Everything about this boat exhibits pride of ownership. From the topside to the hull, to the cabin and head, every piece of equipment, furniture, and electronics have been nicely maintained. The engine is reported by the owner to be in good working order and the hull is frequently cleaned. Stock #343004 Vessel has been restored and she's gorgeous, with an artisan's attention to every last detail! This is an amazing sailboat that was rebuilt 12 years ago from stem to stern, and expertly maintained since then. A Yanmar 75 HP diesel engine was installed and has approximately 271 hours of operation. The current owner is a licensed sea Capitan and purchased the boat soon after its rebuild was completed. He has been chartering the boat for Bay Cruises and keeps it looking just like it did when he purchased it. The photos were taken on July 6, 2023. Just take a look at every aspect of the boat. The hull is polished, the top deck is clean, and the teak woodwork is maintained with several applications of varnish. Inside, the main cabin, the v-berth, and the head all look great. You would never know this boat was built in 1975 unless you are told. This is a special boat for a discriminating buyer. 43 foot LOD Dished steel, George Sutton designed Custom made by a professional shipyard. This vessel has never been launched and is awaiting completion. Interior stringers are predrilled for easy bolting of interior. Wear points, Chainplates, Stanchion bases, Hatch hinges, and mooring cleats are all welded stainless steel to prevent rust staining by lines etc. wearing through the paint. I purchased the vessel from the welder. vessel was white blasted prior to having 5 + coats of epoxy sprayed. I rolled on over 20 gallons of additional epoxy coats. In addition to Spars, sails, rigging and interior woodwork, the Vessel needs engine (Designed for 85=100 HP diesel), needs prop and prop shaft. I have a transmission that probably needs rebuilt. Also it has 10,000 pounds of lead ballast in keel, 200 gallons of fuel tankage also built into the keel. Engine bed mounts welded in over the bilge. Bronze steering quadrant. Stainless Steel destroyer wheel.This hull is very well built and would make an ideal bluewater cruiser or circumnavigator. Priced at under half of the cost of a new hull build out, this boat is a great project.

If you've spent time on a friend's sailboat or enjoyed a few weekends with a sailboat rental, you certainly know that having your sailboat can be an incredible experience. Having your own sailboat can give you the freedom to enjoy sailing, exploring, fishing, and watersport while creating fun memories with friends and loved ones. If anything, sailing is an activity that you can indulge in and enjoy anytime you like. Most of us have been told that you need "Mt. Everest" sort of money to own a sailboat. This is just a widespread misconception that can take the wind out of your sails, so to speak, before you even hit the waters. Although owning a sailboat does cost money, it's quite affordable than most people think.in addition to the cost of buying your sailboat, there are other costs and expenses to consider. It only makes sense that you know all the costs involved in boat ownership so that you come up with a better plan and budget. So what's the average cost of buying and owning a sailboat? The price of owning a sailboat may vary depending on several factors such as the size of the sailboat, its model, whether it's new or used, and how often you use the sailboat. For example, a new Islander 36' can cost nearly $150,000 while a used one can cost you around $40,000. Let's look at these 15 popular sailboats and how much they cost. 1) Catalina 30 ($18,000) Depending on the year of production, a Catalina 30 can cost around $18,000. Having been around since 1972, the Catalina 30 is known for its great performance both when racing and cruising. This is a boat that will never let you down when sailing or racing. Well, that's because it brings forth a perfect blend of comfort, durability, and speed. If anything, buying a Catalina 30 would mean that you're the proud owner of one of the most popular sailboats of all time. The Catalina 30 is very affordable and comes fairly equipped as a very basic but reliable boat, though you can significantly improve its functionality if you customize it. There are so many Catalina 30s in the globe that it shouldn't be a problem finding one that suits your budget in terms of the initial purchase cost and maintenance cost. But like with any boat, you should be willing to compromise when it comes to certain features. However, you can significantly improve it if you spend some amount on improving it. All in all, a Catalina 30 is one of the most affordable and easy to maintain boats in the world. 2) Islander 36 ($22,000 and above) Built from 1971 to 1985, the Islander 36 was and remains one of the longest-lived 36-footers in the U.S. market. With over 750 units built, the Contessa 32 remains one of the most popular cruiser-racer sailboats of all time so it's not a surprise that its cost can be quite hefty. This is a seaworthy vessel that's superb for offshore voyages even when the weather seems to be extreme. In other words, the Contessa 32 has become widely revered thanks to its ability to endure rough seas and harsh weather. That's not all; a Contessa 32 will never disappoint you in a race. In essence, the Contessa 32 is a great boat that will give you the confidence of sailing far and wide even single-handed. This is an incredible upwind boat that's impeccably behaved and easy to maneuver, though it can be a bit difficult to handle when sailing downwind. If you own a Contessa 32, you'll never crave anything else as it's durable, easy to maintain, and will serve you across generations. This is not just another fiberglass boat. This is a worthy sailboat that means that you'll be joining a cult of the few. 4) Pearson 34 ($14,000-$30,000) Pearson is one of the well-known producers of sailboats in the world. Since the 1980s, the Pearson 34 has been magnificently sailing the blue waters thanks to its superb sails, electronics, and equipment. This is, without a doubt, a real eye-catcher that's highly comfortable for day sailing, weekends, and extended voyages. In terms of pricing, the Pearson 34 is fairly priced though it may seem quite expensive when compared to most sailboats on this list. However, that may not be true especially if you consider the many features that come with the Pearson 34. This is a sailboat that can be easily handled by two people, which is one of the main reasons that it remains competitive in the market today. This boat has plenty of room but has some shortcomings such as small tankage of 22 gallons. Its 6 foot daft can also be an issue but this isn't an issue in a keel version. In short, the Pearson sails are great and are easy to handle though you'll have to make sure that it's perfectly maintained, which can be quite costly. 5) Nordic 40 ($130,000 and above) Designed by Robert H. Perry, the Nordic 40 is thus far the biggest and the most expensive boat on our list. This is an excellent offshore sailboat that's willing to take on many challenges with a special aura. In addition to being quite roomy, the Nordic 40 has a deep-draft fin keel that gives it a superior windward ability. It has large fuel tanks and fresh water tanks that will ensure that you're sufficiently fueled for your voyages. This is a thoughtfully designed sailboat that should offer the utmost comfort for your bluewater escapades. It will allow you to confidently cruise through your chosen grounds with ease while turning heads. Given that it's a pretty large boat, you should be prepared for some hefty maintenance costs. This is a fine sailboat that was designed for long voyages given its ample accommodation and comfort. It is also more solid and very dependable. 7) Nor'Sea 27 (Less than $30,000) This 27-footer sailboat designed by Lyle Hess is one of the most ocean-capable and quite affordable sailboats that are still in production today. This is a very compact sailboat that can be moved safely and easily by trailer from one area to another or across any ocean. Do not get duped by its small and compact size; this is a very solid sailboat that can withstand even the worst of weather conditions. In addition to a lapstrake fiberglass hull, this boat has sturdy bulwarks, a full keel, and a round stern that gives it the utmost seaworthiness. The Nor'Sea should just be evaluated in terms of features. It should also be evaluated in terms of its sailing performance and comfort too. This is a versatile boat that is of high quality. It is a tight little boat that is spacious and can be easily transported. The cost of the used models may vary considerably but this may depend on the age of the boat, condition, and quality of finish. Given that this is one of the most transportable boats, it will be sold together with a trailer. As such, you shouldn't overlook the cost of replacing a trailer as it can cost as much as $9,000. So if you need an affordable and compact boat to circumnavigate the globe, the Nor'Sea 27 may be a good option. 8) Cal 34 ($19,000-$30,000) Designed by Bill Lapworth, the Cal 34 is a beautifully balanced boat that will make sailing quite delightful. How Much Does a Sailboat Mast Replacement Cost? Now I won't ask why you are researching mast replacement - the story behind it is probably tragic and I don't wanna cry as I do whenever I see an injured sailboat. But it is what it is and you simply need a new mast. Let's have a look at how much this will cost, how much of that price is negotiable, and what you need to pay attention to - so that you don't need the services of this article anytime soon. Replacing a mast costs between $15,000 - $30,000 for an average sailboat. Out of that, $4,000 - $6,000 is the cost of labor. The mast itself costs between $10,000 - $25,000. The total cost of a sailboat mast replacement raises exponentially as you go up in boat size. But since there are many variables in this, let's have a look at it in more detail to make sure you only pay for what you need. Replacing a mast rarely happens without replacing the standing rigging as a whole - which are the wires that hold the mast in place. So for the sake of simplicity and useability, this will be mentioned in the article. But in case you came here to find out what replacing only the mast will cost, let's have a look. In short, this will cost you around $7,000 - $15,000 for an average-sized sailboat. But since there are a lot of variables at play here, please take the above figure with a grain of salt - the price is very much dependent on the size and age. As for the size, I am talking about 30-something-footers, and as for the age, I am talking about new masts. Thus if your boat is bigger, the figure won't apply to you anymore. Similarly, if you just bought an older, $20,000 sailboat and you don't exactly fancy spending half of its price on a new mast, chances are you will pick something used, and then you can find a mast in a reasonable condition for around $2,000. Buying a second-hand mast is possible, but do make sure it is in a condition worth the money you are paying for it. We will talk about what that condition is later too. That's it for just the mast, but even if you only came for this figure, don't leave us yet. We will talk about various other costs associated with this operation. After all, it doesn't end with just purchasing the spare parts. Realistically speaking, chances are that if your mast needs replacement, so does your standing rigging. If the mast is too old, the standing rigging is likely aged too. If the mast got damaged, the standing rigging probably did too. So most of the time, it has to be factored in the cost. Don't worry though, it is not a significant addition to the overall sum, at least proportionally speaking. So how much will this set you back? On an average boat with a 30 or so foot length, the standing rigging is likely to cost around $1,500 and upwards. Don't go too far up though, if the quotes you are receiving from riggers in your area go over $2,000, start being suspicious. Not that there is no good reason for the higher price, but do ask questions. Now, if your boat is bigger than the 30-or-so-footers that we take as the averagely sized boat and you are doing the math in your head now to see what figure applies to you, hold on a second - the price here goes up exponentially, not in a linear fashion. So going up ten feet from the above estimation can easily mean doubling the price, not just adding fifty percent to it. There is no conspiracy behind this. It is so mostly because the rigging's length goes up, but so does its width. Bigger boats need stronger rigging, and thus your price is growing twice as fast. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, quite a large chunk of the whole deal is the cost of the work that's gotta be done to put the rigging up. So some might be inclined to do this themselves to save some dollars. Whether this will be worth the time is a question. Such an endeavor requires a lot of research, not just when it comes to attaching everything that's gotta be attached, but also choosing the right kinds of wires. Not any old wire is up to the job; sailboat rigging has to withstand much more than what the usual manufacturing norm offers. It will also cost a lot of time, so unless you are prepared to spend it on the repair, don't do it. You might end up hating your boat, and that isn't worth it. That all being said, if you do want to go at it yourself, you might be saving something over $100 per foot of sailboat length - that is the approximate cost of work required for re-rigging a sailboat. So a 30 something sailboat would set you back some $4,000. Things don't end here though. There is the cost associated with unstepping the mast, for which you are likely to need a crane. You might want to do this whole thing on dry land, so when calculating, factor in taking the boat out of the water, moving it around, perhaps towing it somewhere, all of which requires time, equipment, and manpower that, if outsourced, might cost around $2,000. And since even if you do this yourself, you will probably have to rent the crane and the trailer, not much is to be saved here. Replacement of the rigging has to be done every now and then, but to make sure you don't do it more often than necessary, here are a few tips on how to have your boat rigging live as long as possible. First of all, if you are currently unsure about whether your rigging needs replacing, you can hire a rigger for around $80 to inspect your boat and tell you the state of it. Make sure they are an honest person; it's their job to replace rigging, so telling them yours has a few good years ahead of it still is not exactly in their business interest. There is a way to check things yourself. Make sure to visually inspect the mast foot, which will be either on the deck or below, if it is connected to the keel. If you see any sign of corrosion, that's bad news. So if you are buying a boat and this is what you find, either don't go for it or expect repairs. Visual inspection of the rigging works the same way. Visible signs of corrosion are a bad sign, things looking out of order too, luckily consulting the internet can give you a good idea of how what should look even if you are doing this for the first time in your life. As for the body of the mast, it is okay to have a few scratches on it, but make sure you repair them - the mast is usually coated to protect against corrosion, and scratches tend to go through this coating. The same applies to dings that might have been created because of metal components attached to the lines smacking against the mast. While these won't likely impact the structural integrity of the mast, they can damage the coating. Make sure your lines are in a position where the dings won't happen or that the metal components are wrapped in something to protect the mast. Speaking of the mast, check whether it is straight. If it bends slightly back, that is considered okay, but any other direction means the rigging isn't holding it in place properly. And unless this inspection happens after taking the mast down, it is time to go up - hoist yourself all the way up to inspect the mast in its entirety. Check for scratches but also inspect the spreaders. These should be straight and all angled the same way. Replacing the mast as well as the standing rigging can be a costly endeavor, but one that is a necessary part of a boat owner's life. It will very likely set you back thousands of dollars, but if you take care of your boat well, inspect it regularly and do small maintenance repairs when needed, you will avoid the replacements for as long as possible. It is also a good idea to pay attention to the rigging when buying a used boat. Because of how much this costs and because much of the rigging tends to be up and thus out of sight, it pays off to have a look at it closely - every now and then some eager sailor buys a second-hand sailboat only to find they have to pay half the cost of the whole vessel for repairs.
