Disney’s Haunted Mansion Reaches Staggering 180-Minute Wait
in Disneyland Resort
It looks like they were running low on happy haunts.
It seems like, over the last few months, the Disney Parks have been decimated by large crowds and huge wait times. We have seen classic rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean hit multiple-hour waits on a consistent basis.
Of course, these wait times don’t even compare to the lines for newer experiences like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind .
Related: Space Mountain Closes at Disney World, PeopleMover Evacuated
Many Guests have debated whether or not Disney Genie and Lightning Lane have helped or hurt the wait times at the Disney Parks, with some loving the new service and others absolutely despise it.
A lot of fans have no confidence that wait times can be controlled anymore after seeing a massive line for Radiator Springs Racers at Disneyland.

A similar discussion was sparked after Guests noticed how long the line was for the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland the other day.
The iconic attraction sat at a three-hour wait during the more crowded times of the day. Disneyland is certainly not in a slow season, but three hours is quite a lot for an attraction of this nature, especially considering it’s an omnimover like Disney World’s PeopleMover.

There may not be a more legendary ride in all of the Disney Parks than the Haunted Mansion. Here, Guests can take a seat in a gloomy Doom Buggy for a spooky tour through a house of happy haunts. While the ride remains popular throughout the year the holiday months certainly give the Haunted Mansion a boost in terms of Guests.
Starting in September, the Haunted Mansion as we know it transforms into Haunted Mansion Holiday.
For a limited time, The Haunted Mansion will welcome Guests into a new vision inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Guests will be able to see Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and even Zero, who will take over The Haunted Mansion at New Orleans Square for the 21st time since this holiday overlay began in 2001.
The opening of the Haunted Mansion Holiday marks the official start of the fall celebrations at Disneyland Resort, during which Guests can enjoy spooktacular decorations, meet their favorite characters in their best Halloween costumes, enjoy delicious seasonal treats, and so much more!

Walt Disney World Wait Times for Second Week of October 2023
by David Mumpower · October 16, 2023
Halloween is only two weeks away!
Not coincidentally, Disney theme parks around the world are increasing in popularity.
Tourists are dying to see the park decorations and celebrate the holiday at The Happiest Place on Earth.
How did the influx of crowds impact the parks? Here are Walt Disney World’s wait times for the second week of October 2023.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
During the first week of October, we tracked an average wait of 34 minutes per attraction at Animal Kingdom.
Typically, the park doesn’t experience traffic of that scale during early October.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
This surge in attendance speaks to the love that guests have for Disney Halloween decorations.
Did the trend continue into the second week of October? Here are Animal Kingdom’s average wait times:
- Avatar Flight of Passage – 91 minutes, up 26
- Na’vi River Journey – 70 minutes, up 8
- Kilimanjaro Safaris – 49 minutes, up 7
- Adventurers Outpost – 46 minutes, no change
- Expedition Everest – 33 minutes, up 3
- DINOSAUR – 32 minutes, up 9
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug! – 10 minutes, no change
- TriceraTop Spin – 10 minutes, no change
So, every attraction at the park either held its average wait time or increased.
Overall, guests stood in line for an average of 40 minutes per attraction, or six minutes more than last time. That’s an increase of roughly 18 percent.
This data aligns with what our park reporters noticed during their daily visits.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The first week of October signified the first time in a while that Hollywood Studios had shown sizable increases at its most popular attractions.
While the average attraction wait time only increased by two minutes, the unmistakable trend involved longer lines.
Did that pattern continue into the second week of October? Here are the park’s average waits:
- Slinky Dog Dash – 117 minutes, up 25
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – 94 minutes, up 18
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – 90 minutes, up 29
- Toy Story Mania! – 79 minutes, up 23
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – 74 minutes, up 20
- Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – 69 minutes, up 18
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – 68 minutes, up 10
- Alien Swirling Saucers – 42 minutes, up 4
- Red Carpet Dreams – 41 minutes, up 1
- Celebrity Spotlight – 22 minutes, up 2
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – 21 minutes, up 7
- Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy – 15 minutes, no change
- Muppet*Vision 3D – 10 minutes, no change

Ouch. That was pretty brutal. We can tell when this park experiences its largest crowds by counting the number of attractions with 60-minute waits.
For the past week, that number was…seven. Yes, that’s a lot.
Not coincidentally, the average wait time per attraction soared, with guests standing in line for 50 minutes, which is nine minutes or 22 percent more.
We’ve averaged a 20 percent increase in wait times across our first two parks. The trend seems clear.
Now, we reach the park that has the most new stuff happening at the moment.
As I’ve detailed, EPCOT is currently hosting a festival, opening a new attraction, and re-running the old version of Soarin’.
With so much in play, park attendance should increase anyway. How were the crowds last week? Let’s check.
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure – 81 minutes, up 17
- Frozen Ever After – 77 minutes, up 7
- Test Track – 67 minutes, up 4
- Soarin’ Over California – 62 minutes, up 15
- Royal Sommerhus – 37 minutes, no change
- Spaceship Earth – 21 minutes, up 4
- Journey into Imagination with Figment – 21 minutes, no change
- Mission: SPACE – 20 minutes, no change
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends – 19 minutes, up 1
- Turtle Talk with Crush – 16 minutes, down 3
- Living with the Land – 14 minutes, no change
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros – 10 minutes, down 3
Overall, guests at EPCOT waited for an average of 39 minutes per attraction, which is six minutes or 18 percent more than during the first week of October.
Okay, the pattern here seems obvious. The parks were mobbed during the second week of October. Here’s the data:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – 85 minutes, up 5
- Peter Pan’s Flight – 75 minutes, up 3
- Space Mountain – 57 minutes, no change
- Jungle Cruise – 54 minutes, up 2
- Haunted Mansion – 52 minutes, no change
- Princess Fairytale Hall – 48 minutes, up 1
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – 47 minutes, up 6
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – 46 minutes, up 3
- Ariel’s Grotto – 43 minutes, up 4
- Pirates of the Caribbean – 42 minutes, up 2
- Town Square Theater – 41 minutes, up 1
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh – 39 minutes, up 2
- Pete’s Silly Sideshow – 36 minutes, up 1
- Enchanted Tales with Belle – 35 minutes, up 4
- Astro Orbiter – 33 minutes, down 1
- It’s a Small World – 32 minutes, up 6
- Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid – 30 minutes, up 6
- The Barnstormer – 28 minutes, up 7
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant – 27 minutes, up 6
- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin – 25 minutes, up 7
- Tomorrowland Speedway – 24 minutes, up 4
- Mickey’s PhilharMagic – 20 minutes, up 5
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor – 19 minutes, up 4
- Walt Disney World Railroad – 19 minutes, up 6
- Country Bear Jamboree – 18 minutes, up 13 (!)
- Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover – 18 minutes, up 4
- Mad Tea Party – 17 minutes, no change
- Prince Charming Regal Carrousel – 16 minutes, up 3
- Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress – 5 minutes, no change
The first week of October looks like the first week that guests realized that Country Bear Jamboree wasn’t long for this world.
Disney will update the attraction in 2024 to modernize the music. So, the next few months represent the last chance to savor the classics.
Anyway, guests at Magic Kingdom waited in line for an average of 34 minutes per attraction, which is two minutes or six percent more than last time.
Notably, Magic Kingdom provides the best bang for the buck at Walt Disney World right now.
You should keep that in mind if you’re visiting for Halloween this year!

Wait Times Increase 47% at a Popular Disney World Coaster
By Emily Burrus 1 Comment
Disney World rides are some of the most immersive out there — they instantly transport you out of reality!
Whether that’s because you’re busy fighting Kylo Ren on Rise of the Resistance or jumping into a cartoon on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway , there are so many stories you can explore through attractions. This applies to roller coasters too — there’s a reason why they all almost always have a long wait! However, this week, one coaster saw a jump in wait times that caught our eye and we had to let you know about it.
We’re talking about Space Mountain over in Magic Kingdom ! This coaster takes you into outer space and is one of the more thrilling rides in the park. Nearly every wait time increased this past week, but Space Mountain saw a 47% jump!
Well Hello There
Last week, it posted an average wait time of 33 minutes. But this week, you’ll see a 53-minute average for Space Mountain ! This doesn’t come as much of a surprise overall — park pass reservations were completely sold out for one day this week and our reporters noticed higher crowds in Magic Kingdom.
If you’re hoping to skip the line at Space Mountain, remember you can book a Lightning Lane for it with the purchase of Genie+ . The price varies by day, but it does tend to be higher when crowd levels are higher. Want to skip the line for free? Head there first thing in the morning when wait times are lower!
Without further ado, check out the rest of the average wait times in Disney World from the last week!
Starting in Magic Kingdom , Seven Dwarfs Mine Train had the longest average wait time of 76 minutes. Last week the average wait time was 60 minutes so the average has increased.
Next, Peter Pan’s Flight averaged 65 minutes , Space Mountain averaged 53 minutes, Haunted Mansion averaged 45 minutes, and Jungle Cruise averaged 42 minutes . Average wait times held Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at 37 minutes, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at 34 minutes, Enchanted Tales with Belle at 34 minutes, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at 29 minutes, and Pirates of the Caribbean at 30 minutes , followed by Astro Orbiter at 28 minutes .
After that, “it’s a small world” averaged 23 minutes, Barnstormer featuring the Great Goofini averaged 21 minutes, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant averaged 20 minutes. closely followed by Tomorrowland Speedway and Magic Carpets of Aladdin a t 18 minutes and Mickey’s PhilharMagic at 16 minutes. Mad Tea Party averaged 15 minutes, and Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover jumped from 9 minutes to 18 minutes.
Prince Charming Regal Carrousel averaged 13 minutes, Enchanted Tiki Room averaged 12 minutes, and other attractions like Hall of Presidents, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, Carousel of Progress, and Liberty Square Riverboat all tied at 5-minute average wait times.
The Country Bear Jamboree and Tom Sawyer Island were walk-ons this week.
BAD NEWS If You’re Heading to Magic Kingdom Next Week
Heading over to EPCOT , Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure had the highest wait time with a 74-minute average. which has increased since last week. Frozen Ever After has the spot for the second-longest with a 72-minute average. This is a huge increase from last week’s 58-minute average.
Frozen Ever After
Next up is Test Track at 65 minutes, Soarin’ at 48 minutes , Mission: SPACE and Journey into Imagination at 19 minutes, Turtle Talk with Crush at 18 minutes, Spaceship Earth at 17 minutes, and The Seas with Nemo and Friends at 16 minutes.
Turtle Talk with Crush
Then, Living with the Land averaged 12 minutes and Gran Fiesta Tour averaged 10 minutes.
Living with the Land
Awesome Planet, Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, Impressions de France, and Reflections of China had no wait times this week.
Why We’re Worried About October 16th in EPCOT
This week, Slinky Dog Dash also saw a HUGE increase this week from 68 minutes to 102 minutes on average. This is the longest wait time in the park. Rise of the Resistance is next in this park with 86 minutes which is another increase from last week.
Other wait times in the park increased this week including Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at 75 minutes, Toy Story Mania at 64 minutes, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Tower of Terror, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at 61 minutes .

Is This the BEST Quick Service Restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Now, let’s head over to Animal Kingdom ! After dropping to a 54-minute average last week, Avatar Flight of Passage is up to a 94-minute average.
Following that, Na’vi River Journey at 64 minutes, Kilimanjaro Safaris at 47 minutes, Expedition Everest at 30 minutes, DINOSAUR at 24 minutes, and Kali River Rapids at 20 minutes .

If you do away with lighting lanes, the standby line wait times WILL come down. Even cast members that I spoke too don’t like the lighting lanes. They said at some rides it’s 80 to 10 guest split. Meaning they were told to let 80 lighting lane guest’s in to 10 standby guest. It’s pretty obvious why standby wait times are so long. And that’s all thanks to the money grabbing disney executives that made that decision…

When you’re at the Happiest Place on Earth, you want to feel, you know, happy . Waiting too long in line is the ideal way to feel decidedly displeased. My goal here is to arm you with the best information so that you’ll know which FastPasses to target and which lines aren’t that long. Here are the longest and shortest Disneyland wait-times.
6. Haunted Mansion
Image: Disney When Disneyland introduced the MaxPass , locals questioned the need to pay for a FastPass. The data supports this notion. Sure, MaxPass is phenomenal, but the wait-times at the park are generally reasonable. Plus, many of the frequent visitors are Anaheim locals who understand the daily, weekly, and monthly traffic patterns almost as well as Disney does.
I would describe the reasonable wait-times at Disneyland as a form of self-fulfilling prophecy. When the perception is that the park will have large crowds, people stay away. For this reason, wait-times can vary a great deal depending on the season. Whether this proves that surge pricing is a great or moronic idea is up for debate.
What the data shows is that Disneyland’s longest waits are nowhere near those at Magic Kingdom. Only two attractions at Disneyland surpass a 50-minute wait on average; Magic Kingdom has five .
Similarly, Haunted Mansion at Disneyland’s 38-minute average wait wouldn’t hold a spot in the top eight at Magic Kingdom. So, wait-time is one way that Disneyland is clearly superior to Walt Disney World.
5. Indiana Jones Adventure
Image: Disney The first four entries on this list all claim what I would consider reasonable average wait-times. That’s especially true for truly iconic/E-ticket attractions. Indiana Jones Adventure is a favorite of the Theme Park Tourist staff, and I cannot believe that something this good averages a 40-minute wait.
4. Splash Mountain
Image: Disney We can make direct comparisons for some of the attractions listed here. For example, Splash Mountain at Disneyland's average wait-time of 45 minutes is 15 minutes less than the one at Magic Kingdom. Now, I will add that the Florida park’s ride is longer and thereby better, in my opinion. I wouldn’t describe it as an extra 15-minute wait better, though.
3. Space Mountain
Image: Disney This ride has another direct comparison at Magic Kingdom. While Disneyland’s Tomorrowland ride comes with an average wait of 49 minutes, the one in Florida is again roughly 15 minutes longer. The recurring theme here is that Disneyland’s lines are shorter. In the case of Space/Hyperspace Mountain, the ride is arguably better, too.
2. Matterhorn Bobsleds
Image: Disney Did this one surprise you? I know that I checked the data multiple times since I didn’t expect it. However, upon reflection, it does make a lot of sense. As the first true steel roller coaster on the planet, Matterhorn Bobsleds dates back to the late-1950s.
Attraction loading and unloading areas were much less sophisticated back then. Frustratingly, Disney has never managed to cut down on the problems caused by the age of the coaster. When you want to slide down the Matterhorn, you must wait 52 minutes on average. It’s undeniably a classic attraction, but I question the bang for the buck here. Matterhorn Bobsleds is definitely a ride you should try to FastPass/MaxPass.
1. Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run
Image: Disney The other rides on this list have extensive data and traffic behavior available. With Smugglers Run, we’re still guessing to an extent. While the lack of crowds at Disneyland’s version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge draws headlines, the crowds remain extensive for the themed land’s first ride.
At the time of publication, you’ll wait an average of 55 minutes to pilot the Millennium Falcon. Contrast that to Magic Kingdom, where several attractions require a wait of an hour or more. Clearly, when you want to avoid the longest lines, you should head to the Happiest Place on Earth.
