Maldives yacht charter

As a dream destination for newly-wedded and a place to savor incomparable tropical luxury, the Maldives has an abundance of remarkable escapades. The Maldives has been a prime pioneer in catering innovative and extravagant travel journeys, ranging from underwater restaurants to over the water villas.

Why charter a yacht in Maldives?

The Maldives is a beautiful archipelago in the Indian Ocean that opens doors to iconic and memorable cruising experiences. The most exclusive way to explore its white sandy beaches, pristine waters, coral gardens, lagoons, and marine life is to charter a yacht. Onboard your chartered yacht, you may sample the most exquisite food available, undertake water-based activities, degust premium seafood, and admire the breath-taking scenery. Chartering a yacht in the Maldives allows you to navigate between islands and discover the hidden and faraway spots while taking pleasure in the luxury feeling of being at home.

The Maldives is a green paradise and a truly tropical exploration as you sail around and enjoy adventures. The most popular yacht chartering option in the Maldives has been catamarans and luxury yachts. The Maldives possess multiple private anchorages, and you could easily keep your privacy on board of your ship since only 200 of the 1200 islands are populated. With your private chef's assistance, you may enjoy a discrete picnic and a relaxing moment on the beach. The crew of sailors will confidently take the helm of your yacht, and gently sail through the waves, from snorkeling sites to see manta rays or a stop-over at world-class spa resorts for a self-care treatment to finally visit unique fishing villages to grasp the local life.

What are yacht charter prices in Maldives?

In Maldives, chartering a catamaran is an opportunity to hop from island to island and placed at the client's disposal, navigate the reefs, or find a beach to anchor. Yacht charter prices in Maldives vary between approximately $8,700 to $22,000 per week for three cabins catamarans. Motor yacht prices vary depending on your chosen provider. You can quickly secure catamaran for $2,300 a day for sixteen people, or $7,000 a day for eight people or more and up to $53,000 a week for eight people.

When is the yachting season in Maldives?

Located very close to the equator, where the sun shines right above, The Maldives promise exotic and tropical yacht charter season. As such, international adventurers may appreciate the warm and sunny feeling on their skin all year round. However, the east coast is the most humid region, and during the rainy season, cyclones may form between February and March. The two monsoons are milder than the neighboring countries. From May to October, there would be moderate rainfall and wind due to the southwest monsoon. The period between November and April is the most advised season for a yacht charter in the Maldives, right in the middle of the northeast monsoon when the climate will be dry and with little wind. This dry and hot environment is when cruisers may be pleased by the gentle breeze of the sea on the yacht. The busiest months for yacht charters in the Maldives are usually December and January.

You may delight in fishing activity, wakeboarding, canoeing, or dolphin observation from your yacht's deck. Your boat can also sail to a neighboring island for an immersive and local cultural insight of the Maldives.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Known for its world-class diving, entire luxury resort isles, and breathtaking beaches at secluded anchorages, this archipelago of 1100+ islands across 26 atolls inspires awe in all who have had the pleasure of witnessing it.

The Maldives yacht charters take you to a cerulean blue masterpiece of ocean and desert isles, surrounded by a network of reefs that give rise to its signature calm waters and lagoons swimming with sea life. Its luxurious resort bungalows on stilts and a sparse local population make finding your own secluded island a tantalizing option.

As the flattest country on Earth, the Maldives average a mere 2.5 meters above sea level, giving way to its signature “underwater” bars, restaurants and hotels. Most of the locals live across just 200 of the islands, leaving much to be discovered between the coconut palms.

Maldives Yachting Season

One of the best times to book a yacht charter in the Maldives is from December to May when the climate is dry and the southwest monsoon season has passed. Yet, it’s safe to say the Maldives has moderate weather with a nice island breeze all year round due to its proximity to the equator.

From May to October, the southwest monsoon does bring a bit of wind and rain. The east and central areas of the islands receive the most rains and are subject to storms from February to March, while the west and south coastlines are drier and much milder.

Maldives Catamaran Charters

Catamaran charters in the Maldives are one of the most popular choices. One reason is that catamarans offer the exhilaration of sailing, but with a smoother ride. For example, you won’t experience the dramatic heeling you would in a traditional sailboat.

Yet, the main reason catamarans are the sailboat of choice is that they’re perfect for exploring the Maldives shallow coral reefs. Catamarans have shallow drafts, and that makes it possible to sail closer to beaches, over reefs and right up to dive spots, and therefore, they’re the perfect vessel for those wanting to take advantage of the Maldives incredible diving and snorkeling.

Not to mention, catamarans offer spaciousness, allowing guests to relax and spread out. Many catamarans also have sprawling sunpads, which make them perfect for soaking up the Maldives’ warm rays.

Luxury superyachts allow you to entertain up to 12 guests and offer the ultimate in privacy.

Maldives Honeymoon Charters

The Maldives is one of the world’s most romantic destinations, and a honeymoon yacht charter is the ultimate escape. Your crew will spoil you, as you enjoy an adventure that you’ll never forget. Maldives Yacht Charters: What to Do & See

Vaavu atoll in the Maldives

The next best thing to buying a desert island is to go on a yacht charter in Maldives. The days are open to selecting the next island to visit, or you may just find inner peace while relaxing at the spa, tasting the island flavors, snorkeling the lagoons, and diving into untouched underwater landscapes.

Whether it’s a sunset swim, a nap beneath the banyan tree, or an exciting ride on a seaplane, the Maldives do not disappoint. No matter the day, the next star-filled sky is just an evening away.

Spend Days at the Spa

Luxury spas are scattered throughout the resort islands, which is one of the greatest advantages of chartering the Maldives. Emboodhu Finolhu hosts the grand Taj Exotica Resort & Spa in one of the largest lagoons (an enchanting sight) while the Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa on the island of Hembadhu is another such resort island with dramatic sunset views.

Within the lagoon of Huvafen, Huvafen Fushi is the most unique spa with a different kind of view. This underwater spa is located eight meters below the surface—and is the only of its kind in the world. The underwater spa offers a relaxing view of fishes and coral reefs to accompany the day’s treatment. Others opt for a pampering session and massage at the opulent One & Only Reethi Rah resort.

Taste the Island Flavor

The Maldivian cuisine is rich in fresh, local ingredients, with curries ranging from spicy to sweet. It’s rich in local staples like fresh barracudas, trevallies, tropical fruit desserts, and New and Old World wines. Halaveli Island is one such place that offers a chance to experience wines from Africa, New Zealand, and France through a “lagoon wine tasting.”

A unique way to experience the local cuisine is for a private yacht chef to prepare the fish reeled in from a day’s fishing expedition. Having a yacht charter in the Maldives gives you the freedom to catch and savor something fresh from the waters.

Diving into Reefs and Lagoons

Admire the elegance of wildlife while diving the reefs and snorkeling the lagoons of the Maldives. With about 30 meters of visibility and colorful living reefs, it’s no wonder the diving here is world-class. One of the best parts about having a private yacht charter in the Maldives is the ability to make the best use of your time. That is, the diving is so abundant, it would take years to experience it all—so stay a little while.

The island of Hembadhu is ideal for snorkeling or diving of all types. It holds 600 species of fishes, sea turtles, and a shipwreck that can be easily accessed along the reef. Another shipwreck, the Maldives Victory Wreck, can be found in Malé Atoll.

One of the largest displays of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean can be found at Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve. Lagoons are scattered throughout the archipelago, including the vast lagoon at Maadhu Finolhu that offers a stunning spot for snorkeling.

Book Your Maldives Yacht Charter

Between thousands of island and coral reef structures throughout the archipelago, a charter in the Maldives is the trip of a lifetime. Book your private yacht charter, and we’ll help you dream up your most luxurious vacation yet.

Weather in the Maldives

The Maldives is a state consisting of almost 1,200 coral islands stretching from north to south. It gained it’s independence in 1968. The climate is subequatorial, hot, the maximum temperature of water and air is about 30 ° C. The best time for chartering the boat is from November to March, when the northeast monsoons prevail. The rainy season lasts all summer.

Great plus of this destination is well-established air traffic: most European countries to the archipelago have direct flights almost every day.

The flight from Europe to the Maldivian Hulule Airport takes about 10 hours. Some tourists may need to have a visa, but it is usually automatically stamped at the airport upon presentation of a voucher issued by a travel or charter company.

Sailing in the Maldives

The Maldives is one of the most spectacular places in the world. A lot of photos with snow-white coral sand and shallow turquoise waters that you may see in calendars and desktops are made there. The islands are a mountain range that has sunk under the water and protrudes slightly above the surface of the sea. This is the “lowest” country in the world: the average height above sea level is only 1.5 meters.

The archipelago has a reputation of a paradise, which is preferred by lovers and newlyweds, however, serene romance is far from the only format available for tourists. If you want to fully enjoy the beauty and diversity of the “flower of India”, we recommend renting a yacht in the Maldives. This is an unforgettable experience that will allow you to see many amazingly beautiful places - both above and below the surface of the water. To rent a yacht in the Maldives means to get impressions inaccessible to ordinary "beach" tourists and to take not only beautiful, but also interesting pictures.

The Maldives is famous for the fact that each island is either one luxury hotel with fantastic white beaches and bungalows, or an uninhabited island with amazing flora and fauna. Several islands, including the only island city of Male, are inhabited by locals. There is also a marina where you can rent a yacht. Most popular in the Maldives is the rental of a catamaran or premium yacht. A catamaran with less draft allows you to walk as close to reefs as possible. In general, given the large number of reefs, it is better to rent a yacht in the Maldives with a captain or if you have sufficient yachting experience.

Cuisine in the Maldives

Sailing yacht or catamaran charter actually gives travelers the ability to move around in a floating mini-hotel. You may hire a cook who will be happy to prepare traditional local dishes for you. Cuisine in the Maldives stands on three pillars: seafood, fruits and coconut milk. The main dish of the archipelago is tuna with rice, which is served with various seasonings and sauces. Smoked tuna “maskhuni” with coconut pulp, lime juice and spices is also popular. If you decide to rent a yacht in the Maldives and go on a cruise around the islands, you will have a chance to try these and other dishes in their many variations.

In addition to the natural beauties and gastronomic delights, the Maldives is distinguished by a distinctive culture, in which Arabian, African and Asian influences are distinctly traced. For an active traveler seeking not only to relax in a hammock under palm trees, but also to get acquainted with real life, a yacht charter in the Maldives is a very attractive option.

Interestingly, in the Maldives, the main transport are sailing and motor boats. Most of the transportation is carried out by boats and seaplanes. Land public transport does not exist, since only two islands have roads. Any island can be crossed in 1.5-2 hours. Between the islands "dons" constantly transport people and goods. Large Vedis boats are used for long voyages to distant atolls.

However, those who choose a yacht charter will use all these means of transportation only out of curiosity, because they will always have at their disposal a comfortable vessel that meets all requests and wishes.

Fans of diving and snorkeling will especially appreciate this option: renting a yacht in the Maldives will give them a chance to easily reach distant atolls, where the purity of the water provides fantastic visibility and the underwater world amazes with paradise colors and bizarre shapes. The Maldives is an excellent place for diving, and few tourists avoid the temptation to plunge into the bright waters of the Indian Ocean with a mask or scuba diving at least once. In addition to coral reefs, you can look at caves, the remains of sunken ships and other attractions.

Another adventure worth renting a yacht in the Maldives is fishing. Popular fishing species are sailboat, barracuda, swordfish, tuna, blue and black marlin, sea bass. Despite the fact that many resorts organize morning, evening and night fishing expeditions on speed boats and sailboats, yacht rental gives in this sense much more freedom. We recommend anglers to take an experienced guide to help: fishing in these waters has its own characteristics. For example, due to the fact that the fish is often characterized by large size and strength, it may take considerable effort and dexterity to pull you out, and tackle can require remarkable strength. So if fishing is adrenaline for you, and not meditation, your option is to rent a yacht with a team experienced in this sport. Also note that the law prohibits fishing in places that have the status of protected areas (this can be any coral reef near the hotel), therefore it is better to deal with it under the guidance of a local expert. An imposing fine is imposed for poaching, even unintentionally.

Renting a boat

And of course, you can always rent a yacht in the Maldives for a romantic trip, a spectacular wedding or other celebration. 12 knots will find the right boat for your sailing vacation.

So, if you decide to rent a yacht in the Maldives, then you are either a fan of underwater beauty or who wants to visit the most amazing beaches of the Indian Ocean. For those and other Maldives - just a fabulous paradise with an abundance of all kinds of diving centers and beautiful hotels. Seekers of peace and solitude are recommended to visit uninhabited islands, for landing on which you must obtain permission in advance. Yacht parking on these islands is usually free.

Yacht charters in the Maldives will allow you to see unique places like: Fulhadhu Beach with palm trees and a sand scythe leaning towards the water, Maadhu Beach, where you can taste local dishes right by the water. Taking a yacht on a charter, you will not be attached to one hotel, but you will be able to see different islands and take away with you a lot of unforgettable impressions.

Yacht Charters in the Maldives: Key Benefits

  • Great opportunities for landscape and underwater photography
  • Hundreds of interesting diving sites
  • One of the best exotic fishing spots in the world.

Destinations

Northern atolls.

Season: Year-round

The North and South Male Atolls are the most developed in the Maldives, while the Baa Atoll is home to Hanifaru Bay, where mantas and whale sharks congregate at certain times of the year. The Noonu Atoll and the Raa Atoll are home to some of the more remote luxury resorts in the Maldives.

There are plenty of islands further afield to discover in the northern reaches of the Maldives – this region features in Maldivian history as one of the rulers who fought against Portuguese colonisation in the 16th century lived here. In the far north, visitors will find protected marine zones, shipwrecks and underwater caves, ideal for divers.

CENTRAL ATOLLS

The central atolls comprise Dhaalu, Thaa, Laamu, Meemu, Faafu. Thaa and Laamu are praised for their consistent barrel surfing and fishing, not to mention some sensational diving.

In the Ari Atoll, Fenfushi is fascinating for those in search of the cultural side of the Maldives; its inhabitants were skilful sculptors and carvers of coral and their art is still to be seen on the finely decorated walls of the island’s mosque and the tombstones in the nearby cemetery. Divers will love this region’s abundance of fish and prospect of whale sharks and manta rays at the right season.

SOUTHERN ATOLLS

Further south lie the Huvadhoo Atoll and the Addu Atoll, which are often considered as the most beautiful in the Maldives with their lack of development, stunning natural wonders and prolific coral reefs. Visitors can experience local culture in some of the far-flung villages in this region.

The Eastern side of Huvadhoo is a paradise in the true sense of the word for underwater aficionados and fishermen – during the dry monsoon practically all the narrow passes along the atoll’s perimeter are ideal for current dives, with clear visibility and congregating fish. Advanced surfers can take to Beacons and Tiger Stripes, two of the most powerful waves in the Maldives.

What ultimate yachts’ partners say.

"During the years I’ve worked with Ultimate Indonesian Yachts I have been mighty impressed with the efficiency in turning quotes and questions around as well as being extremely flexible with my rather tricky clients! They seem to have the patience of saints... Eddie will “tell it how it is” and that honesty I appreciate. It’s also good to work with a small team who are happy to go above and beyond. No problems at all in recommending the Ultimate Indonesian Yachts team!"

Rob Murray-John

Black tomato.

"I have worked with the Ultimate Indonesian Yachts team for quite some time now and have had many clients travel with them. I must say they are a pleasure to work with and my clients always return with glowing feedback and wonderful holiday memories. I can happily vouch for and recommend their services."

Emily Gillman

Ampersand travel.

"I have been working with Annie and Eddie for a number of years now and we also jointly managed yachts for charter during my time at MYSEA. You can be sure that you are in very professional and expert hands. We worked with the MYBA contract, also adapting things to suit local regulations when needed, and always with client/owner interests as a priority. Ultimate Indonesian Yachts are my go-to contact for anything in Indonesia and I would absolutely recommend working with them for charters in that region. They are on the ground regularly, know all the best places to see, the local technicalities and of course the boats! In short, go for it with no reservation."

Aline Serret

Burgess yachts.

"Eddie is a really good contact and friend of ours and we have been working with him for a few years now. Predominantly, he acts as a 3rd party yacht broker to our company but also has a wealth of knowledge on diving, local partners, itinerary logistics and Indonesia in general - which we regularly call upon. His team knows a great deal about chartering yachts in these waters and we often seek his opinion on various yachts, dive crews, captains, weather patterns, dive sites, resorts and especially the more remote and obscure areas of Indonesia that less people know about. I have never had hesitations about Eddie and his team’s recommendations for my clients."

Maldives beach - swim and snorkel

  • Sail & Explore

The Maldives are famous for its sun-kissed beaches, azure lagoons, and vast reefs, with over 1,000 coral islands and atolls dotting the Indian Ocean. Liberate yourself, leave the mundane world behind and immerse yourself in a tropical wonderland for a while. The Maldives archipelago is a stretch of magnificent islands and atolls that stretch across 870 kms of the Indian Ocean. It’s home to swaying palms and sculpted coral reefs that beg you to put on a snorkel and mask. The stunning surf breaks demand that you grab a board.

Maldives surf "Yet Another Unridden Wave"

Maldives Surf

The best Maldives surf holidays season varies depending on the location, but its good from April to October. The best surfing weather and conditions are in March and November. The Indian Ocean swells are generally consistent and offer both challenging barrels or mellow cruisey waves depending on location and weather. Even on flat calm days there’s always something adventurous to do in the Maldives. Snorkeling in the lagoons or reef fishing is always exceptionally good.

The archipelago is separated into three surf zones: Male Atolls, Central Atolls, and South Atolls. The key distinctions between them are swell size and consistency – and the surfari boat crowds.

The best breakers occur on the outer reefs on the atolls’ southeast flanks. Many surfing hotspots are adjacent to each other and finding good surf is simple as accessing them by our surf charter yacht. The awesome aspect of a Maldives surf vacation is the sense of discovery that comes from surfing perfect waves with no one else in the ocean. Just you and your friends…

Maldives snorkeling "Swim With Dolphins"

  • Snorkel & Dive

Maldives diving and snorkeling are among the best in the world. There is an abundance of marine life and excellent underwater visibility. Come & swim with manta rays, whale sharks, hammerheads and a host of other pelagic fish species. Scores of multi-coloured reef fish, beautiful dolphins.

Maldives Fishing Charter Catching Sailfish

Maldives Fishing Charters

Sport fish species abound in the Maldives. Whether you prefer popping, jigging, trolling or fly fishing, your Maldives fishing efforts will invariably result in a catch. Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Wahoo and Tuna attack your lures, whilst sailfish and marlin tend to go after the skirts.

Sport fishing is a notable tourist attraction in the Maldives, with eager anglers visiting to catch a variety of fish species. The Maldives is well-known for being one of the top big game fishing locations in the world, with an abundance of pelagic fish species. Jigging/popping is the most popular method of recreational fishing in the Maldives

While sailing in luxury, you can reach inaccessible fishing grounds and lonely reefs. It is the ideal option to combine a Maldives surf and fishing charter with your partner or family.

BEST TIME TO GO

All in all, the best time to enjoy holidays to the Maldives is between November and April. These are the driest months of the year as well as being the least humid. This is also a great time to go on a cruise of the Maldives, as the water is clear, the sky is blue, and the weather is spectacular.

The weather in the Maldives is split into the North-Easterly Season(December to May) and the Westerly Season (May to December). Although the hours of sunshine do not differ very much between the seasons (8 hours average per day), occasional rain falls mainly during the Westerly Season.

The wind in the dry season is light to moderate from the North-East, in the wet season it is typically moderate from the South-West. Squalls rarely bring more than 30 knots of wind.

This makes the Maldives a year-round destination with a low season from June to August.

WHEN TO GO?

The best time to charter a catamaran in the Maldives is from Nov/Dec to May with a low season from June to Oct. There is an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day throughout the year with rainfalls occurring mainly during the low season June to Oct period.

Temperatures in the Maldives are regularly between 25 and 30 degrees C. year round, but during the months between Nov and May the climate is drier and less humid with more hours of sunshine on average and much less chance of rain.

The Maldives are not prone to cyclones; in fact, they have only experienced 11 cyclones in 128 years. However, they do have a storm season when very strong winds can occur from June to Oct.

The months Nov/Dec to May are the perfect time to relax on the sundeck of your Maldives sailing catamaran charter yacht, drink in hand and enjoy warm sunshine, calm seas and the stunning beautiful islands.

YACHTS FOR CHARTER IN THE MALDIVES

A 'Maldives luxury yacht charter' vacation offers dazzling natural beauty, breath taking coral reefs and exceptional beaches to make it one of the top yacht chartering destinations in the world. The Maldives are made up of 26 major atolls containing more than 1,190 idyllic islands scattered across the Indian Ocean.

With only 200 of the islands occupied it is perfect for relaxing and unwinding completely undisturbed, exploring secluded beaches and swimming amongst an array of marine life. The islands are a fantastic winter charter destination and a good alternative to the Caribbean, ideal for hopping from one paradise to the next.

MALDIVES LUXURY YACHT RENTALS

A Maldivian yacht charter is the best way to experience everything the region has to offer whilst truly enjoying the freedom of outdoor life at sea. The modern capital of Malé is situated on the coral island of Motu and is home to a myriad of bustling markets, art galleries, museums and restaurants just begging to be discovered.

On the more remote islands you will find caves, pristine beaches and lagoon. The warm waters provide the ideal conditions for enjoying the range of watertoys on board your private charter yacht, from whizzing around on jet-skis to snorkelling amongst the protected coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks.

MALDIVES FISHING

Whether you like popping, jigging, trolling or fly-fishing you will be assured of a real adventure on a Maldives fishing charter. Big GT's are abundant along with Wahoo, Tuna, Dorado, Sailfish and Marlin.

The reef and lagoon flats offer a variety of fishing opportunities, and steep drop-off around the different islands abound.

Net and long-line commercial fishing is banned in the Maldives and this has sustained the abundance of fisheries. Commercial fishermen use traditional “line and pole” fishing which prevents by-catch of other species other than their main target!

Among the game fish species found in Maldives are Giant Trevally, Barracuda, Wahoo, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish and Marlin. However, abundance of some species varies by season.

A Maldives Fishing charter onboard a yacht will allow you to access remote fishing grounds and isolated reefs, whilst sailing in luxury and comfort. It is the perfect way to combine a Maldives fishing charter whilst bringing your partner or family and friends along to enjoy an island hopping Maldives yacht charter experience.

MALDIVES SNORKELING AND DIVING

The Maldives are famous for their underwater wonders, white beaches, small islands and clear waters with fantastic visibility and water temperature between 20°-30°C year round.

What can you expect to see on your Maldives catamaran yacht charter?

The abundance of marine life including manta rays, whale sharks, pelagic’s, dolphins, reef sharks, turtles, and loads of colourful reef fish, makes the Maldives a diving and snorkelling dream destination.

The Maldives offers so many unique dive and snorkel sites carved out by the passing currents, which bring with them nutrient and plankton rich waters which ensures a unrivalled diversity of marine life.

With such a variety of dive & snorkel sites available, a Maldives catamaran yacht charter is an excellent way to make the most of your time in the water.

The benefit of choosing a yacht charter over a resort is that the yacht can head out to the more remote islands with new views every day. We can get off the beaten track, explore as many islands as possible, and take you to the most amazing places in the Maldives.

MALDIVES SURFING

The Maldives has some incredible surf. Ranging from challenging barrels to mellow cruisy waves, there is something for everyone.

Instead of surf camps, resorts where you stay with lots of other surfers, experience a private surf  yacht charter in the Maldives aboard a catamaran. We can offer private surfing charters for groups from 2 to 12 people.

Avoid the crowds and you're way more likely to catch those perfect waves, where you will have whole islands and bays to yourself. No risk of being stuck on a trip with a wave-hog or other guests you do not get along with. Just you and your friends or family, surfing picture perfect Maldivian reef breaks and exploring beautiful islands.

Top charter yacht itineraries in the Maldives

When it comes to booking a luxurious private yacht charter in the Maldives, your itinerary is one of the most important factors to consider. The various voyages offered are designed to showcase particular atolls, each with their own special attractions to suit every guest.

'Best of the Maldives' charter yacht itinerary

Lasting four to ten days at sea, these “best of” itineraries tour the central atolls in search of whale sharks, manta rays and more. You’ll also stop at some of the most beautiful islands, famous for their villages and picturesque landscapes of sparkling turquoise sea and deserted sandbanks.

Your adventure will begin and end in North Malé Atoll , with its own fantastic diving and some of the best surf breaks in the Maldives. This is also an excellent place to stop off at a resort for a cocktail or a rejuvenating day at the spa. A short sail away, South Malé boasts more challenging sites with exhilarating drifts at current-rich channels and seamounts.

No ‘Classic Maldives’ itinerary is complete without a stop in Vaavu, famous for its night dive with dozens of docile nurse sharks, and exceptional channel dives. Then, it’s off to South Ari atoll for snorkelling with whale sharks. North Ari delivers some of the Maldives’ most iconic reefs and yet another fantastic night dive – this time with dancing manta rays. And finally, Rasdhoo Atoll is often the highlight of a classic cruise, thanks to its dawn dives in search of sharks and pristine sandbanks – the perfect photo op.

  • Areas of exploration - North and South Malé, Vaavu, North and South Ari, Rasdhoo
  • Best for - intermediate divers, extended voyages, groups with non-divers
  • Highlights - sharks and mantas, drift diving, surfing, stunning scenery
  • Top dive sites - Alimatha, Maamigili, Maaya Thila, Fesdhu Lagoon

'Northern Explorer' charter yacht itinerary

Lasting between seven to ten days, these itineraries head north to explore Baa, Raa and Lhaviyani Atolls in search of hidden reefs and islands. You’ll have a chance to witness the largest gathering of manta rays in the Maldives, explore shipwrecks, and tour a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – home to some of the region’s most biodiverse reefs.

Starting in North Malé Atoll, you’ll have the chance to refresh your scuba skills or try your hand at surfing at some of the best breaks in the Maldives. Then, it’s off to Lhaviyani Atoll , well known for its beautiful islands and reefs, as well as twin shipwrecks that can be dived or snorkelled.

Raa Atoll is often up next, which is home to serene natural surroundings and an impressive diversity of marine life, from macro to mantas.  Baa Atoll is the highlight of this itinerary, offering a chance to explore stunning coral reefs and swim alongside hundreds of manta rays, sometimes joined by gulping whale sharks.

For something a little more dramatic, head to this region’s channels for fast-paced drift diving with a chance to spot sharks – a fun finale before you head back to Malé. Shorter itineraries lasting four to seven nights focus on Baa Atoll. Longer itineraries of seven to ten nights may include Lhaviyani Atoll, or even Rasdhoo and North Ari Atolls.

  • Areas of exploration - North Malé, Lhaviyani, Raa, Baa
  • Best for - beginner and intermediate divers, snorkellers, manta fanatics
  • Highlights - manta rays and whale sharks, shipwrecks, surfing, relaxed reef diving
  • Top dive sites - Banana Reef, Hanifaru Bay, Shipyard, Kuredu Express

'Vaavu and Beyond' charter yacht itinerary

These itineraries venture well off the beaten track, sailing south to explore Vaavu Atoll’s exceptional diving, beautiful local islands, and authentic Maldivian culture, then beyond into Meemu Atoll. Lasting four to seven days, these voyages are among the best options for quick getaways, but can be easily extended to cover more distant atolls including Thaa and Laamu .

Beginning in North Malé, you’ll sail due south for the start of your adventure. Dive exhilarating channels known for their high-speed drifts and big fish, plus stunning thilas bustling with marine life of all shapes and sizes. From South Malé you’ll sail for one of the Maldives’ least developed atolls, Vaavu. Vaavu Atoll is famous for beautiful reefs and the best channel dives in the country. Once you’ve had your fill of currents, take it easy topside, relaxing on a sandbank at sunset, or jump in for a night dive with friendly nurse sharks.

South of Vaavu, Meemu Atoll has a scattering of resort islands and remote dive sites well beyond the reach of most liveaboards - meaning you’ll likely have them all to yourself. Dive more fantastic channels and thilas and enjoy a few close encounters with the region’s majestic manta rays. Mix your itinerary up a bit with an excursion to tour authentic local villages, or enjoy an action-packed day at Meemu’s surf breaks. Keep in mind, you’ll need to spend seven days or more in the south if you’re hoping to see the very best of both Vaavu and Meemu .

  • Areas of exploration - South Malé, Vaavu, Meemu
  • Best for - intermediate and advanced divers, quick trips, authentic local culture
  • Highlights - fantastic drift diving, big fish action, uncrowded sites
  • Top dive sites - Guraidhoo and Embudhoo, Alimatha, Medhufushi Thila

Why is the list of “award winning / highly recommended yachts” so useful for me.

  • It will provide you with a clear idea of the best available option for your yacht charter
  • It will help you better understand and determine your preferences and expectations
  • It will help us to tailor a search of the most appropriate yachts for you, and negotiate the best price with the yacht owner/s

There are thousands of yachts for charter, and selecting the one that best suits your group’s preferences, budget, and taste is challenging, especially if you are a first-time charterer.

Our hand-picked, “award-winning”, highly recommended yachts are the best in class. The list will give you a clear understanding of what is possible, and the costs, without the need to cross-reference against the hundreds of other yachts. The list provides a refined, personalized selection of up to 10 vessels, across different price ranges, so you can make an informed decision.

It will highlight the best “value for money” yachts; and subject to availability on your chosen dates at the destination you desire, everything will come together for a memorable experience at sea.

This is a process of elimination that will deliver the most appropriate yacht for your holiday.

How do I ensure the most suitable final selection?

It is crucial that we, at Goolets, gain a thorough understanding of your preferences and expectations from the beginning, so that we can undertake a comprehensive, tailored search. Please consider the following:

  • Do you prefer modern or classic yachts?
  • Do you prioritize the size of the yacht or the age of the yacht?
  • What do you expect from your crew? Highly attentive at all times, or more in the background?
  • Would you prefer a younger crew, full of energy and sociable; or less so?
  • Do you need a faster yacht to explore more places and cover more ground, or is this not so important?
  • Do you prefer larger cabins and a spacious salon/living area, or you are more of an outdoor person?
  • Do you prefer a more luxurious yacht, or to allocate more of your budget to food/beverages and activities (water sports/land excursions/tours/bike rental, etc)?

Once we have noted your preferences, we will compile a shortlist of possibilities comprising 5 to 10 yachts of varying specifications (size, interior style, type of crew, etc); following which, we will narrow this down to 2 or 3 options, all of which would make excellent choices.

This process can be repeated with multiple permutations in order to arrive at the most suitable selection.

This process - refined over the past 15 years - delivers successful charters and satisfied customers.

What is the cost of a yacht charter?

We specialize in crewed vessels, where prices can range anywhere from € 5,000 per week up to more than € 1 million per week. Most of our charters fall into three price levels:

  • From € 10,000 to € 30,000 per week: This price range has the largest variety of yachts, and includes smaller vessels - motor and sail, gulets, classic yachts, and catamarans.  When booking, it is important to ensure proper maintenance inspections have been carried out, and the crews are professionally trained, speak fluent English, and can provide excellent service.  Around 30% of our customers book vessels in this range.
  • From € 30,000 to € 100,000 per week:  This price level is becoming more popular every season. It includes a wide range of yachts, traditional and modern. These are high-specification vessels offering every imaginable comfort. Around 50% of our clients book yachts in this price range.
  • From € 100,000 per week: This price level includes ultra-luxury vessels such as mega yachts. These are the most highly sought-after charter yachts in the world, with a wide range of high-end water “toys” onboard - including jet skis, a helipad, and even a submarine. These charters are very bespoke and every detail is managed to cater to exacting requirements.  A small percentage of our clients book these superyachts.

Is the cost of a personal charter manager included?

Yes, Goolets’ services are included in the base charter rate.

Booking your holiday with us includes:

  • A dedicated, personal yacht expert : one of our team will be assigned to you and will oversee every detail of your charter.
  • A personal concierge /customer support person : when you book a yacht with us, you will also be assigned a destination expert who can advise on routes, activities, and local cuisine.  She/he will help design your charter to your specifications to maximize your cruise.
  • A destination manager : a person from within our team responsible for the time you spend ashore at each local destination / stop-off, ensuring a seamless and positive experience.
  • All these costs are incorporated into the base charter fee.

How do you help me plan the itinerary?

For each destination, we provide all the most popular itineraries/routes that are being followed.

The first step is to go through the itinerary and determine your starting point. This usually covers check-in and check-out locations, and some of the highlights (islands, towns, nature parks, bays, locations), that you would prefer to visit.

Second, the tailor-made route is refined to maximize each port of call. You can elect to stay longer in some places and omit others.

Third, we customize your itinerary according to your group structure and preferences. If you have small children or teenagers, or if you are an active group of older people traveling without children, or if you are in your 30s traveling with friends who like to party, you can all follow the same route. You can all arrive at the same island, for example, yet experience it in a completely different way:

  • Families with young children: we will find the best and safest sandy beaches where you can swim and relax
  • Teenagers might enjoy activities such as water sports
  • Older groups may wish to visit historic places, enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, or visit a wine cellar
  • Those who like to party might wish to sleep during the day and stay up til the wee hours.

Why would I charter a yacht with Goolets?

We fully understand the need for excellence in organization and customer service, clear communication, and seamless delivery. Our repeat business is testimony to our commitment to client satisfaction. We look forward to assisting you.

What Is The Reservation Process?

Your first point of contact at Goolets will be with a Concierge Assistant /Yacht Planner. This involves a full review and confirmation of all of your wishes. This information is collated, then we confirm availability with the yacht owner. We then prepare the necessary paperwork including the charter contract which is signed three ways - by you (the charterer), by us (the broker), and by the yacht owner. Upon payment of a 50% deposit, the yacht booking is secured.

Your wishlist is compiled and the planning for your trip commences - usually one or two months prior to departure. You will be sent a questionnaire where you will confirm the passenger names, your menu preferences, any food allergies, whether you need airport transfers booked, and so on. We communicate with the yacht’s crew and create a day-by-day itinerary.

Final payments are made 4 weeks prior to departure, and all relevant travel documents and destination advice are issued.  The crew is briefed on any last-minute requests.

At check-in state, our destination experts will arrange everything on the ground to ensure easy embarkation.

We stay in contact throughout your holiday to ensure everything is going as planned.

By Steve Mandaluff   Last Updated: 22 March 2023

With 1,200 dazzlingly beautiful islands punctuating sparkling clear waters, implausibly perfect white sandy beaches lapped by warm seas, corals that are home to some of the most diverse sea life on the planet and temperatures that rarely drop below 25 degrees Celsius, a Maldives yacht charter is a truly magical experience.

Dotted amongst a 90,000 square kilometer area in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is made up of 26 atolls and around 200 inhabited islands. Dominated by sandbars and thriving coral reefs, the country is a scuba divers' paradise with 99% of the territory that makes up the Maldives being water!

  • Number of islands: 1,190
  • Percentage of area made up of water: 99%
  • Average temperature: 30°C / 86°F
  • Average sunshine hours per day: 8
  • Species of fish in Maldives waters: 2,000
  • National tree of island: Coconut tree

There is no doubt that if you were putting together a dream holiday destination, it may closely resemble the Maldives!

Drift amongst these beautiful islands and discover their mind-blowingly diverse range of sea life, or drop anchor and relax on one of their powder-fine white coral lined shores, which make up only 5% of the world’s beaches. Alternatively, hop off your yacht and enjoy a meal or some pampering at one of the numerous truly world-class island resorts the Maldives is famous for.

The fact the national tree of the island is the Coconut Palm sums up what kind of tropical treat you are in for if you visit! So let's take a look in more detail at what makes the Maldives such a pristine paradise…

1. New superyacht marinas

Surprisingly, despite being such a perfect location for a luxury yacht charter, the Maldives was without a marina for larger yachts until 2020, when Crossroad Maldives, a 30-berth marina spanning two of the nine islands, opened.

In keeping with its surroundings, a stop at Crossroad Maldives is a truly luxurious experience. Visit the boutique shopping outlet featuring top-of-the-line clothing, accessories, beauty products and of course souvenirs, experience a fusion of the world’s best flavors at a diverse range of dining outlets, or visit one of its spas and get yourself in the mood for a relaxing yacht charter before you head to your idyllic destination.

To top it off Crossroad Maldives – which can accommodate superyachts up to 55m (180') – has its own 800-metre beach, and is just a 15-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport and a short hop to the capital of Malé.

Crossroads Maldives recently released an announcement that their world-class resorts, SAii Lagoon Maldives and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives will also start accepting cryptocurrencies as payment from 1st October 2021.

There are currently plans being made for a larger 300-berth facility, meaning yacht charters in the Indian Ocean will become even easier. Crossroad Maldives is the perfect way to start the yacht charter of a lifetime.

2. Luxury at every turn

There are well over 150 resorts spread amongst the incredible atolls of the Maldives, each island hosts its own resort and these range from the luxurious to the sublime!

This means just a stone's throw from wherever you may be drifting on your superyacht, there is likely to be an opportunity for you to step ashore for a few hours and enjoy a truly magical experience.

For a culinary treat, the options are endless. Engage your tastebuds with a delicious meal in the underwater restaurant at the Conrad Hilton Maldives or visit Soneva Fushi’s award-winning Sobah’s on the uninhabited island of Mendhoo, where you can enjoy incredible cuisine in the most unbelievable setting.

And whilst we are talking about Soneva Fushi, after a delicious meal there is no better place to stargaze than their observatory; marvel at the wonder of the cosmos with their state-of-the-art telescope, and take advantage of the clear skies to see if you can catch a glimpse of Saturn and the moons of Venus.

Just a stone's throw from wherever you may be drifting on your superyacht, there is likely to be an opportunity for you to step ashore for a few hours and enjoy a truly magical experience.

In a country synonymous with luxury, Lime – the health club belonging to the private resort of Huvafen Fushi – takes things one step further. A hypnotic oasis of calm, it is the world’s first and only underwater spa and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Enjoy soothing reef views and the ebb and flow of the currents from their treatment rooms, which may just be the most serene and relaxing location in the world.

Underwater activities seem to be a bit of a theme here, and with some of the clearest water and most incredible marine life, it is no surprise. Perhaps the ultimate way to experience it is by ‘flying’ underwater in a personal submarine! The Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru offers this amazing experience; skim over coral formations, fly through kaleidoscopic shoals of fish and meet some of the sea world’s most majestic creatures – all while keeping warm and dry.

beautiful blue waters in the maldives

Each island hosts its own resort and these range from the luxurious to the sublime!

If you are a sports fan then Velaa Private Island is definitely worth a visit. Not only is it a ‘beyond luxury’ hideaway with a focus on privacy and comfort, there is also a nine-hole golf course designed by former world number two golfer José María Olazábal. Fringed by palm trees and awash with gentle sea breezes, it offers you a chance to practice your game in paradise.

We could go on and on listing some of the amazing opportunities available to you should you want to step away from the luxury of your superyacht for a few hours, but the truth is that, from sport to shopping to gourmet cuisine to relaxation, the islands of the Maldives will fulfill your desires no matter what you want to do.

3. Incredible scuba diving and water sports opportunities

Quite simply the Maldives are possibly the best place to dive in the world. Around 240 varieties of corals have been found in the crystal clear waters of the archipelago, and what really sets the area apart from other dive destinations is the sheer abundance of marine life on display.

Each of the three atolls, the Northern, Central and Southern Atolls, have their own characteristics.

The Northern Atolls are less busy but are covered with soft corals, colorful sponges and an abundance of fish life. You may often get a dive site to yourself, something that is less common as you head south.

If you want to dive amongst larger species head to the central Rasdhoo Atoll, where you will find dolphins, hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, large manta rays, parrotfish and more.

jack fish swimming in the maldives

The great thing is, whether you’re an experienced diver or a casual snorkeler, there will be a dive site for you.

Populated by large and friendly manta rays, masked banana fish, spangled emperor fish and even some approachable sharks, you will find over 2,000 species of fish lurking beneath the Indian Ocean. In fact, the Maldives are one of the few places on Earth where whale sharks can be encountered all year round.

The great thing is, whether you’re an experienced diver or a casual snorkeler, there will be a dive site for you, making the Maldives one of the most exciting and accessible places to pop your head underwater. Even better, most of these amazing spots are most easily accessed by boat, reserving some of the most special underwater sites on the planet for you and your guests.

Popular dive sites in the Maldives

The Southern Atolls are where the most popular dive sites are. The diving here is incredibly reliable and you are almost guaranteed to view a plethora of species such as whale sharks, eagle rays, white tip sharks, blacktail barracuda, batfish and much more.

yachts in the maldives

Around 240 varieties of corals have been found in the crystal clear waters of the archipelago.

Some of the top dive sites, as recommended by diving instructors and experts, include Ulkulhas Thila in the North Ari Atoll, a great place to see majestic manta rays; Kuda Tah Thila in the South Ari Atoll, a beautiful dive teeming with reef fish, even by the exceptionally high standards of the Maldives; and Kandooma Thila in the South Male Atoll, a 300m long teardrop shaped pinnacle, where you can see a whole mix of marine life from white-tip reef sharks to schools of eagle rays.

The truth is, the waters surrounding the islands are all prime spots for diving. Blessed with crystal clear blue waters and outstanding visibility, whichever reef you choose to explore in the Maldives will be a truly rewarding experience.

4. An idyllic, cyclone-free winter season

Whilst temperatures in the Maldives regularly hover between 25 and 30 degrees celsius all year round, there is no doubt the best time to visit is during the winter months.

Between December and April the climate is drier and less humid. You also get more hours of sunshine and there is much less chance of storms. February for instance is the Maldives' driest month, with only 38mm of rain, whilst from December through to March the country sees around 250 sunshine hours each month – more than the summer months when that figure is around 200 to 210 sunshine hours per month on average.

couple holding hands walking towards maldives sunset

The Maldives are not prone to cyclones, in fact they have only experienced 11 cyclones in 128 years. However they do have a storm season when very strong winds of up to 150 Km/h can be experienced. If you are looking for a luxury charter in the winter, the good news is that the storm season tends to fall sometime between June or July and run until October or November.

That means the winter months are the perfect time to relax on the sundeck of your superyacht, drink in hand and enjoy warm sunshine, blue skies, clear seas and the heavenly islands you will drift past on a regular basis.

5. A photographer's paradise

Miles after mile of beautiful white sands, magical sunsets, lush greenery and some of the clearest star-filled night skies you will ever see, the Maldives is almost one awe-inspiring photo opportunity after another!

What makes it even better is that on a luxury yacht charter the opportunities are all around you. From the deck of your motor yacht get a shot of the incredible purple fuelled sunsets, dolphins leaping from the water all around you, tiny Robinson Crusoe-esque desert islands, or just the flawless turquoise sea stretching out to a perfect blue horizon.

The Maldives is almost one awe-inspiring photo opportunity after another!

Across every island you will see hammocks swaying languidly in the breeze, not only perfect places for some rest and relaxation they also make great photo opportunities. Whether it be friends and family grabbing forty winks in the afternoon sun, or a photo from your own hammock at sunset, you are sure to end up with a collection of photos you will treasure for the rest of your life.

Pretty wooden walkways meandering to a sun filled horizon through collections of beautiful water bungalows, herons wandering without a care in the world along the white sands, sea plankton emitting a blue glow to create an amazing bioluminescent display on beaches at night - the Maldives has it all and more.

Words don't do justice to the beauty of this area, so make sure you get plenty of photos to show your friends and family when you get home, otherwise they just won't believe how incredible it is.

6. Wonderful wildlife

With mile upon mile of gorgeous sandy beaches and crisp azure water as far as the eye can see, it is often easy to forget what lies beneath the idyllic islands of the Maldives - it is home to some of the most incredibly diverse sea life on the planet, and being onboard a luxury charter yacht you will be privy to some of the Maldives best-kept secrets.

Thousands of species of fish can be found in the kaleidoscope of coral reefs surrounding the islands. These range from tiny, colorful reef fish to sharks, dolphins and whales, and everything in between. Just a few of the prevalent species include guitarfish, huge manta rays, triggerfish, barracuda, batfish and the national animal of the Maldives, the yellowfin tuna.

There are 23 species of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) recorded in the Maldives, that are protected under Maldivan law. As you relax on the sundeck of your superyacht you will almost certainly see the spinner dolphin following its distinctive daily pattern of traveling to the atolls in the morning to rest and then back out at sunset to hunt.

The Maldives is also home to 14 species of sharks including the largest fish in the sea, the 12m (40') whale shark. Don't fear though, these gentle giants live on a diet of plankton and tiny fish, cruising close to the water's surface with their mouths open to get their feed.

Sunreef yachts opens massive production facility in the united arab emirates.

From left: Sunreef Founder Francis Lapp, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, and Lech ... [+] Walesa at the opening of the new Sunreef production facility in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.

I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for Sunreef Yachts since I first visited the shipyard in Gdansk, Poland where a hard-working entrepreneur named Francis Lapp was building large luxury catamarans. That was way back in 2010. And since his fledgling shipyard was located in the Gdansk Shipyard where Lech Walesa helped found the Solidarity trade union that played a key role in the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union, it was inspiring to see something so new and innovative emerging from such a historic place. Little did I know that he was just getting started!

Sunreef Yachts newest production facility opens in the UAE

Since then, Sunreef Yachts have continued to push the innovation envelope when it comes to the design and construction of fully-customized eco-responsible catamarans and multihull superyachts. Sunreef Yachts’ current range of sailing and power catamarans ranging from 50-feet to 210-feet-long! And Lapp’s company combines electric propulsion, smart energy management, ultramodern solar panels and ethically-sourced finishing materials to provide a yachting experience unlike many other yachts.

Rafael Nadal's Sunreef 80 catamaran Great White is capable of fast passage speeds.

I also love how astute Lapp is when it comes to recruiting high-profile owner/ambassadors who include superstars like Rafael Nadal and Formula 1 champions Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg. Sunreef Yachts are cool and in high demand for lots of reasons.

In fact, demand has been so high, the always forward-looking Lapp wasted no time in developing a brand-new, state-of-the-art new production facility that just opened in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE.

I saw it for myself last week during a break from the Dubai Boat Show last week. And I have no doubt the new facility’s modern paint shop, laminating, carpentry, upholstery and stainless-steel work will be world class.

According to Lapp, Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE was the best strategic choice for this new facility due to Ras Al Khaimah’s incentive, industry support, and easy access to key markets and transportation infrastructure.

“We can now further expand in an environment that merges perfect strategic location, skilled workforce and proactive mindset,” says Lapp. “The yachts produced in Ras Al Khaimah will elevate eco-responsible yachting to a new level and showcase industry-first technology. I would like to thank the RAK Government and RMC management for their invaluable support in making this dream possible and I look forward to building a better future for yachting here.”

“The Ras Al Khaimah shipyard that we are now developing works hand in hand with our local Dubai office, employing a team of specialists from various fields,” adds Sunreef Yachts Middle East Director Munira Lapp. “The aim is to form a yachting think tank that will not only anticipate trends, but also shape the future of yachting with creative solutions. I believe the RAK facility will be the perfect infrastructure to carry out the most advanced eco responsible yachting concepts.”

Work has begun at the new Sunreef Yachts production facility in the UAE

It’s obvious the new facility is an important part of Sunreef Yachts’ global expansion strategy that will not only strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East, but also allow a stronger connection with the Asian and Australian markets. And with the company’s two existing manufacturing sites in Poland, Sunreef Yachts is most definitely going global.
