Charter a yacht in the BVI's

The British Virgin Islands include Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, and more. There’s no better way to experience the waters and beaches of the BVI's than on a private Caribbean charter with a full crew to pamper you. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, the Virgins are furthest north. This makes them very convenient due to the proximity to San Juan and due to their direct flights from the United States. Catamaran sailing vacations and crewed sailing charters are very popular in the islands, and their protected waters make them a favorite spot for guests that are taking their first private Caribbean yacht charter. To learn more about them:

Charter a yacht in the USVI

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist mainly of the three large islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. With lovely bays, long beaches, lush nature preserves, fabulous diving spots, and excellent, onshore evening entertainment, many choose to vacation in the USVI’s. Caribbean charters often visit both the BVI’s and USVI’s during the same week, as they are close to one another and the waters are generally calmer than in other parts of the Caribbean. They in general are also home to the largest fleet of crewed, all-inclusive, luxury catamarans. To find out more about them:

Charter a Caribbean yacht

The Leewards are situated in the middle of the Caribbean Island chain. The major airports are located on St. Maarten and Antigua. Due to the English, Dutch, and French influences everywhere you look, they exhibit the best example of cultural sophistication anywhere within the Caribbean. If you are looking to see where the rich and famous go on vacation, you will want to visit the island of St. Barts; for many this is a must stop for a Caribbean yacht charter. Many mega yachts are available for rental in St. Maarten, as it has become a popular mega yacht Caribbean base for the winter. To learn more about the Leewards:

Grenadines

The Grenadines are also called The Windward Islands. Oftentimes our guests will choose a sailing charter over a motor yacht when in the Grenadines, due to the more constant tropical breezes that occur. The islands are much less developed than the rest of the Caribbean, and the inhabitants live on their own time schedule, which enhances the feeling of getting away. The northern most island accessible by air is ST. Vincent, while the southern tip’s major airport is on Grenada. There are fewer Caribbean charter yachts based here; however, occasionally some charter yachts are happy to relocate in order to offer a vacation that happens a little off the beaten path. To find out more about the Grenadines:

What Type of Charter Yacht?

There are all types of Caribbean yacht charters available, including mega yachts, power yachts, catamarans, and sailboats. We have helped countless clients choose the right charter yacht, learning what features and amenities make a difference on caribbean charter yachts. Learn more about different types of Caribbean yachts.

Where Can You Go?

Typically you’ll choose between the Virgins, Leewards, and the Grenadines to charter your yacht. Beyond the region, it is your Caribbean to explore. It’s important for you to remember that there is no cruise ship itinerary to worry about! Your itinerary will be custom designed specifically for you, with you, and is flexible to changes during your charter. We have put together some samples for you to get an idea of what you might like to do while on vacation in the Caribbean. Interested in seeing a sample cruise itinerary ?

Caribbean Charters - When To Go.

One of the lovely things about the Caribbean is that the temperatures remain consistent throughout the year; however, there are some other weather considerations that you will want to factor in when making your caribbean yachting vacation plans. Read More....

Vacations here are most popular between November and July.

If you are thinking of a megayacht, you will want to keep in mind that many of these private yachts which are Caribbean based in winter leave in the late spring and early summer months. They will return again in early winter; however, this does limit their availability. To charter a mega yacht, you will want to make sure that you do so well in advance.

Motor, sail, or catamaran yachts, on the other hand, often have selections available year round. Holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter do need to be planned for as early as possible as these are very popular charter times.

The availability for Caribbean charters can also be affected by the weather in other climates, for instance, when the severity of the weather is bad in the United States or Europe, especially between January and February, the charters are often booked. This is due to many clients looking for a break from the cold.

What Do Our Clients Say About The Caribbean?

Are you excited yet? You should be! Our clients have enjoyed fantastic Caribbean vacations. There is an endless number of places to visit in the Caribbean, from smaller islands to absolutely must be seen locations like St. Barts. Caribbean Yachting Season

The Caribbean high season for yacht charters runs from mid-December to early May, with Christmas and New Year’s the most popular and busiest times of the year. But due to the islands’ locations near the equator, temperatures remain ideal throughout the year, making off-season charters just as enjoyable.

Keep in mind, however, that there is an increased chance for storms and hurricanes during the summer season, mainly from mid-August to mid-November. Most charter yachts leave the area during that time.

Area Guide: Caribbean Charter Destinations

A girl snorkeling in the BVI

Are you ready to explore all that the Caribbean has to offer? There are three main island areas in the Caribbean, all fantastic destinations for Caribbean charter yacht vacations.

The Grenadines

The Grenadines are untouched by mass tourism and industry, and they are the perfect charter destination if you are looking for solitude and you enjoy exploring remote areas. A great combination of lush rain forests and sandy beaches awaits!

This is a great summer charter destination because the islands aren’t usually affected by hurricanes.

The Leeward Islands

Leeward Islands yacht rentals offer the perfect combination of luxury and solitude. You can visit the glitzy islands of St. Maarten and St. Barts one day and get lost in the remoteness and tranquility of Anguilla the next day.

These islands are rich in history and offer great restaurants, upscale resorts, and trendy harbors.

The Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are the perfect location for first-time charterers and families because of their calm waters, protected natural anchorages, and short distances between the islands.

The BVI are a great destination for a catamaran or sailing yacht charter. Caribbean locations here have constant yet mild trade winds year round, and the area offers fantastic diving and snorkeling.

Where Can I Charter a Yacht?

When you choose Worldwide Boat as your Caribbean yacht charter broker, we can help you charter a luxury boat anywhere in the Caribbean or anywhere else you’d like to go, from the Mediterranean to Alaska to the Galapagos Islands.

How Do I Book a Private Yacht?

The best Caribbean yacht charters can be booked in just a few easy steps:

  • Choose our experienced yacht charter specialists to assist you through the process of booking a yacht.
  • Search by destination or by boat, or use our advanced search tool to filter your options by the number of guests, yacht type, destination, and/or your budget.
  • Pick the option that best fits your needs and your dream vacation.
  • Reserve your yacht by signing a contract with the yacht owner.
  • Enjoy your vacation!

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

Weekly rates for Caribbean boat charters are dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the season, and your destination. Motor yachts, for example, typically range from $15,000 (yachts up to 80 feet) to $150,000 or more (yachts over 150 feet) per week.

During the Caribbean high season (Christmas, New Year’s, and January/February), yacht charter Caribbean prices tend to increase slightly. Areas with large charter fleets, like St. Martin, tend to have more competitive pricing than areas with smaller fleets.

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Catamaran in the Caribbean?

Most catamarans offer all-inclusive rates, which start at $10,000 for catamarans under 50 feet and run up to $50,000 or more for catamarans of 80 feet or more. The Caribbean is an ideal destination for a catamaran charter, and across the region, you’ll find a variety of sailing and power cats available for charter.

Ultimately, the cost of a catamaran charter is dependent on the time you visit, where you go, local taxes, and the number of ports you visit. A luxury yacht charter in the Caribbean’s high season (New Year’s or Christmas) will cost significantly more than a catamaran charter in summer.

Can I Rent a Yacht for a Day?

Rates for yacht rentals are usually weekly, but when you talk to a Caribbean yacht charter broker at Worldwide Boat, we can look at your budget, plans, and interests to help you get the best experience possible.

Caribbean Yachting Hotspots

Caribbean sailing charters give you access to white-sand beaches and laid-back island vibes, but they can also offer action-packed itineraries. From island-hopping and hiking to snorkeling and cliff-jumping, adventure awaits on a Caribbean yacht charter!

Some of the region’s must-see destinations include:

  • St. Martin : Known for its upscale eateries and amazing cuisine, as well as high-end spas, shopping and casinos, St. Martin is the yachting capital of the Caribbean. This island is part French and part Dutch, and it’s close to islands like St. Barts and Anguilla, making it a favorite jumping-off point for island-hopping adventures.
  • St. Barts : St. Barts (sometimes called St. Barths) beckons A-listers to its posh beach clubs, fashionable shops, and five-star eateries. Visitors will find a collection of truly spectacular powdery beaches, Michelin-starred restaurants, and excellent shoreside amenities, all within cruising distance of St. Martin.
  • Antigua : Antigua epitomizes the relaxation and bliss of the Caribbean. Known for its 365 beaches (one for every day of the year), the tiny island is a sailor’s dream, offering warm waters, steady winds, safe anchorages, and a lively regatta calendar.
  • Grenada : Grenada is revered for its beautiful beaches, abundant marine wildlife, and vibrant cuisine (spiced with local nutmeg, mace, and allspice). Spend a day relaxing on Grand Anse Beach, which is consistently ranked one of the best in the world. Island-hop to neighboring isles like Petite Martinique, or spend a day snorkeling one of Grenada’s famous reefs.
  • Anguilla : Anguilla is one of the most tranquil Leeward islands. Escape to Dream Bay or one of the numerous nearby coral cays for some supreme R&R. A diving and snorkeling mecca, Anguilla is home to some of the Caribbean’s best shipwreck dives. Plus, the island boasts a calendar of must-see festivals and events, including a jazz festival in November and Carnival in August.

Why Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

The best Caribbean yacht charters offer a bit of everything: Relaxation, sun-soaked beaches, delicious culinary treats, refreshing rum-infused cocktails, and calm waters for cruising. Here are some highlights:

The Inescapable Beauty of White-Sand Beaches

Caribbean beaches have almost a mythical quality to them. It’s no wonder explorers were once willing to board wooden ships and travel thousands of miles just to see them in person.

Every island offers a selection of untouched and charming beaches for you to explore. From one-of-a-kind places like “Pig Beach” in the Bahamas to the cosmopolitan Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg, St. Martin, the beaches across the Caribbean offer legendary sights and attractions.

Colorful Celebrations and Friendly Faces

The Caribbean is known for its parades, bars, nightclubs, and parties, not to mention world-famous cocktails. When you want to step off of your luxury yacht charter, Caribbean shores and islands offer a world of fun to immerse yourself in.

A few must-see events include the St. Barth’s Bucket (if you’re into superyacht racing), the annual Carnival celebration, and the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival .

Amazing Wildlife and Adventure

If snorkeling in vibrant and colorful coral reefs, diving into underwater museums, or parasailing over clear waters are some of the items on your bucket list, you can certainly get it all done during your visit to the Caribbean.

You’ll find a variety of unique adventures, from the underwater sculpture park of the Grenadines to the natural seaside baths in Virgin Gorda and hiking the Pitons in St. Lucia. The Caribbean gives you to plenty of chances to get outside and enjoy yourself.

Nonstop Relaxation

Because the area is so close to the equator, the Caribbean offers warm weather to lounge in all year round. Feel pampered aboard a luxury crewed rental yacht, and then feel calm while sinking your toes into soft, powdery white sand. Enjoy the spas, rum cocktails, and quiet, isolated beaches: Charter guests can experience supreme relaxation in the Caribbean.

Caribbean Sailing Charters

Oyster Yachts on Caribbean Sailing Yacht Charters

This stunning cruising ground is everything you would imagine and so much more. In the British Virgin Islands (BVIs), Caribbean sailing yacht charter guests can spend their days snorkelling vibrant coral reefs before visiting the famous Soggy Dollar Bar - known for its intoxicating Painkiller cocktail - for a night you’ll never forget.

Caribbean sailing charters.

A sailing holiday in the Windward Islands makes for a bounty of wild experiences; allow the scent of exotic spice to enchant you as splash in Grenada’s crystal-clear waters, or discover real island living in Barbados.

In the Leeward Islands, St Kitts promises rugged adventure while  Caribbean sailing holidays  to Antigua offer a chic escape complete with Michelin-Star cuisine. The unspoiled Grenadines are the place to come if you seek undisturbed relaxation, the most untouched of all the Caribbean island groups.

Oyster offers sailing yacht charters exploring every one of these blissful regions. Read on to learn more.

CRUISING GUIDE: CARIBBEAN SAILING YACHT CHARTERS

The best time to visit the Caribbean by sailing yacht charter is between December and April. Although the region is known for having a permanently glorious climate, averaging between 24-29°C/75.2-84.2°F all year round, a visit during these months offers lower humidity and less chance of rainfall. It also falls outside of the June-November hurricane season. You can expect temperatures of around 26°C/78.8°F and blissfully calm waters, perfect for bathing away your troubles or getting your heart racing with some exhilarating watersports.

Some of the most popular times for crewed Caribbean sailing yacht charters include the Christmas and New Year’s period and the Easter weekend when the islands fill up with festivities. You will discover more secluded sailing destinations and deserted beaches outside of these peak holidays, but the festive magic is hard to beat. The choice is yours...

Maximising your island-hopping experience onboard a Carribean sailing yacht charter allows you to explore every little bay that takes your fancy. Drop anchor by tiny secluded coves and discover deserted islands where you really can get away from it all.

For skippered Caribbean sailing holidays, look no further than Oyster. Our beautiful boats are light and spacious with luxurious furnishings that prioritise comfort without compromising on practicality. Large windows below decks mean you’ll be able to spot every single palm tree that dots the horizon, while our highly-professional crew come equipped with a local’s knowledge of every part of the Caribbean.

Explore this stunning region on one of our  luxury sailing yachts , or read on to learn about sailing the beautiful island groups of the Caribbean.

Sailing in the British Virgin Islands

An iconic cruising ground for Carribean sailing holidays, the BVIs are not to be missed. With nightlife that will have you dancing until dawn, seafood restaurants with fresh tuna and gin-clear waters offering perfect conditions for snorkelling and diving, this is the epitome of island living. Sail out to the caves at Norman Island to swim amongst exotic sea life and marvel at the vibrant colours. For charter guests who want nothing more than to lie on the sand and relax, cruise over to Anguilla, where the island’s flat topography makes for some truly phenomenal beaches. As the sun begins to set, head to The Rum Bar at Cooper Island, or for those who want to party all night, why not hop between the many lively bars on Jost Van Dyke.

The BVIs provide a delightful climate throughout the peak charter season: a perfect escape from the colder weather of the Northern Hemisphere.

Sailing in the Windward Islands

The Windward Islands deliver surprise after surprise on any Carribean sailing holiday, with each island full of its own unique character. St Lucia promises a vibrant history and rugged landscape - hike the Pitons for some truly incredible views across the islands and out to sea. Bequia is considered by some as the perfect Caribbean island, its difficult to get to by aeroplane meaning it has been protected from mass tourism, preserving all of its natural beauty. Glamourous Mustique is the favourite holiday spot of A-List celebrities and supermodels. However, despite its famous visitors, this three-mile haven is surprisingly low-key, with only one (extremely elegant) hotel on the island.

Authentic Caribbean living and jaw-dropping natural beauty await in the Grenadines - a 35-island region that lies within the Windwards. Snorkel in the Tobago Cays to meet friendly marine turtles and revel in the untouched landscape. Head to Mayreau for the wild nightlife and swim at best-kept-secret beach Salt Whistle Bay. Try your hand at kiteboarding on Union Island, and hang out with the locals in this laid-back set of villages. Caribbean sailing yacht charterers will love the variety of experiences that await in this cruising ground.

Head to the Windward Islands from December through to April to experience them at their best, with a multitude of fantastic events across all the islands. Look out for the Barbados Film Festival, now in its third edition and normally held in late January, or the lively Carriacou Carnival in mid-February. Also, visit in February to experience the yearly St. Vincent Yacht Club Regatta, or in March for the Saint Vincent’s Blues and Rhythms Festival.

Sailing in the Leeward islands

The Leeward Islands are famous for their good sailing winds, making them a must-visit destination for experienced sailors or those on skippered Caribbean sailing holidays, where the crew will guide your vessel while you simply relax. Head to Antigua, one of the most important superyacht hubs in the Caribbean, for unmatched glamour and a rich history. Don’t leave without touring Nelson’s Dockyard, the preserved 18th-century base of the British Fleet in the West Indies.

As the smallest landmass ever to be divided between two nations, St Martin/St Maarten offers a chance to experience both French and Dutch culture while revelling in the island’s majestic green peaks and crystal-clear waters. Heavenly St Barts has not one but fourteen gorgeous beaches at which to stretch out and do nothing or to get your pulse racing with some exhilarating water sports. Meanwhile, on St Kitts and Nevis, lose yourself in sugar plantation history at the UNESCO-protected Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. This is an island group for those with an adventurous spirit, but it wouldn’t be a Caribbean sailing yacht charter destination without also being packed full of amazing beaches upon which you can soak up the sun.

In peak sailing season, the Leeward Islands offer the lowest humidity of all the Caribbean islands - perfect for keeping cool during those more challenging hikes - and temperatures average between 27°C/81°F and 35°C/95°F, ideal for lazy days on the beach.

The island offers a relaxed and carefree atmosphere where one can savor life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy soaking up the sun on the island’s pretty beaches, or enjoy a handcrafted cocktail and fresh catch of the day at one of the many local restaurants and beach-side bars. Make sure you leave time to ride the Sugar Train, a scenic railway route that was originally used to transport sugar.

The Caribbean is a year-round destination, but the best time to go on a yacht charter is during the high season from December to April. This is when the weather is at its best, with clear skies, calm seas, and warm temperatures. However, this is also the busiest time, so be sure to book your charter well in advance. The low season from May to November is known for its occasional rain showers, but it's also a great time to find deals and avoid the crowds.

Weather Considerations and Navigating the Hurricane Season

Understanding the Caribbean's tropical climate, which includes sudden rainfalls even in high season, is crucial for planning your Caribbean yacht charter. The hurricane season runs from June to November, offering lower prices but requiring flexible travel plans due to potential disruptions. Most charter companies provide insurance or guarantees for hurricane-related issues.

Special Events and Festivals

The Caribbean hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year, which can be a delightful addition to your yacht charter experience. Planning your trip around events like the St. Barth's Bucket Regatta or Antigua Sailing Week can add an exciting dimension to your holiday.

Take a journey into the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean with a yacht charter to Anguilla . Flying directly into any significant airport on this quaint island is impossible. However, chartering a yacht offers visitors easy access to some of the region's best beaches.

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda are excellent destinations for a private yacht rental Caribbean . With its crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and lush vegetation, Antigua is a paradise. Trade winds make the temperatures comfortable.

Whether you're looking to relax or party in the Leeward Islands, Antigua and Barbuda has something for everyone. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, exploring historic sites from colonial times, or indulging in world-class cuisine.

This country has more than 365 beaches.

St. Vincent & The Grenadines

St. Vincent is a great place to enjoy the sun and swim in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. You can relax on powdery white sand beaches. Or stroll to discover a waterfall cascading from a cave covered in ferns within a lush, green forest.

Or you can explore historic sites like the Falls of Baleine or Queen Elizabeth Park Botanical Gardens. There is also no shortage of water activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing!

Guadeloupe | Caribbean Charters

Guadeloupe is the Caribbean yacht charter of choice. The best time to visit Guadeloupe in the Leeward Islands is between December and April. At that time, it's warmer, and rainfall is at its lowest.

The eastern coast of Guadeloupe has long stretches of white sand beaches. It's an ideal place for taking a stroll and enjoying the sights of palm trees and warm waves on either side.

St. Lucia offers a plethora of highlights for travelers seeking a unique experience. One of the main highlights is the majestic Pitons, two volcanic peaks that rise dramatically from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. These UNESCO World Heritage Sites are a paradise for hikers and nature lovers, offering breathtaking views and opportunities to explore the lush rainforests and abundant wildlife.

Anchoring in the bay below the Pitons is one of the most outstanding views to behold.

Another highlight of St. Lucia is its vibrant cultural heritage. The island is known for its lively festivals and events, such as the annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival and the colorful carnival celebrations. St. Lucia's rich history and friendliness make it a truly captivating destination.

In addition, there are two excellent marinas on the island. The Rodney Bay Marina and the marinas in Marigot Bay. Margot Bay is very scenic and special.

St. Martin and St. Maarten Caribbean Charters

The island is located approximately 90 miles east of Puerto Rico. Saint Martin is a captivating destination, blending French charm with Dutch influences. In addition to visiting the quaint towns, there are many beaches on the French side. Notably, there are also many great culinary experiences on the island's French side.

St. Kitts and Nevis

With only 101 square miles, St. Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in North America. Explore the beautiful beaches or search for wildlife like dolphins and whales. A private yacht cruise around these islands is the perfect way to see them.

How do I get started?

There are a few necessary parameters to consider. For example, what type of boat, your destination, the time of year, and who will accompany you. The questions below can help guide your thought process, and your CKIM yacht charter broker will assist in asking the right questions and providing the expertise to design the perfect experience for you.

How far in advance should I book a Caribbean yacht charter?

It’s advisable to book your yacht charter at least six months to a year in advance, especially if you’re planning to travel during the peak season.

What destinations are popular for yacht charters in the Caribbean?

  • The British Virgin Islands: Though there are 60 islands in the British Virgin Islands, the four main ones are conveniently adjacent to one another, providing for a tranquil yacht rental. You can go surfing or shopping in Tortola in the morning, and you can swim on Virgin Gorda’s serene beaches in the afternoon. Without a doubt, among the top 10 Caribbean yacht charter destinations is Nature’s Little Secret.
  • The US Virgin Islands (USVI): Don’t mix the US Virgin Islands (USVI) with the British Virgin Islands that are nearby; the USVI is located southeast of Puerto Rico. These islands are quite popular with tourists, many of whom start their voyage here on Caribbean yacht charters thanks to a sizable national park and a sizable airport.
  • St. Maarten and St. Martin: Only the British Virgin Islands are a more popular sailing destination in the Caribbean than St. Martin. You can explore some of the most stunning islands in the eastern Caribbean by sailing here. Snorkelers and divers can experience some of the most beautiful, unspoiled reefs on the planet.
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: An island group in the southern Caribbean called St. Vincent and the Grenadines is well-known for being a well-liked sailing destination.

What is the best time of year to charter a yacht in the Caribbean?

The Caribbean is a year-round charter destination. Hurricane season is from the beginning of June through to the end of November. September and October can generally see more hurricane activity. Windy conditions can be encountered during winter, with calmer conditions during April – June. However, the weather changes and is unpredictable.

What types of yachts are available for charter in the Caribbean?

Are children allowed on yacht charters?

What Unique Experiences Can a Yacht Charter Offer?

From scuba diving in the Virgin Islands to wine tasting along the Amalfi Coast, luxury yacht charters offer a blend of opulence, adventure, and seclusion for an exceptional honeymoon experience.

Are pets allowed on board?

It depends on the yacht and owner’s policies. Some yachts may allow pets, while others may not. If you wish to bring a pet, kindly inform us, and we’ll check with the yacht owner to see if it’s possible.

Each week, we place a spotlight on one of the world’s finest yachts for charter . This week, BOAT steps on board the 74-metre fully custom CRN yacht, Starburst IV to discover what makes her such a sensational charter yacht.

In terms of design, there is little to poke at regarding Starburst IV : perfect proportions, ample deck space and a sweeping superstructure defined by a long flowing window forward. Proportions here have come out on top, disguising her sky-high air draught and large volume of 2,218GT thanks to a design penned by Zuccon International Project and build by Italian shipyard CRN.

Inside, things are just as impressive thanks to the keen eye of Winch Design, with bright interiors, bold oceanic patterns and sculpture. The design is festooned with deep nautical blues and plenty of texture, creating an elegant yet relaxed charter yacht – perfect for this Mediterranean season. Out on deck, entertaining spaces are huge with lounge space, Jacuzzis, bars and more.

Key Features

LOA: 74-metres Builder: CRN Year: 2017 Guests: 12 Crew: 22

As the automatic doors open to the main saloon, guests will be met by a sprawling white sofa surrounded by a sea of blue walls, white hand-tufted carpets and a bar to the port side. This is just a hint of Stardust IV ’s impressive lounge and open entertaining area, which also doubles as a cinema, though you wouldn’t know it thanks to clever disguising.

The yacht feels intrinsically elegant, yet there is an relaxed air, due to the textured interior and blended interior/exterior spaces. A fine example of this can also be seen on the upper deck lounge, which merges seamlessly into the exterior.

With her circular dining area and retractable glass door, Starburst IV is no stranger to more formal gatherings too. The space is surrounded by billowing voiles, which are dipped in blue in a nod to the ocean beyond. In fact, the yacht is devoid of a conventional dining room at her commissioning owners’ request, which opens up more room on the main deck.

Accommodation on board the yacht for charter is for 12 guests across eight cabins, each of which follow the same bright theme as the yacht, with pale hues and pops of blue. A long, wide corridor leads to the guest cabins (should guests need a nanny or security on charter, staff cabins can also be finished as guest cabins). Cabins are connected sundeck to beach club by a central glass and steel elevator, its design representing a waterfall and echoing the exterior blue stripe to the interior.

Life on board Starburst IV

One thing that you certainly not going to run out of during your Starburst IV charter is deck space. Out on deck, stairs flank a 10,000 litre superyacht spa pool with a glass bottom, which is at the heart of a recreation area on the main aft deck. Moving up, to the primary outdoor dining area, there is more space here to drift into the evening on deck.

Another impressive – and important – attribute is her beach club, which has an espresso bar complete with a professional machine and a seating area. The space can also be used to dine al-fresco while the waves lap upon the swim platform. The foredeck is also equipped with a DJ station featuring nightclub lighting and sound systems.

Wellness is very much at the heart of the vessel and, thanks to her superior volume, the yacht has a number of dedicated wellness spaces including a hair and beauty salon and therapy room. The on-board masseuse is on hand to carry out countless beauty treatments including massages and facials. Should guests wish to feel connected to the waves, a massage table can be set up on the fold-down balcony.

For those that want to keep up the fitness routine, there is also a fully stocked gym on board including weights, a treadmill, a rowing machine and much else. Yoga classes can also be set up on the main deck forward with a canopy to protect from the Mediterranean sun.

Starburst IV’s toybox is also brimming with fun, housing enough action to keep all 12 charter guests entertained for the entire week. Here guests will find Waverunners, SeaBobs, sailing dinghies, flyboards, wingfoils and an inflatable aquapark.

Where will Starburst IV be cruising this summer?

Starburst IV is available to charter with Burgess with a weekly rate from €870,000. She will be available in the Western Med and Adriatic from 13 August to 10 September. Following the summer season, Starburst IV will make her way over to the Caribbean where she will also be available for charter this winter.

Rebuilding Paradise: The Bitter End Yacht Club’s Inspiring Comeback

By: Shannon Sinnard Destinations

Nestled at the northeastern tip of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, the Bitter End Yacht Club has long been a premier maritime destination for sailors. For years, this iconic resort has drawn seafarers from around the globe, offering a serene escape amidst the sparkling waters of the Caribbean.

While the term “bitter end” often refers to the final part of a rope or chain, the phrase can also signify reaching the farthest point or the end destination of a long or difficult journey. The founders of the Bitter End Yacht Club chose this name to reflect both its geographical location and the spirit of adventure and perseverance inherent to sailors. For those who navigate to this end-of-the-line point, the BEYC stands as a haven where their journey culminates in beauty and tranquility. And, for many, it has long stood as a cherished traditional stop when exploring the waters of the BVI.

A Legendary Past, a Devastating Blow

In more recent years, the Bitter End’s name has embodied not only a physical destination but also a symbolic one. The iconic BEYC experienced a devastating blow in September 2017 when Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in history, wreaked havoc on the Caribbean, leaving the Bitter End Yacht Club in ruins. The devastation was profound, with buildings flattened, boats destroyed, and the once-thriving resort reduced to rubble.

While many Bitter End enthusiasts were devastated to hear of the destruction Hurricane Irma left in her wake, the iconic Bitter End Yacht Club kept its loyal fans updated via its website , detailing both the damage and community efforts to rebuild this beloved BVI institution.

Rising from the Ashes

Having now been rebuilt and risen from the devastation of Hurricane Irma, the Bitter End’s name resonates even more with the idea of enduring and overcoming challenges – much like the sailors who venture to the farthest reaches to get there.

After the storm, the Bitter End Yacht Club faced a long and arduous journey to recovery. But the spirit of resilience and determination among its community never wavered. Fast forward to today, and the Bitter End Yacht Club has not only been rebuilt but has been reimagined, standing as a testament to the power of recovery and the adventurous spirit that made it famous.

A New Era for the Bitter End Yacht Club

The reopening of the Bitter End Yacht Club marks a new chapter in its storied history. The rebuilt resort seamlessly blends the charm and character of its past with modern amenities and environmentally friendly practices. Here’s a glimpse of what visitors can now expect:

State-of-the-Art Marina

The heart of the Bitter End experience, the marina, has been meticulously restored and upgraded, offering deep-water slips that can accommodate yachts up to 200 feet, along with enhanced dockside services. Sailors can enjoy top-notch amenities including electrical hook-ups, fuel, ice, showers, rubbish disposal, and laundry facilities. Additionally, guests have access to the resort’s swimming pool. The BEYC also boasts one of the best deep-water anchorages in the Caribbean, providing many of the same amenities as the docking facilities.

Culinary Delights

Dining at the Bitter End is an experience in itself. The resort’s restaurants feature locally sourced ingredients, celebrating Caribbean flavors with a gourmet twist. Whether it’s a casual beachside meal or an elegant dinner under the stars, the culinary offerings are sure to delight every palate.

Environmental Stewardship

The Bitter End Yacht Club has embraced sustainability as a core principle in its rebuilding efforts. The resort utilizes renewable energy sources, practices water conservation, and is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the BVI. Initiatives such as coral reef restoration and marine conservation programs are integral to its operations, ensuring that the Bitter End remains a pristine paradise for future generations.

A Bright Future

From its storied past to its recent resurgence, the Bitter End Yacht Club is more than just a return to business; it’s a celebration of resilience, community, and the indomitable spirit of the BVI. As it welcomes back old friends and new, the Bitter End promises to once again be the ultimate retreat for those who seek the thrill of the open sea and the tranquility of an island paradise in one of the most breathtaking locations on earth.

While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.

You can also  keep money in your wallet  by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).

So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.

Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

What’s the best Caribbean cruise for me?

Whether you're a family of four or a solo adventure junkie, the Caribbean has a cruise for you. Walter Bibikow / Getty Images.

It feels like just about everyone is headed on a cruise ship, and for good reason. There’s a real appeal to embarking on a getaway where your travel plans are already sorted; you only have to unpack once and arrive each morning in an exciting port of call.

Plus, new ships are rolling out incredible bells and whistles that push the limits of fun at sea (think indoor skydiving, roller coasters, and go-karts). At the same time, the cruise industry has shifted towards sustainable efforts that have emerged as fundamental to modern cruising.

Recent statistics from CLIA (the official Cruise Line International Association) show an increase of nearly two million passengers in 2023 (totaling 31.7 million) compared to pre-pandemic numbers in 2019.

And there’s no more popular cruising region than the Caribbean , where upwards of 37 cruise lines with 154 ships rove the idyllic paradise of islands. With so many options, sorting out which ship and itinerary fits you best can be confusing.

Here’s a handy guide to help determine which cruises are best for you, along with tips and advice to ensure you’re setting yourself up for a smooth sail.

Passengers relax as the Oasis of the Seas departs the Bahamas

What Caribbean cruise is best for me?

Sailing for adventure.

Whether you're into ziplining through the rainforest, scuba diving one of the world’s largest coral reefs or swimming at the base of a waterfall, cruises throughout the Caribbean offer excellent opportunities for adventure.

Cruise ports known for high-octane activities include St-Martin (known for its superb scuba diving), Belize (cave-tubing and ziplining throughout rainforest treetops) and St Lucia (the Sapphire Falls Hike).

Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises and Holland America have cruises that frequent these ports.

Best ships for families

Look for larger ships with kid-friendly pools, expansive kids' clubs and family-friendly entertainment. Royal Caribbean’s fleet features action-packed decks great for families with water slides, laser tag and mini golf.

Disney Cruise Line’s fleet sails extensively throughout the Caribbean to ports that span from Cozumel , Mexico, to Willemstad , Curaçao. The line’s most common Caribbean offerings are shorter 3- and 4-night itineraries that are perfect for families looking for a short trip.

Cruise lines with private islands operate predominantly in the Bahamas , including Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line. These stops are great family destinations as they feature enclosed, private environments with kids' activities and the ease of charging everything to your sea pass card.

Singles at sea

Cruises can be an excellent place for singles to mix and mingle. A standard cruise stateroom rate is usually calculated at a minimum two-adult rate. Singles wishing to book a standard stateroom are typically charged a single supplement fee ranging from 50% - 100% of their base fare.

As the demand for single cruise accommodations grows, new ship builds include solo staterooms, both interior and with balconies. Look to Celebrity Cruises, Virgin Voyages, and Norwegian Cruise Lines for some of the best accommodations for solo travelers.

Most relaxing getaways

The most relaxing cruises sailing through the Caribbean tend to be the smaller ships focusing on a more “resort at sea” vibe. The higher-end ships with all-inclusive rates offer the luxury of seamless vacations. Windstar, Seabourn and Viking are the best lines for a relaxing cruise.

On these ships you’ll find daily activities that swap dance parties and poolside games for fitness-oriented activities like yoga and strength training classes, lectures on upcoming ports and ample lounge chairs to soak up the sun by the pool.

From your first step onboard, all your food and drinks (except for certain vintage wines and spirits), activities and sometimes your port excursions are included in your rate.

Itineraries like the Viking Ocean Cruises’ West Indies Explorer sail a 10-day itinerary roundtrip from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with stops that include Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Kitts, Saint Kitts & Nevis and Roseau, Dominica. Rates for Viking Ocean Cruises include one shore excursion per port.

The top of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship with a balcony looking down over a pool with people and lounge chairs.;

Best parties at sea

As the classic notion of cruising sunsets – goodbye white glove service, shuffleboard, Baked Alaska – a new era of fun is afloat.

Large ships are built to maximize fun, whether you're hopping pool parties, dancing the night away at late-night discos or cheering your team at rousing sports bars. Special interest cruises are also an excellent option for the most immersive fun at sea, whether that’s a full ship charter rock concert like the Rock Legends Cruise , a trip dedicated to Golden Girls fans , or an LGBTQ+ charter like VACAYA .

Favorite lines that feature an upbeat party vibe include Margaritaville at Sea (particularly on their new Islander), Virgin Voyages and Norwegian Cruise Line.

A quick getaway

You’ll find cruise lines are leaning into shorter itineraries that offer weekend getaways to nearby ports in the Caribbean. Most of these sailings are roundtrip from Florida’s top cruise ports: Miami , Fort Lauderdale and Orlando (Port Canaveral). These are often 3- and 4-night sailings featuring a stop in The Bahamas or Bermuda .

The vibe onboard is often more upbeat and celebratory, as guests do their best to maximize their limited time at sea.

A few favorite lines for this style of travel include Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean (who is launching Utopia of the Seas this summer as its first-ever large-scale ship that will exclusively sail short getaways) and Disney Cruise Line.

An extended journey through the Caribbean

Smaller cruise lines offer longer, extensive itineraries throughout the Caribbean; smaller ships can port far off the beaten path at more remote destinations. Itineraries like Seabourn’s “25-Day Captivating Antillean Treasures” sail to some of the lesser trafficked parts of the Caribbean including Marigot, St. Martin; Carambola Beach, Saint Kitts and Nevis; and Sopers Hole (Frenchmans Cay), BVI. Lines like Silversea, Windstar Cruises and Azamara are favorites that route to these idyllic destinations.

When should I go on my cruise?

There are sailings throughout the Caribbean year-round, with high season running from November through April. This period is known for its optimal sailing conditions and weather.

You’ll find cheaper sailings during the hurricane season, typically July through September, though you risk the chance of your trip being canceled or rerouted to avoid inclement weather.

Holiday sailings (particularly during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve) are also excellent times to sail as cruise lines curate impressive decor and holiday-themed activities.

How do I know if my cruise line is operating sustainably?

Conservation efforts have become a vital tenet of the future of cruising, with the industry gearing towards carbon-zero sailings by 2050 . Efforts underway include ship engines that run cleaner on alternative fuels, advanced wastewater systems that can better clean sewage water and exhaust gas cleaning systems to improve air quality at sea and in port.

Friends of the Earth’s Cruise Ship Report Card is a great resource to assess a ship’s sustainability efforts.

A few lines at the forefront of sustainable sailing include Ponant, Disney Cruise Line and Hurtigruten. Ponant recently became the first maritime cruise line to receive Green Globe certification, which recognizes the line’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.  The line has shifted away from heavy fuel oil and installed catalytic systems to reduce atmospheric emissions.

Disney Cruise Line aims to operate with carbon emissions at net zero by 2030, in part by shifting to alternative fuels like liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrotreated vegetable oil.

Hurtigruten is currently developing a zero-emission propulsion ship, which is aiming to be unveiled by 2030.

There are still a large number of travelers who oppose the notion of cruise ships for not only their impact on the environment, but on local economies as well. Groups like Friends of the Earth , CLIA and Oceana are excellent organizations devoted to regulating the cruise industry.

Need to know before you go

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when you’re booking a Caribbean cruise.

Book in advance...

Cruise lines offer better rates further from your sailing date, often making sailings available to book more than a year out. The earlier you book, the better the selection of staterooms to choose from.

Or take advantage of last minute deals

Cruise Plum is our go-to with a comprehensive overview of discounted inventories if you're angling for a last-minute getaway.

Opt for third-party travel insurance for hurricane season protection

Travel insurance is the best way to ensure smooth sailings on your Caribbean cruise. Typical cruise insurance rates hover around 5 to 10% of your total trip cost.

Don’t just opt into the cruise line’s designated insurance option; shop around on a platform like Squaremouth for the most value.

Look for a plan specific to cruise travel, with coverage that includes compensation for delays, cancellations (particularly helpful during hurricane season), emergency medical, and the premium option of canceling for any reason (CFAR).

Be hurricane-aware

Hurricane season in the Caribbean is typically July through September. The outlook for the 2024 season from NOAA’s (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season with the potential range of 8-13 hurricanes with winds of at least 74 mph.

Cruise lines work expeditiously to avoid sailing into the path of any major tropical storm or hurricane, often rerouting or shortening itineraries as threats arise. Cruises rarely encounter major storms as they’re able to chart the course of the weather and route accordingly.

In the event you encounter a major storm while at sea, head to the middle of the ship where you’ll feel the rolling of the ship less, take over-the-counter aids like Dramamine or Bonine and keep your eyes on the horizon for stability balance.

You don’t necessarily need a passport

Passports are not required for closed-loop sailings that begin and end at a US port. All you need is a boarding pass, a government photo ID (if you’re 16 years or older) and a certified birth certificate or certificate of US naturalization.

However, keep in mind that you might not be able to disembark the ship at certain ports (those ports include Barbados , Martinique and St-Barthélemy ).

Third-party excursions can be a better value play

If you want to stretch your dollar further, consider booking with local tour operators before arriving at each port. It’s important to note that third-party excursions are the best when they’re morning-only activities.

The ship won’t wait for you if you’re late returning from a third-party excursion. For full-day excursions, consider the line’s offerings, as the ship will wait for you, and there’s nothing worse than missing the boat.

The long tale of the yacht linked to a Russian oligarch and abandoned in the Caribbean for more than 2 years finally draws to a close

  • An undisclosed buyer picked up the Alfa Nero for $40 million last week.
  • The yacht was originally seized from a Russian oligarch in 2022.
  • The sale ended an ownership tug-of-war, which included ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

Insider Today

An undisclosed buyer has finally stepped up to the helm of the Alfa Nero superyacht, ending a two-year-long saga, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

That buyer agreed last week to pay $40 million, a huge discount to the $67.6 million that former Google CEO Eric Schmidt bid last year, a deal he eventually abandoned.

The Antigua and Barbuda government sold the superyacht, which houses an infinity pool that converts to a helipad or dancefloor.

The massively discounted price can be attributed to authorities' need "to get the boat sold," Richard Higgins, a broker who represented the buyer, told Bloomberg.

Higgins said the European buyer, whose identify was kept secret, intends to put the superyacht on the charter market.

The person "is not included in the sanctions list of any country or institution," Ronald Sanders, Antigua and Barbuda's ambassador to the US, told Bloomberg.

Related stories

The 267-foot-vessel was seized by Antigua and Barbuda authorities after it was linked to Russian oligarch Andrey Guryev, who was accused by the US Treasury Department of having close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Guryev is the founder of Phosagro, Europe's largest producer of phosphate fertilizers, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index .

The Alfa Nero was among dozens of superyachts seized following global sanctions against Putin's closest associates, which led to billions of dollars in frozen assets.

The Alfa Nero's maiden owner was Guryev, who purchased the vessel for $120 million, according to the US Treasury and the Antigua and Barbuda government . The Russian billionaire had adamantly denied ownership.

After the vessel was seized in 2022, it remained docked in Antigua's Falmouth Harbour, which cost residents of the Caribbean nation $28,000 in weekly tax dollars for maintenance, which took as many as 44 crew members . The superyacht was then valued at $81 million.

In 2023, the Antigua and Barbuda government put the Alfa Nero up for auction, citing hazards due to a lack of maintenance.Eric Schmidt initially won the bidding, for $67.6 million , but eventually backed out after Guryev's daughter claimed ownership of the superyacht.

The most recent acquisition of the Alfa Nero finally ends its ownership limbo, during which it racked up millions of dollars in port fees under the custody of the Antigua and Barbuda authorities, Darwin Telemaque, the Alfa Nero's port manager, told Bloomberg.

Last year, the Wall Street Journal reported that Antigua and Barbuda taxpayers were footing a $28,000-a-week bill to maintain the Alfa Nero, including the salary of an Italian captain and $2,000-a-day in diesel to keep its air conditioning running. That's because if the AC is turned off, it could let mold spread throughout the vessel and ruin the hardwood interior or a Joan Miró painting onboard, per the WSJ.
