At White Wake Sailing we have a course for every level, so you can learn to sail in beautiful Croatia!

Our practical courses take place in Croatia, with our base set in Marina Kremik, Primosten (Croatia), just 30 min drive from the international airport of Split. With regards to the theory part, we run a shorebased centre in Vienna (Austria), and in Milano (Italy).

Our instructors have sailed and taught for thousands of miles and hold a variety of official qualifications from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) . This is possibly the best and most respected sailing organisation in the world.

As an RYA sailing school, at White Wake Sailing we know that learning to sail can be a bit stressful at the beginning. We follow a strict ‘ no-shouting’ policy, so you can feel comfortable and at ease right from the start. You can then learn to sail without stress and at your own pace.

And at the end of an intense sailing day, we do our best to find some time for a swim in the Croatian crystal clear waters. With so many islands and bays to choose from, we are never away from a beautiful spot to drop our anchor. And what best than to celebrate a great sailing day with a cold drink in your hand under the sky? The chirping of crickets will be the only sound to gently accompany you to a well-deserved restoring sleep.

Catamaran Course

If you have always wanted to navigate a catamaran, but have never had a chance, join our Catamaran Course, and our professional skippers will teach you how to sail catamarans on your own.

Experience the difference between navigating a sailing yacht and a catamaran, and feel what it is like to control these beautiful boats. After finishing our course, you will be able to charter a catamaran without hiring a skipper, as well as to perhaps buy your own!

Food and drinks. Please have in mind that the skipper eats with the crew, which is why you should provide food for them as well.
Yacht fuel - consumption will depend mostly on the time spent using the engine.
Berth in marinas (that are not Rogač - if you agree with your instructor to berth elsewhere)
Refundable deposit in the amount of 200 € per person. The deposit represents security in case of potential damage on the boat or its inventory, or in case of the loss of equipment. If there is no damage on the yacht, the full amount of the deposit is returned. The skipper is responsible for any potential damage made by operating the yacht.
Tourist tax: 1 euro/person/day

We are proud that Ultra Sailing School has been teaching sailing since 1995 . We have educated more than 1500 new sailors, so it is safe to say that we are the most experienced sailing school in Croatia! We provide top quality sailing courses and deliver international ISPA certificates .

Our school offers several types of programs:

COMPETENT CREW COURSE of the Sailing School is performed on 27ft-35ft boats , simple for handling and ideal for the first encounter with sailing and gaining the first sailing experience . The program consists of theoretical and practical classes.
DAY SKIPPER SAIL COURSE is what you need to be able to charter a boat by yourself. It is designed to make you gain experience at sea during a 6-day sailing cruise. This n avigation course is held on 36ft to 51ft Beneteau sailing boats, depending on weather conditions and number of participants. You enter a new dimension of your sailor journey and experience , night navigation, sailing in all conditions, cooking on board, navigation safety, leaving and entering port, setting anchor and everything you need for future independent sailing and cruising. Competent Crew certificate or proof of corresponding sailing level is required to access this course.
COASTAL NAVIGATOR COURSE This course has specific attention to navigation and ground knowledge of all navigational aids we need to safely navigate the boat in unfamiliar waters. Individual briefings will be every day after the program to discuss every situation in further detail.
FAMILY SAILING COURSE is ideal for spending active time with your family . These courses are less intensive than the basic program but offer a great first encounter with sailing . Family sailing course is held on comfortable sailing boat, starting with Beneteau Oceanis 35 , designed for a family of 4-5 with an instructor.
DISCOVER SAILING is a 2-4 day sailing program without theoretical classes, held on one of our Beneteau range sailing boats. In three days sailing you can experience sailing and check if this activity is for you. This program is ideal for all those who would like to spend active holidays in Split.
SPORT CHARTER is an intensive sailing adventure in summer with a skipper. It is held on Beneteau First 36 equipped with regatta sails.

REGATTA SAILING

Participate in regattas with Croatian renowned sailors: Regatta Mrduja, the Vis regatta, Barcolana, Jabuka, Christmas Regatta….. We have prepared for you Beneteau First 36 , the famous regatta-cruiser. Equipped with modern navigation systems and regatta sails for skipper training .

We share with you our theoretical and practical knowledge and enable you to sail independently on 6-15 m long sailing boats. You will become, step by step, a sailor who respects the sea and has confidence to operate any sailboat safely with friends and family.

Ultra sailing school is also a community. Through our programs you will get the chance to meet other sailing enthusiasts. Croatia is one of the most famous and beautiful locations in the Mediterranean, with hundreds of islands and ancient villages that cascade down to the sea. Join us aboard a sexy new catamaran or monohull for a week as you learn how to sail and earn your ASA certifications (ASA 101, 103, 104 and 114 are offered). An amazing place to embark on your own sailing journey.

How far in advance should I book my course with Nautilus? The further in advance the better as boat and captain availability fill up well in advance.

CHALLENGING

Very difficult, sample itinerary and map.

Fly into the Split airport (airport code SPU) and catch a taxi to the UNESCO world heritage town of Trogir. Trogir is a spectacular town set on an island! Visit the old fortress, grab lunch in one of the old plazas and board the boat at 5pm. We will get situated and head in for a delicious meal in Trogir.

Do a chart briefing, systems overview and check all the equipment on the boat. After some boat drills, set sail for the island of Solta, a couple hours away. After some swimming and relaxing, do your first formal lessons aboard.

After a detailed look at engine operation and maintenance, learn how to sail! You'II learn points of sail, sail theory, and then head out to practice your sail trim. Sail down the coast to the famous town of Hvar. Get your first experience med mooring! We then hop in a water taxi to explore and grab dinner in the historic city of Hvar.

After a brief morning lesson, and our first ASA test, we once again pop the sails and set sail for the island of Vis. Tonight we stern tie to the riva (boardwalk) in Vis, and have a chance to wander the streets of this lovely old town. We love to go wine tasting in an old World War II bunker here!

This morning we head out and get a chance to sail to a remote bay for lunch, working on our sailing drills and skills along the way. After a swim and a lunch break, we sail back to Vis and pick up a mooring off the old town and head ashore for another delicious seafood meal.

Chart a course and set sail for the east end of the island of Solta, several hours away. This will be a fun passage! By this point you will be in charge of all the charting, navigation, sail trim and be the captains for this leg. Upon arrival drop the anchor in a lovely little cove, explore the beach, or go for a paddle board session.

We weigh anchor early and start the sail back towards Trogir. We will stop for an early lunch at a pristine anchorage and then do docking practice back at the marina. Friday night we will go out to celebrate all the new captains, then spend that final night on the boat.

We are off the boat by 8am and you are free to fly home, or take a couple of extra days to explore the rest of this beautiful area!

RYA Courses

The RYA or Royal Yachting Association is the UK national governing body and is widely known for offering some of the finest sailing courses in the world. These internationally recognized qualifications, delivered by certified instructors, provide a structured learning path that combines theory with hands-on experience, ensuring you have the skills to sail anywhere. All courses are run over 6 days (Sunday to Friday) at a maximum ratio of 5 students to 1 instructor and will take you to a different harbour each night, a perfect way to experience the islands and coasts of Dalmatia while learning all the skills you need to sail your own yacht.

Split, Croatia, is a vibrant city boasting a historic center built within a Roman palace. From Split,the central Dalmatian islands beckon sitting to the south. Brac, the largest, is known for its Zlatni Rat beach, a windsurfer’s paradise. Hvar, the sunniest island, offers charming towns, lavender fields, and a jet-set atmosphere. Vis, untouched for decades due to military use, now entices with secluded coves and a slower pace.

Hugging the mainland coast north of Split, you’ll find charming towns like Trogir with its medieval core and Makarska with its dramatic Biokovo mountain backdrop. Tucked between them, wedged between Split and Makarska, lie Primošten and Rogoznica. Primošten, with its historic core clinging to a peninsula, offers stunning beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. Rogoznica, a harbor town, caters to boaters with its marinas and coves, but also boasts beaches and a laid-back charm. Continuing northwest, the Krka National Park unfolds, where the Krka River tumbles over waterfalls and creates turquoise lakes, perfect for a refreshing dip before reaching the historic town of Skradin.

Weather & Sailing Conditions

Summer in Split brings predictable winds perfect for sailing. The dominant wind during this time is the Maestral. This northwesterly wind picks up gently around mid-morning, steadily increasing in strength until the afternoon before dying down towards sunset. Sailors love the Maestral for its consistent force and clear skies it usually brings. Split basks in sunshine and warmth from May to October, with highs averaging from the mid-20s Celsius in shoulder months to the low-30s Celsius in peak summer.

Lovely weather and great winds are just ones of the reasons the Dalmatian islands make such a great area to train.

Small Islands

Our training yacht in Split is the Dufour 44 Performance ‘Pyrolyse’. This versatile 14-meter (44ft) yacht is perfect for beginners and experienced sailors alike, offering easy handling, comfortable living space, and exciting performance in all wind conditions. Master stress-free maneuvers and experience the joy of sailing on this exceptional training yacht.

Cabins & Sleeping

Pyrolyse features three cabins, two at the back of the yacht with a shared heads/bathroom and a larger ensuite cabin in the bow which has a double bed and 2 bunks. The starboard aft cabin is reserved for the instructor. All cabins feature a number of hatches and fans to provide lovely ventilation and full bedding for different periods of the season. The saloon also converts into a double bed and this is available for a £50 discount with no single supplement.

Shared Spaces

The interior of the yacht is light and airy with a large seating area, a fully equipped galley/kitchen and a navigation area. There is 12v charging available in the saloon plus 220v plugs when on shore power. Storage for soft bags is available under the seating area.

Pyrolyse has a cockpit area at the back of the yacht which offers seating and hosts a single wheel for steering. There is a bimini for sun protection and a sprayhood for foul weather. The sailing power for the yacht comes from a fully battened mainsail with a lazy bag plus a large roller genoa.

Safety is incredibly important for all sailing activities and Pyrolyse is fully compliant with RYA and local safety coding. We have inflatable lifejackets for all crew members plus a liferaft, multiple radios, jack stays, gass & smoke detectors plus other specialist safety equipment.

Getting there and away

There are a multitude of ways to travel to our training base in Split, whether you are joining us for the week or combining it with a larger trip. We are located in ACI Marina Split, right in the heart of the city and 15 minutes walk from the historic city, which is easily reachable by both public and private transport. Seafarer RYA courses in Croatia run from Saturday to Saturday with the yacht being available to embark from around 15.00 onwards on the first day and disembarking around 9.00 at the end of the course.

Your flight inclusive course with us (should you choose this option) is financially secure as we are ATOL licensed, making the entire package ATOL protected. We have been trading since 1995 so you can book with total confidence.

Direct Saturday flights to Split Airport from London (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton & Stansted) Manchester and Bristol along with other European airports. Wide range of flights available during the week.

Split ferries go from the main port located together with the bus and train station to the southeast of the historic centre, 20 minutes walk from the base. Direct ferries are available to all nearby islands and onwards to Dubrovnik. International ferries are available daily to various Italian ports.

Direct trains to Split Station, located with the bus station 20 minutes walk from the base, from Zagreb and other Croatian destinations. Great value overnight trains available in the summer from Budapest where you can link to services all over Europe.

Bus & Taxi

Seafarer transfers available from the airport to the base that take 45 minutes and prices start at £40pp return. Local buses from Split centre are available all over the metropolitan area including the airport and Trogir. Long distance buses go from the train station to destinations all over Croatia including Dubrovnik and to nearby local destinations.

We promise to expertly guide you through your first – and hardest – skippering steps on the RYA Day Skipper course. So you get the skills and confidence to take a yacht on your own after it. Indeed, what can be better than taking your friends and family on a nice cruise? And enjoy your sailing holiday safely, with you in charge.

This course is a perfect fit for sailors who want to move forward from being active crew members and learn how to manage the yacht and the crew. You would need Competent Crew sailing skills and theoretical knowledge of the Day Skipper Theory to be able to join and follow the course. You also need to be willing and open to learning and enjoying your first skippering steps because you’ll often be in a role of a skipper during the course.

Our experienced and patient RYA instructors – who firmly believe that anybody can learn how to skipper – will help you achieve your goal of becoming one. They have thousands of miles under their belt and helped hundreds of Day Skipper candidates achieve their goals.

You’ll spend five days living on board a brand new, perfectly clean, heated, spacious and fast sailing yacht fully equipped for comfortable cruising. We’ll also anchor in stunning bays perfect for swimming in crystal clear azure – hazards free – Adriatic sea. During the RYA Day Skipper course, we’ll visit picturesque islands and cosy Dalmatian villages with great local food and culture.

With the RYA Day Skipper certificate, you can charter a yacht worldwide. You’ll also need an RYA VHF – SRC Marine Radio certificate to charter a yacht in Croatia and elsewhere.

We sometimes combine students on a Competent Crew and a Day Skipper course. With that, you’ll be able to train how to manage the inexperienced crew!

DEHLER 38 SQ - Blue Eye

Speed meets quality and comfort.

Dehler 38 SQ is the newest model from a famous German shipyard Dehler , traditionally known for their quality built yachts. A "true performance cruiser", says the renowned Sail magazine . That means the boat is fast but has everything needed for comfortable cruising. Another review says Dehler did a great job with this model while "keeping the boat as simple to use and fun".

We needed only one short sail with our Blue Eye to confirm that all these reviews were accurate. And we're sure you'll quickly realise why she's a perfect yacht for learning sailing. She has performance Quantum sails and a sleek, sharp, sporty line, so she sails well even on light wind.

Two very responsive carbon wheels enhance the manoeuvrability and provide a good feel of the boat's movement, even more so because they control only one deep rudder. The stern is spacious and broad, so there's enough room for a swimming platform with an integrated ladder.

The cockpit is spacious, with a fixed foldable table that enables the crew to enjoy their meals and drinks on the deck under the shade of a large bimini top. It also provides enough room for active sailing, and three winches on each side - a rarity in the class - prove the yacht is made to perform. Teak wood covers the cockpit deck, and the rest has a non-skid finish.

BLUE EYE is our training yacht registered for the RYA courses , so you can be sure she has everything needed for safe sailing. Also, a radar and an active radar reflector – which makes the yacht more visible to big ships - enhance her safety. She has the latest B&G chart plotter and instruments.

She has 38 feet, around 11,4 meters. The interior has three roomy double cabins, a cosy saloon, a foldable dining table, a chart table, and a fully equipped kitchen with a sink, stove and a large fridge. There's also a bathroom with a toilet and a shower, and all wastewater goes to a holding tank. Large windows in the saloon and cabins allow natural light below the deck. The shipyard used only fine woods - teak, mahogany and oak - for the furniture, which matched perfectly with the bright upholstery.

Additionally, BLUE EYE has a hot air heating system installed to keep the crew comfortably warm after sailing in spring and autumn. She also has substantial autonomy with a freshwater tank of 295 litres, a fuel tank of 160 litres, and service batteries of 160 Ah, so she stays comfortable even on a more extended cruise.

A Legendary Past, a Devastating Blow

The iconic BEYC experienced a devastating blow in September 2017 when Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in history, wreaked havoc on the Caribbean, leaving the Bitter End Yacht Club in ruins. While many Bitter End enthusiasts were devastated to hear of the destruction Hurricane Irma left in her wake, the iconic Bitter End Yacht Club kept its loyal fans updated via its website , detailing both the damage and community efforts to rebuild this beloved BVI institution.

Having now been rebuilt and risen from the devastation of Hurricane Irma, the Bitter End’s name resonates even more with the idea of enduring and overcoming challenges – much like the sailors who venture to the farthest reaches to get there.

Objectives of Sailing Course Basic

The course begins with an introduction to the instructor and boat familiarization (Check-in) on the first day, followed by practical exercises on sailing in and out of the starting marina the next day. By the third day, participants embark on a pre-planned route, navigating to different locations each day to practice maneuvering, sailing, anchoring, navigation, and other essential aspects of boat management. Accompanied by your instructor, you’ll navigate the waters of Pula, the Kamenjak cape, and the Brijuni National Park

Throughout the program, participants reside and live on the boat with the presence of a skipper-instructor, simulating real-life scenarios encountered during a voyage. This immersive experience operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring a comprehensive learning environment.

The course culminates with a return to the starting marina on the last day, allowing participants to consolidate their skills and experiences gained throughout the journey.

The course aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills required to independently and confidently operate a vessel as a skipper within seven days. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience, participants will master boat maneuvering, navigational techniques, safety protocols, mechanical problem-solving, and skipper responsibilities. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to navigate diverse maritime environments, anticipate and resolve common challenges, ensure the safe management of a boat in various conditions, and pass the license B exam if they wish to obtain a license.
