The Plasm Wraith is the main antagonist and final boss of Pikmin 3 . While scientific information about it is unknown, it can be presumed that it is a relative of another creature from PNF-404, the Waterwraith . It resides in the Formidable Oak where it obsesses over Olimar , whom it holds captive.
The Plasm Wraith has a wide array of abilities which include flight and various elemental powers (fire, water, electricity, and a crystal). Also, all of the other creatures that inhabit Formidable Oak (with the exception of a Nectarous Dandlefly) are illusions created by the Plasm Wraith.
After it is defeated, it is revealed to be still alive, growing in anger from the top of its mound as the Koppaites and Olimar leave PNF-404.

Appearance [ ]
The Plasm Wraith is a bipedal being made entirely out of a golden cellular protoplasmic mass, with short arms to the sides of its head, and in its face, it only has a hole that is its mouth.
It is small at first, but when the Koppaites and the Pikmin enter the maze to go to the S.S. Drake, it becomes a transparent substance called the " Mysterious Life Form ". When swallowing Captain Olimar in this form (and in the previous one) it becomes a golden orb, and in the end during the final battle, it becomes giant, and small when the parts of its body are removed.
Biography [ ]
Phase 1: mysterious life form [ ].
When first spotted atop the oak, the Plasm Wraith transforms into the Mysterious Life Form, and envelopes Olimar in order to protect him, but is defeated with Pikmin attacks. With no other way to go, the group issues the Pikmin to carry Olimar through the oak itself. For reasons not currently explained, the Pikmin are unable to find the path they must take, and instead, it is decided that they follow after Brittany. As soon as they enter, the Mysterious Life Form drops from the cave ceiling and begins chasing the player down the chasm. The player must stay ahead of it while overcoming the various obstacles present within the oak in order to safely escape.
The Plasm Wraith is liquefied in this phase, making it immune from damage. It chases after Brittany as she has Pikmin carry Olimar, leaving Alph and Charlie to find their way around the underground maze of the Formidable Oak. Pikmin are unable to damage it while it is liquefied, they just get stuck inside it, only able to free themselves once a Captain whistles continuously on them.
Any enemy that comes into contact with the Mysterious Life Form is absorbed and killed instantly. If the Mysterious Life Form is able to obtain Olimar, it becomes solid and dashes for the entrance of the maze, with the day ending instantly if it manages to reach the beginning of the cave. Stop the Plasm Wraith by dealing enough damage to the Life Form, stunning it for a short time.
The point of the confrontation with the Mysterious Life Form is not to destroy it, but to escape from it. There are a few notes that the player should consider:
- The Mysterious Life Form is invincible, unless it has Olimar, so focus on always moving forward.
- There are multiple paths the player can take, so take whichever is easier to overcome.
- Every enemy in the chasm is an illusion created by the Plasm Wraith; when killed, they disintegrate into plasm. If these creatures are not killed, the Mysterious Life Form will envelop and digest them in its body when it reaches them.
- The Mysterious Life Form and the Pikmin carrying Olimar will always follow Brittany; this can be utilized to buy time. If Brittany is down, they will instead follow Charlie, then Alph.
- Many of the paths in the chasm are loops, so while Alph and Charlie are figuring out the puzzle, Brittany can go around in circles to distract the Mysterious Life Form.
- If Pikmin are enveloped by the Mysterious Life Form, they can be freed by continuously whistling at them. However, if the creature recaptures Olimar while any Pikmin are inside it, they will all instantly die.
- If the beast manages to recapture Olimar, it will stop following Brittany and try to leave the cave via the hole found at the beginning of the level. When being attacked, it will occasionally release an Elemental Plasm. After having sustained enough damage, the Mysterious Life Form will drop Olimar and will remain immobilized until its health gauge refills, allowing the crew an opportunity to escape.
- The Mysterious Life Form can take shortcuts through some walls. This is most noticeable with the wall between the room with the bridge fragments and Arachnode, and the room with the Red Bulborb.
- If it cannot get to Olimar (for instance, if he is on a pond), it will chase after the closest leader instead.
- If it is really close, call the Pikmin carrying Olimar and let it get him. When it does, attack it, and as soon as it breaks, take advantage of it standing still and run away.
Once the Pikmin carrying Olimar exit the cave, all the captains and Pikmin will appear in an arena outside. The Mysterious Life Form eventually reaches the exit as well, and upon doing so, will revert to its original humanoid shape and inhale all of its scattered plasm, growing to an immense size. It will then inhale and secure Olimar inside its body, and the final battle begins.
Phase 2: Plasm Wraith [ ]
Upon ambushing the captains and the Pikmin at the bottom of the Formidable Oak and absorbing Olimar, the Plasm Wraith gains a physical body and the final battle begins. The Plasm Wraith attacks by creating needles from its arms and skewering Pikmin on them, before consuming them through its mouth (the hole on its face). Rock Pikmin are the only Pikmin type immune to skewering, making them the best choice while fighting the Plasm Wraith.
After enough damage is dealt, the Plasm Wraith shakes off the Pikmin, as well as pieces of its body. The Plasm Wraith absorbs the pieces that it lost after a specific time, regaining health, but destroying the pieces will prevent it from absorbing them. After enough health is torn from its health bar, the Plasm Wraith will then eject an elemental power made of pieces, which can only be destroyed by a certain Pikmin type: a fire pit (Red Pikmin), an electrical barrier (Yellow Pikmin), a giant water bubble (Blue Pikmin), or a crystal cube (Rock Pikmin).
The Plasm Wraith may also take flight and aim at the Pikmin on the ground, but can be slammed down by enough Winged Pikmin. After its health bar is fully drained, the Plasm Wraith will spit Olimar out before retreating back into the Formidable Oak.
Other Media [ ]
Super smash bros. series [ ].
The Plasm Wraith appears as a trophy in Smash Bros. for Wii U , which can be used during Smash Tour as an item that heals the user whenever they block an attack while shielded. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate , the Plasm Wraith appears as a primary neutral type spirit. It is only obtainable by summoning it using the cores of Hakkun , Eddy, and any two neutral type spirits. While powerful, its ability decreases running speed.
- The Plasm Wraith is one of the three Pikmin final bosses to survive, the others being the Leech Hydroe and the Ancient Sirehound.
- Yellow Pikmin are the only Pikmin type required to complete the Mysterious Life-Form phase.
- The Plasm Wraith is one of the three enemies and second final boss to use all main elemental hazards, after the Titan Dweevil and before the Ancient Sirehound.
- The Plasm Wraith's footsteps and roar can be heard at the end of the "At the Oak" secret file video and "Olimar's Expedition Log: Oak Survey" from the Olimar's Assignment side story, implying that it captured Olimar shortly after his arrival at the Formidable Oak.
- If the player hits the Mysterious Life Form with the iron ball found in the cave, it will be stunned for a brief period of time.
- The Mysterious Life Form completely passes through Candypop Buds as if they do not exist.
- While the Mysterious Life Form is reviving, lullaby-like music can be heard coming from it.
- Defeating the Plasm Wraith in Pikmin 3 Deluxe unlocks the "Safe and Sound" badge.

Plasm wraith video walkthrough.
This video shows one method of defeating the Plasm Wraith with 0 Pikmin deaths! Note that although all Pikmin were drawn out just in case, this boss can be defeated entirely using Rock Pikmin alone.
How to Beat the Plasm Wraith
These steps are the premise of battling with the Plasm Wraith, the boss of the Formidable Oak. As the final boss of Pikmin 3, defeating it will allow you to rescue Captain Olimar and complete the Story Mode.
While all Pikmin will play a role in this battle, rock pikmin are especially useful, as they can't be killed by most of the Plasm Wraith's attacks (other than the elemental cores). Bring a ton of them, and make sure to have at least 10 of each of the other type. A
Also, as the final fight, use your ultra-spicy spray liberally here. We recommend using it on your rock pikmin right after the battle starts.
Divide into two teams
First of all, you should split up into two groups. In one group, you'll want at least 30 rock pikmin (though having 60 doesn't hurt), and then at least 10 of each other type of pikmin in the second group. As mentioned above, the rock pikmin are unhurt by the boss's punching attack, so you will want to rely on them primarily if you are going for a 0 death run.
In fact, almost the entire battle can be fought with rock pikmin alone , though it is nice to have other pikmin to help out with the elemental cores. When not using this team, keep them near the tunnel that leads to the S.S. Drake, as it will keep them safe from harm.
Attack the Plasm Wraith's smaller pieces
After having your pikmn all charge at the Plasm Wraith, pieces of its body will fall off. Having your pikmin attack these as they come off is the primary way of damaging this enemy. For this part of the battle, charge at the Plasm Wraith (from behind if possible), call your pikmin, then dismiss them all near the fallen pieces to chip away at its health.
It regenerates HP if you dont destroy the pieces
If you leave the Plasm Wraith's behind for too long without destroying them, the Plasm Wraith will reabsorb them and regenerate HP. To quickly attack these, gather your pikmin, walk into an area surrounded by the fallen pieces, then Dismiss your pikmin to have them immediately start attacking it for you . This will be a bit faster than using the Charge command.
Determine the elemental type and attack the core
Once its HP gets to about 70%, it will begin to send out elemental cores. The cores it creates will be one of the four types below, so use the appropriate pikmin to attack the core, which will allow you to break the Plasm Wraith's pieces and deal damage. If the core type is not crystal, you will need to switch to the other team and come in for an attack.
If you prefer to play it safe, you can just avoid attacking the cores until a crystal one comes out, as this will allow you to avoid losing other pikmin. Just keep in mind that fire, electric, and water cores can kill your rock pikmin , so whistle for them right away if they are hit by it.
Elemental Cores will be Electric, Fire, Water, or Crystal
Use yellow pikmin for the electric core, red pikmin for the fire core, blue pikmin for the water core, and rock pikmin for the crystal core. If the crystal core falls on any non-rock pikmin, it will kill them , so watch out! For the most part, you can use the 10 pikmin on the other team to attack a core, then immediately retreat to safety with those pikmin.
Use winged pikmin when it flies in the air
With its HP at about 50%, the Plasm Wraith may fly into the air while putting out two cores. You can continue using the same strategy as before, but is also possible to attack the Plasm Wraith in the air by having winged pikmin charge at it. Once again, retreat to safety after bringing it down.
Damage it by attacking the three cores
At about 30%, the Plasm Wraith will begin to make three cores at a time. For the most part the strategy is the same, but be extra careful not to have your pikmin killed by an element they cannot handle. This part can be extremely dangerous if you don't exert caution, so you once again may wish to only attack crystal cores when they show up, while avoiding the others.
Attack the Plasm Wraith's body and destroy the pieces like in the beginning to finish off the fight. After it loses enough HP, you will defeat the last boss and complete the game.
Plasm Wraith Defeat Bosses! Mission
Mission information, prioritize plucking rock pikmin at the start.
If you have Pikmin attack the Plasm Wraith, it will throw off fragments of its body. However, the Plasm Wraith uses a piercing attack, which will kill any Pikmin except for Rock Pikmin. Therefore, pluck a bunch of these to start off!
It's fine to pluck the other Pikmin afterward as well, but you don't have to. However, having the Winged Pikmin ready to attack the Plasm Wraith when it takes flight will be a big help.
Use the correct Pikmin type to break the cores
Just like in the Story Mode, you'll have to break the Plasm Wraith's elemental cores. Having the wrong Pikmin go near a core of a different elemental type can be dangerous, but the crystal cores in particular can crush any non-Rock Pikmin , so watch out!
When the Plasm Wraith takes flight, it is the Winged Pikmin's chance to shine.

The Plasm Wraith is the final boss of Pikmin 3 , and is the one responsible for capturing Captain Olimar . It is a virtually featureless, vaguely-humanoid being made entirely out of a golden cellular protoplasmic mass, which allows it to split different parts of its body off to create other semi-independent entities. It is fought in the Formidable Oak . Even if only one Plasm Wraith is seen in Pikmin 3 , it can be considered as its own species.

History [ ]
Pikmin 3 [ ], olimar's arrival [ ].
When Olimar first arrived at the Formidable Oak, he saw a gold, shiny substance at the top of the tower, and decided to investigate. Louie expressed discomfort and chose to stay behind, letting Olimar go on ahead without him.
Capturing Olimar [ ]
Olimar's stumbled across the Plasm Wraith during the his exploration of the Oak, at first, the creature was curious and playful towards Olimar and did no harm to him. However, when Olimar tried to leave, the creature became aggressive, triggering his suit's auto-sleep function and dragging him back to its cave. It became protective of Olimar to the point that it would attack anything that showed interest in him. The exact reason for this bizarre behavior remains unknown.
Rescuing Olimar [ ]
When Captain Charlie , Alph and Brittany reached the Oak with the hope of finding Olimar who found the Cosmic Drive Key of the S.S Drake , the only means for the Koppaites to leave PNF-404 , they stumbled across him, asleep and protected by the Plasm Wraith.
When the group draw near the Plasm Wraith to save the Captain, the creature enter a defensive state and absorb Olimar to act as his shield, the group dispatch the protoplasm surrounding the Hocotatian and start their escape believing that the Plasm Wraith was Killed.
Escaping the Formidable Oak [ ]
Brittany goes ahead with Olimar carried by Pikmins while the two remaining Captains search for more information about what just happened only to found a note written by Olimar about the "Mysterious Life Form", the two Captain then decide to follow Brittany and the Pikmin within the Oak only to be greeted by a larger version of the "Mysterious Life Form", after supposing that it is another member of the Plasm Wraith's species, their scientific tools reveal that it is the exact same Life Form, meaning that the Plasm Wraith is "Immortal", the Capitains in panic decide to flee from the Oak while being chased by the Plasm Wraith.
Fighting the Plasm Wraith [ ]
Once the Capitains succeed in escaping the Oak with Olimar, the Plasm Wraith emerge from the inside of the Oak, take a humanoid form and absorb Olimar for a second time, forcing the group to fight the entity back.
Escaping PNF-404 [ ]
Once defeated, the Plasm Wraith is confirmed to be alive and unharmed (the same way he came back after his first defeat) during the cut-scene where the S.S Drake leave the planet for good.
Super Smash Bros. [ ]
Super smash bros. for nintendo 3ds/wii u [ ].
Trophy of the Plasm Wraith as seen in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U .
- A mysterious life-form in the Formidable Oak, the final area of Pikmin 3. Formed from a gelatinous substance, it normally can't be damaged at all...but with Olimar newly rescued, maybe he holds the key. When it takes humanoid form, it unleashes some terrifying attacks! You'll need all your skills to take it down and finish the game!
In Smash Tour [ ]
In Smash Tour, the Plasm Wraith is a red item. A player using Plasm Wraith at the beginning of a battle will cause them to heal damage when they block attacks with their shield, like the Shield Healer equipment effect.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate [ ]
The Plasm wraith is featured as an Ace Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and as such, it can be used to customize playable characters.
- The Plasm Wraith's Japanese name is "Amenyuudou", which can be a portmanteau of "amoeba" (written in katakana like "ameba"), an unicellular organism usually found in water, or "ame", which means "rain", and "Nyūdō" (入道) which means "priest" or "monk". Its name could also be an allusion to Wanyūdō, the guardian of the gates of Hell in Japanese mythology.
- This patern was then used for other bosses from Hey! Pikmin and onward.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe: How to Beat Plasm Wraith Boss
The final boss of Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the Plasm Wraith, and beating it will require every captain and Pikmin on deck for the climactic battle.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe is filled with a variety of tricky enemies and bosses that players will need to utilize their captains and Pikmin against. The game's final boss, the Plasm Wraith, is no exception to face in the Formidable Oak. Spoilers ahead for the ending of Pikmin 3 Deluxe .
As the Plasm Wraith is the final boss of Pikmin 3 Deluxe , there are many different tasks such as collecting fruit that can be done before it. Players are free to take their time raising Pikmin and doing whatever they feel is necessary to prepare. However, players still need to keep an eye on how much juice they have in their storage.
RELATED: Pikmin 3 Deluxe: How to Use Camera for Shutterbug Badge
In order to unlock the location of the Plasm Wraith, players will first need to save Louie from the Quaggled Mireclops in the Garden of Hope. This will allow players to travel to the Formidable Oak in order to save Captain Olimar .
When coming to the Formidable Oak, players will find the Plasm Wraith trying to absorb Olimar, causing them to attack the creature with their Pikmin. After that, players will need to get through the Plasm Wraith's Mysterious Life Form phase as they are chased through caves.
Once players manage to get to the bottom of the cave system, the Mysterious Life Form will recapture Olimar and turn into the Plasm Wraith. Players are recommended to have a team of mostly, if not all, Rock Pikmin with the captain initially going into the battle. However, it is also recommended for players to have at least one captain on the side with a team of all other Pikmin types due to later phases of the battle.
Players will need to throw Pikmin at the Plasm Wraith's stomach in order to cause its exterior to fall off. Then, players will need to have the Pikmin attack the fallen pieces on the ground, or else the boss will reabsorb its health. The reason why Rock Pikmin are recommended is due to its needle arm attack that will skewer any other Pikmin. The more knocked off its body, however, the smaller in size the Plasm Wraith will get.
After the Plasm Wraith loses a quarter of its health, it will spew large plasm puddles around the arena before spitting out a cube. This cube has an elemental hazard, so it is wise to call away all Pikmin when this phase begins. Players will need to bring out specific Pikmin types in order to fight different hazards:
- Bubble of water surrounding cube - Blue Pikmin
- Molten cube with floor of fire - Red Pikmin
- Electric barrier and high in the air - Yellow Pikmin
- Glass cube - Rock Pikmin
After players destroy one of these cubes, it will leave behind more plasm. Players need to destroy this before 20 seconds pass, or else the Plasm Wraith will reabsorb it. When it's down to a quarter of its health, the boss will create three cubes at once as well as gain a new flying form that can only be targeted by Flying Pikmin .
Once the Plasm Wraith's health turns red, it will begin to run away instead of attack. The less health it has, the faster it will become. Once it is defeated, players will have officially beaten Pikmin 3 Deluxe .
Pikmin 3 Deluxe is available now for Nintendo Switch.

Day 24 - Plasm Wraith
Exploration Day 24 , or the day after the path to the final boss is cleared, should be focused solely on getting to the final boss as quick as possible so the rest of the day can deal with defeating the boss.
Exploration day 24.
The day begins where our Exploration Day 23 guide left off. Your timing is unlikely to be exactly the same as ours, so check that page out for any missing info you need.
The narrow path just adjacent to the tunnel where you entered the cavern leads up to the bridge. Across the bridge you'll encounter a circuit that needs closing. Use Yellow Pikmin to light the bulb.
Nearby, flowers are blooming, Cross them and throw a crew member and 10 Yellow Pikmin across the expanse.
Close the final circuit.
Blooming flowers now provide access to the entire upper level of the cavern.
Cross the long bridge of flowers depicted on the right above.
As you rush up this hill you'll see a Dirt Mound . If you're gathering Secret Memos, dig here.
Memo 9 is inside.
One final gate stands between you and escape. Reduce it as quickly as possible.
Rush up and outside.
Freedom at last!
Of course, it's not going to be that easy. The boss attacks!
The final boss isn't to difficult if you keep your head. He throws sections of his body at you which spawn elemental attacks. These sections then rejoin with his core to help him regenerate.
You have two options in dealing with him: destroy the elemental sections he throws off with appropriate Pikmin (Red for fire, Rock for crystal, Blue for water, Yellow for electric), or simply dodge the attacks and focus fire on his main body until her wears down.
When he breaks into a flying form, used WInged Pikmin to bring him back to earth.
Keep rallying Pikmin, and don't be afraid to run up the hill and grab more Pikmin from the Onion Ship mid-battle. This fight is as much endurance as skill.
Use the last of your Spicy Essence.
Late in the fight the boss's attacks get pretty intense. Pikmin may die in droves. Just concentrate on reducing those last slivers of life on the main body.
When the boss falls, Olimar is saved.
Your reward awaits.
And Louie is hungry.
