Less than a year after unveiling the WiLder 60 , Wider has launched the first example of the new model.

“The launch of the first WiLder 60 in Fano is not just a milestone for Wider and for the WiLder brand, but also represents a leap forward in what a 60-footer can offer and how can be built,” Maggi said in a statement.

Built to her European owner’s exacting specifications, the first example has a custom layout and bespoke finishes. The interior features two twin guest cabins amidship and a large owner’s suite forward. Between the accommodation lies a sprawling salon with a designer galley and relaxation area. Wider says the decor hints at “elegant debauchery,” with luxurious leathers contrasting sleek marbles and sumptuous fabrics.

Outside, there’s a party deck forward and a social deck aft with sun pads and an alfresco dining area. The helm sits neatly at the center, with a windshield protecting seafarers from the elements. This speedster is sure to generate some spray, too.

Crafted entirely from lightweight aluminum, the sleek performance hull is engineered to slice through the waves. The 60 is equipped with a pair of 1,300 hp MAN V-8 engines that give it a cruising speed of 35 knots, a maximum speed of 40 knots, and a range of 325 nautical miles. The yacht also has a shallow draft of just over 3 feet, enabling cruising in shallow waters.

The inaugural hull was launched at Wider’s Vision Hub in Fano, but the rest of the WiLder series will be built at its Superyacht Hub in Venice. There are already two more bespoke WiLder 60s under construction, too. Stay tuned.

Wider new shipyard in Fano: to open a first production area in early 2023

It’s been less than a year since the building plans for Wider‘s new shipyard in Fano were announced. Today, the high-tech facility under construction in Fano is on track to open a first production area in early 2023.

With the heavy foundation work almost complete, the 18,000-sqm seafront site between Fano’s fishing port and the tourist marina is scheduled to start up production in next February.

“The new shipyard will be a real innovation centre,” says Marcello Maggi, who heads up W-Fin Sarl, the holding Company that owns 100% of Wider equity. “It’s where all our future boats, new green technologies and new ideas coming from start-uppers will come to life in full compliance with environmental issues. In other words, a pole of excellence not only for the city of Fano, but also for the Italian boatbuilding industry.”

Stretching over the edge of Fano’s waterfront, the new facility will at once embody and nurture Wider’s vision of a more sustainable nautical world. The first project to be assembled in the new facility, which includes 350 linear metres of quayside and a travel lift, will be the WiderCat 92, the power catamaran series designed by Luca Dini and Wider Centro Stile and equipped with Wider Serial Hybrid Propulsion System, of which five units have already been sold.

Marcello Maggi was keen that local firms should benefit from the investment. He wanted this important project to be conceived and developed by someone capable of reinterpreting the brand's philosophy in an architectural key and also a professional close to the local area. Here the choice fell on the crisply contemporary design of the architects Alessandro Massari and Mauro Cavicchi of the Massari Design Architecture Studio based in Fano.

“The brief was for a structure based on sustainable principles and striking design that also provided the kind of the functional efficiencies associated with modern boatbuilding processes,” says Massari. “It’s not easy to design something that is beautiful but also practical from an industrial perspective.

My own studio is just a few hundred metres from the site of the new shipyard, so like other inhabitants of the town it was very important for me that the building should look good and not be an eyesore.”

Although 14 metres in height, the building’s profile is broken up by large glass surfaces so both office staff and workers on the shop floor can benefit from plenty of natural light. The seaward-facing exterior wall features a stylised outline of Wider yacht that looks like it is floating in the marina. Materials, components and the finished yachts can be easily moved in and out of the shed via four enormous doorways for each of the two sides facing the east and west of the building.

With sustainability a key factor in Wider’s corporate mission, the sheer size of the construction project, once completed, also means the roof will be covered by solar cells and the facility is expected to be virtually self-sufficient in renewable solar power.

The final cladding materials that serve to break up the building’s monumental outline are still being selected, but the slats that covers the exterior walls will likely be of bamboo-based Wood Plastic Composite that is 100% recyclable, resistant to humidity and UV light, and does not deform or discolor over time.

First WiderCat 92 catamaran Acali launched in Fano

Wider Yachts ' first multihull offering has hit the water in Fano, Italy. Christened Acali , outfitting on the WiderCat 92 will continue prior to sea trials and commissioning.

The 28-metre composite catamaran has been designed in collaboration with Luca Dini and built to RINA class. Highlights include a main deck dedicated to the owner, expansive beach club and hybrid propulsion system. 

The WiderCat 92 offers large interior volumes granted by her 12-metre beam. The main deck, in particular, is dedicated to the owner's cabin and made complete with a private foredeck lounge that occupies nearly half of the total space. Accommodation is for eight guests across four cabins and a crew of four.

Equipped with a transom hatch, the tender garage can transform into a spacious swim platform, while the 67-square-metre beach club benefits from fold-down bulwarks, direct access to the VIP cabin and discreet water toy storage (including space for a 4.5-metre tender and Jet Ski).

"The WiderCat 92 is a collective masterpiece, a synthesis of vision, craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology," said Marcello Maggi, head of W-Fin Sarl (the holding company that owns 100 per cent of Wider equity). "Each designer, engineer and craftsman has poured their passion into this endeavour. As we celebrate this achievement, I have full confidence that, just as in our previous milestones, theWiderCat 92 will set a new standard in the industry."

The WiderCat 92 is also powered by a hybrid propulsion system that works in tandem with 150-square-metre solar panels to power both the propulsion system and hotel load. While at anchor, any unused power is sent to recharge the battery pack for consumption thanks to a dedicated Battery Management System. For limited periods, the yacht can run in full-electric mode for silent and vibration-free cruising. 

This hybrid system will allow for a top speed of 15 knots with a cruising range of 3,000 nautical miles at a speed of eight knots.
