in order to offer guests and members uninterrupted race views, the fully glazed elevations can be opened up. external observation decks are shaded by retractable fabric screens, supported by masts and booms that continue the nautical theme. built on reclaimed land, the club provides for a range of craft – from sailing boats to 25-60 meter superyachts.

shops and public spaces at ground level assert the project as a community destination, while a landscaped rooftop park is bound on one side by the club’s restaurant terrace. the building is powered by renewable energy, with photovoltaic cells, solar thermal panels and sea water cooling systems designed to take advantage of the waterside location.

‘the building is a little like a city in microcosm, with schools, parks, offices, restaurants, a network of interior circulation ‘streets’ and a hierarchy of public and private, social and functional spaces. it is a continuation of monaco’s dense urban fabric, as well as the yacht club’s traditions and will be an important part of civic life. every child in monaco learns sailing at some stage during their education and those lessons will be in the new building – as a result, the yacht club will become even more rooted, in a public sense, in the principality and part of its cultural and urban fabric’ , explained lord foster.

‘with all of our projects, our approach to sustainability is to maximize the natural advantages of the local climate, while mitigating its extremes. we have also used locally sourced or recycled materials. our starting point for the yacht club was extensive analysis of the climate and the way that the different spaces are used. photovoltaic cells and solar thermal panels convert monaco’s sunshine to energy, while the sea water is used for cooling and the facades can open completely to allow natural ventilation. to provide shade in the summer, there are sail-like canopies – a reference to the nautical traditions that monaco is famous for’ , furthered nigel dancey, senior partner at foster + partners.

Grand opening of new building for the Yacht Club de Monaco

Design: Foster + Partners

Opening celebrations were held on Friday at the Yacht Club de Monaco , led by HSH Prince Albert II and attended by Lord Foster and the club’s members. The new building forms the centrepiece of the remodelled harbour – its impressive new social and sporting facilities preserve the club’s heritage and traditions, while reinforcing Monaco as the leading international centre for yachting excellence and further developing the Principality’s thriving yacht industry.

Yacht Club De Monaco

Designed in response to the local climate, the new clubhouse sets high standards for sustainable design – the building is powered by renewable energy and incorporates photovoltaic cells, solar thermal panels and sea water cooling systems to take advantage of the sun and waterfront site. The architecture is a celebration of sailing – its large, deck-like terraces step up along the harbour to offer unrivalled views out to races at sea, as well as views inland over the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit.

Yacht Club De Monaco

The club is entered via a glazed courtyard that frames views out over the harbour to the palace. The first floor, called deck two, features a club room, bar restaurant and swimming pool and is exclusive to YCM members. Above this courtyard is a double-height function space, executive offices and a series of ‘cabins’ for visiting guests. The uppermost floors accommodate a range of event spaces, and the quality in its detailing reflects the high levels of service for which the club is renowned. The fully glazed harbour elevations can be opened up to provide uninterrupted views, while the open air observation decks and cascading terraces are shaded by retractable fabric screens, supported by masts and booms to evoke the image of a ship moored in the harbour.

Yacht Club De Monaco

The yacht club is built on reclaimed land and extends the harbour to the east – the new YCM Marina can accommodate a range of craft, including sailing boats, and has 26 berths for 25-60 metre superyachts. Shops and public spaces animate the harbour level, reinforcing the club’s role as a destination for the whole community, as well as accommodating the Principality’s historic rowing club and the YCM’s sailing school – sliding doors encourage activities to spread out on to the quayside. Designed largely for children, the school provides classrooms, workshops and lofts for small boats.

Yacht Club De Monaco

Inland, there is a landscaped park on the roof of the sailing school and rowing club. Bounded on one side by the club’s restaurant terrace and leading on the other side to a new space for cultural activities, it complements the sequence of green spaces in this densely populated city and forms a new link in the pedestrian route between the quayside and Casino Square.

Yacht Club De Monaco

Lord Foster: “The building is a little like a city in microcosm, with schools, parks, offices, restaurants, a network of interior circulation ‘streets’ and a hierarchy of public and private, social and functional spaces. It is a continuation of Monaco’s dense urban fabric, as well as the Yacht Club’s traditions and will be an important part of civic life. Every child in Monaco learns sailing at some stage during their education and those lessons will be in the new building – as a result, the Yacht Club will become even more rooted, in a public sense, in the Principality and part of its cultural and urban fabric.”

By Editorial Team   26 June 2014

On the 20th June the striking new building for the world-renowned Yacht Club de Monaco was officially opened in befitting grand style by HSH Prince Albert II.

Foster, the Yacht Club in Monte Carlo

  • 31 December 2014

Foster, the Yacht Club in Monte Carlo

The clubhouse designed by norman foster uses renewable energies and recycled materials and is intended to be a focal point of social life in monaco.

Lord Norman Foster has a passion for the sea in his DNA. A connection that has on several occasions seen him create splendid works of architecture facing onto bodies of water and integrated perfectly into everything around them. When not actually floating, like Ocean Emerald, the 41-metre yacht built by the Rodriquez shipyard (presented in 2006 and intended for the charter market, of which two other models have already been launched) and the fast and agile 21-metre Alen motorboat. And all with a low environmental impact. Just like one of his most recent realizations on land: the new seat of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Designed to take advantage of the mild and temperate climate of the Riviera, the new clubhouse takes a sustainable approach that makes use of renewable energies. “We have […] used locally sourced or recycled materials,” confirms Nigel Dancey, senior partner at Foster + Partners, carrying out “extensive analysis of the climate and the way that the different spaces are used. Photovoltaic cells and solar thermal panels convert Monaco’s sunshine to energy, while sea water is used for cooling and the façades can open completely to allow natural ventilation.” Intended to be a focal point in the life of the principality, its presence reinvigorates Monaco’s status not just as a place of flamboyant social life, but also as an international yachting centre. The building stands on the eastern quay of Port Hercule and fits into the context in an original way.

Its form is reminiscent of a ship, whose decks are terraces which face in part onto the sea, where they can be used by members to watch regattas, and in part onto the hill, where they form a stand overlooking the Formula 1 circuit. “The building is a little like a city in microcosm,” comments Lord Foster, “with schools, parks, offices, restaurants, a network of interior circulation ‘streets’ and a hierarchy of public and private, social and functional spaces. It is a continuation of Monaco’s dense urban fabric, as well as the yacht club’s traditions and will be an important part of civic life.”

A large glazed courtyard, with ample views of the outside, leads to the entrance of the yacht club. The first floor (called Deck 2) has a club room, bar, restaurant and swimming pool and is for the exclusive use of club members (all 1,300 of them, from 66 different countries). The floor above is a functional double-height space with executive offices and a series of cabins for visiting guests. On the upper floors there are various event spaces with a quality of detail and refinement that reflect the high level of the services on offer. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide an incomparable view of the world outside, while the “observation decks” (the open terraces) are shaded by retractable fabric screens, supported by masts and booms that evoke the rigging of a sailboat. The interior decoration, in a refined and contemporary style, is the work of the French designer Jacques Grange, who has chosen pieces from the Fendi House Contemporary collection. The lounge, the reception and the living areas are furnished with Soho and Metropolitan sofas, Serengeti tables, Blixen chairs and Columbus coffee tables. The pastel shades are pale and recall sand and ivory, utilized in alternation with the natural colour of leather. The furnitureselected for the terraces comes from the Fendi Outdoor Collection.

Norman foster designs monaco's new yacht club.

  • British architects Norman Foster are behind glamorous new yacht club on Monaco harbor
  • The new building is intended to celebrate Monaco's coastline and nautical heritage
  • Solar thermal panels as well as photovoltaics will augment the conventional energy supply

(CNN) -- Monaco is famed for its glamorous Grand Prix, exclusive Casino's and mega-wealthy occupants.

Now, the elite province is going to have an exclusive yacht club designed by one of the world's greatest living architects: Norman Foster.

Foster is famed for buildings like London's famous skyscraper, the "Gherkin" and the restored Reichstag in Berlin, which houses the German parliament.

The new building is intended to celebrate Monaco's distinctive coastline and nautical heritage.

It will have a series of deck-styled viewing balconies that step up along the harbor providing views of yacht races and the course of the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit.

Situated on reclaimed land, the development will extend the city's existing marina eastwards and accommodate all sorts of craft, from small children's sailing boats to 100-meter superyachts.

Energy supplies will be augmented by solar thermal panels as well as photovoltaics, while all the interior spaces will be air-conditioned using a low-energy, sea-cooled refrigeration system, the designers said.

Glamour-seeking yacht enthusiasts will have to wait just a little bit longer, though, "Yacht Club de Monaco" is not expected to open until the summer of 2012.

Yacht Club de Monaco: Flagship events in 2024!

YCM-2024

After commemorating 70 years of the Monaco Yacht Club last year, the celebrations will continue in 2024 with the 10th anniversary of the new Club House, designed by Lord Foster.

The calendar’s schedule is in keeping with the ambition of the “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting” initiative,  launched by the Yacht Club to promote the Principality as a centre of excellence in the field.

14th Monaco Optimist Team Race (10-14 January)

monaco yacht club foster

Starting on 10 January, the international elite of Optimist team-racing will be heading to Monaco. 17 nations (United States, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Monaco among them) will be represented by 72 sailors aged under 14.

Organised in match race format, the competition will consist of duels between teams of four. A total of 153 rounds are scheduled to be fought out in Monegasque waters.

16th Economic Symposium (8 February)

The 16th edition of this annual industry event will focus on the French Riviera’s significant economic might in the yachting industry.

Organised in the form of a dinner-debate, the aim of the La Belle Classe Superyachts symposium, which brings together yacht owners and professionals by invitation, is to analyse the yachting sector, explore its developments and gain a better understanding of its challenges and issues.

Primo Cup-Trophée UBS (7-10 March)

The best international J/70 crews will meet again for the continuation of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, Act 3 (8-11 February). Over the last eleven years, this series of monthly regattas has become an unmissable fixture on the winter calendar.

Currently led by the Monegasque crew of Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio’s G-Spot, the series promises to be hotly contested. To round off the winter season, the J/70s will meet one last time in Act 4 (7-10 March).

USA win 12th Monaco Optimist Team Race

The weekend will coincide with the 40th Primo Cup-Trophée UBS, which will bring together the Smeralda 888s, the Longtze Premiers, the RS 21s, the Cape 31s — not forgetting the Surprises.

March will conclude on an equally sporting note with the second Women Leading and Sailing Trophy (15-17 March), an all-female J/70 event organised in collaboration with the Monegasque and French Sailing Federations.

Monaco Ocean Week (18-22 March)

During Monaco Ocean Week, organised by the Prince Albert II Foundation along with the Monaco Oceanographic Institute and the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, the Yacht Club has been entrusted with the yachting aspect of the week, which is dedicated to protecting the oceans.

On Thursday 21 March, the Y.C.M. will be hosting a series of three events, starting with the 13th Environmental Symposium. Following on from the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous, organised in September by M3 (Monaco Marina Management), the Y.C.M. will be hosting the 2nd Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous on 21 and 22 March.

Monaco Ocean Week: how can we save our underwater world?

This networking event aims to make the yachting industry more ethical by encouraging exchanges of ideas and introducing innovations for a more sustainable industry. The event will conclude with the presentation of the Smart Innovative Yacht Awards.

Thursday 21 March will conclude with the presentation of the 4th YCM Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts. Organised under the presidency of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, this ceremony has been rewarding yacht owners who have distinguished themselves by their commitment to preserving the marine environment, both in the design of their yachts and in their sailing, since 2018.

Superyacht Chef Competition (4 April)

For five years now, superyacht chefs have been meeting at the Y.C.M. to test their skills in the Superyacht Chef Competition, a unique gastronomic contest organised by the Club in collaboration with Bluewater.

The idea is simple: to bring together 9 chefs who work at sea and watch them work their magic in cooking areas inspired by the limited confines of the kitchens on some yachts. “As part of La Belle Classe Academy, the Y.C.M.’s training centre, this event attracts professionals and the general public alike, providing a unique perspective on the different professions in yachting,” says Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Y.C.M.

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (1-6 July)

For over 10 years, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, a hub for new technologies and alternative energies, has been bringing together young engineers from schools and universities across the world, putting them in touch with key figures in the yachting industry.

In 2023, 46 teams representing 31 universities and 25 nations demonstrated the effectiveness of their shared, open source solutions. This year, SBM Offshore – also an event partner, for the fifth year in a row – will be installing a floating pontoon that will start producing green hydrogen from January on, to supply the participating teams ahead of the event.

Monaco Yacht Club: An Exclusive Oasis For Marine Lovers

10 stories about the districts of Monaco

Looking down on the Yacht Club from Monaco’s exclusive seawater Spa, “ Thermes Marins ”, the new club-house really is a magnificent icon of multi-decked architecture – inaugurated in 2014 and designed by internationally renowned architect Lord Norman Foster.

Only in the Principality’s marina could you confuse this giant structure for the yachts around it that it resembles – a yacht mirage with a gorgeous deck with luxurious swimming pool and terraces for dancing. Splendid enough for meetings of the most discerning yacht enthusiasts, including the glitterati and “Three Comma” billionaires that frequent it.

Yachts Beyond the Reach of Mere Mortals

Some of the largest and most expensive yachts in the world dock here to take in the city’s pleasures, particularly during the iconic Monaco Yacht Show. You can wander around marvelling at all of the gadgets designers can inlay on these boats like the 348-foot-long AMADEA one of the largest and most distinctive superyachts in the world with its six distinctive guest decks. Or perhaps gaze at the 365-foot-long TIS, one of the largest and most regal yachts to be launched this year.

These superyachts, like the Yacht Club itself are like private islands and wouldn’t look out of place in a James Bond movie. If billionaires Bernard Arnault or Larry Page or Larry Ellison come calling, Monaco Yacht Club sets the stage perfectly.

Home of the Grimaldi Dynasty

For over 600 years from the 12th century onwards, the Grimaldi stronghold at Port Hercule, including where the Yacht Club now preens itself, was one of the prized naval assets on the Mediterranean. Its strategic location served more than once to change the course of history.

It was around the time of the reign of Charles III of Monaco that the Principality’s reputation as an international haven of luxury and wealth took off. And Charles III had the vision to encourage the development of Monaco as a magnet for international regattas of renown to which the world flocked.

Historic Regatta Heaven

The first of these regattas were held in the bay of Monaco in 1862, so successful that in 1888 the “Société des Régates” was established by Prince Charles III and his son Prince Albert I , affectionately known as the “Oceanographer Prince”.

Almost a century of famous regattas preceded the founding in 1953 by Prince Rainier and presided over by Prince Albert II since 1984, the Yacht Club de Monaco. The Club brings together more than 2000 members from 66 nationalities. Many of the world’s most prestigious private yachts fly the Yacht Club de Monaco’s burgee, testimony to its unique position in the International yachting world.

Prince Albert’s Presidency

In April 1984, with Prince Albert’s Presidency, he developed new international events such as the Primo Cup, the biggest gathering of monotype yachts in the Mediterranean Sea. Prince Albert also put emphasis on classic Yachting with the organization from 1994 of the Monaco Classic Week for vintage and classic yachts, the Prada Challenge for Classic Yachts.

Notably, it was the first visit of Atlantic 2010 (replica of the 1903 three-mast schooner on which Charlie Barr in 1905 set the best time for an Atlantic crossing) to the Principality. Another icon, the SS Delphine (1921) steam-boat made a welcome return. It was aboard this beauty that three world leaders, Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill, negotiated at least part of the 1945 Yalta Agreement.

Yacht Seasons are typically opened with ultra-private concerts at YCM with celebrities like Sir Elton John in 2016, Duran Duran in 2017, and Sting last year. It was yet another global star Lionel Richie singing “All Night Long” this September who delighted the many boat owners and YCM members. “All Night Long” was attended by YCM President, Prince Albert II and a host of international personalities including actor-producer Samuel L. Jackson, basketball legend Magic Johnson, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and fashion designer Domenico Dolce, one of the two behind the eponymous brand D&G.

Regatta and Sports Heaven with a Golden Future

The Monaco Yacht Club from its beginnings embraced and has nurtured a prestige Regatta program that has accelerated and taken on new dimensions under Prince Albert’s Presidency.

It is worth mentioning the Primo Cup again as it has quickly established itself as the big meeting that opens the season in the Mediterranean for Europe’s one-design elite. Just a few other examples of stand-out Regattas enjoyed by YCMmembers include:

Monaco Swan One Design,  (9th-13th April 2019) organized in conjunction with the Yacht Club de Monaco,  was the first event in the 2019 Nations Trophy Mediterranean League.

Monaco Globe Week with the IMOCA 60  – 60-foot monohulls being among the fastest modern racing monohulls have raced on a course totalling 1,300 nautical miles embracing some of the most emblematic marks in the Western Mediterranean.

Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series  offers a monthly programme alternating high level regattas and training weekends for onedesigns.

As well as the Primo Cup another innovation worth a double mention here is  Monaco Classic Week. Persuaded that the reading of the past holds keys for the future Prince Albert fostered the creation and coordination during five years of a unique circuit for vintage and classic yachts, the Prada Challenge for Classic Yachts, without forgetting the acquisition of Tuiga in 1995, since becoming the flagship of the YCM. More recently the wave continued with the launching in 2005 of the “La Belle Classe” label.

The whole yachting world continues to look to Monaco to organize its most prestigious events. Within the last 12 months, 200 guests from the America’s Cup community from around the world gathered at the Yacht Club de Monaco to celebrate the launch of  the Prada Cup – the Challenger Selection Series for the 36th America’s Cup  to be presented by Prada in January 2021 in Auckland – deemed as “ the quest for oldest trophy in sport ”, the America’s Cup. Not to forget  World Rowing with the  Prince Albert II Challenge , a 6000m coastal race organised by the Societe Nautique de Monaco.

The Enthusiasm and Promise of Monaco’s Youth at YCM

Looking to the future is the Monaco Sports Academy which provides support to gifted young Monaco sailors and sportsmen taking on the world. The Academy is a close collaboration between the Yacht Club de Monaco, presided by Prince Albert and its General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri, and Philippe Ghanem who is an active member of the Club. They share a common goal: to help young athletes living in Monaco reach the highest level in sport.

Also founded in 1970 by Prince Rainier III, the Sports Section of Y.C.M. adapts training to youngsters from as young as age six from initiation to competition and at every age.

Look out for the Monaco Optimist Team Race from 9-12 January 2020. The regatta is reserved for 20 teams of young sailors, all under 14. YCM invites the most competitive clubs with emphasis on tactics and above all team-work.

Full of youthful energy and promise is  the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge  next held on 30 June-4 July 2020. The Yacht Club de Monaco, in collaboration with the International Powerboating Federation (UIM) and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation organises the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge which is unique in the world.

How to become a new member of the Yacht Club

Anyone wishing to become a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco needs to be introduced by two “sponsors” from YCM. The sponsor’s letter of introduction will explain the applicant’s motives for joining the Club. Prince Albert, President of the Yacht Club, presides over the meetings of the admissions’ committee. The role of the sponsor is essential. The latter, must integrate him into the life of the Yacht Club, accompany him, present him to the other members but also involve him in organized events, whether they be social or sports.

The sponsor also undertakes to ensure that his “protégé” embraces the YCM’s philosophy and values, will actively engage in the Club’s life and keep its reputation at the pinnacle.

A Regal Club and Natural Host of Prestigious Events

The Yacht club reaches well beyond being a club for owners of yachts and superyachts. It is actually an immense infrastructure akin to a multi-tiered island that organises not only events connected to the yachts and regattas but also all kind of sports and social events, dances and entertainment. High society balls, conferences, exclusive business gatherings and prestigious auctions are just part of the kaleidoscope of activity.

The members of the club and their guests have at their disposition restaurants with Michelin Star chefs (including the exclusive 1909) gyms and a library – and a spa-zone, not to mention the gorgeous pool and terraces overlooking the azure bay. There is a truly great bar, a hive of social contact, with an international reputation and winner of awards for its unique cocktails and the skills of its bar staff. Endless discovery is to be found in each private niche of this island-club.

Yacht Club de Monaco: more than a yacht club

Home Environment Yacht Club de Monaco: more than a yacht club

Established by Prince Rainier III in 1953, the Yacht Club de Monaco is the emblem of Monegasque yachting. Since 2014, it has had its own emblematic building, a striking piece of architecture by Britain’s Norman Foster.

With its sleek lines and architecture reminiscent of an ocean liner, the Yacht Club de Monaco’s headquarters building never fails to provoke a reaction. Officially unveiled in 2014, it was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Norman Foster.

“This building has been designed like a miniature city, integrated into the existing urban landscape of Monaco,” explains the architect, who was also behind the Millennium Bridge (2000), Millau Viaduct (2004), Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona (2007) and Vieux Port in Marseille (2013).

Chaired since 1984 by Prince Albert II , the Yacht Club de Monaco, with its 2,000 members representing 60 nationalities and prestigious yachts , illustrates Monaco’s historic role in the world of yachting .

The first regattas organised in the Principality date back to 1862, while the first international motorboat races – which arrived with the development of the first combustion engines – were contested in Port Hercule in 1904.

Today, the Yacht Club de Monaco organises a number of regattas, such as Monaco Classic Week, the Primo Cup and, more recently, the Monaco Solar and Energy Boat Challenge One.

“As part of our ‘Monaco, capital of yachting’ project, through this event the Principality helps to bring together manufacturers, engineers, shipyards, students and ship owners to share their experiences and respond to the energy and environmental challenges facing the nautical sector,” says Bernard d’Alessandri, Secretary General of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

The YCM has two influential ambassadors: Le Tuiga, considered by sailor Eric Tabarly to be “one of the most beautiful yachts in the world”, takes part in major classic yacht events, while the Seaexplorer (formerly Malizia II) , the eco-friendly vessel that took Greta Thunberg across the Atlantic in summer 2019 to attend the UN Climate Summit, finished fifth in the Vendée Globe 2020, the first time it has taken part in the race.

The building that houses the Yacht Club de Monaco emulates the shape of classic luxury liners. This masterful work by Pritzker-winner architect Sir Norman Foster —one of the world’s leading names in architecture and design—looks so spectacular that it actually outshines all the vessels moored at the emblematic marina.

Yacht Club de Monaco and Marina.

As we all know, Monaco is identified with the high life: luxury, royalty, the sea, casinos and, of course, the most spectacular yachts. It also boasts one of the most exclusive yacht clubs on the planet: the Yacht Club de Monaco, which opened its doors in 2014. The Club is the epicenter of nautical life in the small Principality and one of the most important in all the Mediterranean for its strategic location and the number of vessels that visit the port on a regular basis.

With a total area of 97,000 square feet, the imposing building has 54,000 square feet of interior space; the rest are semi-covered areas and large terraces plus a series of public spaces for the delight of all members and visitors. Its five floors are connected by the twin aft stairs and an imposing central spiral staircase.

The inviting glass structure offers spectacular views of the marina, harbor, and the Mediterranean. Completing its nautical aesthetic, the fourth level has a retractable canvas roof located on a sort of rigid structure that simulates the boom, which continues to reach the two towering 100-foot tall masts located at the front of the building. The space also boasts 26 docks for larger vessels up to 180 feet long, which make it a formidable and safe harbor for the some of the largest megayachts in the world, which usually spend the summers in the area.

The Yacht Club of Monaco resembles a classic ocean liner.

The Yacht Club de Monaco offers all kinds of luxurious and comfort amenities for its members and visitors, such as restaurants, ballrooms, special event space, public areas and a private club on the first floor. It also has an elegant library with more than 1,600 nautical titles, five guest rooms, gyms and a spectacular pool for a very enjoyable day-visit or a larger stay while sailing the fabled coast of the South of France.

In the surrounding area, there is ample parking for 140 cars. The interior of the building was decorated with delicate elegance and refined touches using Fendi Casa furnishings and materials that evoke luxury liners, such as wood in different textures and shades, polished aluminum and pristine white lacquer. Numerous works of art adorn the halls and the splendid Riva Bar, celebrating the traditional Italian yacht and luxury motorboats manufacturer , is the meeting place for those who enjoy navigation and socializing in one of the most elegant settings in Monaco.

The building is not only beautiful but also modern and environmentally-friendly. It has an elaborate system of photovoltaic panels for electricity generation, as well as a novel and sophisticated cooling system that operates using seawater. Combined, these state-of-the-art resources yield energy savings of 60 percent.   ■

Inauguration of the new YCM building

At 43°44’15’’ N and 7°25’40’’ E, this hi-tech building which looks like a liner docked on Quai Louis II is home to two of the Principality’s historic clubs: the Société Nautique (rowing club) and the Yacht Club, a meeting point for owners and focus of international yachting activities. Alongside Lord Foster and Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi, Jacques Grange and Nelson Wilmotte have put their talents to the service of the new building’s interior and exterior layout and design.

“ Allow me to express a very sincere wish that the Yacht Club de Monaco fulfil its mission as a link between people who love the sea, that it serves the interests ”

— Prince Rainier III

To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. It is a desire to preserve a certain ethic, both on land and on the water, and to foster a respect for naval etiquette and preservation of the environment. The Yacht Club de Monaco’s philosophy is based on the need to perpetuate but also to pass on a heritage, inherited from our ancestors, to ensure that the Yacht Club remains a lively and progressive place.
