History of Solaris

Established in 1974, Solaris Yachts, a world-renowned boat manufacturer, began operations in Aquileia, an historical town of the Roman Empire, in the North East of Italy. Sergio Lombardi, the founder, envisioned the company to be a vanguard in building ocean-going yachts designed to handle serious offshore sailing in supreme comfort and safety. Guided by courage, competence, commitment and an unyielding desire for excellence, Lombardi steered the firm into the limelight of international boat building.

From the onset, Solaris Yachts exhibited an exceptional craftsmanship that stood out in the industry. It honed its expertise in building high-performance custom yachts, maintaining stringent quality control to ensure that each vessel was practical, safe, and aesthetically enchanting. Interestingly, one of the company's unique building methodologies is the infusion moulding system, which gives its yachts long-lasting rigidity and strength.

Where Are Solaris Yachts Made?

Solaris Yachts are made at their shipyard and headquarters in Aquileia, a town in Northern Italy near the Natissa River, which empties in the Marano Lagoon. The Solaris shipyard stretches over 85,000 square feet, of which nearly 20,000 of it is covered. 

The efficiency and highly-advanced systems at the Solaris factory are a marvel of production. The shipyard has been producing boats at an incredibly high level of quality control for over 40 years, allowing the artisans at Solaris to refine their skills over a lifetime. Solaris Yachts

The company Solaris Yachts has a long history of both the production of new yachts and the repair/refit of yachts. The shipyard opened its gates in 1974 – in Aquileia, at the top of the Venetian lagoon, an area well known for its boatbuilding traditions. In their modern production facilities, right next to the water, you have the opportunity to test sail your magic carpet of choice.

For more than 40 years, they have produced very fine performance yachts and now their models range from 40ft to 111ft. The yachts are characterised by innovative design, very high construction quality and of course, their stylish finish. The Solaris Design Team has had great success and in collaboration with Javier Soto Acebal, designed today’s fleet of yachts. Solaris Yachts is considered one of the most prestigious yards in the world and at a recent Boat International World Superyacht Awards – they won a prize for their latest superyacht – the Solaris 111 RS.

The success of Solaris Yachts has mainly come thanks to its brilliant construction philosophy – a combination of technology, strength and traditional manufacturing. Each Solaris yacht has a 40mm composite main bulkhead, the bulkhead is laminated on both sides to the hull and deck. Longitudinal and transverse beams are laminated to the hull. The keels on all models have a wide keel plate for optimal power transmission and power distribution through the 30mm coarse steel bolts that connect the keel to the hull. The yachts are very strong and built with the best components and material choices. The high quality means that a Solaris yacht retains a high resale value and above all, trouble-free sailing pleasure for you as the owner.

When stepping aboard, the first thing you will notice is the design of all Solaris models, but it is only when you get out on the water that you really understand the benefits of a Solaris. The yachts are designed and constructed so that you, perhaps with a small crew, can get the most out of your sailing. A large open cockpit provides an overview of the entire yacht, and winches and sheets are within easy reach. All models are delivered with self-tacking foresail for easy and safe sail handling, and in combination with an integrated bowsprit for gennakers, this will be an unbeatable combination even on the regatta circuit.

The Solaris 40 was a brand new model in 2021 and she packs all the punch, looks and of course, comfort of her bigger sisters. The main idea behind the Solaris 40 was to incorporate the latest advances along with keeping the stylish Solaris lines - which Javier Soto Acebal has created throughout the whole Solaris fleet.

The Solaris 44 saw its debut at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival and has proved to be a very popular yacht. Over 30 have been built and their popularity continues. The hull shape and design of the Solaris 44 was first seen on the Solaris 55 with the now trademark Solaris soft chine and carrying her full beam aft to the transom. Her twin rudders provide great grip on the water and of course, the outboard twin helms allow for fantastic visibility down the decks. Her sailing performance speaks for itself and she is perfectly balanced at sea.

With over 60 Solaris 50s sold since her introduction, it was a tall request for Javier Soto Acebal to improve on this popular size with additional refinements. He has delivered however with the ‘new’ Solaris 50, launched April 2022. Even more sparkling performance that is easily manageable, with increased stability, and a clean uncluttered striking style. The integral transom tender garage and improved layout down below takes this new 50 to an unbelievable next level of design.

A long 14 months in the design office eventually came the spectacular Solaris 55. Every detail was reviewed and fine-tuned to ensure she became a benchmark 16m yacht, in regards to her looks, capabilities and performance. As with her sisters she also carries her maximum beam aft a design feature which is now seen most commonly on a large number of ocean racing yachts. She has a high stability ratio and righting moment ballast to weight ratio of more than 40% created by her T keel with lead bulb and cast iron fin available with a 3m draft or optional shallower 2.7m.

Freshly launched in 2020 to create a yacht that will set the precedent for the future of performance cruising yachts. The aim was to create a Mini-Maxi which means the yacht must be no longer than 18.31m allowing her to take part in Mini-Maxi racing. Including the prestigious Mini-Maxi Cup which takes place in the fabulous Porto Cervo every year. The Solaris 60 is the ultimate yacht for the family yachtsman who also wants to do a spot of enjoyable racing.

Solaris 64 RS

Solaris 64 RS is one of the newer models from the drawing board of Javier Soto Acebal and hull number one launched in 2019. She is an extremely innovative yacht in the bluewater-cruising segment. The RS models have a bright saloon with large windows that provide an unbeatable panoramic view. The elevated saloon creates space for a central engine room where all service systems are gathered, well insulated so that the two aft cabins are not disturbed. The layout of the foreship is really innovative where she can be specified with two different solutions, a large sail locker or furnished for a crew cabin with its own head.

Solaris 68 RS

Solaris 68 RS is the perfect yacht for bluewater cruising. Like her smaller sister ship, she is extremely innovative with unbeatable performance both above and below deck. This yacht is the result of many years of experience from the design and construction of sailing yachts with a focus on long-distance sailing.

Solaris 74 RS

It's time to make history again by launching a new 22-meter yacht, the Solaris 74 RS. Over the years, the shipyard has developed and designed several models in this size of yacht, each yacht has become more innovative and performed better on the water than its predecessor. The owners' needs and ambitions have been satisfied and each Solaris yacht offers safe and easy offshore sailing.

Solaris 80 RS

Created for extended bluewater cruising in comfort while still being under 24m. The Solaris 80 RS design has been incredibly well thought through and there are 2 very different options for the interior layout - with either the owner’s cabin forward or aft which is a rare find. Whichever is your preference, she still boasts 4 cabins plus great crew accommodation which is positioned forward or aft depending on your layout choice.

Solaris 111 SY

Solaris 111 SY - hull no.1 was launched in 2020 but made her public debut at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show and she was incredibly well received. Built at the request of past Solaris owners, she is a beautiful yacht. At this size, the yacht is very much semi-custom so can therefore be adapted to meet your needs. The SOLARIS yacht was newly launched in 2021 by Lloyd Werft.

At 139.7 meters (458 ft), SOLARIS is considered an absolute giant in the world of superyachts and ranks as the 15th largest in the world.

No official photos of the interior of the SOLARIS yacht have been released, so the exact design is unknown.

However, judging from the minimalist and modern layout of the decks, it can be assumed that the interior follows a similar trend.

The German designer Frank Neubelt is said to have worked on the interior of SOLARIS, although details of the project are unknown.

The yacht is one of the largest in the world, so it comes as no surprise that the SOLARIS yacht can accommodate an impressive 36 guests onboard.

Around 60 crew members find space in the cabins below deck and are available to tend to every need of the passengers.

The yacht also features a large gym, spa, and several salons to host events and welcome guests.

MY SOLARIS Specifications

MY SOLARIS was built in 2021 by the German shipyard Lloyd Werft and became the largest vessel they had ever delivered.

The total length of the yacht is 139.7 meters (458 ft) which makes her 23 meters (75 ft) shorter than Abramovic’s other famous yacht, ECLIPSE.

Her beam is 21.35 meters (70 ft), and her draft measures 5.95 meters (19.6 ft). Her total weight lies at 11,247 tons.

The SOLARIS yacht is powered by six MTU engines which allow her to travel at an average cruise speed of 18 knots with top speeds of 20 knots.

The exterior of MY SOLARIS was designed by Marc Newson Ltd , an Australian industrial designer who has worked in several industries, including aircraft, furniture, and clothing.

His work is easily recognizable by smooth lines and rounded shapes with geometric elements.

The SOLARIS yacht is a prime example of this with its sleek look, rounded balconies, and many windows. Her eight decks have an unusually light wood that decorates the many open spaces of the vessel.

There are several extendable platforms to release tenders and toys and a large beach club located close to the swimming platform.

Of course, SOLARIS includes a full-size helipad as well as several swimming pools, one of which is located on the largest of the decks aft of the vessel.

Solaris 55 nasce da una profonda consapevolezza e alta conoscenza: l’esperienza di 50 anni di storia del Cantiere Solaris Yacths confluiscono in Solaris 55 che incarna tutte le qualità di una imbarcazione ideata per circumnavigare il globo via mare, o se si preferisce, per una piacevole uscita giornaliera. Progetto e architettura navale nascono dalla mente del progettista Javier Soto Acebal, Adi Design ha realizzato il design degli interni e il team Solaris ha costruito e curato le strutture, gli impianti e il disegno tecnico interno. Ogni aspetto e dettaglio del progetto, ogni componente scelto tra le marche migliori sul mercato, ha trovato il giusto posto grazie ad uno studio pregiato e attento su una barca di lunghezza scafo 16,90 e baglio di 5,00.

Scafo e deck layout.

Lo studio idrodinamico ha definito uno scafo moderno, con un piccolo chine a prua che sparisce in un ginocchio tondo nell’ampio specchio di poppa. Il trim longitudinale è garantito da questo. Il layout di coperta appare semplice e pulito, frutto di specifica attenzione e conoscenza delle linee. Il pozzetto ampio con le colonnine a tutta larghezza migliorano incredibilmente la vista della navigazione a vela e in fase di ormeggio in porto. I doppi tavoli sono estremamente comodi per il passaggio centrale verso la zona di ingresso barca, caratterizzata da due vetri che permettono di ricevere molta luce all’interno delle cabine e della dinette.

Caratteristica unica di un Solaris di oggi, lo specchio di poppa apribile per riporre il tender con fuoribordo in posizione longitudinale e una scaletta effettivamente molto comoda per accedervi, creata da stampo.

La struttura, come in ogni Solaris, è caratterizzata dal legame delle tre paratie principali in composito con fazzolettatura a scafo e coperta. E ancora, una chiglia in ghisa piombo, ancorata con flangia di accoppiamento alla struttura dello scafo. Fusione perfetta tra avanguardia e soluzioni tradizionali: Solaris 55 nasce da grande impegno e cura per garantire sempre ai suoi armatori la sicurezza in ogni mare, il confort della navigazione e il vento dell’avventura.

Salendo a bordo, la perfetta simmetria è il risultato di un grande lavoro di analisi e di distribuzione degli spazi: classico è il layout degli interni con ampia cabina d’armatore a prua, disponibile in due versioni con letto centrale o di murata, insieme ad un bagno con ampia doccia. La dinette esprime luce e simmetria, e ha la possibilità di avere un divano o due ampie poltrone. La cucina, attrezzabile a seconda delle esigenze dell’armatore, è ad L a sinistra, e dotabile di ogni confort. Le due cabine a poppa hanno ciascuna il proprio bagno con doccia separata. La cala vele può essere attrezzata con una cabina marinaio e bagno incorporato.

Il nuovo Solaris 55 è un ulteriore passo in avanti, sia nel family feeling sia nell’evoluzione di uno stile che racchiude in sé uno yacht costruito secondo i criteri dei maxi oceanici e che può essere comodamente usato per l’uscita di una indimenticabile giornata di vela.

Solaris Is the World’s Most Expensive Custom Yacht

The Solaris will be the latest addition to the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich’s fleet of yachts.

New photos of  Roman Abramovich ’s US$610 million megayacht have been released and the images are just stunning. Solaris is the billionaire’s brand new toy expected to be delivered to him by this year.

Compared to the Chelsea FC owner’s Eclipse built in 2010, the Solaris is smaller and less expensive but still packs a punch. The  megayacht  is reportedly the world’s most technologically advanced and most expensive custom yacht. That is not a surprise, considering how the vessel is tailor-made for one of the richest men in the world.

Solaris is 460 feet (140 metres) long, with 48 cabins across eight decks and can accommodate a crew of 60 and space for 36 guests. This uber-luxurious megayacht is also one of the world’s safest vessels and this is important for Abramovich and his circle of friends. To that end, Solaris comes with state-of-the-art security, including a radar-controlled missile detection system, bulletproof windows and armoured protection.

Abramovich and his guests can enjoy the various amenities available onboard with security measures in place. There is a gym, sauna, jacuzzi and possibly a beauty salon on the gigantic yacht. The Eclipse is known to have a nightclub but for Solaris, it will have an outdoor “beach club” at the aft section of the upper deck. Not to mention, the megayacht will also have its own flotilla of jet-skis and a helipad.

This giant spectacle was a product of German shipyard Lloyd Werft and has been undergoing sea trials from  Barcelona  to Cape D’Ail. It has since berthed in Antibe, on the French Riviera. Currently, it is reported that Abramovic is on vacation off  Croatia  on his Eclipse and the billionaire will most likely board the Solaris when he is back.
