The 25.91m/85' sail yacht 'Mini Y' was built by Baltic Yachts in Finland. Her interior is styled by design house Mark Whiteley Design and she was delivered to her owner in October 2018. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Dixon Yacht Design and she was last refitted in 2024.

Guest Accommodation

Mini Y has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 4 guests in 2 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 2 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Mini Y is built with a carbon fibre hull and carbon fibre superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by 1 x diesel Volvo 180hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 1,000 nautical miles from her 2,000 litre fuel tanks. Her water tanks store around 1,400 Litres of fresh water. She was built to DNV (Det Norske Veritas) classification society rules.

BALTIC 85 MINI Y

This fast, easy to handle cruising yacht was successfully launched in July 2018. Designed by Dixon Yacht Design, which has a particular affinity for the requirements of yachts intended for comfortable cruising, the silver-hulled Baltic 85 Custom has shown an impressive turn of speed.

Displacing just 50 tons, light-ship, she’s constructed of an E-Glass outer skin, a carbon inner skin and a foam core with lightweight carbon bulkheads and panels used throughout. A telescopic lifting keel with an 11.39-ton bulb reduces draft to a useful 3m.

Through detailed space planning and a high quality specification, this mini-superyacht has not compromised on comfort. She offers genuinely exciting sailing with ease of handling, which should appeal to the growing number of clients looking for a greater level of simplicity in a superyacht.

The yacht’s accommodation, with clean, modern styling by Mark Whiteley Design, includes a light and airy saloon, a large owner’s suite forward with one twin guest cabin all finished in a beautiful pear wood. Detailed planning has resulted in an unusually large amount of space for the owners and their guests giving the impression below of a much larger yacht.

26m Baltic Yachts sloop Mini Y joins market

The 26-metre Baltic Yachts sloop Mini Y is newly listed for sale with Charles Carveles and Alex Busher of Edmiston.

Her silver hull and superstructure were built of carbon-fibre composite, in accordance with DNV classification rules, in Finland and delivered from Baltic Yachts in 2018. The Baltic 85 model was designed in the UK by naval architect Bill Dixon with interior by Mark Whiteley.

Mini Y accommodates four guests in two cabins, comprising an owner's double forward of the mast and a guest twin cabin to port, just aft of the saloon. There are quarters for a crew of two in a pair of cabins aft.

Carbon bulkheads and panels are used throughout but there is plenty of wood veneer giving a feeling of warmth. The saloon, illuminated by the wraparound window and elliptical hull ports, has an L-shaped seating area to port and dining table to starboard. Aft of the dining table is the galley that leads on through to the crew mess, also accessible via the aft deck.

On deck, guests can enjoy the cockpit with its fold-out table, while the helmsman has the choice of two wheels, offering excellent visibility forward. The guest cockpit can be completely covered for protection while racing, the navigation instruments still visible on the aft face.

Motoring under her Volvo engine, the 73GT yacht for sale has a top speed of 10.5 knots and cruising speed of 9.5 knots. Sailing, with her recently-serviced set of North Sails, Mini Y can reach 15 knots, although the official figure in the specification is 11 knots.

Displacing just 50 tonnes, her draft varies from 2.95 metres, with her bulb keel lifted, to 4.3 metres. A RIB tender is stowed in the garage which is accessed via the opening transom, which in turn forms a boarding or swim platform. The passerelle also neatly retracts into this space.

Lying in Mataró, Spain, Mini Y is asking €7,250,000 with VAT Paid.

The silver-hulled mini luxury sloop BALTIC 85 MINI Y is designed with an emphasis on performance as a cruising sloop and was created by naval architects Bill Dixon Yacht Design to be easy to sail short-handed. The sloop rig with a removable inner forestay combined with a lifting keel providing excellent power and responsiveness under sail.

The interiors from Mark Whiteley Design boast a spacious living room and accommodation for up to 6 guests over a Master suite and two further guest cabins. 3D modelling and the Owners’ extensive history of sailing resulted in an invaluable input in planning the interiors, with engineering and technical spaces dedicated to a bank of 30 Lithium-ion 24-volt service batteries with a large 2200 amp/hr capacity.

The Baltic 85 Custom is constructed using an E glass outer skin, a carbon inner and a foam core. As a result, sailing yacht Y has a displacement of only 50 tonnes when she is trimmed back.

MINI Y yacht reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots under sail and when powered by her Volvo D4 – 180 engine, she reaches a top speed of 10.5 knots.

Orcas attack, sink sailing yacht in Strait of Gibraltar

In a frightening attack that has become a trend in the past four years, an unknown number of orcas rammed and sank a sailing yacht in Moroccan waters in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain’s maritime rescue service reported early this week. They said they did not know how many of the apex predators were in on the attack.

The Alboran Cognac, a 15-meter (49-foot) yacht, was carrying two people when the boat encountered the animals, also known as killer whales, at 9 a.m. local time (7:00 GMT) on Sunday.

The passengers said they felt sudden blows to the hull and rudder as water started seeping into the ship, according to NBC News. After calling for rescue services, the passengers fled to a nearby oil tanker that took them to Gibraltar.

The yacht eventually sank.

The incident was the latest report of orca ramming around the Gibraltar Strait that separates Europe from Africa and off the Atlantic coast of Portugal and northwestern Spain. A research group called GTOA, which tracks populations of the Iberian orca subspecies, said there have been nearly 700 interactions since orca attacks on ships in the area were first reported in May 2020, NBC News reported .

Experts are confused about the probable causes. One theory is that it is a playful manifestation of the animals’ natural curiosity. Others believe it may be a fad among the highly social orcas, or deiberate targeting of what they believe to be competitors for their favorite prey, the bluefin tuna.

Experts believe the attacks involve a subpopulation of about 15 orcas that have been given the designation Gladis, Reuters reported .

After Orcas Sink Another Yacht, Researcher Says They're Probably Just Playing

Following news of the latest boat sunk by orcas in the waters near the Strait of Gibraltar, a killer whale researcher is warning that the incidents may be misunderstood.

News outlets ( including HuffPost ) have used the word “attack” to describe a spate of events in which orcas have damaged vessels in the waters around Morocco, Portugal and Spain. But Monika Wieland Shields, co-founder and director of the nonprofit Orca Behavior Institute, argued the term is misleading in an MSNBC opinion piece published Thursday.

“When I watch the videos of these so-called attacks, I see something completely different,” Shields wrote.

Rather than an act of aggression, “it looks like another behavior we often see killer whales engage in: play.”

On Tuesday, a group of orcas slammed into the hull and damaged the rudder of a 50-foot sailing yacht off the coast of Morocco. The people aboard were rescued and the vessel was left to sink. It was the fifth time orcas have sunk a boat in the region in recent years, The New York Times reported . There have been dozens of other incidents of damage, though no human deaths.

Shields said “from the whale’s perspective,” it makes sense that they often go after rudders.

“Rudders move and, when humans try to regain steering control, show resistance,” she wrote. “It’s probably more like a game of tug-of-war than a maliciously motivated attack.”

Orcas are highly intelligent and social animals, which means they have “a unique capacity for amusement and playfulness,” she wrote. It also means that new behaviors and fads spread easily among social groups. For example, during a brief in a period in the late 1980s, many orcas near Washington state began wearing dead salmon on their heads , like hats.

Shields’ view is in line with what other orca experts have theorized.

“What I think is probably happening is it’s a playful behavior,” Dr. Deborah Giles, science director at research and advocacy group Wild Orca, said last year . “It’s a social behavior.”

However, one non-playful possibility has gone particularly viral . Biologist Alfredo López Fernandez suggested in a 2022 paper that it all may have started after a female orca known as “White Gladis” had a traumatic encounter with a boat, then began to act in a defensive manner towards other boats.

That theory helped fuel online support for “team orca,” with many people on social media casting the killer whales as revolutionaries fighting back against human destruction of the natural world.

While Shields doesn’t buy the White Gladis theory, she thinks it’s worth examining why people find the idea of an orca uprising so compelling.

“We recognize that we have done enough to the world to deserve orcas attacking us in response,” she wrote.

Killer whales attack and sink 50-foot yacht in Strait of Gibraltar: Spanish officials

A pod of killer whales attacked and sunk a yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar, between Spain and Morocco, officials confirmed to ABC News.

Two people were on board the vessel when the incident occurred Sunday at 9 a.m. local time, according to Spain's maritime authority.

The nearly 50-foot yacht, named The Alboran Cognac, was 15 miles from Cabo Espartel in Morocco when an unknown number of orcas began ramming it.

The couple alerted Spanish authorities and a rescue team arrived to extricate them from the vessel an hour after the attack, though officials were unable to salvage the sinking boat.

There have been approximately 700 orca attacks since 2020, according to GT Orca Atlantica, a conservation group, and officials believe there are more than 37 orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Strait of Gibraltar connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, separating Europe from Africa.

"During the summer and autumn of 2020, interaction events began to occur between several specimens of this species and vessels, mainly sailboats, both in the Strait of Gibraltar and in the waters of the Galician coast," according to Spanish government officials. "These interactions have ranged from persistent approaches to ships, to ramming the hull and rudder, causing various types of damage, which continue today."

It's unclear why orcas attack boats, though experts hypothesize the marine mammals could be targeting vessels for sport or they feel threatened.

According to a study in Biological Conservation , a peer-reviewed journal, "sophisticated learning abilities" have been found to exist in orcas.

In June 2023, racing yachts in the Strait of Gibraltar had a close encounter with a pod of orcas, race officials said at the time.

Crew members aboard a rival pair of 65-foot yachts were on the final leg of The Ocean Race, a global sailing competition, when they reported being intercepted by killer whales as their boats approached the Strait of Gibraltar.

No fatalities were reported in the incident, according to officials.
