Porsche 911 GT3 Shark Blue Paint Was Inspired By A Yacht

The color would look great on a boat and definitely looks good on the porsche..

The Porsche 911 GT3 debuted in an eye-catching paint color called Shark Blue . Andreas Preuninger, the person in charge of the brand's GT cars, came up with the inspiration for the color while on vacation.

"I was lying on the beach in Sardinia and this big, beautiful superyacht passed by – 300ft, very elegant – and it had this gleaming blue hull," Preuninger told Autocar . "I was on my feet with my camera, because I thought 'that’s exactly the color we need,' and the rest is history."

Porsche used the Shark Blue color prominently in its marketing images for the new 911 GT3. The shade highlights the body's curves. Black trim on spots like the front fascia, rear diffuser, and wing add some contrast to keep the car from looking too monochromatic.

American-market pricing isn't available for the GT3 yet, so it's not clear whether Shark Blue carries a premium or if it's one of the no-cost color options. Porsche's press shots show a matching color for the seat belts and stitching in the cabin, and judging by the automakers other models, these items are sure to add to the bottom line if a buyer wants them.

The new GT3 has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and makes 502 horsepower (374 kilowatts) and 346 pound-feet (469 Newton-meters) of torque. Buyers can select either a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK. The company's specs say that it can reach 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 197 mph (317 kph).

The model also adopts a double-wishbone suspension at the front, whereas other current 911 variants have a MacPherson strut layout. The wheel track is 1.9 inches wider than a 911 Carrera.

The new GT3 goes on sale in the US this fall.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 is available in a multitude of other shades of blue

When Porsche unveiled the 992-generation 911 GT3 , it did so with a striking display car finished in a new shade dubbed Shark Blue.

The German automaker has heaps of eye-catching shades of blue in its palette, including icons like Riviera Blue, Miami Blue, Gulf Blue, and Mexico Blue. With Shark Blue, Porsche continues its affinity with the hue and Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger has now revealed what inspired this new color.

Speaking with Autocar , Preuninger said the color is actually inspired by a superyacht he saw.

“I was lying on the beach in Sardinia and this big, beautiful superyacht passed by – 300ft, very elegant – and it had this gleaming blue hull,” he said. “I was on my feet with my camera, because I thought ‘that’s exactly the colour we need’, and the rest is history.”

Those not so fond of Shark Blue will be pleased to know that the new 911 GT3 is available with a plethora of different standard colors, including the likes of Guards Red, Racing Yellow, Black, White, Gentian Blue Metallic, Lava Orange, and Python Green. Should customers have the extra cash, they can also order custom colors through the Paint-to-Sample program.

As a refresher, the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 features a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and delivers 502 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque. This engine can be coupled to either a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK or a six-speed manual driving the rear wheels.

Weissach package.

In a battle for performance, every gram counts. The optional Weissach package reduces the weight by approximately 33 lbs. The front lid, roof and exterior mirror top half in visible high gloss carbon fiber, and the rear wing in partial high gloss carbon fiber sharpen the motorsport character of the new 911 GT3 RS.

The fine tuning continues with the lightweight PDK gearshift paddles made of magnesium, a dashboard upper section covered with Black Race-Tex, interior elements in a satin carbon fiber-weave finish, a badge with the "Weissach RS" logo on the passenger side and headrests with the "Weissach RS" embroidered logo.

The anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles, coupling rods on the rear axle and the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) shear panel also provide the ideal weight on the way to new personal bests.

As soon as the lights give the starting signal, the new 911 GT3 RS delivers unbelievable performance of up to 342 lb-ft on the racetrack. With up to 518 hp, taking you from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, it can reach a top track speed of 184 mph. The lightweight stainless steel sport exhaust system ensures an unfiltered sound experience up to a maximum of 9,000 rpm.

Modern motorsport technology sets the tone in the 4.0-liter high revving naturally aspirated engine: 4-valve technology including rocker arms and rigid valve drive, as well as forged pistons and titanium connecting rods. The oil supply is optimized and ready for high lateral forces, thanks to dry sump lubrication with a separate engine oil tank.

Chassis contol systems.

Porsche active suspension management..

The electronic adjustment of the damping control system actively and continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on current road conditions and driving style. PASM has two settings: sporty-comfortable and sporty-firm.

Porsche Stability Management.

PSM is an automatic control system for maintaining stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance. The system interventions can be switched off completely in two stages, for intentional sporty handling on the race track.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

In conjunction with 7-speed PDK, PTV Plus operates with an electronically regulated and fully variable rear differential lock with fully variable torque distribution, resulting in increased traction and improved lateral dynamics and enhanced stability when cornering under load change conditions and when changing lanes.

Other performance highlights.

Chassis bearings with ball joints.

For maximum performance. Precise, sharp and direct handling. And a particularly firm connection between the chassis and body. All chassis bearings are equipped with ball joints, further increasing dynamics and precision.

Front Axle Lift System.

The optional front-axle hydraulic lift system raises the front of the 911 GT3 RS by 1.6 in. This minimizes the risk of scraping on curbs, ramps and parking garage entrances when maneuvering.

Rear-axle steering with sport setup.

At low speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front – increasing agility, especially in corners. At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. This increases stability, especially at high speeds or when overtaking on the race track.

The 911 GT3 RS already has a particularly powerful brake system as standard – which has been optimized again for use on the race track: with 6-piston aluminum brake calipers painted in Red at the front and 4-piston aluminum brake calipers at the rear in monobloc construction for high dimensional stability and very good response and release of the brakes. The lowered and internally vented compound brake discs reduce the unsprung and rotating masses and thus the weight, thanks to their two-part design with aluminum brake chambers.

The optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) discs are around 50% lighter than cast iron discs of a comparable design. Committed to lightweight construction and motorsport, the cross-drilled ceramic brake discs are 410 mm at the front and 390 mm at the rear in diameter – for enhanced braking performance. And improves safety under high-speed braking, thanks to its excellent fade resistance.

2024 Ford Mustang GT3: Release Date, Price, Specs

T he 2024 Ford Mustang has got us all incredibly excited. Its revised styling plus the addition of the Dark Horse version should see Ford become the current muscle car king, as its rivals from Chevrolet and Dodge disappear . Another version that has got us hyped is the 2024 Ford Mustang GT3. A track-ready version of the muscle car that has already broken cover during testing as it gears up for its race debut in 2024.

The car is set to have its full, public unveiling at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours , on the same weekend Ferrari reveals its SF90 Le Mans. This is everything we know so far about the stunning new car, and what to expect from it when it hits the track in anger.

The 2024 Mustang GT3 Has A Race Version Of The Coyote V8

There are no official power figures for the car yet, but we do know what engine is under the hood. The 2024 Mustang GT3 will have a race-ready version of the V8 Coyote engine developed in the UK by M-Sport. The same 5.0-liter engine that we can find in the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse . But the V8 engine will be bored out to 5.4 liters. The Dark Horse chucks out 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. However, if the Mustang wants to compete in the global GT3 class racing series, it would need to meet category regulations. The Mustang GT3 would have to be limited to a maximum of 600 hp, and weight anywhere between 2645 lbs and 2866 lbs in order to be able to go racing.

M-Sport itself has a long history with Ford and operates the Puma Rally1 car in the World Rally Championship . M-Sport will conduct the assembly of the car, with it developed in the USA by Ford Performance. And the extra aero the car features should go hand-in-hand with that V8 power. The most notable feature so far is the huge rear wing, coupled with a newly designed rear diffuser for as much rear-end grip as possible. Larger bodywork bulks up the appearance of the 2024 Mustang GT3 compared to its road-going counterparts. There is currently no price tag for the Mustang GT3 for potential racing customers, but expect it to be higher than $59,270 that the Dark Horse currently starts at.

The front sees other notable changes such as the addition of a huge splitter, plus canards on either side of the front quarter panels. The extra aggression that the new GT3 oozes would be enough to intimidate its rivals out of the way when the car is racing in anger. The full, public launch of the car is set for June 9th, and development driver and Le Mans winner Joey Hand has already thrown the car around Sebring. Hand won the Le Mans 24 Hours driving for Ford in the GT.

What Series The 2024 Mustang GT3 Will Race In

The Mustang is likely to race in both the IMSA Sports Car Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship . The WEC is set to adopt GT3-homologated cars for its GT racing in 2024, with 2023 as the final season for GTE regulations. IMSA has already moved away from GTE regulations and has run with GT3-based cars in 2022 and 2023 already. If Ford joins both series, it will line up alongside fellow American sports car maker Chevrolet. Who have already debuted their 2024 Z06 GT3.R set to make its debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in 2024.

The Mustang GT3 will of course be eligible to race in other GT3-based championships. The German touring car series DTM adopted GT3 regulations a couple of years ago. And has seen a rise in entries due to that, so to see Ford or privateer teams with the Mustang competing in the 2024 DTM wouldn’t be a surprise. Wherever the Mustang races in 2024, it will rekindle the rivalry it had with Ferrari from the 1960s. Ferrari is competing in the hypercar category in the WEC as well as the GT categories in both IMSA and the WEC.

Ford is currently having quite a boom when it comes to its racing activities. It is of course a big player in the NASCAR field, while it also has a strong presence in the Australian Supercar championship. But the Blue Oval is also making its return to Formula 1 in 2026 , in a partnership with Red Bull to create Red Bull-Ford Powertrains. It will mark the brand's first foray into Formula 1 since its ill-fated Jaguar Works entry. Ironically the team eventually sold to Red Bull with whom it is now partnering.

Ford Is Considering A Road Legal 2024 Mustang GT3

While the prospect of the GT3 Mustang is already exciting, Ford has set pulses racing further with the prospect of a road-going version of the car . In March this year, Ford CEO Jim Farley tweeted footage of the Mustang GT3 out during testing at Sebring. But he then got everyone to lose their minds by retweeting his own tweet and asking “should we make a road version?” As you would expect, Farley was flooded with replies to his tweet saying yes, Ford should make a road-going version of the Mustang GT3.

Ford hasn’t officially commented on that prospect, but for Farley to tweet that out means some discussion must have already taken place. It would certainly spice the range up even further and be even more positive publicity for the Blue Oval. The 2024 Mustang range already includes plenty of variety. Ranging from the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the EcoBoost version, all the way up to the 500-hp Dark Horse. A road-going GT3 version would allow the Mustang to compete with similar offerings from Porsche and Chevrolet, such as the C8 Z06 , turning the muscle car into a fully-fledged sports car.

Who Is Set To Race The 2024 Mustang GT3

At the moment, Ford hasn’t announced any official driver lineups for forthcoming campaigns with the GT3. Joey Hand has conducted a lot of the testing in the car and of course has racing experience in the Ford GT. Harry Tincknell is set to have an involvement with the program. The Briton has raced for Ford in the WEC as well as in the IMSA championship driving the Mazda DPi prototype . That does though lead to plenty of open spots for other drivers within the Ford program.

Any other thoughts on drivers are pure speculation. But maybe one day we could see Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez race the Mustang at Le Mans thanks to Red Bull’s Ford tie-up. The 2024 Mustang GT3 is looking to be an exciting racer, with all the prowess you’d want from a muscle car but enhanced ten times over to create a racing thoroughbred. Hopefully, its launch on June 9th will include a few laps around the famous Circuit de la Sarthe ahead of the Le Mans event. Videos online show a car with an amazing soundtrack that looks incredible out on the track.
