20. Lionheart – $150 Million

Sir Philip Green kicks off the list with his 207-foot behemoth, Lionheart.

The British retail billionaire commissioned Italian shipbuilding company, Benetti, to build his superyacht.

The boat has six VIP rooms, several private balconies and was finished in 2016.

Lionheart has had many famous faces walking its decks, including Kate Moss , Simon Cowell and Cristiano Ronaldo .

19. Aviva – $150 Million

British billionaire Joe Lewis’s superyacht comes in at number nineteen at a cool $150 million.

His boat has a full-size tennis court and is thought to house some of his most precious and expensive art pieces, including Picasso.

When he’s not spending time in his Bahamas residence, Joe spends several months a year aboard Aviva and his other three superyachts.

18. Solandge – $180 Million

Next up, we have the $180 million dollar superyacht built by Lurssen. 

In 2017, the Solandge was the highest brokerage and is available to rent for around $1.1 million a week.

The 280-foot yacht has eight VIP suites, a grand piano and a glass art installation by Murano.

17. Ecstasea – $200 Million

Built by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in 2004, Ecstasea was the largest Feadship ever built.

The yacht is made of steel and is approximately 85.95 metres long and has a beam of 11.50 metres. This means it has a deadweight of 585 metric tons!

Ecstasea comfortably sleeps 14 passengers and has won multiple design awards for its stunning interior.

16. The Rising Sun – $200 Million

The Rising Sun was designed by Jon Bannenberg and built by Lürssen in 2004 for Larry Ellison .

It has 82 rooms over five floors, a basketball court, wine cellar and a movie theatre.

From 2010 it has been owned by David Geffen and is the 12th largest superyacht in the world, measuring 138 metres.

The Rising Sun cost $200 million to build and has since had even more money spent on luxury fixtures and fittings.

15. Octopus – $200 Million 

Designed and built in 2003 for Microsoft Co-founder, Paul Allen, Octopus has one hell of a lavish interior.

It has a large study, basketball court, recording studio, an outside bar with a whirlpool and a glass bottom swimming pool.

Octopus sleeps up to 26 guests and 56 crew members at any one time and comes equipped with two submarines and two helipads. 

14. Lady Moura – $210 Million

The next most expensive superyacht in the world is Lady Moura.

Lady Moura is owned by Saudi Arabian businessman Nasser Al-Rashid, who’s also an advisor to the Saudi Royal family.

The yacht comes with some very impressive features, such as a pool with a retractable roof, a helicopter and 24 karat gold lettering and embellishments throughout.

If that wasn’t enough, Lady Moura also features a unique sand-covered hydraulic platform that comes out of one side, to give guests a beach-like experience in the middle of the ocean.

13. Al Mirqab – $250 Million 

Al Mirqab is owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar.

The yacht has 10 bedrooms, a helipad, a swimming pool, a selection of VIP suites, an onboard cinema, jacuzzi and a variety of watersports equipment.

After it was completed in 2008, it was dubbed the second most beautiful yacht in the world.

It can accommodate up to 24 guests and comfortably house crew members in its 55 crew cabins.

12. Dilbar – $256 Million

Number twelve is Russian owned superyacht, Dilbar.

It belongs to Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, and he’s often seen using Dilbar to cruise around his private islands.

As well as being one of the most expensive yachts in the world, it’s also one of the largest – measuring a colossal 360ft in length and just over 50ft high.

It was built in 2008 by Lürssen Yachts and was named after Alisher’s mother.

Dilbar has one helipad, several swimming pools and accommodates 20 guests and 48 cabin crew.

11. Pelorus – $300 Million

Pelorus was built by Lürssen in 2003 and bought by Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich in 2004.

Since then, Pelorus has changed hands a few times and is now owned by HongKong based billionaire, Samuel Tak Lee.

Pelorus is 115 meters long and weighs a staggering 5517 tonnes.

As well as all the normal luxuries you’d expect to find onboard a superyacht of this calibre, she also comes equipped with two helipads, landing boats and jet skis.

She accommodates a full-time crew of 46, year round.

10. Serene – $300 Million

The tenth most expensive yacht in the world is the 439-foot, Serene.

Built-in 2011 by Fincantieri, for Russian billionaire Yuri Scheffler, Serene is has been one of the favourite rental yachts for the mega-rich, reportedly costing celebrities like Bill Gates around million a week!

It was purchased in 2015 by Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and sleeps around 24 guests and 52 crew members.

It comes with multiple swimming pools, two helipads, a submarine, and an amazing underwater viewing room!

9. Al Said – $300 Million

The next mega yacht on the list is owned by and named after the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos Bin Said Al Said.

Built between 2007-2008, little else is known about the Al Said, other than it has a large concert hall that’s big enough to house a 50-piece orchestra.

Also, it can host up to 70 guests, sleep a crew of 154 and reach around 22 knots!

8. Radiant – $320 Million

Built by Lürssen in 2009, Radiant is owned by Emirate Billionaire Abdulla Al Futtaim.

The superyacht is roughly 110 meters long, weighs approximately 5027 gross tons and sleeps up to 20 guests and 44 crew members.

She comes with multiple swimming pools, a helipad, a massage room, a swimming platform, a movie theatre, a gym and a jacuzzi.

The Radiant is also equipped with a highly powerful water cannon to defend herself from pirate attacks!

7. Dubai – $400 Million

Dubai is owned by the Sheik of Dubai, Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum.

Some of its features include jacuzzis, a swimming pool with handmade tiles, a helipad and a striking circular glass staircase which changes colour when lit from above.

Dubai also houses a split-level owner’s deck, several VIP and social areas, guest suites and a crew of up to 115 people.

6. Motor Yacht A – $440 Million 

This very impressive looking 390-foot superyacht was built by Blohm + Voss shipyard and launched in 2008.

It’s thought to be owned by Andrey Melnichenko, a Russian billionaire businessman and philanthropist.

Motor Yacht A can accommodate 14 guests and 42 crew members and is around 400 feet long.

It features a 2,500 sqft master bedroom, a disco, a helicopter hanger, a separate 30-foot speedboat and a glass-bottomed swimming pool.

5. Topaz – $527 Million

Coming in at number five is this stunning Lürssen built superyacht, Topaz.

She was built for Abu Dhabi tycoon, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Germany and launched in 2012.

The exterior was designed by Tim Heywood and Terrance Disdale Design did the interior.

It has a large jacuzzi on the main deck, a swimming pool, double helicopter landing pads and a state-of-the-art gym, cinema and conference room.

4. Azzam – $600 Million

This 590-foot megayacht is the world’s largest yacht to date.

Its owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi.

Lürssen Yachts are the ones behind this mega build. Azzam has its very own missile defence system, a bullet-proof master suite and can reach speeds of more than 30 knots, or 35mph, making it one of the fastest yachts on the planet!

3. Streets of Monaco – $1 Billion

The first billion-dollar yacht on our list is the “Streets of Monaco”.

By far one of the most impressive and expensive yachts in the world, once finished, the Streets of Monaco is going to be a 509-foot mega yacht, designed to feature miniature versions of some of Monaco’s and Monte Carlos most renowned landmarks.

The finished superyacht will include a go-kart circuit, three swimming pools, a mini-submarine a helipad, seven guest suites, a mini waterfall and a restaurant that with a fabulous underwater view.

2. Eclipse – $1.5 Billion 

The second most expensive yacht in the world, Eclipse, is owned by Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire has spared no expense when it comes to his superyacht.

He’s installed a private defence system, including missile detection sensors, intruder alarms and armour plating and bulletproof windows in his master bedroom. 

On top of that, Eclipse has two helipads, two swimming pools, 24 guest bedrooms, a disco hall and a mini-submarine.

It’s unclear how much Eclipse actually cost, but it is believed to be in the region of $1.5 billion!

1. History Supreme – $4.8 Billion

Topping the list of the most expensive superyachts in the world at an eye-watering $4.8 billion is History Supreme.

This magnificent accomplishment is built from 10,000 kilograms of solid gold and platinum and is 100-foot long.

It was designed by Stuart Huges, a world-renowned luxury designer, for Malaysia’s richest man, Robert Knok. The History Supreme took roughly three years to build and features an array of luxury items.

The master bedroom includes a genuine Tyrannosaurus Rex bone statue and a wall made entirely of meteorite rocks!

If that wasn’t enough, the master suite also has a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium.

Whether you’re drinking it neat or mixing it into a margarita, you probably have a favorite brand that you know tastes great.

However, some brands can get incredibly expensive, and it is these tequilas that we are counting down today.

How did we select this list of tequilas?

We’ve put over 10 hours of research into re-writing and updating this list for 2024.

The tequilas on this list were selected by taking the current average sale price, at the time of writing.

Prices for rare tequila can vary depending on where they’re listed for sale; so for each tequila on this list, we checked the price across multiple websites and settled on the average.

Next comes the question, when does tequila stop being tequila, and start being artwork?

If you’re a fan of tequila you can probably think of at least one brand that treats their bottles as artwork.

These bottles can often be worth thousands, but is it all just similar tequila in a fancy and unique bottle?

We’ve decided we’re not going to be the judge of what’s tequila and what’s artwork, so what you see on this list reflects a true order, based on price per bottle.

Tequila is a very versatile liquor and there is no shortage of varieties you can find at your local store.

That said, some of these tequilas are reserved for only the most wealthy buyers, and you certainly won’t want to drink them on a casual night out.

Without further ado, here’s our list of the 20 most expensive tequilas money can buy:

20. 1800 Coleccion Tequila

Price/Bottle: $2,000

This unique expensive tequila gets its name from the year that distillers started using oak barrels for aging, and it is owned by the insanely wealthy Beckmann family.

Distilled twice during its 10-year aging process, this tequila has a flavor reminiscent of Amaretto, but with a bolder kick that reminds you that it’s tequila.

For $2,000, this tequila comes in its own crystal decanter trimmed with pewter and securely placed in a lavish case lined with suede to protect its precious contents.

It doesn’t get much more high-end than that!

19. Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio

Price/Bottle: $2,200

Made from 100% agave, Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio is a luxury tequila that has been aged for 10 years in French oak barrels and it is limited to special batches of only 2,000 bottles per year.

While its purity does impact this tequila’s price, the bottle that it comes in also makes it more expensive.

Each bottle comes with lettering and images engraved with one of the most expensive precious metals in the world, 21-karat gold.

It definitely looks and tastes every bit worth its hefty price tag.

18. Clase Azul Extra Añejo Ultra

Price/Bottle: $2,500

The first Clase Azul product to appear on this list is the only one in regular production and not a limited edition.

Clase Azul’s extra anejo ultra is aged for 5 years in American whiskey and sherry casks.

The bottle is decorated in platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold.

You can expect to pay around $2,500 a bottle for this tequila.

17. AsomBroso Reserva del Porto Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $2800

This brandy-like tequila is the type of drink that you break out during life’s greatest milestones.

Aged for 10 years in port wine barrels from Portugal, it is mixed with a small portion of white oak-aged tequila before being bottled.

Stored in a bottle shaped like a historical decanter found in an eighteenth-century Portuguese castle, it even comes secured in its own cedar humidor.

Although this tequila usually costs $2,800, you can sometimes get lucky and find it on sale for $1,499, which is honestly a great price, all things considered.

16. AsomBroso The Collaboration 12 Year Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $3,000

AsomBroso’s The Collaboration is an extra anejo tequila, aged 12 years in Silver Oak Cellar’s American casks.

The tequila is bottled inside a crystal decanter hand-made by Luciano Gambaro, a famous Italian artist.

The decanter is then packaged in a custom-polished humidor with laser engraving.

A single bottle might set you back $3,000, but there are places where you might be able to get your hands on one for cheaper.

15. Tesla Tequila Limited Edition Anejo

Price/Bottle: $4,000

It does seem that Elon Musk can do no wrong. 

Tesla Tequila started as an April Fool’s joke but quickly became a physical product that sold out immediately.

For the limited edition variant, only 420 bottles were produced, a number that jokingly references a time when Musk said he was going to take Tesla private at $420 a share.

The numbered limited edition variant with matching shot glass is currently selling for around $4,000, whilst the regular variant can fetch up to $1,500.

14. Codigo 1530 14 Year Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $4,500

Codigo’s 1530 extra Añejo has been aged inside French White Oak Napa Valley Cabernet wine barrels for 14 years and then finished in French Cognac casks.

This is Codigo’s most expensive tequila they’ve ever produced.

A single bottle is now worth $4,500.

13. Clase Azul Pink Limited Edition Reposado

Price/Bottle: $6,000

This isn’t the first Clase Azul tequila featured on this list, and it definitely won’t be the last.

The ‘Pink’ limited edition reposado was originally released in 2016 for breast cancer awareness, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to charity.

Just 3000 bottles of the original 2016 version were produced, featuring a white bottle hand-painted with pink artwork.

There have since been one or two other ‘Pink’ breast cancer awareness releases from Clase Azul.

12. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 3

Price/Bottle: $7,500

Patron’s En Lalique Serie line the creme de la creme of their tequila. 

Whatever we have here is the Serie 3, their latest release, but it’s the least expensive of the three.

The Serie 3 contains a blend of 14 different extra anejo tequilas, aged in 6 different barrel types.

Held in a crystal hand-carved decanter, with decoration inspired by the Weber Blue Agave.

The decanter is stored inside a luxurious wooden box.

Each decanter is numbered, and given the fact that this is Patron’s latest release, you can expect the Serie 3’s price to rise over the next few years.

11. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 1 Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $8000

Patron’s En Lalique Serie 1 uses some of their oldest tequila, presented in a hand-made decanter inspired by Mexico’s Weber Blue Agave plant, topped off with an amber stopper.

Although this bottle cost $8,000, it’s not their most expensive tequila. 

Patron went one step further for their next tequila, but more on that shortly.

10. Dos Armadillos Extra Anejo Sterling Silver

Price/Bottle: $10,000

The Dos Armadillos Extra Anejo uses only an 8-year mature Blue Weber Agave.

The tequila is bottled in their signature armadillo-armored bottle, however, the armor for this edition is made entirely out of sterling silver.

$10,000 is the current price to pick up one of these bottles, a number that’s far more expensive than any other product in their range.

9. Clase Azul Puebla Limited Edition

The Clase Azul Puebla limited edition tequila was released on the 5th of May 2021, to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, or the Battle of Puebla.

Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on the 5th of May to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire in 1862.

Just 300 bottles were produced and sold with a price tag of $400.

If you wished to purchase a bottle of Puebla Limited Edition today, the price would be more along the lines of $10,000.

8. Clase Azul Dia de Muertos Limited Edition

The Dia de Los Muertos collection from Clase Azul features several individual releases, but with most of them fetching similar prices, we’ve decided to include them in one single entry.

Dia de Muertos, or ‘The Day of the Dead’ as it’s otherwise known, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated during November. 

Clase Azul has released a new edition within the Dia de Muertos line annually for the past several years.

Some of the bottle designs for the Dia de Muertos range are spectacular and tend to rise in value once they are no longer produced.

7. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 2 Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $10,500

Patron’s En Lalique Serie 2 is aged and made slowly in small batches to ensure perfect quality.

The bottle is carved crystal, featuring a crystal bee stopper with hand-painted gold accents.

It’s then placed inside a wooden box that spins to open, creating a rather luxurious effect.

We’ve seen prices ranging from $8,000 to $12,000 for this bottle, so if you’re patient you might be able to get it at a good price.

6. Clase Azul Master Artisans

Price/Bottle: $20,000

Clase Azul’s most popular and iconic tequila is their resposado tequila, housed in a blue and white bottle.

In 2021, the brand collaborated with the award-winning artist, Ángel Santos to create a hand-crafted, limited edition resposado.

The ‘Master Artisans’ line aims to highlight the work of Mexico’s most talented artists.

The Ángel Santos edition, which at launch sold for $5,000 a bottle , can now reach up to $20,000.

5. Clase Azul Jalisco 200 Limited Edition

Price/Bottle: $25,000

The Clase Azul Jalisco is an extra anejo tequila, named after Jalisco, a state in Mexico.

As the name might also suggest, only 200 bottles of this limited-edition tequila were distilled.

The tequila comes packaged inside a custom-built wooden box, which opens to reveal a drinking glass on either side.

With just 200 bottles released, getting your hands on one of these bottles isn’t cheap.

4. Clase Azul 15th Anniversary Edition

Price/bottle: $30,000.

The Clase Azul celebrated its 15th anniversary by releasing 15 limited edition bottles priced at $30,000 each.

Each of the unique bottles was handcrafted to convey the story of Mexico and all proceeds from the sale of these bottles were donated to the Fundacion con Causa Azul A.C, which supports the work of craftsmen and artisans in Mexico.

Although this tequila is no longer available for sale, we imagine that Clase Azul will release another special edition for a future anniversary, so if you want to grab a bottle, be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

3. Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario The Rolling Stones Special Edition

Price/Bottle: $75,000

Jose Cuervo was the very first legal tequila company to be established, with the company’s history dating back to 1795 .

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Case Cuervo, Jose Cuervo released the 250 Anniversario tequila.

They also released a limited edition of the tequila, in collaboration with the Rolling Stones rock band.

The Jose Cuervo brand played a leading role in the Rolling Stones’ 1972 North American tour, ‘Tequila Sunrise’.

For the Rolling Stones special edition, the tequila bottle is embossed with the famous ‘Hot Lips’ logo in 14-carat gold, and spikes along the sides.

It also comes packaged in a leather guitar-shaped case, including seven shot glasses.

The tequila was initially released with a price tag of just $4,000, but prices have skyrocketed to almost $75,000 since then.

2. Tequila Ley .925 Ultra-Premium

Price/Bottle: $225,000

In 2006, the artists at Tequila Ley designed three unique bottles to contain the tequila designed by Mexican artist Alejandro Gomez.

Each bottle was only created 33 times, for a total of 99 bottles, each more expensive than the last.

While this tequila in a glass bottle retails for $3,500, the gold and silver bottle goes for $25,000, and the gold and platinum for $150,000.

The most expensive of all was the white gold and platinum, which carried the insane price tag of $225,000!

Although the tequila itself is delectable, the real stars are the bottles that collectors and tequila enthusiasts scrambled to try and grab while they lasted.

1. Tequila Ley .925 Diamante

Price/Bottle: $3.5 Million

Recorded as the most expensive tequila ever sold by a mile, the .925 Diamante is a true work of art.

The Ley .925 Diamante tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, which is grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

The tequila is then aged for 7 years inside French Oak barrels before being poured into a platinum and white gold version of Tequila Ley’s signature-shaped bottle.

However, none of these things truly account for the Diamante’s insane price tag.

As the name might suggest, the bottle is encrusted with 4000 diamonds, amounting to a total of 18.5 carats.

Now that we’ve come to the end of the list, you might have noticed a common theme.

Clase Azul had the most entries on this list, holding seven positions in the top 20.

This is largely due to the fact they treat their bottles as artwork, often showcasing hand-painted art in limited edition releases.

That’s not to take away from their tequila, but to say that their unique approach is very popular among collectors and tequila enthusiasts alike.

They’re associated with luxury and wealth more than ever before, and cigar aficionados are constantly looking for rare and exclusive cigars to add to their collections.

This begs the question: how expensive can cigars be, and how difficult could it be to get your hands on the rarest of the rare?

Today we’re bringing you our updated list of the most expensive cigars in the world.

How did we select this list of cigars?

One of the issues with many expensive cigar lists on the internet, including the original version of our own, is how the cigar values are calculated.

For instance, there was once an auction for a very rare box of cigars that sold for more than half a million dollars, but the box consisted of almost 800 cigars. More details on that are below.

We’ve decided to thoroughly calculate the price/stick for each of the entries on this list, so you can have a clearer understanding of exactly which cigars are the most expensive in the world.

Whilst it may be difficult to obtain some of these cigars individually, assuming you’d want to obtain them of course, we think this is the best way of ranking the list.

Another thing we decided to take into account is limited edition releases which are packaged in custom humidors instead of regular boxes.

These humidors can often cost thousands of dollars alone, and end up distorting the price of the cigar.

Can people still buy these cigars?

Most of the cigars featured on this list can still be bought and smoked to this day. 

Many of them are limited edition lines and are likely harder to find than most cigars.

Limited edition productions can often limit the total number of cigars produced, and as time passes the number of those remaining drops.

A lot of rare cigar releases also use aged tobacco leaves, and you’ll see several brands on this list that age their tobacco for at least 10 years before the cigar is rolled.

Brand recognition also plays a part as particular brands such as Cohiba are always sought after.

Finally, if none of the above results in a cigar being expensive, there are a select few who will cover cigars in gold leaf, and diamonds, and infuse them with expensive cognac.

But more on that later.

We’ve done countless hours of research to ensure that our updated version of this list is the best resource available.

Without further ado, let’s get into this list of the 25 most expensive cigars in the world:

25. El Septimo The Zaya Collection (Mirifico Sapphire)

Price/Stick: $100

The Zaya Collection, produced by El Septimo, contains 8 different varieties of cigars.

Each variety contains five different filler tobaccos, with the tobacco leaves aged up to 15 years.

Typically, each cigar features are larger ring gauge of around 60, due to the variety of filler leaves used.

Whilst the cigars within this collection have very different flavor profiles from one another, the prices/stick are relatively similar.

At the time of researching this article, we’ve included the variety selling for the most, which is Mirifico Sapphire, at $100/stick.

24. Arturo Fuente Opus X 20th Anniversary

Price/Stick: $115

Arturo Fuente has long been known for their high-quality cigars, and their Opus X range contains some of the most sought-after cigars in the brand’s history.

The Opus X line was created in 1995 and in 2016 Fuente released the ‘Opus X 20th Anniversary’ edition to commemorate 20 years of the Opus X.

The ’20th Anniversary’ line contained four cigars:

• Father & Son
• God’s Whisper
• Power of A Dream

The prices do vary between each variety, however, because the ‘God’s Whisper’ variety comes in a ‘Perfecto’ size it tends to be sold for higher prices than the rest of the line.

23. Cohiba Spectre 2023

Price/Stick: $130

The Spectre line from Cohiba was initially introduced in 2018 and cost $90 per stick.

Separate versions of the Cohiba Spectre have since been released annually, with the most expensive being the Spectre 2023.

The 2023 Spectre is limited to 600 boxes of 10 cigars, featuring a 52 ring gauge and 6 1/2 inches in length.

What’s most interesting about the release is the packaging, which differs somewhat from most cigars, including that of Cohiba.

The cigars are stored in a box that opens vertically, featuring a hydraulic system that elevates the tubed cigars when you press the ‘O’ button inside the Cohiba logo.

22. Davidoff Royal Release Salamones

Price/Stick: $150

To be qualified enough to roll the Royal Release Salamones, Davidoff makes sure you have more than 15 years of experience rolling cigars.

This cigar is only rolled by 8 different people who together have rolled over 7 million cigars.

The Royal Release Salmones takes 10 years to grow from tobacco seed to finished product and is sold in boxes of 10 for $1,500.

21. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 Reserva Cosecha 2012

Price/Stick: $181

The Epicure No. 2 is one of Hoyo de Monterrey’s signature cigars.

In 2016, Habanos SA announced the release of the No. 2 Reserva Cosecha 2012.

This blend only uses tobacco leaves from 2012, aged for a minimum of three years.

With just 5000 boxes of 20 cigars produced, this cigar is bound to increase in value with time.

20. Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013

Price/Stick: $200

Here we have another Hoyo de Monterrey ‘Reserva’ release, the Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013.

Typically, Gran Reserva lines are more sought after than regular Reserva series, due to the difference in tobacco aging.

Reserva cigar blends use tobacco leaves that are aged for a minimum of three years.

Whereas Gran Reserva blends use tobacco leaves aged for a minimum of 5 years.

Gran Reservas are also produced with only 15 sticks per box, instead of the usual 20.

19. Cohiba Siglo De Oro (Year of the Rabbit)

Price/Stick: $250

In 2023, Cohiba announced the release of the Siglo De Oro, to commemorate both the Chinese ‘Year of the Rabbit’, and also the 30th anniversary of the Siglo series.

Naturally, people across China, Hong Kong, and various other countries in Asia were the first to see these cigars unveiled.

Only 18,888 boxes of the Siglo De Oro will be produced.

That number might sound oddly specific, and it is indeed no coincidence, as the number 8 is lucky in Chinese culture.

The Siglo De Oro is a 54 ring gauge, 4 1/2 inch long cigar, sold in boxes of 18.

  18. H. Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha 2011

Price/Stick: $260

H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands in the world, with history going all the way back to 1843.

The Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha is of course named after the legendary Sir Winston Churchill , who was known not only for being one of the most important prime ministers in British history; but also for his love of cigars.

The Gran Reserve line was launched by H. Upmann in 2009, and in 2011 the Sir Winston edition was released.

Just 5000 boxes of 15 cigars were produced, for a total of 75,000 cigars.

17. Partagas Serie E No.1 Colección Habanos 2013

Price/stick: $280.

The Serie E No. 1 Colección Habanos 2013 from Partagas appears 18th on our list of the most expensive cigars.

With this particular cigar now being over 10 years old, its price has risen heavily.

You can still find this cigar for sale in the USA for roughly $280 per stick, however, prices do vary.

16. Hoyo De Monterrey Maravillas Collection 2015

Price/stick: $290.

The most expensive Hoyo de Monterrey cigar is the Maravillas Collection 2015.

There were just 2000 boxes of 20 cigars produced, amounting to a total of 40,000 cigars.

Given the smaller production number in comparison to the other Hoyo de Monterrey’s featured on this list, you can expect to pay $290/stick for this cigar.

15. Cohiba Behike Series

Price/Stick $300

Cohiba Behikes are one of the most popular and sought-after cigars in the world.

Behike cigars are known for their full-strength flavor and quality, provided you can get your hands on the authentic product.

They’re sold in three different ring gauges: 52, 54, and 56.

These sizes are represented in their names respectively: Behike 52, Behike 54, and Behike 56.

The Cohiba Behike cigars are sold in 10-count boxes and increase in price depending on their size.

14. Oliva Serie V Roaring Twenties Super Limited Edition

Oliva Cigar Co. are well known for producing cigars that provide a great smoking experience for a great value.

However, in 2023 they decided to do something a little different.

The most popular line of Oliva cigars is the ‘Series V’, and last year they announced a new Series V Roaring Twenties Super Limited Edition.

When we take a look at the average price of an Oliva cigar, we can see a price of around $10, so what’s different?

The packaging is the most notable difference, with the Roaring Twenties SLE cigars being placed in boxes produced by Daniel Marshall.

Half of the cigars (the top layer) are also covered in gold foil.

In addition, there will only ever be 300 boxes created, for a total of 3000 cigars.

13. Trinidad Casilda Coleccion Habanos 2019

Price/stick: $370.

As you may have already noticed, Habanos limited edition collections can become incredibly expensive.

The Trinidad Casilda 2019 is another edition within the Coleccion Habanos with only 3000 boxes being produced.

This cigar once again features the traditional book-shaped box packaging as with any ‘Coleccion Habanos’ release.

Getting your hands on a single stick could cost up to $370.

12. Daniel Marshall 24KT Golden Gigante

Price/Stick: $395

Continuing both the obsession with gold and also the story of Daniel Marshall brings us to the next cigar on our list.

For those who are unaware of Daniel Marshall ; he’s a well-known figure within the cigar industry for his work with manufacturing custom humidors.

In 2011, Marshall decided to create a 24KT gold cigar for his friend’s 64th birthday. 

Marshall then produced a limited run of the cigar which would be packaged in a custom-signed travel humidor.

The 24kt cigar comes in two sizes, Torpedo and Gigante, with the Gigante size being the more expensive of the two.

Its base is that of the DM2 cigar, also sold by Daniel Marshall, which is rolled and sold to him by the Plasencia factory.

Daniel then covers the cigar with a thin layer of gold leaf from Italy.

  11. Montecristo Gran Piramides Limited Edition 2017

Price/Stick: $400 

Montecristo is one of the most popular cigar brands in the world, and one of their most expensive cigars is the Gran Piramides Limited Edition from 2017.

The Gran Piramides are part of the ‘Coleccion Habanos’, which come packaged in a box that’s shaped to look like a book.

At its core, the Gran Piramides are a Montecristo No. 2 that has been increased in size for this limited collection.

This cigar has a length of 6.25 inches and a ring gauge of 57, while Montecristo No. 2’s are a 52 ring gauge, and slightly shorter in length.

Only 2000 boxes of the Gran Piramides 2017 were produced by Habanos SA.

10. Partagas Lusitanias Gran Reserva Cosecha 2007

Price/Stick: $430

Continuing with another Habanos SA-produced cigar, the 2007 Gran Reserva Lusitanias from Partagas is our 11th most expensive cigar.

Just 5000 boxes of 15 cigars were produced, resulting in a total count of 75,000 cigars.

The Gran Reserve Cosecha 2007 can still be found for sale, but given its age, you might have to shell out more than you wish to.

9. Cohiba Talisman Edicion Limitada 2017

Price/Stick: $450

When it was originally released, the Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 cost just $547 for a box of 10.

Since their release, the price has risen rapidly year over year.

The cigars were produced at the world-famous El Laguito factory in Havana, Cuba.

At the time of writing this article, you’d be lucky to find a single stick for under $450.

8. Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edicion Limitada 2021

Price/Stick: $500

While not the most expensive release from Cohiba in the year 2021, the next entry on this list was certainly an important one.

The 55 Anniversario Edicion Limitada 2021 marked the 55th anniversary of Cohiba.

As the name suggests, the cigar was indeed a limited edition, and difficult to get a hold of.

The cigar was released in 10-count boxes, costing roughly $5000/box.

7. Davidoff Oro Blanco

Price/Stick: $600

Davidoff claims that the Oro Blanco is the most exceptional cigar they’ve ever created.

The Oro Blanco is a 6-inch, 54 ring gauge, toro-shaped cigar, with an all-Dominican wrapper, binder, and filler

So why does it cost $600 per cigar?

One of the main reasons for its high cost is due to Davidoff’s aging process.

The Oro Blanco, which translates to “White Gold”, is made with tobacco leaves grown in areas with some of the richest soil across the entire Dominican Republic.

The leaves are then aged for 12 years before the cigar is rolled; a task completed only by Davidoff’s most experienced rollers (15+ years of experience).

After one additional year of aging, the single cigar is then reviewed, approved, and placed into a custom box.

6. Mayan Sicars

Price/stick: $633.

At the beginning of this article, we mentioned a specific auction involving a box of 800 cigars.

In 2012, a large crate of Mayan cigars, expected to be more than 600 years old, was discovered in Guatemala.

It’s important to mention that the most reliable source of this information mentions the sale of all 800 cigars for a total of $507,000, which would put the price/stick at $633.

The cigars were buried deep below the surface in sealed clay pots, and discovered by an archeologist team from Tampa University.

Who paid the $507,000? A man named Gary Liotta, owner of the Santiago Cigar Factory in New York.

5. Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve

Price/Stick: $750

On the sixth spot, we have Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve cigar.

It’s made each year, and if you’re a cigar enthusiast, you will need to preorder them a few years beforehand. 

The total size of each cigar is 7-5 x 52 inches. The Connecticut Maduro wrapper comes with a Dominican binder and filler that is aged for 12 years.

The filler is infused with Louis XIII cognac, which gives it an amazing aroma.

This cigar is very rare and special, and the cognac has been known for selling only to dignitaries worldwide. 

A total of 75 boxes are being made every year. The incredible aroma, as well as the taste of the cigar, will be something that you will be so impressed with that you will never forget. 

4. Cohiba Ideales Coleccion 2021

Price/Stick: $1100

As the name suggests, this Cohiba cigar was released in 2021, measuring almost 7 inches in length, with a 56 ring gauge.

The Ideales Coleccion 2021 is limited to just 3000 boxes of 20 cigars, totaling 60,000 sticks.

The box is manufactured to look like a book.

Cohiba’s Ideales Coleccion 2021 is the last cigar to feature on this list that isn’t either covered in gold leaf and crystals or nearly 20 years old.

Which makes it the most expensive plain cigar that can still be purchased today.

3. Gurkha Black Dragon (2006 Edition)

Price/stick: $1,150.

The Gurkha Black Dragon is a cigar that you can still buy and smoke newer versions of to this day, but the original 2006 edition is a rare find.

The OG boxes were handmade using camel bone and were limited to just 5 boxes of 100 cigars.

Those who have smoked the original Black Dragon from 2006, and the newer editions seem to conclude that the taste is more or less the same.

Although the 2006 first edition of the Gurkha Black Dragon cost around $1,150, given how limited it was at the time; the current version of this cigar can be added to your collection for just $40/stick.

2. King of Denmark Cigar

Price/stick: $4,500.

The King of Denmark cigar is produced by Royal Danish and only 30 sticks are rolled per day.

Buyers can customize the cigar with both 24KT gold leaf and Swarovski crystals. 

They’re also able to have their name inscribed on the cigar.

Whilst this cigar doesn’t have to cost you thousands, it can reach up to $4,500/stick depending on the customization.

1. Gurkha Royal Courtesan

Price/Stick: $1.36 Million

The most expensive cigar in the world is the Gurkha Royal Courtesan cigar.

The Royal Courtesan is worth a ridiculous $1.36 million per stick.

One of the most interesting things here is that Gurkha are not known for their quality. 

In fact, Gurkha’s quality control is often a common problem reported by fellow cigar aficionados.

This begs the question: why does this cigar cost so much more money than anything else on the list before it?

Let’s get into the details of the Royal Courtesan:

• The cigar’s filler is infused with Remy Martin’s Louis XIII cognac.
• It’s hand-rolled by a select few skilled rollers, who are blindfolded.
• The band of the cigar is covered in 5-carat diamonds.
• Rare Himalayan tobacco leaves are used for the wrapper.
• The wrapper is also covered in a layer of 24KT gold leaf.
• Personal delivery to the owner by a messenger

Notable Mentions

That concludes our main list of the 25 most expensive cigars in the world.

There are, however, a few entries we’d like to mention.

Although these weren’t included in the main list, they’re worth mentioning to any fellow cigar aficionado.

Regius Double Corona Cigar

Price: $52,000.

We decided to leave out the Regius Double Corona from our main list as the cigar itself is not the main reason for the high price.

In 2013, Regius Cigars developed their Double Corona cigar, which is produced in Nicaragua.

However, the main attraction was not actually the cigar itself, but what was included with the purchase.

The buyer of the cigar would be flown first class out to Regius headquarters in Nicaragua, where they would be given a private tour of the factory.

They would also be allowed to create their own cigar blend, and be given 1000 sticks of said blend to take home with them.

Gran Habano #5 El Gigante

Price: $185,000.

Technically this cigar does have a clear price/stick, selling for $185,000 in 2013.

However, it’s probably worth mentioning that the cigar is 19 feet long, 3 feet thick, and weighs over 600 pounds.

Here are some interesting facts about the Gran Habano #5 El Gigante:

• Despite its size, it can be smoked by multiple people at the same time.
• Made with 1,600 pounds of tobacco.
• Equivalent to smoking 25,000 cigars
• Contains 15,000 wrapper leaves
• Has a ring gauge of 1920
• Weighs 2,500 pounds with the wooden case

10. Barbados – $2,061

Kicking off our list of the 10 most expensive countries to live in worldwide, is Barbados. 

Barbados is a sovereign island nation in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, which is the Caribbean region of North America. 

It covers approximately 349km² and is 23 kilometres wide and 34 kilometres long, with a total population of 285,719 people. 

Barbados is the fourth-most densely populated country in the Americas and, it’s capital city, Bridgetown, has approximately 110,000 people living in it. 

To rent a one-bedroom studio apartment in Bridgetown, you’re looking at spending around $500 a month, or $100 a night in an Airbnb. 

A basic meal out will cost you no less than $13. A beer is around $6.50 and coffee is approximately $5.00 depending on where you go. 

9. Japan – $2,612

The ninth most expensive country to live in worldwide is Japan. 

Japan is an archipelago island nation in South-East Asia, made up of 6,852 islands, with a current total population of 126.8 million people. 

Of the 6,582 islands, the four largest islands account for the majority of inhabitants, as roughly 97% Japans population live on the four islands. 

Japan has many major cities, like Osaka, Yokohoma, Nagoya and Sapporo, which are all populated by more than 2 million people. 

However, Tokyo, Japans Capital City and the largest city in Japan, has an approximate population of 37 million people. 

To rent a one-bedroom studio apartment in Tokyo, you’re looking at spending in the region of $1,370 a month, or $111 a night in an Airbnb.

Norway shares its borders with Sweden, Russia and Finland, and has a total landmass of 385,203 km².

It’s only the 171st most densely populated country on earth, with roughly 14 people for every square kilometre. 

Rent is expensive in Norway’s capital, so renting a one-bedroom studio apartment in Oslo, will set you back around $1,193 a month, or $85 a night in an Airbnb. 

You won’t have much change left from $15 when buying a meal out, and a beer will set you back around $9.11.

7. The Bahamas – $2,704

The next most expensive country in the world to live in is The Bahamas. 

Made up of over 700 islands, the Bahamas has an approximate population of 389,482 million people living across its 13,943km² landmass. 

The largest city in the Bahamas is Nassau, with a total population of 255,000. 

If you’re thinking about visiting the Bahamas, then you should budget approximately $950 a month for a one-bedroom studio apartment in the city, or $149 a night for an Airbnb. 

You’ll need to take at least $50-$100 with you when you go out for a meal and some drinks, as a basic meal costs around $15-$20 and a beer will cost you around $2.50. 

Coffee is a little on the expensive side, at around $5 each. 

6. Luxembourg – $2,751

One of the smallest countries on our list, Luxembourg, is also one of the smallest sovereign nations on the planet, and it won’t leave you with a lot of wiggle room when it comes to your monthly expenses. 

Luxembourg is a landlocked country, located in western Europe, and has an estimated population of 620,319 people. 

Its population is small compared to other countries on the list, however, it has roughly 207 people per square kilometre, making it the 67th most densely populated country on earth. 

When you arrive in Luxembourg City, you can expect to pay around $1,322 per month for a one-bedroom studio apartment, or $80 a night in an Airbnb. 

Luxembourg seems like it’s slightly more expensive than the Bahamas when it comes to luxuries like beer and coffee, as one beer will cost you around $9 and coffee will set you back $6. 

Eating a basic meal out will cost between $17-$25 for one person depending on what you order. 

5. Iceland – $2,802

Coming in at number five on our list of the most expensive countries in the world is Iceland. 

Iceland is located between the North and Atlantic Oceans and has a total surface area of 103,001 square kilometres. 

However, Iceland’s population of 339,949 people, remains relatively low in comparison to others on our list as its harsh geographical landscape proves difficult to live in for many, at times. 

As a result, Iceland has the lowest population density of any European country, at just 3 people per kilometre. 

Staying in Iceland will cost you approximately $1,236 a month for a one-bedroom studio apartment in the capital city of Reykjavik, or $128 a night in an Airbnb.  

Whilst you’re there, eating out will cost you around $12 for a basic meal, $8 for a beer and $2.15 for a cup of coffee. 

4. Denmark – $3,312

The southernmost Nordic country in Northern Europe, Denmark, is the fourth most expensive country to live in worldwide. 

Denmark, bordered by Germany, Sweden and Norway has a total current population of 5.7 million people. 

The Scandinavian countries capital city is Copenhagen, which has an urban population of 1.2 million people, and a metropolitan population of 1.99 million.  

Known as one of the happiest places to live on earth, Copenhagen is also a very expensive city to live in.

For a one-bedroom studio apartment, you’re looking at $1,917 a month, or $96 a night in an Airbnb. 

Eating out will cost you approximately $18 per person and beers and coffee are anyway between $5.50-$6.50 a pop!

3. Switzerland – $3,162

Switzerland is the third most expensive country to live in worldwide. 

With more than 8.6 million people living across, 41,285 square kilometres, Switzerland is the 95th most populated country in the world, and the 135th largest country in terms of the total landmass. 

Switzerland has a number of beautiful cities to live in, like it’s capital, Bern, and it’s the largest city, Zurich. 

Bern has approximately 133,000 people living there and accommodation for a month in Bern, for one person, will cost in the region of $1,366, or $86 a night in an Airbnb. 

A meal out will cost you approximately $15-$20, with an additional beer costing around $6.00 and coffee costing around $5.00 a cup. 

2. Cayman Islands – $3,387

The Cayman Islands is the second most populated British overseas territory in the world, just behind Bermuda.

It is located in the western end of the Caribbean sea and has a total current population of approximately 63,000 people. 

It’s made up of a number of islands like Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. 

The Cayman Islands are well known for housing offshore companies, and it’s believed that there are over 100,000 companies registered in the Cayman Islands.

Its capital city, Hamilton, is also Bermudas only incorporated city and has a current population of just over 1,000 people.

They can incorporate helipads, swimming pools, multiple decks, vast living spaces, large tenders, various pleasure craft, and a crew that usually outnumbers the guests.

There is a saying among boat owners that their craft is comparable to a hole in the water into which they regularly throw hundred-dollar bills. Imagine, then, how this analogy translates to superyacht ownership. These gigantic vessels represent the ultimate in luxury and opulence; even their monthly maintenance costs can amount to several times more than the average mariner spends on their prized boat. This leaves many wondering what lies beneath the surface of these incredible feats of naval architecture and engineering and what type of person would venture into buying one of these floating palaces.

Superyachts are often shrouded in mystery as to who their owners are, their actual value, or whether they exist at all (as in the recently debunked case of the mythical multi-billion-dollar History Supreme). Here, we will not only delve into the features and specifications of the most expensive yachts ever sold but also look at their construction, history, and the owners who amassed such immense fortunes.

While much is heard from Microsoft's founder, Bill Gates, its co-founder, Paul Allen, rarely ventures into the spotlight. Once one sets eyes on his yacht, the spectacular Octopus , it's clear to see why he has been enjoying life in relative obscurity. This 413-foot masterpiece of modern technology was commissioned by the tech mogul and launched in 2003, and it has all of the luxuries and features befitting its $200 million price tag.

The Octopus was built by Lurssen Yachts of Germany, one of the world's foremost superyacht manufacturers responsible for many of the most expensive examples ever sold. Initially commissioned by Larry Ellison (CEO of Oracle Corporation), the 455-foot vessel was yet another Lurssen build from its shipyard in Bremen, Germany, and it was delivered in 2004 at a reported cost of around $200 million. It was later sold to David Geffen, and the record executive refitted it in 2011 and spent much of his COVID lockdown slumming it onboard with his many staff and crew.

Starck has put his stamp on everything here, from its sheltered outdoor living spaces to its covered bathing platforms and opulent furnishings, as he also did for Steve Jobs ' superyacht, Venus, four years later.

Few yachts have such a storied history as Pelorus . Once owned by Russian billionaire and erstwhile owner of Chelsea Football Club, Roman Abramovich, Pelorus is another Lurssen creation estimated to cost around $300 million. Abramovich would use it to entertain guests and as a party yacht for high-scoring members of the Chelsea squad, but he later ran into personal troubles. It was transferred to his wife as part of their divorce settlement before she sold it to David Geffen, who briefly possessed a pair of Lurssens, as he already owned the Rising Sun.

The Pelorus's hull design is ultra-modern and imposing with its acutely sharpened stem and multi-tiered stepped transom. Along its 377-foot length are motorized hatches that fold down to become bathing platforms or with davits (swingarms) that extend outward to lower its seven tenders, including a fast limousine. The yacht can accommodate 24 guests in 12 individually styled cabins, has several sun decks, one of which has a pool and jacuzzi, and has a range of 6,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 18 knots.

Currently owned by Chinese tycoon Samathur Li Kin Kan, Pelorus soon courted controversy after its sale following financial disputes between the businessman and his crew. The yacht was subsequently impounded in Montenegro while these issues were settled. Perhaps due to this disharmony upon the high seas, the vessel has recently been put up for sale once again at the bargain price of $185 million.

Qatar's former prime minister commissioned Al Mirqab after he lost out on the Pelorus to Roman Abramovich. He decided to go one better and ordered a fresh design to trump the Pelorus, enlisting rival German shipbuilder Kutsch Yachts to meet the challenge. The yacht was delivered in 2008 and is notable for its two-tone ice-class hull and superstructure, with twin curving staircases and a large bathing platform aft. Al Mirqab is worth an estimated $300 million and is as expansive as it is expensive at a massive 436 feet long.

While some yachts, such as the Rising Sun, favor a more refined, traditional aesthetic, the designers of the Al Mirqab have gone in the other direction and created an ultra-modern, scaled-down cruise ship. It is resplendent with multiple stories, each with its own sundeck, living space, and plenty of toys to amuse its occupants. These include a spacious gym, a sauna, a spa, a large indoor swimming pool, and an underwater viewing area with a pirate theme, which should be a requirement to meet "superyacht" standards. At over 15 years old, the Al Mirqab is as breathtaking today as it ever was, and this is due to its array of valuable features and accessories, its modern classic design, and its tasteful decor. Unlike many of its contemporaries that are resold regularly, this yacht is still used by the family of its original owner.

The late 2000s were a difficult time for many as the world emerged from the most significant recession since World War II. However, this didn't appear to affect liquor sales, as Serene was purchased by Stolichnaya vodka tycoon Yuri Scheffler for approximately $330 million and launched in 2011. Built by yacht builder Fincantieri, it exudes Italian flair and style, with its high topsides that appear to undulate like waves with each of its many tiers.

With its several swimming pools, underwater observation room, indoor climbing wall, nightclub, outdoor beach club, children's playroom, and two helicopter landing pads, this is among the most well-equipped yachts ever built. It even has the all-important Teppanyaki grill, should you get a hankering for Japanese food while out on the high seas. It can accommodate up to 24 guests and up to 62 crew, and with a ratio of at least two service staff to one guest, visitors should be waited on hand and foot.

The quality of Serene didn't go unnoticed, and it received the 2012 award for the Best Displacement Motor Yacht over 85 meters before Bill Gates rented it for a sizable $5 million per week in 2014. It was then bought from Scheffler by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman for the "princely" sum of €500 million ($528,322,500) while vacationing on the French Riviera in what might be the most expensive souvenir purchase of all time.

The Eclipse has a 52-foot swimming pool with a lifting floor, transforming it into a dance floor. Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov bought Dilbar for around $588 million, and it is one of the world's largest superyachts by length and volume, with many groundbreaking features.

These features include the largest swimming pool ever installed on a yacht at 82 feet in length, its own dedicated helicopter on permanent standby, and multiple recreation and entertainment centers. These, along with its various staterooms, saloons, and beauty salons, amount to a total area of 41,000 square feet. Here, 36 guests will be served by 96 crew as they relax in palatial surroundings. If they are worried about where they might plug in their devices, they can rest assured that 680 miles of electrical cable were used in Dilbar's construction, so they'll never be far from a wall socket.

Unfortunately for Dilbar's owner, it hasn't always been plain sailing for his luxury yacht, which is now estimated to be worth over $800 million. German authorities impounded it after they imposed sanctions upon him, and the future of his prized vessel hangs in the balance. While they are undoubtedly an impressive show of limitless means, Superyachts are naturally among the first assets to raise a red flag when one's finances are called into question, and many oligarchs' vessels have encountered a similar fate.

With its clean lines and gently rising superstructure that descends diagonally all the way to its transom, the Azzam is the picture of elegance. Constructed in just three years and delivered in 2013, it is considered the world's largest and possibly most expensive yacht, with a reported cost of around $600 million. Somewhat uncharacteristically, the Azzam is tastefully appointed with 19th-century empirical furnishings throughout, lending the ship an even more palpable air of opulence.

The facts and figures surrounding the Azzam are as impressive as its size would suggest. It cruises at up to 33 knots, making it among the fastest superyachts, which is even more remarkable, given its dimensions. It took 4,000 people to build it at the Lurssen shipyard. It is driven by two diesel-powered waterjets using naval technology, producing 97,000 horsepower between them. At its top speed, Azzam uses 13 tonnes of fuel per hour, although as it resides off the coast of Abu Dhabi, this should be in ready supply.

Features of the Azzam include the standard gym and swimming pool, but it also has a golf practice facility to save you from losing balls to the ocean. One of the stipulations, when the yacht was built, was that it must be able to travel to its owner's private island in the Persian Gulf in just a few hours. It truly is a window into another world of boundless luxury, the likes of which most can only dream of.

The superyacht accommodates about a dozen of luxurious cabins for guests, two helipads, an entertainment hall, and a mini-submarine that can submerge up to 50 meters below the surface.

While it is clear that Eclipse is no ordinary superyacht, what makes it truly stand out from the rest is its military-styled missile defense system that detects and fires missiles at possible threats.

The next in the line of most expensive superyachts is called A+. It was built by Germany’s Lürssen yachts for about $527 million. The yacht was initially named ‘Topaz.’

A+ is currently owned by Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the deputy Prime minister of UAE.

The exterior of the ship was designed by renowned yacht designer Tim Heywood. For interior design and decorations, Lürssen hired Terence Disdale, a U.K-based specialist design firm that has worked on several superyachts, including Pelorus, Tatoosh, and Ecstasea.

The superyacht has eight decks, three swimming pools, two helicopter landing pads, a jacuzzi, and a theater, among other amenities.

In 2020, A+ was embroiled in a global scandal after reports surfaced that it was partially financed by embezzled funds from Malaysia’s 1MDB sovereign wealth fund.

At 147 meters, A+ is currently the world’s tenth largest yacht by length. It measures 11,589 gt in volume. The main structure of the vessel is made of aluminum.

A+ is powered by two French-made Pielstick diesel engines, each producing 7990 hp. The yacht has a cruising speed of 22.9 knots, while it can reach a maximum speed of more than 25 knots.

5. Serene -$550 Million

Launched In : 2011

Builder : Fincantieri Owner : Mohammed bin Salman

Serene is currently the fifth most expensive yacht in the world. It was built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri initially for Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, who made his wealth through his alcoholic beverage empire.

Serene’s interior design and decoration were carried out by Reymond Langton Design, an independent design studio specializing in luxury yachts. The estimated manufacturing cost of the yacht is around $330 million.

After its completion in 2011, Serene was among the ten largest private yachts in the world. However, it is currently ranked 21st. It has a bunch of ultra-luxurious amenities, including a large seawater pool, spa, a nightclub, a full-scale library, and a helipad. There is also an underwater viewing room.

Yuri Shefler sold the superyacht to Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman for about $550 million in 2014. A few months before this transaction, Serene was rented by Bill Gates for a fee of $5 million a week .

In 2019, a report stated that Salvator Mundi, the world’s most expensive painting , was stored inside the yacht. However, it was never confirmed.

Salvator Mundi is one of the most iconic paintings made by Leonardo da Vinci. It was sold for a whopping $450 million ($497 million adjusted value) at Christie’s auction house in November 2017.

Specifications and features:

The superyacht has a moderately large internal volume of 8,230 gt and a total length of 134 meters . Instead of a single large propeller, it is fitted with two controllable pitch propellers. Serene has a total of seven decks with 12 guest cabins and 30 crew cabins.

4. Sailing Yacht A – $578 Million

Launched In : 2015

Builder : Nobiskrug (Former) Owner : Andrey Melnichenko

A sailing yacht differs from a typical motor yacht as it uses sails as a primary method for propulsion. A or sailing yacht A is actually a sail-assisted motor yacht with a hybrid powerplant and three mast sailing rig. It is the largest sailing yacht in the world.

Sailing Yacht A is designed by renowned French industrial architect Philippe Starck, who has worked for brands such as Adidas, Hilton International, and a bunch of private entities. The yacht is owned by Andrey Melnichenko.

With a gross tonnage of 12,558 gt and a length of 142.81 meters, the sailing yacht A is perhaps the largest yacht of its type. The beam and draft lengths are 24.8 meters and 8 meters, respectively.

The vessel features an underwater observation pod with 30 cm thick glass. The cruising speed of sailing yacht A is 16 knots (39 km/h) and has a range of 9,890 km.

3. Dilbar – $588 Million

Builder : Lürssen (Former) Owner : Alisher Usmanov

With a price tag of nearly $590 million, Dilbar is currently the third-most expensive yacht in the world. It was built by Lürssen Yachts for Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. The yacht is named after his mother.

Usmanov is one of the richest Russian oligarchs, who made his wealth through steel, telecom, and investments after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Dilbar is not just your regular large yacht. It is currently the third-largest (by gross tonnage) and sixth longest motor yacht in the world ( the third-longest built by Lürssen). Apart from other luxuries, the superyacht has two helipads and a huge indoor pool.

According to the U.S Department of Treasury, Dilbar’s estimated worth is between $600 million and $735 million . The annual maintenance cost for this gigantic ship is about $60 million.

Dilbar superyacht was among the many private assets owned by Russian billionaires that were seized by foreign governments in 2022. The yacht was impounded by the German authorities at Hamburg port in April 2022.

At 15,917 gt, Dilbar is the second largest private yacht in the world by gross tonnage after Fulk Al Salamah , owned by the Omani Royal Family.

The length of the superyacht is 156 m. For perspective, the total length of a football field is 110 m or 360 ft. It has a beam of 24 m and a draft of 6.1 m.

Dilbar has a cruising speed of 18 knots (33 km/h) and a maximum speed of 22.5 knots (41.7 km/h).

2. Azzam – $605 Million

Launched In : 2013

Builder : Lürssen Yachts Owner : Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE (Until his death in May 2022)

Azzam (Arabic word for ‘Resolute’) is a luxury superyacht built by German yacht maker Lürssen. The construction of the yacht was personally ordered by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates.

The superyacht is a remarkable piece of engineering in more than one way. It took Lürssen about three years to complete Azzam’s construction after an entire year of design work. The vessel has a shallow draft of 4.3 meters. It is currently the longest motor yacht in service.

The total manufacturing cost of Azzam is estimated to be around $600 million making it the second-most expensive private yacht in the world.

After the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in May 2022, it was reported that Azzam was listed for charter.

Azzam’s recorded length is 179.9 m, which is about 17 m more than Eclipse’s. It is powered by two diesel engines and two gas turbines, each producing 23,500 hp.

1. History Supreme – $4.8 Billion

At $4.8 billion , History Supreme is the most expensive superyacht ever made. Like any other superyacht, History Supreme has private cabins, a swimming pool, and other luxury amenities. At 30 meters, it is also significantly smaller than other superyachts on this list. However, it is way more expensive.

The reason behind History Supreme’s sky-high value is the amount of gold and other precious metals that are used on its body. The yacht has over 100,000 kilograms of gold and platinum from top to bottom.

While the deck, a large dining area, and railings are coated with gold, the main cabin is covered with platinum. It is also reported that a real dinosaur bone from T-rex is placed on a cabin wall.

Moreover, the entire base of the vessel is wrapped in a thin layer of gold.

History Supreme is designed by Stuart Hughes, a British luxury goods designer widely known for his extravagant use of gold and diamond on electronic gadgets, luxury cars, and other luxury items.

According to reports, the superyacht is owned by Malaysian businessman and billionaire Robert Kuok.

Other Expensive Yachts Valued Below $300 Million

13. al mirqab – $250 to $300 million.

Launched In : 2008 Owner : Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani

Al Mirqab, initially known as ‘Project May,’ is a superyacht owned by Qatari politician Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. It is currently valued between $250 and $300 million.

The vessel is constructed by a small German shipyard Peters Werft and is designed by a pair of renowned yacht designers – Andrew Winch and Tim Heywood.

Al Mirqab has two VIP or owner suits and 10 additional suits for guests. It can serve up to 24 guests at a time. The amenities include a jacuzzi, a swimming pool, and a helipad.

14. Ocean Victory – $295 Million

At the time of its launch in 2014, Ocean Victory was one of the ten largest superyachts in the world. It is built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and designed by naval architect and designer Espen Oeino.

Ocean Victory superyacht has seven decks, a large tender garage, multiple pools, and a helipad. It can accommodate a maximum of 36 guests at a time.

According to Forbes, the yacht is currently owned by Russian billionaire Victor Rashnikov and is valued at $295 million.

15. Octopus – $240 Million

Launched In : 2003 Owner : Paul Allen (Until his death in 2018)

Octopus superyacht was built by Lürssen yachts for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2003. It was the largest yacht at the time of its launch. Unlike most private superyachts, Octopus has been mostly loaned out for scientific research and exploration purposes.

The superyacht has a total of eight decks with 13 guest suites and a private owner’s deck. Amenities include a gym, a spa, an entertainment center, and a basketball court. Moreover, it has not one but two helipads.

‘Octopus’ was designed by Espen Oeino and Seatle-based interior designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett. During its construction, Paul Allen asked the designers to build a vessel capable of conducting long expeditions and even rescue operations on top of having leisure amenities onboard.

It is equipped with two mini-submarines and a remotely operated underwater vehicle or ROV for underwater research and rescue operations.

In December 2018, the yacht underwent an overhaul at Blohm+Voss shipyard for over seven months. In 2021, the yacht was reported to be bought by an anonymous buyer for £200 million .

How long it takes to build a superyacht.

The construction of a superyacht is usually done in four phases – planning or design, engineering, superstructure construction, and outfitting.

It takes about three to four years to build an entire custom superyacht. While it takes less time to construct a vessel on a pre-developed platform with standard elements, building a customized superyacht that caters to all your requirements takes more time. You also have to take unexpected delays into consideration.

The design or planning is the most critical phase in a superyacht construction. Considering the budget and specific requirements, the entire process could take between nine months and a year.

The Current International Market for Luxury Superyachts

The yacht industry is on the rise, and the demand for luxury superyachts has exploded in the last few years during soaring stock markets and crypto gains. Most of the demand is from the United States.

The global yacht industry is valued at $64 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $84.7 Billion by 2027 growing at a CAGR of 4.1 percent.

According to Boat International’s Global Order Book, about 1,024 superyachts are under construction or on order globally in 2022. It is about a 25 percent increase from the last year’s 821 vessels.

A large chunk of these under-construction superyachts is semi-custom options that are relatively smaller in size than most superyachts on this list. Moreover, about 33 percent of these orders are some sort of expedition superyachts that can sail through ice and other remote regions of the world.

Inside The Most Expensive Yacht Ever Sold

Billionaires are seemingly always seeking to top one another and themselves when it comes to buying jaw-droppingly expensive and ridiculous objects. In 2011, an anonymous Malaysian man, rumored to be business tycoon Robert Kuok, may have moved to the head of the pack when he allegedly bought the hilariously named History Supreme, a yacht made of such materials as solid gold, platinum, meteoric stone, and the bone of a tyrannosaurus rex. According to Business Insider , Kuok is a notoriously private self-made billionaire who heads the Kuok Group, a multinational conglomerate that owns assorted businesses around the world. When he bought the History Supreme for $4.8 billion, he reportedly spent a third of his $12.8 billion fortune. According to Forbes , in 2021 the 97-year-old is the 171st richest person in the world with a net worth of $12.6 billion.

As reported by the Daily Mail , the History Supreme is made up of over 100,000 kg (that's over 220,000 pounds) of platinum and gold; the entire base of the boat is wrapped in solid gold and the precious metals are used throughout, while the aforementioned meteoric stone and dinosaur bone make up a "wall feature" in the master bedroom. Additional features, per Jetset Magazine , include a luxury liquor bottle adorned with a rare 18.5 carat diamond, a custom iPhone encrusted in 500 diamonds, including two special interchangable home button diamonds, and a panoramic Aquavista wall aquarium made from 24-carat gold, presumably setting a new standard when it comes to panoramic yacht aquariums.

Is the History Supreme a hoax?

The History Supreme yacht is the handiwork of British designer Stuart Hughes who per his website has also made such collectibles for the ultrarich as the world's most expensive suit, the world's most expensive iPhone, the world's most expensive model car, and a solid gold Rolls Royce Phantom. According to Jetset Magazine , the "anonymous Malaysian business man" (probably Robert Kuok, shown above) commissioned Hughes via a friend in his yachting circle; Hughes never met the person for whom the yacht was intended, but was given completely  free reign in terms of the ship's design and construction. The project took three years to complete. 

To add to the History Supreme's mystique, some people don't believe it exists at all. Autoevolution says it "was never real, it was never made and no, it does not exist," noting that Italian company Baia Yachts issued a statement claiming the pictures of History Supreme's interior on Hughes' website were stolen from their site and used without permission. MoneyInc and YachtHarbor also lay out the case for the entire story being a hoax, with MoneyInc noting that at one point Kuok deconstructed his Hong Kong mansion into several smaller homes to avoid an ostentatious display of wealth, which makes his commission of the world's most luxurious yacht seem unlikely. Furthermore, as Kuok is known for staying out of the public eye, perhaps Hughes chose him as the supposed customer because he is hard to reach and therefore will not confirm or deny the yacht's existence. The History Supreme section of Hugh's website remains intact. 

Did the Eclipse get eclipsed?

Before the possible existence of the History Supreme, the title of world's most luxurious yacht belonged to the Eclipse (shown above). Per the Sydney Morning Herald , it was purchased in 2009 by Russian business tycoon Roman Abramovich for $590 million and includes two helipads, a movie theater, a sports complex, its own mini-submarine, and a missile defense system. Created by German shipbuilding company Blohm + Voss, an anonymous Russian yachting expert described it as a "big mansion on water ." When asked why it looked like a military frigate, the expert replied "It's a trend. Private yachts look like military boats these days. The yacht is a statement for many people. It's a statement about power." For those who wanted to try out that sort of morally dubious power without committing, the Eclipse was at one point available for commission for up to 30 guests and 75 crew members via SuperYachtsMonaco at $2 million per week, as reported by Business Insider . It's no longer listed on the site.

Per Robb Report , the world's largest yacht since its construction finished in 2013 has been the Azzam, which comes in at 592 feet and six inches long and can travel at a speed up to 30 knots. Built by yacht company Lürssen , it was commissioned by United Arab Emirates president Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (per Super Yacht Fan ) and has an interior described as sophisticated and luxe.

One of the Most Expensive Yachts of 2023 Just Sold

One of the most expensive yacht of 2023 has sold after just 10 weeks on the market. The boat, ARROW, was listed by Fraser for $151 million , and according to representatives, was the second highest yacht sale on record this year, though its exact price was not disclosed. “With luxurious amenities and state-of-the-art technology, ARROW  caters to every indulgence and ensures an unforgettable experience for all guests on board,” reads the superyacht’s listing page .

Spanning 246 feet, the massive ship is the size of three tennis courts. ARROW was built by Dutch shipyard Feadship and delivered in 2020. Designed with a steel and aluminium body, the ship is crafted with hybrid technology “enabling the most efficient use of energy with the lowest possible impact.” London-based studio H2 Yacht Design worked on the interior and exterior designs, creating a mix of contemporary lounge and bedroom spaces and opting for a classic nautical style for the decks. Feadship de Voogt was responsible for the naval architecture.

Complete with six staterooms, the ship can accommodate 12 guests and 19 crew. Onboard, yachters will find a collection of luxury amenities including a hot tub, fully equipped gym, and cinema. The beach club, a lounge and swim platform area, is completed with a bar, sauna, massage room, dive store, and toy area. Boasting expansive glass bulwarks, the yacht offers sea views from all sides. 

ARROW was rumored to belong to Michael Platt, an investor and founder of BlueCrest Capital Management. Michael Tabor and Brandon Kummer of Kitson Yachts represented the buyer of the second most expensive yacht of 2023, though they were not disclosed.

With talks of a boom in superyacht sales continuing to echo throughout the industry, 2021 has been one of the best years for superyacht sales with more than 1,000 yachts sold. While each of these add to the current strength of the superyacht sales market, some yachts stick out for their extravagant price tags. Here, we round up the 10 most expensive superyachts sold in 2021.

1. Octopus , 126-metres, Lürssen, 2003

Last known asking price: €235,000,000

As the largest superyacht on the list, Octopus was also the most expensive with a whopping asking price of €235,000,000. The iconic Lürssen-built explorer superyacht was sold this past summer and will be available to charter, for the first time since her launch, in 2002 on a two-year worldwide tour beginning in January 2022. Equipped with two helipads, an ROV with a 1.9 mile range, an eight person submarine, and a range of 12,500 nautical miles, the Espen Øino-designed superyacht lives up to her true ocean explorer capabilities. Octopus accommodates as many as 26 guests across 13 staterooms, and is considered to be the largest explorer superyacht in the world.

2. Seven Seas (Man of Steel), 86.01-metres, Oceanco, 2010

Last known asking price: €131,000,000

Listed for sale earlier this year, Man of Steel, previously known as Seven Seas, was sold after just five months on the market. Her sharp exterior lines were penned by Nuvolari Lenard who also collaborated with Molly Ikaksen on her interiors. Up to 20 guests can be accommodated between nine staterooms, including a full-beam owner’s suite with its own private deck. A glass elevator which serves each of her four decks is among some of the 2,658 GT superyacht’s standout features in addition to a gym, a massage room and a steam room.

3. Lady Moura , 104.85-metres, Blohm & Voss, 1990

Last known asking price: $125,000,000

Lady Moura was built by Blohm & Voss in 1990 to a design brief by Luigi Sturchio. The 6,359 GT superyacht is spread across seven decks, which have 2,600 square-metres of space, complete with a pool, six gangways, a helipad and plenty of alfresco dining and lounge space. The superyacht is considered to be a pioneer of the beach club, sporting hers amidships with easy access to the water with balconies to both port and starboard. 

4. Azteca (Arbema), 72-metres, CRN, 2010

Last known asking price: €65,000,000

Previously known as Azteca, the superyacht Arbema is one of the largest known superyachts to be offered for sale in cryptocurrency, though the form of payment for her sale is unconfirmed. She was built in 2010 by CRN and has since been regularly maintained, having been most recently refitted in 2021. Nuvolari Lenard penned both her exterior lines as well as her original interiors, which accommodate up to 16 guests across eight staterooms.

5. Halo , 57.47-metres, Feadship, 2015

Last known asking price: €64,000,000

The Harrison Eidsgaard-designed superyacht was sold within just two months of being listed for sale. The 1,001 GT yacht has a three deck layout and plenty of alfresco dining and lounge space, including her main deck aft. Here, a large L-shaped sofa is found. She has a custom Compass tender and a full store of water toys, scuba diving equipment and a touch-and-go helipad to her bow. Up to 12 guests are accommodated across six staterooms in her Bernardi + Peschard-designed interiors.

6. Solo , 72-metres, Tankoa, 2018

Last known asking price: €62,900,000

Tankoa delivered its flagship motor yacht, the 72-metre superyacht Solo to her original owner in 2018. Her exterior lines were penned by Francesco Paszkowski while Ruggiero srl completed her naval architecture. Her interiors were designed to prioritise guest spaces, sporting multiple saloons spread across her three decks. On deck, she has a spacious sundeck and beach club to aft, which doubles as a water sports centre with access to plenty of toys.

7. Ventum Maris , 65.7-metres, Amels, 2011

Last known asking price: €58,000,000

Amels delivered the 65.7-metre superyacht Ventum Maris to her original owner in 2011 to an exterior design by Tim Heywood Design. Winch Design imagined the yacht’s interiors which accommodate as many as 14 guests across seven staterooms. At 1,503 GT, she has ample guest space both in and outdoors including her spacious main saloon with an adjacent formal dining area with panoramic views. A Jacuzzi and swimming pool are found on the yacht’s sun deck along with a bar. A swim platform is found to her stern while additional sunbathing space is found to her bow.

8. Anna 1 (Firebird), 67.07-metres, Feadship, 2007

Last known asking price: €53,900,000

Previously known as Anna 1, the 67.07-metre Feadship superyacht was renamed Firebird by her new owner following her sale in September 2021. Michael Leach penned her exterior design while De Voogt Naval Architects took charge of her naval architecture. Launched in 2007, Firebird has since been well-maintained and underwent a comprehensive refit in 2021. As many as 17 guests can be accommodated across six staterooms, including an extravagant split-level owner’s stateroom with double-height ceilings, an office, an ensuite bathroom and access to a private lounge and foredeck seating area.

9. Skat , 70.7-metres, Lürssen, 2002

Last known asking price: €49,500,000

Skat’s distinct military-inspired exterior, designed by Espen Øino, is accentuated by her grey hull and superstructure as well the use of steel, aluminium and glass. The Lürssen-built superyacht accommodates as many as 12 guests across six staterooms throughout her 1,998 GT interior. Her interior is styled by Marco Zanini and, just as her exterior, grey is the dominant colour used throughout. Skat has plenty of standout features, including a Jacuzzi surrounded by sunpads on her skydeck and ample alfresco lounge and dining space.

10. Game Changer , 72.15-metres, Damen Yachting, 2017

Last known asking price: €49,000,000

After just three months on the market, the 72.15-metre support vessel. Since her launch in 2017, Game Changer has completed over 50,000 nautical miles of circumnavigation. Her builder, Damen Yachting, penned her exterior design and completed her naval architecture. In 2020, Game Changer underwent a 10-month refit at ICON Yachts where she received a hull extension of three metres, providing space for a beach club and swim platform. She hosts a full store of toys including a submarine from U-Boat Worx, a 12-metre Intrepid tender, a dive centre and a helipad. Game Changer accommodates up to 11 guests across five staterooms.

When it comes to expensive sailboats, people generally speak about one's outside of their budget. There are a handful out there that exceed a lot of budgets.

In fact, there are at least 10 sailboats that make the list and two of them are in the billion dollar range. So what are some of the most expensive sailboats in the world?

The Pelorus, Al Said, Radiant, and Serene are all in the $300 million price range. For slightly more expensive sailboats, Dubai, A, Topaz, and Azzam are roughly half a billion dollars. As for Eclipse and History Supreme, these are worth over a billion dollars and are considered the most expensive.

A lot of these expensive sailboats come equipped with some extreme additions, like a helipad and jet skis. Others include workout facilities and even a movie theater.

According to experts in the sailing industry, you do not have to have all of these luxuries to make it an expensive sailboat. However, the more that is available will definitely increase the value.

Pelorus was last known to be worth around $300 million and it has changed owners a few times. It was crafted by Lürssen Shipyard in 2003 but quickly acquired in 2004 by Roman Abramovich.

The current owner is believed to still be Samuel Tak Lee from Hong Kong. This boat is a massive 377 feet long and has a 56-foot beam.

The weight is around 5500 tonnes and has a few luxury amenities such as jet skis, two helicopter pads, and even landing boats. There are also hot tubs on the top deck.

Al Said is another insane boat size for around $300 million, accommodating up to 70 guests and 26 suites. The boat typically has around 170 crew members on board to keep the boat in top shape.

This 500 foot super yacht was built by Lurssen Yachts and was specifically catered to the current owner, Qaboos Bin Said Al Said. There is not a lot known about this one, but there are a few known features.

There is a master bedroom and a concert hall to entertain guests. In addition, there are elevators to help guests easily go from one floor to the next.

As the 53rd largest yacht in the world , it comes at a hefty price tag of around $320 million. This is another built by Lürssen in 2009 and is believed to have been delivered to Abdulla Al Futtaim in 2010.

This sailboat is around 360 feet long and has about 5027 in gross weight tonnage. The extra weight could be caused by the gym, movie theater, beauty salon, elevators, beach club, and heavy-duty air conditioning units peering through multiple rooms.

Radiant can accommodate up to 20 guests and 62 crew members. Surprisingly, the boat averages around 16 knots with top-out speeds ranging up to 21 knots.

Serene is a custom-built yacht by Fincantieri, which is an Italian Shipyard. The estimated value is around $330 million, but could definitely be worth more.

This boat is about 440 feet long with about a 61-foot beam. It is quite heavier than the others already listed, with a gross tonnage of about 8230.

There are plenty of accommodations, such as multiple swimming pools, a seawater pool, a snow room, saunas, a submarine, a jet, a conference hall, and two helipads that can be converted to a dance floor. It is currently owned by Mohammed bin Salman, who is the Prince of Saudi Arabia.

The Dubai yacht is roughly 531 feet long and is the second longest yacht. It is currently owned by Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum, who is the Sheik of Dubai.

Dubai was built in 2006 by a joint effort from Voss, Blohm, and Lürssen shipyards. It is considered the golden child of yachts, so to speak, so a lot of extras went into this one.

There are custom-made tiles throughout, a helipad, and a glass staircase that lights up. In addition, it hosts many VIP parties, has tons of guest suites, and has its own owner's deck. This was estimated to be worth around $400 million for this yacht.

Sailing Yacht A is one of the most magnificent yachts in existence. It is estimated to be worth over $500 million and was originally developed by the 787 Project back in 2017, which was delivered to Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

It sports a sleek futuristic metal design on the outside, with three enormous sails, and is about 469 feet long. It has a beam of 81.4 feet and has almost 12,600 tonnage.

There are eight decks and a handful of elevators to get you where you need to go. You will also see a retractable roof, a helipad, an underwater observation pod, and a digital system to help raise or lower sails.

M/Y A+ Yacht , formerly known as Topaz, was constructed in 2012 by Lurssen Yachts in Germany. This yacht is roughly 482 feet long and has a gross tonnage of about 11,600.

It boasts a 7990 HP engine that provides a maximum speed of 25.5 knots. There are 32 cabins that can accommodate up to 64 guests.

There are seven decks to have plenty of room to play with, especially with the large jacuzzi, swimming pool, and gym. There is also a double helipad, movie theater, and a beautiful conference room. This boat cost nearly $530 million, but of course, could be worth more now.

Another development from Lurssen Yachts, Azzam is the longest private sailboat in the world at 590 feet. On top of that, it cost $650 million to put together and be handed over to United Arab Emirates’ former president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan Emir.

With over 4,000 people in charge of this task, the team that built this one claimed it was one of the most sophisticated and challenging builds they have ever done. In addition, it is quite fast for its size at 30 knots.

The yacht can handle 80 crew members and accommodate 36 guests. There is a golf training room, swimming pool, gym, and an open floor plan saloon.

The Eclipse superyacht is the second most expensive sailboat in existence and is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. For $1.5 billion, this boat is 536 feet long and was put together by Blohm and Voss of Hamburg.

There are plenty of lavishing features such as 24 guest cabins, a handful of hot tubs, and even a disco hall. The added benefit of something this expensive though is the security features, which have similarities to you would see in an action-packed movie.

There are defenses against intruders with detection devices and a missile defense system. In addition, there are even bulletproof windows, shielding against paparazzi, and lasers to sweep the area.

History Supreme

An interesting choice for a name, the History Supreme is the most expensive yacht ever sold at $4.8 billion. This 100-foot yacht is literally covered in gold and platinum, about 10,000 kg all the way from the stern to the bow.

It was supposedly built for Robert Kuok, who happens to be the richest man in Malaysia, but at first, it was anonymous. The boat itself rivals other ones with similar features, but it is the amount of gold and platinum throughout that makes it worth more.

In addition, the master bedroom has a meteorite rock wall and a statue constructed from real Tyrannosaurus Rex bones. On top of that, there is an aquarium that is decked out with a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic model.

How to Find Expensive Sailboats

Finding expensive sailboats is going to mean different things to various people. For one individual, $20,000 is going to be expensive, while other people might think $1 million is too much.

So how do you find a happy medium to get what you want, but not feel like you are overpaying? This is where research is going to be your best friend.

Know Your Budget

As mentioned, most people might have to adjust their tastes based on price alone. After all, the price is usually a good indicator of value but not necessarily all that is required for a good sailboat.

You might have to consider choosing a boat loan to help fund your purchase. If that is the case, you need to make sure you are getting a good deal and not being charged a ridiculously high amount of interest.

You should only get a loan for a boat if the purchase price is within your means. The loan is meant to help bridge the gap between what you have and what you can pay off in years.

You should avoid taking out a larger loan on a more expensive boat just because the payments are “not that bad”. This is where you need to calculate your finances and what you can afford.

In addition, the year that a particular boat was built makes a huge difference in price and performance. This would be another factor to consider, especially if you find an older boat that is in good shape.

Determine Your Sailing Goals

Once you have figured out how much you can afford to spend, you need to narrow down what your sailing goals are. Do you want a fast yacht or a single person dinghy? Maybe you enjoy catamarans for a large group of people on the weekends?

Whichever sailing goal you have in mind, this should be applied to your sailboat search. This can easily range in prices no matter what style of boat you decide to buy.

It would not make a lot of sense if you want to travel full time in your sailboat with just two people and decide you want a boat that requires six people on deck to operate. A lot of factors will come into play, you just need to make sure you can adjust accordingly.

Online Brokers and Marinas

If you want to find expensive sailboats quickly, searching online is going to be your best friend. This will save you a lot of time and hassle with just a few clicks into your search.

Depending on your location, you can search for brokers online and find one near you to look at. You can easily mark your price points and see thousands of boats in an instant.

As for marinas, this will be a smorgasbord of opportunities to check out various sailboats. You will likely find at least one expensive boat and the potential to speak with the sailor to see where they got it and other important information.

What Makes a Sailboat Expensive?

Sailboats are expensive for a lot of reasons, mainly having to do with size and tons of features. So depending on what the boat is equipped with, it could mean the difference between a few thousand dollars or buying the equivalent of a large house.

Size of the Hull

The size of your sailboat is a big factor in the price, but there are times where the hull makes it even more expensive. For example, a catamaran has two hulls and a trimaran has three hulls.

These boats are typically more expensive, especially since they will hold a lot more people. As you can see from the yachts, they can all hold roughly 100 people depending on the size.

Type of Sailboat

Some sailboats will be more expensive than others if they can handle diff types of water. Other boats might cater to shallow waters or calmer conditions, where other boats might be able to handle it all.

Depending on the type of sailboat and the experience you are trying to achieve makes a huge difference in the price. Of course, any yacht will be expensive in most consumer’s eyes, no matter how it is used in the water.

Various Technology

An older sailboat is not going to have near the same amount for technology as newer ones. These include navigation systems, electric winches, and radios.

Some are already equipped with solar panels or have the capability to. Other boats might have traditional useful features, such as a refrigerator or an oven.

Buying New or Used

You can often find cheaper sailboats if you know which year they are built in. There is nothing wrong with buying used, but you still need to make sure that it is in good shape and has the features you need.

Whether you purchase new or used, these can still be pretty expensive. Even used superyachts can still be around $10 million depending on the brand and what is equipped on it.

As for new sailboats, you get the latest technology and improved designs from previous models. You do pay a premium for a newer version with these added features, so that should be factored into the price.

Some sailboats are made out of interesting materials. For example, the History Supreme has gold and platinum all throughout, making it the most expensive in the world.

Most sailboats today are made out of fiberglass since it is easy to manufacture and lightweight. Some are still made out of wood, but are harder to find and take longer to build. Wooden sailboats are sturdy and last a long time, driving up their value.

£1bn boat boom: How the superyacht market exploded in 2021

Any whispers of an economic downturn post pandemic appears yet hit to the ocean waves as statistics show 2021 is set to go down in history as the biggest year ever for superyacht sales.

More than 208 vessels were sold on the brokerage market so far in 2021, compared to just 131 by this same period last year totalling an astonishing £1,012,841,035, according to data from BOAT International , the global authority in superyachting.

BOAT International Business Editor Nic Robinson said: ‘This boom started in around July last year and the market has been red hot since then. Boats are selling in unprecedented numbers, as people seek to escape lockdowns and travel restrictions by buying a yacht. We’re also seeing lots of first-time buyers coming into the market, and boats being sold sight unseen, which is almost unheard of.’

With luxury resorts off limits and international air travel proving unreliable, it is easy to see why some high net worth individuals would plump for their own floating resorts with 7* levels of extravagance for a period of self-isolation.

The three most expensive yachts to be sold on the market totalled £112 million. Solo, the most costly of the lot with a price tag of just over £54 million was sold in April and featured its own beach club and wellness hub comprising a glass-walled gym, sauna and hammam spa. There was even a Melik aquarium designed to keep the water still while the boat moved.

For the wealthy few with deep enough pockets who are still contemplating their own exclusive hideaway, the most expensive superyacht currently on the market is 126-metre explorer yacht Octopus, which was owned by the late Paul Allen. With its two helipads, a 10-person submarine and an underwater observation lounge, 26 guests can sleep on the boat with a crew of 63. It is a drop in the ocean at £202,185,000.

The most expensive superyacht sales of 2023

The superyacht industry defied all expectations of a slowdown this year, with BOATPro showing an 8.3 per cent uptick in the total amount of sales secured over the past 12 months. Even with the number of asking prices that have been withheld (such as in the recent sale of Aquijo , which reached an estimated nine figures), the collective value managed to grow from €3.6 billion in 2022 to €3.9 billion in 2023.

As we head into the new year, BOAT takes a look back at the biggest and most exciting deals of 2023, starting with the single most expensive yacht brokerage sale in history...

Length: 115.1m Asking price: €330,000,000

The superyacht industry came to a standstill when news broke that Lürssen 's Ahpo had been sold in what is believed to be the biggest brokerage deal in history .  If that wasn't enough, her colossal impact drove May 2023 to become the single-highest-grossing brokerage sales month on record.  Designed by Nuvolari Lenard , Ahpo 's striking profile was inspired by a performance sports car, with tapered decks, a duo-tone colour scheme and trademark half-moon windows. The yacht also carries a nature theme throughout its interior, seen in the choice of artwork, the central staircase (which depicts an olive tree) and the aft deck winter garden.

Ahpo was sold in an in-house deal by Moran Yacht & Ship . 

Length: 95m Asking price: €227,500,000

Designers Peder Eidsgaard and Laura Sessa teamed up with German yard Lürssen to deliver the award-winning Madsummer in 2019 for an owner seeking both a new yacht and a new plane. Their efforts resulted in a subtly masculine-looking superyacht with a riot of colour inside and a dedicated deck for the owner's accompanying Husky seaplane. Other onboard highlights include a fully certified helideck at the bow, a 12-metre swimming pool and accommodations for up to 12 guests in distinctively-coloured staterooms. 

Madsummer was sold in an in-house deal by Moran Yacht & Ship.

Here Comes the Sun

Length: 89m Asking price: $195,000,000

This former yacht for sale was sold in August of this year after just four months on the brokerage market. Originally delivered in 2017, Here Comes the Sun remains Dutch shipbuilder Amels ' largest yacht to date and recently underwent a full rebuild in 2021 that saw Azure Naval Architects tack on a six-metre stern extension, a second helipad as well as a brand new navy blue and white paint job. Here Comes the Sun was later awarded a Neptune for Best Rebuilt Yacht at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards , with judges applauding her newfound elegance and clever internal layout.

Here Comes the Sun was sold with Fraser representing both the seller and buyer. She was jointly listed with Burgess at the time of the sale.

Length: 95.2m Asking price: €149,000,000

The Lürssen superyacht Whisper (ex Kismet ) was sold in just three months with   Cecil Wright yacht brokerage – right before her scheduled appearance at this year's Monaco Yacht Show. She was commissioned by billionaire businessman Shahid Khan, who wished for a "champagne and caviar superyacht" suitable for both family and corporate entertainment. True to the brief, renowned design firm Espen Øino opted for a champagne-coloured hull with plenty of crowd-pleasing amenities packed inside an art deco interior. Some of the most notable design features include a multi-level swimming pool, a Persian-inspired spa and a Crystal Caviar chandelier weighing a staggering 350kg.

Whisper was sold in a deal between  Cecil Wright & Partners and Christie Yachts . 

Length: 75m Asking price: €139,900,000

Sold in the same month as Ahpo , the 75-metre Feadship Arrow was the second sale in May to cross the nine-figure threshold. Her sharply raked bow and low, sloping profile had been conceived by London-based studio H2 Yacht Design , who was also responsible for the yacht's funky, modern interior. Arrow also makes use of the Dutch yard's latest hybrid technology, with an advanced waste heat recovery system adding to the yacht's overall efficiency. Accommodations are for 12 guests in six cabins with additional quarters for a crew of up to 19. 

Arrow was sold with Fraser representing the seller and Kitson Yachts the buyer.

Length: 68.2m Asking price: €88,000,000

Abeking & Rasmussen 's Soaring was sold in March and has since been renamed Starlust . Delivered in 2020, her original owner tasked Focus Yacht Design with an exterior that "wouldn't be mistaken for any other", culminating in the yacht's distinctive scalloped windows, "eagle-beak" bow and vivid orange bootstripe to go with her pale grey hull. Starlust also comes equipped with two Compass Tenders, each marked with an identifiable orange band along the bottom to evoke the style of the mothership. 

Stalust was sold in an in-house deal with Ocean Independence .

Length: 60m Asking price: $82,000,000

At 60 metres in length, the newly delivered Dutch build Lusine is Heesen's largest steel superyacht to date with an exterior design from Omega Architects . She went on to secure a Judges' Commendation at both the 2023 World Superyacht Awards as well as that year's Design & Innovation Awards . Special attention was given to the yacht's sophisticated and elaborate lighting plan showcasing the elegant joinery, rich textures and rare stone surfaces throughout (including actual pieces of moon meteorite to coincide with her lunar theme).

Lusine was sold with Fraser introducing the buyer and Burgess and KAYZ Marine both acting for the seller.

Length: 74.5m Asking price: €71,500,000

Lady S , Lady E and now Felix , this charter favourite joined the brokerage market only a few years after emerging from a substantial 2020 refit by Pendennis . The work centred around a six-metre stern extension, which created an additional 120 square metres of guest space. Her newly added features include an expanded beach club area that doubles as a nightclub, as well as a health and wellness centre complete with a hammam, fully equipped gymnasium and counter-current pool. 

Felix was sold with Fraser and Burgess representing the seller and Fraser representing the buyer.

Length: 68.2m Asking price: €69,500,000

Originally delivered as a multipurpose supply vessel in 2012, Q (ex Ragnar ) was transformed into a globe-trotting expedition yacht by Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts in 2020. Her RWD exterior is rumoured to have taken inspiration from a medieval Viking helmet, while the interior borrows visible design cues from cosy ski chalets and Scottish castles. Among her ample explorer credentials, Q boasts diesel-electric propulsion with ice-breaking propellers, an industrial-grade crane and a certified helideck designed to support an Airbus EC145 helicopter. 

Q was sold in a deal between Arcon Yachts and FGI Yacht Group .

Casino Royale

Length: 72m Asking price: €66,000,000

Rounding out this year's top 10 is the Tankoa flagship, Casino Royale , which spent the past winter at the Amico shipyard shedding her characteristic beige hull in favour of an all-white exterior. The yacht was given its modern appearance by Francesco Paszkowski Design , who teamed up with Margherita Casprini to deliver a darkened, slightly masculine interior. According to Paszkowski, one of the yacht's key design features is the beach club, which allows in natural light from a glass-bottom pool above and connects to the onboard wellness hub, complete with a hammam and multiple fold-out terrace balconies. 

Casino Royale was sold in an in-house deal by Edmiston .

Italian firm Nuvolari-Lenard did both the interior and exterior design on Ahpo . The yacht itself has an unconventional design, featuring a huge beach club that included a mosaic spa, bamboo-walled treatment rooms, hammam, sauna and drop-down sea terrace.

Beyond that noteworthy area, it also has four pools, a massive gym, multiple lounges. The split-level owner’s suite is part of an owner’s deck that includes four staterooms for the family. There are also staterooms and lounges for the guests, including one that is an IMAX Dolby cinema. The main salon has lounges and a grand piano.

Asian details permeated the interior design. Soft pastel pinks and sage greens were designed in some staterooms while bursts of gold and white marble dominate others. Silk wallpaper, hand embroidery and elaborate inlays depicting flying flamingos, gingko leaves and red maple trees with bluebirds also established a nature-heavy tone.

“Madame wanted the yacht to feel feminine, romantic and linked to nature,” Nuvolari-Lenard’s Valentina Zannier told Robb Report . “It had to reflect their healthy lifestyle with a relaxing Zen quality.”

The boat was offered last summer for charter, and Moran says it will continue to be available for charter. It is PYC-compliant, so has eight staterooms for 16 guests as well as quarters for 24 crew and staff. It also has a fully commercial helipad.

The weekly charter rate is $2.75 million.

The History Supreme Yacht is known as the most expensive superyacht in the world and priced at $4.8 billion dollars, it’s clear to see why. The most expensive yacht in the world in 2024, it’s a 30m vessel that took three years to complete and is crafted from 100,000 kg of solid gold and platinum. Adorning the base of the boat, the dining area, anchor, deck, rail and staircases are steeped in luxury.

Stuart Hughes, the creator of the History Supreme, spoke about the interior materials used in the boat, stating an interesting fact about the sleeping quarters, all of which have a feature wall. [This is] “made from meteoric stone with genuine dinosaur bone shaved in from the raptor T-Rex.” As well as the impressive materials used, the yacht also features an incredible design with both interior and exterior places to relax and be wined and dined in utter opulence.

2. Eclipse ($1.5 billion)

Eclipse is the world’s second most expensive superyacht and was built by Blohm + Voss of Hamburg, Germany. The third longest yacht that is currently afloat, she boasts a plethora of impressive design features that make the high price point so justifiable.

Owned by Roman Abramovich and launched in 2010, it was, at the time, the longest and most expensive private yacht, a title it held for three years. There is an impressive level of security on board, with a missile detection system, self-defence systems and missile launchers should it ever come under attack.

Some of the main features to note on the Eclipse includes 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, a number of hot tubs, three launch boats and a mini-submarine. There is also a disco hall for when those on board who want to dance and let their hair down. Materials used to design the yacht and give it its opulent finish include shells, bronze metal panels, mosaics and fossilised wood.

3. DILBAR ($880 MILLION)

The Dilbar became one of the most expensive mega yacht purchases ever made when the Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov ordered it from the Lurssen shipyard, one of the most famous shipbuilders in the world.

Named by the billionaire after his mother, the 500-foot-long boat has two helipads, a 25-meter pool, a cinema, a spa, a gym, and a nightclub. The interiors are pure luxury and made from natural wood, marble, and gold.

In late 2023, the Dilbar went on the market. Currently, it’s one of the most expensive yachts for sale in the world and is available to anyone who has a cool $800 million to spare.

The yacht was briefly seized as part of the sanctions against Russia. However, after a court challenge, Usmanov got it back and put it up for sale.

4. Azzam ($650 million)

Another of the most expensive private yachts in the world as of 2023, Superyacht Azzam was launched in April 2013, taking over from Eclipse as the world’s largest superyacht. It measures 180m and was designed by Mario Pedol, the founder of Nauta Design.

The yacht is equipped to sleep 36 guests and 80 crew with a large open-plan main saloon. The main details of the interior have been mostly kept under wraps, but it has been said that there’s a wealth of intricate wood furniture on board with mother-of-pearl detailing.

Some of the facilities available for use include a golf training room, onboard gym and swimming pool. Azzam is one of the world’s fastest superyachts and is as fast as a Navy frigate, using similar technology to help it glide through the water. Its speed and manoeuvrability are also helped by its different engines and modes – one built for “sprint” and the other for “long range.”

5.  SAILING YACHT A($578 MILLION)

This Philippe Starck-designed vessel makes our list of very expensive yachts thanks to a stunning price of $578 million. The design is highly distinctive and memorable, with some of its unique features including three large masts and a stunning hull.

Inside, it’s just as intriguing, with some of the on-board amenities, including a pool, gym, jacuzzi, beach club, and a gorgeous water sports platform. 

Widely considered a triumph of design since its launch in 2017, it was seized by Italian authorities in 2022 due to sanctions against Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

6.  Topaz, renamed to A+ ($527 million)

Next on our list of the most expensive private yachts in the world in 2023 is Topaz. The Topaz yacht first came to be in May 2012, being renamed to A+ in 2019. A luxury motor yacht and the fourth most expensive private superyacht in the world, it was designed by Terence Disdale Design, with Tim Heywood designing the exterior. It measures an impressive 147 metres long and was built in the same German shipyard as the Azzam.

The yacht boasts a host of impressive features and amenities, including zero-speed stabilisers, an on-deck jacuzzi, double helicopter landing pads, a tender garage, a swimming pool and swimming platform, a cinema, a fitness hall and a conference room.

According to media reports, the A+ yacht is under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who also owns the investment company ADUG – the owner of Manchester City Football Club. The world’s most expensive superyacht as of 2024, it has 26 cabins on board and can accommodate 62 guests and 79 crew members.

7. KORU ($500 MILLION)

In early 2023, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos took delivery of Koru. While it’s not the costliest yacht in the world, it’s certainly close, thanks to its price of $500 million. At over 400 feet, this elegant schooner features a timeless and elegant interior with plenty of space for relaxing.

Some of the boat’s facilities include a gym, spa, swimming pools, and jacuzzis.. Construction of the vessel was shrouded in secrecy, but some interesting facts have been revealed. First, its name, Koru, comes from the Maori for new beginnings. Secondly, the megayacht has a support vehicle called the Abeona, which provides support staff and a helipad.

8. KATARA ($400 MILLION)

The Katara was built by the famous German shipyard Lurssen in 2012. It was commissioned by Sheikh Hamad, the former Emir of Qatar, and bought for $400 million, which made it the second most expensive boat in the world at the time.

A true marvel of modern engineering and design, the Katara features a gym, jacuzzi, movie theatres, and more in its spacious interiors. What’s more, it’s a very private vessel, with the majority of the vessel’s decks covered up to provide seclusion for guests. 

9. LADY JORGIA ($352 MILLION)

The Lady Jorgia is a nearly 400-foot yacht that was launched in 2021. It became the world’s costliest yacht to be sold in 2023 when Canadian-Jamaican billionaire Michael Lee-Chin sold the boat, then named Apho, to entrepreneur and former Canadian hockey goaltender Patrick Dovigi.

Designed by Nuvolari Lenard and built at the esteemed Lurssen shipyard, the boat features a spa, beach club, cinema, swimming pool, and a huge private apartment. With a high-performance MTU engine and an impressive top speed of 20 knots, this boat is the perfect luxury vehicle for trips around the world.

10. Dubai ($350 million)

Dubai is the world’s second-largest superyacht and is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and Vice President/Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. The fifth most expensive private yacht in the world in 2024, this yacht measures an impressive 162 metres and was first launched back in 2006. With the exterior designed by Andrew Winch and the interior designed by Platinum Yachts, it is truly a luxurious vessel designed to impress.

The construction of Dubai commenced over ten years prior to its launch and was originally named Platinum, Panhandle and Golden Star. Fourth on the list of the most expensive private yachts, there are a host of impressive features on board designed to give guests the most opulent and relaxing experience.

This includes a helipad, two 10m long motor boats, a dining room that can seat up to 90 guests and a swimming pool measuring 10m. There is also a squash court, lobster tank, submarine, cinema, disco room and more.

11. Serene ($330 million)

Serene is one of the largest superyachts in the world as of 2024 and measures an impressive 133.9 metres, with a beam of 18.5 metres.

It was built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and the interiors were designed by Reymond Langton Design. The ship was originally built for Russian vodka tycoon Turi Shefler in 2011 and was sold to Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia in 2014 for an estimated 500 million Euros.

The Serene yacht is built to accommodate up to 24 guests with 12 suites on board – one master, seven double, three twin and one VIP cabin. She can also carry up to 62 crew as well as one captain.

Some of the facilities on board that are designed to entertain guests include a beauty salon, beach club, gym, deck jacuzzi, spa and dancefloor. Impressive both inside and out, it’s clear to see why this is one of the most expensive private yachts in the world in 2024.

12. Superyacht A ($323 million)

Superyacht A is currently owned by Russian entrepreneur and industrialist Andrey Melnichenko and was designed by Philippe Starck in November 2004.

The building took four years and the yacht was launched in January 2008. One of the most expensive private yachts in the world in 2024, Starck has previously spoken of the project to Boat International.

He said, “That was the beauty of the project and the beauty and intelligence of the owner, he just left me completely free.”

When it was first commissioned, there was little known about the superyacht, however, many of the features have since been revealed. It is decorated to the highest of standards with mirrored surfaces and Baccarat crystal furniture pieces.

There is a helipad, three swimming pools and a disco room as well as seven guest cabins that feature moving walls to be converted into four larger staterooms.

13. Radiant ($320 million)

Next on our list of the most expensive yachts in the world in 2023 is Radiant – a motor private yacht that was built in 2009. It measures an impressive 110 metres with a beam of 16 metres.

The interior was designed by Glen Pushelburg while the exterior was designed by Tim Heywood and is built of steel and aluminium.

The owner of the Radiant yacht is Emirati billionaire Abdulla Al Futtaim.

There are a host of facilities on board the yacht, including zero-speed stabilisers, a helipad, a massage room, a swimming platform, a jacuzzi, a movie theatre, a swimming pool, a beach club and more.

Radiant is one of the most expensive private yacht charters and sleeps 20 people, with 10 individually designed cabins on board. It can also hold up to 44 members of crew.

14. Al Said ($300 million)

Al Said is one of the most expensive private yachts in the world and features an impressive exterior design by Espen Øino International and an interior designed by RWD.

It has a length of 155m and a spacious interior, with room for up to 70 guests and 174 crew members, as well as the captain.

As with a lot of the most expensive private superyachts out there, the finer details of what the yacht features are kept largely under wraps.

It is said to have a concert room that can accommodate a 50-piece orchestra – ideal for entertaining guests. When the Al Said was being built, she was given the code name “Project Sunflower” and was finished in 2008 before being presented to the yacht’s owner, The Sultan of Oman.

The yacht is said to reside in the Sultan Qaboos Port the majority of the time, although it was revealed relatively recently that it has been sold. The specific details of this have not yet been released.

15. Pelorus ($300 million)

The Pelorus yacht was ordered in 1999, and entered service in 2003.

It was sold to Roman Abramovich during its maiden voyage, who added further enhancements to the design, such as a second helipad, modifications to the underwater exhaust and upgraded zero-speed stabilisers to give it a more steady ride through the water.

The yacht has passed hands a couple of times throughout the years and is currently owned by Chinese billionaire Samuel Tak Lee, who took over ownership in 2016.

This last entrance on our 2024 list of the most expensive superyacht in the world has accommodation for 24 guests and 46 members of the crew, including the captain.

The actual features of the yacht itself are mostly kept under wraps, but it went through a major refit in 2018 that was carried out by Kusch Yachts.

The Super Yacht Industry

The superyacht market was valued at around $10 billion in 2023 , with a healthy CAGR of between 6.7% and 8.6% . While many predicted that difficult macroeconomic conditions, alongside political sanctions on Russia, might put a dent in the industry, the contraction never materialized. Instead, 2023 was a bumper year, with experts predicting the market will balloon to $18 billion or more by 2032. 

The last few years in the superyacht space have been interesting. COVID-19 restrictions caused a drip in the leisure market, which, according to Fortune Business insights, saw “many potential buyers postpone or cancel their purchases, causing a decline in sales.” However, the market swiftly bounced back stronger than ever.

Health concerns about catching COVID led to a great appreciation for the isolation and safety provided by super yachts. While this led many to restrict their travel, those with access to superyachts could enjoy their holidays in controlled safety and luxurious conditions. 

However, more tests were around the corner for the superyacht industry. While North America makes up 30% of the superyacht market, many of the most prominent buyers are Russian oligarchs. The conflict in Ukraine resulted in a raft of restrictions that saw many of these individuals’ fortunes and yachts seized. 

Finally, as central banks cut interest rates and global economies were thrust into chaos, the number of billionaires in the world declined slightly , lowering the range of people who could credibly own a very expensive boat like a superyacht.

However, despite these blows, the market continues to show resilience at every level. Even the most modest superyacht will cost at least $10 million , which puts them in reach of Credit Suisse’s classification of ultra-high net worth and high net worth individuals . With recreational spending one of the biggest growth areas, superyachts continue to make an impact.

Superyacht trends to look out for in 2024 and beyond

What is the future of this resilient industry? Plain sailing or being dashed on the rocks?

1. Sustainability

Superyachts have a well-earned reputation as fuel-guzzling machines. However, sustainability is becoming an important consideration in the space. International standards for CO2 are being agreed upon, which has led superyacht manufacturers to explore battery-powered, zero-emission, green vehicles.

2. Innovation

Innovation in recent years has focused on fuel efficiency and sustainability. However, many manufacturers are focusing on making yachts more luxurious and autonomous.

The average superyacht requires a crew of between 15 and 20 people. Indeed, yachts employ around 150,000 across the world. However, AI technology could augment these workers and help with navigation, docking, security, and more.

3. Growth of wealth

As the number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals around the world grows again, interest in superyachts will expand due to their importance as a status symbol and the enjoyability and luxury they provide.

Fraser Yachts’ marketing insights for 2023 suggest that around 40% of charter customers are new buyers , which shows the appetite and demand for superyachts is not going anywhere just yet.

Take a sneak peek at the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

• The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
• Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
• These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Nobu Penthouse Sets a Record for Most Expensive Apartment Ever Sold in Abu Dhabi

A real estate record has been set in Abu Dhabi with the recent sale of a lavish AED 137 million (US$37.3 million) penthouse.  

The three-bedroom home at the Nobu Residences on Saadiyat Island now ranks as the most expensive apartment ever sold in the city, according to Aldar, the project’s developer. The unit, which spans 1,430 square meters, or roughly 15,400 square feet, also represents the highest price per square meter achieved in Abu Dhabi’s history at more than AED 96,000.

The full-floor penthouse crowns the development, which will be one of the first branded residences in the Middle East from the renowned luxury hospitality group, best known for its upscale restaurants, when it’s completed in the second quarter of 2027. 

The milestone transaction “not only sets a new benchmark for residential property in Abu Dhabi but also underscores the maturity of the real estate market,” said Talal Al Dhiyebi, group CEO at Aldar. 

“Year on year, we are seeing healthy increases in both the volume and value of homes purchased, driven by supportive government policies and initiatives that have increased the attractiveness of Abu Dhabi as a place where people want to live and see real opportunity for investment,” Dhiyebi added.  

Mansion Global couldn’t identify the buyer, but their new penthouse will boast a host of high-end amenities, from a private pool to a fitness studio and views of the upcoming Guggenheim Museum, expected to be completed in 2025, and Saadiyat Beach.

There’ll also be a personal wellness retreat and a kitchen inspired by chef Nobu Matsuhisa and primed for entertaining. Residents will be taken through a bespoke design process to personalize the finishing details of the interior architecture. 

The penthouse isn’t the only big-ticket deal to have been made so far at the development—which will be home to one-to-three-bedroom apartments, penthouses, lofts and sky villas along with a 125-key hotel. A four-bedroom duplex sky villa recently sold for AED 130 million, according to the developer.

T ell someone you bought a car at auction, and it could mean anything: perhaps you simply picked up a cheap Volkswagen on eBay and hope it'll see you through a few months until you move on to something new. But tell someone you bought a racing car at auction, and we're talking about an entirely different ball game.

Elevate the glamor even further and raise your hand to place the winning bid on a Formula One car . You just secured a ticket to an incredibly exclusive club — not to mention the keys to a significant piece of automotive history.

By their very nature, Formula One cars command huge prices at auction. But almost as vast is the difference between a back-of-the-grid car driven once by a rookie at a test session to championship-winning slices of motorsport royalty. That's what you'll find in this list as we look at the most expensive F1 cars sold at auction.

As ever with car auction records, there are a lot of Ferraris  driven by Michael Schumacher here. You'll also find cars by McLaren and Mercedes too.

1993 McLaren MP4/8A – $4.6 Million

This McLaren carries chassis number MP4/8-6 and is the actual car driven by Ayrton Senna to his record-breaking 6th Monaco Grand Prix win during the 1993 Formula One season. The car was described by Bonhams at the time of its sale in 2018 as "the most historically important Formula 1 McLaren ever presented at auction."

The car was also described as "startlingly well-preserved" and fully functional, with matching numbers on its chassis, engine, and gearbox — all of which were the actual items used by Senna during his final Monaco victory. This isn't always the case with F1 cars that come up for auction, as the same chassis might use several engines and gearboxes throughout each season.

Crashed by Senna during practice for the 1993 Monaco GP and repaired in time for the race, the car was bought directly from McLaren founder Ron Dennis in 2006, when no other example of any MP4 race car was privately owned outside of the British team.

2010 McLaren MP4-25A – $6 Million

Sold in 2021, this McLaren is the first race-winning Lewis Hamilton F1 car to be offered to the public. Hamilton drove this car to victory in the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix and battled closely against Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher at that year's Chinese Grand Prix.

The car was described by RM Sotheby's ahead of its auction as the "single greatest item of Lewis Hamilton memorabilia ever to be offered for sale." Also driven by fellow World Champion Jenson Button during the 2010 season, the car — chassis number 25A-01 — was the first MP4-25A built by the McLaren-Mercedes team and took part in nine races that year.

McLaren retained the car in as-raced condition before it was restored by McLaren Racing Heritage in 2019. This included a complete disassembly, followed by parts being X-rayed, tested, and replaced where needed. It was then tested on track before being disassembled and inspected again through 2020 and 2021, then offered for auction in fully-operational condition.

The auction took place during the weekend of the 2021 British Grand Prix, and instead of being presented as a motionless vehicle, the F1 car was demonstrated on track in front of over 100,000 race fans.

1998 Ferrari F300 – $6.46 Million

As with road cars and sports racers, this list of the most expensive F1 cars is dominated by Ferraris. In fifth place, we have the F300 from 1998, which was most recently sold in the summer of 2022. At the time of its sale,  RM Sotheby's auction house described the car as "the most successful undefeated Ferrari Formula One chassis across all eras."

As claims to fame go, that sounds pretty special, doesn't it? Driven by Michael Schumacher, this exact car won four races back-to-back through the summer of the 1998 season, including the Grand Prix of Canada, France, Britain, and Italy.

The car was bought directly from Ferrari by its previous owner in 1999, along with a small package of spare parts. It was then kept in the same race-used condition as it remained at the time of its auction in 2022. The car was not used or even shown in public by its pre-auction owner throughout their 23 years of ownership.

2002 Ferrari F2002 – $6.73 Million

Another ex-Schumacher Ferrari auctioned by RM Sotheby's, this time from the 2002 season, and the winning chassis of the San Marino, Austrian, and French Grand Prix — a performance that helped the German driver secure his fifth F1 World Championship.

Unlike the previous car that went unused after entering public ownership, this Ferrari was auctioned after being certified by Ferrari Classiche and race-prepared for the company's Corse Clienti events, where owners of such vehicles can race them with full factory support. Before it was sold, the car underwent an engine and transmission rebuild, no doubt at great expense to the seller.

Although this exact chassis won three races, the model itself was even more successful. All chassis entered by Ferrari for the 2002 F1 season won 15 races, secured 11 pole positions, and clocked up 15 fastest laps across the 19-race campaign. Those stats make the Ferrari F2002 one of the most successful F1 cars ever.

The car, chassis number 219, was acquired by a Japanese collector who also bought chassis 220, says  RM Sotheby's , another Ferrari F2002 which competed in the same season. It was sold at an auction held at the Yas Marina Circuit during the weekend of the 2022 Abu Dhabi GP. A portion of the proceeds were given to the Keep Fighting Foundation, launched by Schumacher's family in 2016 to support charitable projects.

2001 Ferrari F2001 – $7.5 Million

Surprise! It's another ex-Schumacher Ferrari. The third most expensive Formula One car of all time was an F2001 from the 2001 season, which sold in 2017 for $7.5m, smashing the RM Sotheby's auction estimate of between $4m and $5.5m.

Powered by a screaming V10 engine producing 900 horsepower and spinning to almost 19,000 rpm, the F2001 comes from a golden era of Formula One. This particular example, chassis 211, saw Michael Schumacher win the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix.

This car was also driven to victory by Schumacher at the Hungarian Grand Prix the same year — a win that secured the German his fourth Formula One World Championship, and he also brought home the Constructors' Championship for Ferrari. The car also took part in warm-up and qualifying sessions at the Spanish, Canadian, European, French, Belgian, and Italian Grand Prix races.

RM Sotheby's describes this particular Ferrari as "a car of tremendous historic importance to the driver, the enthusiast, the grand prix circuit and indeed the brand that is the black Prancing Horse of Maranello."

2003 Ferrari F2003 – $14.6 Million

The record price takes a huge jump forward for this entry. It's yet another ex-Schumacher Ferrari, which sold for almost $15m this time, far exceeding its upper estimate of around $11m.

An F2003-GA, this car was campaigned by Ferrari in the 2003 Formula One season and is the very car in which Schumacher secured his sixth and penultimate World Championship. This particular model, chassis 229, was the most successful of the six F2003-GAs produced for the 2003 season and, according to RM Sotheby's auction house, is one of only four Schumacher-era Ferraris to win five races or more in a season.

The car was overhauled at Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, Italy, in 2022, with only 148 miles covered between then and the auction later that year. All major components, including the gearbox, clutch, and hydraulic system, had "covered only a small percentage of their current lifecycle," the Sotheby's said ahead of the auction.

1954 Mercedes W196R – $29.65 Million

And finally...not a Ferrari, a McLaren, a Williams, or a Mercedes driven by Lewis Hamilton. Instead of those likely candidates, the title of the most expensive Formula One car ever sold goes to the Mercedes-Benz W196R from 1954.

Driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, Bonhams auctioned the single-seater at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the hammer fell at $29,650,000, just under $39m today. At the time, that price also made it the most expensive car ever sold at auction, almost doubling the previous record.

Powered by a 2.5-liter, straight-eight engine, the car took Fangio to the second of his five World Championship titles. Chassis number 00006/54, Fangio also used it to win the 1954 German and Swiss Grand Prix races.

The car was given by Mercedes to the UK's National Motor Museum in Beaulieu in 1973, writes the Bonhams auction house . With Mercedes ' permission, the museum then sold the car in 1987 to Sir Anthony Bamford, chairman of the JCB excavator company and renowned car collector. It was later passed between several European collectors before setting the F1 auction record at Goodwood in 2013.
