The original site of Royal Phuket Yacht Club

This relatively new hotel was redeveloped 2 years or so ago. It was originally the Royal Phuket Yacht Club (which meant that the Thai Royalty had resided there on the vacations). The original hotel had more spacious rooms and had the "old world charm". The Nai Harn however had reduced their hotel pool to a children's pool and the rooms have also been redone with a smaller area. The restaurants are still good standard.

From the airport meet and greet to the hotel and back again we cannot praise the staff highly enough: Waen, our Butler, supplied us with a mobile phone so she could organise everything we wanted, Pat,by the pool, recommended the best mock tails, the lovely staff at the Cosmo restaurant remembered our preferences, View and the ladies in the spa were excellent and the incomparable Chef Ann taught us how to cook Thai food and shared the culinary passion you can taste in her menus - a huge highlight - while Roong took photographs and invited us to take part in the Monk Merit Making ceremony - another highlight! Our room (a Grand Ocean view), like the rest of the hotel, was immaculately presented and very comfortable - probably the best bed I have ever slept on! We appreciated the fruit and flowers, the luxurious complementary toiletries, the different sweet bite arriving each evening with turn down and the mini bar choices being updated to suit our tastes. After 5 nights, a different route back to the airport confirmed what we already knew - The Nai Harn is the best hotel in Phuket, and not just because of its superb location on one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand!

We spent 8 nights at The hotel. We had 2 nice big rooms with superb view. An excellent range of international and Thai breakfast, special area for Halal food which we really appreciated. Lots of thoughtful touches to feel more comfortable (free water all day, beach towels, beach bag, flip flops & free bicycle). Beautiful hotel with great views, long hallways, very clean and well-maintained facilities, pleasant & professional staff. Beautiful beach with white sand & clear water compared to other areas. Not very crowded. Sadly it is not clean as expected. some days the beach was clean and some other days ee had to do some cleaning by ourselves. You may have some issues with invisible jellyfishes ! However : The Nai Harn area is really isolated ! there is nothing to do! book a taxi most of the time to go shopping / mall! Only one elevator for all floors till 6th (no elevator for 7th & 8th). Expensive hotel restaurant ! while there are nice restaurants with reasonable prices & halal food around the hotel. The pool is simple, extremely small ( depth Max 1.5 ) mainly for kids. Very packed as some days we can’t use the beach due to the weather conditions and we end up forced to use the pool . I only recommend this hotel for families with kids, no more than 3 nights because you will feel bored but definitely one of the best beaches in Phuket! I was expecting a certain standard in Phuket but after 18 days in Phuket I can tell you there is nothing special about Phuket!

We booked this as part of a quick honeymoon getaway. Booking was easy, and we arrived late on a very rainy night. The room was very large, with a great view which we fully appreciated the next morning when the skies cleared. This bed must have been one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in- and that includes the Four seasons and the Westin heavenly bed.... the bed was incredible as were the pillows. The room design was very nice with a bathroom wall that you could open to enjoy the bathtub with a view. The staff were incredible, the breakfast buffet very good (although more rotation of options would always be nice) the quality was excellent. The beach is very nice, while the resort doesn’t have beach beds directly on the beach- the beach butler at the rock salt will provide beach towels. Friday morning has alms giving for the village monks Arranged by the hotel, which guests are invited to join. There are very affordable restaurants right in front (Thai) and around the corner (Italian). Very easy to book Grab transport to get around.

The location on the beautiful flat beach is fantastic. We lived in a room with a fabulous view over the sea and the bay. We spent many hours on the terrace in the sun bed. The breakfast buffet was great. In the evening we often ate very good freshly caught fish in the hotel restaurant. In the surroundings there are few small beach restaurants and few shops.

I think this hotel is the best in Thailand, I stayed there one night, the room was enormous with Ocean view right at the beach, the service was excellent and the staff were very nice and friendly. This hotel literally perfect, no more words, it’s just little pricey.

It is definitely the perfect setting for a romantic dinner under the stars overlooking the magnificent Views of Nai Harn bay.

Royal In room Dining will deliver breakfast in bed, offer chef-prepared gourmet meals in the intimacy of your terrace with breathtaking views on Nai Harn Bay, our selection can be viewed in the Guest Directory and is available 24H.

My husband and I decided to stay in The Royal Phuket Yacht Club during our trip to Phuket, Thailand to celebrate our 15th anniversary last March because of the good testimonials we have read in the internet that it’s a perfect place to celebrate honeymoons. At first sight, we already knew that the hotel fitted all our requirements such as a quiet place, not so crowded beach and a totally relaxing haven. The hotel was designed into a traditional Thai style which is very pleasing to the eye. Our room was scrupulously cleaned and arranged with flower petals on our bed; veranda’s just perfect with blooming bougainvilleas in a variety of colors planted around the veranda. Food was delicious, no complaints about that. The Regatta was a nice restaurant with a very romantic view and helpful waiters. Outside, the lobby was well-maintained, very clean with nice flowers and gave a pleasant view of the beach and the Promthep Cape. The pool area was also tidy. I very much appreciated this hotel, this is genuinely a good place to spend honeymoons; it’s totally romantic, peaceful, and beautiful.

Both Junior and Adult sailing programmes and lessons from beginner to advanced are a regular features at Phuket Yacht club (PYC) as well as senior racing on a monthly basis.

PYC Facilities

Here at PYC we host and organise many regattas throughout the year which you may enter and join in with the excitement as well as the after party fun in the evenings.

The Phuket Yacht Club Social calendar is wide and varied and you will experience a great community atmosphere to which you will be welcomed with open arms. We hold a Quiz every couple of months to fundraise for Disabled Sailing Thailand https://disabledsailingthailand.org/ and give our members and guests a chance to pit their wits against each other. We hold regular wine tastings with guest presenters showcasing their wares, a welcome glass of Prosecco is followed by some very fine reds, whites and rosés to titillate your palate. Also yearly events such as the Melbourne Cup are high points not to be missed. The Club is also open to host private functions and celebrations from birthdays to weddings.

4 December 2022, Phuket   –  The 34 th  Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is ready to set sail and welcome sailors from all over the globe, including Thailand, to undertake the challenge of competing in one of the most scenic locations in the world in the azure waters of the Andaman Sea off Phuket, Thailand. The regatta will not only bring yacht racing back to Thailand but also enhance Phuket as a destination for family holiday and adventure sports.

Kevin Whitcraft, President of the 34th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta organizing committee , said, “We are excitedto organize the regatta again after a two-year forced hiatus. The 34 th  Edition is ready to welcome all international and Thai yacht racing sailors for Keelboat and Multihulls and Dinghy races. It is indeed special to compete in this warm weather water, surrounded by the beautiful Andaman Sea and the scenic beauty of Phuket.

“We want to make the King’s Cup a bucket list sailing event for all boat owners globally. It is a family-friendly event where adults can race yachts while their kids race dinghies. The King’s Cup Regatta has established itself as one of the most spectacular and best-organised events in the region. The diversity of the craft, the international complement of crews and the highlight – the best-after-sailing beach parties – have made the King’s Cup Regatta well-known globally. We’re very proud of its contribution to Phuket and Thailand and to the sport of sailing.”

Mr. Arnupab Rodkwan Yodrabam, Deputy Governor of Phuket, said  “Renowned as the Pearl of Andaman, Phuket is ready to welcome all visitors to enjoy our beautiful natural resources, variety of pristine white sand beaches, the island’s heritage, a variety of culinary delights, and warm hospitality. During COVID-19, Phuket has implemented the GEMMMSSTTF strategy to recover its economy, consisting of: 1. GASTRONOMY; 2. EDUCATION HUB; 3. MARINA HUB; 4. MEDICAL HUB; 5. MICE CITY; 6. SPORTS TOURISM; 7. SMART CITY; 8. TUNA HUB; 9. TOURISM; and 10. FUSION FARM. The whole week of this Asia-premiere regatta will enhance Phuket’s sport tourism, including sailing. Under Royal Patronage, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is organized by the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket. The region’s most prestigious regatta includes International Dinghies Classes, Keelboats, and Multihulls Classes. The Royal Awards Ceremony will be on 10th December 2022 at Beyond Resort Kata, Kata Beach, Phuket.

Widely regarded as one of Asia’s premier yachting regattas, it consists of five days of racing on scenic courses amidst the beautiful Andaman Sea islands. Following two years of no regatta due to the Covid pandemic, Phuket King’s Cup Regatta glad to be back with a strong showing of 182 Dinghies from  Thailand, United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Japan, Malaysia and China to participate the International Dinghy Classes. A key event on the Phuket tourism calendar, the regatta helps promote Phuket as a premier sports paradise on the world stage. In addition, the regatta has boosted sailing as a sport in Thailand, allowing young Thai sailors to develop their sailing skills in dinghies and go on to join international keelboat crews competing for class honours.

Besides attracting some of the world’s fastest independent racing teams, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is famous for its après-sailing beach party series that showcase Phuket’s culinary specialities and gourmet food. Adding to the festivity is live music. The event draws corporate and international brands keen to grow their presence on a cosmopolitan platform. It also offers premier networking opportunities at the party venues each night following the conclusion of the day’s racing. 

Keelboats and Multihulls will compete between 5-10 December, with 8 th  December reserved as a lay day for competitors to adjust their strategies or fix their boats. The race will continue from 9-10 December.

The International Dinghy Classes will race from 3-6 December at Kata Beach. Classes are divided into Optimist Boys, Optimist Girls, Open ILCA4,  ILCA6, ILCA 7, 420, 470, and Open Skiff.

The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta has played an important part in the development of sailing in Thailand. It has encouraged young sailors to take up the sport and helped develop talented and aspiring skippers, who now represent Thailand at several international events.

1 Koh Samui

Koh Samui is one of Thailand’s top tourist destinations, popular for its white sand beaches and luxury five-star resorts. Naturally, yachting fits right into that equation, with plenty of luxury boats up for charter. Don’t miss sailing through the archipelago of Ang Thong National Marine Park, and its distinctive shores from Sleeping Cow Island to Three Pillars Island.

Phuket’s is a big star on the global yachting map, thanks to the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. It’s Asia’s biggest and most popular regatta, a jam-packed week of yacht racing on the Andaman Sea coupled with mega-parties on the island. Plus, the Regatta attracts several world-renowned names from the yachting world. Phuket also plays host to a prestigious consumer’s  Phuket International Boat Show , where big deals for most high-end yachts are brokered right on the marina.

It’s easy to fall in love with yachting in Pattaya, the home of the Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show. The event offers up a first glimpse into the luxurious yachting lifestyle with free cruises and demonstrations of all the latest and greatest industry technology. It often spurs people to go out and rent a motor yacht of their own. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Thailand’s premiere sailing club and the prestigious organizer of the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, is also located nearby, between Pattaya and Jomtien.

In Krabi, yachting is quickly becoming one of the latest attention-grabbing attractions for tourists who want to see southern Thailand from a whole new perspective. At Krabi Boat Lagoon, the island’s premier marina complex, it’s easy to rent a boat or hop on-board one as a passenger. Krabi leads into another gorgeous yachting destination, Phang Nga Bay, where it’s also easy to charter a fabulous, luxury ride to other must-see islands like Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Kai.

5 Koh Phi Phi

With lots of small islands to discover, each one as breathtakingly unique as the next, Koh Phi Phi is the perfect location for a yacht cruise. The two biggest islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh have spectacular cliffs and dives for those who are interested in a snorkel and a swim, but there are lots of other uninhabited islands to explore in between.

6 Surin and Similan

The Similan and Surin Islands are among the world’s top dive destinations, and that’s what makes it prime territory for sailing too. This group of nine islands northwest of Phuket boasts beautiful coral reef and a superfluous amount of fish species below the water. An absolute must for those who think that dropping anchor and diving into this underwater world is the ultimate adventure.

7 Koh Chang

Koh Chang offers up perfect yachting experience for those who want to go off the beaten track and get away from the tourist crowd. Unlike in Koh Samui or Phuket, you’re likely to cruise for quite some time without seeing any other bareboats. There are also plenty of coves and remote beaches in the Koh Chang archipelago to discover.

Hua Hin is a well-known laidback beach town. Plenty of families come here seeking good seafood and a memorable sailing adventure. It’s not as much of a yachting destination as nearby Pattaya, but does offer a wide range of boats to sail the Gulf of Thailand, whether your style is bareboat or crewed.

9 Phang Nga Bay

Nestled between Phuket and the western coast of mainland Thailand, this bay contains perhaps the most beautiful and famous group of islands in the Land of Smiles. Phang Nga Bay is a wonderful sailing destination and a World Heritage Site, with many unique characteristics to discover from a 200-metre long cave tunnel from Koh Phanak to Khao Phing Kan, to the island where the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun” was filmed years ago. Unfortunately, these days James Bond Island, as it’s now called, is over-crowded with tourists, but that’s what makes charting a boat the perfect way to explore the bay – you feel as though you’re escaping the crowd, and embarking on unchartered waters.

10 Koh Lipe

The Butang Archipelago, the group of 51 islands that Koh Lipe belongs to, is simply divine. Taking off from Koh Lipe, you will very quickly get the full experience of being away from civilization, sailing past uninhabited islands covered in lush tropical rainforest and foliage. It’s also a great spot for fishing, and all kinds of kingfish, red snapper and tuna are fair game in these crystal blue waters.

The Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC)  is a family-oriented club for sailors of all abilities, from absolute beginners to cruisers to Olympic contenders and world champions.

Located in a secluded cove between Pattaya and Jomtien less than two hours from Bangkok, Varuna offers year-round sailing with boat storage and repair services, rentals, and friendly boat staff to help with launching and landing.

Regular weekend activities like cruises, race, courses and training ensure that every Varuna member always has a safe and fun experience on the ocean.

RVYC is also an accredited Royal Yachting Association Training Centre (RYA), and our popular and globally recognized sailing tuition for adults and for adults and for kids is second to none.

Ashore, our facilities - a private beach, a stunning clubhouse, broad lawns, an in-house restaurant and bar, a shaded swimming pool, and comfortable accommodation - make Varuna the perfect getaway for the whole family.
