthy belowdecks space for four guests, all while providing a foredeck entertaining lounge too.
The Galeon Yachts 375 GTO ticks all the boxes for an easy-to-handle and sporty cruiser.

Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran
Following the success of its 44-, 54- and 70-foot power catamaran models, Aquila has launched the stable-as-a-table, owner-operator-ready Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran .
The Aquila 42 is the entry point into the builder’s yacht line and is noteworthy for its ability to accommodate anywhere from a two- to four-stateroom layout, depending on the owner’s cruising requirements. There are alfresco spaces to manage the sunset cruise with friends and family, including a foredeck lounge area that can be accessed via centerline steps from the flybridge. The Aquila 42 is available with several Volvo Penta diesel-engine options .

Azimut Verve 42
Want to cruise from Florida to Bimini in about an hour? The Azimut Yachts Verve 42 can do that thanks, in part, to triple 450 hp Mercury Racing outboards and a hull designed to dice-and-slice a seaway. Top hop: 45 knots. The Verve 42 also has style for miles with a fine entry, raked hardtop, and a razorlike sheerline accented by sweeping hull glass from bow to stern. It’s striking.
With accommodation for a family of four, the Verve 42 is also solid under the hull tokeep everyone safe on those passages. The Verve 42’s hull is built of fiberglass and uses vinylester resins for blister protection. The yacht’s deck and hardtop are comprised of carbon fiber for strength without added weight. This all means that the Azimut Verve 42 is built to CE Classification Type A , making it suitable for sea voyages where winds can exceed 45 mph and seas to 13 feet.

Hinckley Yachts 35
The Hinckley Yachts 35 takes everything that yachtsmen like about this pedigreed-brand’s classic profile and infuses today’s modern outboard power to create 40 knots of sheer fun wrapped in sheer luxury.
This 35-foot Hinckley is built on a Michael-Peters-penned hull form with a fine entry, wider-than-average chines and a moderate deadrise. While the boat is built to sprint when desired, it’s also a relatively economical cruiser. For instance, a comfortable 24-knot cruise the Hinckley Yachts 35 has a 276-nautical-mile range.
It also has a tech-build thanks to vacuum-infused carbon-fiber composites and epoxy resin. An integrated interior structure is infused with the hull adding rigidity. The hull is then post-cured in an 80-foot oven, further strengthening the structure.

The Gran Turismo 45 ’s cruise-centric layout includes two staterooms and two heads belowdecks, as well as a galley down. There is also a dinette for meals and a settee for rainy-day lounging. Entertaining guests and enjoying the sun is the primary mission of the main deck.

Solaris Power 48 Open
The Solaris Power 48 Open was the first powerboat from this longtime builder known for its sailing yachts, ranging from 40 to 110 feet length overall. The Solaris Power 48 Open is notable for its wave-slicing plumb-bow design, high freeboard forward and 32-knot-plus speed. Power is twin 480 hp Volvo Penta IPS650 diesels.
The high freeboard keeps the deck dry and help creates sizable volume belowdecks with an average 6-foot-6-inch headroom. This enables real estate for either one or two staterooms. With the single-stateroom setup, there is a forepeak master stateroom while an L-shaped settee converts to sleeping accommodations for family or occasional guests. Interior wood options are oak or walnut.

Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS
Outboard-power cruising aficionados will appreciate the triple-engine options for the Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS . The 42 GLS we got aboard had the triple 400 hp Mercury Verados , which produced a top hop of 45 knots, but triple 450 hp Verados are available. Triple 350 hp Mercury Verados are the standard engine option. No matter the power arrangement, this express cruiser can easily be used for wakeboarding and tube towing. The 42 GLS is designed to handle the rough stuff too, with a fine entry and 21-degree transom deadrise.
For cruising enthusiasts, the 42 GLS has a master stateroom with an athwartships and a nearly queen-size berth, and the lower salon’s U-shaped dinette converts to a queen-size berth for the kids.

Back Cove 34O
Combining modern outboard power with classic Downeast styling, the Back Cove 34O touts award-winning standards with cruising in mind. The 34O is equipped with twin 300 hp Yamaha outboards, engines that allow the Newport International Boat Show’s 2018 Best Powerboat Under 35 Feet winner to travel up to 214 nautical miles at 24 knots on a 250-gallon fuel tank.
Belowdecks, the 34O has an island double berth and a split-head arrangement with the toilet to port and a separate shower stall to starboard. On the main deck, a U-shape dinette to port accommodates four or more guests on the Back Cove Yachts vessel. The 34O’s galley is equipped with a Cuisinart microwave, a two-burner Kenyon electric cooktop and a Vitrifrigo fridge and freezer.

Picnic Boat 40
Hinckley Yachts unveiled its first Picnic Boat more than two decades ago. Now, after two previous, sub-40-foot models, the Maine-based boatbuilder has developed its largest and most advanced model to date: the Picnic Boat 40.
Twin 480 hp Cummins diesel engines paired to twin Hamilton 322 jet drives propel the yacht to a 30-knot cruising speed and 34 knots on the pins. With optional twin 550 hp Cummins diesels, cruise and top-end speeds jump to 35 and 38 knots, respectively.
There is an L-shaped settee with a table and a wet bar on the main deck to port. The helm station is forward and to starboard with a benchseat for two. There is also a companion seat across from the helm. Belowdecks, there is 6-foot-2-inch headroom, and the dinette table drops to form a California-king berth for overnights and weekending.

Aquila Power Catamarans started its line with 44- and 48-footers, and now the builder’s Aquila 36 takes the line into the midsize market.
The 36 features a single, main-living area from bow to stern, helped in part by the vessel’s 14-foot, 7-inch beam. The boat can comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt. Several Mercury Verado engine options are available for the Aquila 36, including twin 250-, 300- and 350-hp four-strokes. With the 350s, the Aquila has a top-end speed of 37 knots.
Other notable features include a fiberglass hardtop, a dinette, a cooktop, a fridge, a sink and a smokeless grill. Belowdecks, there are two staterooms with nearly queen-size berths, en suite heads and 6-foot-6-inch headroom in each.

Boston Whaler 350 Realm
From fishing and entertaining guests to diving and overnight cruising, Boston Whaler ‘s 350 Realm is a multitasker. And it’s fast, too. It’s powered with either triple 300 hp or triple 350 hp Mercury Verados. The 350 Realm can reach a top speed of 46 knots.
At the helm, two Raymarine displays provide vital navigation data. The captain can take in the displays’ view from a doublewide helm seat. There’s a flip-down platform for standing when needed and a footrest when desired.
There is a V-shaped berth that converts into a double berth with a filler cushion. The separated head has a VacuFlush MSD and a hot-and-cold shower. Owners also have the option to add a microwave and a flat-screen TV.

The 35z has a flush-deck layout and to port is space for an electric grill, a baitwell, a sink, an ice maker and a fridge. There are two Stidd helm seats—one for the helmsman and the other for a copilot—that rotate to face the rest of the seating aft. In the cabin is V-shaped seating forward that can be converted to a berth.
Owners also have the option of adding a Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer and a full-length Bimini top to shade the cockpit.

Greenline 39
Greenline Yachts ‘ vessels are aptly named for their environmentally friendly means of moving about; the Greenline 39 is no different. The Slovenian yacht manufacturer produces two types of this model: hybrid and solar.
If owners opt for the latter, the 39’s four solar panels atop the salon power all of the vessel’s systems for three hours. With the power of the sun, the 39 can achieve a max speed of 6.5 knots and a cruising speed of 4 knots. The hybrid type uses those same panels to help power a 220 hp Volvo Penta D3 with a Mahle electric-drive system. Owners have the option of replacing the standard engine with a 370 hp Yanmar 8LV diesel.
Belowdecks, scissor berths provide accommodations for long weekends.

10 Day Cruisers Loaded With Downeast Personality
Find your next downeast runabout, perfect for boating in new england. .
This post was updated on January 14, 2021.
Written by, Ed McKnew, PowerBoat Guide Founder
The growing popularity across the country of Downeast-style cruisers has been enjoyable for many boating traditionalists to watch. Much of that popularity can be traced back to 1994 when Hinckley introduced the classic 36 Picnic Boat, a beautiful Downeast day cruiser with unique waterjet propulsion and open-air seating for a small crowd.
The Picnic Boat was a huge success for Hinckley , and it wasn’t long before other, mostly New-England builders followed with a variety of new Downeast runabouts under 30 feet that caught the attention of buyers across the country. The Downeast-style runabouts profiled below consist of eight-under 30-foot cruisers with a large cockpit and seating for six to eight people — often called “ Day Boats ” by boating enthusiasts. Half are from well-known builders with an entire line of Downeast models to choose from. The rest come from smaller builders, mostly in New England where the Downeast boats originated many generations ago. (Mainship, unfortunately, is out of business — the original Mainship, that is — but they once had the distinction of being the only high-volume manufacturer of Downeast boats in the business.)
All of the models featured here have single-diesel power, and all are built on seaworthy hulls with a deep keel offering at least partial protection to the rudder and prop. When it comes to construction, some brands are more high-tech than others. Downeast Runabouts are a niche segment of today’s express-boat market. In general, these are semi-custom boats meaning that customers have wide latitude in setting the boat up to meet their own needs. Locating a well-maintained used Downeast Runabout isn’t as easy as finding a used Sea Ray Sundowner — for those with patience, however, the wait is usually worth the effort.
1. MJM 29z | Production Years 2007-Current
![best day yachts MJM 29 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/MJM-29-1.jpg)
An extremely popular New England cruiser — roomy, fuel-efficient, and tons of character. Offered in three configurations; Down East with roll-up side windows, the Express with extended side windows (pictured above), and an outboard version of the Express able to hit 50 knots with 250 Yamahas. Kevlar/E-glass/epoxy construction with Corecell laminate is vacuum-bagged for exceptional strength and rigidity.
The perfect boat for cruising and weekending wraparound lounge seating in the cockpit for eight. Upscale cabin with cherry cabinets, convertible settee, galley, and the enclosed head is striking for its elegance and simplicity. Stidd helm chair, opening front windshield panels, bow thruster, teak-and-holly cabin sole are standard. Lightweight, easily driven hull burns just over 3 gallons per hour at 22–24 knots with single Volvo diesel — very impressive.
2. Hinckley Talaria 29R | Production Years 2003-Current
![best day yachts Hinckley-T29 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Hinckley-T29-1.jpg)
Distinctive jet-driven runabout with varnished mahogany topsides is the perfect balance of beauty, craftsmanship, and performance. The cockpit — with its teak helm console, Nardi steering wheel — is reminiscent of an old-time sports car. Seating for ten includes a full-width transom seat, L-shaped lounge (with teak table) forward, aft-facing settee molded into the engine box. The varnished cherry cabin includes a V-berth forward and VacuFlush toilet.
A teak swim platform and bow thruster are standard. The engine box lifts at the touch of a button for access to the engine. A fully cored composite hull is Kevlar-reinforced for strength. The shallow draft is a plus in skinny water. Note transom tumblehome. Cruise at 25 knots (30+ top) with Yanmar 440hp engine with the Hamilton Jet drive and JetStick controls.
3. Back Cove 26 | Production Years 2005-2009
![best day yachts Back-Cove-26](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Back-Cove-26-1.jpg)
Best-selling pocket cruiser combines traditional Downeast styling with versatile deck layout and single-diesel economy. A large aft cockpit with a storage lazaretto below offers plenty of space for socializing with friends and family. Below, the cherry interior boasts a forward dinette that converts to sleep two comfortably.
Aft of the dinette to starboard is an enclosed head with shower, and on the port side is a small galley with refrigerator, stove, and sink. Wide side decks and cockpit jump seats are a plus, and a bow thruster was standard. The entire helm deck lifts for engine access. The Back Cove 26 was available in an open bass boat style or with a pipe-supported hardtop for protection from the weather. Exceptional fit and finish throughout. Cruise at 22 knots (mid 20s top) with a single 260hp Yanmar diesel.
4. Fortier 26 | Production Years 1977-Current
![best day yachts Fortier-26 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Fortier-26-1.jpg)
Classic Eldredge-McInnis design combines Downeast and bass boat styling elements in what the builder calls “an honest sea boat for fishing and cruising.” Full keel and skeg offer protection to the shaft and rudder; hull spray rails keep the deck dry. A wide 10-foot beam provides a spacious cockpit and space below for a small cabin with a V-berth, marine head, icebox, and butane stove. Note the distinctive teak windshield.
A hardtop and fish box have been popular options. Cockpit engine box can be used as seating. The Fortier’s hull is fully cored. Two 50-gallon fuel tanks below the cockpit deck provide a cruising range of 200–250 nautical miles. At 6,500 pounds, the Fortier 26 is no lightweight. Among several engines offered over the years, a single 200hp Volvo inboard diesel offers cruising speeds of 16–18 knots.
5. Albin 28 TE | Production Years 1993-2008
![best day yachts Albin 28 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Albin-28-1.jpg)
Mega-popular Downeast-style cruiser/ sportfishing boat with hardtop and flared bow was one of the most successful boats in her class. A cockpit engine box was standard until 2003 when a Flush Deck option moved the engine forward, opening up the cockpit in a big way. Wide side decks make getting around easy and safe.
Belowdecks, the 28’s roomy interior features a full-service galley with fridge and microwave, standup head with shower, mid-cabin berth aft, and a convertible U-shaped dinette forward. A teak-and-holly sole was standard, and six opening ports provide good cabin ventilation. Note wide side decks. Bow thruster was standard. Rugged, reasonably priced, fuel-efficient, and easily maintained — the Albin 28 is a terrific all-around boat with a strong following. Nearly 1,000 were built.
6. Hunt 29 Surfhunter | Production Years 2004-Current
![best day yachts Hunt-29 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Hunt-29-1.jpg)
A beautifully finished 29-footer with classic Downeast lines — the Surfhunter draws a crowd everywhere she goes. Superb deck layout for entertaining features L-shaped settee with varnished wood cocktail table adjacent to the helm seat, aft-facing cockpit seat, removable stern seat. In spite of the engine box, the cockpit is big for a boat this size.
Belowdecks, the varnished teak interior comes complete with a convertible dinette, galley with stove and refrigerator, and enclosed head with sink and shower. Built in limited numbers, the Surfhunter 29 is available in express, convertible, or hardtop (pictured above) configurations. Most have been sold with a single sterndrive engine, gas or diesel, with a jackshaft connecting the lower unit. An outboard version became available in 2015.
7. Legacy 28 Express | Production Years 1998-2008
![best day yachts Legacy 28 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Legacy-28-1.jpg)
One of the most graceful and popular pocket cruisers of recent years — over 100 were built. With a generous 9’6″ beam, the Legacy’s cockpit and helm deck combined offer seating for 8–10 passengers. Visibility from the elevated helm is excellent (note the high windshield). The side decks are on the narrow side, and a full-width bench seat aft precludes a transom door. Belowdecks, the interior is clean simple but extremely well finished.
A convertible dinette is forward, enclosed head with shower to starboard, and fully equipped galley to port — basic accommodations for a weekend getaway for two. The cabin has six feet of headroom and is finished in cherry joinery with a teak-and-holly sole. A teak swim platform was standard, and a bow thruster and teak transom was a popular option. Cruise at 22–23 knots with a single Yanmar 315hp diesel.
8. Mainship Pilot 30 Sedan | Production Years 1999-2008
![best day yachts Main-30-Pilot-Sedan for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Main-30-Pilot-Sedan-1.jpg)
The Hardtop version of the original Mainship 30 Pilot is known for distinctive retro styling, large cockpit, and fuel-efficient operation. Don’t look for much glitz in the Pilot—this is a basic boat with modest amenities and good-enough workmanship. The interior was originally set up with a V-berth/dinette forward, full-service galley, good-sized head, and a teak-and-holly cabin sole.
In 2003, the updated Series II Pilot featured an updated cherry interior and a revised cabin layout with a V-berth that folds in half when not in use. The Series II also incorporates a shortened keel, propeller tunnel, and larger five-blade prop. Cruise at 14–15 knots with 170hp Yanmar diesel. Series II models with a 315hp Yanmar cruise at a steady 17–18 knots (low 20s top). Mainship sold a ton of these boats.
9. Dyer 29 | Production Years 1957- 2 008
![best day yachts Dyer-29 for sale](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Dyer-29-1.jpg)
Classic New England utility boat introduced in the 1950s. Offered in several variations over the years including hardtop, bass boat (above), and cuddy configurations. Durable semi-displacement hull with soft chines and prop-protecting keel offers legendary open-water handling.
Owners of these boats tolerate the tight cabin quarters and intrusive engine box while delighting in the fingertip control of the 29’s easily driven hull. (Newer models have the engine under the bridge deck which, by eliminating the engine box, results in a more open cockpit). Hull construction has remained largely unchanged over the years although the fiberglass covered plywood and solid fiberglass decks and deckhouses of early models have been replaced with modern fiberglass composites and balsa coring materials. A single 200hp diesel will cruise at 14–16 knots.
10. Eastern 27 Islander | Production Years 2013-Current
![best day yachts Eastern-27](https://cdn.denisonyachtsales.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Eastern-27-1.jpg)
From her classic Downeast lines to efficient use of deck space, the 27 Islander combines traditional styling with the popularity of outboard power. Ideal for coastal cruising, fishing, and family outings on the bay. Semi-enclosed pilothouse with sliding side windows features a two-person settee to port and open-air galley with sink and refrigerator abaft the helm.
A cushioned bench seat at the transom seats three comfortably (an aft-facing cooler seat is optional.) Cabin accommodations include a settee/V-berth with removable pedestal table forward, storage cabinet, enclosed head with shower and electric head. A mid-berth under the helm deck offers additional sleeping capacity or storage. Hull is cored above the waterline. Cruise at 20-22 knots with Yamaha 250hp bracket-mounted outboards.

More than a party boat: Rise of the day boats
- March 23, 2023
Jeanneau, Sunseeker, Galeon, Fairline, Sunreef and Swan are among a diverse range of builders who have recently entered the luxury day boat market, which has grown rapidly in the Med and Florida. But will such boats also prove popular in Asia?
![best day yachts](https://i0.wp.com/yachtstyle.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/1-Jeanneau-DB_43-Jerome_KELAGOPIAN-1551.jpg?resize=900%2C600&ssl=1)
Designed by Camillo Garroni, the DB/43 is Jeanneau’s first luxury day boat
With over 250,000 boats around the world, Jeanneau has a client database that most other builders can only dream about. Part of the Groupe Beneteau collection of yacht brands, the French shipyard doesn’t create new series on a whim. Its Cap Camarat range of open outboard models marked its 40th anniversary last year.
Its Leader series started in 1985, yet this line of open inboards has been discontinued to make way for Jeanneau’s new DB Yachts range of day boats, which started with the DB/43 last year and has been bolstered by the DB/37 that debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January. DB stands for day boat and was also the name used for a series of day boats Jeanneau launched in the early 1980s.
Day boats are nothing new. Vincent Piel, Jeanneau’s Powerboat Product Marketing Manager, says “every boat can be a day boat”. However, the luxury or premium day boat – open designs with large aft decks dedicated to social entertaining – has risen dramatically in recent years, led most notably by Scandinavian, Dutch and Italian brands such as Fjord, VanDutch and Wajer.
When Jeanneau premiered its DB/37 at Boot in Hall 5, dedicated to ‘superboats’, neighbours included Pardo, Invictus, Frauscher, Solaris Power and Sacs Tecnorib, while the likes of Nimbus, Axopar, Brabus Marine and Saxdor were in Hall 4 for ‘motor boats’.

The DB/37 debuted at Boot Dusseldorf in January
For Paul Blanc, Jeanneau’s Brand Director, the premium day boat market is here to stay and reflects a notable change in the market.
“For us, the clear trend in the market is that people are increasingly using their boats as day boats, whatever the size, whatever their budgets. Whatever the size of boat you can afford, the trend is that you’re going to go out for one day, come back to land and play, and go for dinner in the marina,” says Blanc, who spent 16 years in Asia including 10 as Jeanneau’s Asia-Pacific Sales Director.
“That means that people have a different need than they used to have. The traditional express cruiser is a boat that’s great for a family to go island hopping and spend a week or two cruising, but that sort of usage is disappearing.
“Instead, people want a big entertainment platform with a lot of space. They go out to an island for the day, they go there fast, they go there in style, then they come back. That really is the trend and that’s why we found the market for the Leader series was slowly decreasing.”

The DB/43 (pictured) and DB/37 are offered with inboard or outboard engines
In contrast to some other famous brands moving into the luxury day boat sector, Jeanneau is reaching upwards for clients in terms of budget. The DB/43 is Jeanneau’s most expensive motor boat, even pricier than the far more voluminous Merry Fisher 1295 Fly, yet Blanc’s confidence seems well founded. The new flagship has already sold out well over a year’s worth of production, which is a significant achievement when you can produce an average of one unit per week.
“This new trend of day boating includes a lot of clients who come with significant budgets, so we can offer a more premium product. These clients with big budgets may decide they don’t need a big flybridge boat anymore and prefer to downsize to a sports boat or a luxury day boat, or just have another boat,” Blanc says.
“Of course, the DB/37 is significantly more affordable, so the potential for sales is even greater and will potentially appeal to a much greater spectrum of clients.”
With luxury day boats often seen as party platforms for groups of friends enjoying the summer season, Blanc has previously stated that Jeanneau’s aim was to bring “a bit more rationality to a market segment that’s not the most rational, because it’s party boats before anything else”.

The DB/43 is about flexibility and practicality
Jeanneau has a long history of producing family-friendly boats and Blanc says the DB models differentiate themselves from competitors by offering versatility and accommodation suitable for extended trips.
“We’re trying to bring an offer in the luxury day boat segment that’s still quite rational because we offer an interior capable of taking you for a week of cruising. With DB, we have a sexy design with a good entertainment platform, but offering you a bit of rationality in that market. That’s why we say it’s ‘more than you expect’. It can do much more than you think.”
FLYBRIDGES TO DAY BOATS
In contrast to Jeanneau, a luxury day boat is at the smaller end of some builder’s portfolios. Italian builder Azimut caters to the sector with its Verve 42 and 47 open-style outboard cruisers, primarily targeted at the US market. British yard Fairline moved into the open sector with the high-speed F/Line 33 in 2019, adding an outboard version in 2020.

Azimut’s Verve 42 offers a fold-down bulwark and high performance
Galeon launched its Grand Touring Outboards series in early 2021 by debuting the 325 GTO through US dealer MarineMax before adding the 375 GTO last year.
Sunseeker is also among major brands entering the luxury day boat segment and started this year by unveiling the Superhawk 55, arguably the most dramatic world premiere at Boot Dusseldorf.
The British shipyard, whose core business is flybridge motor yachts, revived the name of Sunseeker’s high-performance Superhawk series that spanned over a decade from the mid-1990s, but has created a model in fitting with today’s demand for useable deck space, flexibility and comfortable accommodation.

Sean Robertson, Sunseeker’s long-serving Sales & Marketing Director, says: “At this size range, the luxury day boat is the biggest growth sector. Day boats have changed and they’re attracting everybody from existing owners coming up through the range to people new to boating.
“They’ve almost become watersports platforms. Whether you’re going to the restaurant, swimming, wakeboarding, using the tender or Seabobs, whether it’s with family or a group of, friends, its primary use is as a watersports base. People are realising what they can do with this type of boat – go places quickly, enjoy your watersports, but also have a cruise for four or five days when you want to.”
Robertson says Sunseeker has benefited from observing the recent growth of the sector and tracking other models, “seeing what works and what doesn’t”. It also appears to have joined the market at just the right time, judging by early sales of the Superhawk 55.

Sunseeker’s Superhawk 55 is a response to a growing day boat market
Demand has been so overwhelming that the Poole shipyard has dedicated its Willis Way facility solely to the production of the Superhawk 55, with an anticipated output of 35-40 units a year. It’s an impressive early return for the brand’s new ‘entry model’, especially as it’s still priced in a similar ball park to the Manhattan 55 flybridge and Predator 55 EVO™ cruiser.
“It’s important for us to have new clients coming in, although buyers aren’t just coming from other brands. We’re also getting people who have larger yachts, Sunseeker or otherwise, viewing it as a second boat. The demand for the Superhawk 55 seems to be coming from all angles,” Robertson says.

Fairline moved into the open day boat market with the F//Line 33
“Obviously, our Manhattan range works well for flybridge models, but this type of open layout [on the Superhawk 55] is what many people are now buying as first-time boats. It’s for clients looking to make that next step up, still focused on that day boat space and entertainment concept, plus with the comfortable saloon and cabins below. I think we’ve got a good balance with this model.”
CATAMARAN, SAILING YACHT BUILDERS
The market is even attracting catamaran and sailing yacht builders. Sunreef is renowned for its increasingly large and luxurious flybridge sailing and power catamarans, as well as its new Eco range of solar-electric versions, announcing two orders for its 140ft-long 43M Eco sailing cat.
Back in 2018, the Polish builder debuted the 40 Open Sunreef Power at the Dubai International Boat Show before taking the model to the Singapore Yacht Show and Cannes Yachting Festival. However, it may have been a few years too early.
![best day yachts](https://i0.wp.com/yachtstyle.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/9-Sunreef-ULTIMA-5.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)
Sunreef has developed the Ultima series
Demand has been far greater for the 55 Open Sunreef Power, whose sales soared soon after its design was announced at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last October. Sunreef has since announced a 45 model, before announcing that it’s developing a full Ultima series, with two bigger models to come.
Even Swan, one of the world’s most famous sailing yacht builders, moved into the open day boat sector by launching its first-ever motor yacht, the 43ft Shadow, in 2021, a full 54 years since the brand was founded in Finland. At this year’s edition of Boot, the Swan Shadow was among the ‘superboats’ on display in Hall 5.
Nautor Swan says at least 15 units have been sold and delivered in Europe, US and Asia, while the Finnish builder is now expanding its motor yacht range with the Overshadow, which will premiere at Cannes in September.
Roy Capasso, Commercial Director of Nautor Swan’s motor yacht division, said: “We developed the motor yacht division with Swan Shadow because the yard wanted to broaden the range of vessels to offer to our clients.
![best day yachts Luxury, Day Boat, Jeanneau, Sunseeker, Galeon, Fairline, Sunreef, Swan, Azimut, Wally, Mediterranean, Florida, Asia, Hong Kong, Singapore, 375 GTO, 325 GTO, F//Line 33, Cap Camarat, Verve 47, Verve 42, DB yachts, DB/43, DB/37, Vincent Piel, Paul Blanc, Sean Robertson, Della Pearce](https://i0.wp.com/yachtstyle.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/10-Swan-Shadow_25.jpg?resize=900%2C599&ssl=1)
The 43ft Swan Shadow is Nautor Swan’s first motor yacht
“She was born as a shadow boat for superyachts but quickly gained an own identity as a weekender or tender for a waterfront house, as she meets the needs of every owner with her customisation possibilities. She was born to fill the void of a multi-purpose yacht of 43ft.”
DAY BOATS FOR ASIA
In contrast to the Med and Florida, the market in Asia has long shown a preference for flybridge models with extensive air-conditioned indoor areas. However, Capasso believes the Swan Shadow and other open day boats can make headway in this region, stating that an air-conditioning system can be set up in the cockpit, if requested.
“We truly believe Swan Shadow will be successful in Asia as it’s the perfect way to reach every destination in complete comfort,” he says. “Her customisation possibilities allow every customer to choose the version they want, including a long hard top with sun awning and bimini that offer complete coverage from the sun.”
Wally is also among one of the world’s most renowned builders of luxury sailing yachts and superyachts, which it has built since 1994, before moving into the open motor yacht market with its first wallytender in 2001. The brand’s tagline, ‘20 Years Ahead’, again appears appropriate considering the popularity of such models in the last few years.

In its new era under Ferretti Group, Wally released the wallytender48 in 2019 and added the wallytender43 in late 2020, with each model followed by an outboard version that debuted in the US market. Asia’s first wallytender43 was sold by Hong Seh Yachting and delivered to Singapore early last year before the second unit in the region arrived in Hong Kong in the summer.
Meanwhile, the iconic brand publicly debuted the wallypower58 at last year’s Venice Boat Show before the model made its US debut at the Miami International Boat Show this February. The wallypower58x outboard version then had its world premiere at the Palm Beach International Boat Show late March.
Della Pearce, Director of Hong Seh Yachting, the exclusive Singapore dealer for Ferretti Group brands Ferretti Yachts, Riva and Pershing, believes open day boats do have a future in Asia despite the traditional preference for flybridge designs plus a remarkable number of new clients who can choose a superyacht as their first boat.
“The market has experienced a growth in 24m-plus motor yachts in the last few years, but we’ve also seen a rising interest in the luxury day boat sector,” says Pearce, who is also Director of Hong Seh Marine, which represents brands including Sunreef.
![best day yachts Luxury, Day Boat, Jeanneau, Sunseeker, Galeon, Fairline, Sunreef, Swan, Azimut, Wally, Mediterranean, Florida, Asia, Hong Kong, Singapore, 375 GTO, 325 GTO, F//Line 33, Cap Camarat, Verve 47, Verve 42, DB yachts, DB/43, DB/37, Vincent Piel, Paul Blanc, Sean Robertson, Della Pearce](https://i0.wp.com/yachtstyle.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/12-wallytender43-sg-IMG_0949.jpg?resize=900%2C506&ssl=1)
The first wallytender43 in Asia was delivered to Singapore in early 2022
“There’s an increasing variety of water toys such as Seabobs, e-foils, jet surfboards and others that boat owners are interested in, so there’s a need for a more spacious platform to accommodate these.”
As noted by leading builders moving into the sector, there also appears a market for luxury day boats as a second yacht, providing greater ease for quick and easy trips to destinations yet with the option of staying for several days.
“We’re seeing owners investing in luxury day boats to complement their larger motor yachts, as they can be a shuttle boat between shore or marinas, as well as a support boat for some to transport the toys and even provisions in some cases,” Pearce says.
“Interior areas and comfort are also important on these boats, along with the flexibility to entertain and cater for large groups, as seen in some new models like the Wallytenders and upcoming 55 Open Sunreef Power.”

Jeanneau DB/43 offers an entertainment platform
Blanc is also convinced that there’s a market for such boats in Asia because despite the impressive average size of luxury motor yachts in marinas in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and the region’s other key yachting hubs, the primary use of such boats is day cruises.
“I think day boats are suitable for Asian markets because that’s typically the usage, as owners have always focused more on day boating rather than long-time cruising, even more so than in Europe and the US,” Blanc says.
“Also, the boating is very social, not as family oriented. It’s often corporate entertaining or with a lot of friends, with 12-15 people on board, which is ideal for these premium day boats with these nice entertainment areas and large cockpits with opening terraces.”

Best Day Boats: Top Choices for Day Cruising
![best day yachts best day boats](https://www.discoverboating.com/sites/default/files/best-day-cruising-boats.jpg)
Day cruising is an activity that will be fun for virtually everyone stepping aboard a boat, whether you’re probing the quiet coves of one of the 10 best lakes in America , or the plan is to visit one of the best coastlines for cruising in a saltier climate. And truth be told, you can use virtually any boat for day cruising. But, which will be the best?
![best-day-boats best day boats](https://www.discoverboating.com/sites/default/files/best-day-boats.jpg)
Finding the Best Day Boat
Whatever the destination might be, choosing the ideal boat for your aquatic adventures depends on a number of factors. Before making any decisions, ask yourself these key questions:
- How many people do you plan to have aboard?
- Will you be in sheltered waters, or do you feel the urge to cruise out into open bays, lakes, or the ocean? And, what types of waterways are close to home?
- How far might you want to go on your day cruises?
- Will you go day cruising in all different weather conditions, or only when it’s nice out?
- Is the cruise your favorite part of the experience, or are you more interested in arriving at new destinations in short order?
Explore Day Cruising Boats
Day Cruising with a Crowd
If you have a big family or lots of friends you plan to entertain, your day cruises are likely to include a large number of people and obviously, you’ll need a bigger boat. Here are some good options for larger crews:
- Pontoon boats are large enough to hold more than a dozen passengers, and they make great platforms for exploring places like lakes and small bays.
- Although in the past most bowriders were on the small side, these days there are also some very large models—even some over 30 feet in length—which can hold a huge crew.
- You may want to consider cabin cruisers , which tend to be on the bigger end of the size scale and have lots of capacity plus indoors accommodation.
- You could even day cruise in a motor yacht or power cruiser , with multiple families and large crowds of friends.
Where Will You Go Day Boating?
The type of waterways you’ll visit should play a big role in just what kind of boat you choose. It’s very different cruising in and around New York City , for example, then it is to take a trip down a river in middle America.
One big factor here is to make sure the boat you choose is appropriate for saltwater use , if you’re going to use it in bays or the ocean . But also consider factors like average water depth and how much draft (clearance above the bottom) a particular boat needs, and how large the seas you’ll likely encounter may be. Factors like these may end up dictating where you can and cannot visit on your day cruises.
And on top of those factors, consider whether the boat will live in a slip or marina, or if you plan on towing and trailering . If you can trailer the boat your horizons are more or less endless, but size restrictions and your tow vehicle’s capacity will limit the size and weight of the boat you can choose.
![best-cruising-boats best cruising boats](https://www.discoverboating.com/sites/default/files/best-cruising-boats.jpg)
How Far Do You Cruise?
One issue that limits the cruising ability of many smaller boats, like cuddy cabins and inflatables , is fuel capacity. But boats may burn more or less fuel depending on how hard you run them and the sea conditions you encounter. So, when considering a boat’s range, most boaters always figure in a 10-percent fuel reserve.
To calculate range, multiple fuel capacity by 0.9, then multiply the remaining figure by how many miles per gallon the boat gets at cruise. Conservative captains like to make sure there’s an even wider margin of safety, and many go by the fuel-rule one third out, one third back, and one third in reserve.
Will You Be Cruising in Bad Weather?
![boats-for-day-cruising boats for day cruising](https://www.discoverboating.com/sites/default/files/boats-for-day-cruising.jpg)
If you’re a fair-weather boater who won’t leave the dock when it’s raining, then owning an open boat is no problem. But if you’ll be determined to go boating even when the weatherman’s report is less than ideal, getting a boat with some protection is a good idea. That doesn’t necessarily limit you only to cabin boats.
- Center consoles , for example, can be equipped with T-tops or may have a small enclosure inside the console that you can duck into.
- Smaller boats like deck boats or even some aluminum fishing boats can be at least equipped with a Bimini top to offer some shelter when the weather turns for the worse.
- At the other end of the extreme, day cruisers in places like the Pacific Northwest, where it rains quite often, will opt for designs like trawlers that put more emphasis on enclosed areas and often have awnings or convertible tops sheltering the cockpit.
Best Day Cruising Boats for Your Lifestyle
For some people just getting there is half the fun, and if it’s the cruise you enjoy then a boat that travels at a slower pace—maybe a sailboat —will be ideal. On the other hand, if you want to hit the throttle and get there asap, high performance boats might be more your speed.
What does all of this boil down to? The best boat for day cruising, and the day cruises you’ll enjoy the most, all depend on your personal tastes and style. The ideal day cruiser for one person may be a completely different type of boat than the best day cruiser for another. Consider all of these questions as you choose your own boat, however, and you should be able to pick out the one the best fits your needs.

Ranking Top New Pocket Cruisers and Daysailers of 2022:
True to its name, Cruising World Magazine gives out an annual award for the best pocket cruiser / daysailer. In competition this year were 27 different boats looking to be recognized as the best in their market.
In an unusually competitive year for pocket cruisers and daysailers, the team of independent judges were put to the task of deciding between three hot vessels: the Tartan 245, the J/9, and the Beneteau First 27.

Best Daysailers:
The Tartan 245 was intentionally rigged to enable students to practice more fine-tuning and racing operations on a small scale.
In contrast, the J/9 positioned itself for unadulterated enjoyment of an afternoon of stress-free sailing. She boasts a cockpit that’s plenty long to sleep in (see picture for scale) yet thoughtfully managed to enable ease of sailing.

Beneteau First 27
With the J/9 and the Tartan 245 fitting nicely into their respective niches, the third boat looked to sail away with Cruising World’s award for best daysailer pocket cruiser of 2022. The Beneteau First 27 is a race-ready sport cruiser, delivering thrilling performance in a comfortable, well finished package.
This boat was originally named the Seascape 27 but has been revamped by Beneteau into an award winner.
Respectable in all capacities, the First 27 boasts a nicely proportioned cockpit of her own. A large and open cockpit welcomes you with comfortable benches, a removable indoor/outdoor table and a swim ladder with a shower on the stern. The First 27 cockpit is designed with versatility to give sailors the option to comfortably sit inside or on top of the cockpit.

With a surprisingly large cabin below, the First 27 can sleep up to 6 adults, with 2 in the bow cabin and up to 4 in the openly spaced salon.

The Beneteau First 27 is designed with plenty of room for crew
Thanks to innovative, foldable magnetic doors, the midsection can be converted into a proper marine toilet with a black water tank or used as a front cabin extension.
In the end, it was the little things that swayed the judges. “The fit-and-finish for the price point is at a different level,” judge Gerry Douglas said. “The equipment level was higher.”
Reviewing Best New Daysailers of 2022:
Tartan 245 vs. j/9:.
The Tartan 245 was originally conceived as a training boat for sailing schools. J/Boat’s J/9 is an unabashed daysailer, meant to provide exciting spins around the harbor, even under mainsail alone.
Tartan 245 vs. Beneteau First 27:
Obviously, the Tartan is smaller, and more geared towards an afternoon sail or instructional sailing. Meanwhile, the First 27 has a roomier and more finished cabin, a serviceable head, galley and berths, and a Yanmar diesel. and multiple places for crew or a family to sleep below. A couple could easily liveaboard for short periods of time, as well as expect to seriously compete in regattas.
J/9 vs. Beneteau First 27:
The two boats compete on purpose, with the J/9 being geared towards sailors who want to relax and enjoy time on the water by themselves or with family and the Beneteau First 27 being a versatile sport cruiser capable of competitive racing as well as some live-aboard accommodations.

15 Best Luxury Yacht Builders and Shipyards in the World

In this article we will list 15 best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world . You may be interested in searching for 15 Best Boat/Yacht Insurance Companies Heading into 2024 , too.
Luxury Yacht Builders Rebound Post-Pandemic
According to a study from the Italian Marine Industry Association and Deloitte , the global new build yachting market has reached €33 billion ($35.9 billion) during the industry boom in 2022. This marks an 11% increase from the year before, and a CAGR of 10% since 2014. Increasing prices, along with increasing demand from customers, has been responsible for this positive growth. According to the study, Europe and North America are the biggest consumer groups, taking up 70% of the total market share. Italy remains at the top in yacht building, generating €4.4 billion in yacht production value for 2022.
Despite the positive growth, superyacht sales have taken a dive in 2023, the new SuperYacht Times’ State of Yachting report indicates. Long wait times, rising costs, and the exclusion of Russian oligarchs from the superyacht market have all led to this decline. There were 203 superyacht sales in 2023, down from 245 in 2022, and from a record 313 in 2021. A buyer placing an order for a new yacht over 200 feet today has to wait three to four years owing to backlogs from the pandemic. Orders for yachts between 200 t0 600 feet have experienced the most decline, by 40%, largely since the rich buyers from Russia are dropping out of the market. Despite the drop in new sales, yacht completions have been up. According to SuperYacht Times, there are now nearly 6,000 super yachts, triple the number in 2022.
It wasn’t simple to make a list of the world’s best yacht builders and shipyards in the world, especially now when it seems that the superyacht business has regained its momentum. Following the pandemic’s upheaval, boat builders have resumed normal operations. There are now 173 small yacht manufacturers and large builders in 25 countries working on at least one yacht larger than 24m. Every year, around 400 boats larger than 24m are supplied to their owners by luxury yacht companies that specialize in yacht categories or product segments that distinguish them from other commercial shipyards. Experts believe that there are currently around 5,000 boats larger than 24 meters navigating the world’s oceans.
The Netherlands and Germany leads the yachting sector in terms of providing yachts larger than 50m with high volume and value. Some other yacht builders in the world include those in Turkey, Asia, North America, South Africa, Oceania, and Brazil. Turkish shipyards are now building motor and sailing yachts out of GRP and steel, North America has turned its focus on semi-custom motor yachts, Asia is known to be a hub for production series motor yachts made from GRP, while the top builder nation Italy excels in larger yachts and more customizable options.
When it comes to the US, United States Luxury Yacht Market is expected to reach USD 4.45 billion in 2024 and grow at a CAGR of 8.25% to reach USD 6.61 billion by 2029. On the list of yachth-related companies, Marine Max, Inc. (NYSE: HZO ) is a known name, with a $750 million market capitalization. The total enterprise value is $1.76 billion. The corporation is headquartered in Florida and employs an estimated 2,666 people. In the United States, the company has a significant market share in at least one area as a boat dealership and repair company, where they account for an estimated 6.4% of total industry sales. They are classified as an All-Star and one of the best luxury yacht brands because they have a higher market share, profit, and revenue growth than their competitors.

Methodology
To compile a list of the premier luxury yacht builders and shipyards globally, we undertook a comprehensive comparison of leading companies with those recognized for producing the most esteemed and high-value yachts. Our methodology involved cross-referencing top-rated yacht lists with data on their builders. By aggregating the frequency of mentions across lists such as IYC Yacht, YachtWorld, Elite Traveler, amongst others; we established a preliminary ranking. Subsequently, we assessed these companies based on the prominence of their yachts on industry-leading rankings and their annual revenue. This analysis revealed that the top-ranked companies distinguished themselves not only through frequent appearances on prestigious lists but also through exceptional performance across various metrics.
At Insider Monkey we are obsessed with the stocks that hedge funds pile into. The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter’s strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 275% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 150 percentage points ( see the details here ).
This is how our list of the best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world looks like.
15. Princess Yachts
Insider Monkey Score: 2
Princess Yachts was founded in 1965 in a modest industrial unit on Newport Street in Plymouth. Since then, Princess has become one of the top luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world. South African businessman Graham J. Beck bought the company in 1981. In 2001, Marine Projects changed their name to Princess Yachts International PLC. Princess Yachts operates in 119 countries and employs over 3,200 people worldwide, with shipyards totaling over 1.1 million square feet.
14. Perini Navi
Perini Navi specializes in superior craftsmanship of some of the world’s largest super sailing yacht builders. Their constant growth in the design, engineering, and construction of aluminum superyachts has propelled them to the industry leader in the large, custom super sailing yacht sector. Fabio Perini started Perini Navi in 1983 in Viareggio, Italy. Unable to find a huge sailing yacht that he could run alone, Fabio founded a firm to build and engineer his own vessel, launching a prototype sailing yacht with plenty of living space that could be sailed with a smaller crew. In 2021 Perini Navi became a part of The Italian Sea Group which increased the portfolio in 2023 to six companies.
13. Delta Marine
In 1967, brothers Jack and Ivor Jones launched Delta Marine on Seattle’s Duwamish River. The shipyard initially focused on producing fishing boats that could withstand the frequently harsh waters of the Pacific Northwest and became one of the best small yacht brands. Delta Marine’s success in the fishing industry inspired the shipyard to create luxury expedition ships capable of transporting their customers north to Alaska, west to the Pacific islands, and around the globe. Delta Marine shifted their focus to custom superyachts in the 1990s.
12. Fincantieri Yachts
Fincantieri Yachts, an Italian shipyard and now one of the best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world, has been around since 1780. The first shipbuilding enterprise was founded in Castellammare di Stabia, and it served as the foundation for the world-renowned corporation. By the mid-twentieth century, the business had become part of the state-owned IRI and was in charge of the country’s primary shipbuilders; Fincantieri Yachts was established as a separate branch in 1984. The shipyard has established itself as a multifaceted entity. Fincantieri’s facilities are now building military ships, including submarines, passenger and industrial vessels, as well as a new market area, megayacht construction, which began in 2005.
11. Royal Huisman
Royal Huisman is a Dutch shipbuilding company that specializes in the new build, refit, rebuild, and renewal of sailing and motor yachts. The shipyard in Ronduite was founded in 1884 to produce wooden workboats and fishing boats. Jan Huisman began building steel sailing boats in 1954, and his son Wolter converted to aluminum hulls in 1964 with the 30 ft Van de Stadt Avenir series. In celebration of the shipyard’s 100th anniversary in 1984, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands bestowed the title “Royal” to Huisman, renaming the company Royal Huisman.
10. Sanlorenzo
Insider Monkey Score: 3
Sanlorenzo Shipyard has been producing high-quality motorboats since 1958. It is a yachting boutique enterprise that produces only a small number of custom yachts each year. Each boat is custom-designed and built to meet the owner’s exact needs, style, and preferences. The shipyard’s headquarters are located on the banks of the Magra River, within the Montemarcello-Magra Natural Reserve, near Ameglia, province of La Spezia, Liguria, Italy. Since its founding, the firm has manufactured just roughly 1000 ships, each one special and unique. Since 2005, the organization has adopted a fresh approach to personalization and innovation. As a result, the shipyard has expanded significantly. Over the last eight years, the company has gradually established itself in Boat International’s annual Global Order Book rating.
9. Blohm & Voss
The German shipyard Blohm+Voss was named after its founders, Hermann Blohm and Ernst Voss, who chose to join forces in 1877 to construct steel steamers. Hermann Blohm and Ernst Voss, the founders of the Blohm & Voss-Werft, rose to prominence far beyond Hamburg. Unfortunately, after several dismal seasons in the 2000s, the company discontinued creating new yachts. As part of Lürssen, the shipyard will no longer manufacture boats, but will continue and even increase its yacht refit, commercial, and military building activities. The firm is on this list because their boats are consistently on the list of the best boats, and three of their boats are among the best ever built.
Insider Monkey Score: 4
Heesen Yachts is one of the best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world, being a Dutch shipbuilding firm that specializes in custom-built superyachts. Founded in 1978, it has launched over 200 yachts, several of which have received prizes. It is recognized as a global leader in the design, construction, and engineering of all-aluminum boats. After a string of popular and pricey boats, 1988 proved to be the yard’s breakthrough year. American entrepreneur John Staluppi had commissioned the yard to build a superyacht capable of speeds exceeding 50 knots. Heesen expanded in 2003, the same year it introduced its 3700 and 4400 yacht series, which were among the first examples of superyacht building on a shared hull and engineering platform.
7. Abeking & Rasmussen
Abeking and Rasmussen is a luxury yacht constructor that specializes in big custom motor yachts constructed from steel. The company has previously built sailing boats, maritime vessels, and swath vessels. Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen formed the company in 1907. The business began producing navy warships such as torpedo boats, minesweepers, and submarine destroyers. Later, the firm began constructing speedboats and sailing yachts. The yard has a reputation for pioneering new technologies, having manufactured some of the world’s most technically advanced yachts. Many of the projects they have created are notable for overcoming technical engineering obstacles, such as Germania VI in 1963, the first sailing yacht with a welded aluminium hull, and the 1972 motor yacht Kalamoun, the world’s fastest at the time, hitting 46 knots. The Krupp Foundation still owns their latest yacht, Germania VI.
6. Ferretti
Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti, brothers from Bologna, Italy, expanded their family’s successful luxury auto business, which marketed Maserati and Lamborghini, by opening a yacht dealership in 1968. The Ferretti brothers initially marketed other boat builders, but during the Genoa Boat Show in 1971, they debuted their first yacht design, a 10-meter wooden motorsailer. Ferretti boats, the first member of the Ferretti Group of international luxury yacht brands, manufactures semi-custom composite boats in Forli, Italy, ranging in size from 16 to 29 meters. The Ferretti Yachts 960 type, introduced in 2013, is the largest planing luxury yacht ever built by any of the Ferretti Group shipyards. Ferretti Group is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2022 and debuted on Euronext Milan, the Milan-based stock exchange owned by Borsa Italiana. In 2023, the company became the first and only company in the world to achieve dual listing in Asia and Europe which qualified the company for the list of the best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world.

There is no ranking of the top yacht companies or boats that does not include Lürssen as one of the best in its area. Lürssen, a German shipyard with headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack and shipbuilding facilities in Lemwerder, Berne and Bremen-Fähr-Lobbendorf, has been a leader in marine innovation since 1875. Lürssen, which built the world's first speedboat and some of history's most renowned superyachts, including Azzam, Limitless, and Dilbar, is currently run by fourth-generation family members who are carrying on their great-grandparents' legacy. Lürssen was created by Friedrich Lürßen, a 24-year-old German boatbuilder who learned about the industry from his father Lüder Lürßen, who also owned a boatbuilding workshop. The company's long-standing connection to shipbuilding and German maritime excellence has helped it land first place on the list of the best luxury yacht builders and shipyards in the world .

He stirred up the drama by forming multiple boatmances with many women. Gary’s behavior on the show with women was dubbed as playboy-like, while some found Gary problematic and creepy .
After Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 aired, one of the show’s makeup artists, Samantha Suarez, accused Gary of sexual misconduct . The news came as a shock to the Bravo and Below Deck universes. Since the allegations surfaced, it’s been unclear what the future holds for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 . The allegations about Gary have been out for nearly a year, and Bravo has attempted to slowly cut ties with him. Despite this, Gary’s lack of responsibility for his bad behavior may push back the air date or threaten to cancel Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Gary Is Denying The Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Gary denies all allegations of wrongdoing.
Gary denies Samantha’s allegations. On August 24, 2023, Rolling Stone released an article with details about the alleged incident. Samantha said Gary was intoxicated when she took him back to his hotel after he tested positive for COVID-19 while they were filming Below Deck Sailing Yach t. She added that he “ was behaving erratically " and physically restrained her by holding her from behind in the hotel room before releasing her. Samantha also alleged she told the Below Deck production team about the incident, and they took no action against Gary.
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht star refutes Samantha’s claims. In since-deleted comments on his Instagram, shared by Us Weekly , Gary defended himself the same day the Rolling Stone article was released. “ It’s so weird, it’s also so far from the truth. She always wanted a platform, and unfortunately, I’m the unlucky target ,” he wrote. He responded to comments about the situation on his Instagram in July 2024, writing “ never have I nor never will I ever do anything against anyone’s will ,” per Reddit User u/teleportmasssive . Gary has failed to take accountability for his actions and retains his stance on the situation.
Gary Says The Women He's Worked With Have Nothing But Nice Things To Say
Gary fought with fans on instagram.
Gary dragged his female co-workers into his feud with Below Deck fans. According to the same Reddit thread, the First Officer battled with fans in his Instagram comments. When replying to one message, Gary alleged that “ every girl I’ve worked with has only nice things to say about me thank you very much .” It’s unclear which woman he was referencing; however, his behavior on Below Deck Sailing Yacht has been questionable at times. He’s always been incredibly flirtatious towards the crew and charter guests. As the seasons went on, his conduct changed.
Gary was criticized for his boatmance with Mads Herrera in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4. The stew made it clear their relationship was a casual hook-up. Nonetheless, Gary insisted there was something more to their boatmance but backpedaled on his feelings when Mads turned him down. He tried to blame her for their hook-ups and alleged that she led him on in some way. However, the footage from Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 proved that Mads was honest about the nature of their boatmance. Gary’s always had issues with women he filmed with, though he states otherwise.
Gary Is Amping Fans Up For The New Season
Fans want gary fired from below deck sailing yacht.
Gary’s social media activity amped fans up for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. The audience is unhappy with his attempt to defend his actions . In the same Reddit thread, one user wrote, “ He will never take responsability [sic] for his behaviour or actions .” Another user said, “ Gary just doesn't get it ,” adding that “ He has horrible impulse control issues around women ” that some, but not all, people are comfortable with. If the Below Deck Sailing Yacht star wants to get on the good side of fans, he needs to be remorseful and show sympathy towards the women around him.
Will Gary Appear In Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5?
Gary will be on below deck sailing yacht season 5.
Too much controversy, Gary will likely appear in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. The season was seemingly filming when the news of Samantha’s sexual misconduct allegations came out. Despite the unfortunate timing, the Below Deck production team allegedly continued filming with Gary. Bravo removed him from a scheduled 2023 BravoCon panel, but other than that, they seem to have maintained a relationship. Gary is likely a huge part of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 storyline, and because Bravo said they investigated Samantha’s claims and found no evidence, they likely thought it was okay to continue filming.
It may have been a huge mistake to keep Gary in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 after the allegations came out. Bravo knew the risk they took when they kept him in the cast but allegedly didn’t fire him from the show. They could try to edit the season around him, but that would be difficult. Gary has been a large part of the show’s storyline since Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, and there’s no reason to believe that will change with season 5.
There have been rumors that the season will be scrapped altogether, though no official announcements have been made by Bravo.
The production team should have known these allegations would come out before they asked Gary back for another season. Instead, they’ve been accused of hiding his behavior from the public, which the Below Deck audience isn't happy about. It’s been a year since they filmed season 5 , and the future of the show is uncertain.
Despite receiving sexual misconduct allegations against him, Gary will likely be featured in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. His behavior on the show has been questionable at times, though Bravo and the Below Deck production team decided to continue bringing him back on their program. To this day, Gary is defending his behavior, which may cause the show to be canceled.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Peacock.
