Does anyone know anything about these boats, cant seem to find much info about them. Im probably going to need a new trampoline soon, are these easy to find or do I just get one made up custom? The cat I bought also looks to be "suped up" quite a bit. The jib pulleys are on the tramp and are held by wires between the hulls. Is anyone familiar with modifications like this. I imagine this was done to increase the size of the jib??? It also has a kind of jib traveller setup i think???... Happy sailing... Link to commentShare on other sites, rev yukka ii. with your tramp it may only need a re-stitch. a lot of the time it is the stitching that goes and if you get them re-stitched along the seams then you can get a couple more seasons from them easy. as far as the rest goes i don't know but some one will. enjoy REV Darryl J Barrett The original jib sheeting setup on the Prindle 16 was with wire strops, and the cat performed very well (compared to its main competiter - the Hobie 16), if the tramp cant be restiched, then it is a simple matter to have a sail maker make up a new one. They are considerably more "forgiving" than a Hobie and in the right hands can be driven harder around a race course. A fun boat with a lot of potentual that stood up to a lot of abuse without costing a fortune in repairs. Mind you I would think that it would have quite a few years "under its belt" by now so it should be treated with a little respect when sailing it. ![prindle 16 catamaran Guest Indy](https://content.invisioncic.com/m240599/set_resources_1/84c1e40ea0e759e3f1505eb1788ddf3c_default_photo.png) Thanks for the replies, it has been re-stiched before, the tramp isnt that bad but it just seems to be a bit stiff and brittle. I am more worried about the vinyl section that the tramp laces to as this is tearing slightly, wiped it down with baby oil and this seems to have made it soft again. I have found out that the jib setup is standard, it does have tubing around it though to protect the crew. I have also replaced the main sheet and lines that lift the rudders up and down. Looks alot better now compared to the frayed lines that were there before. Now i just need a trapeze harness... Prindle 16 is a good fast cat mut needs to be tuned correctly. My tips from experience are: mast rake must be right, mainsail must have no wrinkles when under sail and rudder set on their correct nagles. The P16 will be Hobie 14's, SCATS and Papere Tigers on handicaps with ease. I sail mine regularly at RYE With regards with your trampoline, don't use baby oil on it as it has petrolium in it. So, it will slowly eat away the trampoline. The best thing to use on the old style tramps is saddle dressing. A sailmaker can size a new one up for you. Also Brisbane Catamaran Centre can help you with tuning and also any spare parts for this boat. They also sell the tramps too I think. The Prindle 16 is a great boat and I sailed one back in the 80's, and usually finished in front of the Hobie 16 fleet. Ive restiched all the seams on the tramp and now believe it to be stronger than ever. I would like to go and sail with a club and am thinking Kurnell would probably be the easiest to get to for me. Would a P16 be welcome at Kurnell and when would be the best time to go down and have a sail? ![prindle 16 catamaran Guest Antony](https://content.invisioncic.com/m240599/set_resources_1/84c1e40ea0e759e3f1505eb1788ddf3c_default_photo.png) Guest AntonyAll cats a welcome at the 'nell. But be sure to check the calendar at kcc.asn.au We are having a few weeks break over the Xmas NY period when everybody goes to the Nationals. Races start at 2pm. With hopefully a strongish NE. So if you get down early you can have a bit of a practice or get a look over your boat. - if wanted. catsailor.netThe Nacra nationals are at KCC in Sydney from the 2nd Jan - 7th Jan - If you want info about your Prindle come down and look for Ross Guinea - He is the Aust agent for Prindle Thanks for the replys. ![prindle 16 catamaran prindle 16 catamaran](https://www.smartmarineguide.com/img/listing2/social/facebook.png) Prindle 16 Catamaran Boats for sale![prindle 16 catamaran Prindle 16 Sailing Catamaran and Trailer, customized for fast rigging](https://img.scgpix.com/listimg/img1_0915/08/img_bEnlOeFttH.jpg) Prindle 16 Sailing Catamaran and Trailer, customized for fast riggingMonroe, New Jersey Make Prindle Category Catamarans Length 16.0 Posted Over 1 Month Prindle 16 Sailing Catamaran and trailer, highly customized, many spare parts. At a glance:Clean Title for the boatClean Title for the trailerEverything is new - tons of money invested, see below.Boat and trailer are modified to save 40 minutes on rigging, see below.Trailer is modified to keep car away from salt water, see below. About Prindle 16 Prindle 16 has slightly larger hulls compared to the Hobie Cat 16, and tends to have more buoyancy and is often recommended for novices. Prindle is a tough boat and doesn't have the famous Hobie Cat weak spots where the hulls rot. Parts are readily available from online retailers This is a very fun boat with 1-4 people. I've clocked 20+ mph on it in the Keyport area and I have never sailed anything before and have had no instruction. I've even sailed with it overnight (island camping). About THIS Prindle 16 The boat and trailer have been modified to reduce the setup time. Prior to modifications it took me about an hour to rig the boat and get it ready to launch. After modifications, it takes me less than 20 (and I'm always doing it alone). Modifications include: Boat is on trailer backwards so that the rudders stay on.PVC rudder supports to prevent rudder damage.Quick-Release forestay (shackle rated for 2500lbs), quick-release boom, etc (no D-rings)Shrouds always stay on because the boat is backwards on the trailer.I use micro bungees for batten ties, they stay on.The only setup is therefore: raise mast, clip in boom, raise sails.Longer trailer tongue keeps your car away from salt water. Extends trailer 4 feet, made out of 11 gauge steel. New coupler.2014: New galvanized axle, bearings, seals, etc. Old axle was rusted beyond repair. 2014: Brand new Bearing Buddies on hubs. Current ConditionSails are good and have no tears. Jib has a couple of teeth missing on the zipper but it works fine.Trailer is 100% with new axles, wheels, lights, coupler, etc.Boat is 100% with new everything, though looks a bit dirty due to the plankton in Keyport Bay and a few off-color epoxy spots. No repairs are needed at this time. You are welcome to arrange to inspect the boat. I'm available most days by appointment. I've invested $2840.54 in this boat over the last 3 years, and now you may not have to. (Yes, I have a complete maintenance record). This is obviously a unique item and I'm sure that it will find the right buyer who can appreciate the features. ![prindle 16 catamaran 16 ft Prindle Catamaran Sailboat](https://www.smartmarineguide.com/img/placeholder_300x200.jpg) 16 ft Prindle Catamaran SailboatBoyne City, Michigan Sailboat may be seen in Lake Charlevoix near Sommerset Yacht Club. It is in very good shape as are the sails. ![prindle 16 catamaran 16' Prindle Sailboat](https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzQ2WDEwMDA=/z/KQwAAOSwxH1T4bT-/$_20.JPG) 16' Prindle SailboatCommerce Twp, Michigan Up for sale is my 16' Prindle. The main sale is multi colored and in very good shape considering this is not a new boat, the jib is solid Yellow. The Boats pontoons are in very good shape with no soft spots. The Trailer is Aluminum and also in good shape and has bearing buddies installed. I have not sailed in years but have sailed extensively on both this prindle and other sailboats. The 16 Prindle handles the heavy wind far better than a hobie and very importantly can be self righted when/if you flip it by just one person. This point can not be overstated you dont want to be stranded in the middle of the lake because you are sailing an 18' It will take a weekend to clean up and to do the intisl setup. On a prindle each rudder is raised and lowered manually and independantly of the other by two different lines, for a total of four four foot lines. These lines are about three to four feet long each. These lines are available at lowes or home depot in the rope section and cost a total under $10.00. It is easy with just a coat hanger to re-line your rudders in about 20 minutes and is part of good maitenance to do on who evers prindle you adopt. Besides this just a good overall cleaning and waxing much like you would your car. The trailer has Michigan plates but the tabs are expired. I contacted secretary of state today and was told that boats under 20' in Michigan do not have title but just a bill of sale, please feel free to confirm this independantly with the Michigan Secretary of State office. All the other ropes and block along with the main and jib sails and the boom, Mast and cables, have been stored inside and are in excellent condition. I am no longer including the trampoline so you will have to buy a new one. This is good because new trampolines are so much better than the original trampolines that came with these boats. The reason is you tend to slide across these tramps very often as you move from port to starboard under the boom and vice versa and nothing is worse than the original trampoline for this or a modern trampoline with burs/small inperfections. You also want a trampoline that will be smooth to slide across without any obstacles in the mat ie Straps, Gromets, Rope and in my opinion rope pockets. See Aromic Tarp Website for 16' Prindle Mats. http://www.atomictarp.com/catamaran_trampolines?id=catamaran_trampolines&bas=&categories=4 The prindle is at my home on commerce lake in Commerce Township, MI. It is loaded on its aluminum trailer in my driveway. $650 firm 248-266-2045 or 248-894-6387 Emailing is the easiest way to reach me, I check my email often thru out the day and can respond to any questions quickly. ![prindle 16 catamaran Prindle 16 ft Catamaran with LOTS of extras](https://www.smartcarguide.com/listimg/img1_1014/23/img_9MnSPMbhLG.jpg) Prindle 16 ft Catamaran with LOTS of extrasLong Beach, California I have spent over $4000 for equipment and upgrades in the last 4 to 10 years, during which time the cat has been used only 4 or 5 times each summer and stored inside a large dry garage. The hulls are 1983 and are very sound with zero de-lamination. The sails, mast, boom, cross beams, dolphin-catcher and rudder system date from 1978. All parts have been properly maintained and are in great condition. Sail Prindle 16 Catamaran without BoomI purchased and sail a Prindle 16 catamaran. The Prindle comes with a boom. Although, this boom mounted off the mast is dangerous when it swings around during a tack. Since the sail has battens in it to keep the sail stiff, can I sail without the boom? In this case I would attached the block and tackle directly to the sail, instead of the boom. ![prindle 16 catamaran](https://www.sailnet.com/d1/avatars/s/156/156634.jpg?1592288370) Top Contributors this Month![prindle 16 catamaran](https://www.sailnet.com/d1/avatars/s/550/550273.jpg?1662985887) ![](//tusnoticias.online/777/templates/cheerup/res/banner1.jpg) |

The 16′ Prindle Catamaran is a type of sailboat known for its speed and maneuverability. With a length of 16 feet, it is designed to be sailed by one or two people. The Prindle design features twin hulls connected by a trampoline, providing stability and agility on the water.
A sail area/displacement ratio below 16 would be considered under powered; 16 to 20 would indicate reasonably good performance; above 20 suggests relatively high performance. SA/D = SA (ft²) ÷ [Disp (lbs) / 64]^.666 Bal./Disp.:

The Hobie 16 is an older design, heavier, more sail area, less rudder. The Prindle 16 was designed by a very small guy to sail with his small wife. Bigger bow, and less sail made the boat less prone to driving the bow under, but the bigger bow stayed under once there. Crossbars mounted to the hull made the boat stiffer.

I found that a well setup Prindle 16 will go to weather (upwind sailing) slightly better than a Hobie 16. On a P16 you can outpoint H16's. I also found that Hobie 16's will run better (sailing downwind or broad reaching) than a prindle 16. Around the course the two are pretty evenly match with something like 1 or 2 % difference in performance ...

It's currently registered through 2025. Trailer is in good shape. I'm using it for short trips (~10 minutes to the water for me).

Although, this boom mounted off the mast is dangerous when it swings around during a tack. Since the sail has battens in it to keep the sail stiff, can I sail without the boom?
