This is why we decided to select our top 15 French sailboats (and catamarans) for 2022; we choose them between the new ones and the slightly older ones. And you? What’s your favorite model?

Allures 51.9.

The Allures 51.9 innovates with its full-beam aft owner’s cabin. This model disrupts the codes of the yard also outside with its cockpit of 6 meters long with sunbath and swim platform for comfort; the navigation space can be protected by a hardtop to navigate in any security. The boat has a length of 51.9 feet (15.8 meters) and a beam (width) of 15.4 feet (4.7 meters). It is equipped with a fixed keel and a composite hull, which provides good stability and seaworthiness. The Allures 51.9 is available in a variety of configurations, including a three-cabin layout with a spacious owner’s cabin and two guest cabins, or a two-cabin layout with a larger owner’s cabin and a smaller guest cabin. Amel 50

With this 15-meter unit , the La Rochelle shipyard opens the Amel concept to a new category of clients, thanks to more accessible dimensions. While they are not abandoning the emblematic ketch design of the La Rochelle shipyard, Amel has chosen the sloop for this unit. However, this is not a new format as such, as a number of sloops have already left the shipyard in the past. Among the innovations on this new model, the choice of a straight, powerful bow is a break from the shipyard’s habits. The waterline is extended to improve performance, making the front part of the boat more spacious. Beneteau First 36

The Beneteau First 36 has a mission to bridge the gap between high-tech development in the world of racing and mainstream racer-cruisers. To be specific, even the standard version of First 36 will fully plane in a moderate breeze. Positioning six winches, steering wheels, and other deck gear was thoroughly tested on several mock-ups and a full-scale testbed sailboat to enable the sailing experience promised on the previous page.

Details like an offshore hatch on the foredeck or removable cockpit benches show the priority of sailing functionality over style used throughout the design process. Standard aluminium rig and cast iron keel were chosen to keep the boat accessible. Yet, Sam Manuard brought his experience and focused on perfecting the shape and design of these two key ingredients for a great sailing experience. Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 380 top 15 French sailboats

Designed by naval architect Marc Lombard with interior styling by Piaton Bercault, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 380 complete with the award-winning walk-around deck, follows the same design trend of its predecessors the Sun Odyssey 410, 440, and 490. On the interior, while the design features the hallmarks of this line, careful consideration was given to the perception of space and the simplification of lines, with the objective of creating sensations of peace and calm. For this fast cruising yacht , the shipyard has once again entrusted the Finot-Conq naval architecture firm to apply the very successful design of the Pogo 36 to a larger model. As for the hull, the Pogo 44 features a wide, chine hull, which guarantees high performance in planning and comfort when sailing at all speeds. The bow has a large volume, which is reminiscent of the Pogo 3. The keel of the Pogo 44, still made with a vacuum infused Monolithic Fiberglass veil and a lead ballast, receives the same hydraulic system as the Pogo 12.50 or Pogo 50. Pogo official website .

The French yard is well known not only among ocean sailors but also to those who love short-handed sailing and are looking for seaworthy and easily driven boats, both safe and comfortable. This last aspect is where Fora Marine has made great progress in the last few years, shedding some of the spartan image that characterized their products for many years.

What has not changed, and what is still the RM range’s defining characteristic, is the twin-chined hull, made of Okumé plywood impregnated with epoxy resin (the deck is in fiberglass sandwich). Below the hull, the yard offers two options, a single deep keel or double shoal draft keels. The RM are designed by Marc Lombard , probably one of the architects most able to transform the fashionable chine into an important element in cruising design. The new  Bali  4.4 offers interesting living spaces, both inside and outside. With an optimized sail plan, sailing should gain in performance. The French shipyard is constantly developing its range and, after the 5.4, the fleet’s flagship, and the recent 4.2 and 4.6, the Bali 4.4 joins this renewed family. The Bali 4.4 replaces the 4.3 and 4.5 from the Bali catamaran range. With the same origins (designer Olivier Poncin, architect Xavier Fay and Lasta Design for the interiors) the Bali 4.4 has the DNA of the last models with slender bows, a silhouette lightened by the presence of long hull portholes and vast living spaces. The latter are divided between the spacious rigid forward cockpit between the two hulls, the flying bridge with its saloon and solarium, and finally the tilt-and-turn door joining together the cockpit and saloon. Excess 15 (bluewater sailing configuration)

The  bluewater  sailing configuration of the  Excess  15 consists of twin  Deep Blue  50 kW electric saildrives in cooperation with ZF, two Deep Blue high-capacity lithium-ion BMW i3 batteries, and a full energy management system for harvesting green energy and charging the boat’s batteries while underway. On the yacht’s long test sail, the hydro generation system easily provided enough electricity to power one hundred percent of the onboard hotel loads at a cruising speed of seven to eight knots. Adding solar photovoltaics, planned for phase two of the Excess 15 with Deep Blue Hybrid project , will extend the system’s range and provide even more hybrid power and comfort on board. Fountaine Pajot Isla 40

The 12m Isla 40 embodies the spirit of French yard  Fountaine Pajot  and is distinguished by invigorating lines. The catamaran features inverted bows and a particular saloon where the chart table is accessible from the entrance. Her performance is complemented by optimal liveability with the option of three or four double cabins plus the possibility of a skipper’s cabin if required. Olivier Racoupeau Yacht Design , in collaboration with the engineers at Fountaine Pajot, has designed this new model, taking inspiration from the strengths of the other models in the range, and giving this 40-foot catamaran even more space and storage. The Garcia Explocat 52 is custom made with aluminum hulls and structures and fiberglass composite deck roofs. Aluminum shipbuilding has been Garcia’s strength for over 40 years. In Normandy (France), the Garcia shipyard has built more than 300 monohulls, catamarans, and trawlers up to 102 feet in length. Garcia Explocat 52 is specially designed for owners who want to walk in high latitudes and / or in the tropics. With nearly 6,000 units produced since the French shipyard began in 1987, Lagoon remains by far the world leader in the multihull market. To celebrate this international success, the shipyard launched last year the Lagoon 55. Designed by the VPLP team on the naval architecture side, this 16.56-meter long and 9-meter wide multihull was designed by Patrick le Quément for the exterior and Nauta Design for the interior. This 55’ model is equipped with an extra-large 25 m2 (269 sq ft) cockpit, including a large dining area; two large loungers at the stern, a comfortable deck chair in the shade of the roof; as well as a bar area perfectly equipped to ensure comfort on board.  Lagoon official website .

The redesigned roof enhances the streamlined silhouette and “Open Concept” of this award-winning yacht. The remodeled structure with large windows has optimized the helmsman’s 360-degree view from both helm stations. A skylight window in the cockpit roof provides the helmsman a clear view of the mainsail’s trim. The lounge area with a U-shaped sofa can now be found on the port side. The Outremer 55, a liveaboard catamaran, is easy to maneuver, whether short-handed or even solo. The Outremer 55 features twin helms but they can be switched from on deck in a new double helm seat with full outdoor visibility for fun sailing, or switched down into the cockpit for fully protected sailing in bad conditions. The Outremer’s design team from VPLP have used CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to reduce drag ad forward resistance, while allowing for higher carrying capacity hen blue water cruising. At just 13.5t and combined sail area of 172 sm (Mainsail & Genoa) sailing in light winds will be a joy, but if needed the twin 60hp diesel motors are ready to engage. Outremer official website .

Windelo 50 Adventure

Designed in partnership with the architects Christophe Barreau and Frédéric Neuman, this fast blue-water cruising catamaran features an electric propulsion system that includes great hydro-generation facilities, solar panels, and the possibility to work under generator when it’s a necessity. With the development of an eco-composite in basalt fiber and PET foam, this is definitely an eco-friendly boat. Behind the mast, the forward cockpit has two helm stations protected from the wind and spray, a good view of the sails and the bows, and all the running rigging at hand. At anchor, the cockpit can be well protected from the elements and opens up to the stern. The self-tacking facilitates maneuvers also with limited crew; the lifting daggerboards are placed at the center of the hull to optimize their hydrodynamic performance. Windelo official website .

La nostra analisi

Sembra quasi banale dirlo, ma in una fascia di mercato così ampia come quella che andiamo ad analizzare, da 12 a 24 metri, c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta. Eppure, fino a settembre di quest’anno, non avremmo mai alzato l’asticella fino a sfiorare gli ottanta piedi di lunghezza. A costringerci a farlo è stato il lancio del Lagoon Seventy7, il gigante firmato dal cantiere francese che, nonostante il grande tasso di personalizzazione, viene indicato come un modello lavorato quasi in serie.

SOLUZIONI PER LUNGHE NAVIGAZIONI Ci sono comunque diverse caratteristiche che accomunano praticamente tutti i modelli in questione, ovvero l’attenzione all’autonomia di navigazione. è infatti più precisamente nella fascia tra quattordici e diciotto metri che si concentrano la maggior parte degli esemplari scelti da chi si prepara a lunghe navigazioni. In particolare, le grandi aree di calpestio presenti consentono di montare una metratura di pannelli solari in grado di fornire una notevole quantità di energia agli impianti di bordo. E qualche modello monta persino sistemi di raccolta dell’acqua piovana… In pratica, se guardiamo alla totalità del mercato, c’è chi ha puntato sul lusso e chi a scelto di dare priorità alle performance, ma tutti hanno in comune questa voglia di non rientrare in porto.

DERIVA MOBILE Sì O NO? Eccola una delle principali, se non addirittura la principale, domande che ci si pone quando si supera una certa metratura (diciamo dai quattordici metri in su). Le differenze tra i cantieri che hanno scelto di puntare sulle performance e quelli che hanno prediletto la massima abitabilità aumentano : non stiamo parlando solamente della questione “derive mobili o fisse”, ma anche dei piani velici che diventano importanti. Rispetto a pochi anni fa, dal punto di vista tecnico si è lavorato molto sulla semplificazione delle manovre (ah, il benedetto easy sailing!) e su una maggiore concentrazione di pesi al centro, che ha permesso di realizzare modelli equilibrati, capaci di affrontare anche mari impegnativi.

LA SUPREMAZIA FRANCESE Pochi dubbi sul fatto che a farla da padroni nel mondo dei catamarani abitabili siano i nostri cugini d’Oltralpe. Lagoon , Fountaine Pajot e Nautitech , con il recente inserimento di Bali, sono i cantieri che si sono principalmente concentrati sul segmento dei “crocierosi”, dando la priorità allo sviluppo degli spazi e delle comodità. In particolare, tutti puntano su pozzetti interamente dedicati al relax, riparati da sovrastrutture che spesso accolgono i già citati pannelli solari. In più, l’abbattimento delle separazioni tra interno ed esterno hanno consentito di ottenere metrature calpestabili inimmaginabili persino su un catamarano di solo pochi anni fa. Sempre dalla Francia arrivano poi modelli come i Catana , ma anche Outremer (impossibile non citare la particolarità di avere la doppia timoneria, intesa come ruota e barra sullo stesso esemplare) e Privilège , che puntano invece maggiormente su prestazioni e marinità.

IL RESTO DEL MONDO La costante fetta di mercato che i catamarani stanno conquistando in tutto il mondo ha spinto diversi cantieri a puntare proprio su questo segmento. Arriva dalla Cina (ma ha un’anima in parte neozelandese) HH Catamarans , che sta lanciando sul mercato una serie di modelli da crociera particolarmente sportivi, pronti a battersi con i mitici Gunboat . A proposito, quest’ultimo cantiere, dopo alcune peripezie, è entrato a far parte del gruppo francese Grand Large Yachting e punta al rilancio a breve. Sono invece costruiti in Polonia i Sunreef , ma qui facciamo fatica a parlare di modelli di serie, perché il tasso di personalizzazione è altissimo e può essere più corretto definirli dei semicustom.

E L’ITALIA? C’è molta attesa per il varo, previsto a breve, del primo Ice Cat 61 di Ice Yachts, disegnato da Enrico Contreas, il papà dei cat italiani. Il suo carattere sportivo è facilmente percepibile dall’ampio uso del carbonio, che viene infuso con resina epossidica col sistema del sottovuoto per scafo, coperta e paratie, garantendo estrema rigidità strutturale e robustezza con il minimo peso. Tra le novità sviluppate dal cantiere ci sono un sistema innovativo per la scotta randa, senza i pesi legati alle soluzioni idrauliche attuali, e la propulsione ibrida.

Buongiorno. Mi piacciono molto i catamarani. Alcune osservazioni personali . Noto che la potenza non è elevata; Credo che si possa averne di più per consentire maggiori velocità di crociera, magari sui 15 nodi. La prua dovrebbe essere rinforzata con alluminio o altro. Non so se sia garantita inaffondabilita’ . Forse bisognerebbe ridurre la tendenza al delfinaggio , magari modificando parte anteriore scafi. L ‘ autonomi

The St. Francis 44 design has been proven as a seaworthy, world-cruising vessel, which has safely completed numerous circumnavigations and open ocean passages. Extended version of original 43 foot 1991 Lavranos design. A St Francis 44 won the Cape to Rio race in 1994. The design has a low center of gravity and little windage, with weight concentrated low and amidships. The galley-down design allows a huge wrap-around navigation station as well as large settee and extensive storage space in the main salon. Boasts the easiest and most accessible deck mountings and fittings of almost any vessel. Chain plates can be removed, and stanchions and cleats can be re-bedded without emptying lockers or dismantling cabinetry. Tooling purchased by Knysna and deck redone for the Knysna 44 starting in 2004.

S/V Majestic is a 1999 St Francis 44 Mk II catamaran, for sale by owner. She is a true blue water cruising boat, built in South Africa and sailed across the Atlantic on her own hulls in 1999. This boat has never been in charter, and has been meticulously maintained full-time and continuously upgraded by her second owner of 20 years.

Description

The St Francis 50 was designed by legendary South African boat builder Duncan Lethbridge (now sadly no longer with us). This is one of those classic catamaran designs that has steadily evolved over the years. The newest version, the Mk II, is one of the best long distance cruisers around. Other notable South African designs include the Voyage 480 , the Kinetic 62 and the Knysna 500.

The new model is built with resin- infused molding, Corecell foam core and the plenty of carbon fiber in high-stress areas. This classic is now both lighter and stiffer. The best got better as they claim on their marketing material, and it is a believable claim.

The whole concept has been designed to provide a comfortable platform on the water in a safe businesslike package that is no slouch through the waves, something that the South Africans seem to excel at, with the likes of Balance (higher up the price range) and Leopard (more in the production boat category). And the quality of the finish is a step above production boats like the Nautitech 47 and the Lagoons.

St Francis Catamarans only produce a handful of boats every year, and because of the smaller production numbers, the quality of these boats is from the top drawer. Especially when you compare them to the higher volume manufacturers like Fountaine Pajot catamarans , Leopard and Lagoon.

  • Safety is ingrained into the design (there are handholds everywhere)

  • Lack of forward facing ventilation in the saloon
  • There is no self tacking jib. You might be able to customise this set up, but the sail plan has been designed for a larger genoa with more traditional jib sheets run through tracks on the coachroof. Having said that, all the lines lead back to the helm, she’s well set up for short handed sailing, and you will have more control over your sail shape in different conditions.

This boat comes with a very functional cockpit in the starboard bulkhead position and it has been designed for maximum protection from the elements with a hard dodger over the raised helm. Visibility is good and you can flip the glass hatch forward open for ventiliation on fine days. Or if it’s chucking down, drop the clear enclosures down and flick on the windscreen wiper! All the controls are here and lines are fed back to the helm.

This connects to a spacious aft deck that lead onto wide side decks and onto the foredeck from which you can access the coachroof easily via molded steps from the foredeck. There are handrails everywhere for safety: top marks on that score.

Living Space

Heading inside, you have a U-shaped galley to port and plenty of storage. A big sliding window connects to the cockpit aft and a cosy nav station on the port side across from the dining table with its wraparound sofa to starboard. The forward facing ventilation in the saloon is limited, we would have like to see more options in that area.

This is a fantastic boat for entertaining. The hulls hold four comfortable berths with plenty of space left over for the heads and showers which are well above average in size.

Engine access is under the aft berths which is unusual. This means it is very easy to get to the the engines for maintenance (the berths just swing up) and this configuration is much safer than accessing via the transoms (plus the weight is moved forward). The downside is potential noise and heat in the aft cabins under way. That said, on a cat, you can alternate engines to minimise noise in the sleeping hull, and hopefully you’ll be sailing anyway as this boat gets going quickly in lighter air.

The cabins are comfortable and light and what really sets the St Francis apart from the competition is the amount of storage space. It’s everywhere. The guest cabin forward (port) is athwartships.

Instead of davits, the St Francis 50 comes with a boom crane: an extendable beam to get your tender up with (or to lift anything else for that matter). It’s a neat solution.

What the St Francis does really well is storage. If you want to stow toys away like SUPS and dive gear, there’ll be a locker for your gear. The finish throughout the boat is very high quality compared to some of the production boats you will see out there. That’s what you get with a St Francis: it’s a semi-custom build. I love the way you can easily access the forepeaks from the forward cabins (even more storage or an extra berth?)

Sailing & Motoring

It might look like a solid cruising cat, but this boat moves. In lighter air, you will be approaching true wind speeds thanks to those shaped hulls. She has a powerful sail plan for a relatively light 50′ boat  (12.5 tonnes).

And under power, she will slice through the water at up to 9 knots at full steam ahead. Alternate the engines and you will still move at 6 to 7 knots using half the fuel.

How much is a St Francis 50 Catamaran? Well, you wouldn’t call them budget boats, but you get a lot for your money- these are high quality semi-custom boats after all. It will depend on the options you for, but a figure of around €1.1 million puts you in the ballpark for a new boat. If you can find one on the second hand market, you’ll discover that they hold their price well. Expect to pay €750k and up for a decent example.

It’s not all going to be hard work and learning! Meeting in Paris, the journey starts off with some shopping & sightseeing (and a few “selfies” at some of the most iconic landmarks in Paris). We then travel into the countryside by luxury bus down to the coast and end up in the city of La Rochelle, a gourgeous old walled coastal city situated in the southwest part of France. 

We will meet in Paris on October 30th, 2016, where we will stay in a charming and elegant 4-star hotel located near the Arc de Triomphe and Place de l’Etoile in the chic 16th arrondissement. The hotel is a couple of minutes walk from the world famous Avenue des Champs-Elysées.

In La Rochelle we will stay in an exquisite hotel, located in the heart of the old town, between the cathedral and the 19th-century market hall, only an 8-minute stroll from the Vieux Port. We will dine as a group mostly but you are also free to explore on your own. We will send you suggestions for some fabulous restaurants in La Rochelle.

Finally, we are putting a wine tour together in the medieval wine village of Saint Emilion, a Unesco World Heritage Site. It will be a great and enjoyable adventure and with three factory tours and seminars in between, it will be very busy but informative and will be well worth your time!

Negli ultimi anni sono sempre di più le persone che per fare crociere e vacanze in barca scelgono di viaggiare in catamarano . Merito del grande comfort offerto da questa tipologia di imbarcazioni, le loro doti marine, gli allestimenti curati e i grandi volumi sia in coperta che all’interno.

Comodi, maestosi e sicuri , i catamarani, negli ultimi anni, hanno conosciuto una vasta diffusione e popolarità, soprattutto tra coloro che li scelgono per le crociere a vela o per una vacanza in barca. Senza contare che la storia della navigazione e in particolare quella sportiva, come traversate, giri del mondo e record a vela deve molto a questa tipologia di imbarcazioni.

Vediamo perché queste barche piacciono così tanto, i vantaggi che offrono in navigazione e all’ormeggio e le differenze che presentano rispetto ai tradizionali monoscafi.

Viaggiare in catamarano

I catamarani da crociera hanno fatto la loro prima comparsa nel mondo nautico nei primi Anni 80 e riprendevano il concetto del doppio scafo dalle antiche canoe polinesiane.

Erano barche lente, essenziali ma molto marine, tanto che in molti ci hanno fatto il giro del mondo. I multiscafi moderni come li conosciamo adesso sono apparsi invece solo alla fine degli Anni 80 e nel decennio successivo hanno raggiunto davvero ottimi standard di comfort, prestazioni e sicurezza.

Sono stati i francesi, soprattutto, a portare avanti la loro ricerca progettuale, le forme, l’ergonomia, gli allestimenti curati.

Il loro terreno di collaudo privilegiato sono stati i Caraibi, ma anche le acque della Florida e quelle della Polinesia  dove da sempre le società di charter hanno proposto vacanze, trasferimenti e traversate a bordo di queste barche molto apprezzate dai clienti per una serie di vantaggi. Dalle isole caraibiche ben presto i catamarani si sono diffusi anche in Mediterraneo e ad oggi rimangono uno dei mezzi preferiti per chi ama le tranquille veleggiate ricche di comfort.

Meno oscillazioni a bordo e grande stabilità

La caratteristica principale di viaggiare in catamarano è che a differenza di una classica barca a vela, questa imbarcazione è dotata di due scafi. Tutto quindi a bordo si raddoppia in termini di spazio, comfort e stabilità. Partiamo proprio da quest’ultima. I catamarani sono barche che non avendo bulbo sono appoggiati in acqua, ci scivolano sopra al contrario di un monoscafo che fende l’acqua.

Il risultato è che a bordo di un catamarano si sentono meno le oscillazioni, il beccheggio e il rollio , si ha la sensazione di non inclinarsi troppo e si soffre meno il mal di mare. Essendo poi alti sulla superficie del mare sono barche più panoramiche, ariose e danno un grande senso di sicurezza. Questo rende le vacanze in catamarano adatte anche a chi soffre un po’ di mal di mare.

Prestazioni a vela

Sempre in termini di stabilità, un catamarano è in grado di tenere tutta la superficie velica esposta al vento senza sbandare e soprattutto anche con vento forte è quasi impossibile che si ribalti. La stessa sicurezza la offre in presenza di onde frangenti che se prese al traverso semplicemente spingono la barca sull’acqua facendola scarrocciare ma non scuffiare , visto che sotto agli scafi non c’è un bulbo che agisce da perno e innesca il ribaltamento. Nel caso estremo di un ribaltamento, infine, un catamarano è costruito in materiali leggeri e di fatto è inaffondabile .

In termini di prestazioni a vela, i catamarani sono leggermente penalizzati nelle andature di bolina rispetto a un monoscafo e avendo meno vela ed essendo più pesanti sono anche barche più lente. L’obiettivo di una crociera tuttavia non è la velocità, ma navigare in sicurezza d e arrivare a destinazione nelle condizioni migliori. Un buon catamarano moderno in ogni caso può tenere un angolo di 55-60 gradi rispetto al vento reale con una v elocità di crociera che si attesta tra i 6-8 nodi , più che dignitosa.

Viaggiare in catamarano: Il lusso dello spazio

Il vero punto di forza di viaggiare in catamarano, però, è lo spazio a bordo , sia all’esterno che negli interni. In coperta troviamo un pozzetto enorme dove si trova la postazione del timoniere con tutti i rinvii di manovra. Il pozzetto è in genere protetto da una struttura che assicura riparo dal sole, pioggia o vento all’equipaggio. A poppa ci sono comodi gradini che agevolano l’ingresso a bordo, così come la discesa a mare per il bagno o la movimentazione del tender.

Su molti modelli a prua c’è una struttura rigida o altrimenti il classico trampolino intervallato da camminamenti per agevolare le manovre del cambio di vele o per l’utilizzo del salpancora per ormeggiarsi. Stendersi sul trampolino a pelo d’acqua mentre la barca è in navigazione regala grandi emozioni.

Luminoso e panoramico

Di solito il pozzetto e il quadrato su un catamarano si trovano allo stesso livello e sono collegati da una normale porta a battente o scorrevole. Gli spazi del quadrato sono enormi e normalmente questo locale è dotato di ampie finestrature panoramiche che permettono anche dall’interno un controllo del traffico intorno e la possibilità di dialogare con chi è nel pozzetto o alle manovre. Il tavolo da carteggio è subito all’ingresso del quadrato, così come la cucina ampia e confortevole: il frigorifero e il piano di cottura sono come quelli che si possono trovare in una casa e non ci sono accorgimenti particolari per evitare che piatti e scodelle possano cadere sul paiolo.

Dal quadrato si accede ai due scafi tramite alcuni scalini. Qui si trovano le cabine le cui dimensioni e l’altezza sono straordinarie. In genere un catamarano di 40 piedi offre 4 cabine doppie e due o tre bagni, mentre uno di 44 piedi ha sempre 4 cabine doppie, ma i bagni diventano 4, più due altri due letti a prua. Le versioni armatoriali prevedono uno scafo interamente dedicato agli armatori in cui oltre al bagno di grande larghezza c’è un ampio guardaroba e un piccolo studio. Infine un altro aspetto importante del catamarano è la privacy, poiché le cabine si trovano in ambienti separati e non comunicanti e a questo a volte questo non è un particolare da poco.

Insomma fare una crociera a vela a bordo di un catamarano è sicuramente più confortevole durante la navigazione e negli ormeggi in rada. Si gode di tanto spazio per rilassarsi, prendere il sole e stivare attrezzature extra, come Sup, canoe, tavole da windsurf e giochi acquatici. Tutti gli interni sono spaziosi e la sensazione è quella di essere su una casa galleggiate e panoramica. Le cabine sono grandi e riservate. E in generale è ideale per chi vuole vivere il mare anche per la prima volta perché ci si adatta prima e le emozioni sono altrettanto appaganti.

Day 1: check-in.

Sabato pomeriggio a partire dalle 17:00 verrete accolti dal vostro equipaggio presso il  Marina Bas du Fort on Grande-Terre  per prendere posto nella vostra cabina e conoscere il resto dell'equipaggio e prendere confidenza con la barca. Molleremo gli ormeggi per una breve navigazione di mezz'ora fino a  Îlet du Gosier sulla costa ovest dell'isola: una location conosciuta per le tranquille spiagge e le spettacolari barriere coralline. Inizierete la crociera in un luogo fantastico dove fare snorkeling e immersioni sul relitto di un vecchio rimorchiatore affondato. Ceneremo e passeremo la notte alla fonda.

Dopo colazione isseremo le vele per due ore verso Marie-Galante, l'isola dei cento mulini a vento di cui 70 ancora ben visibili al giorno d'oggi. Approderemo a Anse Canot sulla costa ovest: una delle più belle spiagge di tutta l'isola. Dovrete assaggiare il rhum locale, uno dei migliori al mondo! Il pranzo sarà servito a bordo e per chi ha acquistato il pacchetto escursioni, nel pomeriggio sarà organizzato un giro in bus dell'isola di tre ore in cui visiterete le imponenti rovine dell'antica fabbrica di zucchero, alcuni mulini a vento e il castello che ci ricorda l'antica grandezze e potenza dell'isola. Inclusa anche la visita al museo e alla distilleria di rhum. La cena verrà servita a bordo. 

Dopo colazione navigheremo per circa quattro ore verso Dominica, detta l'isola più naturalistica dei Caraibi: una delle meno sviluppate isole di tutto l'arcipelago e famosa per le sue incontaminate montagne di origine vulcaniche. Arriveremo a Portsmouth per continuare ad esplorare l'isola una volta sbrigate le pratiche doganali. Vi faremo scoprire il Cabrits National Park con le sue spiagge di sabbia bianca e i lunghi sentieri. Per chi ha acquistato il pacchetto escursioni è prevista una gita sull'Indian River con la barca a remi e un trekking nelle piantagioni di frutta fino alla pittoresca cittadina di Portsmouth.

Dopo la colazione servita a bordo, la giornata sarà dedicata al relax in spiaggia e alla scoperta di Dominica. L'escursione facoltativa prevede il giro in bus dell'isola con la guida che vi porterà lungo la  North Road, Amerindian Reserve Kalinago e il Parco Nazionale con le impressionanti cascate di Emerald Pool che si riversano nella foresta tropicale incontaminata. Il pranzo sarà servito in un ristorante nella foresta prima di scoprire le famose cascate di Trafalgar, alte 60 metri. Il rientro a bordo avverrà non prima di un giro nella Capitale Roseau e della costa occidentale dell'isola. Cena a bordo.

Oggi navigheremo verso la costa occidentale di Guadalupa, pranzando all'ancora prima di dirigerci verso la Cousteau Reserve di fronte a Piegeon Island: qui potrete dedicarvi allo snorkeling per scoprire la barriera corallina, variopinti pesci tropicali, tartarughe e se siete fortunati anche delle balene. Questa è una delle mete migliori al mondo per le immersioni, ceneremo alla fonda sotto le stelle.

Dopo la colazione potrete dedicarvi ai tuffi e alle attività acquatiche dal catamarano: relax, nuoto, snorkeling e il SUP. In questa giornata per gli appassionati delle immersioni ci sarà la possibilità di dedicarsi al diving presso le locali scuole di immersione. Dopo pranzo navigheremo per circa tre ore verso l'arcipelago di Saintes con le sue otto isole, per ormeggiare a Pain de Sucre.

Dopo l'abbondante colazione faremo rotta verso  Terre de Haut Bay, una delle due isole disabitate dell'arcipelago: andremo alla fonda nella baia e con il tender potrete andare a terra alla scoperta dell'isola: location perfetta per il nuoto e lo snorkeling in spiagge deserte e bianchissime dall'acqua trasparente. L'escursione facoltativa prevede il giro del paese e del Forte Napoleone che ora è un rinomato museo da cui si gode di una bellissima vista essendo adagiato su una alta collina che domina l'isola e la baia. Nel pomeriggio un po' di relax, navigheremo verso  Îlet du Gosier per la cena a bordo.

CAPTAIN: ADAM DREFFIN Adam was born in the Exumas aboard the boat of his parents. He was a real water baby. He shot his first lobster at age 6. As a youth, Adam would disappear into hidden coves with his brother, trolling for fish while handling a sailing dinghy. He explored everywhere and is familiar with every island. His passion for the Bahamas is evident. Adam´s parents, along with his younger brother Warren, all set off for a world cruise on their sailing boat once the boys reached teenage years, so Adam is also very widely travelled to many exotic parts of the world. When they reached Australia the boys went to school and college there, whilst their parents continued their cruise back home to the Bahamas. Summers during school, Adam captained catamarans for Broadreach Sailing School in the French West Indies with high school kids aboard. He´s also captained large yachts in New England and delivered vessels from the Mediterranean. He has run charters aboard Rubicon for several years in Exumas, Bahamas. Adam holds an MCA Master of Yachts 200 Tons. In addition to being a highly skilled captain, he is an avid sportsman on the water. He kite-surfs, windsurfs and relishes catching game fish while trolling between islands. He is also certified as a Sivananda yoga instructor. CHEF/HOSTESS REBECCA GARCIA: Rebecca Garcia’s friends call her Becky, and describe her as good fun, lively and a tireless worker. She’s also an extraordinary cook with an extensive repertoire of recipes. She has run many kitchens, large and small, worked in five-star restaurants and cooked aboard yachts for some 25 years. It all began in the kitchens of her two Grandmothers, one English and one Spanish, when she was so small she couldn’t reach the table without a stool. Becky spent her childhood in London, her teens and early 20s in Donegal, on Ireland’s rugged, northwest coast, and summers with Dad and his family in Spain. She did a lot of amazing things. Her “very hardy life” on a small Irish island in the North Atlantic required commuting by row boat in very cold, rough water. She worked with the Irish Civil Defense ambulance emergency team. She helped a master boat builder construct a Viking ship. She achieved diplomas in holistic massage, anatomy and physiology, reflexology and courses in Reiki. Becky says, “I love fresh, healthy food, especially colorful vegetarian dishes with delicious sauces, and Mediterranean cuisine. Guests rave about my homemade bread, tasty pastas, fresh fruit salads, cakes and puddings.” In addition to cooking great meals, Becky might find time to chat about her family’s 1911 50-foot Norwegian gaff-rigged ketch, or her three Atlantic crossings, or the big posh yacht in Guatemala with an owner who accidentally threw himself overboard. With Becky as your chef and hostess, your charter adventure in the Bahamas could include delightful ingredients you never even imagined.

We enjoyed an amazing week of fascinating and unique experiences too. Brief summary: the experience exceeded John and my expectations. We BELIEVE our nephews (one found a lovingly well read paperback of DOVE on the bookshelf and read it throughout the week…telling!). Adam instructed the 3 of them to kite surf…all 3 thrilled with the opportunity. Adam and Sophie …truly a dream team. For certain they have been working together for several years now although each individually is caring and kind as well as skilled, competent and responsible in what they do. Boat was well maintained for age and clean. Food was well prepared, diverse and tasty, light and met our expectations. We enjoyed the areas we cruised. Adam and Sophie were enormously friendly and helpful. Adam was extremely knowledgeable about the area. The yacht was extremely clean with nice bedrooms and comfortable seating arrangements and good ventilation. The food was wonderful and plentiful. Lots of freshly prepared, delicious food was available during the day. The areas we sailed were beautiful! It was everything we anticipated and more. Adam answered our questions about the local history, too, which was wonderful. This trip to the Bahamas is something I´ve always wanted to do, and my son and I could not have picked a better crew or boat for this experience. Thanks again! The ´S´ Family

March 27 - April 3, 2021 - Bahamas

We enjoyed a lot our family week. We would certainly recommend their service and the yacht was clean and nicely decorated. Well maintained as well, with Sophie-s little decoration touch. We used snorkels, paddle and kite surfs. Both Adam and Sophie were great and patient kite instructors. The food was great and fresh. Nice presentation and Chef Sophie used fresh and healthy food. Captain Adam and Sophie were friendly and helpful. Super knowledgeable and attentive to the safety and to ensure we were not missing any thing. We want to go back! The itinerary and pace were excellent and ideal. We were glad to sail from Georgetown to Staniel Cay.

March 20 - 25, 2021 - Bahamas - 5 Stars!!

The crew was absolutely amazing. Adam and Sophie were the perfect hosts and exceeded all our expectations. Their hospitality is unparalleled. The yacht was well appointed, comfortable with all the necessary amenities and beyond. There were great breezes all day and evening. The food was beyond anything we expected. I live a Keto lifestyle so Sophie prepared wonderful meals that met my dietary needs along with fabulous meals for my husband. Everything served looked and tasted like it came from a four star restaurant. The area we sailed was absolutely breathtaking. One of the most beautiful places on earth. My husband and I had wanted to charter a yacht for 15 years in the Bahamas and we finally did it, so this was our first charter ever. We really didn´t really know what to expect however we knew it would be a very special vacation. Wow does even begin to describe our trip. The Bahamas is a vey special place and we can´t wait to go back. It may have been our first time, but certainly not our last trip. Our crew, Adam and Sophie, made us feel immediately welcome and it didn´t take long before we knew we had made life long friends. I can´t image doing another charter in the Bahamas unless its with them. They made every effort to accommodate our needs as indicated on the survey we completed prior to sailing and absolutely nailed it! Actually the went above and beyond and made us feel so special. November 9 - 15, 2019 ~ Many wonderful memories!

The crew was friendly and accommodating, Adam and Sophie were great we had everything we needed. The yacht was comfortable and clean. The yacht was well ventilated, we had a fan in the cabin but did not need it much with sea breezes coming in the port vents. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the presentation. We loved the area wish we could have seen more! My wife Debbie said it was the best vacation that we have taken and I agree! Adam and Sophie were great we enjoyed their company and shared many things with each other of our life experiences. We saw lots of wildlife. Dolphins came a swam with us in front of the boat for several minutes. While snorkeling we saw sting rays and sea turtles as well as numerous fish! And who could not enjoy the most beautiful water in the world not to mention gorgeous sun rises and sunsets, even a full moon one night! Adam caught a Mahi-Mahi fish which was prepared an we ate. Many wonderful memories we have to cherish the rest of our lives!!

May 21, 2019 - 25th Wedding Anniversary

Adam was very accommodating with our requests and very knowledgeable. He worked very hard to ensure our trip was special and memorable. 4/5 Sophie is an incredible baker. Her daily fresh breads were a treat! Her chicken was a little overcooked but overall a great cook. Her fish dishes were also wonderful even the cracked conch which I had my doubts about. 4/5 We rated the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc) 4/5 We qualified the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board as a 4/5 (although maybe add some extra floating devices) (Adam - yes we shall add to Rubicon) We qualified the food and drinks as 4/5 Adam could come up with a couple more daily drink specials. We are mostly a beer and wine group so we were happy. (Adam - no problem I can certainly add a few more choices!) We qualified the entire experience of our trip as 4/5. We had some rainy weather that put a damper on a couple days but it was of no fault to the crew. Adam and Sophie made our 25th wedding anniversary special and memorable. I can´t thank them enough for the amazing experience and for being so accommodating with all our requests.

11-18 July, 2018 - Enjoyed Every Minute!

We enjoyed every minute right down to sleeping under the stars on the trampoline. The whole trip was very relaxing. The yacht was clean and well maintained. There was plenty of room since we were just two passengers. We used the paddle boards and the snorkeling gear. The diving was amazing. The chef did a wonderful job with the meals and was very keen to our eating habits. The captain was very experienced with sailing and quite knowledgeable with the area. He seemed to have a real understanding of exactly what we wanted to see and do. The crew also made our trip one to remember with the delicious meals and enjoyable socializing. We enjoyed their interaction and getting to know them. It was hard to say good by at the end of the trip. Just exactly what we were wanting. Relaxed, away from the crowds, quiet, and a real experience with some of the local culture. We want to just let Captain Adam and his cook Jenn know that we will always treasure the experience we had on Rubicon. It was a special time getting to know them. The Bahamas are beautiful, but their hospitality was the icing on the cake. Thank you again! The ´T´ Family

1-8 May, 2018 ~ A Memorable Experience!

The cruise was wonderful. The weather was very variable. A lot of squalls with rain, choppy waters and two nights of lightning, thunder, winds and rain. Most of the days had combi­nation of sun and clouds which worked out fine. Captain and chef were very courteous, knowledgeable and attentive to any request. The captain, Adam Dreffin was extremely knowledgeable about the area. He was able to plan the days according to the weather, currents and times of tourist boats coming to the different sites. Because of this we were able to avoid crowds and enjoy each spot. We hit all the tourist places and more. Because of the planning we were also able to make the most of the sunshine when available. Our chef, Jen, was enthusiastically health conscious. There was plenty of food and it was flavorful and filling and varied. Adam was very relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable. The yacht was comfortable, and clean. The itinerary was more than we expected. Adam was able to fit two or three destinations into one day (without seeming rushed). We were able to fit snorkeling into most days. Adam kindly agreed to let Michelle and Mike scuba off the boat and got four tanks for them. They were able to scuba three times while the rest of us snorkeled. The ´L´ Family

November 21, 2017 ~ Hooked on Sail Chartering!

Adam was terrific. Very accommodating and friendly. Quite knowledgeable about the area and secluded spots to go. Jen was awesome. Gifted at creating unique food combinations using common ingredients. Crew was 5 Star! Yacht: Older boat, but very comfortable and functional. Itinerary: A great combination of remote, secluded spots and a couple of stops in ´civilization´. Sports & Leisure: Kayak and paddle boards were excellent. Snorkel and spearfish gear fine as well. Loved being able to troll for fish off the stern while under sail (caught four fish, one was delicious!). Food & Drinks: Adam makes a great gombay smash. Jen´s appetizers were fantastic. We are now officially hooked on sail chartering! D.

5-12 August, 2017 ~ Fantastic!!

How was your overall experience? Fantastic. Would love to go back. Did the crew live up to your expectations? I really had no expectations but Adam and Jen were unbelievably welcoming and accommodating. We all made new friends How would you describe the food and drinks? Fish is good but not at every meal. Were you involved in planning the itinerary? We just went with the flow, it was great. What did you like most about your charter? Blue water everywhere and the crew. Would you recommend this yacht and crew to your friends? Absolutely Can you give me any hints as to how I can provide my clients with an even better experience? Good sun lotion is a must and a long sleeve shirt is a good idea too. Don’t bring half the clothes you think you need. Is there anything in particular you wish you had known in advance? August is off season in the Bahamas so restaurants are not well stocked. Georgetown is a rather impoverished area (Friendly people but not much to do) Is there anything else I should know? Adam was raised on the water and grew up in the Exumas, his knowledge of the area is outstanding. Would you recommend chartering a yacht or boat to others, now that you have done it yourself? 5-11 August, 2017 – Life Changing!

My dearest Adam, To say this trip was AMAZING would be an understatement! It was life changing! Every part of my being has been touched and my life is altered forever. Thank you is not enough. Love, Jill and Ernie❤ Feedback to Broker: The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating. I cannot sing my praises high enough for Adam and Tina. Adam was a highly skilled captain with excellent knowledge of the area we cruised. He knew when and where to go for drift snorkeling, and as a result our snorkeling experience was better than any previous trip. Tina was a friendly and joyful host. The Rubicon was comfortable, clean and well ventilated. I liked the fact that each cabin had its own head. The Rubicon was the perfect mix of performance and comfort. Tina was a great hostess and cook. I ate better on the boat than I eat at home. Tina manages the difficult mix of preparing food the tastes, great but is healthy as well. I usually put on weight during vacation and did not on this one, but I ate like a king. Fresh baked bread,muffins and much more. The Exumas this time of year is just amazing. I have traveled the Caribbean for many years and the best beaches and water is in the Exumas. The crew has cruised these waters for many years and they have extensive knowledge of where to go and what to do. Adams was well connected with the local people and this made for a great experience. A real bonus of going this time of year (July) is that no one is there. We had all the beaches and anchorages to ourselves.

Bahamas Days at Rubicon: It was amazing and wonderful because we felt the nature experience. We loved swimming and exploring the islands. Adam was a wonderful captain and Tina...oh, Tina!!!! Super Tina. We loved her. She cooks so well and made us feel comfortable. She was so sweet with us, and funny too. Both made us remember this trip... This was the best vacation we had all year! May 1-9 2016, Exumas - A Great Time!

We had a great time. Adam´s great local knowledge is a major advantage in finding snorkeling spots. I´m happy to say that we have never had a bad snorkel on Rubicon. His mate, Val, is lovely and a very good cook. They were very accommodating with our desire for a late dinner hour. Overall a great week in the Exumas. Adam was even able to procure some additional Conch for us so we had several opportunities to enjoy it during the cruise. Mike and Kathy

We had never been to the Bahamas before, so we were astounded at the abundant sealife and beauty of the Exumas. The remote anchorages were calm and scenic, and nature walks ashore introduced us to the incredible bird life. Our favorite adventure was taking the dinghy ride through the mangrove creeks. I never knew there could be so many turtles up there. The clarity of the water was just amazing. The best part was feeling the enthusiasm and love that Captain Adam had for the Exumas. We loved hearing island stories over some fantastic meals in the cockpit at night. Everything was wonderful, clean and more than we expected. Thanks for sharing your world with us! Ed, UK

When you said we might be able to swim with dolphins, turtles, sharks and rays, I wasnt sure you could pull it off. But wo! Watch out what you ask for! Good thing I have the photos you took with your underwater camera to show jy family and friends back home. They didnt believe me until I pulled out the one with the big turtle. What a wild day that was! The snorkeling was our favorite part of the trip, next to excellent meals on Rubicon. The reefs were colorful, fish were in good numbers and the anchorages pristine. When they say Bahamians are some of the friendliest people in the world, its true! We really liked the bar and food at Staniel and Chat n Chill. Greg

The crew on Rubicon were engaging & interesting. Adam´s life experience aboard boats was impressive. Everything on the boat worked perfectly. Though we arrived with no particular agenda, we appreciated the suggestions of Capt. Adam. We hadn´t taken much time to research the endless possibilities of destinations in the Exumas and Out Islands. We were lucky to come upon Rubicon. The opportunity really feel the islands seemed personal and passionate to Capt. Adam. His knowledge and kindness was especially appreciated. The crew´s good sense of humor was grand in all ways too! My wife petting a shark. Thought Id never see the day for that to happen! So, thanks for all the wild and fun adventures aboard Rubicon. Capt. Adams knowledge of the Exumas made our charter week very special. His enthusiasm was evident. We liked his flexibility and sweet disposition. From the port of Nice , you can discover the Baie des Anges , the Rade de Villefranche-sur-Mer, Cap Ferrat, the small village of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze and its seaside, the Principality of Monaco and why not sail to the Italian border to discover the magnificent old village of Menton.

While sailing towards the west, you can discover the Cap d’Antibes, the beautiful bay of Cannes and the islands of Lérins on which we can call. We can also continue our sailing to the Esterel Massif and Gulf of Saint. There is no doubt that the catamaran sailing on the Côte d’Azur will provide you with some wonderful surprises .

From Nice, we offer Catamaran excursions in Monaco . We will leave the Port of Nice to sail in the direction of the East. On the road, we will discover many small villages of the seaside, we will cross the Cap of Nice, Cap Ferrat, Cap Estel and we will go to Cap Martin. On the road, we can make stops in the beautiful coves that offer wonderful beaches. I’m thinking in particular of the Mala beach, with its turquoise waters, cliffs and caves.
