Photos: Inside the Exclusive New York Yacht Club in NYC

Located on 37 West 44th Street, New York, NY, the New York City Yacht Club is a private social and yachting club founded by a prominent New Yorker named John Cox Stevens. Originated on July 30th, 1844, the original purpose of the club was simple: to race sailing yachts. Today, the club is composed of over 3,000 members dedicated to both yacht racing and design. As one of New York’s most elite social clubs, membership to the NYYC is very exclusive, which makes photos hard to come by, but we were able to get a look inside the stunning club.

The club was first started during an outing on Steven’s own yacht Gimcrack with eight friends. On that boat, anchored in New York Harbor, the group developed their idea to form the NYYC. They designated Stevens as commodore, and three days later, announced their launching of a yacht club cruise to Newport, Rhode Island: the beginning of the historical connection between these two cities. In 1845, the NYYC’s first clubhouse was built on land granted by Stevens in Hoboken, NJ, in close proximity to the Hudson River. Read more.

NYYCF - 2022

Founded in 2007, the New York Yacht Club Foundation has contributed $8.1 million to fund much needed capital projects in both New York and Newport.

The care and maintenance of these historic buildings require constant attention and is only made possible by the support of the New York Yacht Club Foundation.

Make a donation

About the 44th Street Clubhouse

In 1897, Commodore J. Pierpont Morgan’s unexpected purchase and donation of a three-lot site on West 44th Street was the gift on which the New York Yacht Club would erect its first permanent Clubhouse. Designed by the celebrated Warren & Wetmore architectural firm and completed in 1901, the historic Landmark building—so designated by New York City’s prestigious Landmark Preservation Commission—is a preeminent example of Beaux Arts architecture.

About Harbour Court

Conceived by the Boston-based consortium of Cram, Goodhue and Ferguson, the Renaissance Norman-style mansion was completed in 1906, five short years after the 44th Street Clubhouse. The former summer estate of the late NYYC Commodore John Nicholas Brown, Harbour Court was acquired by the Club in 1988, and has since evolved into the internationally recognized Clubhouse and sailing center that it is today.

About Station 10

In 1845, Commodore John Cox Stevens commissioned architect Alexander Jackson Davis to design the New York Yacht Club’s first Clubhouse—a distinctive structure influenced by the Gothic Revival school. Originally erected in Hoboken, New Jersey, it was later moved to Glen Cove, New York, where it was known as Station 10. The structure was later moved to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut before a final journey to its lasting home at Harbour Court.

CONSIDER MAKING A

Over the next decade, with multiple projects on the horizon, in the planning stages or under way at both Harbour Court or 44th Street, major funding is required to ensure that these Clubhouses are preserved for future generations. These efforts include rebuilding a seawall and restoring the boathouse at Harbour Court. The ongoing annual maintenance of these historic buildings is made possible by the New York Yacht Club Foundation and your generous support.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

  • Everett Yacht Club’s New Clubhouse Now Open

April 4, 2024

ny yacht club address

This is the 4th clubhouse location for the Everett Yacht Club, which formed in 1907.

ny yacht club address

Everett Yacht Club 1968 Newspaper Ad

The new clubhouse has been three years in the making. In 2021, EYC leased the Port’s former Marina Office building in Marina Village and invested over $1 million to renovate it. The club’s reciprocal moorage moved to South E Dock near the building that same year.

The new multi-story clubhouse at 1720 West Marine View Drive has indoor and outdoor spaces for member meetings, classes and events. It features a kitchen, bar and elevator, plus convenient access to the Port’s nearby Commodore Plaza and South Marina facilities.

ny yacht club address

“ The Everett Yacht Club has a long-standing history on the waterfront and has been a valued partner of the Port for decades ,” Port Commission President Tom Stiger said. “ As the largest public marina on the West Coast, the yacht club provides a great benefit and resource to our boating community. We look forward to many more memories being made here at the waterfront, and watching the next generation of boaters continue the legacy at this new clubhouse .”

“ This clubhouse isn’t just a building, it’s our new home, ” Everett Yacht Club Commodore George B. Sauer said. “ It’s a place where friendships flourish, laughter will echo through the halls, and cherished moments will be shared. It’s a space that embodies the spirit and comraderies and community that define the Everett Yacht Club. ”

ny yacht club address

EYC’s most recent space, near the Port’s Boxcar Park, is in a state of disrepair. It is programmed for demolition to make way for a new hospitality/restaurant concept in Phase 3 of the Port’s Waterfront Place mixed-use development.

The Port has invested over $165 million into its marina assets since the early 2000’s and more than $150 million to date to unify the marina and surrounding uplands as part of the Waterfront Place mixed-use development, with more to come.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

By Walter Raymond

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■
