Operated by Costa Azzurra , the electric catamaran service is certainly something visitors Louvre Abu Dhabi must not miss. Lasting for 30 minutes at the cost of AED350 or for an hour at the cost of AED600, every catamaran can sit up to two people at a time. So, you might want to take this tour with your special one! It should be noted that this tour runs every day between 10 AM to 10 PM, which means visitors are expected to arrive 15 minutes before their slot, according to the information available on the official website.

Not The Only Water Related Experience Available Here

However, at this point, it’s worth noting that this is not the only water-related experience that is available at the iconic landmark in Abu Dhabi. Perched on the Arabian Gulf, this museum had previously launched guided tours on a kayak! However, unlike the catamaran ride, the kayak tour runs only one trip daily for up to 25 people. Moreover, this service is available from Tuesday to Sunday and it costs AED126 per person. As such, this tour begins at 5:30 PM and lasts for about an hour.

Don’t Forget To Explore The Ongoing Exhibitions

And while you’re here, once you’re done taking the ride, don’t forget to check out the museum’s ongoing exhibition. Yes, this includes Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design, which presently features 400 pieces of jewellery, textiles, photographs, and drawings. All of these show the influences of Islamic art on Cartier’s designs. Another exhibition called Letters Of Light is also happening at the museum, which presents holy books of the three Abrahamic religions – the Christian bible, the Hebrew, and the Quran. Not to mention, you also get to explore sacred texts featuring works of skilled calligraphers, artists and bookbinders.

Activities & Offerings For Children As Well

Located in Saadiyat, there are currently several activities that have been planned for families. This includes the Paper Making and Abstract Calligraphy (under the Letters Of Light exhibition) and even Book An Easel, happening on every Sunday.

Sail around Louvre Abu Dhabi on an electric catamaran

Visitors to Louvre Abu Dhabi can now enjoy the marvels of the museum via a catamaran cruise.

From Wednesday, guests can book an electric catamaran tour for a sail around the museum. The experience costs Dh350 for 30 minutes or Dh600 for an hour, with up to two people per catamaran.

Operated by Costa Azzurra, the tour runs daily from 10am to 10pm, and visitors are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to their slot.

This is not the only water-related experience at the striking Louvre Abu Dhabi , perched on the Arabian Gulf.

The museum previously launched a guided tour on a kayak. Unlike the catamaran ride, the kayak tour runs one trip daily for up to 25 people, from Tuesday to Sunday. It costs Dh126 per person with the tour beginning at 5.30pm and lasting an hour.

Once the water-based tours conclude, guests can check out the museum's ongoing exhibitions, including Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design , which features 400 pieces of jewellery, drawings, textiles and photographs showing the influence of Islamic art on Cartier's designs.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is also the perfect place to view the nightly drone show , part of the city-wide Manar Abu Dhabi light art exhibition, running until January 30. The 24-minute show, one of many commissioned for the exhibition, depicts Saadiyat Island's architectural attractions, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a rendering of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi , due to open in 2025.

The Eastern Mangroves are a lovely natural habitat right in the heart of Abu Dhabi . Not too surprising, you can also tour through that area. Eco Donut Boats offers electric driven ships to do so. During our last stay in the United Arab Emirates Capital, we went for a one hour catamaran tour. Here are my thoughts about it.

Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats – Location & Pricing

The home base of the Abu Dhabi branch of Eco Donut Boats (who also operate in Malta and Miami ) is right at the harbor next to the Anantara Eastern Mangroves Abu Dhabi Hotel, which you can easily reach by car via the E10 road. There are sufficient free parking lots right at the hotel. The area also features some nice bars, cafes and restaurant – so it is really nice for a relaxing trip.

You can book a book every day between 9:00 and 23:00 hrs. I guess that the catamaran tour we did is not possible during darkness. We had a trip at 11:00 – which was likely a bit too late to see all possible wildlife. Pricing depends on the boat and duration of rental. Details are below – the current pricing is in line with the prices during our booking.

Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats – The Boats

Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats offers two types of boats. The classic rental is the circular and signature Donut Boat. You can self-drive them, the maximum speed is 4 knots / 7.4 kph. A full tour through the mangroves would take you several hours and is thus unrealistic. It accommodates up to 580 kgs. It is driven by batteries loaded by solar panels. The shortest rental is a 30 minute rental for 200 AED (ca. 45 EUR). The price list also holds a price for one hour (300 AED) and two hours (500 AED). With a two hour rental you might just make it to the first bird observation point.

The more posh way is renting a catamaran, which is also electric. Apart from the size (capacity: ten passengers) it has two key differences: first of all, the camaran is much quicker (12 kph), the tour we did once around the mangroves was just one hour. The second difference is that it comes with a captain, who is driving it. you can discuss a tour with him, but we had some issues with that (see below). They offer 15 minute try-out tours for 20 AED per person, which is likely a non-sensible option. A 30 minute tour is 250 AED, an hour 400 AED – so that the surplus on the fancy Eco Donuts is surprisingly small (especially keeping in mind that you have a captain on board).

Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats – The Tour

We had the one hour tour, which you can see on the website of the Eco Donut boats . Thereby, the full round trip, anti-clockwise took us roughly 65 to 70 minutes, including stopping at one of the observation points. Thus, the value for money was really good. Heading anti-clockwise, you first pass a harbor area, which undoubtedly is the least attractive part of the trip. Once you enter the mangroves, though, you meet the first wildlife – from the boat, you majorly just see birds. One thing I absolutely enjoyed during the whole tour was the contrast of the mangrove ecosystem and the skyscrapers in the background.

The catamaran is very comfortable, you can also have some drinks with you. You also run into other people exploring the magroves, for example by canoeing. There are police patrols to ensure that wildlife is not disturbed – they enforce strict rules about the vessels which may cruise in the area.

The deeper you get into the mangroves, the more you get in touch with wildlife. Unfortunately, our guard was very reserved and also not that strong in English – there was definitely more potential to get introduced to the birds. We made one stop at the watching area you see below, which also features a bird watching tower. We however felt it was much more amazing to watch all the crab running on the ground.

I guess that there are better times to watch the birds than the one we had. Nonetheless, it was quite interesting to explore the animals. Apart from that, the area is simply relaxing.

The last section of the trip was not too attractive regarding bird watching. You could see the Anantara grounds and buildings from quite a distance already before the boat finally made it back to the harbor.

Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats – My View

The catamaran ride with Abu Dhabi Eco Donut Boats is definitely one of the less well-known attractions of the capital. We did have an enjoyable time, indeed – a better guide / captain would have lead to a significantly better experience. I definitely have to try the donut boats as well one day – they definitely feel to be fun. Another positive fact is that we felt that pricing is really fair, especially regarding having a guided tour through that lovely habitat.

Electric boats

This two-seater luxury electric catamaran from china is surprisingly affordable.

If you’re planning on hitting the lake or oceanfront on your own electric catamaran, I’ve stumbled upon one you may want to check out. It’s part of our weekly Awesome Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week column, so I don’t recommend actually trying to buy one, but it’s still fun to look at!

In fact, the luxury vibe of this electric boat makes it all the more appealing! We’ve seen some cheap e-boats from Alibaba before ( and I even bought one ), but this one looks pretty slick compared to most of the cheap-looking stuff.

That might explain why it’s priced at US $7,500, roughly 7.5x the price of my own five-seater Chinese electric boat that definitely didn’t come with a woodgrain interior like this one.

This model features nicely upholstered seats for the captain and his or her first mate, as well as a center console that allows the controls to be operated from either seat. That’s perfect for when the captain has too much to drink and needs to relinquish the reins for the night.

The 13 ft (3.8 meter) long boat floats on a pontoon-style setup and even has a nice awning canopy stretched over the seats.

I have to wonder if a solar panel array wouldn’t have been a good addition to that canopy though, helping to extend the range of the boat.

It’d be an easy addition on your own though, if anyone is crazy enough to actually try ordering one of these online (again, not recommended ).

We don’t have any data on how powerful the electric motor is, but by the looks of things, it’s just a little trolling motor like you’d find on a small electric kayak. The vendor claims a max speed of 8 km/h (5 mph), which is pretty peppy for a small catamaran like this.

The Alibaba page lacks any specs on the battery bank, so it’s hard to say how far you can go on a single charge. For most small electric boats, the range varies considerably based on speed, so you can likely go pretty far on this boat if you aren’t leaving a massive wake behind you.

They claim a max operating time of 6 hours, but that could vary significantly based on speed. We’ve seen some small electric outboard/battery setups that can operate from 1 hour to over a day, solely based on how hard you crank that tiller-mounted throttle.

While the renders of the product look nice, a render-only Alibaba page makes me worried about whether or not the product has ever been produced. In this case, they also show off some nice real-life shots of the electric boat in action.

After doing a little reverse image searching though, it appears the pictures were ripped off an Abu Dhabi resort’s website. I’m not sure if this is a chicken or egg situation, and whether the resort got the boats from Alibaba or whether Alibaba discovered a cool electric catamaran and made their own spurious posting about it afterward.

Either way, it’s nice to know that these fun-looking electric boats do exist somewhere, and that someone has been enjoying them!
