Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Hotel und Zimmer werden derzeit renoviert und alles wird modern gestaltet. Das finde ich positiv und in Anbetracht dessen, kann ich mich auch über diverse unfertige Stellen nicht beschweren. Wenn etwas aktualisiert wird, ist das immer positiv.

The ghosts of 2022 and 2023 were well and truly banished as Leinster ran riot to lash a 40-13 win past Ronan O’Gara’s La Rochelle in Saturday’s Champions Cup quarter-final.

An engrossing opening half had plenty more bang in it before the interval. An outrageous pass from Lowe on the flank put Gibson-Park through for a brilliant try – Byrne then followed up with a difficult conversion in the swirling breeze.

With the clock four minutes into the red, La Rochelle ended up having the final say of the half. A big drive at the line allowed Louis Penverne to score and and cut the gap back to 10.

Even with that setback in mind during the interval, Leinster came roaring out of the blocks in the second half to put the French side to bed. After slickly moving the ball out wide, Lowe again pulled out an exquisite pass to send Ryan Baird try for Leinster’s third try.

After a patch of defending from the hosts, Leinster disappeared over the horizon with a pair of tries before and after the hour mark.

A sweeping move opened up space yet again down the flanks, allowing Dan Sheehan the room to get his head down and fly over the line.

Four minutes later, Lowe scored yet again after an excellent cross-field from Robbie Henshaw. Despite fluffing the two conversions, the 40-13 scoreline was insurmountable for O’Gara’s men.

From there, Leinster saw the tie out with ease. Even as La Rochelle tried to muster up a late attack after kicking to the corner, Joe McCarthy was on hand to secure the turnover.

The French side engaged in some pushing and shoving with their opposite numbers right after – summing up their bad day at the office.

Although Leinster still have potentially two massive games to secure that sixth star, they have gotten a big monkey off their back – and in style.

Wing James Lowe (2), blindside flanker Ryan Baird and hooker Dan Sheehan also scored tries, while fly-half Ross Byrne kicked three conversions and three penalties.

But Doris singled out scrum-half Gibson-Park for special praise after he backed up a recent hat-trick against Leicester with another complete showing in the blue jersey.

“Jamison is unbelievable. He is a joy to play with,” he told TNT Sports .

“He keeps the tempo so high and he is so unpredictable but plays within our plan at the same time. The boys are all about running lines off him.

While their attacking play was top drawer, Leinster’s defence was also hugely impressive and Doris was delighted with their performance in that facet on on Saturday.

“I think it was a great defensive display,” he added.

“You saw some of the shots that went in on some of their key ball-carriers, who have given good go-forward for them over the last couple of years, so it went a long way towards that performance.”

The victory in Dublin ended La Rochelle’s hopes of a three-peat success in Europe and after falling to Ronan O’Gara’s side in the last two finals, Doris admits it was pleasing to finally come out on top against the French outfit.

A great feeling

“It’s a great feeling,” he said. “We have massive respect for them as a group of players and a team.

“We’ve had some immense battles against them over the last number of years and it is very pleasing to finally put in a performance like that and get a result like that.”

He added: “It is a very rare opportunity to play at Croke Park in front of our own fans. What an exciting prospect, and we are looking forward to it massively.”

O’Gara takes La Rochelle to Cork to prepare for big Champions Cup clash with Leinster

La rochelle have not tasted a champions cup knockout defeat since the 2021 final loss to toulouse, and will be confident coming into leinster fixture.

Excitement is building rapidly as we prepare to witness the next instalment of the blossoming European rivalry between Leinster and La Rochelle. Ronan O’Gara’s decision to take his La Rochelle side to Cork to prepare for their goliath Champions Cup clash with Leinster has created vast swathes of interest within the rugby world.

As the reigning Champions Cup winners look to repeat last season’s 27-26 final victory in the Aviva Stadium against Leinster this weekend, Cork is being used as a base to mount this assault as they look to claim their third consecutive European title.

And since landing in O’Gara’s hometown the squad have embraced every second of their Irish training base, according to La Rochelle’s back row forward Judicaël Cancoriet.

“It is good to change,” he said. “To prepare and get directly into the atmosphere already in Ireland is different. It feels similar to a preseason where we’ve had more cohesion by only being with each other for these two weeks. And it brings us even closer.

“It’s the first time that we will have a bit of time to go out. We went training yesterday, and we could see that it’s Ronan’s city, and because of that there are a lot of expectations around the team.”

La Rochelle made history last weekend as they became the first European side to win away in South Africa in the Champions Cup. O’Gara’s side did not make light work of it, as they rarely do in Europe, as they had to overturn a 16-0 half-time deficit to escape Cape Town with a 22-21 victory over the Stormers.

The Herculean effort needed to win this fixture requires as much recovery time as possible to be ready to face the formidable challenge of the four-time Champions Cup winners in their home city, and O’Gara has provided that with the trip to Cork.

Cancoriet said: “The first two days were about recovering and working the mind, especially when talking about all the strategy. We’re very welcome here; there is nothing bad to say. We’ve had the time to recover; we’ve had a day of training yesterday...So there’s no excuse, we’ve had time to deal with the trip.”

There is an inevitability to these two sides facing each other at some stage of this competition should they wish to claim the title by the end of the season. Leinster claimed victory in the last match between the two with a 16-9 pool stage win in France.

However, La Rochelle have not tasted a Champions Cup knockout defeat since the 2021 final loss to Toulouse. They will be confident coming into this fixture but know they need to be at their best having been within a score both times they have beaten Leo Cullen’s men in the final.

He said: “It will be important to be tight. We are in their city, where there is more atmosphere...increasing the tension and pressure. We know that we are going to play against one of the best teams in Europe, with very good players in every position. I try to give my best to the team and also surf this wave of experience that this team has in this competition. But it is important for us to get better. That’s what is important this weekend.”
