Pacer Information

The Pacer is a 3.8m one design sloop rigged family dinghy, complete with spinnaker. The Pacer is the ideal performance family yacht, it has a lightweight hull, capable of high planing speed. Its wide beam and not excessive amount of sail allows this performance to be had by husband/wife or parent/child. It is safe and stable as well as being one of the most attractive yachts on the water.

Pacers are easily built using the stitch and glue method, assisted by a jig to create an accurate hull shape. It can also be purchased in low maintenance fibreglass. The Pacer is light enough for two people to lift and may be car-topped for transportation.

Many clubs and sailing schools use Pacers as their training fleets, they are ideal for beginners and experienced alike and are sailed by all ages. They may be rowed or fitted with a small outboard motor, a great family all-rounder.

Pacers are used for the "Epiglass Australian Secondary School Teams Racing Championships" the "Australian University Games Team Racing" and the "Australian F1 Grand Prix Interschool Challenge Teams Racing".

Yacht Assagai, Owned by Jean Bernard De Milito (from Belgium)and skippered by Jean Van de Pitte have announced their entry in the MBR. Assagai is a Pacer 42, a well proven design for offshore sailing. They will be racing with a crew of 6 aboard. The boat is currently having work done in readiness for the event. New to the racing scene, this particular boat is still an unknown, so it will be interesting to follow their progress in this event.

We’re happy to announce that Rzhev ’42 Gold is the 6 th Panzer Campaigns Gold release.

Rzhev ’42 is one of the more underplayed games in the Panzer Campaign series. Of interest though, this Zhukov led offensive was viewed by the Soviets as every bit as critical as the Stalingrad counter offensive that launched at the same time. The linkage to Stalingrad is evident by the planetary names used for each operation. Operation Mars and Jupiter were used at Rzhev, while Operations Uranus and Saturn were around Stalingrad and on the Don. These major operations kicked off within a week or two of each other. The Rzhev operation started in horrendous weather conditions and hoped to emulate the successes that were being achieved at Stalingrad.

Like Smolensk ’41, Stalingrad ’42, Moscow ’42, Kharkov ‘42 & Minsk ’44 Gold releases, the new Gold version of Rzhev ’42 includes the following updates and upgrades;

The game code will now be standardized on the JTS codebase. There will be no further support for the HPS version

All new ‘complete’ game map

All new 2D & 3D map graphics

All new unit graphics and counters on map

All new unit cards

All new in game sounds; weapon, explosion, background and miscellaneous

Brand new Alternate scenarios created using Volcano Man values. Rzhev ’42 was the one title that never had Volcano Man Alternate scenarios created for it

New ‘modern’ toolbar icons

Code update – disruption no longer halves movement during the day and is reduced by one third at night.

Code update – reinforcement ‘place all’ has been migrated across from the First World War Campaign series.

UK says Channel crossings on small boats hit a record this winter

C hannel arrivals on small boats to the UK hit a record in the first quarter of 2024 with a nearly 42 percent rise over last year, the interior ministry said Monday.

British officials processed 5,373 migrants landing on the shores of southeast England in the first three months of the year after crossing the Channel in small vessels, it said.

This compares to 3,793 making the perilous journey from January to March in 2023 -- a 41.7 percent rise and the highest figure ever for the opening quarter of any year.

Nearly 800 arrived on 16 small boats over just the Easter weekend.

This is a serious political problem for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a general election year, after the embattled Conservative leader repeatedly vowed to "stop the boats".  

He claimed to be succeeding when the annual total fell by around a third last year, but the trend has reversed dramatically so far in 2024.

Sunak is facing a daunting task keeping his Tories -- in power since 2010 -- in charge after the next election, which he must call at some point this year.

After nearly two years lagging well behind the main Labour opposition, two weekend surveys showed a further deterioration in support for the Conservatives.

One study, involving more than 18,000 voters in multiple polls over recent weeks, forecasts the party will suffer its worst election defeat in history, reduced to just 80 MPs while Labour wins a record 470.

The small boat arrivals, and broader concerns among some voters about levels of immigration, are blamed for contributing to the predicted exodus of former Tory voters. 

The interior ministry has said that smugglers organising the Channel crossings are adapting their methods, using bigger boats and packing more people.

Interior Minister James Cleverly told the BBC this week that the government is now "going after the boats upstream in the supply chain".

Sunak is also pushing ahead with controversial proposals to deter the cross-Channel journeys by trying to deport some asylum seekers to Rwanda.

The UK Supreme Court blocked the plan over safety fears but the government has introduced contentious legislation to override that by declaring Rwanda "safe" and agreeing a new treaty with the east African country.

Flights could take off within months if lawmakers approve the draft law in the coming weeks.
