About LURSSEN YACHTS

Lürssen is a family run yacht builder with 5 yards in Germany and headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack. Today, Lürssen is responsible for launching some of the world’s most iconic yachts and working with the yachting industry’s most coveted yacht designers and architects. The shipyard also builds naval ships, specialized custom boats and has a refit center.

RECENT LURSSEN YACHT LAUNCHES

2020 has marked an extremely active year for the shipbuilder. The 87m Project HAWAII was seen in the Baltic Sea preforming sea trials after it left the Rendsburg yard. Shortly after that, the German Naval Yard Kiel merged with Lürssen in a joint venture with goals to reinforce the efficiency and sustainability of the German naval shipbuilding industry to compete on a global level. Shortly after the merger the 90m superyacht project 1601 was revealed in Rendsburg. The technical launch of the hull and superstructure mark another great milestone for the German builder. More recently, in June, Lürssen delivered the highly secretive Project LIGHTNING. Details of Project LIGHTNING have been sparse.

LURSSEN YACHT SCHEHERAZADE

The 130-meter (426’ 6”) highly secretive yacht, Project Lightning, now called M/Y SCHEHERAZADE – was delivered early morning on June 1 st , 2020 and made its maiden voyage headed to Norway. Very few details have been released, including designers and architects. The gigayacht features 2 large helipads and a large beach club. The yacht is among the top largest yachts in the world. 

LURSSEN Project 1601

The completed hull and superstructure of Project 1601 made a splash at its initial launch on May 26 th in Northern Germany. The exterior design, by Espen Oino, revealed modern features dominated by straight lines, angular corners and planar surfaces.

The interior of Project 1601 is set to be designed by Dölker + Voges. The interior characteristics will mirror the modern exterior. Project management throughout the build will be managed by Cornelsen & Partner.

After the launch, the yacht entered Lürssen’s floating dock and will not be seen again until 2021. At the same facility in Rendsburg, another Lürssen build, Project 13800, was seen closer to completion as delivery for 13800 is set for Spring of 2021. The 53.9-meter Lürssen was commissioned in 2018 at the Monaco Yacht Show and features four decks with a pool on the aft deck.

TOP 10 LARGEST LURSSEN YACHTS

. The yard currently has 70+ superyachts in operation. Some of the more notable yachts include Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s 414-foot superyacht OCTOPUS and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison’s 453-foot yacht RISING SUN.

AZZAM 180.61-meter 2013 Lürssen at 13,136 Gross Tons. AZZAM features exterior design by Nauta and interior by Creation Line Decoration. AZZAM is currently undergoing a refit at MB92 in Barcelona, Spain.

DILBAR 156-meter 2016 Lürssen at 15,917 Gross Tons. DILBAR features two helipads, a 25 meter pool, a 30,000kw diesel-electric power plant and can accommodate 36 guests in 20 staterooms with a crew of 96!

#3 AL SAID 155-meter 2008 Lürssen at 15,850 Gross Tons. AL SAID, the 8th longest yacht in the world, accommodates up to 70 guests with a crew of 200. She was designed by Espen Oeino, and the interior design was created by RWD.

#4 A+ 147.25-meter 2012 Lürssen at 12,532 Gross Tons. Formally known as TOPAZ, the yacht's interior was designed by Terence Disdale Design and the exterior designed by Tim Heywood.

#5 SCHEHERAZADE

#5 SCHEHERAZADE 140-meter Lürssen at 10,100 Gross Tons. Also known as Project LIGHTNING, details regarding this yacht have been cloaked in secrecy.

#6 AL SALAMAH

#6 AL SALAMAH 139.3-meter Lürssen at 12,234 Gross Tons. AL SALAMAH features an exterior design and interior by Terence Disdale. She cruises at 17 knots and reaches a top speed of 21.0 kn. She can accommodate 40 with a crew of 94.

#7 RISING SUN

#7 RISING SUN 138-meter Lürssen at 7,841 Gross Tons. RISING SUN underwent a refit in 2019. She accommodates 18 guests with 45 crew members.

#8 FLYING FOX

#8 FLYING FOX 136-meter Lürssen at 9,022 Gross Tons. Features an exterior design by Espen Oeino and an interior by Mark Berryman. FLYING FOX can sleep up to 22 guests with a crew of 54. The yacht features a one-of-a-kind wellness center, spread across two decks and includes a cryosauna, hydro bath and wet massage treatment area.

#9 CRESCENT

#9 CRESCENT 135-meter Lürssen at 9,194 Gross Tons. CRESCENT was refit in Italy in 2019 and features an exterior design by Espen Oeino and an interior by Zuretti Interior Design. She has accommodations for 18 guests with 40 crew. Little is known about the yacht but it is rumored to have a glass bottom pool and 2 deck atrium.

#10 OCTOPUS

#10 OCTOPUS 126.2-meter Lürssen at 9,932 Gross Tons. Currently for Sale. OCTOPUS is an explorer style yacht with 2 helipads. Built to Ice-class 1A with a range of 12,500nm and reaching a max speed of 19 knots.

Hinckley launched its first Picnic Boat in 1994, introducing seafarers to an elegant yet sturdy dayboat capable of cruising Maine’s often-rocky coast in style. Over the past 30 years, the yard has launched more than 1,000 examples and continues to refine every square inch of the iconic design.

“At Hinckley, we have a meticulous approach to design, obsessing over the details, combining the best DNA of past models with the needs and desires of Hinckley customers today,” added Bryant. “The overall design language of the Picnic Boat 39 demonstrates our continued commitment to building beautiful, timeless, and highly innovative yachts .”

The new Picnic Boat 39 features three separate but adjoined entertaining areas: the aft deck, the cockpit, and the new foredeck. The open aft showcases two plush sofas, while the covered cockpit features more comfy seating, a galley, and the helm. A smart sliding window mechanism provides access to the spacious foredeck, ensuring a smooth transition between free of any cumbersome folding doors or sharp edges. The forward area is outfitted with a large, U-shaped sofa. Below deck, seafarers will find a head and a cabin for overnight stays.

Hinckley didn’t provide any performance figures for the Picnic Boat 39, but the two other models in the lineup dart around at nearly 40 knots. The Picnic Boat 40 has a cruising speed of 35 knots and a top speed of 38 knots, while the Picnic Boat 37 has a cruising speed of 35 knots and a top speed of 37 knots. You can expect the 39 to be equally as fast.

The Picnic Boat 39 is now available for pre-order , with the price available upon request.

Monaco Yacht Show 2024: The largest yachts for charter attending so far

Scheduled to open its doors from 25 - 28 September, the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show is set to return to the beautiful Port Hercules in what promises to be yet another edition filled with some of the most spectacular superyacht charters on the market.

Annually welcoming a plethora of luxury yacht rentals, with many measuring 164ft (50m) upwards, the Monaco Yacht Show proudly showcases the finest and most opulent superyachts around. Previously playing host to incredible boat charters like 295.79ft (90.1m) superyacht NERO and the 298.79ft (91m) Lurssen charter yacht LADY LARA , the 2024 edition will be displaying an enticing selection of the largest yachts for charter .  

Here are some of the superyachts that have announced their attendance to the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show so far.

One of the most expensive yachts for charter and making her debut at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, 400.3ft (122m) superyacht charter KISMET joined the fleet of Lurssen charter yachts in March 2024 and has rapidly become one of the most captivating yachts on the market.

Recently awarded the Best Charter Award at the Robb Report Awards in Monaco, KISMET features a host of unique features, including a striking jaguar emblem on her bowsprit. With an elevator connecting her decks, plus many premium amenities like a personal submarine, a helipad, spa-quality health and wellness area, and expansive exterior decks, ideal for Mediterranean yacht charters , KISMET makes a bold statement and certainly knows how to deliver. 

Recently completing a refit in 2024, 295.3ft (90m) superyacht charter DAR is currently set to berth at Quai Rainier III in Port Hercules and features a cutting-edge selection of water toys for unforgettable watersports yacht charters .

An Oceanco yacht charter that has extensively chartered the East and West Mediterranean, DAR is a multi-award winning boat charter with well-appointed amenities including a movie theatre, a luxurious beauty room, a spacious beach club, a swimming pool, a deck Jacuzzi, and indulgent interiors for relaxing France or Italy yacht charters .

A 257.4ft (78.44m) Abeking & Rasmussen yacht charter , AMARYLLIS completed a refit in 2022 and is making her show debut at this year's event. Making her world premiere at the MYBA Charter Show in 2012, luxury yacht charter AMARYLLIS  has a great selection of onboard amenities including a sundeck pool with underwater lights, a cinema, a spacious beach club, and opulent interiors boasting a grand piano.

PLANET NINE

An expedition yacht charter  with design work by Tim Heywood, 240.2ft (73.2m) yacht rental PLANET NINE launched in 2018 and features everything needed to accommodate the most adventurous yacht charter guests.

A former US airman-turned-social media influencer and his brother have been trapped in Dubai for nearly two months and are possibly facing “several years” in prison after allegedly being “drugged” and waking up inside a police car.

Joseph Lopez and his brother, Joshua Lopez, set out on their trip from Ohio to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 25, hoping to generate luxurious content in the City of Gold, according to Fox 19 Now .

“I came out here because I wanted to shoot content and Dubai seems like this very glamorous place,” Joseph Lopez said.

However, over a week into their Middle Eastern getaway, their workcation became a “real-life nightmare.”

The two brothers were enjoying a night out in Dubai when they were leaving the nightclub Bla Bla on June 2 and were approached by an Uber driver who offered to take them to an “afterparty” at a nearby hotel, according to Detained in Dubai , an organization dedicated to helping people facing legal issues in the UAE.

The pair agreed and were immediately taken to the hotel and brought to the VIP section of the party, where platters of food and drinks were given to them without their request.

About 20 minutes after arriving, the party ended, and the brothers were slapped with a massive bill.

Joseph Lopez, believing they were being duped — but not wanting to ruffle any feathers in the foreign country — reluctantly agreed to pay the bill, Detained in Dubai reported.

The brothers were gearing up to call it a night when they were reportedly approached by a man who invited them to a yacht party.

The Air Force veteran — who only left the military nine months ago — explained that he was “done spending for the night” and initially declined the offer, but the man insisted they were “American guests” and not to worry about spending money.

But once on the boat, the brothers were given drinks by staff and later charged $2,722 for the refreshments before things went from bad to worse, according to Detained in Dubai.

“This girl brought me a drink, and after she brought me this drink, I don’t remember anything,” Joseph Lopez claimed to Fox 19 Now.

The social media influencer said the rest of the night for him and his brother was a blur, claiming the woman “drugged” them.

It wasn’t until later in the early morning of June 3 that the two brothers were allegedly confronted by men in black ski masks speaking to them strictly in Arabic and who tried to throw them into an unmarked vehicle, Detained in Dubai reported.

Fearing they were in danger of being abducted on foreign soil, the two brothers allegedly tried to evade capture.

“The next thing I remember, I’m in the back of a car and my brother says, ‘Do you want me to get you out of here?’” the former airman claimed to Fox 19 Now.

“My arms were all scraped up and stuff and I’m like, ‘Where am I?’ I’m in the back of a car that’s locked.”

The brothers soon discovered they were in the back of a police car, and the men they feared were trying to kidnap them were actually plainclothes police officers.

They were taken to the Al Barsha police station — about 12 miles from the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa — and held there from the morning of their arrest until June 12, Detained in Dubai reported.

The Ohio natives were both charged with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, damaging a patrol vehicle, and alcohol consumption — a law that is strictly enforced in the Middle Eastern nation.

But Joseph Lopez claims he and his brother were neither given a breathalyzer test within 24 hours after their arrest nor tested for drugs for four days even though they were in custody.

The brothers were eventually given and made bail but were slapped with a travel ban, which prevented them from returning to the US.

“Unfortunately, they’re both now facing potential charges and prosecution that could leave them both in prison for several years,” Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling told Fox 19 Now .

However, even if the charges are dropped, Stirling fears the men could spend a lengthy time in the desert country.

“The legal process in Dubai can be drawn out for months and often the punishment is the process,” Stirling shared .

“We hope authorities in the UAE drop the investigation against Joseph and Joshua and move to investigate those potentially involved in crimes against tourists.”

Stirling claims that “Uber drivers” target foreign tourists to bring them to events where they are scammed under the illusion that they won’t need to pay and that “plainclothed police officers often forcefully approach tourists, grab them and intimidate them without identifying themselves.”

The brothers are shacked up in an Airbnb while waiting to find out what will happen next.

“I just want to go home,” the influencer, who has a following of over 300K across Instagram and TikTok , told the outlet.

“Like I want to go home, and I want to go home soon.”

A US State Department spokesperson told Fox 19 Now that the department has “no higher priority” than assuring the “safety and security of US citizens” trapped abroad.

“We are aware of the arrest of a US citizen in the United Arab Emirates. We take our role in assisting US citizens abroad seriously and are monitoring the situation.”

The 96 metre Limitless was a pioneering yacht for Lurssen with her diesel-electric propulsion system, a novelty in 1997. She was conceptualised by the office of the late Jon Bannenberg, who had also been responsible for the design of superyacht Carinthia VI – which in turn inspired the design of Limitless. During the planning of Limitless, the owners of Carinthia VI also ordered a new yacht, which became Carinthia VII designed by Tim Heywood, who himself had worked at the Bannenberg office for many years. Limitless features an interior designed by Francois Catroux, who was also responsible for the beautiful interior of another Lürssen giant, EOS. Limitless, at the time of her construction in 1997, was the largest privately owned yacht in America.
