To make it a little bit easier, we have compiled a list of some of the best places to visit:

Dalmatian Islands (Hvar, Pakleni Islands, Mljet, Trogir, Vis, Korčula, Brač) Best for : Picturesque harbours, secluded coves and golden beaches, crystal clear waters, lush National parks, historic monuments, scuba diving, windsurfing, watersports, hiking, wine tasting and olive groves

Dalmatia Region
This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.
Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel', Split has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.
Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.
Istria Region
Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.
Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.
Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Croatia’s stunning coastline and idyllic verdant islands have made it one of the most popular regions for Mediterranean yacht charters . To truly experience the magic of this country, here are our tips on the places you must check out when you charter a yacht in Croatia.

- Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
- Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
- Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
- Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.
Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.
But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.
Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.
As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.
Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia
Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.
You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.
Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia
The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.
There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.
Gulet Charters in Croatia
Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .
With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;
- For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
- For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses
The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.
related articles
There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .
Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.
For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .
Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.
It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .
sample itineraries
We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.
There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.
There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;
- ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
- ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
- Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
- ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
- Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.
Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;
- D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
- ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
- Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.
For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:
- ACI Marina Split – located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
- Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
- D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.
With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.
If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.
Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A
Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;
- Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
- Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
- You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.
There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.
Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.
Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.
Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.
Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.
The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.
You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.
Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.
Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.
Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.
For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide: Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Professional service from start to finish, I look forward to booking again next year
Mr Tallberg
It was a memorable experience. It was very easy working with 212 Yachts. I would definitely book with them again and I am planning on doing so next year!
I have been booking yachts with Jenny and her team for the last 6 years, and I hope to do so for many more. The standard of service they provide is simply unmatched - and friends and colleagues of mine who I have recommended since all agree. If you are looking to charter a yacht, whether you are experienced or it is your first time, you can't go wrong with 212 Yachts!
Peter Madden
This was my very first time organising a yacht charter. I was a little apprehensive and overwhelmed at first by the entire process. Then a close friends recommended Jenny and her team at 212 Yachts. From the very beginning Jenny guided me through the process, was so helpful and ensured everything was catered for. I could not have done it without her. The holiday was amazing and I have already provisionally booked for next year. Thank you so much 212 Yachts.
I don’t even know where to begin. But let’s start with you and your team. From the first call we had over a year ago where you taught me about the charter yacht world through to today has been incredible. I truly don’t think I will adequately be able to express my LOVE for everything. From the moment you sent me the Captain's mobile number and we started communicating, he was terrific. The entire crew … everyone … was magical. They were the perfect blend of professionalism with a fun side. This trip exceeded every expectation I had and what was meant to be a once in a lifetime trip is now likely going to be annual or at least every other year. Thank you for everything, Jenny!

Great day with no complaints. We will be using your service again.
We had a great day on the boat around St Tropez and the captain was great. He couldn't have done more. Thanks to the effort of the staff, we were able to rearrange a table at a popular restaurant.

- FAQ: Answers to Your Adriatic Exploration Queries
The city of Dubrovnik is a proud ambassador of the many charms of Croatia in the world, and all who visit the country should take a walk through its streets. Grad, as the locals call it – literally, The City – offers a range of glamorous experiences, and visitors are faced with a painfully sweet choice of what flavor they want their visit to be.
After the spectacular city gates welcome you, take a walk through the walls of Dubrovnik that have cradling the city for centuries, mighty and protective. Atop one of these five-century-old towers, there lies one of the 100 best nightclubs in the world, the Revelin Club, where you can sail into the night like nowhere else in the world.
Other experiences not to miss are the lively pulse of the stone maze that is Stradun and the streets around it, delicious food in any of the city’s most prestigious restaurants , and a refreshing cool drink in the Buža Bar at the southern part of the city walls, with a unique view of the open sea and Lokrum – a green island treasure under UNESCO protection.
This island as peaceful urban oasis with some of the most desirable beaches in the country, and definitely worth a visit. If you’re so inclined, take a ride in the cable car to Srđ, a mountain that proudly towers over Dubrovnik. There, from Panorama restaurant, indulge in a view that will make you understand why this photogenic city was chosen to shoot the popular series Games of Thrones and why many choose Dubrovnik as the place for their romantic wedding.
It is best to visit Dubrovnik outside the high season, but if you can’t do that and come in July or August, we recommend you use the early morning hours to walk through this fairytale city or for another attractive experience – sail alongside its spectacular walls .
Smaller yachts mostly drop their anchor in the nearby ACI marina Komolac, is tucked away in the canyon of the shortest river in Europe – Omble, while larger ones usually stay in the port of Gruž, in one of the most glamorous Croatian marinas – Marina Frapa Dubrovnik.
With southerly winds, a number of luxury yachts often anchor near the nearby island of Daksa, enjoying beautiful views and in this most prestigious anchorage, between Old town and the enchanting Lopud. There you can often see the most attractive yachts sailing the Adriatic.
Start your adventure by reading our comprehensive guide to Dubrovnik .
The sailing slalom between the islands of Koločep, Lopud, Šipan and Jakljan, separated only by a few miles and sprinkled like green puzzle pieces of the Elaphiti islands, will prove to be a unique yachting pleasure. The only one uninhabited among them is Jakljan, while the other three are inhabited and similar in every way.
Make sure to explore the almost too picturesque places of Lopud and Šipan. Anchor in the most attractive bay of this archipelago – Šunj Bay, famous for sand and turquoise, and Cima Beach bar, where popular DJs guarantee a good time.
On the island of Šipan, treat your palate to a foodie treat in the family-owned tavern Kod Marka, or the excellent fine dining restaurant Bova , whose atmosphere and shallow, clear waters remind many of their guests of the Caribbean.
For more info read our blog about a perfect yachting trip to Elaphiti Islands .
National Park Mljet stretches over one third of the island of the same name and is one of the most beautiful Adriatic gems, a green oasis whose meditative energy cannot be missed.
To feel the natural vibration of this nature’s masterpiece where pine branches descend all the way to the lake surface, choose a time when the nature wakes up or when the sun is slowly setting on the horizon.
These lakes are a paradise for lovers of active life. You can explore them by kayak, and don’t forget to visit the island of St. Mary with an ancient Benedictine monastery. An equally beautiful experience is a round around the lakes on bicycles, along the 11-kilometer trail.

Find the secret spot under the Small Bridge – where the Great Lake meets the Little Lake, by the town of Soline – where the Great Lake merges with the open sea, creating a natural jacuzzi shaped by tides. At dusk, take a walk along the eco trail to the top of Montokuc (258 meters), or up the less demanding trail to the top of Veli Gradac (157 meters) – both will reward you with a divine view.
Before leaving the beauty that is Mljet behind your stern, take another type of strawl and sail through the islands that, like a natural breakwater, completely hide the port of Polače from view from the sea, forming what we consider the most beautiful sailing corridor in the Adriatic.

What makes Korčula even more appealing are the 20 islands in front of it; small and big, protected from all wind and perfect for a relaxing day with a dropped anchor. After a day off, take a stroll through this walled city whose inhabitants are well known for their love for song, dance and hospitality.
Excellent position of Korčula on the peninsula delights all those who approach it from the sea: the town was erected on the very spot where the Pelješac Channel is at its narrowest, for tactical oversight of galleys and other ships.
The streets of town of Korčula were built in the herringbone pattern – and not just for its aesthetic appeal, but to allow safe circulation of air in the hot summer months – a feature beloved by both residents and visitors.
While you’re waiting for their return and admiring their maneuvers in the channel, you can visit the locally famous Cukarin for traditional sweets and desserts. When the heat subsides, the musical backdrop of this city comes alive: the melodic a capella singing. Those who wish to experience real gastro-extravagance will be pleasantly surprised by the Michelin-starred restaurant Lešić Dimitri.
As imaginative as they are, locals throw a spectacular Half New Year-party every year, but if you are not one of the lucky ones who meet there on June 30, make sure you at least donot miss the romantic battle dance moreška.
In the vicinity of Korčula lies Lumbarda , home of an autochthonous white grape variety Grk, definitely worth tasting, as well as of two enchanting sandy beaches; Bilin žal and Pržina. Charming archipelago between Korčula and Lumbarda is a popular stopover spot for yachts looking for some privacy and unspoiled beauty. Those who want a spectacular experience laced with local flavors have to read our text about awesome things to do on island of Korčula .

The town of Hvar and the Pakleni islands are a must-see destination for everyone sailing through the waters around Split. Although primarily interesting to lovers of glamorous parties and high-impact nightlife, this corner of Croatia offers many other seductive points.
In the town of Hvar, you should definitely climb Fortica fortress, which offers an incredible view of the town and the playful Pakleni islands, and lose your way in the many cobbled streets where distant past seems like it was only yesterday, visit the local monastery, many churches and the oldest theater in Europe.
Those who aren’t in a partying mood can enjoy the town’s slower lifestyle over a cup of coffee, a glass of good wine or over lunch created by some of the country’s most famous chefs in the best Hvar restaurants .
This little town deserves its popularity among high-end clientele, whose large yachts can often be seen anchored at a distance, or at the dock, if their skipper is as skilled at negotiating as navigating.
Pakleni Islands are an island heaven for Robinsons, party goers and gourmets alike. This micro-archipelago made up of 21 islands in all shapes and sizes is connected to the town of Hvar as if by an umbilical cord.
Drop your anchor in the ACI Marina Palmižana , one of the most beautiful marinas in the Adriatic, and take a relaxing stroll along the many lovely coves on these islands.
Read our post: Hvar: A prestigious nautical cocktail.
The island of Vis is beloved among locals and international yachts alike. Made famous by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, filmed on its shores, the island has in 2019. made it to the UNESCO geo-parks list.
The island is just perfect in size for exploration, and easily approachable by sea, but don’t let that stop you from exploring its interior, as well. Take two to three days for getting to know Vis: spend a day in Vis old town or the picturesque Komiža, or sneak into one of the many hidden coves dotted alongside its northern and southern shores.
Please keep in mind the cave is not accessible during southerly winds, and that in high season this is the most popular place around, so make sure you count in waiting time into your schedule. The blue calm that will hug you as soon as you enter the cave will be well worth the wait.
Explore Vis: An yachting adventure of a lifetime .
Split grew from a quiet, provincial place only interesting for a short stay en route to the nearby islands into an impressively attractive destination equally interesting to tourists arriving by land and those sailing in.
This town where the past and the present seem to have joined their hands in creating something unique is best know for an emperor’s palace: Roman emperor Diocletian’s fortress and palace built in the 4th century. The stone complex standing proudly for 1700 years is a true cultural monument, and with the right tour guide you’ll find yourself teleported through time, all the way back to the exciting antiquity when the palace was erected.
Lovers of sun and sand will love the busy and crowded town beaches, like Bačvice and Firule on the eastern side of town, lively almost 24 hours a day.
Split has some years ago added another event to their busy schedule, the ever so popular Ultra Europe Music Festival, so if electronic music isn’t your idea of a relaxing vacation, make sure you book your stay well in advance, as during the festival and in weeks leading to it you’d be hard pressed to even find a room for rent, let alone anything bigger.
Larger yachts seem to prefer the Kaštela Bay on the northern side of Split, but you may also try your luck in the town port on its western side. Once again, this area is extremely popular in high season, so if you are planning to visit in July or August, make sure you book everything in advance. Our recommendation, though, is to avoid the high season altogether – our favorite time to explore Split and its surroundings is the charming and warm September.

Krka National Park has never left a visitor disappointed, but has left many of them speechless. This unique place in the region is even more beautiful if you sail it on your own boat, creating your own itinerary.
The park is crossed with hiking trails (29 km) and bike trails (470 km), so you can explore all of it on your own and work on your health while you’re at it. This green fantasy land is a true paradise for active individuals and lovers of pristine nature and calm.
In Skradin, take a short lunch break and try the local risotto, prepared over two days, or visit the oldest trattoria in Croatia, Konoba Mate. Around here, yachts are usually anchored in the ACI Marina Skradin or in the downtown port, but many a yacht can be seen anchored along the coast, far from the hubbub and surrounded only by the song of frogs and crickets.
Discover National Parks in Croatia: Adriatic Oases of Astonishing Beauty .
This tiny region of the Adriatic and even tinier part of the Mediterranean is completely different from everything in its vicinity. As rocky and sandy as its neighbors are lush and green, the Kornati archipelago is locally known as the Croatian Moonscape.
Still, these rocky islands, almost all 89 of them, do have some green on them, too. Tiny coves and irresistible green oases beloved by the locals – some of whom live on those islands during the summer season – are perfectly suited for welcoming both yachts and their masters. On some of the islands, visitors will be delighted to find charming little trattorias and restaurants offering some of the finest foods in the region.
Start your hike in Kraljavčica cove and climb all the way to the top of the majestic Metlin (237 m) one hour later, and if you feel extra sporty, go all the way to Magazinova Škrila, which will take you another 20 minutes.
Should you happen to be around here on the first Sunday in July, don’t miss the feast of Our Lady of Tarac, celebrated in the church of the same name and visited by a number of yachts and boats every year.
Kornati certainly have more faces than they seem to at first, so make sure you don’t spend your entire vacation on your yacht. Also, while you’re around these waters, visit one of the largest natural ports in the Adriatic, the nearby Telaščica bay – another nature park –, the Mir lake, a salt lake whose calming energy will wash over you the second you see it, or the nearby Dugi island cliffs.
Begin your journey with the one-of-a-kind scenery of the National Park Kornati will impress every sailor .
This archipelago looks like dost of green paint on the blue canvas of the Adriatic: 14 magically appealing islands, most of them smaller and under 55 m in height. The largest among them, Veli and Mali Brijun, charm with bays and coves, but keep in mind yachts have limited access: they are only allowed to dock in the Sv. Nikola bay on Veli Brijun and the Sv. Mikula bay on Mali Brijun. All yachts longer than 180 ft can anchor in the nearby Fažanski channel separating the archipelago from Istria.
Brijuni also have tennis and golf courts, many intimate beaches accessible by kayak, but if all this is too much activity for a vacation, just relax until it’s dinner time and you can enjoy one of the many exclusive restaurants in the archipelago.
During July and August, Brijuni turn into a large stage, as the islands host The Ulysses Theatre. This international theater project, held annually since 2001, is a special treat for all theater lovers, with events like shows and concerts sprouting all around, but primarily in the fantastic setting of fort Minor. Brijuni have been celebrated in many a book and travel guide, so if you’re in the vicinity, come by and write your own green island adventure.

Considered one of the most romantic towns in Europe by many painters, writers, and modern travelers and adventurers, Rovinj is a place of candle-lit summer nights that welcomes visitors – be they full of expectations or just curious – and sends them on their way as friends.
Surrounded by lush green woods and the Mediterranean greenery of the town park Zlatni rt, some of the finest hotels in Adriatic are places where both body and spirit take a breather. Choose however you see fit, but we suggest a chocolate massage or a honey massage; don’t those sound appealing? No? Are you more of a gold-facial kind of person? Or a Michelin-star dinner at Restaurant Monte or Restaurant Agli Amici? Whatever you may choose, you will not soon forget it, and those moments will taste better with time, like fine wine, lit by the soft golden light of memory.
Fall in love in Rovinj, one of the most romantic towns in Europe .

In addition to its natural beauty, Croatia also has a rich cultural heritage. The country is home to many historic towns and villages, as well as delicious food and wine. The Croatian people are also known for their hospitality. Here are some of the specific reasons why you should charter a yacht in Croatia:
• Wide variety of charter options: There are yachts to suit all budgets and needs in Croatia. You can charter a small sailing boat for a romantic getaway or a large motor yacht for a group vacation.

The yacht rental price always refers to a period of 7 days. The basic price of renting a luxury yacht includes the hire of the yacht, yacht’s insurance and crew service. An additional cost is VAT of 13%, and the supplies, fuel, marina fees and all extra services, and are always covered by the APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) which is usually 30% of the charter fee. Delivery/return fees may also apply if the charter week does not start/end from the home port.
The crew will take care that your every wish is realized, also based on the pre-filled Preference List.
The best time to rent a yacht in Croatia is from spring to autumn. The pre-season starts with Easter and lasts until the beginning of July, with changeable weather and sea temperatures up to 23 degrees Celsius. There are no big crowds at the anchorages and marinas during this time.
The peak season is in July and August, when the sea is warm and the air temperatures are higher than 30 degrees Celsius. This is a busy time at sea, in bays, and in marinas. It is an ideal period for a cruising vacation for guests who enjoy crowds and night parties.
September and October are ideal months for all lovers of romantic moments. The weather is still pleasant and warm, although the days are shorter. Prices are lower in this period and there are no big crowds on the islands, just like in the spring pre-season.

Charter types
Bareboat charter.
The most popular and engaging of all our charter options is the bareboat charter . It is a perfect choice for people with some sailing skills who prefer planning out their own itinerary according to their interests. If you decide to go with our bareboat charter option you will enjoy complete passenger privacy on board, individual expense management by the passengers, as well as a free choice of anchorages, marinas, sailing duration etc. This is the most affordable type of boat charter. If you have a valid skippers' license and adequate knowledge of bareboating, you can enjoy an active sailing holiday in Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Italy or in any other country where your license is valid and we have yachts to offer for charter.
Skippered charter
Skippered charter in Croatia is also highly sought after for renting sailing yachts, catamarans and motor boats . You can choose any boat in our yacht charter offer and hire a skipper who will be responsible for the maneuvering of the yacht. The skipper/captain that you want to hire has all the required licenses and nautical skills, as well as good communication skills and a friendly attitude towards guests or passengers. In accordance to your wishes and weather conditions, he will make the best decisions for itinerary, routes, anchorages, etc. Renting a skippered boat in Croatia can be a great choice for a casual, relaxing and carefree sailing vacation.
Crewed charter
Crewed charter in Croatia is the most personalised form of yacht charter, which applies to gulet charter and luxury motor yachts rentals . It is one of the most comfortable and enjoyable types of holiday you can spend in the Adriatic, fully organised according to a client's desires and preferences. Due to the fact that a complete crew (captain, steward, cook) are on board 24 hours a day, guests are provided with a full service at any time. You can choose between half-board, full-board or an all inclusive service, according to your food type preferences as well as any other specific requests you might have. You can experience all of this here with us!
One of the special segments of our charter service is cabin charter on cruises with predetermined cruising routes whether on large or small cruiser ships or on a yacht accommodating less guests, but providing privacy and a more intimate environment.
Yacht charter available in the Adriatic is ideally positioned for the finest sailing experience through all renowned areas and recommended places via proposed routes along the Croatian coastline. Most popular charter bases and sailing areas in Croatia are the following regions: Pula , Rijeka, Zadar , Sibenik, Split and Dubrovnik . Boat rental is possible in any of the thirty marinas in Croatia, where we offer our yacht rental services. All charter bases in Croatia are well connected to the largest European cities, making it easy to realise your Croatian sailing holidays.
Since a significant part of the Mediterranean is in the European Union, this makes its destinations easily accessible to visit. It is easier to rent a boat in coastal destinations like Greece, Italy, France and Spain, while for island destinations like Malta, Sicily, Sardinia and Crete you need to travel further. But whether the departure base is in a large city centre, such as renting a boat from Athens, or one of the islands ( Dodecanese, Cyclades, Sporades or even the Caribbean), you will receive a uniform service because our partners adhere to standards that apply to chartering in the world.
Everyone can enjoy the cruise regardless of the nautical skills they possess. You can easily choose a cabin for rent on one of our cruise ships that sail on predetermined routes and departure dates. Most often such cruises last a week, but there are also shorter cruises lasting 3 days for those who have less time available. The types of cruise ships available to us may be different.
Cruises on wooden ships
We offer cruises on traditional wooden boats that can accommodate from approximately 20 to 40 people accommodated in cabins of two or three. On most of such wooden boats, each cabin has its own private bathroom with toilet and shower, and on the cheaper ones, there is at least a hand basin in the cabin. Sailing on a wooden ship certainly evokes the atmosphere of some ancient times when these same wooden ships carried passengers or precious cargo.
Cruises on modern vessels
This type of cruise offers greater comfort and more content because the ships used are usually slightly larger and newer. The cabins are more spacious, and each must have its own private bathroom with toilet and shower. Also the service on such cruises is richer. Guests can choose between cabins on the lower and upper decks, and on luxury cruisers there are VIP cabins with their own private balconies where you can relax and enjoy the sailing.
Send a charter inquiry or send an email to [email protected] and get the information on which boats are available for rent in Croatia during the desired period. Shortly upon receiving your charter inquiry , we will send you a charter offer, according to your request and specific requirements. We will do our best to find an appropriate boat and make the best charter deal based on your preferences. Once you have selected the boat that best suits your needs, you can book the boat and conclude the lease agreement. More about boat reservation ...
You can send the same charter inquiry if you want to rent a cabin on a cruise . Please write us your requirements, departure date and duration of the cruise, which route you would like to sail and everything else you think is important to you. When we receive your inquiry we will check availability and send you our best cruise offer, based on which you can then book a cabin.

“We tried to make the most of it, but it was far from ideal”
Hey Grigory, thanks for asking. The boat was not in good condition. For example, there were no mooring, deck or motoring lights, so we feared a boat would hit us while we slept, and were not complying with the law while sailing at night. The anchor w…

Sailing Croatia
Without a doubt, Croatia can be described as one of the best kept secrets of the European sailing destinations. Sheltered by the chain of the Dinaric Alps, its endless coastline is covered with pristine beaches and charming medieval towns. A Croatia yacht charter is a wonderful choice whether you are looking for a relaxed sailing vacation with your family, or an exiting sailing adventure with your friends. This region has many secluded islands and islets, along with a wide variety of comfortable marinas. You can choose a boat charter in Croatia with easy hops or longer, more challenging passages.
A Croatian sailing vacation offers a wonderful chance to explore ancient ruins and historic cities, to stay for a night in a secluded anchorage, or to visit traditional fishing villages - all of this in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.
Yachting is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Croatia, thus numerous catamarans and sailboats can be seen all over the coastline. Croatia yacht charters are well developed. Here you will find one of the biggest European chains of modern marinas with berths for yachts and catamarans from 30 to over 100 feet long. Anchorages, moorings, and marinas have all the necessary amenities and are located within a few miles of one another. In addition, while sailing in Croatia you will find many free moorings near family restaurants where you can sample local wines and fresh seafood right on board your own yacht.
The Adriatic coastline can be divided into three counties: Istria, Central Dalmatia and South Dalmatia. Yacht charters in Croatia are available all along the coast. Below are some useful tips for selecting a boat rental in Croatia that will help you find the perfect time and place for your dream sailing trip.
North Croatia Sailing – Istria County
July to the middle of September is the best time for a yacht charter in the northern part of Croatia. During this season the water is warm and most days are sunny, while the prevailing wind is mild mistral. In early spring and late autumn this area may be prone to bora, strong local northeastern winds.
One of the most convenient places to start a North Croatia yacht charter is in Pula, the city closest to the international airport.
During your sailing vacation in the northern region of Istria, we recommend a visit to the former Tito`s state summer residence, his favorite safari park in the Brijuni Islands, to walk under the ancient pines of Mali Losinj and to sail under the picturesque Cres Island bridge. The stunning view of the ancient Rovigno City and its main landmark, St. Euphemia Basilica, can be seen only from the water. If you are looking for a more challenging sailing passage in Croatia, you may like to head from Pula directly to Venice. Within a several hour journey you will find yourself along the Italian coast.
Southern Croatia boat rentals – Dubrovnik County
Since ancient times Croatia has had great strategic importance, thus over the centuries various civilizations and cultures have left part of their legacy and influence, creating a rich and diverse culture.
Sailing along the southern Adriatic Coast of Croatia is recommended for sailors with moderate to good sailing experience. In this part of the country, good weather and fair winds last longer into the season, so you can explore the sights and enjoy the beauty of the Adriatic coast until late autumn. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
Dubrovnik sailing vacations
A yacht charter in Dubrovnik, the southernmost region of Croatia, offers a great variety of comfortable marinas and secluded moorings. The medieval city of Dubrovnik is called the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and because of its long history of maritime trade, has played an important role since ancient times. Today its blend of historic architecture and modern cafes and nightlife make it a fascinating destination.
The rugged coast south of Croatia is a great choice for sailors who value stunning scenery and historical sites more than the distance passed. What could be better than having breakfast on board your yacht near an ancient fortress of an old town
During a yacht charter in Croatia, you won't want to miss a visit to Mljet National Park and the golden island of Sipan. There you will find stunning vistas of the Dalmatian Islands and enjoy a landscape covered with orange and tangerine trees, palms, agaves, Renaissance parks, flower gardens and medieval stone buildings.
Sailing in Split area
The Split area is one of the most popular Croatia yacht charter destinations. Located only 10 minutes from the airport, it attracts sailors from all over the Europe. A Split yacht charter is an easy starting point for a sailing vacation in Croatia, with open access to the most stunning destinations and secluded islands.
Within a 7-day Croatia yacht charter you will be able to visit Hvar, an island popular for its exclusive cafes and bars on the Adriatic, learn how to extract marble on the island of Bra, visit famous Korula island, the birthplace of Marco Polo, and soak up history and culture with Renaissance cathedrals and ancient monuments while walking the ancient streets of Trogir.
When sailing in the Split area do not miss a chance to visit the waterfalls located in Krk National Park, a gorgeous destination any time of year.
Overall, a Croatia yacht charter offers an ideal mix of history, exquisite Mediterranean cuisine and unforgettable sailing opportunities. With excellent infrastructure, short passages and calm waters, Croatia yacht charters rival any other sailing destinations in the world.
It is also a perfect country for those who are looking for an unforgettable sailing adventure in Europe.

If you have a boating license, then feel free to explore the Adriatic Sea at your own leisure without a skipper. However, on Scansail, we also have many yachts that come with a skipper, so no nautical experience is required. Although a skipper will likely increase the price of your rental, there are many advantages to having someone on board with you. For one, a professional skipper will handle all the sailing, docking, and anchoring of the yacht, so you can focus on relaxing. Furthermore, they will be familiar with the surrounding waters, so you can remain comfortable and safe on your journey.
What to do in Croatia
Whether you are interested in a holiday with family, friends or alone, Croatia is an ideal destination for a private yacht charter. The Croatian coastline is one of the largest sailing areas in Europe, stretching across three main regions: Istria, Kvarner, and Dalmatia. Each of these regions holds its own unique flavour that is waiting to be explored. We have compiled a few recommendations to help inspire you on your boating holiday.
In the northern peninsula of the Croatian coast lies the region of Istria. Here, you can visit cities such as Pula and Rovinj. You will be enchanted by the aquamarine waters and the gorgeous architecture. If you want a combination of relaxation and adventure, we suggest you head island hopping through Krk, Rab, Cres and Losin. These laidback islands have a cool and historic feel to them, as they are less crowded than mainland Croatia. Our top suggestion is to navigate along these shores with your private yacht charter and soak up the Croatian sun, hopping from beach to beach until you find your perfect fit.
The Kvarner Gulf, sometimes referred to as the Kvarner Bay, is located between the Croatian mainland and the Istrian peninsula. The region is brought together by the mighty mountains and the subtropical fishing villages near the shores. This region of Croatia is often referred to as the Caribbean of Europe because the waters are calm and clear with white sands. The largest port here is Rijeka, boasting a lively city and a 20-kilometre stretch of seaside resorts in the Opatija Riviera.
Finally, the largest and most popular boating region in Croatia is Dalmata. Within this area, there are three main cities: Zadar, Dubrovnik, and Split.
Zadar is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Croatia, making it filled with history and culture. If you want to disembark from your private yacht charter, you can wander through the streets to see Medieval architecture or head to Plitvice and Krka national parks for some hiking.
Next is Dubrovnik, located on the southern coast of the country. This city is known to be “the pearl of the Adriatic” for its natural beauty and proximity to other destinations. The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so be sure to check out the Old Town to admire the charming streets. If it gets too crowded, take your private yacht charter to the islands of Lokrum or Otočić Grebeni for secluded beaches and coves!
Finally, Split is Croatia’s second-largest city, and is scattered with countless beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, water sports, and, of course, sailing! Start in Split and then embark on a journey in the Adriatic Sea to visit nearby islands such as Brac, Hvar, Lestovo, Trogir, and Vis. With so much to see and do, there’s no doubt that you’ll have an unforgettable boating holiday!

Croatia is a vacationer’s dream! With so many Croatian islands around the mainland, it is also the perfect place to set off on a luxury yacht charter for a few days or a motorboat ride for a few hours. During your time here, you can lounge around on white-sand beaches, sail along the stunning coastline lined with olive groves, or explore the many national parks.
During your Croatia yacht charter, sail over to Krka National Park and the Kornati National Park, where you can visit the Kornati Islands, the idyllic island paradise. Alternatively, you can take your Croatian boat rental a little further down the coast for some island hopping in the Dalmatian Islands, which are dotted all along the Dalmatian Coast.
Explore Croatia in one of our many yacht rentals and have a memorable sailing experience! Whether you choose to set sail during the high season in July and August, or another, less crowded time of the year, Croatia is always a great idea!
Where to sail in Croatia?
From luxurious Hvar to quiet Lastovo, Croatian islands and the mainland offer an abundance of opportunities to sail around and discover the country from a new perspective. In fact, it is widely known that the best way to fully take advantage of your time in Croatia is by boat. With a private yacht, you’ll be able to move around at your own speed and visit the exact locations you desire.
Choosing which locations to visit during your charter can prove to be a bit overwhelming due to the plethora of options.
To help you out, we’ve compiled a short list of places we deem unmissable.
- Kornat – located north of Split, Kornat is the largest of the Kornati archipelago. To get through the national park you will need to purchase a ticket which will give you access to some of the best boating experiences in Croatia. Here you’ll be able to dive into the water from your boat and discover the coral reefs hidden beneath the surface. Make sure to pass by the small family-owned restaurants dotted around the islands.
- Hvar – on this loved island you’ll find a fancier side to Croatia. Home to high-end hotels and luxurious restaurants, Hvar is definitely the place to go for those looking for a lively night scene. If you’re looking for something a bit quieter, you can head over to Hvar Town where the streets are lined with glassy marbles and gorgeous restaurants.
- Mljet National Park – located in the southernmost part of the Dalmatian Islands, Mljet offers almost an exclusive and private-feeling experience. Anchor your sailing yacht in Pomena or Polače and spend the day kayaking and sunbathing on the beach.
Other locations that are great to visit during your luxury yacht charter in Croatia are:
- Lavsa Island
How much does it cost to rent a boat in Croatia?
The price of a boat rental in Croatia can vary depending on many different factors. Some of these factors include the duration of your charter, the amenities you have on board, and the number of people that will be on the boat. It is important to note that some amenities do come at an extra cost, as well as hiring a captain and choosing to rent a crewed yacht.
The harbors in Croatia
Your charter experience in Croatia cannot be completed until you’ve also had the opportunity to explore the small islands and mainland on foot. When you’re ready to dock your boat, be sure to have a few harbors and marinas in mind so you don't spend too long searching for a spot to dock your boat.
Here are some harbors in the area:
- Vela Luka Town
- Harbor Baro
- Veli Dervnik
- Korcula Town
- Komiza, Vis
- Trogir, Town Harbor
- Zaklopotica, Lastovo
- Vis Town, Viska Luka
What can you see/do in Croatia?
Croatia is home to many historic sites and untouched nature, making it a highly sought-out location for vacation. To get the most out of your trip to this Eastern European country, we recommend staying for a week minimum and renting a boat for a couple of days.
Some of our favorite sports in Croatia are:
- Dubrovnik – Located on the southern coast of Croatia, Dubrovnik is one of the most popular cities. The city’s old historic town was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and should be on any visitor’s list. During your time here, discover the beautiful coastline and sandy beaches of Dubrovnik and escape the crowded beaches by heading to nearby islands such as Lokrum or Otočić Grebeni.
- Split – The city of Split is the second largest in Croatia and is known for its breathtaking views overlooking the Mediterranean. The rugged coastline in this area offers many hidden beaches that are only accessible by boat, making them exclusive and secluded. Similar to Dubrovnik, you can either stay around the main city or venture off to nearby islands such as Brač and Hvar.
- Zadar – Situated in the Adriatic Sea, Zadar is the oldest continuously inhabited Croatian city. It is full of history and culture, and breathtaking national parks. Typically, visitors tend to go to Zadar as a starting point to then visit the smaller islands in the area. Here you can snorkel and scuba dive in gorgeous crystal-clear waters.
Renting a boat with a skipper
With Océans Evasions, it is possible to charter a yacht in Croatia with or without a skipper. If you’re planning to go on a bareboat charter, make sure you have all the legally required documents up-to-date and on you at all times; Croatia is typically strict with its boating laws. In fact, in Croatia, there are three different types of sailing licenses, each one authorizing the operation of different types of boats. You should look for a yacht charter in Croatia without a skipper only if you are an experienced sailor in possession of the appropriate license. On the other hand, if you want a more relaxing holiday, however, you should instead opt for a crewed yacht hire in Croatia complete with a skipper, who will take care of the more technical aspects of sailing and show you around the country.
What boat should I rent?
The type of boat you decide to rent for your charter experience will set the tone for the rest of your charter experience. When choosing a boat, many factors should be considered, such as how many people you will have onboard, the type of activities you want to do, the length of your rental, and other factors. If you have any questions about the boat, make sure to contact the boat owner directly!
When is the best time to go?
The climate in Croatia is varied across the country, with a continental climate further inland, but a mostly Mediterranean climate along the Adriatic coastline. Peak season runs from July to August, with the best weather and temperatures usually in the high 70s and 80s. However, during the summer months, tourism is booming in Croatia, so it is recommended to visit in the Spring or Autumn when the weather is still good, but the beaches are less packed.
