Ghost Recon: Wildlands patch 3.0 out now on PS4, Xbox One - here's what it does
Ghost Recon: Wildlands has an update coming today that should entice you to log in every week.

Ubisoft has announced that a new Ghost Recon: Wildlands patch is coming to the game today. The patch will go live in just a couple of hours, following server maintenance.
Maintenance starts at 8am GMT and goes on for two hours. This only applies to PS4, and Xbox One, the two platforms getting patch 3.0 today. PC follows on Friday, April 14. Patch size is around 5.3GB depending on your platform.
Ubisoft mentioned some of the new features included in patch 3.0 in yesterday's announcement of the Narco Road expansion , but the full notes have now been revealed.
The update adds live season challenges alongside some new rewards. Seasons will be themed, and the first one goes live with the patch. It's called The Rise and Fall of Unidad and will focus on taking down Unidad operations.
Season challenges refresh every Wednesday and players can earn up to three rewards per week. The update makes improvements to the co-op experience with regards to mission and intel unlocks. The XP bar bug has been fixed, too.
Ubisoft says patch 3.0 made improvements to the "narrative content delivery", which affects dialogue between AI ghosts. The radio content randomisation has also been optimised so you should have more variety every time you enter a car.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint doubles performance on next-gen consoles
But there's a big resolution divide between Xbox Series X and PS5.
The new console generation has so far been amazing for players who love smooth, 60 frames per second gaming. Ubisoft, especially, leads the charge with the likes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, The Division 2, and Immortals Fenyx Rising - all come fully equipped with at least a performance option, or run at 60fps by default on Xbox Series X, Series S and PS5. We can add another to the list here too: Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It was patched around next-gen's launch, and while running in backwards compatibility mode, the doubling of frame-rate is a game-changing experience. The Division 2 tried the same trick but came unstuck somewhat on PS5, missing some visual flourishes found in every other version - even PS4 Pro. Speaking of which, there's good news with The Division 2 here worth touching on before we get into Breakpoint properly.
The Division 2's Patch 1.31 (as it appears on the PS5 front-end) came out hot on the heels of our coverage and essentially sorts out all of the issues we had with it - namely, screen-space reflections and volumetric fog are back. Looking back, this was likely an oversight from developer Massive Entertainment at the time; a simple flag for these settings that went unchecked. However, it's clear that legacy limitations from PS4 Pro are still in place - there's a vanishingly small performance advantage here opposite Xbox Series X, but it comes at the cost of a lower resolution on PS5. All is well, where the big success remains that next-gen can now achieve 60fps - a similar story to Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
As a successor to Ghost Recon Wildlands, Breakpoint had serious ambition at release. There are flashes of the big sandbox jungles in Crysis or Far Cry here. Physics for mud are stand-out too, and there's just an incredible sense of freedom to exploring the island - densely packed as it is with woodlands, vehicles and secret coves, time of day changes and weather states. But as was so often the case on last-gen, a big complex world like this only ran at 30 frames per second. We had two modes - for graphics and resolution - but both shared a 30fps cap. The situation changes up for next-gen: PS5 runs the resolution mode at a 1440p, while Series X delivers it at 4K even though both are touted as offering up ultra HD support. Both are equipped with dynamic resolution scaling support but spend most of the time at these top-end limits. The actual visual make-up of the two seems identical by and large - though Series X's hardware-enforced 16x anisotropic filtering isn't matched on the Sony machine. Curiously, Series S only has a single mode, and it runs at 1440p30 just like PS5's resolution mode, putting the pixel count limit on the Sony console into perspective.
Of course the new performance mode is what sets the new version of the game apart. Only PS5 and Series X get this option, and it's delivered at a cost to rendering resolution. In the case of PS5 you're looking at 1080p as the max resolution - the same as PS4 Pro's graphics mode. Performance mode alters some settings, changing the ambient occlusion method - but in general it's a very similar visual setup. Series X on the other hand hits 60fps while rendering at a much higher dynamic 1440p. So that's 2560x1440 in performance mode max, though here we do see adjustments in resolution to hold the frame-rate steady - lowest being 2304x1296. There is some flexibility on Series X, but in general it's still pushing a much sharper picture than its PS5 counterpart. The upgrade is welcome on both machines, but it's unfortunate that the Sony machine is still seemingly encumbered by limitations more becoming of the PS4 Pro. Thankfully, the frame-rate upgrade is mostly solid on both machines, though we did encounter strange dips on both PS5 and Series X that quickly cleaned themselves up, and sometimes didn't manifest again in re-tests - very odd. But the upgrade is palpable overall, massively improving the quality of the experience.
While the improvement to frame-rate is stand-out, there are boosts to the resolution mode too - both consoles can now properly lock to 30fps, improving the experience over their last-gen equivalents, but there is the sense of a lack of ambition here. Dynamic 1440p on PS5 while Series X delivers 2160p is at odds with the system specifications and of course, our experiences with many other games. The notion that Series S' default mode matches PS5's resolution mode in image quality is also baffling: there's just the sense that Microsoft's cross-generation SDK tools offer up more options to developers and that it isn't a reflection on system capabilities. In my view, it makes sense to run Series X on this mode for visual purists - to see 4K30 if that's your tonic of choice. However, running at 1440p on PS5 doesn't seem like that much of an improvement up against 1080p60.
Breakpoint, much like Ubisoft's other works, makes a case for settling on 60fps as standard this generation - something rarely possible in more open-sandbox games last-gen. Whether this is sustainable for more technically pioneering efforts down the line remains to be seen, but for now at least, jumping from 30fps to 60fps is definitely a big upgrade - and one we hope to see rolled out for many more games in the future.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands Update: Mercenaries
Your support of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands since the launch has been truly incredible. Through strong PvE content, Ghost War, iconic character appearances, and community requested features, you’ve stood beside us through every step of the journey.
With Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint coming this October, we want to send off Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands with one last major update as a thank-you to the community. The update will introduce a brand-new mode that is truly a unique experience.
We’re proud to introduce you to Mercenaries. We’re excited to experiment with this concept to bring something new and different before we launch the next installment in the franchise.
What Is Mercenaries?
Mercenaries is an eight-player free-for-all PvPvE gameplay experience. Your objective is to call for rescue, locate and reach the extraction point, and be the first to board the chopper.
Phase 1: Recon
![ghost recon wildlands xbox series x update [GRW] [News] [July 17th] Screenshot 1](https://staticctf.ubisoft.com/J3yJr34U2pZ2Ieem48Dwy9uqj5PNUQTn/5qasWwsg9S3Rdzws9gQEYV/1f3fa593a1613ce4e3021c52ccff9223/GRW_MERC_Transmitter_1080.jpg)
At the beginning of the match, your extraction point is unknown and you will have no weapons, gear, or items. You will need to locate and activate radio transmitters to shrink the possible extract zone on your map.
In order to locate the transmitters, you will need to find an intel marker. After interacting with the intel, you will have three choices to gain an advantage through the position of a transmitter and a randomly determined selection of the following:
• The position of other players for a limited amount of time
• The position of rare items like gear and weapons
• The position of a vehicle
After you use intel or a transmitter, you will not be able to use it again. Your opponents will be able to use it, if they haven’t already.
During this phase, you will need to compete with other players and face Unidad soldiers to locate transmitters. You’ll also need to find gear and weapons to give yourself a competitive edge.
Once you activate three transmitters, you’ll reveal the exact position of the extraction point and gain one out of the five segments needed to fill your extraction gauge and board the helicopter.
Phase 2: Helicopter Deployment
![ghost recon wildlands xbox series x update [GRW] [News] [July 17th] Screenshot 2](https://staticctf.ubisoft.com/J3yJr34U2pZ2Ieem48Dwy9uqj5PNUQTn/3QeISLOXBFrBb9xDmlVyIq/fbf048e1d596adfc2bad42c91e477b24/GRW_MERC_Extract_1080.jpg)
When you’ve activated three transmitters, the helicopter will start flying to the extraction point. When the helicopter lands, the location will be revealed to all players.
Those who haven’t activated three transmitters can still continue to gather intel.
Depending on your strategy, you can use intel to get better gear, reveal enemy player locations, or gather three transmitters yourself to begin filling your extraction gauge before reaching the helicopter.
Phase 3: Extraction
![ghost recon wildlands xbox series x update [GRW] [News] [July 17th] Screenshot 3](https://staticctf.ubisoft.com/J3yJr34U2pZ2Ieem48Dwy9uqj5PNUQTn/3Jdgk3e71WeUZNhg7WeRvW/6514cc7e8c28befeef0b227951fb8c5c/GRW_MERC_Fight_1080.jpg)
Once you’ve reached the extraction point, you will need to fill a gauge to board the helicopter. The gauge can be filled by staying in a set area around the helicopter.
This gauge will have checkpoints, and if you are forced to leave the area or want to set a trap for the other mercenaries, the gauge will remain filled to the last checkpoint you reached.
The helicopter will not extract you if there are other players in the area, so you’ll have to use your best tactics to keep the other mercenaries out when your gauge is full.
New Mechanics
Loot your gear.
When you spawn in the match, you will be equipped with nothing but your melee weapon. It will be on you to find the best gear, weapons, and consumables to fight enemy players and the Unidad forces.
Located around the map and on the bases, there will be caches where you are be able to find everything from sniper rifles and flashbangs to armored vests and healing syringes.
If you die, you will lose all of the loot you gathered and start at square one when you respawn.
This is Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, so good tactics will always be rewarded. Utilizing the transmitter system, exploring the map, and infiltrating Unidad bases for loot will give you plenty of opportunities to get back in the game even if you die.
Armor and Health
Mercenaries will have a new health and armor system. Based on the gear you pick up, an armor bar will appear. This bar will absorb a percentage of damage based on the penetration capability of your opponent’s weapon.
If you are hit by a weapon that deals penetration damage, you’ll start to bleed. When bleeding begins, you’ll start to gradually lose a percentage of your health.
If you are injured, you can loot three different types of healing items to get back into fighting shape:
• Medikit restores all health and will stop bleeding
• Bandage stops bleeding but will not restore health
• Syringe restores health but will not stop bleeding
Destructibles
![ghost recon wildlands xbox series x update [GRW] [News] [July 17th] Screenshot 4](https://staticctf.ubisoft.com/J3yJr34U2pZ2Ieem48Dwy9uqj5PNUQTn/3Ebn1Wb3jsnND2Ki4WVN75/9480d2051a63f80ab289fd944c080e5c/GRW_MERC_Breach_1080.jpg)
In Mercenaries, destructible doors can be opened with a CQC. Behind these doors, you’ll have the chance to find loot to help you take on other players and Unidad.
You’ll have to think tactically about when to do it as your opponents will be able to hear you breaking the doors if they are close by.
It’s up to you to weigh the risks against the rewards in every scenario of Mercenaries.
Lone Wolf Costume
![ghost recon wildlands xbox series x update [GRW] [News] [July 17th] Walker Costume](https://staticctf.ubisoft.com/J3yJr34U2pZ2Ieem48Dwy9uqj5PNUQTn/bQn6Gy094C2u3leIQpoYu/6580e7273dba68f0732627bbe2b4d54e/walkercostume.jpg)
After completing your first game, you will be granted the Lone Wolf costume as a reward to thank all players who try out this mode.
Mercenary Items
You will also obtain rewards based on your number of wins:
• 1st Win: Mercenary Patch
• 3rd Win: Mercenary Pants
• 5th Win: Mercenary Heavy Vest
• 10th Win: Jacket Army Mercenary
• 15th Win: Mercenary Heavy Vest with Shoulder Pads
• 25th Win: Mercenary Backpack
BUG FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
• (PVP) Sapper mines will now blink while activating, similar to the Trapper.
• (PVP) Fixed exploits in the Dust Town, Lithium Mine, Zinc Mine, and Institute maps.
• (GUERILLA MODE) Fixed an issue in Guerrilla Mode where players would be rewarded with more Prestige Credits than intended.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Gets Xbox One X Updates In New Patch
Plus, there are other changes, too..
Posted By Pramath | On 10th, Nov. 2017

Microsoft promised that more and more games would continue to get Xbox One X enhancements by way of patches and support after the system launched, and it seems like they were not wrong about that. Today’s update for Ghost Recon: Wildlands introduced Xbox One X enhancements for the game.
The enhancements include a better draw distance, better texture cache, anisotropic filtering, better resolution, and other graphical upgrades and clean ups. On the whole, Xbox One X players should find a noticeable, if subtle, difference in visual quality when playing the game on their console versus on a standard Xbox One or even a PS4.
There are, of course, other updates included in this new patch too, including changes made to the game’s PvP mode. You can check out the full list of changes in the patch notes below. Ghost Recon: Wildlands launched earlier this year, and is available right now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Xbox One X Enhancements:
- Increased texture cache size to improve loading times by keeping recently used assets in memory.
- Increased distance at which object and terrain details will start to appear.
- Anisotropic filtering for better definition of terrain textures.
- Increased resolution of the terrain textures.
- Improved temporal antialiasing for less ghosting.
- Increased tessellation factor of the ground.
- New data set in high resolution for ground decals, i.e. more finesse in puddles, ruts and footprints.
- Weapons can now be customized directly from the Loadout menu as opposed to the Edit Appearance menu page.
- Store entry option has been added to the PvP Main Menu.
- Fixed an issue where players wouldn’t receive XP after finished match.
- Helicopters will no longer run out of ammo upon extended usage.

Along with the new game mode, the Interference update introduces a new class, the Disruptor. This class can scramble an opponent's HUD when they get too close, similar to jammers from the Fallen Ghosts expansion. The Disruptor class is available early for season pass and Ghost War pass holders; all other players will be able to unlock or purchase the class beginning next week.

Ubisoft has also shared a roadmap of its planned content for Wildlands' Ghost War mode. The next update is slated to roll our in December and is called Jungle Storm, with a subsequent update scheduled to follow every month through April. Like Interference, each new Ghost War update will add new modes, classes, maps, and more to the shooter. You can take a look at the roadmap graphic above.
Ghost War was released as a free update to Ghost Recon: Wildlands last month, but players who own the game's season pass or Ghost War pass will get access to every new class a week early. To commemorate the launch of the Interference update, Ubisoft is selling the Ghost War pass separately on all digital stores for $15. Ghost Recon: Wildlands will be one of the many games you can pick up on sale this Black Friday, with Walmart offering it for $19 . You can find a selection of patch notes for the Interference update below or read more about it on the Ghost Recon: Wildlands website .

What specifically is your development team doing to enhance Ghost Recon Wildlands for Xbox One X?
We are very excited by the work done by the team to enhance Ghost Recon Wildlands for Xbox One X. The game will feature improved draw distances, better terrain representation through improved tessellation, as well as a beautiful higher resolution and full HDR support.

Players will feel like Bolivia has never been more realistic. The improved terrain tessellation provides new levels of immersion, while the improved draw distance will allow players to admire even better vistas in the massive open world of the game.

How has the process been to get the game up and running on Xbox One X?
Working on the Xbox One X allowed us to improve several key aspects of the visuals of the game, and it was an exciting prospect from the get-go. Working with Microsoft ensured that we were able to make the most of this new power at our disposal.
