As the time gets closer the Sint Maarten Yacht Club presents the lineup for the ‘Course de l’Alliance Inter-Island Regatta, with 18 participating boats.

Are you looking for an exciting display of sailing expertise, follow the event that will take place from December 1 – 3, 2023. The event kicks off at Simpson Bay , Sint Maarten and navigate throughout the neighboring islands of Saint Barth’s and Anguilla.  With the final leg of the races from Anguilla to Sint Maarten on December 3.

Young sailors shine at St. Maarten Regatta’s Next Generation Race

Twelve teams from the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) Sailing School showcased their skills at the St. Maarten Regatta’s Next Generation Race, held over the weekend of March 1 and 2 as part of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. The event brought together 24 talented sailors from various programs, including SMYC’s racing team, the primary school sailing program, and the afterschool sailing program.

The 24 young sailors were divided into 12 teams of two. The duos comprised kids with varying levels of sailing experience, all rotating in 6 RS Zest boats.

“This opportunity for young sailors to participate in such a big event is truly remarkable,” expressed Sam – racing coach and sailing instructor at Sint Maarten Yacht Club. “It’s a chance for them to be inspired and to further develop their passion for sailing.”

The competition unfolded over two days, with races taking place in Simpson Bay on both Saturday and Sunday. The program started midday on Saturday and the kids raced in the afternoon. On Sunday morning, the kids watched the bridge opening at Sint Maarten Yacht Club before heading out to the water to witness the start of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. The kids had lunch at the regatta village at Port de Plaisance and prepared themselves for an afternoon of racing. Each next-generation team competed in multiple races, with the non-sailing kids assisting the race officer on the committee boat.

After an intense weekend of competition, Team Lily Johnson and Joseph Johnson secured third place, while Team Nathan Sheppard and Robert Gumbs claimed second. Oskar Jarrett Versteegden and Chris Meekhof clinched first place in the 2024 Next Generation race.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the official prize-giving ceremony on Sunday, where the top three teams were honoured with trophies. However, the celebration extended beyond the winners, as all participants gathered on the main stage to receive applause from proud parents and sailors.

“The kids really enjoyed themselves and learned a lot! As these kids continue sailing, they’ll inspire others and make not only us proud, but whole St. Maarten,” said Wessel Tangenberg, race officer of the Next Generation race.

St. Maarten has become one of the Caribbean’s premier yachting destinations hosting some of the most exclusive and luxurious vessels in the world. We also have a thriving long-term and stopover cruising sector. The Simpson Bay Lagoon, in the island’s west houses the main facilities for yachts. The border cuts through the lagoon and divides St. Maarten from St. Martin. The Dutch side has most of the major marinas as well as a wide range of service companies and suppliers.

Yachting has great growth potential. The Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority Corporation (SLAC) has plans to further market and expand this sector. A subsidiary of Port St. Maarten, SLAC is responsible for both the lagoon and the John Sainsborough Lejuez Bridge which spans the only channel in Dutch St. Maarten between the lagoon and the sea. Endless sailing events. Year round. Organized by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. Yachts of all sizes from across the region come to the main annual sailing event, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.

LANDMARK PROJECT Causeway Investment has not been limited to the harbor. In December 2013 construction was completed of a 760-meter causeway connecting Airport Boulevard to Cole Bay. The idea of the causeway was first considered in 2001 and the landmark project has been realized. The principal aim was to ease congestion in the area by providing an alternative route to the Simpson Bay Bridge.

It includes two traffic lanes, walkways on both sides and protective barriers. Located almost along the Dutch-French border, the causeway includes a state-of-the-art swing bridge. This allows yachts to pass in both directions when open. When closed, it has an overhead clearance of 6.0 meters.

MARINAS Anything a captain or a ship might need can be found in St. Maarten. We’re boat country! Over 10 marinas can provide provisioning stores, sail makers, boat builders and chandleries. Haul-out services are available at various locations with three travel lifts with 75-150 ton capacity. 

DIVERSE. VERSATILE. ACCOMMODATING. Elsewhere in St. Maarten, Dock Maarten in Great Bay, the closest marina to the cruise terminal, can accommodate 40 vessels of up to 120 ft in length, while Captain Oliver’s Marina offers 150 berths in Oyster Pond on the east side of the island, which straddles the French/Dutch border. Yachts up to a maximum beam of 56 ft (17 meters) and a maximum draft of 17.0 ft (5.0 meters) can enter the Simpson Bay Lagoon through the John Sainsborough Lejuez Bridge.

GIGA YACHTS Giga yachts and vessels too large to enter the lagoon can be catered to elsewhere, including at designated windjammer berths beside the cruise facility in Great Bay or, depending on the cruise ship schedule, can berth alongside the cruise pier.

Fueling services are available to giga yachts in Great Bay; a fuel station has been installed at the windjammer berth. St. Maarten Harbor Fueling Company NV, a subsidiary of Port St. Maarten operates this facility and handles all refueling operations.

FUEL STATION Opened in 2011, the fuel station was set up solely to handle giga yachts unable to enter the Simpson Bay Lagoon due to depth restrictions. Three 20,000-liter tanks are for delivery at the berths and larger volumes can be delivered by road tanker.

LAGOON AUTHORITY FULFILS VITAL ROLES.

The Simpson Bay Lagoon is a vast enclosed area of relatively shallow water on the western side of St. Maarten, and is separated from the sea with a narrow strip of land on three sides. Straddling the border between St. Maarten/Saint Martin it is a haven for yachts and mega yachts from across the region.

One draw bridge allows vessels out into Simpson Bay and the open sea. The Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority Corporation (SLAC) is responsible for managing this stretch of water as well as the operation of the bridge.

In addition to managing, developing and controling Simpson Bay, the Simpson Bay Lagoon and the John Sainsborough Lejeuz Bridge (the Simpson Bay Bridge) also strives to enhance and improve the environment. It encourages visitors and vessels to comply with local rules and regulations and to keep the lagoon and its facilities safe and free of pollution. It aims to ensure that St. Maarten is one of the best, most pleasant and enjoyable yachting destinations in the Eastern Caribbean. SLAC is also a driving force in the development of economically and environmentally-sustainable and durable yachting tourism in St. Maarten.

LAGOON MANAGEMENT Within the lagoon, SLAC collects mooring fees and is involved in the maintenance of the lagoon. The Lagoon Authority also manages issues concerning dredging and navigation systems. SLAC works in conjunction with the St. Maarten police force and the coastguard to ensure users operate safely. The maritime police force, the St. Maarten Police Force and the coastguard work together.

BRIDGE Opened three times a day for both inbound and outbound traffic, a nominal fee is charge. Small vessels with a clearance of less than 8.6 ft can transit the bridge free of charge while closed. The bridge was installed in 1986 and the current structure will require replacement around 2017.

SECURITY In 2012, cameras were installed on the bridge for security purposes. Improved monitoring and security supported by the airport and the Ministry of Justice. As a result, illegal activity has been significantly reduced.

CUSTOMER CARE FROM SHIP TO GATE Port St. Maarten is known for good customer relations practice. Ensuring smooth, safe and efficient operations is of utmost importance. The key to this objective is a well-trained staff. Cargo handling, vessel services and the passenger experience can depend on it.

SAFETY Vast numbers of passengers as well as transshipment containers pass through our harbor daily. Security and safety is a priority at Port St. Maarten. The GLS has revolutionized the secure handling of port cargo. A police sub-station is strategically placed on the Captain Hodge Wharf. Security measures and practices are visible across the terminal – a comforting message to the passenger far away from home.

Went to the Yacht Club the weekend of the Heineken Regatta. Great location on the water and next to the Sint Marteen bridge. An excellent place to see the boats come in and out of the bay. Food at the Yacht Club is good. There is a good food selection on the menu and long list of beers in bottle and on tap. I had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with fries. The place is always busy during the lunch and dinner hours so my food did take some time to get to my table. Only downside is that wait staff have focused attention on customers near the bar and select customers sitting outside. Since I was sitting outside, my food and refills had long waits. Getting my bill was an even longer wait and I just went to the bar to close out my bill. Good place to eat. Hopefully others had better experience with wait staff service.

Were there foe Heineken week and this was the cwnter of our universe. We ate there 4 tiimes at least and can't count the number of times we drank there. They were super accommodating and provided ferries around the event. Lacy and Don are old friends and helped us feel welcome along with the great staff. The yacht Club vibe works for me and the ambience really made us feel at home. Can't wait to return in the future.

Visited 27 July 2023 Absolutely try the smoked salmon!! Expect a 15% gratuity to your bill. The Yatch Club was recommended for breakfast after talking with the Hilton Royal Palm hotel staff. It is located directly across the street fro. The hotel and took less than 5 minutes to walk over. We arrived after 10 am, so breakfast was still being served (breakfast is served from 7-11am). The restaurant sits right on the harbor and overlooks the water with seating inside and outside on the covered deck. We chose outside seating - it was cool watching the boats go by, and we even got to see the draw bridge go up for some of the bigger boats. There were also a few children fishing from the deck. We were greeted by our waitress shortly after sitting. I think breakfast is easy so we ordered right away. For drinks we both went with lemonade ‐ $5/each. For breakfast I had 2 eggs fried hard with bacon, home fries, and wheat toast - $10. My man had an omlet with home fries and wheat toast ‐ $12, and we had a side of smoked salmon - $10. The food was delicious and the smoked salmon was amazing. The atmosphere was good. It wasn't too loud and we got a cool breeze off the ocean. Some seats didn't have umbrellas, or it wasn't positioned to block the sun, so you had to select a seat out of the sun if you wanted a cooler seat. It wasn't too busy, but it took a while to get our bill. I don't think the waitress heard me when I initially asked for it. We weren't in a rush, so we sat and enjoyed the views while we waited.  One thing of note, although they take card payments, they do not accept American Express. So have a visa, MasterCard, or cash. Overall, good meal and I would definitely recommend for breakfast.

I sat at a table in this restaurant for 25 minutes and no one greeted me, let alone brought me a menu or water. The staff brought the table in front of me and behind a menu. I'm not sure what it's all about. It would give it zero stars, because I never tasted the food since they didn't serve me at all.

Terrible service. Waited 15-20 minutes and nobody came. Then after going to the bar and requesting a server, they came and took our order. One hour and 15 minutes later we decided to leave because our order never came. Weight staff was absolutely oblivious. told the waitress on the way out great breakfast, and she said oh thanks.

Located right on Welfare Road in Simpson Bay. Sint Maarten Yacht Club is open to the public for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. It is a very casual place with great views of Simpson Bay and the Simpson Bay Bridge. We enjoyed watching the luxury yachts and catamarans passing by us on the water when the bridge was up during our visit. I have been here twice now;; both times for lunch, and both times I have ordered the Classic Burger with cheese. It is delicious; cooked perfectly and complimented with seasoned French fries. My daughter ordered the jerk wrap. It was actually more of a panini with grilled chicken. She liked it because she said it had a good amount of spice. It also came with a side of fries. My sister had the seafood trio which was mussels, shrimp, and mahi. She raved about how much she loved it; especially the mussels. It came with 2 sides and she chose a side salad and vegetables, (green beans.) Service was friendly and a combination of waiters checked on us often. They also boast a daily happy hour from 3-6, (even on Saturday,) and the bar area was pretty full at about 4;00 in the afternoon. (You can't beat $2 ice cold beers and $4 cocktails!)

Great place. Seat yourself. Had the happy hour "three appetizers for $30. The "fish fingers " which were like battered fish (without the chips) were the best I have ever had. My husband had Jamaican jerk calamari which he loved, it was very spicy, not breaded. The atmosphere is excellent, music playing, all ages including children welcome. There were at least three people there w small dogs on a leash. Great view of bridge being raised to let the huge yachts pass through. Servers are efficient and personable. This is the perfect St. Maarten vacation vibe place. Don't miss it if you are here.

Clean,well lite. Not private public facility. Menu is decently priced. Mixture of seafood and dutch items. Bartender did good pours. Customers were mixed from beach attire to shorts and collared shirts. Being it's off season plenty of seats are available.

Looks to be another dive but looks can be deceiving. I've been coming to the island for years and simply drive past this place, man am I sorry. I was in the mood for just a plain burger. I ordered it medium well, it came out medium well. Lettuce, tomato and onion all very fresh. The fries were hot and crispy too. I saw others getting steak kabobs(they looked great!), chicken parm and other items you wouldn't expect from a place like this. The staff is great too! Very friendly and helpful. Overall one of the better meals I've had on the island in years. Please don't let the outside(or inside)fool you. Go here as son as you can!

The food was incredible, myself and three other guest tried all different plates from surf to turf and everything was beyond amazing. You will be beyond impressed trying this establishment, when on the island this is a must have. They also have the most superb Bloody Mary's. I'm telling you, you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. This is my first time ever visiting and i will be here every time i return.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.
