A shore-based position is ideal for someone who is new to the industry and hopes to gain the necessary experience to work as Lead Crew or similar in years to come.  It is ideal for those with trade skills who like the idea of working in the Greek Islands and enjoy the associated challenges of working with yachts.

You must be flexible in your attitude, have a strong work ethic and be able to work unsupervised.  You will be dealing with clients regularly and so you must be polite, approachable and have a tidy appearance at all times.   You will need to be able to work as a part of a team, communicate well with others (both clients and staff) and assist others whenever necessary.

To be a part of our Shore-based team you'll need to have a minimum of an ICC qualification.

The shore-based role is split into 3 sections throughout the year.  The main role of shore-based staff is to support the flotilla lead crews to make the season run as smoothly as possible, for both the clients and the company.  As a member of the shore-based team, you will be expected to fill in as flotilla lead crew should the need arise.  It is an ideal position for those wanting to up-skill with the intention of becoming lead crew or working in the super-yacht industry in the future.

1. Build Up

‘Build-Up’ is the name for the months spent getting the boats ready for the start of the season. The first clients arrive in early May and the boats must be immaculate so ‘Build-Up’ is a very busy time.

The shore-based staff perform a variety of roles during this period, all based around supporting the lead crews and getting the boats ready.  The jobs you will be assigned are based on your experience and skills and may range from polishing propellers to working with the boat building team.  We have extensive workshop facilities at the store in Tzavros where you may be working at times (about ten minutes’ drive from the marina).

There is a wood workshop, fiberglass and lamination section, metal fabrication shop and an engineering workshop.  We do all repairs and maintenance in-house so there are plenty of opportunities to learn new skills.

Your tasks may include:

• Hoisting/Bending sails • Assisting with engine rebuilds/fittings • Refitting yacht interiors • Replacing cutlass bearings • Assisting engineers with repairs • Cleaning and fitting of holding tanks • Repairing dinghies • Repairing/replacing deck fittings • General Yacht maintenance

2. The Sailing Season

The charter season begins at the start of May and finishes at the end of October.  As shore-based staff, you will work from 9am-5pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday.  Tuesday and Wednesday are your days off. On Saturday and Sunday, we start work at 08:30 and work until everything is finished and the new clients have arrived.   Part of the responsibility of being shore-based is that there may be occasions where you are asked to do a yacht delivery or a ‘call-out’ to assist with a break-down on your day off - we try to operate these on a roster system where possible. Ultimately all shore based staff are being trained up during the season to cover flotilla staff or take over if necessary

We have one week and two week flotillas, based out of 5 ports – Plataria, Sivota, Nidri, Astros, and the Sporades.  Every Saturday, you will travel to one of our bases to assist with ‘turnaround’ day. This is when the old clients leave and the new arrive.  It is the busiest day of the week as we have a limited amount of time to get the boats back up to charter standard.

Your turnaround tasks may include:

• Airport transfers • Assisting with diesel filling • Filling yacht water tanks • Scrubbing decks and cockpits • Tidying cockpit lockers • Replacing inventory • Assisting lead crews with repairs • Fitting clients with lifejackets • Assisting novice clients on first day sailing 

We offer a service called an "Extra Pair of Hands" to our clients that are new to sailing where one of our staff members will join the clients for a day (or two) who will teach clients the basics about sailing on a flotilla holiday. All of our Shore-based staff will be expected to know how to sail before the sailing season begins so that they can offer a helping hand to our clients during the summer. 

After the flotillas have left port on Monday, you will travel back up to Corfu.

Monday afternoon is spent unloading and sorting all the returns from the flotilla bases and starting repairs or continuing with on-going jobs.  Thursday and Friday are business as usual.  Your weekday tasks may include:

• Repairing engine spare parts • Splicing • Repairing dinghys • Maintaining and cleaning spare yachts • Yacht deliveries

Lay-up, at the end of the season, normally lasts for two weeks.  During this period all the yachts are prepared for the winter.  All shore-based staff are allocated to assist a lead crew in the winterisation of their fleet.  You will be responsible for ensuring the correct winterisation and safe return of all fleet inventory to the store.

• Washing and folding of sails • Lifting of yachts • Laying up of engines • Removal of guard-rails and anchors • Transportation of inventory to the store • Sorting and packing a large amount inventory for the winter at the store

Basic Safety Training (BST)

The aim of the Basic Safety Training (BST) is to provide key safety and survival skills for personnel starting their career at sea. The course comprises of 4 core modules:

• Personal Survival Techniques  (A-VI/1-1); • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (A-VI/1-2); • Elementary First Aid  (A-VI/1-3); • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility  (A-VI/1-4); • Some centers also include Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers (STCW code Reg. A-VI/6-1) these days.

Course Content:

• Sea survival techniques including launch of life raft, use of safety equipment, swimming practices. • Ship fire prevention theory and practice with the use of different types of firefighting equipment and breathing apparatus. Self rescue from smoke filled spaces training. • First aid practices with the premium on CPR, various methods of bandaging, transportation of injured and emergency help without the required equipment or drugs. • Personal Safety and Social Responsibly module covers such issues as safety at the working space and accident prevention as well as emergency alarm raising and signaling. There is also set devoted to employee rights, working conditions and labor related regulations. • Where Security Awareness module is present in the syllabus it provides skills to recognize dangers and patterns that might threaten security of the vessel or the crew and familiarizes with response scenarios.

Target Audience:  Mandatory for all ranks.

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.

The exposition space increased up to 30 000 sq m and was accommodated in all 4 exhibition halls of the fairgrounds! 280 Russian (Arkhangelsk, Vyborg, Kazan, Kaluga, Republic of Karelia, Moscow and Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yaroslavl region) and foreign ( Denmark , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , Poland , USA , Turkey , Ukraine, Finland , France , Montenegro and Croatia ) companies participate in the show.

Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!

Unique exhibits were presented at the show for the first time: exposition of private submarines from U-Boat Russia company, Marquis Yachts 420 SB motor yacht from Sport Bridge S. Marine series, SAGA-415 yacht from Saga Boats Norwegian shipyard, Jetlev-Flyer from MS Watersports.

Moscow Boat Show a Great Success

More than 400 yachts were displayed within the frames of the event including the largest boats ever exhibited in Russia – the 19-meter giant motor yacht Princess 54 as well as the Princess 50 yacht from Nord Marine and Baja speed boat from Burevestnik.

Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.

The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show. Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspection on Small size Vessels (GIMS) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, Georguiy Shaiduko, Acting President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), Olympic champion in Atlanta and Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show also spoke at the ceremony.

The high-ranking guests noted dynamic development of the branch which well reasoned the intensive growth of the exposition and appearance of rather unique “gems”.

A number of business meetings and negotiations were held within the frames of the project: the exhibition was visited by a large delegation of Greek businessmen for the purpose of establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Russian colleagues.

More than 400 yachts on display at the Show

Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.

Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.

The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.

Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.

The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.
