Micah Rose is one of those rare boats that combine the ruggedness of aluminum construction with elegant classic design, an amazingly open feel, and a proven offshore track record. It would be difficult to find a better boat for its current home waters of Southeast Alaska.
The designer is Australian Graham Radford, known for his seakindly designs (design # 47 at Radford-yacht.com). Micah Rose is relatively narrow by today’s standards, which translates into comfort on offshore passages and in big seas. A fin keel and separated rudder on a skeg provide both good tracking and maneuverability. The tall fractional rig is easily managed with plenty of sail area. Micah Rose has cruised from the Pacific Northwest to New Zealand and back.
The interior features a raised salon with exceptionally large windows for good visibility. Six hatches provide plenty of ventilation. Forward and aft cabins, plus a smaller sleeping cabin, provided ample room and abundant storage for a family of four for the voyage to New Zealand and for living for four years in Alaska.
The vessel was built to commercial-boat standards in 2000 by Bruce Regan at Northwind Marine in Seattle. The hull is ¼-inch thick below the waterline and 3/16-inch above the waterline. The interior was professionally done by Mike Pettier, known for creating the elegant interiors of Waterline Yachts.

Interior Accommodations
Starting forward, there is a lower double vee berth with storage under and a single berth over to starboard. There are two lockers in the bow plus four along the port side. There’s also a hanging locker to port. Wood slats line the hull sides in the cabin.
Moving aft, the head and separate shower are to starboard. There is an impressive amount of storage for toiletries with a medicine cabinet and three lockers.
The galley is to port, very much in the middle of the boat. It features deep double stainless sinks and a three-burner stove and oven. The large refrigerator and freezer are next to each other opposite the galley. In keeping with the rest of the boat, accessible storage is key with four drawers and several lockers.
Stepping up from the galley to the main salon, the sense of space and visibility is remarkable. Headroom in the main salon is 6’2”. The dinette is to port while the inside steering station and a settee are to starboard. The Dickinson propane heater is mounted at the aft end of the settee.
Four drawers are under the dinette and lockers with excellent access are found throughout.
Stepping down to starboard is a stateroom with a double berth. Three lockers line the outboard side of the aft cabin. Combined with the hanging locker and under-berth space, this provides exceptional storage. To port is a standup navigation table and electronics installations. Aft of that is smaller sleeping cabin with a single berth.
She has a teak and holly floor, and interior trip, walls, table and cabinet are done in cherry.
The salon upholstery was updated and the interior woodwork refinished in April, 2021.

Hull and Deck
The hull is heavily built aluminum. Insulation is provided by 3.5” sprayed in foam on the hull sides above the waterline and deckhouse. Micah Rose remained warm through Alaska winters and cool on her tropical voyages.
