Tina Green: Lady of leisure or 'blonde hurricane' of a formidable partnership?

Sir Philip Green’s wife saw the world, married, had two children and a business before she was 40 – all just practice for the opulence of life in Monaco today

W hen Tina Green first met her future husband, Philip Green , at a party in 1985 she thought he was “dreadful”. At the time Christina Palos, as she was known, was running a London boutique called Harabels in Knightsbridge. When she explained to her future husband what she did, he told her that he had never heard of it. “I thought, what an arrogant man,” she said in a rare newspaper interview.

The next day, they met again at another party, hosted by a mutual friend. Tina says she noticed that Philip had a crooked bow tie and went up to him to straighten it. “It was the oddest thing,” she would later say. “I thought ‘I’m in trouble here’. I just fell in love with him that moment.” Five years later they married, forming a formidable partnership that would go on to dominate high streets in Britain in the early 21st century. In 2006 they became Lady and Sir, when Philip was knighted for services to retail.

Now however, their behaviour is under the spotlight like never before. The collapse of BHS, which the Greens controlled for 15 years, has raised awkward questions about their tax status, morals, and business acumen. Lady Green was this week forced to defend the family’s use of tax havens after MPs investigating the demise of BHS asked her to explain the “complex web” of companies behind their retail empire.

In a letter to the parliamentary committee behind the investigation, Lady Green outlined the details of 11 companies in which she or her wider family hold the controlling stake. The majority were incorporated in Jersey and the British Virgin Islands. On the reason why they are based there, she said: “My understanding is that jurisdictions such as Jersey and the British Virgin Islands are commonly preferred for their strong regulatory regimes and well respected regulators and the size and competence of their professional communities.”

However, these offshore locations had tax benefits too. The couple, along with their children Brandon and Chloe, moved to Monaco in 1998. Sir Philip told MPs last month that he left the UK because of a heart scare and “somebody suggested” that Monaco would be a good place to live. “I wanted to put my children in school somewhere, and I had two or three choices. We went there, had a look, met the people and decided to stay there,” he explained.

When Sir Philip came back to Britain in 2000 to buy BHS, the investments were made through his wife, who remained in Monaco. Today Lady Green remains the controlling party of Taveta, the family’s investment company. Taveta owns Arcadia, the retail business behind Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and a host of other high street brands.

In 2005, Lady Green collected a £1.2bn dividend from Arcadia, the biggest in British corporate history. No tax was paid on the dividend because of her Monaco base. The same goes for the family’s share of the estimated £586m that was paid out of BHS to the Greens and other investors in dividends, rental payments and interest on loans during their 15-year ownership of the retailer. In total, the Greens have amassed an estimated £3.2bn fortune and are ranked as the 29th richest people in the UK on the Sunday Times Rich List .

However, those close to Lady Green insist she is not just a nominal owner on behalf of her husband. Friends say she is shrewd, ambitious, and has an extremely sharp eye for design and business. Lady Green once said that Sir Philip “does nothing without consulting me”.

She co-founded Green & Mingarelli Design, which has done interior designs for private jets, luxury yachts, and apartments in London and Monaco. Lady Green also designed a homeware line for Lalique, the crystal glassmaker. She insists that she enjoys looking after the rest of the family, including her husband. “I loved being a homemaker, looking after Philip and the children, and to this day, I still love doing anything for him – cooking, putting away his clothes,” she told the Sunday Times in 2014. “Women are women, and men are men. Does looking after your man take feminism back to the 1950s? Bullshit.”

However, Lady Green also enjoys the glamorous side of life in Monaco. She was recently photographed inspecting the family’s new yacht – the £100m Lionheart – and is a fixture on the party and dinner scene in the principality. The birthday presents she had bought her husband include a £7m Gulfstream jet and a £250,000 gold Monopoly set.

Lady Green’s age is shrouded in secrecy, like much of her early life, and she is notoriously reluctant to reveal it. However, she is thought to be in her late 60s. She was born in England – despite a Wikipedia page claiming she was born in South Africa – but travelled the world while she was young, as her father worked in the wine trade. She met her first husband, Robert – or Bobby – Palos, a South African jazz musician, in Hong Kong when she was 17. They were married a year later.

The couple travelled around Japan and Australia, before moving to Johannesburg. Lady Green and Palos, who was 14 years older than her, had two children, Stasha and Brett, who is a director of Arcadia. They opened a clothes shop in South Africa and expanded the business abroad. She credits the growth of the business as one of the reasons why the couple grew apart, saying that he “wasn’t driven in the same way I was”. The couple divorced after 20 years together.

Sir Philip and Lady Green rarely talk about their private life or their own relationship. However, when they do, both have let it be known that they believe the UK has become jealous of wealth. Lady Green says there is only one secret to their success – hard work.

Stasha, her daughter, describes her as a hurricane. “Most of the people who judge mum don’t know her,” she told the Sunday Times in 2014 in the same interview as Lady Green. “She created her own success and built her own dreams. She’s a blonde hurricane, and I’m so lucky to have this tough independent little lady as my mum.”

Surrounded by plush cushions, gleaming sofas and green plants, Sir Philip Green takes in the view from his family's new £100million superyacht.

The billionaire was pictured relaxing on the 300ft vessel, dubbed Lionheart, in Malta, hundreds of miles away from the MPs investigating BHS's collapse.

Dressed in a grey, V-neck t-shirt, he was joined on the deck by his spouse, Tina - nicknamed 'Lady Greed' by critics - who wore a colourful bikini top and sunglasses.

Earlier, Lady Green had been seen walking aboard the yacht in the beaming sunshine, after flying to the Mediterranean to receive delivery of it.

Then, she had been pictured strolling onto the enormous vessel with a panting white dog under her arm, leaving her bags on the shore behind her.

It is believed that Sir Philip later joined her aboard Lionheart.

The couple's daughter, 24-year-old ex-Made In Chelsea star Chloe, was also seen relaxing on-board the yacht, dressed in a pretty, red outfit.

In addition to its glamorous decking area, Lionheart features three lifts, a helipad, hot tubs, a swimming pool and luxury cabins for 12 guests.

It is undoubtedly the crown jewel of the Green family collection of expensive playthings, which already includes two other superyachts and two private jets.

Lady Green, who is the sole owner of Lionheart, runs her own business in Monaco advising oligarchs on interior design.

Her expensive tastes are likely to be reflected in every detail on the yacht, where the family will entertain friends such as supermodel Kate Moss and TV mogul Simon Cowell.

The new images come as Sir Philip Green is upping his efforts to assist MPs in their investigation into the collapse of BHS.

The politicians are preparing to publish a damning report into the retailer's demise in the coming weeks.

The Topshop tycoon has written an extensive letter to the business and pensions committees defending his ownership of the department store chain, with their findings due to be published on July 24.

In it, Sir Philip outlines more than £400 million of investment into BHS and claims that he pushed for a "sustainable solution" for the firm's troubled pension scheme.

He also says that he offered to help bankroll to the tune of £5 million a rescue bid for BHS from fellow billionaire and Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley.

"The purchase would include buying all of the stock, for which Mr Ashley offered to pay £10 million," he said.

"This amount was not acceptable to the administrators. It appeared that £15 million to close the deal would work and I therefore offered the additional £5 million to help the business be sold as a going concern."

However, Work and Pensions Committee chairman Frank Field said: "Sir Philip is aware we are writing our report and is suddenly volunteering all manner of last-minute assistance."

A Westminster insider also told the Press Association: "The committee gets the feeling that Sir Philip, having tried to exert his control over the process, is now understanding that the report will be damning and is attempting to vindicate himself by sending over large swathes of documents."

Sir Philip's reputation has taken a battering since BHS collapsed in April, leaving behind a £571 million pension deficit and putting 11,000 jobs at risk.

The billionaire, who owned the retailer for 15 years until 2015, has come under fire for taking £400 million in dividends from the company and then selling it to former bankrupt Dominic Chappell for £1.

In response, Sir Philip said: "Frank Field never ceases to surprise me. I was merely responding to the questions in a letter that he signed."

The new pictures also come as the names of the first 20 BHS stores set to close on Saturday have been revealed - including shops in Peterborough and Southport.

Around 580 staff will be affected by the closures, although administrators say they will try to find temporary work for them in other BHS branches nearby.

However, the future looks bleak for those remaining 143 stores as last ditch efforts are made to find a buyer.

The 20 branches are due to shut next Saturday because stock levels have fallen so low.

Green Eyed Lady is a 1981 Albin 43, which has been a trunk-cabin trawler whose style has been popular for many years. With a two stateroom, two head layout, she is roomy enough for comfortable cruising of two couples. She has a teak interior, and is built on a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull, and has hard aft chines and a long prop-protecting keel. Her current owner has been a full-time live-aboard cruiser since purchasing her in 2009. He has single-handed her up and down the Atlantic Coast.

An extensive refit and update was completed in 2002/2003 which included: the removal of teak decks and the deck was faired and filled with West System; removal and reset of all windows; replaced flybridge hardtop; painting the entire vessel with Matterhorn White AwlGrip; installation of a SK 500 gpd watermaker; new 8kw generator; Cetol applied to all hand rails; new sanitary hoses for both heads; 4 new aluminum with epoxy coating fuel tanks; new aluminum with epoxy coating water tank; all through hulls rebuilt or replaced; new cutlass bearing; new rudder shaft packing; new engine oil coolers and water pumps; new transmission on starboard engine.

Green Eyed Lady is offered "as is" since there are some items which require attention; the vessel is priced accordingly. 1) Generator: runs, but needs the electrical end repaired; 2) Watermaker: requires service; 3) AC: the forward unit needs a new control panel; 4) Radar: needs a new terminal (cannot confirm functioning); 5) Battery cradle support needs repair; 6) Fuel Tank: rear auxiliary tank hose leaks; 7) Navigational and operating instruments: some need repair/replacement. The seller has priced the vessel below the estimated value from a recent insurance survey to account for the items which need repair or replacement.

Green Bay led by trio of junior guards

Green Bay has three junior guards averaging double figures, and they can all be playmakers.

She swept aboard last Monday — the queen of a brand new £100 million superyacht, with a fluffy white dog in her arms and a team of acolytes in her wake.

Yes, Lionheart, billionaire Sir Philip Green's amazing floating palace, has finally been delivered to him and his wife Tina in Malta.

But as the BHS scandal rumbles on, this usually highly visible tycoon is nowhere to be seen. He is, however, expected to join Tina at some point over the next fortnight, and then spend the next few months on the yacht.

So who carried Tina's bags aboard? What are the secrets of its oh-so-fabulous interior? And who else will be joining the Greens on the high seas this summer?

SUAVE BEST FRIEND AND BUSINESS PARTNER

Handsome and suave, Tina's very best friend is Pietro Mingarelli. He is the partner in her Monaco-based yacht and private jet interior design company, Green and Mingarelli, which they set up four years ago.

The Italian architect, who is married and in his 50s, followed just a few paces behind her up the gangplank on Monday, dressed in blue and carrying a large briefcase.

They met 13 years ago while Tina was designing the interior for a 37-metre yacht. She has said they 'clicked immediately', and have worked together ever since. Projects have included designing furniture for Lalique, the ultra-expensive French glassmaker, and a string of luxury residences.

His sense of style certainly fits in with Lady Green's very expensive tastes. The interior of the yacht is nothing short of sumptuous.

Mingarelli is known for his attention to detail and his insistence on everything being immaculate. He had a gold statue of Buddha hand-crafted in Jaipur and then flown to the yacht. No expense is ever spared.

Other essentials he helped Tina design include a helicopter landing pad, gym, spa, jacuzzi, swimming pool, beauty salon and exterior bar.

That's not to say that it's cheap: a single armchair from her collection — cream fabric on a high gloss ebony wood veneer — costs £16,000. And white cushions with a black trim? Up to £3,500 each.

That said, the partnership is highly thought of in the yacht design world. She has no plans to retire, but is ambitious to expand her business. Her motto, apparently, is: 'There will always be rich people.'

She and Mingarelli fly around the world to check on the design and quality of all of the elements, personally picking marble from Italy for the bathrooms and countertops and so on.

They leave nothing to chance. It was reported that last week Mingarelli apparently had the yacht stewardesses going in to every guest cabin and having a shower — to test temperature controls and the water pressure.

THE PAMPERED POOCHES …

Clutched tight in Lady Green's right arm is one of the loves of her life: her dog.

It is thought to be a Coton de Tulear — a rare toy dog (puppies go for up to £2,000) of the same sort owned by Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda and Catherine Zeta-Jones. They're a happy, playful and inquisitive breed, though trainers say they can be hard to housetrain — a pressing issue given that expensive interior.

The other dog — a greying chihuahua carried by a housekeeper — belongs to Philip Green. For Philip Green's 63rd birthday in March last year, Lady Tina commissioned a cake showing him in bed cuddling up to the dog, with the message 'His greatest love, Louie'.

Lionheart has a total of 40 crew, who were brought to the yacht in a fleet of silver Mercedes people carriers. They include the stewards and stewardesses, who look after everything inside the boat, to deckhands, first mate, bosun and engineers.

The captain oversees it all, with the chiefs of each section reporting back to him. Keeping a yacht the size of Lionheart running smoothly is like a very well oiled military operation.

The crew on Green's previous boat had a monochromatic uniform to fit Tina's tastes, but now the uniform is cream.

While in Malta, every single window is cleaned daily by a team of window cleaners, and the deck is polished with a microfibre broom twice a day.

The crew are all on tax-free wages starting at £2,500 per month, with board and food included for deckhands. This rises to more like £6,500 per month for people like the chef and the chief engineer. The captain gets even more.

A source indicates that the Greens pay well. 'They believe in looking after the staff who are around them,' he said, 'as that will keep them loyal and working to Tina's high standards.

'She is seen as lovely to work for. While she has high expectations, she will also treat them. She gives away her designer cast-offs and takes them all out for expensive lunches.'

Those who witnessed Sir Philip's distinctly belligerent performance at the House of Commons select committee last month will not be surprised to learn that he is by reputation rather less lovely to work for than Tina.

The source says: 'The way he acted at the BHS hearing was him on his best behaviour. He is notorious for his shouting and swearing. For example, when he had a party for his birthday in the Caribbean, they had ordered an entire lock-up garage full of flowers for the dinner on the boat. Philip didn't like them, and new ones had to be flown in from Holland.'

SUPERFOODS AND ROSE CHAMPAGNE

THE Greens enjoy the attentions of a personal chef in Monaco, who apparently is a whizz in raw food and superfoods — a fact which is not perhaps evident in Sir Philip's plutocratic waistline.

The chef has joined Tina and will be on the yacht all summer, along with a second chef.

Laurent Perrier rosé champagne (at £60 a bottle) is served on board. Apparently, Sir Philip frowns on anyone who asks for champagne at breakfast. They are told that the yacht is waiting for a new delivery and they must wait until lunch.

Lady Tina also has a dog walker — a trained animal behaviourist — who is on board for the rest of the summer. When they are at sea, the dog walker takes the pooches for a daily turn around the deck, and is on poop scooping duty.

A personal hairdresser is also in situ in the boat's beauty salon. There is also a masseur on board, who in addition can do anything from facials to manicures.

KEEPING UP WITH SUPERMODEL PALS

Just behind Mingarelli is Tina's personal trainer. At 67, Tina is very much interested in health and wellness. While in Monaco, she does regular juice fasts and has a selection of green juices (at around £6 for 250ml) delivered to her penthouse by local company the Organic Detox Bar, which she drinks on the go.

Her personal trainer also specialises in yoga, pilates, meditation and mindfulness, and is with her in Malta at the moment. Presumably, if you are hanging out with supermodels half your age all summer, it pays to keep yourself in tip top shape.

REFIT FOR THE BABY BOAT

The little Lioncub — a smaller boat which takes passengers to and from the yacht when it is moored — has had a fancy new paint-job.

Previously it was leopard print, but that wasn’t deemed swish enough for the new boat.

Now it has been painted black, with a huge silver lion’s head. If possible, it is even more eye-catching — and vulgar — than ever before.

THE LADY LOVES HER DIAMONDS

With her deep tan, long blonde hair and plenty of jewellery, Lady Tina has a very Cote D'Azur sense of style. She wears huge diamond earrings, and a ring with a diamond the size of a Fox's Glacier Mint.

Many of her clothes come from the Monaco branch of Isabell Kristensen Couture. Danish-born Isabell favours designs of the frothy and colourful variety: her best known gown is Sheryl Gascoigne's wedding dress, a confection consisting of 200 metres of peach tulle, topped with 30,000 pearl and glass beads.

Tina was front row at Isabell's Monaco summer fashion show last month, sitting alongside her close friend Prince Albert.

She also favours Melissa Odabash swimwear and cover-ups. Odabash, an American fashion designer and former model, has been credited with creating the 'Ferraris of swimwear', and is particularly adored by women of a certain age thanks to her flattering cuts.

EXQUISITE BLOOMS THAT ARE FLOWN IN

Both the Greens are wild about blooms. For dinner parties they have exquisite floral arrangements that hang from the ceiling of whichever part of the yacht they have decided to eat in, and can take up to ten hours to arrange.

Blooms are flown in from Azur Flowers in Cagnes-Sur-Mer, run by blonde British florist Natasha Russell. Her idea for the brand came from her time working on yachts, where one of her duties included ordering and arranging flowers.

In 2014, she enrolled in a course at London's premier florist McQueen's, a world leader in floral design favoured by five-star hotels and fashion labels. Russell's signature style is vintage with a modern twist, and based around the English rose.

AT LAST — TIME TO SHOW IT OFF

Pals including Kate Moss and her boyfriend Nico von Bismarck are expected on board this summer. Other likely guests include Richard Caring, the West End restaurants and clubs tycoon, and Simon Cowell.

Apparently, even though they hid the boat away for a long time, Tina is incredibly proud of their new yacht and sees it as the result of four years of hard work.

It's the jewel in her interior design crown and she hopes it will bring in all kinds of new business from all over the world.

Sources say it is to ultimately be their retirement home, and they want to show it off to everyone.

There was to have been a party during the Monaco Grand Prix this spring, but it had to be cancelled because of the fallout from the BHS scandal.

The couple's daughter, 25-year-old Chloe Green, will be among those trying out the new yacht. She and her elder brother Brandon have their own boat, which is currently in Ibiza, but they also stay with their parents on Lionheart, especially over the summer.

Chloe, who has appeared on the reality TV show Made In Chelsea, has designed numerous ranges of shoes for Topshop. She recently shared some pictures of herself with Real Madrid and Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, including an autographed mobile phone case inscribed: 'To my love Chloe.'

‘She Asked Me If I Would Marry…I Says ‘Nah’’: Al Green Recounts Married Ex-Girlfriend Throwing Hot Pot of Grits Down His Back Before Shooting Herself Over Declined Marriage Proposal In Resurfaced Interview

One of the most famous legends in soul music history revolves around singer Al Green, an obsessed lover and a pot of grits. While this tale has been incorporated into countless stand-up comedians’ routines and has become a popular cultural reference for women seeking revenge on their cheating partners (à la Lorena Bobbitt and her infamous carving knife incident ), the true story behind the incident remains relatively unknown.

In the mid-’70s, Green was one of the most successful artists in the world. Between 1971 and 1974, he sold over 20 million albums and had five consecutive hit songs: “Tired of Being Alone,” “Call Me,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “You Ought to Be With Me,” and “I’m Still in Love With You.” He was also an undeniable sex symbol, with groupies flocking to him in every state.

Recently, a video resurfaced from the 1984 documentary “The Gospel According to Al Green” featuring the “Love and Happiness” singer detailing what happened that day at his Memphis home in 1974.

According to the singer, he was seeing a 29-year-old woman by the name of Mary Woodson, who confessed that she was in love with him. Unbeknownst to Green, when he met Woodson, she had just left her husband and three children behind in New Jersey to attend his concerts in New York.

After returning to his Memphis home from a show in San Francisco, Woodson unexpectedly appeared to confront the star about her feelings. Unfortunately, Green didn’t quite feel the same for her, he explained. When he admitted he liked Woodson and was comfortable with their casual situation, her tone seemingly switched from love to obsession.

“She says, ‘Well, I love you, and I don’t want to go on without you,’” Green recalled. She told him that she didn’t want “to be involved in anything else” other than a relationship with the star.

Green responded, “Well, please don’t take that ‘do or die’ attitude about things,” before adding, “Man, you know there’s life to live.”

Green admits that he did not take her desperation seriously and kept stressing how they were both “free” to do as they pleased. But Woodson didn’t see it that way. She wanted to be married to him despite already being married with a family in New Jersey.

“She asked me if I would marry [her]. I says, ‘Well, nah. I don’t think I’m ready to get married.’ This is 1974. I mean, I’ve just been in this [the music industry] two or three years, you know,” Green recalls.

According to the soul singer, he went upstairs in his house and closed the door to rest. After a while, he got back up, went downstairs, and saw Woodson boiling water. Despite inquiring as to why Woodson was boiling the water, she brushed him off.

Green then went into his bathroom to bathe. While attempting to exit the tub, Woodson barged in and poured the pot of scalding-hot grits down his back.

“I had on this little thin robe. … I’m in total pain and shock,” said Green.

The 11-time Grammy winner said that Woodson added the grits to the boiling water to make it stick and “slime” up.

“All of a sudden, I’m full of it. This is so much pain, and I reach back, and I got two fingers full of skin. I went over, after being full of grits, jumped in the shower because I’m ached all over, and I called this girl from next door over to help me because I’m in total, you know, and man, I’ve got these big boils on my skin. And I am in total pain. I can’t believe the pain,” he explained.

Soon after dousing the singer in hot grits, Woodson retreated to a bedroom and shot herself with Green’s .38 handgun.

He added, “All of a sudden, you hear (he makes a sound of shooting). Then that was the end of that. You hear something hit the floor … boom!”

The then-27-year-old, still in pain from being burned, said he asked what the noise was and was then told that that was gunshots and that his girlfriend was dead. After the shooting, he instructed someone to call the police.

“It looks like suicide,” said Inspector Dan Jones to the New York Times in 1974. Jones also revealed that a three‐page suicide note written on motel stationery was found in Woodson’s purse. Green suffered second-degree burns on his back, arms, and stomach and required skin grafts.

The publication tells a slightly different story than Green did.

Police Capt. William Maley reported that the Arkansas native told the police that he had returned to his home around 4 a.m. after recording a soundtrack for a new film. He was accompanied by another woman, Carlotta Beth Williams from Denver, aged 21.

Green said shortly after getting in, he went upstairs to take a bath and was just getting out of the tub when Woodson burst in, threw a pan of “hot boiling grits” on him, and then ran out of the room and shot herself with the firearm.

Shortly after the incident, Green would later renounce his secular career and dedicate himself to spreading the gospel.

According to Davin Seay, who collaborated with Green on his 2000 autobiography, “Take Me To The River,” the singer doesn’t immediately connect his embracing of the faith to the traumatic events of Oct. 18, 1974.

“He likes to distance the facts of his [religious] conversion from the terrible events of that night,” says Seay, “but I think the Woodson incident kind of crystallized his need to move on, to sort of shut down one part of his life and open up another.”

Lady Vols basketball to face Green Bay to open March Madness in 2024 NCAA Tournament

Lady Vols basketball was selected as a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, which was higher than any bracket projections predicted.

The Lady Vols (19-12) will face No. 11 seed Green Bay (27-6) on Saturday (noon ET, ESPN) in the first round in Raleigh, North Carolina. A win would match Tennessee with No. 3 seed NC State (27-6) or No. 14 seed Chattanooga (28-4) in the second round March 25. This is the first time in coach Kellie Harper's tenure that Tennessee has not been a top-16 seed.

The draw sets up a potential matchup with the Wolfpack, which Harper coached from 2009-13. NC State is also coached by Wes Moore, whose staff Harper coached on as an assistant at Chattanooga from 2001-04.

The Lady Vols are in the Portland regional, which has Texas (30-4) as the No. 1 seed. For the second year, the women's tournament has only two regional sites instead of four, with the other regional in Albany.

The selection committee rewarded Harper's tough scheduling yet again. The Lady Vols' nonconference slate ranked No. 11 in strength of schedule, and they finished No. 1 in overall strength of schedule after playing No. 1 South Carolina three times. Tennessee faced all but one of its ranked nonconference opponents without star forward Rickea Jackson due to a lower leg injury. The Lady Vols' lone ranked win was against No. 20 Oklahoma, which went on to win the Big 12 regular-season title.

The Lady Vols beat the Sooners without Jackson, though they went 4-4 without her. Seven of their losses were to teams in the top 15 of the NCAA NET rankings, and they went 5-12 against NET top-50 teams.

Tennessee was ranked No. 12 going into the season, but fell from the rankings after the skid in nonconference play. The Lady Vols fell out of bracket projections and then were on the bubble in the first half of conference play. The Lady Vols are the only program in history to have never missed an NCAA Tournament. After the pandemic canceled the 2020 NCAA Tournament, Tennessee was a top-16 seed the next three seasons under Harper.

The Lady Vols were a No. 4 seed the last two seasons, which gave them hosting privileges. They made back-to-back trips to the Sweet 16 the last two seasons for the first time since since 2015 and 2016. Tennessee's highest seeding under Harper was her first NCAA Tournament at her alma mater in 2021. The Lady Vols were a No. 3 seed, but got upset in the second round by No. 6 seed Michigan.

Tennessee has won eight NCAA championships and made 18 trips to the Final Four. All of those happened under coach Pat Summitt, and the last time it did either was in 2008.

They're looking at a lot of different things and obviously, we have several positives in those categories."

On her reaction to being a 6-seed and playing Green Bay

Harper: "Usually pretty familiar with Green Bay. I've watched them quite a bit throughout the years. This year, however, had not seen them. I'm pretty familiar with their program. Always been kind of an admirer of their program. I think they play tough and they're efficient. When I was able to really dig in and dive into this particular year, there was no exception. They're very efficient. They're very intelligent. Gritty, tough, team you enjoy watching play."

On her going back to an area she is familiar with

Harper: "Honestly, hadn't been back to Raleigh a whole lot. Lived there for a few years. It'll be interesting to go back and just see everything. One of the things I'm kind of excited about is Tamari ( Key ) getting to be near home. She just lives a few minutes from that campus."

On watching her team be excited about the seeding

Harper: "I think they're just excited to play. At this point, obviously, there's a lot of lead-up into the tournament and what your seed is going to be, but at this point it's all about your matchups. It really is. They're excited. They get to see themselves on television and hear their names called. It's an exciting time of year. Really, you shouldn't ever take it for granted. I understand the expectations here but you really shouldn't take it for granted."

On playing NC State in a scrimmage before the season

Harper: "We did have a closed scrimmage with them. It was so long ago, teams are both completely different. Tamari was barely playing at that time. Jewel ( Spear ) did not participate due to an ankle injury during that time. So, we looked very different. Destinee Wells was playing a lot of minutes. We're a very different team than when we played them."

On having size on Green Bay

Harper: "I think when you look at a team like Green Bay, you look at advantages but you look at disadvantages, as well. I think for us, we have to try to maximize maybe where we have opportunities but then try to take care of areas that are maybe in their favor. Because they can spread you out. They do a great job. Their offensive efficiencies is one of the best in the country. I don't want to undersell that because they're not playing South Carolina every night but they're still doing it. And they're doing it as good as anyone in the country."

On having a closer regional site

Harper: "I don't know where the advantage, disadvantage is in terms of travel. We'll be on a bus so it'll be a long bus ride for us. Some teams are very accustomed to that, used to that. But you're not changing your timezones so that's probably a little bit more of an advantage."

More than 350 companies from Great Britain , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , New Zealand , United Arab Emirates , Poland , Slovenia , USA , Sierra Leone, Turkey , Ukraine , Finland , France , Croatia , Montenegro and, of course, Russia (17 regions) participated in the show. The scale of the project confirms confident positions of its positive development.

Moscow Boat Show 2013

Arcady Zlotnikov, Deputy Director General ZAO CROCUS INTERNATIONAL, was traditionally the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show 2013 and presented high ranking guests of the ceremony.

Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels (SISV) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, congratulated everybody with the opening of the show, noted it high status, significance and perfect prospects of development.

Vladimir Silkin, President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), joined the previous speaker and added that the show had become the major event in the Russian world of boats and yachts.

Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show, spoke about organizer’s work and expressed her gratitude to all participants of the show.

All speakers noted dynamic development of the branch which leads to the intensive growth of the exhibition.

Having wished to exhibitors and visitors productive work and conclusion of new contracts, guests of honor of the Moscow Boat Show 2013 cut red ribbon and invited everybody to the exposition.

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
