Attention - unprofessional, fraudulent behaviour

Very poor client handling. Small damage was billed EUR 600 without any receipt/copy of invoice of what has been repaired. No more answer, no update. No need to say - never again..

Charter from Istion: "Find hidden problem or pay for it!"

Every experienced skipper knows: it is impossible to check ALL the boat before start. You never know how many problems are hidden inside engine and gear, under waterline or on inaccessible side of hull. You fill in check box "all right" (in check-in form) and leave deposit before start. And if later hidden problem will be found you have a best chance to reveal how fair is chartering company. In my case (charter 24-30.09.2022, catamaran Bali 4.1 «E.S.») there were crushed and ground plastic near anchor roller — somebody left anchor hanged and in wavy conditions it stricken a hull long-long time. This place was invisible from deck as far as from shore (catamaran was moored stern-to-shore). There was small hole from inside, but it was also invisible under chain (seems like hidden for the check-in) and hardly visible because of dirt. Of course, I have checked a bottoms on the first anchorage, as I do it usual. Propeller, rudder, than keel of one hull, than keel, rudder and finally propeller on second hull. I missed front section from below — till now I had no problem with this. And have found the problem only Thursday. During my 20 years of chartering experience I had some such a "cases of uncertainty" (who is guilty) and good chartering company always examined facts: was it possible to do the damage in such a conditions and circumstances. Because wise businessmen know how important for company's reputation is avoiding mistaken penalty. But for Istion client's money (deposit) is more important that reputation. On the check-out they organized standard "performance for client": first to postpone final decision till saturday morning (when client will be hurrying in airport); then to find "repair expert" who maid a quotation of repair exactly for summ of deposit; than to send a client for further discussion to main office (of course, online); then every your letter will be answered with a week delay... For Istion doesn't matter that in my charter conditions it was hardly possible to do such a damage — we cruised in calm conditions, maid short passages and we had to be deaf, not to hear such a hits (even under power I hear a can of beer, rolling inside of drawer, what to say about anchor!). They prefer your money in all possible ways. So, if you like risky games, Istion is your's chartering company. Be sure: if you miss any hidden problem onboard, you will be pushed to pay for it. But if you come for relaxing vacation without problem — better avoid Istion. P.S. More then 12 month have passed since Istion pushed us to pay for someone’s fail. And till now I have not received promised invoice on repairment. Not surprised — for sure, to fix anchor area (fare above waterline) with bolted stainless still plate (I have seen such a repairment) cann’t cost even 1000 euro, what to say about 3000. This is another confirmation of cheating by Istion. P.P.S. I have 8 witnesses that are ready to confirm all abovementioned facts in court.

Our experience with Istion Yacht…

Our experience with Istion Yacht charter is as follows: Booking procedure, check-in, boat handover and introduction very good, quick, friendly even with free drinks in the shade etc. - unfortunateky we have to state that the monohull sailboat Almyra is equipped for "nice - weather- sailing" only. Only small, self changing fock and only two small winches in total. These small winches are useless when there is tension on the ropes. The main sail was fine, easy to set and to bring in 1st or second reef, although reef ropes were confisely knotted, which we could fix ourselves going through heavy wind and waves.... - unfortunately no automatic lifevests were on the boat, only zhe stiff old fashiond stff floating devices that nobody wants to wear. -Electricity a total desaster! Fuses failing because of corrosion, Although two solar panels abo e the bimini we hat each evening low batteries alarm which made it necessary to keep main engin running to charge batteries. -shorepower plugin possible but FI fuse immediately cutting power of. Nice to have electric toilets that stop working without power, what a real nightmare. Also the sealings of the toilet water inlet must have been inproperly leaky as during nighttime water was leaki g into the toilet, filling ut slowly but steadily. Missing instructionsvto close the seavalve during nighttime.... So yes, the sailboat can be used for vacation with lots of compromises, but Istion shurly can do better than this. Sailing Itineraries from Volos

Volos offers some fantastic sailing for both one and two week charters and routes are usually similar to those from nearby Skiathos Island (where Istion also maintains a charter base ).

You will start your holiday enjoying the unspoiled bays and small ports of the Gulf of Volos . Further east, the beautiful green islands of the Sporades including Skiathos , Skopelos and Alonissos beckon to be visited. Sheltered and unspoiled anchorages along with sandy white beaches are a common feature of all these islands.

For those with a little more time, two week charters can include the southern most island of the Sporades, Skyros , as weel as stop along the coast of Evia .

The Sporades are well known for the Alonissos National Marine Park , the largest protected marine area in Europe. The Park includes 6 smaller islands (Peristera, Kyra Panagia, Psathoura, Piperi, Skatzoura and Yura), and is of particular scientific and cultural interest, and is ideal for free diving , wildlife observation , photography and other nature oriented activities.

The limited degree of human intervention and the excellent state of the natural environment make the landscape and marine areas of the Park an ideal refuge for many endangered species, such as the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus and various species of dolphins and whales .

Sample 7-Day Sailing Itinerary from Volos

Day 1: volos to amaliapoli (mitzela).

Begin in Volos, a city steeped in ancient myths and history, where Jason and the Argonauts embarked on their quest for the Golden Fleece. Visit seaside cafés, bars, and traditional "Tsipouradiko/Ouzeri" restaurants offering local culinary experiences. Arrange for supermarket delivery service to your yacht and explore Ermou Street, the city's commercial center. In Amaliapoli, climb the hill and admire the island-like architecture. Enjoy fresh seafood at taverns, visit beach bars, and watch the sunset from Loutraki Bay. Discover small bays with clear-watered beaches and explore the Underwater Shipwreck Museum Diving Park and marine virtual reality center.

Day 2: Amaliapoli to Skopelos

Sail to Skopelos, the largest island in the Sporades, with natural springs, pine forests, and 360 chapels, churches, and monasteries . Stroll through Skopelos town's picturesque sidestreets, dine at tavernas, and try the local "Skopelitiki" fried cheese pie. Visit the stunning beaches and film locations from "Mamma Mia!", including Milia, Panormos, Elios and many, many more. Climb 110 steps to reach Agios Ioannis church and explore the Venetian castle for panoramic views of the town and Mount Palouki.

Day 3: Skopelos to Alonnissos

Relax on Alonnissos, a haven for nature lovers and home to endangered Mediterranean monk seals and rare wildlife species. Hike to the chapel of Agion Anargyron, one of the island's most stunning spots, and enjoy fresh fish, seafood, and nut-based desserts at local tavernas. Visit Alonnissos' most beautiful organized beaches and explore small beaches in the northern part of the coast, only accessible by boat . Engage in water sports and visit the Old Village, Patitiri Village, Roussoum Yalos, Steni Vala, and Votsi.

Day 4: Alonnissos to Kyra Panagia

Visit Kyra Panagia, an uninhabited island home to endangered monk seals and the scenic Megisti Lavra monastery . As part of the Alonnissos Marine Park, the largest marine park in the Mediterranean, there are 14 diving spots to enjoy the unique natural landscape.

Day 5: Kyra Panagia to Skiathos

Experience cosmopolitan Skiathos , famous for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife. Visit beaches such as Koukounaries, Banana Beach, Lalaria, Vromolimnos, Kanapitsa, Aghia Eleni, Xanemos, Achladies, and Megali Ammos. Explore the 13th-century Venetian fortress on Bourtzi islet, enjoy the view from the café-restaurant, and stroll through the Hora's charming alleys. Sample local cuisine at traditional taverns, including "Akrogiali" and "Mylos", and enjoy cocktails and live music at "Tesla" bar on Papadiamanti Square.

Day 6: Skiathos to Paleo Trikeri Island

Uncover Paleo Trikeri Island, a small, car-free island with only 20 permanent residents. Walk or ride a mule to explore the island, and visit the fortress-like Evangelistria Monastery atop its highest peak. Relax on charming beaches like Afetka, Hagia Sophia, and Prasini Ammos, and enjoy traditional Magnesian cuisine accompanied by a chilled wine or tsipouro.

Day 7: Pagasitikos Gulf to Volos

Conclude your 7-day sailing adventure by returning to Volos, taking with you unforgettable memories from your journey through the enchanting Greek islands .
