Appearances

The wind waker.

During the Second Quest of The Wind Waker , Link receives the Hero's New Clothes from his Grandma instead of the Hero's Clothes . The clothes are invisible, meaning Link will be seen wearing his starting outfit for the rest of his adventure. [2]

Although the Hero's New Clothes are invisible, as it is said they can only be seen by honest people, [2] some characters comment about Link 's new outfit. Such is the case during the conversation with the Great Deku Tree . As the Second Quest features all Hylian Language translated, the Great Deku Tree refers to Link 's clothing as the clothes of the legendary hero. [3]

Phantom Hourglass

The Hero's New Clothes appear in Phantom Hourglass as part of the game's Trading Sequence . They can be obtained from the Man of Smiles after visiting him for the first time. The Clothes must be traded for the Kaleidoscope from Nyeve . Although the Clothes are invisible, Nyeve senses them in Link 's possession, [4] stating that he has been long searching for such an item. [5]

  • In The Wind Waker , while wearing the Hero's New Clothes , Link 's hat can be seen outlined in multiple occasions, such as while using the Magic Armor , and in the bubble covering Link during the final cutscene.
  • The Hero's New Clothes are a reference to " The Emperor's New Clothes ", a folktale in which two swindlers promise a vain emperor a set of magical clothes that they claim can only be seen by those who deserve their jobs. Although the "clothes" are fake and the emperor is, in reality, naked, his people lie to him about seeing the clothes, out of fear of losing their jobs.

The legend of zelda: the wind waker [ ].

In a Second Quest , Link's Grandma , instead of giving Link the Hero's Clothes , gives him the Hero's New Clothes. According to Link's Grandma, the clothes are made of a fabric that only the honest can see, although the in-game description suggests that they are not even there at all. However, if Link uses the Magic Armor it will form an outline similar to Link's tunic and cap, implying that he is indeed wearing the clothes. After the final battle of the game, the bubble that forms around Link also resembles the tunic.

When Link wears them, they appear to make no difference at all; he is seen in his blue shirt with the crawfish on it, with no hat, just like when the player first starts the game. It also affects some dialogue, as when shown to Aryll , instead of stating how Link looks too warm in the clothes, she tells Link that even though she cannot see them, she is sure that they look nice. Aryll also states that he always wears the same outfit and that he needs a new look.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass [ ]

The Hero's New Clothes are given to Link by the Man of Smiles , after Link manages to defeat all the creatures that have taken over his boat. This invisible set of clothes cannot be worn or used by Link, but can be traded with the Self-proclaimed Hero for a Kaleidoscope during the quest for the Great Spin Attack .

Etymology [ ]

The Hero's New Clothes is a likely reference to the fairy tale, The Emperor's New Clothes , where a pair of con artists convince a vain emperor of their ability to create a set of clothes that only intelligent people can see, when in fact, they produce nothing and charge large amounts of money for their "work". The climax of the story has the emperor parading in the street naked while the townspeople pretend to see his glorious clothes out of fear that they may be called idiots (with only a child actually pointing it out). Much of the dialogue in the Second Quest of The Wind Waker regarding the Hero's New Clothes is quite tongue in cheek and suggests that the same has happened here implying Link's Grandma is playing a practical joke on him during the Second Quest.

Biography [ ]

Nyeve can be found in the northwest quadrant, sailing the Prince of Red Lions . His outfit is almost exactly like Link 's, except with a small white ball at the end of the cap, a heart-shaped belt buckle, blue boots rather than brown boots, and a garden tool for a weapon. He is a middle-aged man, with red hair that connects to his beard. His brother is Nyave , a member of the maritime defense force who sails the southwestern sea in a Traveler's Ship.

Nyeve runs a combat minigame. If Link can hit him 100 times, he is rewarded with a Heart Container . Scoring between 100 and 199 rewards Link with a Treasure . A score above 200 rewards him with Ship Parts . This can be repeated anytime by simply talking to Nyeve.

Nyeve is part of the game's trading sequence . After giving him the Hero's New Clothes , Nyeve gives Link a Kaleidoscope . The Kaleidoscope is traded to the Ho Ho Tribe in the bottom left corner of the ship in the Southwestern Sea.
