We were greeted with a smile and seated at the bar for a drink before the rest of our group arrived. The bar staff were engaging, friendly and happy to allow me to taste wine before selecting it. The occasion was our work Christmas dinner... and once seated at our table we were really well looked after by our waitress. She guided us expertly in our choices to ensure we made the most of our experience. Despite the restaurant being very full our drinks were replenished quickly and our food arrived, with explanations that added to the dishes. The food was divine - the calamari melted like hit butter and the lamb was perfect. Portion sizes are generous and were appreciated by the builders in our group. Many thanks to the staff who delivered a seamless and high quality service, all while looking very happy and confident in their roles. We will be back! More

Fabulous night out at this restaurant with twenty work colleagues. Enjoyed a fix menu with platters of different beautiful dishes brought to the table to share. Generous quantities. Particular enjoyed the fish and steak servings and their baked potatoes are a treat. Service was excellent.... Wine list perhaps a little expensive. Will definitely return. More

We’d walked by this place the night before and it was full and looked good so,decided to try. We were not disappointed. We had the meatballs and courgette fritters (my favourite) to start and then half a chicken and Greek salad both excellent and it... was so good to have a lovely Greek salad. I then opted for the baklava which was delicious but it even defeated me. A real gem of a restaurant with lovely friendly staff and owners. Well worth a visit. More

We were a group of 10. We had a great table in the back of the restaurant which was perfect for us. We couldn't fault the food, a range of interesting flavours and the food was cooked to perfection. Its the service that let our... experience down. They rushed us through and said we had to order the desserts as the kitchen was closing. As soon as we got our desserts they informed us they were closing the restaurant at 10pm. They didn't ask us if we wanted another drink and there here was no offer of coffees or teas. We had to finish our night much earlier than planned and it left us a bit disappointed with the evening. More

We went to a birthday dinner here and both the food and service were just wonderful. We had the Aphrodites banquet which is the basic option but these was still way more food than any of us could get through. The meat was very tender... and well seasoned. The staff explained each of the items on the table and took extra good care of our gluten free friend. Would definitely return. More

It was a "low key" anniversary dinner and my sister had given us a voucher for $100 for the Athens Yatch club. A strongly themed restaurant, with pictures of boats over all the walls - the irony that the venue is located in the middle... of the city, a long way from any water or marina was not lost on me. We were shown to a table by the entrance, lucky there wasn't too much foot traffic otherwise it wouldn't have been a great table. More

Really wonderful evening at the Athens Yacht Club. Fabulous food with great service. A taste of Greece in Christchurch. The seared Tuna was such a treat and the dips with Pita bread took us back to Athens.

My sister in law recommend this place and I have to say it was really amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and was amazing in explaining the menu and how it worked. We ended up have an amazing starters of Bread and Dip as well... as the Flaming Cheese which was to die for. For our main we went with the Roasted Potatoes the Lamb Shoulder the Ribeye Steak and a salad. The Lamb just fell of the bone and it was so nice but my favorite had to be the Steak. I would highly recommend going here for dinner. More

Husband and I always like to try different restaurants every month for our date nights. And this resto lived up to its expectations! We had the saganaki with flat bread, calamari, roast chicken, moussaka, roasted potatoes and they are all sooo delicious! Portion was very... generous! At this point we were stuffed!! but I saw that they had loukoumades (Greek donuts) and I knew I just had to order some! Best decision ever, those donuts were soft and crispy and just divine!! Could not fault anything. The service was exceptional too! 10/10 highly recommend. More

Some of the dishes would be among the best Greek Food I’ve had. The service is friendly, helpful and good and they can accommodate most palates. They serve tapas style and the dishes are meant for sharing, as a vegetarian you will find a lot... of options except in the mains there are limited mains for vegetarians but you can make it up with other dishes. Some of their dishes are a New Zealand twist on traditional Greek like the beetroot hummus. They are a short walk from the Mayfair and parking is street parking. More

Enjoyed a nice dinner at The Athens Yacht Club with 3 friends. The food was nice definitely enjoyed it but the waitress told us share 1 large plate between 2 people but the large plate wasn’t that big and each of us could’ve easily had... one big plate each. The service could’ve been better - it was too slow with ordering/delivering drinks/clearing plates and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. I would recommend but I wouldn’t say it’s a must visit. More

We enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends on an extremely hot evening. The restaurant was a nice cool temperature and tables well spaced so it felt very comfortable. The menu is modern greek food and we tried most of the appetiser and maze plates. Everything... was authentic and very well presented. Service was very good which is a rarity in Christchurch. Will certainly go back. More

This was our first visit to The Athens Yacht Club, perhaps lured by the 1:1 free dessert deal! We are glad we dined here. The location is convenient, the decor is nice, the service was good, the food was authentic and delicious. What else can... one ask for! No wonder that all the tables were full.. We were 3 vegetarians, and were well looked after by Judy. We shared breads and dip as a starter; gnocchi as main with a side of grilled asparagus & broccolini; and 2 desserts to finish. A wonderful night. More

A fabulous experience from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with a smile and escorted to our table. The wait staff were attentive and friendly throughout the evening. We ordered a starter, entree, main and salad to share - the perfect amount of... food for two. The food was delicious and fresh, with the dishes coming out in perfect timing. The ambience of the room was vibrant with a buzz in the room. Highly recommend if you're after a good restaurant just on the outer fringe of the CBD. More

Had been wanting to go to this restaurant for awhile after hearing great things about it from friends. The restaurant was lovely, although busy it still felt cozy. Staff were helpful, efficient and attentive. The food was DEVINE! So much to choose and as I'm... vegetarian, I'm not used to having so many choices in a non specific vegetarian restaurant, but this was huge. In order to try as many flavors as possible we chose 2 starters and two entrees (rather than the larger mains) and shared a salad and then had the dessert platter. So much I still want to try so will be back. Highly recommend More

We were greeted with a smile and seated at the bar for a drink before the rest of our group arrived. The bar staff were engaging, friendly and happy to allow me to taste wine before selecting it. The occasion was our work Christmas dinner... and once seated at our table we were really well looked after by our waitress. She guided us expertly in our choices to ensure we made the most of our experience. Despite the restaurant being very full our drinks were replenished quickly and our food arrived, with explanations that added to the dishes. The food was divine - the calamari melted like hit butter and the lamb was perfect. Portion sizes are generous and were appreciated by the builders in our group. Many thanks to the staff who delivered a seamless and high quality service, all while looking very happy and confident in their roles. We will be back! More

Fabulous night out at this restaurant with twenty work colleagues. Enjoyed a fix menu with platters of different beautiful dishes brought to the table to share. Generous quantities. Particular enjoyed the fish and steak servings and their baked potatoes are a treat. Service was excellent.... Wine list perhaps a little expensive. Will definitely return. More

We’d walked by this place the night before and it was full and looked good so,decided to try. We were not disappointed. We had the meatballs and courgette fritters (my favourite) to start and then half a chicken and Greek salad both excellent and it... was so good to have a lovely Greek salad. I then opted for the baklava which was delicious but it even defeated me. A real gem of a restaurant with lovely friendly staff and owners. Well worth a visit. More

We were a group of 10. We had a great table in the back of the restaurant which was perfect for us. We couldn't fault the food, a range of interesting flavours and the food was cooked to perfection. Its the service that let our... experience down. They rushed us through and said we had to order the desserts as the kitchen was closing. As soon as we got our desserts they informed us they were closing the restaurant at 10pm. They didn't ask us if we wanted another drink and there here was no offer of coffees or teas. We had to finish our night much earlier than planned and it left us a bit disappointed with the evening. More

We went to a birthday dinner here and both the food and service were just wonderful. We had the Aphrodites banquet which is the basic option but these was still way more food than any of us could get through. The meat was very tender... and well seasoned. The staff explained each of the items on the table and took extra good care of our gluten free friend. Would definitely return. More

It was a "low key" anniversary dinner and my sister had given us a voucher for $100 for the Athens Yatch club. A strongly themed restaurant, with pictures of boats over all the walls - the irony that the venue is located in the middle... of the city, a long way from any water or marina was not lost on me. We were shown to a table by the entrance, lucky there wasn't too much foot traffic otherwise it wouldn't have been a great table. More

Really wonderful evening at the Athens Yacht Club. Fabulous food with great service. A taste of Greece in Christchurch. The seared Tuna was such a treat and the dips with Pita bread took us back to Athens.

My sister in law recommend this place and I have to say it was really amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and was amazing in explaining the menu and how it worked. We ended up have an amazing starters of Bread and Dip as well... as the Flaming Cheese which was to die for. For our main we went with the Roasted Potatoes the Lamb Shoulder the Ribeye Steak and a salad. The Lamb just fell of the bone and it was so nice but my favorite had to be the Steak. I would highly recommend going here for dinner. More

Husband and I always like to try different restaurants every month for our date nights. And this resto lived up to its expectations! We had the saganaki with flat bread, calamari, roast chicken, moussaka, roasted potatoes and they are all sooo delicious! Portion was very... generous! At this point we were stuffed!! but I saw that they had loukoumades (Greek donuts) and I knew I just had to order some! Best decision ever, those donuts were soft and crispy and just divine!! Could not fault anything. The service was exceptional too! 10/10 highly recommend. More

Some of the dishes would be among the best Greek Food I’ve had. The service is friendly, helpful and good and they can accommodate most palates. They serve tapas style and the dishes are meant for sharing, as a vegetarian you will find a lot... of options except in the mains there are limited mains for vegetarians but you can make it up with other dishes. Some of their dishes are a New Zealand twist on traditional Greek like the beetroot hummus. They are a short walk from the Mayfair and parking is street parking. More

Enjoyed a nice dinner at The Athens Yacht Club with 3 friends. The food was nice definitely enjoyed it but the waitress told us share 1 large plate between 2 people but the large plate wasn’t that big and each of us could’ve easily had... one big plate each. The service could’ve been better - it was too slow with ordering/delivering drinks/clearing plates and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. I would recommend but I wouldn’t say it’s a must visit. More

We enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends on an extremely hot evening. The restaurant was a nice cool temperature and tables well spaced so it felt very comfortable. The menu is modern greek food and we tried most of the appetiser and maze plates. Everything... was authentic and very well presented. Service was very good which is a rarity in Christchurch. This was our first visit to The Athens Yacht Club, perhaps lured by the 1:1 free dessert deal! We are glad we dined here. The location is convenient, the decor is nice, the service was good, the food was authentic and delicious. What else can... one ask for! No wonder that all the tables were full.. We were 3 vegetarians, and were well looked after by Judy. We shared breads and dip as a starter; gnocchi as main with a side of grilled asparagus & broccolini; and 2 desserts to finish. A fabulous experience from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with a smile and escorted to our table. The wait staff were attentive and friendly throughout the evening. We ordered a starter, entree, main and salad to share - the perfect amount of... food for two. The food was delicious and fresh, with the dishes coming out in perfect timing. The ambience of the room was vibrant with a buzz in the room. Highly recommend if you're after a good restaurant just on the outer fringe of the CBD. More

Had been wanting to go to this restaurant for awhile after hearing great things about it from friends. The restaurant was lovely, although busy it still felt cozy. Staff were helpful, efficient and attentive. The food was DEVINE! So much to choose and as I'm... vegetarian, I'm not used to having so many choices in a non specific vegetarian restaurant, but this was huge. In order to try as many flavors as possible we chose 2 starters and two entrees (rather than the larger mains) and shared a salad and then had the dessert platter. So much I still want to try so will be back. Highly recommend More

Down through the centuries since then, Greek food has gained a reputation far and wide for being healthy, delicious, fresh and flavourful. Luckily in Christchurch, food enthusiasts don’t have to go far to find outstanding Greek cuisine and good wine.

The Athens Yacht Club in Victoria Street is the epitome of a Greek family restaurant. Owners Emilios and Rebecca Kotzikas take their inspiration from his Greek Cypriot heritage. Sharing good food in a family environment is a large part of Greek culture, and that’s where Emilios and the team offer a taste of his homeland, right here in our central city.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY

Family plays a vital role, whether it is families dining, helping to test new menu options, or being part of the wider restaurant family. Passionate chefs, quality ingredients, and traditional recipes dating back hundreds of years, are what has put this restaurant on many foodie’s maps.

“We strive to bring you the total Greek experience with affordable quality, authenticity, and hospitality being our top priority,” says Emilios. Both he and Rebecca believe that dining out should be a memorable experience, every time, and hospitality helps dictate that.

“People forget what hospitality means. We look after them, greet them with a genuine smile, and make sure they have a great experience,” says Emilios. Wining goes with dining, and that’s especially true of Greek restaurants. Greece is, after all, the birthplace of Dionysus (god of wine), and the home of the first wine making. Emilios is as passionate about the wines on offer at The Athens Yacht Club, as he is about the restaurant’s traditional Greek fare.

WINES TO SAVOUR

“We produce so many beautiful wines in New Zealand, it would be a sin not to embrace them,” he explains. Labels such as Greystone, Mon Cheval, Pegasus Bay, Amisfield, Butterworth, Te Mata, Man-O-War, Maude, Blank Canvas, Nanny Goat, and Atra Rangi grace the wine list, a bonus for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

From Otago, Canterbury, Marlborough, Martinborough, and Hawke’s Bay to Waiheke Island, the drinks list includes many wines not found elsewhere locally, along with speciality cocktails, craft beers, and fine French Champagnes.

It’s fresh, fun, and full of so many traditions that once you take a bite, you’ll feel like you are laying back in Greece, sipping wine and dipping your bread in olive oil. Had been wanting to go to this restaurant for awhile after hearing great things about it from friends. The restaurant was lovely, although busy it still felt cozy. Staff were helpful, efficient and attentive. The food was DEVINE! So much to choose and as I'm... vegetarian, I'm not used to having so many choices in a non specific vegetarian restaurant, but this was huge. In order to try as many flavors as possible we chose 2 starters and two entrees (rather than the larger mains) and shared a salad and then had the dessert platter. So much I still want to try so will be back. Highly recommend More

We were greeted with a smile and seated at the bar for a drink before the rest of our group arrived. The bar staff were engaging, friendly and happy to allow me to taste wine before selecting it. The occasion was our work Christmas dinner... and once seated at our table we were really well looked after by our waitress. She guided us expertly in our choices to ensure we made the most of our experience. Despite the restaurant being very full our drinks were replenished quickly and our food arrived, with explanations that added to the dishes. The food was divine - the calamari melted like hit butter and the lamb was perfect. Portion sizes are generous and were appreciated by the builders in our group. Many thanks to the staff who delivered a seamless and high quality service, all while looking very happy and confident in their roles. We will be back! More

Fabulous night out at this restaurant with twenty work colleagues. Enjoyed a fix menu with platters of different beautiful dishes brought to the table to share. Generous quantities. Particular enjoyed the fish and steak servings and their baked potatoes are a treat. Service was excellent.... Wine list perhaps a little expensive. Will definitely return. More

We’d walked by this place the night before and it was full and looked good so,decided to try. We were not disappointed. We had the meatballs and courgette fritters (my favourite) to start and then half a chicken and Greek salad both excellent and it... was so good to have a lovely Greek salad. I then opted for the baklava which was delicious but it even defeated me. A real gem of a restaurant with lovely friendly staff and owners. Well worth a visit. More

We were a group of 10. We had a great table in the back of the restaurant which was perfect for us. We couldn't fault the food, a range of interesting flavours and the food was cooked to perfection. Its the service that let our... experience down. They rushed us through and said we had to order the desserts as the kitchen was closing. As soon as we got our desserts they informed us they were closing the restaurant at 10pm. They didn't ask us if we wanted another drink and there here was no offer of coffees or teas. We had to finish our night much earlier than planned and it left us a bit disappointed with the evening. More

We went to a birthday dinner here and both the food and service were just wonderful. We had the Aphrodites banquet which is the basic option but these was still way more food than any of us could get through. The meat was very tender... and well seasoned. The staff explained each of the items on the table and took extra good care of our gluten free friend. Would definitely return. More

It was a "low key" anniversary dinner and my sister had given us a voucher for $100 for the Athens Yatch club. A strongly themed restaurant, with pictures of boats over all the walls - the irony that the venue is located in the middle... of the city, a long way from any water or marina was not lost on me. We were shown to a table by the entrance, lucky there wasn't too much foot traffic otherwise it wouldn't have been a great table. More

Really wonderful evening at the Athens Yacht Club. Fabulous food with great service. A taste of Greece in Christchurch. The seared Tuna was such a treat and the dips with Pita bread took us back to Athens.

My sister in law recommend this place and I have to say it was really amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and was amazing in explaining the menu and how it worked. We ended up have an amazing starters of Bread and Dip as well... as the Flaming Cheese which was to die for. For our main we went with the Roasted Potatoes the Lamb Shoulder the Ribeye Steak and a salad. The Lamb just fell of the bone and it was so nice but my favorite had to be the Steak. I would highly recommend going here for dinner. More

Husband and I always like to try different restaurants every month for our date nights. And this resto lived up to its expectations! We had the saganaki with flat bread, calamari, roast chicken, moussaka, roasted potatoes and they are all sooo delicious! Portion was very... generous! At this point we were stuffed!! but I saw that they had loukoumades (Greek donuts) and I knew I just had to order some! Best decision ever, those donuts were soft and crispy and just divine!! Could not fault anything. The service was exceptional too! 10/10 highly recommend. More

Some of the dishes would be among the best Greek Food I’ve had. The service is friendly, helpful and good and they can accommodate most palates. They serve tapas style and the dishes are meant for sharing, as a vegetarian you will find a lot... of options except in the mains there are limited mains for vegetarians but you can make it up with other dishes. Some of their dishes are a New Zealand twist on traditional Greek like the beetroot hummus. They are a short walk from the Mayfair and parking is street parking. More

Enjoyed a nice dinner at The Athens Yacht Club with 3 friends. The food was nice definitely enjoyed it but the waitress told us share 1 large plate between 2 people but the large plate wasn’t that big and each of us could’ve easily had... one big plate each. The service could’ve been better - it was too slow with ordering/delivering drinks/clearing plates and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. I would recommend but I wouldn’t say it’s a must visit. More

We enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends on an extremely hot evening. The restaurant was a nice cool temperature and tables well spaced so it felt very comfortable. The menu is modern greek food and we tried most of the appetiser and maze plates. Everything... was authentic and very well presented. Service was very good which is a rarity in Christchurch. This was our first visit to The Athens Yacht Club, perhaps lured by the 1:1 free dessert deal! We are glad we dined here. The location is convenient, the decor is nice, the service was good, the food was authentic and delicious. What else can... one ask for! No wonder that all the tables were full.. We were 3 vegetarians, and were well looked after by Judy. We shared breads and dip as a starter; gnocchi as main with a side of grilled asparagus & broccolini; and 2 desserts to finish. A wonderful night. More
