What's so great about a catamaran? A catamaran denotes a boat with two hulls or compartments that enable the vessel to displace water evenly on both sides. This design allows the catamaran to avoid rocking, as a traditional, single-hulled sailboat does. For folks on vacation--this point is a gold nugget--those that are not accustomed to boats tend to get seasick.

Why the double-hull design is a vacationers best boat friend:

Stable, non-rocking design . Why is this important? Because as the hull heaves so may your stomach.

Plenty of storage space with 2 hulls . And, if the kids fight, we can separate them.

Speed. The catamaran is twice as fast as a traditional sailboat. Save the monohull for the land turtles! (Sea turtles are fast too.)

Light footprint. A Stiletto can maneuver in shallow water due to a broader displacement of water across two lightweight hulls (Crab Island, here we come!)

Built for comfort. You aren't awkwardly lounging on a sloping deck like a monohull sailboat.

Maximized deck space. The catamaran has two opposing benches with cushions, as well as 80 square feet of trampoline for lounging and watching the waves.

If you are thinking of chartering just any ol' catamaran, let me tell you why the Stiletto brand makes this boat even groovier:

Built light for speed. Although you may want to relax on your Destin sailing cruise, never forget, this cat has speed in its back pocket. The catamaran tops out at 25 knots (20 mph). In Destin, we can safely cruise at 15 knots with the jib (front sail) raised, and feel the power.

It will never sink . Aeronautic technology is utilized in its honey comb laminate that enables the material itself to float, not relying on the intact body of the vessel. So, no matter what the Florida waters bring, this puppy floats.

Versatility of design. You can beach it; you can trailor it. When was the last time you saw a monohull sailboat pulled up on the beach or roaming down the highway? This boat goes everywhere. But watch out, you might catch catamaran fever thinking of the possibilities of where you could take it!

Here is a write-up of a much loved itinerary that

may save you from being one of the many people

who ride into the dock thinking, "I wish I had

longer on the sailboat!"

The sails are set due south from Captain Jambo's

peaceful, scenic bay dock. With tummies full of

butterflies and expectations, we sail through the

glowing, emerald waves, under the Destin Bridge,

through the Destin Pass, and East and West Jetties to the magnificent Gulf of Mexico. Here, we look for bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, and other marine life. We sail along Florida's beaches, marveling at the beauty of the water and sugar white beach. Next, the sails are set north, back through the Destin Pass to the world famous, Crab Island. This shallow, clear sandbar is a hot spot for Destin boaters' fun in the sun. Catch a margarita or some fish tacos at the festive Waterworld Restaurant and Bar. Play with the kids on the giant, inflatable waterpark. Just remember, no babysitting your pontoon boat, come and go as you please to check out the festivities, your captain will be happy to hold the anchor! After you've had your fill of Crab lsland, we sail to the nearby grassbeds for snorkeling. Crabs and fish abound here. You might even spot a majestic seahorse! Take our underwater Gro Pro camera to document your adventure! Next door is one of the few areas to find seashells in Destin, so take some souvenirs home from your hunt. When your pockets are full, we will set sails again for a relaxing sail through the calm waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay, watching the explosive

Eat The Fresh Catch At FOOW

WaterColor Inn & Resort is home to a handful of dining options, but FOOW (short for Fish Out of Water) might just be our favorite. Open daily, FOOW is the spot for brunch on the weekends, a quick lunch after visiting the beach, a (daily) happy hour cocktail, or a dinner with sunset views.

Sip Your Favorite Vintage At The Wine Bar

This sophisticated spot in WaterColor's petite town center features patio seating, a charming French bistro-inspired interior, and an adjoining market with all the fixings of a stellar wine and cheese party. The Wine Bar pours wines of all varieties, has a happy hour special every day, and offers food specials a few nights a week. Stick to sipping on the shaded patio, or order pizza, a cheese board, or another dish from the full menu to turn your wine tasting into a meal.

Shop In Seaside

Bike, walk, or—if you must—drive across WaterColor's eastern border to reach Seaside's Center Square , less than half a mile from the heart of WaterColor. A short drive away, you’ll find this small laid-back beach town . Play At The BoatHouse

Tucked back in WaterColor's residential area, the BoatHouse sits on the banks of Western Lake, a coastal dune lake, and is your home base for water adventures. Rent canoes or kayaks for a paddle around the lake on your own, or sign up for an adventure tour. If you've fallen hard for SUP, the BoatHouse has those, too: The BoatHouse Paddle Club offers stand-up paddleboard rentals, lessons, and even paddleboard-based workouts.

Bike Down The Trails

Stop by the WaterColor Bike Barn , adjacent to the BoatHouse, to pick up a bike, and spend the rest of your day exploring the area's extensive woodland trail system. Ride miles of scenic nature trails that course through preserved state park forests, across the community's charming bridges, and around coastal dune lakes. If you prefer sticking to paved paths, pedal through WaterColor's residential areas, enjoying the shaded roads and taking in the gorgeously designed homes of this waterfront enclave. Play On The Beach

Be sure to leave plenty of time during your stay in WaterColor to enjoy the bone-white, powder-soft sand and clear cerulean waters. Sailing from Marathon Key you will experience the many pleasures and sites of the Florida Keys. The unspoiled coral reefs of the Lower Keys have many sites where you can tie up to a mooring ball and snorkel or dive. Hawks Channel provides fantastic sailing, as there is protection from the ocean swells but still great wind.

Across the Gulf Steam from Florida's east coast lies the Bimini Island Chain. These sub tropical low-lying islands are a fantastic destination for a weeklong sail. Bimini offers some of the finest SCUBA diving, snorkeling, fishing and beachcombing anywhere. These "islands in the stream" offer water clarity, which is nothing less than spectacular. You may rent snorkel gear at our office in Ft. Lauderdale if you have not brought your own. For those who are certified divers we recommend renting your SCUBA gear from Underseas Sports in Ft. Lauderdale before you head across the Gulf Stream.

The Bimini Chain is lightly populated with the center of village life located on North Bimini, in Alice Town. There are many small restaurants, shops, and bars, as well as the Hemingway Museum at the complete Angler. Marinas are abundant if you decide not to anchor out. The beaches on North Bimini offer miles of un-crowded fine white sand and snorkeling from the waters edge. Golf Carts and Mopeds are available for rent so you can explore the island. One of the most interesting dive and snorkel sites off of North Bimini is "Bimini Road", which some say is the ruin of the lost city of Atlantis.

South Bimini is primarily residential with only two marinas. The new Bimini Sands Marina is located at the entrance to the harbor and has a Customs and Immigration office so you can clear in there without having to take a taxi and ferry over to North Bimini. The other marina is located at the south end of the island. A new channel has been dredged in Nixon's Harbor that takes you into the marina. Not far from the south end of South Bimini lies the wreck of the "Sappona". This is a great snorkel and dive site.

The only other island in the Bimini's with a marina is on North Cat Cay. This is a private Island with some "high profile" homeowners. For this reason the local authorities limit the accessibility of the island for non-members. You are welcome at the Marina for transient dockage but they prefer for you to stay in the area of the marina where there is a fine dining restaurant a store for provisions, dock bar, and gift shop. It is a truly beautiful setting at the marina and we recommend this for your last night in the Bahamas. Just off the coast of South Cat Cay is a fantastic dive site. "Tuna Alley" has mooring balls and is 50' to 80' with deep caverns and crevasses in the coral.

There are many other Anchorages such as Honeymoon Harbour, Dollar Harbour. Moxom Rocks, and Nixon Harbour. Please call to speak with our knowledgeable staff for more details.

From WEST of Destin (Ft Walton Beach, Pensacola) Take Hwy 98 East to Destin over the Destin Bridge. 1/2 mile after the bridge, turn right into our parking lot.

If you’re planning a family vacation to WaterColor, Florida, you’re in for a treat! The community of WaterColor is full of kid friendly activities for the whole family, including small children. With its resort pools, beautiful beaches, and scenic trails, WaterColor, FL offers something fun for everyone!

As a child, I grew up visiting Florida’s Gulf Coast on an annual basis. Each summer my family and I visited places like Sandestin, Miramar Beach, and Panama City Beach. It wasn’t until traveling down scenic Highway 30A a few years ago that the town of WaterColor, Florida piqued my interest. On our way from Santa Rosa Beach to the town of Seaside (which is the setting for the movie The Truman Show ), we passed through the picturesque community of WaterColor, Florida.

With a location right on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, WaterColor sits just east of Grayton Beach State Park and just west of towns like Seaside, Seagrove, and Rosemary Beach. This location on 30A provides direct beach access to the crystal clear waters and white, sandy beaches of the Emerald Coast in the Florida panhandle.

In this post, we will discuss our top picks for fun things to do in WaterColor, Florida . This full guide to WaterColor, FL will serve as a family review of our favorite activities in the area. We will also include some great ideas for things to do NEAR WaterColor, Florida in case you plan to venture just outside this beautiful beach community during your trip.

1. Visit WaterColor Beach Club

WaterColor Beach Club is located at the WaterColor Inn and Resort and provides incredible views of the Gulf of Mexico. You can experience all sorts of fun activities at the beach club, including beach access, swimming pools, dining options, and more! Once you check in for your accommodations, you will receive a wristband for each member of your party (5 years old and up).

This wristband allows you to access the WaterColor Beach Club. We HIGHLY recommend spending time here while in the area. As you enter the WaterColor Beach Club , each guest can pick up a pool towel for free. This is a huge relief to those traveling with kids as you don’t have to worry about lugging around heavy, sandy towels on your vacation.

The pool towels can be used both at the beach and on the pool deck. Additionally, you will find several bins located throughout the property to return your towels when finished. If you’re looking for a great restaurant for lunch, WaterColor Grill features a poolside menu with kid-friendly options.

Their menu changes in the evening to the dinner menu, and it’s just as great! My kids loved the cheese quesadilla with a side of fries. The adults couldn’t stop raving about the meatballs entree over polenta. I highly recommend trying it! With its gorgeous ocean views and live music a few nights a week, WaterColor Grill easily became one of our favorite restaurants on this trip!

2. Play on the White Sand Beaches

If you enjoy sitting on the white sandy beaches, you’ll want to consider booking beach chairs before your trip. Prior to our visit, we had an option to book the Middle Section or the West Section at WaterColor. After watching the WaterColor beach cams for several weeks, we noticed that the Middle Section tended to look less crowded.

So, we booked beach chair setups for the Premium Middle Section during our stay. It’s important to note that the West Section is closer to the Beach Club. So, make sure you are ok with a bit of a longer walk to the Middle Section before purchasing. Also, the Premium (aka front row) seats were sold out for one of our dates.

We secured a reservation for Standard beach chairs for this day, but my husband was able to upgrade to Premium seats the day of. If you are traveling with kids to the WaterColor area, we have a few recommendations on items to add to your beach packing list .

3. Explore on a Golf Cart

As mentioned above, you can rent a golf cart to use during your stay in WaterColor. This comes in really handy when you are traveling with a large group of people. The golf cart makes it super easy to tote your beach bags, boogie boards, sand toys, coolers, and chairs down to the beach.

In the evenings, we had a ball exploring WaterColor on our rented golf cart. You can easily drive around the town of WaterColor, Seaside, and Camp WaterColor. The golf cart also helps make it easy to grab groceries at Publix or to pick up takeout from a local restaurant.

4. Enjoy Camp WaterColor Pool

One of the best amenities of staying at the WaterColor Resort is the access to Camp WaterColor Pool. This elaborate swimming area features two water slides (one large and one small), a lazy river, and multiple swimming areas for families.

If you work up an appetite while swimming, you can grab a bite to eat at The Canteen pool bar. They even offer happy hour specials during certain times a few evenings a week.

5. Play Basketball

Just outside the Camp WaterColor Pool, you’ll find a small court for playing basketball. We noticed this was a popular spot for teenagers to hang out while visiting the WaterColor community.

6. Listen to Live Music

As mentioned above, the WaterColor Beach Club features live music multiple nights a week. You can also find live entertainment throughout WaterColor by checking their events calendar during the dates of your stay.

7. Play Games on the Lawn

As you walk around the WaterColor community, you’ll notice various grassy areas throughout the property. These are perfect spots to play lawn games like Cricket, soccer, or Bocce Ball while on vacation.

8. Go on a Bike Ride

As you walk around WaterColor, you’ll notice a bike path pretty much everywhere you turn. The vacation house we rented provided six bikes, but you can also rent them while in WaterColor.

Just note that you are supposed to walk your bike across the walking bridge rather than riding it. WaterColor has posted a sign about this, but we noticed many bikers riding across the bridge.

9. Book a Beach Bonfire

While reserving beach chair setups, you’ll notice the option to book a beach bonfire. You can do this via the WaterColor Inn and Resort website. Although we ran out of time and did not get to experience a beach bonfire, it’s definitely on our list for our next visit.

10. Play Tennis

The WaterColor community features five tennis courts that are perfect for visitors wanting to get in a match during their trip. You’ll also find a Pro Shop selling merchandise and renting equipment.

11. Swim in the Community Pools

In addition to the elaborate pools at the WaterColor Beach Club and Camp WaterColor, guests are free to use the smaller community pools placed throughout the property. If you’re looking for a less crowded pool, these may be your best bet!

12. Play on the Playground

Just outside the entrance to Camp WaterColor, you’ll find a nice sized playground that’s perfect for kids. With multiple slides and swings, this playground is a great option for kids of any size.

13. Explore the Nature Trails

In addition to the paved pathways you’ll find in WaterColor, visitors will also see multiple nature trails for walking or biking. These were all stroller friendly, but the ride did get a bit bumpy for my toddler. As you walk along the trails, make sure you keep your eyes out for cats, squirrels, and lizards.

Our little kids loved finding these animals on our daily walks. One afternoon, we even saw a family of deer standing super close to the nature trail near Camp WaterColor. I don’t think the momma deer was as excited to see us as we were to see her though. She watched us really carefully while we strolled by.

I want to make a final, important note about the wildlife before moving on. You will notice signs near the bridge stating NOT to jump off the bridge into the lake. We saw many teenagers ignoring this sign each day of our trip. Even though the sign is probably meant to deter them from hurting themselves as they jump in the water, the teens we passed by were not aware that alligators are present in the lake.

While walking across the bridge one evening, we saw a very large alligator swimming in the middle of the lake toward the bridge. This gator was just under the surface of the water, but when it turned around you could see the whole outline of its body. It looked to be about seven feet long or more. Many of the other visitors who stopped to watch it with us stated that their kids often swim in the lake, and they had no idea alligators lived there. Just a word of warning in are considering swimming in the lake.

14. Browse through the Local Shops

Just outside the WaterColor Beach Club, you’ll notice several shops selling apparel and other merchandise. These boutiques offered super cute items, especially for women and kids. Across the street near the Wine Bar, you’ll also find a Candy Store that was a huge hit with our crew.

15. Enjoy Water Sports

The WaterColor Boathouse is located just a short walk from the Beach Club. Here you’ll find water activity rentals like paddle boards and kayaks available for guests. You can rent equipment and even sign up for lessons for these water sports. You can rent water equipment to enjoy in the ocean as well. While we did not use the paddle board rentals at the beach, our family did enjoy boogie boarding in the waves.

16. Attend Happy Hour at the Wine Bar

The Wine Bar in WaterColor is located right in the town center near the Beach Club. With its extensive wine list, the Wine Bar is the perfect place to unwind after a long day in the sun. Since it is located right in the heart of WaterColor, the Wine Bar sits in a great spot for stopping in for a quick glass of wine on your way to Seaside. This became our favorite place to visit at the end of the evening since you can purchase a bottle of wine and various cheeses to take back to your rental house or hotel room.

Those planning a trip to the WaterColor resort town have more than likely seen images of the luxurious WaterColor Inn. The WaterColor Inn and Resort is a high-end hotel that is located beachfront in the community. This amazing hotel is a great place to stay as it features some of the best restaurants in the area along with multiple pools and amenities.

Not to mention, visitors get to enjoy the best views of Florida’s Gulf Coast right in the heart of WaterColor. Visitors traveling to the area as part of large groups may be interested in a vacation rental property in WaterColor rather than in a reservation at the inn. The WaterColor, Florida houses you find often feature much more space than a hotel room at the resort.

These rental properties may even feature additional amenities like full kitchens, laundry rooms, and private pools. If you’re worried about not being located directly on the beach, fret not! You need to do this.When you go to Destin, you need to book this yacht and spend time with up to 12 of your friends having the most wonderful time of your life. The boat is amazing and the crew was phenomenal. Unbelievable experience. I booked my mastermind retreat a tour on this yacht while we were in town and everyone raved about it.

Wow, what a great day on a beautiful boat. The Captain and mate Lauren were incredibly kind. We had a wonderful champagne to begin our cruise. Shortly after we were surrounded on both sides of the boat by porpoises. Then we went tubing via jet ski! Finally, a visit to Crab island. It was just a perfect trip!!!! We will definitely recommend to our friends and return for another visit ourselves!

Fantastic first-class experience. The yacht was clean and beautiful, the crew charming, fun-loving, and knowledgeable. Our families will cherish the memory forever. I don’t know if this is normal, but we had dolphins swimming with us probably a dozen times. Oh and... BEAUTIFUL SUNSET!

Awesome experience with this charter! The Captain Jenna was fantastic, she found a perfect spot to see the dolphins and sharks! Our crew, Michelle and Carrie were outstanding and very attentive to our group of 10. Thank you ladies, you rock!!! P.S. I would give you 5 stars if I could. BTW, the boat is a beauty!!!

I am not normally one to write a review but after our charter we were so pleased I wanted to be sure to leave one. I can't say enough about Holloway Yacht Charters. S/V Cheval is a 1995 Outremer 50 Standard catamaran, for sale by owner. We purchased Cheval in January 2013. As the second owners we have continuously upgraded her including her most recent upgrade late 2023 through 2024 in preparation for a pacific passage. A change of plans creates a rare opportunity to acquire this Outremer 50 standard ready to cross an ocean.

As of this writing to the best of my knowledge she is the only Outremer 50 standard currently for sale in the world. Sometimes referred to as the Porsche of catamarans this boat has the speed you would expect while being large enough to provide comfortable accommodations.

As she is only cored in the decks with solid hulls the common occurrence of water found in the cored hull at survey will not be a problem.

S/V Bonaventure 1 a Florida based 1994 Fountaine Pajot Tobago 35 catamaran for sale by owner.

M/Y Fat Cat is a 2002 Endeavour Catamaran 44 Trawler Cat catamaran, for sale by owner. I love this boat as its main characteristics are she has prop pockets and 3ft draw. This is very good for cruising Florida and Bahamas, also with a narrow beam as catamarans come. We can usually find regular berths and not pay for a double.

She has fuel flow scan meters, and it is a joy to see the economy of the Yanmars. I never owned such an efficient boat with this square footage, and 1500 mile range at 8-10 knots. All work has been done in last two years, as I just purchased the boat in the Fall of 2020. Previous owner was a snow bird and rarely was down.

We are coming back home to get a bigger boat. Fat Cat has been great to us but we need more space as the kids have decided to cruise the eastern Caribbean with us. The western Caribbean has been great, its like a condo. You can move around the marinas and are very affordable. Easy to see in the water, ready to run.

Built by French Jeanneau in a joint production venture with TPI in Warren, Rhode Island, USA to the highest standards of construction and finish; the Lagoon 37 has good sailing ability and excellent interior and exterior living space. Designers of the Lagoon 42, Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prevost reproduced the winning formula in a smaller boat.

S/V Ego Domi is a 2003 Royal Cape 45 catamaran, for sale by owner. A fantastic family boat, Ego Domi is a bluewater cruising catamaran built in 2003 at Durban, South Africa. She was sailed across the Atlantic to Florida in 2003 by the original owner and never entered into the charter trade.

This is a large, well-appointed catamaran. Royal Cape catamarans are a very good value, are built with solid construction and are well-tried cruising boats. They are built very tough, as they were designed to handle conditions off the African East coast. This boat is great in rough seas with virtually no bridge deck slap due to the buoyancy of the hulls. Being well built, one shouldn’t expect a racing catamaran, but then again, if you’re looking for a catamaran with a large interior volume, which will keep 8 or so guests in consummate comfort, you could make worst choices than this RCC.

Originally built with fiberglass over a wood core as a 5 cabin and 5 head charter boat, she was converted to 4 cabins and 4 heads in 2005 by the previous owners. The 5th cabin was converted into a tool / spare parts/storage room while the 5th head was converted into a battery storage room. During conversion, it was noted that the laminated bulkheads were 2” thick; main bulkhead is 3” in places.

S/V Freedom is 45 foot Lagoon 450F Owner version Catamaran built in 2013. This cat features a “Fly Bridge” and is ready for you to step aboard and set sail.

With the galley up design just off the cockpit in the salon keeps everyone included in the fun. The galley is fully equipped and the salon is loaded with a Samsung TV, Bosh washing machine and Raymarine I70 displays.

The 3 staterooms are all equipped with queen sized berths with hanging lockers and ample storage throughout with custom shelving added to the owner’s suite. S/V Beguiler is a 2001 Endeavour 44 SailCat catamaran, for sale by owner. Check out our rare 44 ft Endeavour sailing catamaran, manufactured in Clearwater, Florida. Endeavour’s quality craftsmanship has stood the test of time.

She looks amazing and was built for extended cruising and not the charter market, as is evident in its abundance of storage. We have owned Beguiler for 10 years, and used her for cruising the Bahamas every winter. Her previous 13 years were spent in the summers on Lake Ontario. S/V Wonder is a 2008 Lagoon 500 catamaran, for sale by owner. She has had only TWO owners and has NEVER been chartered. Wonder is fully equipped with everything that you could ask for, from two electrical diving compressors to fixed stainless steel lifelines that are also extended higher up for even more safety. M/Y Traveller is a gorgeous 2013 Owner’s version Leopard 39 Powercat catamaran, for sale by owner.  She is powered with the Leopard factory upgraded Yanmar 150hp engines. Currently, engines are running great and Traveller cruises at a spirited 14 knots – with a max speed of 18 knots.

M/Y Side by Side is a 2008 Endeavour Trawlercat 44 catamaran, for sale by owner. She is number 45 of approximately 55 built. Production stopped after the company was sold following owner Bob Vincent’s death.

Side by Side has the upgraded 315 hp 6 cylinder Yanmar 6LPA-STP turbo diesel engines installed in the later models. She has 3 queen staterooms, one with a walk around bed. Two large enclosed heads have separate showers.

The Mayotte 37 is a roomy, well constructed, attractive, well cared for, comfortable, good performing cruising catamaran, the precursor to the Voyage 50. She features 4 queen sized cabins with ensuite baths and a single crew cabin. There is good access in the aft engine rooms and a wide, aft platform stores the dinghy and is very handy at anchor too.

The cockpit is roomy with custom hardtop supporting the solar panels. The main salon and galley up are very spacious. Four Queen berthed cabins with electric heads are comfortable, plenty of lockers, well ventilated with hatches, ports, and fans. Swish had a major refit in 2018, hauled and bottom painted in September 2022. She is well equipped and ready to voyage.

S/V Aireze is a Florida based 1999 Gemini 105M catamaran for sale by owner.  The Gemini 105 was designed to be affordable, compact, relatively easy vessels for sailors new to catamarans.  It is one of the most popular catamaran designs ever built with over 1,200 hulls constructed.

I have owned her since 2016 and maintained her on a regular basis with lots of current updated equipment including new autopilot, electric winch, electric head, 12V refrigeration, standing rigging, and much more in the full equipment list. She has a 2005 Westerbeke engine and new saildrive 2017.
