Business name : Brading Haven Yacht Club

Welcome to Brading Haven Yacht club. We were fashioned over sixty years ago to provide waterborne sports inside the sheltered waters at the eastern give up of the Island. we’re primarily based at the some distance cease of Bembridge Harbour with our very own moorings and boat parking facilities. if you don’t have your personal boat to sail, the club has some of boats used for education or to be had to lease for racing. The club is also a regarded RYA training membership covering all the dinghy guides and basic powerboat schooling. Robin Lobb

For those who love the water but won’t need to go out on it all of the time the club presents a bar and restaurant centers. we’ve got full range of social sports, along with live music, girls’ lunches, a bridge group and visitor audio system in addition to formal and informal dinners and dances. We invite journeying yachtsman and sailing rallies to revel in our facilities and we are acknowledged to be one of the friendliest clubs on the south coast. Please do call in and go to us or contact us for extra data.

Here at BHYC we encourage all boaters to make the most of their pursuit, whether it be racing dinghies or cruising under power or sail. We have some of the best waters for sail training around the IOW and as a recognised RYA Training Establishment we seek to develop confidence and competence on the water through a varied programme for all ages and abilities. Our dinghy racing calendar, one of the most varied and comprehensive in the Solent, is open to all sailors and we encourage members to get involved either by racing or in support roles, perhaps in a patrol boat, or as race officer. We look forward to seeing you on the water!

Join a BHYC group induction session and we will quickly get you up and riding so you are confident and competent to hire a BHYC SUP.

Our SUP group induction is perfect for Club members and families to get out on the water and meet other members and have fun. Our group inductions will run throughout the summer season.

SUP Ready to Ride Induction

Learning to paddle board is fast and fun. In this two hour induction, we will give you the information you need to get on the water, get on your feet and keep safe. You will be given an introduction to how the weather and environment affects you, how to carry the board and paddle, paddling technique, how to paddle in a straight line, different types of turns and self-rescue.

This is a nice way to try your hand at this great activity and explore Bembridge Harbour while SUPing with a group of people with a similar ability.

Once completed, you will be signed off and able to hire a BHYC SUP.

Price per session with a Club board is £10.

Please join our mailing list if you want to be the first to hear about our next SUP session by emailing training.

The Sailing Committee

The Offshore Committee has charge of the Club boats and all matters relating to sailing, mooring, storage and parking of boats.

Sailing Support

Our Club staffs nearly 200 series & special races plus the Regatta in August, plus numerous RYA training courses, coaching events and Activity Week. This is a busy club. Would you like to help by helming or crewing a patrol boat or undertaking Race Officer duties? Training will be provided. All sailors greatly appreciate those who assist in this way. This opportunity is open to ALL members - not just those who sail dinghies regularly. Apart from sailing, what better way to enjoy our fair breezes and glorious sunshine than out on the ocean in one of our patrol boats. To learn more about sailing support at BHYC, please contact our Sailing Support Officer by emai l

Sailing at Brading Haven Yacht Club

Sailing in the Harbour and in Bembridge Bay

From BHYC we have access to some of the best sailing waters around the Isle of Wight, including the harbour itself which has a long history of small boat sailing including local designs such as the Scow and Swan. Apart from dredged areas most of the harbour dries out at low tide, although dinghy sailing is possible from about 2 hours either side of High Water, which is only a few minutes different from HW Portsmouth. Sailing outside the harbour is magnificent for small craft, however fast tidal currents occur through the narrow entrance. Members may launch and recover their craft from the Club at any time subject to tidal constraints. For further information and local advice please contact the Club's Bosun (see contacts).

Launching & Berthing

The Club's Bosun is responsible for maintaining the Club moorings. Further information about the allocation is available on the website or from the Club Secretary. There are 3 pontoons at the Club. At the western end a slipway enables launching on most neap tides and from about 2 hours after Low Water on springs. Members may use the western deep-water pontoon for short-stay only (max 22hrs) for example for loading/unloading; please inform the Bosun of your intentions. Berthed on the eastern side of this pontoon are the Club's safety and support boats. Visitors may moor their dinghies on the outermost marked end of this pontoon when visiting the Club. Members are also asked to keep this pontoon area clear during race times (see programme). Fast-Handicap dinghies are mostly kept at the western end of the Dinghy Park and Slow Handicap at the eastern end; there is also an apron for Scows at the front. Members' tenders are put on the water inside the eastern pontoon for the summer months and in the stowage racks (or taken home) during winter. Please contact the Club Secretary for further information. Fresh water is available for hosing down boats but please use sparingly. A hand winch is available for recovering craft from the slipways (contact the Bosun). Changing rooms and shower facilities are located at the western end of the Club House.

Gear Storage

Members may store sails, rigs and outboard motors in the sail store at the western end of the boathouse. Please label items and keep the room tidy. There is a number lock on the door to store, please see the Bosun for the code.

Cruising Section

The Cruising section is led by the Cruising Captain. Rallies and social events are organised throughout the year:

A Programme of Racing and Sailing Instructions are produced each year (see the links above). All sailors are very welcome to join in the racing but must first sign an Annual Indemnity Form obtainable from the office. A chartlet showing race marks and buoyage is available from the Club bar. Those wishing to race must report to the Race Officer in the Sailing Centre at least 30 minutes prior to the race start, and 'Sign-On'. Many races start in the harbour from the Club Line, between the Sailing Centre and an outer black and white post on the old sea wall. However in the summer races are often started from a committee boat outside the harbour. Racing mainly takes places in three classes, Fast Handicap, Slow Handicap and Scow. In addition, Swans and Wayfarers currently have their own race series within these races. The BHYC Regatta is normally held in August, attracting boats from other clubs. A popular Icebreaker Series, open to all Island sailors, is held during the months of January to March. Please see the Sailing programme for more details. BHYC is affiliated to East Wight Combined Clubs (EWCC) that co-ordinates inter-club events ( www.ewcc.co.uk ) and local regattas. All members are invited to volunteer for race support duties as Race Officer, crew or helm if suitably qualified. For further information contact [email protected]
