1992 was a good year for Bill Clinton, as he became the 42nd president of the U.S., but a bad year for the Queen, as Windsor Castle caught fire.

However, away from the world’s political stage and the clamoring eyes of the media, a small company started life in a garage in Abbotsford.

Twenty years ago Phantom Screens introduced the concept of the retractable door screen solutions to North America. And the rest, as the cliché goes, is history.

C. Esther DeWolde, Phantom Screen’s chief executive officer, recognized this key milestone for the company.

“All those years ago, when a germ of an idea was planted in our minds, we could never have dreamed that Phantom Screens would grow into the international corporation it is today," she said. "The journey has been tough, exciting, fun, and most of all incredibly rewarding.

“Our 20th anniversary affords us the opportunity to look back and see all that we have achieved together. Without doubt, we have faced huge challenges and tough times. But by tackling them head on, and by the grace of God, we’ve survived. But much more than that – we’ve thrived.

Phantom Screens is North America’s leading provider of retractable screen solutions. They offer insect protection, solar shading and enhanced privacy for doorways, windows, and large openings. Phantom retractable screens are designed to pull or lower into place when required and retract out of sight when not in use.

“Twenty years in business is a long time and we’ve seen competitor companies come and go. However, we’re far from complacent," she said. "The change in global economic fortune has presented us with some of the biggest challenges we’ve met. But we have come through them and face the future with renewed vigor and hope.

"We cannot predict what will happen in the next 20 years for Phantom Screens, but if the last two decades are anything to go by we’re in for an amazing ride."
