Zion: Bhushan Powar reveals 110m concept with giant "glass eye"

India-based studio Bhushan Powar Design has unveiled renderings of a 110 metre superyacht concept named Zion, characterised by a large “glass eye” towards the bow.

Acting as a viewing gallery for guests, the feature provides guests with 360 degree views of the ocean while resembling a large sea-creature from an outside glance.

Speaking about Zion’s otherworldly looks, designer Bhushan Powar said: “The yacht takes inspiration from a ‘Black Hole’. It should attract the eyes with its modern elegance.”

While the main visual attraction of Zion is the glass viewing gallery, its inside is filled with amenities. An owner’s suite is located at the main deck, with electrically operated sky lounge balconies on either side. Her main deck features open dining space, illuminated by the glass bottom of the infinity swimming pool on the concept’s aft deck.

Elsewhere, Zion’s lower deck stores a large garage that houses a selection of tenders, Jet Skis and other water toys. A dedicated gym and open garden space is found at the lower deck, while the area can be transformed into a sunbathing lounge through foldout terraces on either side.

A glass elevator services all of Zion’s floors including the large helideck towards stern, while an ample amount of greenery found on Zion’s exteriors embodies the designer's ethos: “nature is the guiding principle for all our designs,” said Powar. “We always look for something within it to define ourselves.”

A total of 20 guests are housed in luxury staterooms, with room for over 20 crew members.

One such mystery is the massive glass dome protruding amidships. The unique spherical feature, which is meant to resemble a black hole, acts as an observatory of sorts and provides guests with uninterrupted 360-degree views. (You’d be forgiven for thinking it looks a little more like the Eye of Sauron for the high seas.)

Beyond the design’s novelty, the vessel’s sprawling decks, which are connected by a glass elevator, each offer something more to explore. The upper deck comes equipped with a 40-foot helipad for your chopper. The main deck sports a large, open-plan alfresco dining area that flows onto a glass-bottom infinity pool. The lower deck features an expandable beach club with a gym and open garden, as well as a large tender garage for your water toys. The flybridge, meanwhile, offers more vistas still and can reportedly be enjoyed in all weather conditions.

As for accommodation, Zion comes complete with 10 spacious staterooms that can sleep 20 guests, along with cabins for 20 crew. The luxurious owner’s suite, which is located on the main deck, sports fold-out balconies on either side. Just like the beach club’s bulwark terraces, these electrically operated platforms can be easily deployed in a snap to create a little more space on board.

  • The 360-foot concept vessel is called "Zion" and includes a glass elevator and infinity pool.
  • Superyacht sales hit a new record in 2021, as buyers snapped up more than 887 vessels.

The yacht is 110 meters or 360 feet long and named "Zion," a word which means "highest point" in Hebrew.

Bhusan Powar Design said the glass dome window at the center of the vessel was created to look like a black hole. The large window offers 180-degree views of the ocean.

The superyacht has an infinity pool with a glass bottom that allows a clear view of the ocean's depths.

The vessel has a flybridge which the design firm said provides high visibility and serves as a prime location for lounging. Each level of the ship is connected by an all-glass elevator.

"Our concept 'Zion' attracts eyes with its modern elegance and surprises the owner with the mysteries of the deep," the designers said in a press release.

The company did not specify how long it would take to build the ship or whether the concept would come to fruition.

It's not Bhusan Powar Design's first superyacht concept.

The firm launched in 2019 in Goa, a city off the Arabian Sea. The same year, the firm — which describes itself as the "first luxury yacht design studio in India" — unveiled a concept for a 209-foot luxury yacht called "Blue Shark."

the ZION superyacht concept by bhushan powar design has a giant glass eye

The zion 110mt has been informed by black holes.

Goa-based award-winning yacht design studio, Bhushan Powar Design, has unveiled a new superyacht concept with a giant glass eye. Dubbed Zion 110m, the design has been informed by one of the most mysterious yet beautiful phenomenon of the universe — black holes.

With a length of 110 meters, the Zion can accommodate 20 guests in 10 luxury stake rooms, and a master suite dedicated on the main deck. In addition to the 20 guests, the superyacht can accommodate 20+ crew members.

THE MASSIVE GLASS DOME PROVIDES GUESTS WITH AN UNINTERRUPTED 180º VIEW

Bhushan Powar Design states the Zion 110m superyacht is a complete package of numerous innovative features, integrating beauty with functionality. A massive glass dome acts as the main visual attraction while providing guests with an uninterrupted 180º view.

The flybridge located at the upper deck is designed for having the highest visibility and maneuverability in all weather conditions. The owner’s suite, located on the main deck, has electrically operated sky lounge balconies on either side. The main deck has open dining space connected to the glass bottom infinity swimming pool via a hanging bridge. The lower deck has a large tender garage that allows for easy and safe deployment of tenders, jet skis and other water toys.

At the aft of the lower deck is a beach club with a dedicated gym and an open garden space. The beach club converts into an expandable sun bathing space through foldout bulwark terraces. Upper deck has a 12m helipad accessible by glass column elevator to all the decks.

This Superyacht Has a Multi-Story, Spherical Glass Observation Room

' width=

By: Tim Huber Published: May 10, 2022

Founded in 2019, Bhushan Powar Design is an award-winning design firm that specializes in penning architectural concepts, yachts, and motorcycles. Representing India’s first and only luxury yacht design studio, BPD is run by a team of young staffers that aren’t afraid to take risks or deliver outside-the-box ideas — a fact evidenced by the firm’s latest project, a ~360’ superyacht concept known as “ZION.”

The bottom half of the superyacht takes influence from modern military vessels while the upper portion of the 110-meter ship features a giant squid-like split-level design with a hidden wheelhouse at the front, an open deck overlooking a beach club at the stern, and a large, multi-story spherical glass observation deck sitting midship that was inspired by black holes. Accessible via glass column elevator, the upper deck of the yacht also sports a 39’ helipad, a glass-bottom infinity pool, and a main dining area, while the lower deck boasts a gym, a garden, an expandable beach club, and a massive garage for accomodating tender boats, jet skis , and other toys.

In addition to the spherical glass observation area, the inside of the ship is just as well-appointed, featuring room for up to 20 guests thanks to ten generously-sized staterooms plus accommodations for just as many staff and crew. While it would obviously cost a fortune to produce, we have routinely seen super, mega, and gigayacht projects costing well into the hundreds of millions — if not billions — territory actually come to fruition, though ZION was created simply as a design exercise.

All in all, in addition to being incredibly unique, the ZION concept also allows BPD’s design team to flex both its architectural and ship-designing muscles. And, with BPD having already accomplished so much in its first few years of operation, we anticipate a bright future for the fledgling firm.

Zion Superyacht Boasts an Observation Room Shaped Like an Enormous Eye

It isn’t enough for the ultra-rich to simply own a yacht anymore. They’re now competing to have the biggest, most outlandish, and instantly recognizable yacht designs on the water, whether that means making them look like enormous sea creatures , equipping them with futuristic “flying pools,” or mimicking the look of an entire city , streets and all. The latest is Zion, which might be the weirdest-looking of them all. Designed by Indian firm Bhushan Powar Design , this 360-foot superyacht features a bottom half mimicking modern military ships and an upper half that looks like a giant squid with a terrifying all-seeing eyeball.

The design draws inspiration from black holes , equating them with the mysteries of the deep. What looks like an eyeball is really a spherical glass dome providing guests with multi-level viewing platforms and uninterrupted 180-degree vistas of the ocean. The Zion is capable of hosting 20 guests in 10 luxury rooms, including a master suite on the main deck, along with 20+ crew members. A glass elevator travels from deck to deck, and a flybridge allows passengers to enjoy views “in all weather conditions.”

“The o wners suites located at the main deck have electrically operated sky lounge balconies on either side,” the designers explain. “The main deck has open dining space connected to the glass bottom infinity swimming pool via hanging bridge. The lower deck has a large tender garage that allows for easy and safe deployment of tenders, jet skis, and other water toys. At the aft of the lower deck is a beach club with a dedicated gym and an open garden space. The beach club converts into an expandable sun bathing space through foldout bulwark terraces. The upper deck has a 12-meter helipad accessible by glass column elevator to all the decks.”

The glass bottom infinity pool is definitely a notable feature here, as is the nearly 40-foot helipad on the upper deck. Then again, are you even superyachting if you don’t have these? The main deck also has an open plan alfresco dining area adjacent to the pool, accessible via a sizable hanging bridge stretching beneath the helipad. The side terraces offer direct access to the water via ladders.

The Zion is currently just a concept, and Bhushan Powar Design says they created it just for fun. But we all know that billionaires love to collect outrageously expensive toys, so it wouldn’t be surprising at all if one of these were commissioned to hit the seas in real life. It would undoubtedly come with a very high price tag, but that’s nothing new.

The top 10 most expensive yachts in the world range from the $300 million Pelorus, owned by Hong Kong property tycoon Samuel Tak Lee, to the $4.8 billion History Supreme. The most expensive yacht of all time was designed by Stuart Hughes for an anonymous Malaysian businessman rumored to be Robert Kuok, founder of the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts chain.

Wondering what in the world would make the History Supreme so expensive? Well, let’s start with the 100,000 kilograms of solid gold and platinum used in its construction, including the base, deck, railings, and anchor. Then there’s the real T-Rex bone mounted on a wall made of meteoric stone in the main bedroom.

Superyacht Concepts that Wow’ed Us in 2022

By George Bains

Every year there is always an array of staggering, and often quite outrageous, superyacht concepts released that test then boundaries of possibility. Always excited by new interpretations of the yachting experience, we pick out some of our favourite concepts to have covered in 2022…

Vitruvius Yachts’ Ultimate Explorer Concept

Philippe Briand’s Vitruvius Yachts revealed its new 80-metre, go-anywhere superyacht concept .

With the design following closely in the footsteps of Vitruvius’ 54.9-metre Shinkai – built by Feadship in the Netherlands and delivered in 2021 – this new explorer is notable for its long aft deck which is ideal for storing a generous toy collection or even a helipad.

Designed to satisfy the most active and adventurous of owners, the explorer boasts a vast beach club and health centre below deck, enabling direct and convenient access to the sea for water sports.

With performance and onboard comfort key to the new explorer vessel – she is expected to reach a top speed of 19 knots and cruise with ease at 14 knots – special care has also been given to controlling any rolling motions on board – a trait which is also key for ease of launching her onboard toys such as submarines. Furthermore, the addition of gyro/fin stabilisers is also in consideration for the vessel.

Finally, owners can also decide to choose an observatory option for the expedition superyacht, which would provide a 22-square metre space to bring those on board even closer to the beauties of the night sky, wherever they might find themselves in the world.

During the Monaco Yacht Show, Feadship unveiled 85m superyacht concept – SLICE .

In an attempt to reflect the desires of the current superyacht clientele, combined with the innovative design flair of Studio De Voogt, Feadship's new 85m concept has been described by the Dutch yard as, ‘reimagining ways to bring natural light into a yacht’s interior’, alongside, ‘integrating the interior and exterior in bold new ways’.

Soon to become Feadship’s 11th innovative superyacht concept, 85m Slice takes inspiration from her predecessors. With a ‘sculptural exterior philosophy’ from the yard’s 2021 81.75m concept ‘Pure’, Slice’s exterior profile goes further: lengthening and wrapping around a brand-new interior to create an array of unique spaces for guests onboard. A previous and ‘predictable’ flow of space has been long-forgotten, with the yard now focusing on a fresh approach to the yachting lifestyle, evidenced through Slice’s 110m2 multilevel pool deck aft.

Bhushan Powar Shares 110m ZION

One concept with unconventional at its core is 110m ZION , released by award-winning Indian yacht design studio Bhushan Powar.

Zion's design takes inspiration from the vastness and phenomenon of the universe, with our attention immediately drawn to her main highlight, the "glass eye" viewing dome that can be likened to a black hole, allowing guests an uninterrupted 360 degree of the water.

"Nature is the guiding principle for the design of everything that surrounds us," said Powar. "We look for something in it that allows us to define ourselves."

Zion can host a maximum of 20 guests across the span of 10 elegant staterooms, accompanied by a dedicated luxurious master suite on the Main Deck. Guests within the master suite can indulge in electronically operated sky lounge balconies on either side for private use, allowing for an intimate space and alternative viewing platform. In terms of crew, she can accommodate up to 20 members onboard.

Lazzarini’s €500million concept SOVRANO

From unconventional to wild, Lazzarini’s 169m concept SOVRANO certainly reimagines life on the water.

Sovrano has been likened to a hybrid of sorts; a mixture of both a private venture and a cruise ship. Spanning 5 decks and defined by a three-storey well cut into the foredeck, this magnificent space acts as an atrium from within the vessel, beckoning guests to lounge in its enormous swimming pool and garden area beneath.

Her twin helipads sit either side of the wheelhouse, almost resembling wings as they extend her beam from 22 to 33 metres; in turn making her the widest superyacht in the world. The space is also perfect to act as a platform for a pool, and can be winched to water level.

Sovrano also has an area designed specifically to load and unload vehicles, with a garage that can house 6 supercars and a wide range of tenders, all of which can be launched directly from the garage. Built from a combination of steel and carbon fibre composites, Sovrano is also powered by a fully-electric propulsion system delivering a top speed of 31 knots.

Although a buyer has not yet been found, a Lazzarini spokesperson Cinzia Rugerri revealed: "We estimate a €500million budget and four years for the construction."

Russia Maps Show 25% of Moscow Without Power Amid Winter Freeze 'Emergency'

R ussian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the nationalization of an ammunition plant in Moscow after a mechanical failure caused tens of thousands of Muscovites to lose heat and water amid freezing temperatures beginning last week.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is around 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes in the Moscow region amid subzero temperatures.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov, Naro-Fominsk, and Podolsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky, and Selyatino are also without power.

That means that in total, more than a quarter of Moscow's cities have been hit with power outages and a lack of heating.

Newsweek has contacted Russia's Foreign Ministry for comment via email.

Many residents have taken to publishing video appeals on social media to complain about their freezing conditions. In one clip, people living in Moscow say that they are left with no choice but to warm their homes with gas stoves, heaters, and "whatever else we can find." Others said they are lighting fires in the streets to keep warm.

Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, announced on Tuesday that Putin ordered the ammunition plant to be nationalized because two of its owners have been "located abroad." He didn't name the individuals.

"We received the right to take control of this boiler house within the framework of an emergency," Vorobiev said, adding that the plant's boiler room was managed "very poorly" and there was "virtually no qualified competent personnel."

Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant not meeting safety requirements.

On Tuesday, the committee said that because of the incident, the deputy head of Podolsk's administration, the head of the plant's boiler house, and the general director of the ammunition plant had been detained.

Residents of Selyatino have described the situation as "some kind of struggle for survival," Russian Telegram channel ASTRA reported.

Power outages have also struck St. Petersburg, Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh, Primorsky Territory, and Yekaterinburg.
