Specifications
Following in the wake of her elder sister the Oceanis 51.1, this 40-foot cruiser, with a new hull design by Marc Lombard , offers unrivalled deck volume and interior space , an there are no concessions to performance. The 12-metre long Oceanis 40.1 is available in different layouts, draughts and rigs , adapting to the most demanding sailor’s cruising requirements and satisfying their need for comfort and pleasure under sail.
NAVAL ARCHITECT : Marc Lombard
INTERIOR & DECK DESIGN : Nauta Design
Exterior design
Exterior design.
How can you enjoy life at anchor as much as sailing? With the innovative flared hull design of the Oceanis 40.1, and steps extending over a third of the bow, BENETEAU has broken new ground but made no concessions. The result is a hull that has true speed potential and is stiff under sail. Above the waterline, her deck plan and ultra-spacious interior by Nauta Design is unheard of on a boat this size. You cannot help feeling that you are aboard a 45 foot cruiser!
Interior Design
With a walnut or light oak ambiance , the styling of the interior by Italian designers Nauta, is remarkably bright and excels in the skilful arrangement of the living spaces. She is available with two, three or four cabins and a C-shaped galley on the starboard, offering lots of storage and a spacious worktop. On the port side, there is a large saloon with a table and a removable bench, and a chart table at the foot of the companionway provides ample working space. Everything is modular, so that everyone can live the way they want and enjoy sailing wherever the wind takes them.
12 METRES OF SPACE!
The philosophy of the Oceanis 40.1 is to make sailing and mooring really pleasurable. The strengths of this cruiser, studied in detail by the architect Marc Lombard and the BENETEAU design office, are unrivalled space inside, a huge deck plan and the ability to clock up miles when you are cruising.
LIFE AT ANCHOR
The ergonomics and easy movement in the cockpit make life on board so simple. Nothing interferes with the joy of life at anchor. Feel like splashing around the boat in an idyllic creek? The transom easily converts to an extensive swim platform, similar in size to the ones you find on the largest Oceanis cruising yachts. Having access to the sea is an integral part of life on a sailing yacht, and this one is a model of its kind.
FOR SAILORS SEEKING EXCITEMENT UNDER SAIL…
As there is no one way to sail, and because everyone takes their cruising at their own pace, the Oceanis 40.1 comes in several versions. Sailors keen on performance can choose the First Line version, with a longer mast and a greater draught. The in-mast furling system and self-tacking jib will make manoeuvring easier shorthanded. A classic mast for a semi full batten mainsail is also available.
HEAVENS ABOVE, SO MUCH SPACE!
The hatches and the many hull and coachroof portholes, two of which look towards the cockpit, fill the boat with natural light and ventilation, making her exceptionally bright. You really feel like you are entering a much bigger boat! The Oceanis 40.1 comes in 4 different versions with two, three, and four cabins to fit everyone’s idea of a holiday on board. Couples and large families will feel like they are at home! The owner version has a suite with ensuite shower and head, and a bed easily accessed from either side. The four-cabin version has two forward spaces with bunk beds.
A connected boat
The mobile application, Seanapps , and its onboard unit lets you view the status of the boat's various systems (battery charge, fuel or water tank levels, maintenance scheduling) via your smartphone, as well as planning your route or reviewing your sailing status using your mobile phone.

Best Midsize Cruiser 40-44 Feet
- By Herb McCormick
- Updated: December 12, 2017
Winner: Elan GT5
This is going to be a tough category,” said Bill Bolin of the Best Midsize Cruiser 40 to 44 Feet division. “We have three very different but very good boats in this class — the Elan GT5, the Hallberg-Rassy 412 and the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440.”
To begin, Bolin said of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440, “It’s the best Jeanneau I’ve ever seen.” The judging panel agreed, crowning the boat the fleet’s Most Innovative design for 2018.
And what, exactly, led to that designation? “One big reason is the side decks,” said Tim Murphy. “One of the design features is wide-open side decks all the way aft” that permit easy egress going forward without the need to scramble over cockpit coamings. “It’s a clean path ahead,” he noted. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, it’s something we expect to see on more boats, including a scaled-up Jeanneau 490, in the very near future.
“You go down below and, maybe for the first time, Jeanneau has separated the mast compression post from the main bulkhead,” he added. “Now there’s just a compression post that runs down into the main saloon, and the main bulkhead that would’ve come to that position is now several feet forward. So they’ve opened up more space in the main cabin and taken it away from the forward cabin, where they’re arguing you don’t need it quite as much. I think that’s also a fine change. It has twin rudders, and under sail, I thought the helm was beautiful. It’s a solid boat.”
So, too, thought Bolin, was the Hallberg-Rassy 412. “This is the largest aft-cockpit model Hallberg-Rassy has built,” he said. “There is a 40-foot center-cockpit model, but this is a different hull entirely, optimized for upwind performance, with a code zero sail for downwind work. There’s a retractable bow thruster — we saw a lot of those this year — to reduce drag and get the thruster deeper in the water and farther forward as well. The boat we inspected had upgraded sails, and when we went sailing, they were spectacular. There was a beautiful full-battened sail and the boat sailed very well.
“It had a slippery hull and moved nicely,” he added. “We sailed it in 12 to 14 knots of breeze, so there was decent wind. Most of the time we were making 6.5 to 7 knots. As we fell off on a beam and then a broad reach, I think this was the first boat where we didn’t see a drastic drop in speed. It performed well on all points of sail. It had a nice big wheel and great visibility forward. It would be an easy boat to singlehand. I really like it.”
“This is a mainsail-driven boat, and I think that might explain why it’s so peppy off the wind,” said Murphy. “So the sail plan is a small jib with a big main. They’re one of the few remaining builders that are giving us a true traveler but also genoa sheet-lead controls from the cockpit, showing that they’re concerned about sail shape, and rightly so. Going down below, it’s the classic Hallberg-Rassy mahogany interior, and it’s just lovely, as lovely as it ever was. We’ve talked about good handholds, but on this boat, they weren’t just good, they were also beautiful. The fiddles are these beautiful rounded shapes that are perfect for your hand. They look great and feel great. Very nice.”
That left the Slovenian-built, 43-foot-4-inch Elan GT5. The company builds dedicated lines of racing and cruising boats, but, said Murphy, “The GT5 is sort of a hybrid between those two lines. It has a high-performance hull and a very comfortable cruising interior.
“Sailing it was pretty joyful,” he continued. “We sailed in very light air and it was still moving very nicely. It looked really good on the water. It really seemed to have answered the performance side of Elan’s DNA.”
“The company is doing some progressive things in terms of systems,” said Ed Sherman. “The electrical system on the boat has a nice, graphically designed power distribution panel with push buttons that light up things to let you know, for instance, that the running lights are on and that sort of thing.”
“I was really taken with this boat,” said Bolin. “It looks like a race boat from a distance, and as Tim mentioned, its DNA is rooted in that. But you go below and it’s very unique, with lots of special features. I like the galley-forward arrangement a lot. You come down into the main cabin and you’ve got max beam where the living quarters are, you have a great sense of entry. Figuratively speaking, you’re not walking through the back door and the kitchen to get into the house. I think this layout makes very good use of space. And there’s lots of storage. Finally, I’d say it’s a high-tech boat, vacuum-bagged with 100 percent vinylester. There’s a lot to like about it.”
At the end of the day, Bolin’s colleagues agreed, which is why they chose the Elan GT5 as the Best Midsize Cruiser 40 to 44 Feet.

Popular Cruising Yachts 40 to 45 feet Long Overall Their Physical Properties & Key Performance Indicators
Welcome to this ever-growing gallery of some of the most popular cruising yachts between 40 and 45 feet (12.2m to 13.7m) long overall. But it's more than just a gallery - every image is a link to a page setting out the boat's physical properties, key performance indicators and other data.
Cruising Yachts featured on this page...
With plenty of room for a cruising couple to live aboard comfortably, production cruising boats within this size range are understandably very popular with long distance sailors.
However, marina charges worldwide seem to take a bit of a hike at 12m, so be warned...
If you'd like to submit a suitable image of a cruising yacht (yours perhaps?), please click here to send your pic. It doesn't have to be within this boat length category; if it isn't we'll move it to the appropriate one.

40 foot yacht: guide to buying new and used boats.
- January 16, 2019
When purchasing a boat or a yacht, the type of boating you intend to do will provide general direction towards what type of yacht you will need. Other questions to consider are: What is your perfect day on the water? Will you be doing plenty of day boating, or more long-range cruising? Do you plan to use the yacht for fishing, cruising or both? How much time do you plan to spend on the yacht (day, weekends, weeks, etc.)? How many people do you plan to take on the yacht with you on a typical trip? Do you plan to sleep overnight on the yacht? Where do you plan to keep the yacht? What is your prior boating experience? Is speed important to you?
The size of vessel is one of the most important elements to decide upon. The 40 foot mark is a common boundary line for boaters searching for a new vessel. While the terms boat and yacht are often used interchangeably, most agree that the term yacht is indeed applicable to any boat over 40 feet in length. As you get over 100 feet in length, the common term tends to shift towards “ mega yacht .”
Moreover, a 40 foot yacht often comes into focus for couples looking to do a bit more than simple day boating. While the boat is still quite manageable, it can often come with multiple living spaces and plenty of amenities at an affordable price.
Deciding between a new and used boat will also be a major consideration. While new boats cost more, a custom yacht can often be built to your exact desires and specifications. Additionally, a new 40 foot yacht will typically include the latest technology and amenities.
Tom George Yacht Group is able to provide a myriad of options for boaters looking for a new or used yacht in the 40 – 50 foot range. Some of our featured new yachts in this range are detailed below:

Secondhand boat buying guide: four 40ft flybridge yachts reviewed
A 40ft flybridge is a great cruiser with enough space and clever layout. We review four secondhand boats on the market now: Jeanneau Velasco 43, Oyster Powerline 390, Princess 414 and Fairline Phantom 40
If you had to come up with the perfect type and size of family boat for UK waters, the 40ft flybridge cruiser would be right up there, a theory backed up by the sheer number in south coast marinas from Brighton to Falmouth. Big enough to go properly offshore, twin engines will give Channel-crossing confidence as well as manoeuvrability in harbours, where their relatively compact size makes handling manageable for two people. The layout works well too, with an open-air helm for good weather and an indoor driving position for days full of liquid sunshine. The ‘patio’ doors and a large windowed saloon make them perfect floating apartments while most have a family-friendly two cabin layout. Add in relative affordability and it’s easy to see the appeal. So this week we bring you four prime examples, from a well loved old Princess via a quirky Oyster Powerline through to an alternative Jeanneau hybrid design to a ‘staple diet’ Fairline.
Jeanneau Velasco 43
Jeanneau seems to have a model range for every niche but it hasn’t stopped them inventing a new one to fill. Launched in 2013 initially as the 43 Voyager before a sudden name change to Velasco, this concept is a cross between a long distance trawler and a fast port-hopping flybridge cruiser.
Recommended videos for you
There is plenty of trawler thinking on the inside. From fundamental things like the trawler-style galley forward on the main deck and the sliding door next to the helm through to more subtle hints at long distance cruising such as the massive storage voids beneath the main deck floor, one big enough to house a washing machine. On the lower deck it’s a two-cabin, two- heads layout. The guest cabin, with its two single berths infilling to create a double, is pushed back, which leaves space for a large ensuite master cabin forward.
The most obvious nod to the trawler-esque thinking is the forward sloping windscreen rather than the usual sleeker raked back look. With thin mullions it offers terrific visibility and it gives the boat a distinctive, purposeful look. Interestingly, Jeanneau has reverted to a swept back screen for its latest version, now called the Velasco 43F. Likewise, the mast-like radar support on the flybridge has been ditched in favour of a conventional arch.
Performance
Bucking the trend again, there are no Volvo motors on the options list, just a default choice of twin Cummins QSB6.7L producing 380hp and running through vee drives for a top speed of 27 knots.
That cruiser/trawler hybrid concept is more than just styling and marketing puff. The hull of the Velasco is also modified with fuller forward sections, a shallow keel and a small bow bulb to allow efficient comfortable long distance cruising as well as running well at planing speeds. It’s largely successful at doing so too, although it can ship a fair bit of water at planing speeds in choppy seas.

Oyster Powerline 390
Famous for its high end sailing yachts, Oyster dabbled with the motor boat market in 2005, building the elegant ‘gentleman’s motor yacht’ LD43 until 2011. What’s less well known is that this wasn’t Oyster’s first foray into motor boats. In 1989 the company brought out a very conventional looking 40ft flybridge cruiser called the Powerline 390. It was intended to be the first of a range of flybridge cruisers, but was the only Powerline model, due partly to the 1990s recession.
Oyster didn’t attempt to reinvent the wheel with this boat so the layout is entirely conventional. There’s a master cabin in the bow, a guest cabin with twin bunks to starboard and the galley opposite on the lower deck with the lower helm and saloon up on the main deck. Finish is good, as you’d hope from Oyster, with a light ash veneer, and the company’s yacht builder roots show through in things like the fiddled horizontal surfaces and large chart table at the helm.
Maximum geek points if you spotted Humber 38 underpinnings. In fact Oyster adopted that boat’s John Bennett-designed hull when Humber moved on to launch its aft cabin Humber 40, but fitted its own deck and superstructure. And it’s undeniably a handsome-looking boat for its era, with more curves than were typically the norm back in the 1980s. The flybridge is accessed by a ladder and the transom has a semi transom door formed by a cutaway.
Twin Cummins 6BTAs were the engines of choice for the Powerline 390, in either 250hp or 300hp guise. This boat has the latter, which should push the top speed to 30 knots.
Unusually for a full planing boat, the hull has a keel that extends to nine inches at its maximum, offering some protection to the sterngear and helps it track straight at low speed in strong beam winds. It’s a solid feeling boat and a relatively quiet one too.
Built: 1991 Price: £85,000 LOA: 39ft 7in (12.1m) Beam: 13ft 8in (4.2m) Draught: 3ft 0in (0.9m) Displacement: 10 tonnes Fuel Capacity: 1,090 litres Engines: Twin Cummins 6BTA 300hp diesels For Sale: TBS Boats
Princess 414
Old boats generally offer a huge amount of bang for buck, but that’s because they’re, well, old. Old electrics, old upholstery, old carpet, old navigation equipment. Not this one though, because all of that was replaced during a 2016 refit that even saw new tanks installed and the engines removed and overhauled by a Volvo Penta main dealer. Total cost? More than the current asking price…
The only aft cabin boat of our quartet this month, the interior stretches from end to end. And bear in mind that this was a 41ft boat when they were measured to the transom, not to the end of an extended bathing platform! As a result, the accommodation is palatial. A huge ensuite master cabin dominates the rear section beneath the aft deck, a large saloon sits amidships and further forward there’s a big dinette opposite the galley plus a guest cabin with centreline double berth in the bow.
The payoff for that aft cabin layout is a raised aft deck. More exposed than an aft cockpit and lacking the shelter of a flybridge overhang, it’s still big and does have one particularly useful feature. Where virtually all flybridge boats of this era had ladders to scale in order to reach the flybridge, on this boat it’s a couple of steps — easy to negotiate and it connects these two areas well.
The other trade-off with older boats is less powerful engines than we’re used to these days. But in this case the boat has a pair of entirely reasonable Volvo Penta TAMD 60C 255hp motors. No, you won’t be hitting the magic 30 knots, but it should top-out toward the mid twenties and cruise in the high ‘teens, perfect for a classy old lady.
One of the last of the John Bennett hulls before Princess switched to Bernard Olesinski, it’s a conventional planing hull with a modified deep-vee hull that combines deep forward sections with a flatter aft profile for seakeeping and speed.
Built: 1989 Price: £99,500 LOA: 41ft 2in (14.7m) Beam: 13ft 0in (4.0m) Draught: 3ft 0in (0.9m) Displacement: 9 tonnes Fuel Capacity: 1,182 litres Engines: Twin Volvo Penta TAMD 60C 255hp diesels For Sale: Global Yacht Brokers
Fairline Phantom 40
The early noughties was considered by many to be a golden era for Fairline boats, and the really good news is that the exemplary build quality echoed through the range from the flagship Squadron 78 downwards. So even buyers of 40-foot flybridge boats like this one benefit from fantastic attention to detail.
Nowhere is that more obvious than inside, where the high quality wood has a superyacht level of finish to it and that attention to detail includes a sturdy handrail recessed into the saloon headlining. The layout is the usual master forward, twin cabin to starboard with both having decent sized ensuites (the guest cabin accessing the day heads). There’s also a folding sofa bed cunningly hidden beneath the saloon settee taking sleeping capacity to an occasional six.
Again, pretty unadventurous but even so, beautifully appointed, the deck area of the Phantom 40 simply works well. Bathing platform and cockpit are teak laid as standard, side decks are 10 inches wide and protected by strong, high rails and the flybridge offers triple seats at the helm and a huge dinette aft.
When it was launched in 2003, Fairline fitted a pair of Volvo Penta TAMD 63 engines in either L (316hp) or P (370hp) specification, with twin Caterpillar 3126 units of 355hp or 385hp as an option, which offered top speeds in the high 20 knots. Later boats (like this one) moved on to the D series that Volvo Penta brought out in 2005, which in the case of the 435hp versions fitted to this boat, lift the top end beyond 30 knots.
Like everything else on this boat, the hull design is entirely predictable, being a Bernard Olesinski design, but like everything else, all the better for it. It extends beneath the bathing platform for maximum planing surface area aft and features semi-tunnelled propellers for a straighter, more efficient shaft angle and lower engines.
Built: 2009 Price: £229,000 LOA: 41ft 2in (12.53m) Beam: 13ft 0in (4.0m) Draught: 3ft 3in (1.0m) Displacement: 11.6tonnes Fuel Capacity: 990 litres Engines: Twin Volvo Penta D6-435 435hp diesels For Sale: Global Yacht Brokers

Meet Windy Boats’ 40 Camira RS
- By Victor Tan
- January 15, 2024
Windy Boats has launched a sports cruiser that combines getaway speed with creature comforts above and belowdecks. The 40 Camira RS is the latest model in the Sweden-based builder’s Classic Sports Cruiser Series. At 40 feet length overall, this yacht is the largest model in the series, which includes seven other boats starting at 27 feet long. Hans Jørgen Johnsen penned the vessel’s hull form, and interior design and styling are by Design Unlimited.
The cockpit of the 40 Camira RS has a flexible setup that’s suitable for easy water access, lounging and alfresco meals. Here, owners can choose either white or black for furniture colors. Beneath the aft-facing sun pad for at least two people, there is stowage to hold underwater scooters, paddleboards and Fliteboards. Windy says integrated charging and a compressed air pump are here too.
Take two steps up on the port side, and there is forward-facing bench seating separated from the aft sun pad by a backrest. It’s opposite an L-shaped settee to starboard. A dining table connects the whole space. The table can be lowered with a filler cushion to expand the 40 Camira RS’ relaxation possibilities. Additionally, there is an aft-facing sun bed to port. Windy says a cockpit wet bar is optional. This entire space is protected by a full-beam T-top with a sunroof.
The two-seat helm station is to starboard; to port, there is a single companion seat. Four centerline steps adjacent to the helm station lead to the bow, where there is another sun pad with backrests that can be elevated.
Belowdecks, the 40 Camira RS has U-shaped seating in the forepeak that converts to a double berth. Owners have the option to make this sofa a permanent berth. To starboard near amidships, there is a TV, and abaft it there is a head with a separate shower. The galley is to port. In the after portside corner, owners can opt for more stowage and appliances, or for a cabin with double berths.
The 40 Camira RS comes with twin inboard power, and 440 hp Volvo Penta D6 DPI diesels are the largest option. The builder reports a top hop of 44 knots. Twin 400 hp Volvos and twin 370 hp Yanmars are also available. Another version of the Camira, the SX, comes with outboard options, including triple 300 hp Yamahas or twin 450 hp Yamahas.

Being on board a powerful, reliable boat that also has high performance is an essential part of the pleasure of cruising. The Oceanis 40CC's hull is remarkable for its long waterline, big volumes and efficient wing-bulb keel. As far as her construction is concerned, there are no compromises: the structural inner mounding, glued and laminated to the hull, distributes any stresses from the rigging and keel. This technology combines reliability and strength and also provides perfectly finished locker interiors that are easy to maintain. One of the principal advantages of a central cockpit is the incomparable safety derived from the height of the cockpit, which is surrounded on all sides. There is a step of the coaming on the Oceanis 40CC to make it easier to get up the two teak-covered bench seats in the cockpit. There is a wheel mounted pedestal in the middle of the cockpit. Genoa and mainsail halyards and the lines for the two furlers are brought back onto powerful stoppers that free the halyard winch, whenever necessary. All handling lines are to hand. The Oceanis 40CC's deck is totally logical, simple and efficient, with steps in the transom (standard bathing ladder), liferaft fixing point on aft coachroof, solid aluminum bulwark the full length of the hull, as well as an aluminum rubbing strake. The numerous opening hatches and Dorade vents are positioned in such a way so as not to impede movement on deck. The chainplates for the upper and lower shrouds, which are positioned right against the coachroof, also leave the side decks completely free for easy access to the foredeck for the sunbathing area and the electric windlass. In the interior, the warm atmosphere (cherry finish) on board the Oceanis 40CC is essential to a good quality of life on board. To starboard, the saloon table and the raised settees ensure a pleasant "sea view" from inside the boat. Opposite to port, is the navigation station: chart table with stowage, bookshelves, 16-function electrical control panel, and all the room you need for on-board electronics. In the forward cabin, your guests have a large double berth, hanging locker, many other lockers and an en suite head compartment. In the passageway to port, which runs alongside the large engine compartment, the Oceanis 40CC's galley has everything you would normally find in the best-equipped kitchens: freezer, refrigerator, double stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressurised water, three-burner gimballed stove and many cupboards and drawers. As for the master cabin, all the incomparable advantages of the centre cockpit in terms of comfort and space have been fully exploited: large double berth with access from both sides, vanity-desk with mirror and lockers, large hanging lockers and your own head compartment with WC and separate shower. The Oceanis 40CC is truly the product of in-depth study into the expectations of ocean-going leisure sailors. A successful marriage of classicism and modern technology. Supersized RVs: Check Out the Biggest Motorhomes on Earth
Posted: January 27, 2024 | Last updated: January 27, 2024
You won't believe these supersized mobile mansions
Dubbed land yachts and mobile mansions, the largest motorhomes out there aren't the ordinary RVs you know. Kitted out with every amenity imaginable and enormous living spaces, these gigantic palaces on wheels are the ultimate homes on the road.
From the “apocalypse-grade” RV built for an Australian Outback adventure to Vin Diesel and Will Smith's monster motorhomes, click or scroll through to see some of the largest models around the globe.
All dollar values in US dollars.
SLRV motorhome for a family of eight: 40 feet
A family of eight planning an epic adventure exploring Australia's remotest areas ended up commissioning this mammoth motorhome from Gold Coast firm SLRV Expedition Vehicles in 2017.
The luxury RV maker had a challenge on its hands creating an extra-large high-end motorhome that could cut it in the Australian Outback, where the terrain can be treacherous and weather can range from blistering heat to dust storms and cyclones.
SLRV went all out and responded with an “apocalypse-grade” vehicle. The robust Commander 8x8 is built on a military-grade MAN TGS truck base, with walls up to five inches thick and durable double-glazed windows.
At 40 feet long, the Commander 8x8 ranks among the biggest RVs in the world. The vast motorhome runs on lithium batteries fueled by solar panels and a diesel-powered backup generator and alternator.
The Commander 8x8 may be as tough as nails but it doesn't scrimp on comfort. Ducted AC and heating make for the perfect temperature 24/7 and the lounge area has plush leather seating for up to 10 people.
The kitchen is loaded with appliances, including two refrigerators and two microwave ovens. As a bonus, the bathroom is spacious and has a full-sized shower supplied by tanks that can hold hundreds of gallons of water.
Like pretty much every other extra-large RV, the Commander 8x8 has its very own double bedroom, a five-star touch you just won't find in a smaller motorhome.
The cozy space is decked out with a widescreen TV, built-in storage and large picture windows. There are actually four TVs in the motorhome, which isn't short on amenities.
The pièce de résistance though has got to be the amazing lifting roof that can be raised at the push of a button to add an extra story to the vehicle.
Accessed by a floating staircase, this level has six single beds and a large TV. Impressively, the RV can sleep 10 people in total as the seating downstairs can be converted into a double bed.
As you might have guessed, all this didn't come cheap, with the cost of this particular custom job estimated at between $670,000 and $1.3 million.
eleMMent palazzo Superior: 45 feet
The Ferrari of RVs, the eleMMent palazzo Superior from Austrian manufacturer Marchi Mobile is the last word in luxury road-tripping. And retailing at a reported $3 million, it's among the priciest motorhomes in the world.
The most expensive on record, a $7.7 million marvel from Germany's Volkner that comes with a Bugatti Chiron, is too small for this round-up. In contrast, the eleMMent palazzo Superior is an extraordinary 45 feet long and offers 732 square feet of living space.
Marchi Mobile got very creative with the exterior and drew on racing car, yacht and aviation designs to create the unique RV, which wows with a fishbowl-style cockpit.
Intended to showcase the views, the design features an ingenious adjustable sun protection system to block out unwanted rays.
Yacht-inspired porthole windows dot the sides of the futuristic-looking motorhome, which has thick carbon-fiber walls for optimum insulation without adding much weight.
Checking out the interior, it's no surprise the millionaire motorhome has been described as a mansion on wheels. Going refreshingly against the traditional layout we see in motorhomes, the vehicle's living spaces look like they belong in a superyacht instead of a road vehicle.
The sumptuous living area has a 13-foot sofa, a jumbo TV screen, a well-stocked kitchen with an ice machine, parquet-style flooring, mood lighting and other deluxe touches.
Bedrooms on RVs don't get a whole lot grander than this stunning space. According to Marchi Mobile, the ornate king-sized bed is made by the same company that supplies beds to the British Royal Family and is considered the most comfortable in the world.
The adjacent spa bathroom is equally impressive, with a 16-square-foot glazed rainfall shower with a light therapy function and a sit-down vanity area for on-the-road pampering.
Like the Commander 8x8, the motorhome's most outstanding feature is its retractable roof. It can be instantly raised to conjure up a rooftop nightclub.
This glamorous Sky Lounge is a party-lover's dream, with a heated dancefloor, a covered seating area and a top-of-the-range Steinway Lyngdorf music system.
Vin Diesel’s monster trailer: 53 feet
RVs that stretch to 50 feet long or more are few and far between. Among the small number of mega-sized motorhomes are a selection of superstar trailers that now live at the 7744 Ranch , a glamping park on the outskirts of Austin, Texas.
The collection includes Vin Diesel's former trailer, which is called The Aspen .
Spanning a whopping 53 feet in length, the monster trailer encompasses 1,200 square feet of living space. The Aspen, or Comfy Cabin as it was formerly known, has all the trappings of an A-list celebrity motorhome.
Anderson Mobile Estates, which owns the glamping park, built the trailer in the early 2000s for Vin Diesel and it appears he leased the model until the early 2010s. It reportedly traveled with him to movie sets in Puerto Rico for Fast and Furious , and Canada while the star was filming Riddick: Dead Man Stalking, as well as other locations around the world.
The RV has since undergone a makeover but retains its homely yet luxe vibe.
The living area is stylishly furnished with linen sofas, while this roomy office contains space to work as well as a putting green of all things. The interiors resemble a regular home rather than an RV, with little built-in seating and lots of freestanding furniture.
The Aspen has two bathrooms, including one with a large granite waterfall shower. Even some of the largest and most high-end motorhomes have only a single bathroom, so this is quite an unusual feature.
Vin Diesel's former trailer also contains a proper kitchen, with a full-sized oven and stove, a Viking fridge-freezer, microwave and other top-of-the-range appliances.
Then there's the highlight of this expertly crafted vehicle: the expandable hydraulic second floor, which can be raised in seconds.
The Hollywood action star had his master bedroom on the upper level and converted some of the floor space into a children's playroom, but this has since been repurposed as an additional sleeping area.
Valued at up to $2 million, the trailer is currently available to rent if you fancy vacationing like an A-lister.
Jennifer Lopez's mammoth motorhome: 53 feet
Originally named Baby Girl, the Lux Lounge is Jennifer Lopez's former home on location – and it's quite something.
“One of the most modern and comfortable” RVs at the 7744 Ranch, the glam unit is the same size as the other monster motorhomes at the resort: 53 feet long, with 1,200 square feet of living space. Mirroring The Aspen, it's also valued at $2 million and available to rent.
The lounge on the first level can be used as a living area or screening room. A luxurious spot to unwind, it features an opulent black leather sofa, club chairs and other swish pieces of furniture.
It would've been the perfect place for the superstar to kick back, read up on a movie script or conduct a high-level meeting with Hollywood execs.
Though she probably has a private chef at hand, J.Lo loves to cook and she was very well-catered for with this trailer.
The lounge moves into a full-sized kitchen, which is equipped with a three-door Sub-Zero fridge-freezer, a two-burner cooktop, a convection microwave and a large sink.
There's also a marble bathroom elsewhere on this level with a walk-in glass shower.
As with The Aspen, J.Lo's former mansion on wheels rises at the touch of a button to create an upper level.
Upstairs, you'll find a party lounge with just enough space for a mini dancefloor, an ideal spot to practice your dance moves. The space is also graced by two wide-screen TVs.
Among the standout features on the upper level are the sleek bar and the U-shaped leather sofa, which converts into a queen-sized bed. Mood lighting is inset into the ceiling, which features a unique, undulating surface design.
Intriguingly, The Lux Lounge was also leased to Mariah Carey, when it was dubbed the "Skyscraper on Wheels."
Will Smith's sprawling RV: 53 feet
The first monster trailer built by Anderson Mobile Estates, The Heat was created in the early 2000s and was first called The Studio. Will Smith fell in love with the humongous RV and had it customized to his exacting standards.
The tricked-out trailer is said to have cost $2.5 million. A revolutionary RV, The Heat was the first motorhome to feature a hydraulic expandable roof, as well as four slide-out segments.
Like its counterparts on the 7744 Ranch, the 53-foot-long motorhome has 1,200 square feet of living space.
With all that space and interiors that look like they belong in a superyacht, the Hollywood actor certainly didn't have to rough it while on location. Smith is said to have lived in the trailer while filming Ali, Men in Black III and The Pursuit of Happyness .
Divided by automatic doors that the designer dubs " Star Trek doors," the interiors seemingly go on and on. The first level is made up of a living area that includes a large chef's kitchen with $200,000 granite countertops, couches covered in the finest Italian leather and exquisite custom wood cabinetry, including a table hand-crafted from Carpathian elm.
This floor also contains a makeup station and lounge area that Smith used as a wardrobe and dressing room. The bathroom is equally as opulent as the rest of the RV, with a sauna shower and a glass door that turns opaque at the push of a button.
As with the other models on the 7744 Ranch, the game-changing retractable upper level was made for entertaining.
Its hero feature is the drop-down 100-inch screen with automatic shades that transforms the space into a 30-person movie theater, which was no doubt put to good use when Smith was in residence. In total, the trailer has an impressive 14 TVs.
There's a bedroom on the upper floor too, separated from the movie theatre by a sliding door, which features a queen-sized bed.
The 7744 Ranch also rents out The Studio, Simon Cowell's former RV. Anderson Mobile Estates has also created motorhomes for other world-famous VIPs, including Bill Clinton, Whitney Houston, Sharon Stone, Shakira and Sly Stallone.
SpaceCraft's custom RV: 57 feet
With impossibly elongated proportions, SpaceCraft's flagship motorhome is along an elite group of super-large RVs, measuring 57 feet in length.
Missouri-based SpaceCraft allows its clientele extensive customization options to create a space that's optimized to their needs, meaning each RV made by the company is a one-off design.
Clients can choose to have up to three bedrooms in their totally bespoke trailer, which can also feature expansive entertaining areas, multiple bathrooms and an array of other luxe amenities.
The RV is powered by a diesel generator and there are built-in water tanks that can hold hundreds of gallons.
SpaceCraft is said to own a patent on its slide-out room design and its RVs make full use of this technology, which the company has perfected over the years.
As you can see from this photo of a typical custom trailer from the company, the décor is simple and elegant, with a smart, traditional feel.
Space is cleverly used and quality fixtures and fittings add to the high-spec finish. The living area flows well and is a cut above the sort of interior you'd expect to find in an RV.
In this particular model, the sleek kitchen features beautiful dark cabinetry with gold-hued hardware and even a stunning marble-topped preparation island.
Bedrooms across the model range can comfortably fit a king-sized bed and there's a plethora of design options for bathrooms so you can design your own mobile spa.
SpaceCraft's larger models are popular choices for Hollywood types it would seem, as the movie industry reportedly snaps them up like hotcakes. This particular interior definitely looks the part, just the sort of place for a star to relax in style between takes.
The flexibility to deck out each trailer to a buyer's specification is clearly a draw for the company's high-profile clients.
Kitchen amenities in typical models feature full-sized state-of-the-art appliances, including dishwashers.
Clients can also opt for a myriad of niche add-ons such as custom mood lighting, an entertainment system, a gym and a makeup room.
Price-wise, SpaceCraft's 57-foot RV starts from $350,000 but can easily go beyond a million dollars given the almost limitless customization choices.
DerBus colossal articulated motorhome: 59 feet
This veteran colossus of a vehicle, which featured 170 seats, was built back in 1975. Debuting as the first double-decker articulated bus, known as the Neoplan Jumbocruiser, it was unveiled in Frankfurt, Germany, and scored a spot in that year's Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest bus ever.
Fast-forward to 1995 and auto enthusiast Manfred Esterbauer resurrected this icon of German design and engineering, renaming it DerBus . According to autoevolution , only 11 such buses were ever made.
Esterbauer undertook a painstaking three-year renovation of the 59-foot behemoth. The revamp involved refinishing the chassis in aluminum, installing a roof terrace, security system and more.
Esterbauer's transformation caught the attention of the Guinness World Records again, and in 1997 the vehicle made its second appearance in its annual book – but this time as the world's largest luxury vehicle.
The first level now features eight passenger seats tucked behind the driver's cab, along with a mobile office of sorts. There's a 10-person meeting room and several smaller conference rooms for doing business on the go.
On the same level, there's also a plush VIP lounge with a bar, decorated with an opulent material palette of marble, chrome, hardwood, steel and leather.
The upper deck contains a capacious living area, a full kitchen, a master bedroom, guest bedrooms and a large bathroom with a shower. There's also a secondary bedroom at the opposite end of the level, fitted out with bunks that can sleep up to four people.
The bus was bought in 2004 by a company called Omnibushandel Mario Roettgen (OMR), and despite attempting to sell it on at least one occasion, they still own the vehicle.
Just look at these vintage fixtures, from the semi-circular vinyl sofas to the Formica countertops.
Capable of hosting hundreds of guests, these days DerBus is leased for trade events, shows and tours. The venerable record-breaker often gets carted out and even played a starring role in the 2023 Busworld Europe trade show in Brussels, Belgium.
CMC Caravan's custom mega-motorhomes: up to 61 feet
Italy's CMC Caravan rules the roost when it comes to totally custom motorhomes. The manufacturer's largest bespoke creations extend to a jaw-dropping maximum of 61 feet in length and resemble hip boutique hotel rooms.
The company is a pioneer of slideouts – CMC was the first firm to create a trailer equipped with five – and its RVs each feature several, which provide swaths of additional floor space when you park your motorhome up.
The company's Elyse design is said to cost around $1.5 million, which gives you a general idea of the price points for the custom designs. CMC Caravan's models are available across the world, but the company's clientele is mostly from the US.
Built to last, the one- and two-story vehicles are strengthened by the use of stainless steel, which makes them exceedingly hard-wearing and durable.
With around 1,180 square feet to play with depending on the spec, the spaciousness of the units is astounding. Each model can fit a substantial sofa and a dining table and chairs, plus a kitchen island and more.
The kitchens are virtually full-sized, with sprawling marble countertops, stunning cabinetry and state-of-the-art lighting, as well as top-end appliances and gadgets.
The finish throughout their projects is exquisite, and the company is especially discerning about the materials they use.
Across the various configurations of their custom models, the sprawling motorhome can include two ample bedrooms that look to be the biggest in any RV we've seen.
With each room large enough to accommodate a king-sized bed, side tables, cabinets and a wardrobe, these motorhomes feel like opulent houses, rather than souped-up trailers!
As is the case with only a select few extra-large motorhomes, CMC Caravan has two regular-sized bathrooms, including one spa-like haven that houses a bathtub, which is an incredibly rare sight in an RV.
While CMC Caravan's 61-foot models may seem gargantuan, the biggest RV in history measured an even bigger 65 feet. Built in the 1950s by the Mid-States Corporation, the articulated Executive Flagship mega-cruiser rocked a sun deck, storage for an inflatable swimming pool and other extraordinary amenities.

Arrow Monaco CEO Yerin Hobson
One of the many things I’ve learned after decades of writing about superyachts is…there’s always more to learn. And that’s why I’m so excited Arrow Monaco owner and CEO Yerin Hobson agreed to talk to me recently. Arrow Monaco is yacht and project management company with a team of 40 people (in offices in Monaco and Ft. Lauderdale) who are currently managing almost 20 new builds and five refits.
And since they handle everything from helping an owner find the right yacht designer down to the finest construction cost and detail, I’ve learned just how important they are in the superyacht industry even though they usually operate behind the scenes and below the radar. With roots in the practical skills needed for day-to-day large yacht operations at sea and on shore Yerin’s team can do “almost anything.” And as Yerin explains, when it comes to managing every aspect of superyacht design, construction, and operation, being able to have the technical know-how and experience to do “almost anything” comes in handy on a regular basis.
BS: I’ve been to plenty of shipyards. And I’ve visited lots of yacht design studios. But I never really understood how critical companies like Arrow Monaco are to the superyacht industry. Can you give me an example of how Arrow Monaco manages a new build?
YH: Absolutely. A good example is an 80 meter new build project we signed the day before the Monaco Yacht Show started in September last year. We were appointed at ground zero, so one of the first things we did was write the technical specification along with interior and exterior designer for the entire project.
Then we approached three different shipyards and selected one based on the price and the technical information that they came back with. After that, we entered a four-month R&D phase that includes all the technical documentation and to signing of the build contract. The importance is the detail. Writing the specification from the very start of the project helps us protect the client against future issues. And as of today, there has not been one single variation to contract or cost change on this project.

BS: can you tell me a little bit about how you formed the relationship with a client that allows you to sort of have that ability to be so exacting right from the beginning?
YH: Trust is everything. For this specific client, I went to meet with him when he was chartering a large yacht in the Caribbean. When it comes to building trust, nothing compares with sitting across the table with the client, designers, and shipyard reps.
When the client understands that we really know what we are doing, and you have a team that has been doing this for a long time, it's key. Trust is everything because this relationship is for life. It's not just building the boat. It's then operating the boat. Dealing with refits. It's a lifelong relationship. They can also trust us became we are not brokers and have zero commissions.
BS: So, what happens after you successfully navigate a owner through a multi-year new build phase? They love the boat. Then what? What do you do next?
YH: The next phase actually starts as the management team gets involved on the operational side about two years prior to launch. We help the owner find the right captain and crew along with many other details. And then finally at six months out, the entire crew arrives for training and familiarization.
Naturally, if we have built the boat and know every detail, every change, every system, then logical that we’re the right people to manage the yacht. That way if we have a problem, we supervised most of the systems installation alongside the shipbuilder so we can give the owner all necessary information to find efficient solutions.
BS: You do way more than just new build management, right?
YH: It's broken down into five categories: operational management, crew management, financial management, technical management and safety and security management. The client should be able to see where every cent is being spent, and it should be managed by somebody. I say this because this is our business model is similar to a family office style of operating a yacht that’s 100% transparent. All our accounting, compliance and crew systems are online so our client’s always have the information they need in real time.
I guess the real success story of Arrow how we deal with people. We value our relationships. We respect the people we work with and we strive to keep everybody happy while always getting the job done and most of all, protecting our clients every step of the way.
